When your alarm went off, you were naked in your bed. With a naked Steve beside you. A small groan passing between his lips, Steve reached around you to turn off the alarm clock and then cuddled into you.
“Hmmm,” you hummed, enjoying his arms around you way too much. “You have to get up now.”
“What?” Steve mumbled, half asleep. “What time is it?”
You smirked, rolling on top of him. “It’s 5:20, and I have pre-rounds. And you,” you booped his nose, “have to leave before they see you.”
You gave him a small kiss before rolling off of him.
“Oh, come on, now,” Steve grumbled. “Why don’t you just let them see?” He quickly rolled on top of you, pinning you down.
“No!”
“Please!”
“No! No!”
He began placing kisses all over you. Saying, ‘please’, between eat kiss.
“Steve!” You squealed. “St-stoppp!
~~~
“You two get any sleep?” Scott asked, walking into the kitchen where Val and Clint were eating.
“Oh, she could oil the bedsprings as a courtesy or at least buy a padded headboard,” Val complained.
“So, uh, who’s the guy?” Clint asked.
“You think it was just one guy doing all that work?”
“Yeah, do you mind if I don’t think about that?”
“Oh, you jealous, Barton?” Scott teased.
“I’m not jealous.”
“Well, I am,” Val responded. “But at least I know she’ll be having a long day at work.”
They all froze when they heard a floor board near the top of the stairs squeak. The three of them rushed over to the doorway, wanting to see who was coming down the stairs. Steve snuck down the stairs and out the door, seen by Val, Clint, and Scott.
“Well, at least we know that brain surgery isn’t his only skill,” Val commented, going to get more coffee.
“They—they can’t be…” Clint stared at the front door in shock. “He’s… he’s our boss.”
“Yep,” Scott replied, glancing at his watch. “We’re late. You know, she has been scrubbing in a lot lately on his surgeries.”
“No, Y/N wouldn’t sleep with him just to… no.”
“Well, if she’s not ashamed of it, why is she keeping it a secret?” Val wondered.
“Maybe she didn’t. Maybe it just happened. You know, spontaneously, last night.”
“Good morning,” you greeted, entering the kitchen.
“Morning,” Val and Scott responded.
“So…” Val started, “it sounded like you were having some pretty radical sex last night, all night long. Who was the guy?”
“No one you know,” you lied with a shrug.
Clint, Scott, and Val all gave each other a look.
“We’re late,” Scott said. “Let’s go.”
~~~
“I’m gonna beed a major rush to make it through this day,” Clint said in the locker room. “I need a kick-ass surgery.”
“Ooh, you a bad boy last night, Clint?” Peter taunted.
“No,” Val answered for him. “That would be Y/N.”
“You a bad boy, Y/N?”
“Do tell,” Natasha urged.
“Nothing to tell,” you shrugged.
“That says it all, huh?”
Val slammed her locker door shut, annoyed at your lies.
“Sorry, I have a sex life,” you apologized.
“Don’t apologize,” Peter said. “Embrace it. Share it. Count me in.”
“Yeah, next time, just let me know if I need to go to a hotel so I can get some sleep,” Val said.
“Am I missing something?” You asked.
“You were just a little loud,” Scott replied.
Everyone left except you and Natasha.
“Do they know it’s Captain McDreamy keeping them up all night?” Natasha asked.
“I hope not,” you answered. “I already have Gamora riding me, I don’t need my roommates thinking I’m getting special treatment.”
~~~
You yawned as you and Natasha met up with the other interns and Dr. Gamora. You just hoped that you didn’t look as tired as you felt.
“Barton, Romanoff, Lang, Quill, go on to the clinic,” Gamora ordered. She looked up, catching Clint watch Steve through a window. Steve was putting in eye drops. “Barton, patients are waiting.” Clint scurried off. “You two,” Gamora motioned to you and Val, “come with me. Val, you’re hanging with me today.” Steve walked over. “Good morning, Dr. Rogers.”
“Dr. Gamora,” he replied as you yawned. “Late night, L/N?”
“No,” you responded, “caffeine just hasn’t kicked in yet.”
“If you’re at all religious, you would want to start praying it kicks in soon,” Gamora retorted. “There’s a consult in the pit. Girl with a fever and abdominal pain. After that, Lee in 3311 needs his meds. Mr. Jackson’s IV fell out, and he’s a hard stick. Post-ops in 1337, 3342, 3363, and 2381.”
You had nodded along, trying to get your tired brain to understand what she was saying. “3381, 3342, 3363,” you repeated, “and 23… 81?”
Gamora simply glared at you instead of answering what you needed. “Why are you still standing in front of me?”
You quickly hurried down to the pit, not wanting to get on Gamora’s bad side anymore than you already were. You started your consultation with an eighteen year old girl named Jessie Todd. Her mother and father were both accompanying her. Jessie seemed nervous, biting her nails.
“I think she got some bug on her trip to Mexico with her friends,” Mrs. Todd said. “I told her not to go to a third-world country, but does she ever listen?”
“She’s been weak ever since and she’s lost weight,” Mr. Todd worried.
“Barely,” Jessie mumbled.
“And this morning, she passed out in the shower.”
“When was the trip?” You asked.
“A couple weeks ago,” Jessie answered. “I’m really fine. I just have a fever.”
“Okay, well, will you lie back for an exam for me?”
“No, please, I don’t need an exam. Just give me some antibiotics and send me home.”
“Well, maybe it is just a fever, but they called down for a surgeon, so I have to give the ok to let you go. So just let me do the exam.”
“Do the exam,” Mr. Todd urged.
“No. This is crazy. I’m fine.”
“For God's sake, Jessie, I don't want to spend my entire day here,” Mrs. Todd exclaimed.
“You know, actually, Mrs. Todd, this might be easier if we had some privacy,” you told the parents, sensing that Jessie was worried about their reactions to whatever was going on. “So would you two mind leaving the room?”
“That’s fine,” Mr. Todd said, guiding his wife away.
Jessie lied down and you began to push at her stomach.
“Ow,” Jessie complained. “Don’t push so hard.”
“Can you lift your shirt so I can examine your stomach?” You requested. With a sigh, Jessie slowly lifted her shift, revealing pink scars. “Where did you get these? Jessie… you've had surgery recently. These scars are still pink.”
“Don’t tell my parents.”
“You did this in Mexico so your parents wouldn't know? What did you have done?”
“I can’t tell you.”
“Jessie—“
“I can’t!”
With a sigh, you walked away, ordering a CT for Jessie before heading to help the other patients that Gamora had for you.
~~~
You at just finished Gamora’s last job for you when she paged. You were quickly to go find her.
“You paged?” You questioned, finding her near a nurses station.
“Where are we?” She asked.
“I did the consult, did the IV, the meds, the Post-ops, everything.”
“How is your pit patient?”
“She’s febrile and has peritoneal signs.”
Both you and Gamora’s attentions go to Natasha, who is walking by looking ill.
“You alright, Romanoff?” Gamora wondered, not caring all that much.
“Fine,” Natasha responded, waving it off as she kept going. “On my way back to the clinic.”
“Anyway, about the pit patient.”
“I think she had some sort of illegal surgery done in Mexico,” you stated.
“Botched abortion?”
“No. She has four laparoscopic scars on her abdomen and won't say what they're from, the parents are clueless.”
“She’s a minor.”
“Seventeen. Freshman in college.”
“You order up for a CT?”
“Yes,” you nodded.
“So while she's there, the nurses couldn't get a Foley on Mr. Garay. He may need a Coude cath if you can't get a normal one in there. Write up post-op notes on all surgical-floor patients that had surgery within the last 24 hours. Be sure to document their EKG's and x-rays. Hunt them down if you can't find them.”
“Right away.”
~~~
You were exhausted by the time Jessie’s CT scans came back. Gamora was really working you to the bone. Of course, it didn’t help that you had spent most of the night up with Steve, having some of the most enjoyable sex you’ve ever had. But that wasn’t the point. Scans in hand, you found Gamora at the nurses station near the lobby.
“Dr. Gamora?” You walked up to her. “Jessie Todd’s abdominal CTs.” You handed her the scans.
She took them, holding them up to study them. “Is this girl fat?”
“Not at all,” you shook your head. “She’s a normal college kid.”
“So,” she handed the scans back to you, “what do you see?”
You took them back and studied them yourself. “Her stomach’s stapled. She’s had a gastric bypass.”
“And a bad one at, at that.”
Jessie Todd was moved into a patient room. So you and Gamora requested to speak to her parents outside of the hallway. You were tasked to explain to them what at happened.
“Gastric bypass is a procedure normally done on obese patients to help them lose weight,” you stated, after telling them what their daughter had done.
