 New Orleans 1865
Syverson POV
The crowd had gathered, former soldiers under my command, patients she’d had helped, even John's wife Caroline was there with her son. Her sister, Evelyn was there with her father, crying softly into his side as people came to pay their respects. I held her silver and gold locket in my gloved hand.  I stared at the empty box that would soon be sealed in the empty spot next to her mother.
When her father asked for her body, I just couldn't fathom it, having her buried in the cold dark space. So with the help of a friend, we swapped the caskets before it was time to bury her and she was on her way back to our home to be buried there, and I alongside her as soon as I killed August once and for all.
As people started to flow out of the cemetery, her sister grabbed my sleeve and stopped me. I turned to face the young girl. Flushed skin from crying, the same red hair as her sister. Except her eyes weren't green, they were blue. “Even though you never married, Captain, you are still family to us” I smiled down at the young girl softly. I grasped her hand and turned her palm up. I dropped the locket into her palm and curled her fingers around it. “Here I knew she would have wanted you to have it.” She opened her hand and saw the locket, more tears sprung from her eyes. “Thank you Captain” I nodded and she made her way back to her father and I made my way out  of the cemetery with the rest of the crowd.
Back home in my family crypt, I started at her resting place, wishing she'd tell me not to do this but no answer. Arlene and Charlotte tried and failed to talk me out of my decisions but I wouldn't budge, if August was coming for me, I had to be ready, even if it meant turning into a monster like him. Pulling out the pocket watch that Aurora had given me, I chuckled softly at the memory of the day she gave it to me. On a small white card in her silk hand writing, she wrote “For you my dearest Captain, since you always seem to be losing track of time”  i laugh as i pulled out  the silver watch from its spot in the holder and flipped it open, it was set to the perfect time and there was a picture of her inside my watch so id always remembered who id lose track of time for.
With a small sigh, I snapped the watch closed and placed my hand on her grave and said my final goodbye. I didn't know if I was going to survive this process or who'd I'd be when I was done but what I do know is she will always be the light that guides my way home " Mon amour... sache que nous nous sommes déjà rencontrés et que nous nous reverrons. je trouverai mon chemin vers toi dans la prochaine vie et chaque vie après cela.
(My love... know that we have met before and that we will meet again. I will find my way to you in the next life and every life after that.)
With one last glance, I closed the door on the crypt and walked ahead into an uncertain future.
*few hours later*
Arlene and Charlotte looked at me with concern, I know they agreed to help and to the risk this involves but they still didn't trust this idea. "Are you sure you want to do this child?" Arlene asked, her voice edged with uncertainty, " there are other ways to defeat August, you don't have to become like him" I looked at her and she just nodded. Looking at my reflection one last time, I ran my thumb over the pocket watch and walked out of the room. In the livingroom sat Arlene and Charlotte and the young man who had been with him. His name was Josiah, behind him was a different gentleman, he was about my height, similar build, but the top portion of his face was painted white.
"This is Papa LeBlanc. He turned me, just as he will turn you" Josiah stated. I nodded at him and extended a hand to him, with lightning speed he was standing in front of me. He spoke in a low gravelly tone " You understand by doing this, you're giving up the ones you love?" He cocked his entire head at me, I thumbed my pocket watch again, " The woman I love is the reason I'm doing this, so no one else dies because of August '' he recoiled at his name and hissed.
"You know him?" I questioned. He nodded slowly. "Yes I do, he used to be a kind man then he became obsessed with power" , pursing his lips,he placed his index fingers to them as he thought. " I'll do this, on one condition, you leave me and my kin alone. You only go after August" I nodded at his request " you have my word, August will be the only one to die"
He smiled a wicked smile, his canine teeth elongated, and he rushed at me. I felt his fangs pierce my neck and the pain quickly replaced it with a calming effect. I sank to my knees as my world turned black and all I could hear was the sound of Aurora laughing in my ears and then nothing at all.
New Orleans 2023
Sy's pov
I dropped Gus off at the compound, making my way back to the French Quarter, pulling my truck to a stop in front of Mama J’s home. Turning off my truck and getting out, i could smell her perfume before i saw her, she was in a green sundress, it had bows that tied on top of her shoulders, her long hair was pulled back into a beautiful french braid that reached the middle of her back, she had pieces of hair framing her face with a soft curl to them. She had on that necklace again. She had on some  white sandals and a silver anklet to go with it, she had a messenger bag on her right side, with a nikon digital camera around her neck.
