"you're always the car crash ronan" of course he is!! what else could he possibly be? he's an ancient being shrunken down and shoved into the body of a gay 18 year old boy yet still left with the capacity to feel the full intensity of every human emotion imaginable in it's entirety and create things beyond comprehension without the knowledge of why or how or most importantly what for. one day he wakes up to find the family he depends on to give him a place in this world shattered and broken at his feet and has nowhere to go and he can't go home. he's a fast car on a closed track... what else is left for him to do but spin out???

I do think that part of the reason that The Dreamer Trilogy is Like That is because the premise is inherently flawed in that The Raven Cycle was originally magical realism, a genre that doesn't rely on explanations for magic and magic systems and actually coasts on them being unexplainable, whereas The Dreamer Trilogy had to expand the world beyond Henrietta and start explaining things, which makes the whole premise begin to fall apart.

The fact that we went from
When pain and anguish were lifted from Jordan's shoulders, she made a new life; when pain and anguish were lifted from Hennessy's, there was nothing of her left.

Neither Ronan nor Adam had been trained in the difficult and nuanced art of having a future; they had only ever learned the art of surviving the past.

It was all very good.
means a lot to me.

Reminder that mstief has confirmed that pynch is not breaking up!! She tweeted at the beginning of this series that it would be bad writing to break them up after so much work was put into getting them together

“Was Ronan justified in his actions in td3?” “Should Declan/Adam/etc have forgiven Ronan after td3?” I’m team ecoterrorism isn’t even that bad.

The Dreamer Trilogy should have been about Declan!
He was the only one with a truly compelling story arc that ended satisfyingly.
Ronan not being human was a lame rug-pull that had zero consequences on on his story or even the world.
And speaking of zero consequences! All of that ecoterrorism was for nothing! And he didn’t even get punished for it!
Everyone else was super interesting (Henessey, Liliana, Carmen, Jordan, Matthew, Adam) but there wasn’t enough time for any of them to have satisfying storylines, so Maggie just cut them all short.
Ultimately, Maggie should have realized sooner that this was a series about Declan and focused on that. I think she got lost in the weeds trying to make Ronan a metaphor for her illness and disabilities and in the process lost the story part.

did anyone else start reading the raven cycle when they were twelve and it was just the raven boys and then go through their entire teenage years marking time by the release of each new book, constantly online talking about blue, gansey, adam, ronan, noah, glendower, and space-time fuckery, drawing art here and writing stories and making theories here and making friends here, then getting the dreamer trilogy in their early twenties as their own world starts to shift dramatically in time with the characters, only to get to the final epilogue and start sobbing here, at this line?
because yes being a teenager sucked and this book series made it better. it made it so very much better. and we will all always love, love this group of friends because we feel like we are a part of it, but them growing up and recognizing how something more both gives and takes is so important to me. they're all moving on to relatively normal adult lives and somehow that means i can, too.
excelsior.

rereading raven boys right now and there's something so delightful about the way that everyone in the novel is so caught up with the line between choice and destiny that they forget to examine or take stock in themselves at all to the point where they find themselves unlovable because their own lives are beyond their control .. like because adam can't accept gansey's help everyone must hate him. and blue can't choose to be in or out of love with gansey without thinking everyone must hate her. and ronan is pulling things out of his dreams believing all he does is hurt other people meanwhile he's what? taking care of a baby bird in his backpack at school because she needs to be fed every three hours?? don't even get me started on how much gansey hates himself. it's all so sad and perfect and 15 years old and i remember it so much even though i wish i didn't