“Jessie?” Mr. Todd questioned. “She doesn’t need to lose weight.”
“Are you kidding?” Mrs. Todd responded. “This means the world to her. But it is so typical of this girl to take the easy way out. She's done it with everything since she was a little kid.”
“Mrs, Todd, nothing about this is gonna be easy,” Gamora said. “She's gonna face a lifelong struggle with malnutrition unless she has surgery to reverse the procedure.”
“Do the surgery,” Mrs. Todd ordered before turning to her husband. “I told her to watch the freshman 15. Don't eat junk, exercise. But when she came home Christmas, who had to take her out and buy her a brand new pair of size 6 jeans because she couldn't get in the ones I got her last summer?”
“Chrissy, you know, she tries so hard,” Mr. Todd retorted. “She does. She gets good grades. She gets A’s.”
“She had illegal surgery in Mexico.”
“Unfortunately, there were complications with the bypass,” Gamora stated.
“What do you mean?” Mr. Todd asked.
“She has what looks like an abscess under her diaphragm, and edema, which is a swelling of the bowel wall. I can't say for certain she'll recover completely.”
“Just do whatever you have to do to make her well, ok?”
“Of course, sir.”
Gamora walked away, and you stayed to check up on Jessie. It was then that Mrs. Todd entered Jessie’s room, angrily.
“Before you guys start,” Jessie quickly said, “I know you’re mad.”
“Disbelief, Jessie,” Mrs. Todd exclaimed. “Just disbelief.”
“I’m just concerned,” Mr. Todd added, much more calmly than his wife. “Where did you get the idea to do this?”
“The internet,” Jessie answered quietly.
“But, honey, there is a healthy way to lose weight,” Mrs. Todd said.
“Yeah, I tried that, but...it doesn't work for me like it does for you.”
“Hey,” Mr. Todd said, putting a hand on his daughter’s leg, “you don’t need to lose weight.”
“What are you eating?” Mrs. Todd quickly wondered. “And how much have you been working out? I mean, you know, most of the time, when people hit their target weight, they have to work to stay there.”
“Everyone gains weight in college, Mom,” Jessie responded. “It’s—it’s stressful. There’s... there's not enough time for exercise. I just thought if I wasn't worried about my diet, then… I could focus more on my studies.”
“So you took yet another shortcut? Life doesn’t work that way, Jessie.”
“Chrissy!” Mr. Todd exclaimed.
“What? You want to argue this?”
Huffing at his wife, Mr. Todd turned to you. “She has so much potential, if she would just apply herself—”
“Okay, okay,” you interrupted, having heard enough. “I think we should focus on taking care of your daughter. And, Jessie, your parents agree, the best thing to do is to reverse the bypass.”
“No!” Jessie shouted. “No, it's my body. I do not want surgery again. Please?”
“There were serious complications. And this is about your health.”
“But I’d rather be thin.”
“Well, I’m afraid the choice isn’t up to you,” Mrs. Todd responded.
~~~
With a sigh, you found yourself pushed up against the wall in the stairwell. You were tired and so over Mrs. Todd.
“Long day?” Tony’s voice came closer.
You opened your eyes to see him walking up the stairs. “You could say that,” you responded. “How’s trying to get a date with Dr. Potts going?”
“Not so well,” he sighed, coming to leaning against the wall beside you. “I’ve been bringing her coffee or tea every morning though. I’m trying.”
“You really screwed up,” you giggled.
“You’re telling me. How are you and Steve?”
“We’re… fine.”
“He told me you were up all last night.”
“What?!”
“Okay, he didn’t tell me. But I can see how tired both of you are. It doesn’t take a genius to figure it out.”
“It’s that obvious? Tony, are you serious? This could totally ruin—“
“Woah, woah, woah. Calm down there, Y/N. I’m just playing with you. Gosh, you need to take a chill pill or something.”
“Sorry, sorry. I’m just… I know we shouldn’t be doing what we are doing.”
“But you enjoy it too much to stop. I get it… I just wish I was getting some too.”
~~~
Natasha was standing in the hall looking nauseous.
“Romanoff!” Clint called, excitedly hurrying up to her. “I’m scrubbing in on a hemispherectomy with Rogers.”
“Get out!” She responded. “I would kill for that.”
“We're gonna cut out half a girl's brain and it's going to work. It's outrageous. Almost makes it hard to hate him.”
“Why do you hate him?”
“Oh, no reason.”
“You know about him and Y/N, don’t you?”
“You know?”
“When are you gonna figure out that I know everything?”
Noticing Val walking up from behind, Clint pointed at Natasha. “She knows.”
“What?” Val questioned. “About Y/N and the Captain?”
“It’s been going on for, like ever,” Natasha commented.
“Seriously?”
“And you didn’t tell us?” Clint wondered.
“Ooh, you’re a gossip, huh?” Natasha responded.
“I am not!”
“I am,” Val said.
“He’s about to go into major brain surgery on no sleep? Not very responsible.”
“Jealous much?” Natasha chuckled. “Sex all night isn't about being responsible.”
“No,” Val agreed, “it’s about sex all night. I can't believe you're not more pissed off about this, you of all people.”
“Well, Y/N works hard all day. She’s good at her job. Why should you care how she unwinds? I mean, you like to bake all night. Some people like to drink. Others like an occasional screaming orgasm.”
~~~
Gamora and you were carefully operating on Jessie in the OR. Gamora was letting you help with more than you thought she would.
“Handle with care,” Gamora advised as she handed you Jessie’s bowel. “This things—“
“Full of gunk,” you responded. “I know.”
“We need to free the bowel from the adhesions caused from the abscess. This poor girl. What was she thinking?”
“She wants her mother's approval. She wanted to please her.”
“And this damage is the result? Here, resect that.”
“Needle-tip Bovie, please,” you requested, handing the bowel back to Gamora.
“When you’re done here, you have post-ops waiting.”
“I know, Dr. Gamora.”
“Natasha also has the flu. So, you need to pick up the slack in the clinic as well.”
“Look, I’ll mop the floors, okay?” That earned you a glare from Gamora. “Sorry, that was inappropriate.”
“It's not the only thing that's inappropriate. While we're on the subject, you care to tell me what you think you're doing?”
“Look, I'll jump through hoops if you want me to. But what I do what I leave this hospital is my business.”
“Half this hospital knows your business. Flu isn't the only virus spreading around here.”
“I made a choice, and I know you don't respect me for that choice. But I'll live with the consequences.”
“Then I'll have lots of hoops for you to jump through.”
“I've done everything you've asked me to do. I may not do it your way but it gets done. So whatever else you got, bring it on.”
Suddenly, Jessie’s bowel burst. Spraying you with toxic waste. You could hear the people watching in the gallery go, ‘ew’.
“Okay, Dr. L/N, now that you’ve drained the organ, we can attempt to repair it,” Gamora said.
“Now my day is perfect,” you muttered.
The nurses tried to clean you up the best they could as you operated. Though they seemed to only make it worse. After the surgery, you and Gamora headed out into the hallway together.
“I need a shower,” you commented.
“No, I need a shower,” Gamora retorted. “You need to go tell that girl's parents what kind of kid they're getting back.”
“You're not gonna let me shower first?”
“That would be a hoop, would it not?”
“It would qualify.”
“Shower first, then.”
You rushed to the locker room. Val and Natasha were already there.
“Ew, what smells?” Val asked as you passed her.
“That would be me,” you answered, "or more specifically, my patient's insides all over me.”
“That makes me strangely happy.”
“Oh, Y/N,” Natasha grimaced, “you smell like—“
“Karma.”
“What?” You asked Val.
“Nothing.”
“Something vile is stuck in your hair,” Natasha told you, pointing to your hairline. “You know, just go stand over there, please.” She shooed you to the other side of the aisle.
“Ugh, how much do I love being a surgeon right now?” You mumbled.
“Karma,” Val laughed.
“What does karma have to do with anything?”
“I'm just saying, you've been given all the best surgeries. And now you smell like putrid goo. And you're giving off a stench. Karma's a bitch.”
Gamora walked into the locker room. “Dr. Rogers needs an intern in surgery,” she stated. “Which one of you is clear?”
“I’m good!” Natasha raised her hand. She was still looking pale. “Where do you want me?”
“You need to lie down somewhere.”
“I’m fine, I’m completely healthy.”
“L/N?”
“Of course,” Val grumbled.
“What is your problem?” You asked Val, annoyed.
“Um, you! Cause apparently you can help Captain McDreamy in ways the rest of us can’t.”
“You did not just say th—“
“Yes, I did!”
“Hey!” Gamora called out. “Natasha, hemispherectomy in OR 1 with Dr. Shepherd. Go.”
Natasha nodded and hurried away. Val marched off as well.