She was looking at the flower stand. Mama was watching from her balcony and she glared at me, I put my hands up in surrender and walked over to her slowly. I grabbed a sunflower and tapped her on the shoulder. She turned around and smiled at me “How did you know those were my favorite?” as she smelled it. I gave her a devil may care smile and paid the attendant for the flower. “Just a lucky guess” I said with a shrug as we began walking down the french quarter. I pointed to one of the trees on the street “See those beads?” i pointed up to the purple, green and gold beads, dangling from the trees, she nodded and picked up her camera “These get thrown during Mardi Gras and the rules are fairly simple, you do not pick them up from the ground or if they have fallen from a tree, it is bad luck and frowned upon by the locals. You are better off trying to catch them mid air” she took everything in as if she was seeing it all again for the first time.
We walked back to my truck as she asked questions mostly about the home that I built her all those years ago. I’ll be honest here, after her death, it took me well over 100 years to see willing step foot in that part of Louisiana again. Even then I stayed away from that house, I hired people to check on it but never myself. It was 2012 when I saved Ms. Freya’s life when I returned to New Orleans. It did take forever to walk into that house but thanks to old Louise I did it rather quickly and I was horrified at the state it was in. So over the last 11 years, room by room, I've repaired the home, made electrical and plumbing upgrades but nothing more. I was saving that part for you.
We made it over to my truck and I opened the passenger side door and offered you a hand up, it was a large step up but I'm a gentleman. “Thank you Sy” as you climbed in, i grabbed the seat belt and buckled you in, your skin blushed that same shade of pink at the close contact. I brush my lips across your forehead, down the side of your face to rest at your ear “Safely first darling” I whispered. Pulling back I gave you a sharp wink before closing the door and jogging around to the driver side of the truck. Opening the door, you jump just a little as I haul myself into the seat and shut the door. “It is not a long drive, on a good day” you nodded as I pulled away from the curb and into the traffic.  You took in the sights along the Quarter, as we jumped on the highway. A few moments passed before  you spoke up “Can we also see Lafayette Cemetery if it's not an inconvenience” I looked over and smiled at you as we turned on the long driveway to the house. “Of course we can on our way back,” I pointed out of my windshield. “Welcome to my family home” , your eyes widened and your mouth dropped as I pulled the truck to a stop and parked in front of our home.
Rory’s POV
It was more beautiful than I could have imagined, Sy had gotten out of the truck and he walked over to my side and opened the door. Undoing my seat belt, I grabbed the little handle to lower myself to the ground when one of Sy’s strong arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me down to him. I steadied myself on my feet and smiled up at him. His eyes sparkled with amusement, as he held me. “Come on let's get you inside”  we walked up the steps and he opened the door for me, i was transported to another world. The open foyer, with the crystal chandelier hanging above our heads as we walked in. On the left side was the ballroom I’ve dreamt of since I was young. Walking into the room, I looked up and saw another chandelier.
“She loved to dance,” Sy said. I turned to see him leaning against the door frame, his arms folded across his chest and one leg crossed behind the other. “ Who?” I asked for clarification. He gave a small smile “ my would have been my, great, great, great grandmother. Aurora Hathaway” his eyes glossed over as if he was reliving a memory. “She died in the early spring of 1865, shortly before my grandfather had the chance to marry her. He is the man I’m named after. Captain James Logan Syverson of the 1st Louisiana Cavalry ” stepping away from the door frame making his way closer to me “ he started building this house in 1862 and finished it in 1863. He surprised her with it several months later after it was all the finishing touches. He had built her, her dream home without her ever realizing it”
I spun around the room slowly taking it all in, visions of elegant women and men flashed through my mind, the music playing, the chattering of voices. Someone dancing with me, a strong arm around my waist, blue eyes that I would never forget “Woah, easy darling.” I focused on that voice as Sy picked me up bridal style and carried me out of the ballroom.  Carrying me down a long hallway,  He kicked open a set of double doors to reveal the most gorgeous kitchen. I was instantly in love with it. He placed me down on the kitchen island, pointing a finger in my face “Do not move little girl” I nodded as he turned to go search through the cupboards.
Returning with a glass and a pitcher of water he poured me a glass and handed it to me “Drink slowly” taking small sips from the glass, he grabbed my right wrist and began to check my pulse. Setting the glass down on the counter next to me, I studied him. His forehead wrinkled as he was concentrating, he looked up at me, those piercing blue eyes. They were beautiful and enchanting, eyes I could have sworn that I looked into and loved and felt the love reflecting back.
