When I say the show is spelling things out too much at times, I don't mean it's a horrible show or doing things terribly out of character, but Jessie is a perfect example of the consequences of those types of changes on the story.

Jessie is a community above himself kind of guy. He is very selfless and kind and an amazing friend. Him telling us that, and the show focusing on the hard parts of that, and the resentment that can come from that behavior doesn't make for the same type of audience response to him as the game's silently sacrificing and supporting, but also true to himself despite opposition, Jessie.

I'm trying to figure out how to put it into words. It's not that Show Jessie doesn't feel similar to Game Jessie with more outward expressions of his darker feelings, but it entirely changes the audience's emotional experience, especially when he was going to DIE. We are going to see and feel his sacrifice, no matter what, but instead of feeling the loss of one of Ellie's closest friends, who tried to support and understand her despite making choices he may not love, who she last minute pushed away for revenge and then started reconciliation, we *only* get the side of Jessie that resents Ellie when things get rough and then died.

We are told to feel sorry for Jessie. Told he was close to Ellie. Yet, we never saw Jessie and Ellie actually *really* get along, not even in Jackson. They argue during every single conversation. He comes across more like a coworker she gets along with or a somewhat friend she's not in the best place with even pre-everything.

If the show were longer, and we'd gotten to see more of close friends Jessie and Ellie before this turn, I'd have no real issue with Jessie's response to Ellie at Seattle. But we didn't. Their relationship matters to the larger story. He's the first person she lost to her revenge. Changes aren't the problem, Dina is absolutely different, but her relationship with Ellie is still just as strong. But this weakened Jessie and Ellie's.

this literally exemplifies everything that we’ve been saying. Lando hasn’t done a single thing to be this disliked except be himself, and if that’s that much of a problem to people then they should have a much bigger issue with many other drivers with even bigger personalities. this amount of hate is not normal. you want drivers to have personality, but you hate the ones that are true to themselves.