“Apparently, I’m not the only one with hoops,” Gamora smirked.
~~~
After showering, you found Mrs. and Mr. Todd in the lobby. As you walked, you explained to them what had gone on in surgery.
“We were able to reverse the gastric bypass, but we did lose a significant portion of her bowel,” you told them. “And because of the short gut syndrome, Jessie will never eat normally again.”
“Ok, wait, do…” Mr. Todd tried to put his thoughts together. “How do we help her here?”
“Well, getting proper nutrition will be a lifelong problem for Jessie.”
“Great,” Mrs. Todd murmured, annoyed, “as if we already don't have our hands full with her.”
“She gets good grades. She stays out of trouble. She's smart. I just think she feels like nothing she does is good enough for you.”
“If you somehow think that I'm responsible for this…”
“I think Jessie is killing herself to please you.”
“Oh, please. You have no idea what's going on in that girl's mind.”
“You're her mother. She worships the ground you walk on. She didn't do this for herself.”
“I think that this situation is completely—“
“Chrissy, shut up,” Mr. Todd interrupted.
Both you and Mrs. Todd looked shocked as Mr. Todd walked faster to Jessie’s room.
~~~
Clint had had an interesting day, to say the least. He had discovered that the anesthesiologist in Steve’s surgery was drunk. Bringing up to Dr. Rogers, both the anesthesiologist and Dr. Rogers got mad, throwing him out of the surgery. Which is why he needed another intern.
Durning the surgery, Natasha and Dr. Rogers quickly realized that Clint had been right. Allowing Natasha and another doctor to close, Steve requested Clint to met him outside of the OR.
“Let me explain,” Steve began.
“It’s fine,” Clint responded.
“No, there is a code among doctors. We're not supposed to ask each other questions, not within the walls of this hospital.”
“Okay, so, I was out of line.”
“No, you weren't. I was. I was out of line. Somebody should have taken responsibility. It should have been the guy doing the cutting. It should have been me. You didn't deserve what happened to you today. You did the right thing code or no code.” Steve held out his hand for Clint to shake. Hesitantly, Clint shook it. “You saw me leave the house this morning, didn’t you?”
Clint pulled his hand away. “Oh, was that you?”
“Hmm. I’m not using her. And I don’t favor her.”
“She’s pretty great, you know.”
“Mm-hmm. I know.”
~~~
You went to Jessie, getting her into a wheel chair so that you can walk her around while talking to her alone. You had made a phone call, and you needed to tell her about it.
“Did you fix me?” Jessie asked, after the two of you walked in silence for awhile.
“No, not completely,” you responded.
“So, I won’t get fat?”
“No.”
“Oh. That’s awesome.”
“Jessie, I’ve asked social services to contact your parents.”
“What? Why?”
“They can help you.”
“With what?”
“You don't know this yet, but life isn't supposed to be like this. It's not supposed to be this hard. And your mom… she isn’t suppose to treat you this way.”
~~~
You were so extremely grateful when you were finally allowed to go home. It was late, so you were expecting your roommates to be asleep. When you entered the kitchen, you found Val frosting a cake.
“I thought you’d be asleep by now,” you commented, searching for food.
“Yeah, well, I’m not,” Val retorted. “If you wait a few minutes, you can have a piece of cake. Baked it chock-full of love. Actually, chock-full of unrelenting, all consuming rage and hostility, but it's still tasty.”
“So you know?”
“I know.”
“Well, do you want the long, sordid version, or do you want the short version, where I started sleeping with a guy who turned out to be my boss?”
“Neither.”
“Val, cut me some slack here.”
“No. You went to Dartmouth. Your parents— don’t get me started on that. I know you’re trying to hide who your parents are. But I know. You grew up— look at this house! You know, you walk into the OR, and there isn’t anyone who doubts that yo should be there. I… I grew up in a trailer park. I went to state school. I put myself through med school by posing in my underwear. You know, I walk into the OR, and everyone hopes I'm the nurse. Y-you have their respect without even trying, and you're throwing it away for...what? A few good surgeries?”
“No. It's not about the surgeries. It's not about getting ahead.”
“Then what? A little hot sex? You're willing to ruin your credibility over that? I mean, Y/N, what the hell are you doing?” You huffed, shaking your head. “Oh, my… you’re falling for him.”
“I am not.”
“Oh, you so are.”
“No, I’m not.”
“You so are. Damn it, you poor girl.”
“You know, it's just that he's just so… And I'm just… I'm having a hard time.”
"Wow, you're all, uh, mushy and… warm and full of secret feelings.” Val handed you a piece of cake.
“I hate you!” You snatched the cake from her. “And your cake.”
“My cake is good. So, um, how hot is the sex?”
“Val.”
“What? Come on, my girlfriend broke up with me, I’m not getting any. Help a girl out with a few details.”
~~~
Steve showed up at your door an hour later, exhausted as well. You two headed up to your bedroom. You were both on either side of the bed, pulling back the covers.
“You know,” Steve slurred, “we could just…”
“Sleep?” You finished.
“We could, yeah, if… if you want to.”
“Yeah?”
You both crawled into bed. You turned off the lamp beside you before cuddling into Steve’s side. He reached over and turned off the lamp at his side.
“I could get used to this,” you whispered, falling asleep.
Moonlight- Adam Sackler x Reader
Chapter 2: Mystery Boy
Word Count: 4750
Warnings: Insecurities, fluff
Author's Note: I actually loved writing Shosh and I can't wait to add her more. Besides that this is one of my favorites.
Read Chapter 1
------------------------------
Walking to school or work was the highlight of your day. Adam was always there to accompany you on your way there.
At 7 am, he was always outside of the apartment complex expecting you. Adam didn’t care if last night he only got five hours of sleep. He would say to himself that he wanted you to get safe to your location. But deep down, he knew that he got addicted to having your presence next to him.
For years, you had gotten used to walking alone to every place you needed to go to. Meeting Adam, it changed. You’ve gotten used to him being outside waiting for you with your favorite drink. Occasionally, he would bring you breakfast so you could eat on your way there. On the days that you had an exam, he would take out a crumpled piece of paper full of questions to ask you about the subject. He wanted you to be ready for your exam. He cared about your education. Now that he was in your life, he didn’t want to become a distraction.
Within a couple of weeks, you both have known each other. There still hasn’t been the first kiss. You would get on your toes and kiss Adam’s cheek. Meanwhile, he would kiss your forehead. That would be the closest thing that you would get to a kiss.
The two of you agreed to take it slow, even though you both were craving more.
Amelia was the only friend that knew about Adam. She thinks that he is a weirdo, but she was glad that you were finally moving on from Oscar. You were unsure if you wanted to tell your other friends about him, not because you wanted to keep Adam a secret but incase if things didn’t go well. None of your friends would bring him up.
Getting into a new relationship was always scary. Learning how to trust someone new with your heart and your deepest thoughts was a difficult thing to do. You want Adam to know you, to know about the nightmares you have in your sleep, to what you like on your toast.
You were in class while these thoughts were running through your mind. You were spaced out, holding your pen against your paper. “Sunday by 11:59 pm. The Case Study will be due, and no late papers will be accepted” your professor raised his voice. You quickly made a note on the corner of your paper as a reminder.
When classes ended, you thought to yourself, ‘Hmmm, I wonder what snack he’ll bring me today and what shirt he’ll be wearing.’ You received a message from Adam as if you were manifesting him to talk to you soon.
2:38 PM Hey Kid, I’m going to pick you up a little late. The place that I usually get our coffee is hella packed.
2:40 PM I’ll be there soon, hopefully
Receiving that message took you by surprise because he was never late to pick you up. You did appreciate that he told you that he was going to be late.
2:41 PM Hello Goof, that’s okay, just get here safe.
2:42 PM Those muffins better be out of the oven if it’s taking this long.
You loved teasing him, and he loved teasing you. It could be small things such as tickling you and you tickling back to picking you up and spinning you around. The small things brought you two both to laughter and a smile.
Waiting for him, you decided that you wanted to catch up on some of your readings.
On the corner of your eye, you could see Adam holding two cups and a paper bag. “Sorry for being late. Usually, it’s never that packed” He hands you the cup and the paper bag “you requested a muffin, so there is a muffin for the captain” he points to the bag as you were opening it.
You were grateful that he would bring you food whenever he would pick you up from any place. Adam grabs your backpack and puts it over his shoulder. He offers you his hand as you tried to get up. Before he could pull you up, you made sure you had a tight grip on your coffee and muffin.
You both walked around the city for a while as you were finishing your coffee and muffin.
Café Grumpy was around the corner. You grab Adam’s arm, shaking it lightly, and pointing towards the safe “we should go there. It’s one of my favorite places” there was excitement in your voice.