Sy smiled down at me, and helped me off the counter “Come here” as we walked up the hall . He pointed to a door on the left hand side. “That room was her sitting room, she loved to read and write so my grandfather gave her a space to do that” we walked closer to the room and he opened the door as his phone began to ring “Go on in, i've got to take this.” he grabbed his cell an swearing it as he walked out of the room, closing the door behind him. I walked around, running my hands along the spine of her books. Taking in the beautiful mahogany desk that was placed by the window. I looked at her desk, her dip pen and ink pot still on top of her desk, fresh paper in the middle of the desk as if she only stepped out moments ago. Picking up the pen I rolled it between my fingers, opening the ink pot to find it empty. Looking around I found a bottle of ink and poured some into the ink pot, and sat down at her desk and wrote on the paper my name and the date.
Setting the pen back in its holder. I looked around the room, there was a warm comforting feeling of being here in this room but also that feeling of heartache. I was drawn to a spot on the desk where there was a small locked drawer.
Taking off my locket, I grabbed the key and prayed to someone that this key would work. I turned it to the right and the drawer unlocked, I pulled it open to reveal an old letter that had my name on it. My heart started racing,my head started to feel dizzy. I turned to  look out the window to see Sy talking to one of the staff. Sy looked up at me in the window and I smiled at him and the world began to spin around me and everything went black.
New Orleans 1865
Aurora’s POV
*One week prior to her death*
I looked out the window as the last of the cold weather had passed. He was coming for Logan and I cannot  help but feel powerless. I know the bargain I made will keep him safe but I had to give my life to save him and that is a price I'm willing to pay, time and time again.
Papa LeBlanc ensures that we will indeed meet again one day, but only when he is ready.. I don't know if he ever will be after what is going to happen, but I’d rather wait in the shadows for him, than end up in the hands of that monster August.
I'd wait over 100 lifetimes to join him again.. For my love for him is unmatched to anything I've ever felt before. Arlene and Charlotte admitted they didn't know when August was coming but I've made my peace with it. My death will give Logan the fire he needs to fight. Finishing off my letter I placed it in the drawer and locked it. Placing the little key on the same chain as my locket. I stood up and made my way out of my reading room for the last time.
*1 week later*
John Davenport had Logan down on his knees with his arm wrapped around his neck.  “It's ok Logan, everything is going to be ok” I told him. He spoke to John in a sharp tone but all I could hear was my heart beating pounding in my ear. “You know old sport  i hate for it to come to this but you've left me no choice” John snapped his fingers and the thugs sandwiched me between them as one of them withdrew a knife from his back pocket and shoved the blade into my stomach and up to my ribs, it only hurt for a moment but all i could focus on was Logan,  he tried to get to me, but John held him in place as the thugs stepped back and let me collapse. John released him and he came over to me and scooped me up into his arms. He whispered and kissed my head and told me that I was going to be ok.
We both knew that was a lie. As i layed there dying, I thought of the bargain that was struck. I knew I had to die to save Logan but I didn't want to leave him, I didn't want to break him. But I had no choice.
Taking in his tear stain face and blue eyes, I whispered my last words to him. Tears spilling down my cheeks and the blood dribbling out of my mouth. He brought his mouth to mine for one  last kiss. “I’ll find you again” he promised me “No matter how long it takes” my heart fluttered with the confirmation that I would indeed see that man again one day,  I closed my eyes for the last time and I heard him screaming. Everything came rushing back to me all at once, I felt the tears slipping down my face as I heard footsteps running down the hall. “Rory” Sy yelled as he busted into the room. Clutching her letter to my chest I looked at him “I gave my life to save you” I whispered he looked at me perplexed and confused as I ran at him in full force. Wrapping my legs around his torso he sank to his knees. Burning my face into his neck, I sobbed “ I'm so sorry” I whispered repeatedly into his neck. He just rubbed my back and hushed me “It's alright Aurora” he rubbed my back as i continued to cry and tell him how sorry i was.
He held me until my crying stopped and I started to doze on his shoulder. “Hold on little one” I nodded as he stood up with me in his arms and we made our way out of her sitting room and down the hall and out to the back door and into  the garden. He sat with me still  wrapped around him, we sat in a lounge chair under a cabana. I looked around and the garden took my breath away. “ I like to garden in my spare time” laying my head back on his chest, he grabbed a blanket and covered my lower half “ Go on pretty girl, i've got you covered.'' I untucked my legs in an un-lady like manner, and settled between his open legs and laid my head back down.
