ARTThe Chicagoan, published from 1926 to 1935 in Chicago, was explicitly modeled on the New Yorker in both its graphic design and editorial content. The magazine aimed to portray the city as a cultural hub and counter its image as a place of violence and vice. It was first issued biweekly and then, in a larger format, monthly, ceasing publication in the midst of the Depression.

by the way, to all of my fellow shane madej fans who don’t want to believe a person we all really liked FOR his seeming relatability and shit would think the paywall was a great idea… check out his wife’s tumblr.

sara states that “paying people fairly and making a survivable living while making cool things is hard”. survivable. while they’re living in LA more-than-likely not having to worry about if they’ll be able to afford groceries or car payments or medication each month (if steven lim’s published lifestyle is any proof of what kind of money those boys are making.)

sorry, folks, but we can’t absolve shane of blame with this, no matter how tempting it may be to think he would never betray what he’s said or insinuated his values are.

I wish there were more restaurants with affordable prix fixe or tasting menus. I would love for nice but not ridiculously fancy restaurants to basically say "here is what we're sure is good today, you can eat that or maybe one or two other things. Otherwise come back in 2-3 days and see if that's more interesting."

#I just want (a) cooks and chefs to get creative or think outside of the box; (b) menus that reflect changing seasons #I want you to have a seasonal menu! foods are better at different times of the year!#I would love restaurants to serve root vegetables and stews in the winter and then spring greens in the early summer #really lean into pickling and preserving; meats from animals in different developmental stages #obviously the fact that we can get access to so many different foods out of season is an incredible gift #(it involves labor and more bodies at work than I can contemplate without going mad)#but still. I think we should be occasionally reminded that chicagoans should not be able to eat bananas in february.#...........and (c) I want someone who isn't me to do all this.#no love sincerer than the love of food

I'm not sure if this was shared before, and I've been thinking about the Kasama theory from @gingerylangylang1979 and @moodyeucalyptus posts about Kasama. Another shoutout to @currymanganese for the photo spread.

Chefs Genie Kwon and Tim Flores, the Michelin Star couple mentioned in this fandom a few times.

It would be so cool if Sydney and Carmy combine the backgrounds of catering, sandwiches, and Michelin star worth cuisine. Like this couple, their menu will represent their backgrounds.

Genie Kwon described herself as a catastrophist and Tim as an idealist. She loves baking and wanted a 'destination spot' in Chicago, and Tim loves savory. I also love that Genie started in molecular biology before discovering her love for cooking.

"People don't even realize that we're married or a couple just because we're busy working and doing our thing, and we try not to let those lines cross...there was that question when we first opened, even on the first day, should we be doing this? What did I get myself into?"

Also, the picture montage in this documentary reminds me of the show!

Crisis Averted.

Story of my life. Problem arises, immediately propose a solution for said problem, agree. Then implement the solution.

She bought frozen vegan pizzas from Target 4 days ago. We opened them and what do you know…riddled with mold. Both the green moldy and the white fuzzy kind.

So me being 2 - 3 beers (sounds like “too tree”) decide to run over to the Whole Foods for replacement pizza. Exactly 22 minutes later, I’m back with said solution.