Adam notices where you were pointing, he never told you no, but this time he was hesitant. He didn’t want to go there due to bumping into someone he knew. He had a concerned look on his face. “Are you sure you want to go there? I heard that their coffee is not that great.”
Noticing Adam’s concerned look on his face, you tilt your head. You wanted to know why he was confused. “I’ve been there many times with Amelia. It’s our go-to place to grab a coffee.”
There was a moment of silence as you were trying to read his facial and body language. “Please, Adam, can we go? Just this one time,” you had a pouty face. You knew making that face was Adam’s weakness, so you didn’t do it as often. You grab his hand and look at him straight in the eye “please.” Looking into his eyes, you had puppy dog eyes.
Adam always wanted to please you and get you whatever you wanted. He didn’t like the idea of going, but your happiness mattered to him. He rolls his eyes and gives a small grunt. “Fine. We can go.”
Grabbing his hand, you turned around in excitement and started running towards the shop. You were excited to introduce him to your favorite place in town.
He opened the door for you, and you walked inside. The smell of coffee and fresh cookies surrounded you. It felt like home. Now that Adam was with you, it felt perfect.
Ray was preparing coffee and was facing his back towards you, so he wouldn’t have known if you had gotten there. You got near the cashiers, still holding Adam’s hand. “Hello Ray, there’s someone I want you to meet.” You turn around to see Adam.
The last time that Adam saw Ray was when he had to return that dog and ended up cursing him out.
Ray turns around he makes eye contact with Adam. He ignored him, and his eye went straight to you. “Hey, it’s been a while since I’ve seen you. Where have you been?” He looks back at Adam, hoping that he wasn’t the guy you wanted to introduce him to. “Where is that person you wanted me to meet?”. Ray looks around to see if there was anyone else.
You tilt your head in confusion because you wanted to introduce Ray to Adam. You look back and forth to Adam and Ray. “It has been a minute. I’ve just been busy” You grab Adam’s hand and pull him towards the front, so he can be next to you instead of behind you. “This is Adam, and I wanted to introduce you to him” you had a small smile on your face, but your eyes lit up.
You felt happy that you finally dared to introduce Adam to one of your friends.
Ray had a concerned look on his face as his eye switched from you to Adam, back and forth after he got done staring at both of you. “What do you want to order, Adam? And the usual for you, right?” You nodded.
You both went to sit down meanwhile the drinks to get ready. As you both went to sit down, Amelia walked in.
Ray notices that Amelia walked in and walks in her direction as fast as he could. HE grabs her wrist and takes her to his office. As he closed the door, Amelia panicked, “Ray, what are you doing?” She had her arms crossed and wanted to scream, but she didn’t do it. She trusted Ray.
Ray walks back and forth. He covers his mouth as he is in a shocking state of mind. “Amelia, is she seriously talking to Adam?” He continues to walk back and forth. He didn’t know what type of emotions he was feeling, but one of them was that he was concerned.
Amelia was confused, trying to catch up with what Ray was asking. “Yes, she is” She started to make conclusions in her head as she watched ray pace around the office. “Wait- do you like her?” Amelia wasn’t sure if she wanted to ask that. She didn’t want to be right either.
He stops pacing and looks at Amelia with a serious face. “No, Amelia, I don’t like her. I have a girlfriend” there is a small pause in between. “I’m just- not sure if Adam is the right fit for her” He relaxes and sits on top of the desk.
This conversation continues between Amelia and Ray.
Meanwhile, you and Adam noticed that Amelia and Ray were arguing in his office. It was not that loud, but you could still hear it. This was the first time that you heard Ray and Amelia argue. You wanted to go in and see what was going on. But it was already weird enough with the interaction between you, Adam, and Ray.
You waited for Amelia and Ray to get out. You wanted to ask her what was going on between them. But in case it was about you and Adam, you wanted to wait until you got home.
Amelia approaches where you and Adam were sitting. “So guess what happened at work today” She sits down across from you and him. Amelia noticed that you both were holding hands. “Hello Adam, long time no see” she has a fake smile on her face.
Time passes by as Amelia rants about what happened at work, and Adam was trying to listen to the conversation but couldn’t. He grabs your hand and puts your palm facing up. He starts tracing the lines on your palms with his fingers.
You were trying to pay attention to what Amelia was saying, but your focus was on how gentle Adam was being by tracing his fingers on your palm.
Before you could say anything, you could hear Ray yell for us to get our order in the background. Adam quickly got up and went to get the coffee.
Once Adam left, you stared at him leave. There were sparkles in your eyes. Amelia grabs your hand “hey, googly eyes, are you serious about him?” You ignore her comment. She snaps her fingers “hey, pay attention to me. Do you like him?” You stared at her before you gave her a nod.
Adam got thee coffee tray. Once he turned around, Ray was trying to catch his attention. “Adam, if you are serious about her, please don’t fuck it up. She’s too precious and innocent” Ray was referring to you. Even though he only saw you as a friend, to him, you were like a little sister and wanted to protect you as much as he could.
He turns around to face Ray. “Don’t you think I don’t know that” he turns his head, so he has a clear view of you. “She has made me so happy these couple of weeks” He had a smirk on his face as he told Ray how he felt about you.
Ray didn’t know his intentions, but he could tell that Adam was genuine about how he felt. “Be careful. She’s been through a lot” a small sigh escaped his mouth.
Adam and Ray continue to talk. They didn’t only talk about you, but they wanted to catch up with one another. Adam wanted to know how things were between him and Shoshannah.
On the other hand, while Adam and Ray were catching up, Amelia wouldn’t stop bugging you about Adam. She had the main question if you were serious about him and not just a game you were playing. You got tired of the conversation and started to space out, “Amelia, Can we talk about it once we get home? Please” You didn’t mean to cut her off, but it was an off day for you already.
You didn’t care if the people around you heard you talk about the feelings your felt towards Adam. But you wanted to tell Amelia in private. You felt like things were getting serious with him. You wanted to sit down with her and pour your feelings into her.
Even though for the past half an hour, things were weird between you, Adam, Amelia, and Ray. That didn’t stop you four from having a great time with one another. You all shared a laugh.
An hour passes by. You were already halfway done drinking your coffee when you notice that one of your friends from undergrad walks in.
You got up as fast as you could to go and hug her. It’s been a while since you have seen her. Seeing her for a long time made your day. “Oh my goodness, Shosh. It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other” there was joy in your voice. You hug her for a little while longer before you let her go.
Shoshannah walked into the café, wanting to visit Ray. When she saw you, she was so excited to see you. You were there for her freshman year at NYU. You both developed a strong friendship when you were attending there. You were in your junior year of college when you met her. But you two had a great friendship that no matter how long you both haven’t talked, you both acted like there wasn’t time separating you two.
Shosh hugs you back tightly. Once you both let go, she looks up and down at what you were wearing. “Girl, that outfit you are wearing to totally fetch” she snaps her fingers as approval to what you were wearing.
You spin around to show her your full outfit. She gasps in surprise “you look so hot in that outfit” she had a small little smile on her face as she winked at you.
Ray notices that Shoshannah was there and goes around the café stand. “Hey Shosh, here is your drink and your food” Ray hands her those items.
Shoshannah was grateful that Ray gave her something to eat and to drink.
You noticed how they interacted and started pointing Suttle and looking back and forth as you knew something might be happening between them.
Before you could ask them if they were together, Ray and Shoshannah both nod their head together as they knew you were going to ask them that.
You squeaked very quietly in excitement. You were so happy that your two friends that you held dear to your heart were a couple. You grabbed both hands and started to jump in excitement.
They both smiled as they were happy that you approved of them being together. Ray leaned over to kiss Shoshannah on the cheek before he had to go back to work.
Your focus was now on Shoshannah. You wanted to know everything from the moment they met till the moment they started to date. “Shosh, you have to tell me everything.” You had a bright smile on your face. You were truly happy for them.
Before Shoshannah could give you an answer, her phone rang. She had a concerned look on her face “oh my god, I wish I could tell you everything right now, but I have to go” she looks around the room and notices that Adam was there. She waves at him, and He waves back at her.
You notice who she was waving at, and it was him. “wait, Shosh, you know Adam?” your emotions were going off the roof. You were confused, and you had anxiety. ‘What if they dated and I didn’t know about that. If they did date, would I be considered a bad friend?’ Your thoughts were going wild, and your anxiety through the roof.
Shosh notices that and places a hand on your shoulder “yes, I do know him, and before you ask, no, I did not date him ew.” She showed a disgusted look on her face when she mentioned that. “He did date one of my friend, Hannah, but they ended it like months ago” She was always the one to give you more details than it was needed. She scanned your face on why you looked nervous, then she concluded, “wait, are you dating him? If you are, just a little F-Y-I he can sometimes be an asshole” she puts her hand near her mouth, trying to cover what she was trying to say towards the direction that Adam was sitting at.