Rubbing circles in between my shoulder blades, listening to the slow beat of his heart. I’m so sorry Logan "I whispered for the last time as I drifted off on his chest. “ I know my love, I forgive you”

many days ago i was tagged by the lovely @twochildreninamoteldemo to share the first lines of ten of my most recent fanfics and after overcoming a brief period of imposter’s syndrome i finally got around to it!! thank you josiah for thinking of me 💕
ao3 link ❤️
cabin fever (sam/dean, 500 words, g)
With a low fire crackling in the hearth, the interior of their cabin in the middle of the woods is tinged orange, light flickering across the wood paneling and dozens of picture frames hung along the walls.
across state lines (femsam/dean, 13k, e)
Dean always thought Sam was still too young the first time she asked to join him and Dad on a hunt, still all bony knees and cheeks soft like dough.
a round trip journey in your head (sam/dean, 7k, m)
Imagine this: You’ve been in love with the same person for your whole life, but you haven’t seen them in two years.
coda (credence barebone/percival graves, 10k, m)
Numbing pain spreads through his veins, writhing around tendons and sinews and brittle bones until it’s as if his fingertips are on fire, until every muscle is tense to the point of bursting.
miles to go before i sleep (gravebone, 3k, t)
It’s when darkness descends that he comes.
encore (gravebone, 8k, m) - probably my favorite work
It’s two weeks later that they see each other again.
i did decide to skip my tainted past as a star wars reader insert/ofc writer 😮‍💨 gonna share the first lines (or what are currently the first lines) of my main wips instead, in the hope that it motivates me to open gdocs again. they may or may not see the light of day at some point. 🤔
buried above ground (femsam/dean)
Sweat runs down from Sam’s temple to her chin, leaving behind a streak of clean in the layer of sweat, dirt and grass, residue of the soccer field.
blood drops and cheeto dust (sam/dean)
Sam has heard bones break before, but now, in the crypt-like basement dwelling of the djinn they’ve been tracking for days, the cracks of Dean’s fingers being crushed beneath the djinn’s feet resound across bare concrete walls in a way that Sam feels right in the marrow of his own bones.
not like this (sam/dean)
The air is clean. It’s a wood cabin, paneled orange floor to ceiling, deer heads on the walls, and somewhere in the one bedroom off the hallway a stuffed-full duffle bag sits at the foot of a made bed.
topography of secrets (sam/dean)
“Fucking hate witches,” says Dean, and Sam looks over at his brother, at the dusk-orange tint to his skin, at the disgusted little frown distorting his face, at the rays of the setting sun that breach through the thicket of the treetops making his hair appear light blond. He looks away.

No spoilers, but maybe.
Fun for young adults age readers with cartoonish, but bloody zombie eatings. Reader beware! Young Zombie is meta-fiction from the novel, The Paper Boy, which is set in the mid-90s. OC Asks: Rietta, Josiah, Emenor
Ooh, thank you!
Rietta
Something really awesome they can do
Her enjoyment of ice skating extends beyond the basics to a few actual figure skating techniques--some jumps and spins and even a few “special figures” (tracing elaborate patterns on the ice with one skate).
A person, creature, or thing they adore
If asked, she “adores” most people, but her friendship with Rachel--the first “normal” person in her life, someone who for her embodies the adventurous, well-traveled life she longs for--is going to be important.
A secret they’re hiding
She initially hides her identity from Rachel (this foreigner doesn’t recognize her, and it’s fun to pretend to be an ordinary girl for once), and then hides her friendship with Rachel from her mother and regency council (rather awkward to explain that she’s been bonding with not only a commoner but a Dissident who probably hates the monarchy or something).
Something they truly fear
Riding on trains. She’s enthusiastic about every other means of travel, but trains make her...not ill, but uncharacteristically nervous and paranoid, especially if going fast. This has everything to do with the fact that her father died in a train wreck, and her mother and everybody else in her circles are generally very understanding, but...there’s no way for her to completely avoid it.
A fond memory of theirs
When she was very little, she and her parents were watching a fireworks display from a balcony. She was having trouble seeing over the rail, so her father lifted her up onto his shoulders. She sat up there a long time, wriggling with his excitement and holding on to his hair. It was like hers, dark and curly, and she accidentally pulled it a little but he didn’t get angry, only asked her to stop. She doesn’t remember his face clearly, but his hair and his hands on her knees are still very vivid in her memory.
A place or item which gives them strong feelings
The crypt where her father and brother and ancestors are buried is cold and solemn and sad but also oddly homelike since she and her mother have been visiting at least annually since she was small. She’s gotten used to interacting (one-sidedly, obviously) with the stone effigies on the tombs. Etriat’s tomb has a space beside it for Tietra someday, and Rietta frequently climbs onto it  and sits there and leaves flowers and other objects in his effigy’s empty hand (designed to hold Tietra’s effigy’s one day, as stipulated in his will).