If your day couldn’t get any weirder, you thought that seeing Shoshannah would make it less weird. Instead, she comes in here and tells you these random things that you didn’t need to know about Adam. “hey, we should catch up, I don’t want to keep you here any longer” you take out a crumpled piece of paper you had and a pen to write down your number.
After you hand her your number, you hug her goodbye. Once she was out of sight from the café, she texts your number. She wanted you to have her number saved as well.
You walk back to where Adam and Amelia were sitting, with the most confused look on your face. You were trying to process everything that has happened today.
------------------------------------------
An hour later pass by, you were ready to go home. Adam notices that you were getting tired of being there since you were resting your head on his shoulder. He tilts his head towards the door, telling Amelia that we should leave.
As usual, he carries your bags on the way home, and this time he was holding your hand. He rarely holds your hand, but this time he wanted to make sure that you didn’t fall behind and that you caught up with him and Amelia.
Once you both got near the apartment building, You all stood there at the entrance. Amelia notices that he was holding your hand “okay, lovebirds, I’m going to head in so you both can say goodbye” she points towards the door. She looks like she had an idea. Her face lit up at the thought she had. “Adam, you should come in and have dinner with us. Ms. supermodel here makes some bomb as food.” She smirks as she said that.
You could feel the heat of your cheeks risen. Your cheeks were a rosy color as you listened to Amelia mention that Adam could come in and have dinner with both of you. You were nervous about him going into your apartment, but you didn’t show it. You look at both in confidence. “Amelia, that is a great idea. He should come over and eat” you wanted to take control of the situation.
Amelia gives you the looks as if you were sure that you wanted him to go in. You gave her a small nod, it was like you read her mind, and you know what she was going to ask. Amelia points towards the doors “so I’m going to take a quick bath, but in the meantime, you two can go and walk around” Amelia didn’t let you nor Adam respond. She rapidly went inside.
You knew what she was doing. She wanted you to spend more time with Adam alone. In case if you were unsure about bringing him inside. Deep down, you knew it was already time for him to go inside the apartment.
Even though this was the first time Adam held your hand, you wanted to do it more. You grab both of his hands and start swinging them around gently. You look down to see how tiny your hands looked holding his.
Meanwhile, you were swinging his hands. He was thinking about places that he can take you. He looks back at you, noticing that the way your hands looked holding his. He lets go of one of your hands to place it on the back of your head to bring you in close to give you a forehead kiss.
He keeps his lips pressed on your forehead for a couple of seconds. Once he let go of you. He lets go of your other hand and places both hands on your face. He looks at your face admiring your beauty. His head was running wild of thoughts. "Princess," there was a small pause. He wanted to say the right words and didn't want to fuck it up. "You are so beautiful, and I'm happy that you are part of my life now" he was looking at every inch of your face.
He wanted to see every little imperfection you had, even though to him, you were the perfect girl he has ever encountered. He takes a big gulp before he says anything else. "I know it has been a couple of weeks that we have known each other, but I don't want to lose you" he shakes his head slightly, trying to hold in together.
Calling you, Princess, made your heart flutter and your stomach fill with butterflies. You didn't mind him calling you Kid or Captain all the time; you have gotten used to that. This was the first time he called you something else. You were unsure how to respond to what he said. You were happy and wanted to tell him how you felt. You place your hand on his cheek, you slowly moved your thumb, feeling how soft his face was.
You got on your toes, closing the space between you and him. Lips inches away from each other. You place your hand on his chest. You both search each other's faces for any sign of not wanting what was about to happen. You gave him a small nod with a smile on your face. Without hesitation, you grab his shirt and pull him in closer to you.
This was your first kiss with him. Your lips were pressed against his as if you have been craving this for a long time.
He pulls away for a moment and smiles, then slams his lips back down on top of yours. Placing your bag on the ground making sure he does not drop it. This time it was different. He wraps his arms around you to pull you in closer to him, not leaving any room between the two of you. As his lips were on top of yours, he parts them to deepen them. It felt like someone has lit a match between the two of you.
You made a small noise of pleasure as you continue to kiss him. You were practically melting in his arms. You let go of his shirt and move your hand from his face to wrapping your arms around his neck.
You both separate from each other's lips, just staring at one another with the biggest smile. It finally happened, the one thing you both craved from each other. You let out a small giggle because you hadn't noticed that Adam was bent down slightly, so he was able to kiss you.
You grab his hand and walk towards the apartment. Your apartment was on the third floor. Every step that you took, it felt like you were floating on cloud nine. Every time you looked back at Adam, you saw the same dorkish smile from the first day you met him.
Opening the door of your apartment, you felt your heart was racing. You were unsure how Adam would react to it. You look around the apartment to see if there was a mess, but there wasn't. It looked clean. Your first thought was Amelia got in here, and she started cleaning. Wow, that was a first. You did appreciate that she did that for you. Amelia's door was closed. As you were holding his hand, you give him a small tour of the place.
Adam pays well attention to every detail in the apartment. He notices that on the wall a painting with your name on the corner. He gets closer to it to see the details. It was a landscape painting, with a beautiful sunset in the background with mountains and trees surrounding it. In the sunset, there were stars.
In your eyes, that painting wasn't that great compared to what Amelia has hanging around. Adam didn't care about the other pieces of artwork. He only cared about the one that you did.
You walk in the direction that he was standing. You had a slight frown. "It's not the best, but it's something that I'm proud of doing" you start pointing at places on the canvas "this part I accidentally spilled coffee on and tried covering up," you let out a small chuckle.
Adam laughed when you mentioned the coffee part of the painting, "I think that is my favorite part of the painting, Captain" he points to the spot you were pointing to. He looked at every detail as he was in an art exhibit. Those were the strokes that you probably did at 3 am one day—trying to do them, not trying to mess up carefully. /but as careful you were being, you ended up spilling your coffee over it, but you were able to fix it.
You left Adam to continue admiring your artwork when you head to the kitchen to start cooking for dinner finally. You look around inside the fridge of what you can make, and you decided you wanted to make a meatloaf with mashed potatoes. As you were gathering the items, you noticed that one of the things you needed was on the top shelf. 'Great,' you thought to yourself.
You were trying to find the looking stepping stool you have around just if you needed it. The stool was not where it usually was. You took a big breathe and looked annoyed. The next thing you knew, you had to do was get a chair so that you can reach an item on the top shelf.
Adam was already sitting on the couch, looking at his surroundings, searching if there were other paintings that you have made. Other than that paintings, there were photos of pictures that you have taken.
There was a sound in the background as you tried to move the chair from one place to another. Adam looks back to see what was going on. When he catches you on the chair, gets the items you need, and places them on the counter, he gets up and walks towards you.
He stares at you with his left eyebrow rose. On one of the top shelves, he notices a box of cereal, and he grabs it. Without breaking eye contact, he winks at you and gets near you, and whispers into your ear, "shorty," he turns around and chuckles a little.
You were slightly annoyed by him making fun of your height. You murmured to yourself, "well, at least I can be unseen in the crowds, you long boy McKee." Even though he heard your comment, he decided to ignore it as he chuckled to himself.
------------------------------
You finished eating dinner with Amelia and Adam. You all shared chuckles and shared stories about one another. It was a good time. It was already night by then. Amelia wanted to go to bed. Meanwhile, Adam wanted to stay a little bit longer.
You invited him to your bedroom because you wanted to spend more time with him. Even though you had a king-size bed, his feet still tangled. You had so many pillows that surrounded you and him.
He was against the headboard in a sitting position, trying to attend to what he was watching.
You put your book down and stopped doing your homework. You went to lay right next to Adam. You placed your head on his shoulder and hugged him.
For the past couple of months, all you've known is grief and pain. Having your head on his shoulder and your arms wrapped around his bicep, you finally felt at peace.
your nephew’s friends were going to the park to play volleyball and he wouldn’t stop begging you to take him
both of his parents were at work, forcing you to keep an eye on the little booger
all you wanted to do was stay home and watch terrible reality shows
but you decided to be nice and grant him his wish
besides, it would be nice to leave the house every once and awhile lol
when you got to the park you saw your nephew’s friends playing volleyball with a guy who was definitely not their age
“do you know that guy?” you ask the young one standing next to you, hoping that the older boy in the distance wasn’t some creep that was preying on children
“yeah, that’s _____’s uncle. he’s really good at volleyball so he likes to come and show off”
what kind of grown ass man would want to show off his skills to a bunch of 9 year olds lmao
you didn’t question it any further and took a seat on a nearby bench while your nephew ran to his friends
after about two minutes of scrolling through your phone, your nephew returns
“tooru wants you to come play volleyball with us”
“did you tell him that i don’t know anything about volleyball?”
“yup. come on, let’s go”
deadass pulls your phone out of your hand, grabs your arm, and drags you over to the group
he was freakishly strong for his age
“hi! i’m tooru, what’s your name?”
“uh, i’m y/n”
“cool! do you want to play volleyball with us?”
“do i have a choice?”
“nope!”
he quickly goes over the gist of the game and shows you how to position your arms for a receive and how to spike the ball
honestly most of it went through one ear and out the other, but you nodded as if you understood everything he was saying
you finally started the mock match, you and tooru on opposing sides
first play into the game, tooru serves it (at like 30% power from his usual serves) and it’s coming straight for you
instead of taking a step backwards so you can receive it, you just stare at it until it hits you dead in the face hAAA
all of the kids started laughing while tooru stood there in shock
who would’ve known this would be the start to an amazing friendship
we all know, math is FREAKING HARD
and the fact that you had to learn about imaginary numbers irked the hell out of you
they don’t even exist, WHY DO I NEED TO KNOW THIS
but that’s just the way the cookie crumbles and there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it
your teacher could see you visibly struggling with this lesson, even seeing that you nearly failed one of your quizzes
she pulled you to the side after class one day and told it to you straight
“if you don’t get a B on this next test, you’re going to have to retake this class”
“y-you expect me to get a B?!!!?!?!?!?”
yeah the rest of the day you were depressed lol
how in the world were you supposed to magically understand all of the material within the next week?
that’s where smartboi!kuroo comes along
he approaches you during lunch, taking the empty seat in front of you
you just kinda 👁️👄👁️
“hi so i couldn’t help but overhear your conversation with our math teacher. i can help you if you want. i don’t know if you know this, but i’m kinda good at math”
he gave you one of his infamous smirks, making you scoff
you had never talked to kuroo before, but he had a reputation around school for being arrogant and cold
“please tell me why i would want help from you?”
“because if you don’t get help then you’re probably going to fail this class and have to retake it, and we both know that’s not what you want.”
you hate that he’s right
“ugh fine”
over the course of that week you and kuroo hung out every day after school
and you found out that he’s nothing like what people say he is, he’s just a big nerd
you start to become fond of him, liking how patient he is with you and how much effort he’s putting into your tutoring sessions
by the end of the week, you’re actually able to call him a friend
and you got a B on the test :p
you were not a morning person
you were the type or person that needed to set 50 alarms in the morning just so you’d wake up for school
unfortunately, sometimes 50 alarms still isn’t enough to keep you from falling back asleep
one morning, you closed your eyes after turning off your alarm, knowing that another one will go off in 10 minutes. I’ll get up then, you tell yourself
what you didn’t know is that the alarm you turned off happened to be the last one
you wandered back to sleep and waited for the alarm that never went off
when you woke up, you checked your phone and saw that you were most definitely running late
you quite literally jumped out of bed and threw on your uniform and shoes before grabbing your backpack and running out the door
you didn’t even bother grabbing something to eat or checking the weather, two things you usually did every morning
you sprinted towards the bus stop, hoping that you didn’t just miss it and have to wait for another
but of course, as you’re approaching, you see the bus depart
and, to make matters even better, it was starting to rain
you made your way to the bus stop, standing under the small roof for shelter from the rain, staring at the bus that was slowly getting smaller
you sigh loudly while taking out your phone, finding the bus schedule only to see that the next one won’t be coming for another 20 minutes
school starts in 15, which is around the same time it would take to run there
but at this point, it wasn’t just raining, it was absolutely downpouring. but what choice did you have?
you prepared yourself to ruin into the rain, but before you could leave the shelter of the roof above you, a cold hand grabbed onto your wrist
you turned around to see sugawara, a boy who was in your third period class
he reached into his backpack and pulled out an umbrella before handing it to you
“here, use this. if you run to school in this weather, you might catch a cold”
“no, that’s okay. if i take this, then you might catch a cold. plus, it’s your umbrella, you should use it”
he laughed before grabbing your hand and placing the umbrella in it
before you could protest, he pulled his hood over his head and ran into the rain
you were dumbfounded, but decided not to waste any more time and make your way to school
you returned his umbrella to him when you saw him in class, and bought him lunch as a thank you
found out that you guys live in the same direction, and decided to walk to and from school together
now you don’t need 50 alarm clocks, knowing that suga will beat ur ass if you’re not ready to leave by the time he gets to your house lol
Tumblr media
it was the week before finals, so you were doing the same thing that most students were doing
pulling all nighters at the library and drinking way too much coffee
it was approximately 2:30 in the morning when you were approaching the last class you needed to study for
the problem was, you had left your textbook for that class at home (freaking idiot)
thankfully for you, the library had one in stock that you could borrow for free
you wandered around the building that was surprisingly empty
on most days, every seat would be filled regardless of the time, everyone wanting to cram as much knowledge into their heads before their big exams
you finally found the section you were looking for and started scouting the bookshelves for the textbook you desired
after a solid 10 minutes of grazing through hundreds of books, your eyes finally fall onto the one you’ve been looking for
the only problem was
it was on the top shelf
and you were definitely not tall enough to reach it
but were you going to ask someone to help you get the book like a normal person?
of course not
no, the only logical answer to this problem would to be to climb the bookcase and use the tips of your finger to hopefully bring the book into your grasp
so that’s what you did,,,, kinda
the book was just out of your reach, so you started to swat at it like a cat, hoping the momentum would make your reach a tad longer
and it did!
but instead of you grabbing the book, your arm decided to fling it off the shelf
and right onto the head of a pretty boy who happened to be standing right beneath you
“oh my god are you oka-” *falls off the bookcase*
you were surprisingly able to land on your feet, but you twisted your ankle in the process
“are you okay?” akaashi asked, seeing the pain flash in your eyes
“I should be asking you that, i just dropped my book on your head :(“
akaashi was definitely not planning on spending his friday night in a nurses office with some clumsy person that drops books on people’s heads
and he definitely didn’t appreciate having to be checked for a concussion when he could be using this valuable time for studying
but when he was given the all clear and your ankle was wrapped, you offered him your last onigiri as a peace offering
instantly forgets about the whole incident and becomes a happy puppy
you find out that you guys are studying for the same class so decide to combine your brains and study together
study buddies 4 life!
y/n lay in her bed as she scrolled through phone trying to entertain herself. ryujin and jisung were away visiting their families for the weekend, renjun was busy studying for exams as they neared finals week, and she didn’t want to text jeno. she stared at jaemin’s contact in her phone, she could call him and ask him to come over, but she was torn about it. every time she reached out to spend time with him, renjun’s words rang through her head. she really didn’t want to hurt him. but before she could process what was happening, her finger had already pressed the facetime button.
“oh, shit,” she said as it rang, and right as she was about to hang up, it connected.
“what’s up, y/n?” jaemin said on the other line. his hair was messy and he was wearing a pair of round glasses.
“i didn’t know you wear glasses,” y/n responded.
“i don’t,” jaemin took the glasses off and set them on his bedside table. “they’re just to look nice. am i just going to see the top half of your face or will you show me your whole face?”
y/n sat up, fixed her hair a little bit before extending her arm to show her entire face to jaemin. “happy?”
“very. so what’s up? why’d you call?”
“oh! i was just bored! ryujin and jisung are gone for the weekend, renjun is busy studying, and i don’t exactly want to hang out with jeno… i don’t know if you’d want to hang out though, i know late night impromptu hangouts aren’t really in your fake boyfriend job description.”
“hmmm, i have some exams i have to study for but i think i can spare a couple hours.” jaemin got up quickly and went to his mirror. “i’m just gonna come dressed like this, though, okay?” he flipped the camera to reveal his cozy fit: grey sweatpants and a loose fit white v neck.
“wear a sweater! you can’t catch a cold.”
he pushed his closet open, revealing a bunch of shirts, sweaters, and jackets all neatly organized by color. “which one?”
“i like that red hoodie a lot.”
“you got it. alright, see you in 30.”
“make it 15.”
“i can make it 15 but you’ll starve.”
“okay, see you in 30.”
and as promised, 30 minutes later jaemin was knocking on y/n’s door, holding take out. when she opened the door, she smiled at him before quickly reaching for the food and setting it onto the coffee table in the living room. jaemin slipped his shoes off by the door, and slumped onto the couch.
“i don’t even get a proper greeting? i just cured your boredom and fed you.”