A dream or ambition for the future
She’d like to finish what her father had started and establish fully amicable relations with Otionovia instead of the currently begrudging truce. With family on both sides, she’d much prefer everyone not to be simmeringly hostile, and both countries could profit from each other.
Naive of her, probably, since I don’t think she realizes the extent Otionovia is still prepared to attack and conquer Faysmond and anywhere else if they can get away with it, but it’s not a dream she’s likely to give up lightly once she reaches her majority.
An angsty fact about them
In her deepest, darkest, most insecure moments, she fears she will allow her natural tendency to seek her own pleasure/amusement to get in the way of her responsibilities and render her a bad monarch, hated by her people. It’s important to her to be a good queen, but it’s so easy not to live up to expectations.
A domestic fact about them
She knows how to cook a few simple dishes and bake bread, only because she’s gotten bored and lonely enough to hang around the castle cook and insist on helping her because her work seems “fun.” She’s served some of her dishes to castle visitors and proudly announced that she made them, only to scandalize everyone (queens stay out of the kitchen!). From then on, she’s had to keep any further efforts secret.
A random other fact
She has always wanted to take the underground public transit system all over Dorin (her capital city). Not privately on a special tour for her benefit as monarch, but crowded in with a lot of strangers. Given any chance to get away the next time she visits, she’s likely to attempt it. Dorin’s subway system (or whatever they call it) was one of the city’s renovations after the war (designed to protected from any potential danger and give the citizens a place to gather if they’re ever attacked again) and runs through brightly-lit tunnels that include shops and sidewalks and colorful murals, so it doesn’t feel underground.
Josiah
Something really awesome they can do
He can work complex math problems in his head, plays two instruments proficiently by the time he’s twelve, and has minute knowledge of Liennese history, government, military, etc. including possibly memorizing the entire system of train routes with their schedules.
(Most of that was required education, but the train memorization began as a technique to try to distract himself from motion sickness during frequent travels in an official capacity.)
A person, creature, or thing they adore
The last person he got very attached to was his mother. Since her death, the major of his regard has been transferred to his father, although post-Nyella’s-death Odren isn’t really someone whom it’s particularly feasible to “adore.”
A secret they’re hiding
He’s been experiencing unusual and frequent pain increasingly since starting school but hasn’t mentioned it to anyone. He attributes it to “poorly-cooked Coregean food” and is counting on it to gradually vanish as he adjusts to his new residence. Any day now.
Something they truly fear
Exposure. For everyone to find out that deep down he fails to live up to the model future-king image he has to project and is really lazy and weak and unintelligent and spiteful and ordinary (...which is debatable, but on some level he’s terrified that that’s who he really is).
A fond memory of theirs
He’s been attending concerts for longer than he can remember, but the earliest one he recalls featured a piano soloist. He sat still and quiet and enjoyed the music, and when the musician came to the royal box to be congratulated by the king and queen, Josiah got to present her with flowers. Without being prompted, he told her that her music was pretty and thanked her for it. His parents were very proud of him.
A place or item which gives them strong feelings
He prefers to avoid strong feelings, but those associated with his collection of medals and orders and other decorations are acceptable. He loves opening the velvet-lined box they live in and reveling in how many of them there are, and when they’re pinned on, he feels like something missing in him has been restored.
A dream or ambition for the future
To be among the few (if any?) pupils at Hollingham ever to get perfect marks on literally everything. Which is utterly unrealistic, but he’s convinced that if anyone can do that, it’s he.
An angsty fact about them
He probably has not been hugged or received any other affectionate physical contact since he was about seven years old and if asked would say he was entirely fine with that.
A domestic fact about them
What he misses most about home while he’s at school is his private sitting room, where he can surround himself with his interests and comforts in as much solitude as he wants. His room at school is tolerably comfortable but needs to decrease its Elystan levels by 100% before it can meet his standards.
A random other fact
Like nearly every Liennese citizen, he has a decent singing voice and probably is in choir at Hollingham along with his continuing piano and violin lessons. (...along with running and fencing and debate and various school societies etc. etc. This child takes about a bazillion extracurriculars.)
Emenor
Something really awesome they can do
As if being a violinist who has played for royalty weren’t enough? She knits a lot too and has unconsciously developed a system of working notes into the pattern whenever her mind wanders to music. There are probably a few brief tunes worked into Tamett’s scarf if one could figure them out.
A person, creature, or thing they adore
She and her brother Tamett have been partners in crime since early childhood. He is her confidante and her biggest fan, and she is very protective of him and would have given Josiah a piece of her mind on his behalf long ago if her parents didn’t stop her.