“you’re right, you’re right.” y/n stood in front of him and quickly pulled him up off the couch and gave him a hug. he returned the hug and squeezed her tight, and — did y/n’s heart just skip a beat? no way. “can i eat now?” she asked, getting nervous. he pulled away and nodded.
“are you going to eat?” she asked, returning to the food and beginning to feast.
“i ate just before you called.”
“ah, okay. thank you for bringing food! just take out however much it was out of my purse,” she points at her purse on the table next to the couch. he nods and reaches over, but instead picks up the control to the tv to turn it on.
and they sat in comfortable silence for 15 minutes, y/n on the ground eating and jaemin on the couch behind her looking for something to watch on hulu. he couldn’t find anything that he wanted to watch, so he abandoned it until she was done eating so he could get her full undivided attention. once she was done, she cleaned up the trash and sat on the couch next to him.
“is there anything in particular you feel like seeing?” jaemin asked, handing the control to her. she took it from him, and immediately went to the horror section on netflix. “really? a horror movie?”
“why, are you scared?” she raised her eyebrows at him.
“i should be asking you that!” jaemin responded, but deep down he was a little scared. “you always talk about how you can never get all the way through a horror movie because you get too scared.”
“that’s when i’m alone… but you’re here, we could watch one together and maybe i can get through it.”
“i don’t think holding you while you try to watch a horror movie was in my fake boyfriend job description,” jaemin said, with a laugh.
“it isn’t, but it is in your real friend job description.”
“we’re friends?”
“well, yeah. i thought that was obvious.”
there’s a beat of silence.
“fine, ONE horror movie, but i’m picking it,” jaemin said, taking the control from her hand and picking a movie. he settled on the curse of la llorona, it looked the least threatening and y/n seemed excited to watch it when he read the title. halfway through the movie, though, y/n rest her head on jaemin’s shoulder and knocked out. he had to admit, he was scared of the movie but the sound of her quiet snores was enough for him to brave the rest of the movie because he didn’t want to wake her.
but once the movie was over, he still didn’t budge. her snores had stopped, but jaemin knew — or at least, thought — she was still asleep, because he took his phone out and took a few pictures of her sleeping on him. he didn’t know that she was still awake, but was too comfortable to ruin the moment. she thought maybe if she stayed like that for just a little bit longer, he would pick her up and take her to bed like her parents used to do when she fell asleep in the car as a child. but he didn’t, he sat still. and he spoke.
“my, my, y/n what am i going to do with you? i know i wasn’t supposed to, but i think i’ve really fallen for you,” jaemin whispered. “isn’t that crazy? a month ago i couldn’t even remember the fact that we went to high school together, and now i’m sitting here on your couch and all i can think about is how badly i want to kiss you.” he paused for a second. “but that’s not in my fake boyfriend job description, right? this is just to get back at jeno. and i’m sure we’ll succeed. but, man, what i wouldn’t give to just be able to kiss you once, or even hold your hand behind closed doors. when we’re in public, it’s different. it’s all a show… i think i want to be yours for real. but i have to remind myself this is just to get back at jeno.”
her heart broke a little hearing jaemin’s whispered confession, and she didn’t know what to do. should she tell him she’s been awake and heard everything? or does she pretend to just wake up and ignore it? she decided with the latter, and pretended to just wake up. jaemin held in a breath as she lifted her head from his shoulder, rubbed the sleep from her eyes, and put on her best fake groggy voice.
“how long have i been asleep?”
“i think about an hour, i’m not sure. you fell asleep about halfway through the movie.”
“was it scary?”
jaemin let out a laugh. “yeah, it was. we’ll have to rewatch it another day.”
he shifted his body to look over at her. “let’s get you to bed.” he stood up, took her into his arms, and carried her into her bed. once in her bed, she sat up with her back pressed against the headboard as jaemin walked into her bathroom.
“what are you doing? she questioned. jaemin didn’t respond, but he walked back out of the bathroom with toner, cotton pads, her moisturizer, and some lip balm. “jaemin, i’m too tired to do my whole routine right now.”
he sat on her bed, opened the toner and put some on the cotton pad. he slowly cleansed her face and moisturized it for her. after he set the moisturizer down on her bedside table, he brought the lip balm up to her lips and applied it. her heart was beating faster when jaemin’s hands were so close to her lips, and the tension proved to be too much for him too. he leaned in, and she felt his breath ghost her lips. before she could stop him, he closed the gap between the two and pressed his lips forcefully against hers. at first, she was too shocked to react and jaemin was about to pull away, but her hands found their way into his hair and kept him in place. she kissed back for just a moment, and as she was going to pull away, jaemin gently pushed her into her bed and climbed on top of her.
jaemin’s mind ran wild as he realized what he was doing, he couldn’t believe that he was in this position. her body tucked beneath his, as her hands went from being buried in his hair to feeling all over his body. jaemin pulled back for just a second to look at her, and she pulled him right back in and deepened their kiss, letting his tongue into her mouth as one of his hands squeezed her breasts. her hands trailed down his torso, slipped underneath his shirt and hoodie, and her fingernails lightly scratched at his abs.
“y/n—“ he groaned. she shushed him.
“touch me, jaemin.” she whispered.
 as much as jaemin wanted to, he knew things had already gone too far. whether she was acting out of feelings for him or just the heat of the moment was a mystery to him, but he knew he couldn’t keep going. he pulled back and sat up, the hand that was previously on her chest running through his hair. jaemin’s eyes were blown out, and y/n stared at him while she caught her breath. she didn’t know what to say.
“i’m sorry,” jaemin started. “i crossed the line, and i shouldn’t have. i’m sorry. this wasn’t supposed to happen.”
“that’s okay,” she said quietly. her eyes met his and she could tell he really felt sorry. it tore her apart inside.
“i’m sorry,” he repeated, unable to find other words to say. “this wasn’t supposed to happen, this was just pretend for you to get jeno, i wasn’t supposed to kiss you or anything...” jaemin gets up, panicked and begins to head for the door. “i should go home.”
y/n watched him walk to the door and her chest hurt as she stared at him. right as his hand reached the doorknob, he hesitated hoping she would ask him to stay.
“please stay,” she responded. “i don’t want to be alone tonight.”
jaemin turned around and nodded. she got into bed and lifted the sheets up, allowing him access, and he crawled into bed next to her but was careful not to pull her into his arms, despite how badly he wanted to. instead, he turned so his back was facing her. guilt filled both of their chests as they lay there next to each other. she scooted closer to him, loosely wrapping an arm around him and spooning him.
“goodnight, jaemin.”
“goodnight.”
jaemin didn't sleep, instead opting for laying in her bed and trying to rationalize everything that happened. the entire situation etched itself in his mind as a blur; he couldn't quite remember what happened but when he closed his eyes he could see the way she looked underneath him, and feel her lips pressed against his. he wanted to do it again, and again, and again, and for the rest of his life. he opened his eyes again, letting out a deep sigh. y/n stirred in her sleep, disturbed by the sigh he let out. "jaemin?" she said, still half asleep.
"i'm still here," he responded.
she didn't respond, and he waited a few minutes before saying anything. "y/n?" he whispered. she didn't respond, and jaemin let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. he memorized the feeling of her arm wrapped around his body, her forehead pressed against his back, and the sound of her breathing as she slept. at one point, he placed his hand atop hers and fit his fingers between hers to see what it felt like to hold her hand behind closed doors. he tried to sleep but couldn't, and lay awake in her bed for hours as she slipped deeper and deeper asleep.
he was careful not to wake her, gently peeling her arm off his body and placing it near her. he slipped out of bed and felt his stomach churn at the thought of leaving her alone, but he knew he couldn't stay any longer.
y/n woke up to the sound of her phone buzzing, text messages coming in rapidly. she didn't know what time she fell asleep, or what time jaemin left, but in the same spot where his body once lay was his red hoodie folded neatly.
Corrupting the Innocent Pt. 5 (final)- Dong Sicheng
Tumblr media
Word count: 2.2k
Genre: fluff/smut
Plot summary: In which (Y/N) decides to “help” innocent exchange student Sicheng win over his crush. Except she has ulterior motives and Sicheng is too clueless to notice.
a/n: hi loves!! I hope you enjoyed this last part and the series more generally, I honestly worked so hard on this one. I hope you’re all staying safe and don’t be shy to pop in my inbox with requests or just to chat, I’d love to talk to you guys xx
 You lay in bed for what seemed like an eternity, ignoring the pleading cries of your stomach or your body aching for movement. Is this what heartbreak felt like? Why did people go through with relationships if it always ended like this? You kept picturing scenarios of Sicheng and you, daydreaming of what could’ve been and it did nothing to improve your state. What was it that had made you care? You blinked back a tear before it sunk in that this wasn’t you, you didn’t mope around waiting for life to happen.