A secret they’re hiding
She wrote a thank you letter to Josiah after playing for him at the palace and being given a new (to her) violin. He actually sent her a reply, which she refuses to show anyone...and they may or may not be still exchanging the occasional letter.
Something they truly fear
Poverty. Her family has had money troubles her entire life, and she learned early that her love for music was both a potential source of income and a drain on resources. Her parents can’t be trusted not to pocket any money of their children’s (one of her early memories is of being woken up by the sound of her father sneaking into her room to “borrow” some cash from the jar she kept her little supply of birthday money savings), so she’s been building up a private bank account for years to fund her musical education and/or have something to fall back on in an emergency.
A fond memory of theirs
Lying on her back with Tamett and Lovisa in their half-finished tree house the summer before he left for school, watching clouds and chatting about something utterly inane that somehow the lot of them found unspeakably hilarious. She’d like to live in that moment for a long time.
A place or item which gives them strong feelings
Her violin of Otionovian make that used to belong to the palace has such exquisite sound and craftsmanship that she would carry it everywhere--admiring whenever not playing--if she could. She likes to imagine it belonged to some distinguished composer before the palace acquired it; there is zero evidence for this, but it’s more interesting than a backstory of some royal household official ordering a new imported model years ago.
A dream or ambition for the future
Touring Lienne and the surrounding nations as a famous violinist is pretty high on the list, of course.
An angsty fact about them
Succeeding in the Liennese musical world as a Noriberrian is going to be a challenge for her once she gets to the conservatory, and she’s bound to face plenty of prejudice, snubbing, and suspicion--especially if it ever got that she at least low-key supports Noriberrian independence--to a degree that will be a new and unpleasant experience. If she can endure it without dropping out.
A domestic fact about them
She and Lovisa share a room, which, although they get along reasonably well otherwise, has led to plenty of dramatic disputes and dissatisfactions. For years, Emenor has been petitioning to be allowed to move into an attic room. She would be far enough from the rest of the house for her practicing not to bother anyone, and she could fix the place up so it would hardly seem like an attic at all. But the answer has consistently been no, much to the relief of the servants whose quarters are on that floor.
A random other fact
She has experimented with playing her violin to Cille’s chickens to see if that would make them lay better (after she read an article somewhere about how that works for plants and made a connection from there to chickens for some reason). Results have been inconclusive. Most of the time the chickens walk away after a few moments, even though Emenor has berated them many times as a rude audience and worse.

Tumblr media
Beatrice “Bea” Colvin.  Vampire. Around 500 years old. Nathan’s progeny, turned when she was 15 to save her from the plague. Traveled under Nathan’s protection for centuries, was hesitant to be out on her own because of her young looks. Spent some time as a nun in a convent until her not aging would give her away. Is basically a ball of sunshine, but will snap if provoked and remind people that she is old and powerful. Is extremely loyal to Nathan and loves him dearly, would do anything for him. She likes to travel, but considers Awosting her home.
Tumblr media
Josiah Manning.  32. Witch. Older brother to Kit Manning, born into the Circle of the Silver Thread coven, his parents were two of the founding members. This makes his bloodline very powerful, and he was exposed to magic at a young age and took to it very quickly and easily. When their parents were killed--supposedly by hunters, but the siblings suspect some kind of magic accident--Josiah raised his little sister from that point on, and he is still extremely protective of her. He is also her mentor in all things magic, and works with her to hone her skills. Josiah is a trusted and reliable member of the coven, and acts as Mercy’s second in command. He often has a no-nonsense attitude towards the rest of his coven-mates, and does not suffer being lied to. Beneath the exterior though, Josiah can be warm and loving, and he is loyal to a fault. He possesses a very deep and powerful well of magic, and is particularly gifted with flames. Josiah has a familiar in the form of an orange corn snake who goes by Hephaestus, though Josiah typically calls him Heph. He works as a metal craftsman/modern day blacksmith, using his affinity for flames towards a creative outlet. His workshop is called The Forge, and is behind the house he inherited from his parents.
Tumblr media
Freya McCall. 18. Witch. Biological daughter of Mercy Sibley, conceived and later born in the midst of very old and powerful rituals. However, Mercy gave the child to a trusted couple of witches within the coven, Mark and Elizabeth McCall. The McCalls come from a long line of witches, however were never able to conceive a child of their own. At the time, Mercy had been on the run and taking care of other business overseas, and thought it best to let her child be adopted by her coven-mates. Freya has gone her whole life not knowing she is adopted, believing the McCalls to be her biological family. She was raised in Awosting with the support of the coven around her, and took to magic like a duck takes to water. However, the last few years as she grew from a child to a teenager, Freya’s magic has become powerful and unpredictable. Her adopted parents do their best to teach her and reign her powers in, but they are tied to her moods and outbursts happen. Once she accidentally called down a lightning bolt in broad daylight, which struck a tree next to their house and caused a fire and the tree to collapse onto their roof. After that, the McCalls went to Mercy to plead with her to take a role in helping them help Freya. Since then, Freya has been meeting with Mercy, who she still believes to be her coven leader and not connected to her in any other way, for lessons and training. The other young witches of the coven see this as favoritism, and it has caused Freya to become something of an outcast.
Tumblr media
Cecil Sinclair. Witch-ish. 26. Cecil was born in Awosting to two members of the Coven, though he has no memory of it. When he was one year old, his parents took him along with them to New York City on a mission from Mercy, though no one was told where they want or what they were up to. Whatever it was they were messing with caused their deaths, disguised as a hit and run with Cecil as the only survivor. No identification was left on them, and the city police were not able to track down any relatives. It was all very mysterious and went unexplained in the files, and Cecil was left in the care of an orphanage since no blood relatives could be found. The only reason they even had a name for him was because it was written on his diaper bag--but when the police tried to track down people with that last name, whoever answered claimed no relation, so Cecil was left on his own. He was wickedly smart as a child, though socially awkward, a side-effect of the magic within him that was going un-trained. Psychic abilities run in his family, and for Cecil it manifests in a “vibe” he gets from reading people’s auras. As he grew older, his abilities also grew even though he didn’t understand it--he was drawn to cemeteries and crypts, led by something he referred to as a “tingly feeling,” which was his power as a medium coming forth. It made him intensely curious about the past, as this “feeling” often led to him uncovering cool things and stories. By the time he was ready to graduate high school--having lived his entire life in New York City in the group home--he received a full ride to NYU to study in their Archaeology and Anthropology programs. He immediately loved it, delving into his studies, learning ancient languages, and blending his ease with modern technology with his love for uncovering the past. During his Master’s program, which sent him overseas on digs, Cecil met his first vampire. Remy DuPont was a fellow traveler and researcher, a professional in the field Cecil had thrown himself into, the difference being that Remy had lived through the past that so called to Cecil. Cecil started following him around like a lost puppy, trying to soak up every bit of knowledge Remy could give him. After a few run-ins with him, Cecil proved himself useful by helping Remy understand the modern world and getting him into places where he’d stand out on his own. As soon as Cecil graduated, the two became a “dynamic duo,” as Cecil puts it. He was hired as Remy’s research assistant, and they spent basically every waking moment together as they travel the world uncovering ancient secrets, bringing their finds back to Awosting to either Lex’s vault or Remy’s personal library. The more Cecil learns about magic and the supernatural, the more his interest is piqued, and he is still endlessly curious. Lucky for him, he has a very old vampire, who associates with other very old vampires, at his side to protect him when he ends up digging too deep. Recently, Cecil has discovered that he has family ties in Awosting and one blood relative remaining, a cousin named Luna. Though, he is reluctant to meet her or start any kind of relationship and keeps putting it off. Despite his quirks and his blunt-awkwardness around people, Cecil is naturally friendly and finds that he gets along with most people who have the patience for him. He particularly loves talking to vampires and picking their brains about their pasts, and he’s a little nervous around witches because he doesn’t know what to expect from his own latent magic.

We’re highlighting Quincy, Massachusetts as Conway’s featured community of the month for February.
Just a 12-mile drive to Boston, Quincy offers two car-free commuter routes on the MBTA. The MBTA commuter rail connects to South Station and the Quincy stop on the Red Line connects to Park Street in downtown Boston.
What we really love about Quincy is that it’s packed with some top-shelf destinations and attractions that you’ll want to visit again and again. Here’s our picks for the top 10 best places to visit in Quincy.
Adams National Historical Park
Travel back in time at the Adams National Historical Park and visit the birthplaces of not one, but two U.S. presidents, John Adams, and John Quincy Adams is his son. Visit Peacefield, the stately Adams mansion that served as the Summer White House for both Adams presidents and as a home to generations of their descendants.
Marina Bay
With its charming boutiques, Nantucket-style boardwalk, superb restaurants, and breathtaking views of the Boston skyline, Marina Bay has become Boston’s premiere waterfront entertainment destinations. Marina Bay also serves as an active working marina, with powerboats and sailboats docking at the 685 slips, and includes accommodations available for crafts up to 210 feet, electricity, water, and free parking.
U.S. Naval Shipbuilding Museum
Located on the site of the former Quincy shipyard, the U.S.S. Salem, a Cold War-era heavy cruiser, serves as home to the United States Naval Shipbuilding Museum. The U.S.S. Salem offers visitor a chance to experience life on the former flagship of the U.S - Sixth Fleet.
Granite Railway / Quarry Exhibits
The Granite Railway, built in 1826, was America’s first commercial railway, assembled for transporting Quincy granite to Charlestown for the construction of the Bunker Hill Monument. The remains of the Railway’s incline are located at the end of Mullin Avenue in West Quincy. Granite quarrying exhibits are also on display in the Presidents Place Galleria in Quincy Center.
Boston Belle Boat Charters
Based at Marina Bay, Boston Belle Charters has been in business since 1998. This boat charter service offers Boston Harbor cruises perfect for special occasions like anniversaries and family reunions. Choose one of their package cruises or put together your own customized cruise.
Golf Courses
Quincy offers visitors three golf courses including Granite Links Golf Club, an award-winning private membership club that also welcomes public visitors.
United First Parish Church
This historic church, known as the Church of Presidents, was built from Quincy granite in 1828 with funds provided by President John Adams. Tours of the church include an unforgettable visit to the Adams crypt, where John Adams, John Quincy Adams, and their wives are interred.
Wollaston Beach
Over 2 miles of shoreline make Wollaston Beach the largest Boston Harbor beach, located along Quincy Shore Drive in the Wollaston neighborhood of Quincy. Views of Boston and recreational swimming and boating facilities make it a popular summer destination. Wollaston Beach is home to the historic Squantum and Wollaston Yacht Clubs.
Josiah Quincy House
Built in 1770 as a country estate by revolutionary patriot Colonel Josiah Quincy, this colonial home is believed to have served as a lookout point from which the Patriots could observe British ships traveling in and out of Boston Harbor. Colonel Quincy was the first in a long line of Josiah Quincys, a line that would produce three mayors of Boston and a president of Harvard University.

Young Zombie Kickstarter
Tumblr media
First, please head over to Kickstarter and follow the project so you'll be notified when Young Zombie launches December 1. Now, December is not the ideal time to do a Kickstarter, but I'll be at LA Comic Con when it launches so I hope with that, and your help we'll reach our modest goal of $500. Now, what is this Kickstarter all about?
Tumblr media
Young Zombie is the story of a zombie boy (Gary) and his dog (Ernie). The comic tells the story of exactly who Gary became a zombie. It involves various valuable Star Wars collectibles, a zombie in a suit and Gary's friend Frank.
This comic has a long tortured history, but I really love the story and the characters and finally decided to "bring it back to life." With that I wanted to do something special. The interior art was done a very long time ago by Cai Willis, so I had my friend Bryan Langer design a cover using Cai's art but in a Tales from the Crypt style. That became our standard cover, I also had artist Rick Strieck, do his take on the characters, and finally, comic book legend Bill Maus did an original brand new cover for this campaign. I'll include bios with the cover below.
I'll be posting daily here with more info about the campaign this week so be sure to check back regularly.
Tumblr media
The brilliant flowing cinematic art within these 20 pages comes from Cai Willis. Cai also designed the characters, doing detailed model sheets giving them distinct personality (including the addition of Frank's hat). Cai is a storyboard artist who has worked on SpongeBob Squarepants, The Muppet Babies (which is so good, by the way), Big Mouth and more. This book would not exist without Cai's interpretation of Josiah's words.
Bryan Langer is a set designer, art director and production designer, best known for The Last Man on Earth. In a career that’s covered low budget independent film to major network television. Bryan was available due to a few recent Hollywood strikes. Bad news for Bryan, good news for us, as this overly talented person has time to help out a friend. Bryan designed the Tales From the Crypt inspired cover and did the other assembly for the book. Beyond that, he’s a friend Josiah couldn’t function without, let alone produce a comic book.
Tumblr media
Rick Strieck's art hangs on the wall in Judy and Josiah's house. It features a zombie couple holding hands over a bloody heart, called "Love at First Bite." Upon seeing it Josiah knew he had to have Rick do his take on these characters. Rick is a Los Angeles based artist and resident at The Hive Gallery, where he and Josiah met.
Tumblr media
The Bill Maus cover is a dream come true. This is the zombie comic Bill would have made in the 90s had he and Josiah collaborated when Josiah was 11. Bill is most well known for his work on Zen: Intergalactic Ninja in the 1990s, bringing an Image Comics level of detail and action to the book. He continues to create comics, including his own character Nira X, who first appeared in Zen. Note, Bill's cover is NOT final and will also be in full color.