If you want things done right, you have to do them yourself.
That was one of the only things you had learned from your adoptive parents, that and how not to raise your own children if you ever had any. You freshened yourself up, masking your dark circles and damaged skin with some makeup.
 A friendly face was just what you needed, you thought as you looked over at Rosé and a few other friends sitting across from you at the same café Sicheng had taken you to what seemed like forever ago.
“Any luck with Jaehyun?” You directed at Rosé.
“No, turns out Johnny is more my type and we’ve got ourselves an arrangement so, it’s a win-win.” She smiled; you had noticed this new glow about her- perhaps he was as good of a fuck as you had heard? Nevertheless, you were happy for her. She looked good, happy. It was a good look on her.
You made small talk until your drinks arrived and you melted in the comfort of a warm mug of coffee, it did wonders to your soul. You felt eerily out of touch with reality, present but not really. You felt out of place, out of sorts and it was so foreign, so weird. Just as you recollected the last exchange you had with Sicheng, your eyes landed on a side profile you knew all too well. He was with his friends as well, at the other end of the café.
You were staring, and eventually, he was too. It proved suddenly quite difficult to breathe when his eyes met yours and you retreated to the bathroom to regain your composure. These feelings were all so new, so foreign that you honestly didn’t know how to handle any of them. It felt as though they were all lurking over your shoulder, a second away from crashing over you. You’d never felt like this about someone and yet you’d been doing this backward, breaking up before you were even together. One look in the mirror told you you were far from being okay, but you took a deep breath and any trace of Sicheng was long gone by the time you got back. It was for the best, you guessed.
 You chose to prioritize sleep and homework for the remainder of the semester albeit there were only a few weeks left in the term. It proved to be a difficult task as the sheer volume of your notes mocked you, you’d never get everything done in time. You almost agreed with them but giving up sleep proved successful as you handed in all papers on time and completed exams okay enough.
Occasionally, you’d bump into Sicheng in the hall, but he’d avoid your gaze and be on his way. You didn’t allow it to put a damper on your mood. Funny enough, you hadn’t felt the need to seek out someone new after him, it wouldn’t be the same and the idea didn’t ignite anything in you as it once had. Besides, your partner in crime had somewhat settled, why couldn’t you do the same?
Some of us are getting drinks to celebrate end of term, you in?
Your eyes looked over Rosé’s text over and over again, debating whether this was a good idea or not. You ended up giving in to the devil on your shoulder beckoning you to “have some fun!”. It was just a few drinks with friends, what was the harm in that?
Once you saw what you were working with, you gasped. Your skin begged for a skincare routine; one you had discarded after everything that had happened. It only took an hour and what felt like two inches of makeup to make you look, and feel, decent-looking. You went back to that section of your closet and pulled out a relatively slutty dress (if there was such a thing). Now you were ready.
 On your first drink, you bantered with your friends. You were all exhilarated to have some freedom once again, no longer chained to the boulder that was university. The second drink had you starting a game of truth or dare.
“Rosé, truth or dare?”
“Hmmm, truth.” She always went for truth.
“Is Johnny THAT big?” The curious girl licked her lips in anticipation and Rosé chuckled, as though recalling a funny anecdote.
“Oh, yes sweetie. But that D is mine.”
A few turns later, you were the one under spotlights.
“(Y/N), truth or dare?” Jennie was the one asking the question, part of Rosé’s close circle of friends.
“You know what, dare,” Jennie smirked, an agenda of her own.
“I dare you to call Sicheng, right now.”
You nearly choked on your drink.
“I’m gonna need a few more drinks first.”
“Promise?” She inquired and you reluctantly nodded, “Fine, then I dare you to down the rest of your drink.”
That you could do. You prayed Jennie would forget about her initial dare, but you were out of luck. A few shots later, here you were, dialing Sicheng’s number. You hadn’t planned what you were going to say, but you were too drunk to even care now. Besides, what did it matter?
“Hello?” A voice thick with sleep answered back. Oops, you hadn’t considered the time.
“Hiiii.”
“(Y/N), why are you calling me?”
“Because,” you pouted “I miss you. And I’m sorry.”
“You’re drunk.” Deep sigh.
“But I mean it, Sicheng. I really really like you and I know I ruined everything, but I just wanted you to know that.”
“Where are you?”
“Take care Sicheng, I’m sorry I’m such a shitty person. I wish I wasn’t. Bye.” You hung up after a few attempts, the buttons on your phone blurring before your eyes. The girls giggled and applauded your courage. Only Rosé looked back at you with a concerned look on her face.
 “Wake up.” You opened your eyes, excruciating pain in your entire body. Oh god, you had fallen asleep on the sidewalk. When had you ever gone outside to begin with? Desperately trying to piece together the how and the when, you were clueless as to whom the voice belonged to.
“Come on, I’m taking you home.” Wait, you knew that voice.
“Sicheng, what-“
He shushed you, motioning for you to hop on his back so he could carry you home. You complied; this was probably the last time you’d get to touch him, might as well make the most of it. You couldn’t believe this would be the last image he’d have of you, what a joke.
It hadn’t been hard for him to track you down, there were only a few bars the uni students visited and lucky for him, you had been at the first one he had burst into. Why he had gone looking for you in the first place, he didn’t know. Maybe it was that seeing you had reminded him of your times together and as furious as he was with you, he knew you. And he knew why you would think that sex was your only gateway to love. Maybe that was why he was now sitting your bed, braiding your hair to keep it from getting in the way in case you were a puke-until-I-pass-out kind of drunk.
 “Wait- can you stay?” You looked up at him with pleading eyes. How could he resist? You looked so desperate and sweet, for him. He opened the covers for you, and you snuggled up against him, reveling in the feeling of his warm body against yours. He laid there, unsure of what to do and ended up falling asleep too.
 You opened your eyes groggily, your head felt like it had construction workers doing their harshest work up there. You had taken one too many shots the night prior, that much you could tell. Only then did you feel warmth from the other side of the bed, and in fact, you were met with the sight of a sleeping Sicheng. You laid there in shock for as long as it took Sicheng to wake up and face your bemused visage.
“Morning.” He half-smiled. He had slept like a baby, ironically the last few months had been ridden with insomnia up until now.
“You’re still here.”
“I am.”
“Why?” Your voice gave away your shock.
“Well, you did ask me to.” He paused, sitting up. “And I figured you had punished yourself enough. What you did was horribly wrong, (Y/N), but I feel like I know you enough to understand why you felt that was the only way you could do things.” You gulped.
“And honestly, I missed you and I just want to start over.” He stretched his long limbs lazily.
“I’d love that.” You smiled from ear to ear.
“On one condition.” He pointed an accusing finger in your direction, and you tensed in your seat. “There’s still one thing you haven’t taught me yet.”
He took hold of your hand and placed it on his morning wood. Your eyes widened. Oh, that’s what he meant.
“Are you sure?”
“Don’t make me wait longer, (Y/N), I’ve wanted to fuck you ever since I laid eyes on you.” The foulness of the words spewing out of Sicheng’s mouth only aroused you further and you were quick to do something about it.
You rid him of his boxers and licked your lips at the sight of his shaft. You kissed his tip, trailed your tongue down to his base, earning a hiss from above. Once you had him thrusting up in your mouth begging for more, you decided it was enough teasing. This time.
“Sit up.” He obeyed your command.
You took off your panties and crawled back to him. He looked so handsome, exposed for you like this and with as much carnal desire as you. It was a sight you’d vow to keep engraved in your mind forever. He brought you in for a kiss, his eyes glowing with awe of your naked form. You motioned to sit on his dick but you were interrupted mid-way.
“Wait- I want to do something for you too.”
This piqued your interest and you guided his fingers along your folds and he experimentally brought them in and out, awaiting further instructions. Your moans proved to be more than enough as he maintained a steady rhythm, holding back a confident smirk.
“Fuck, (Y/N), look at you. Such a moaning mess for me.”
Oh, and he was a talker, that you could get used to. He kept this up for a little while, until:
“I don’t mean to rush anything, but can I fuck you now?”
You chuckled, even now he was such a gentleman asking for permission. You squirmed out of his touch and quickly sunk down on his dick, giving yourself a second to adjust to his size. His hands found your ass and he made it clear he wanted you to move. And you did, slowly at first until Sicheng grew tired of your pace and flipped you over so he was on top.
“Don’t be a tease.” His only justification.
You hadn’t taken him for a dom, but then again you had been wrong about a lot of things. For his first time, he was exceeding expectations. He connected your lips in another heated kiss silencing another one of your moans and kept up his relentless pace. Your hand reached down to massage your clit and you were surprised to see him take over for you, his thumb doing wonders to your bundle of nerves as he explored your body. Your soft voice bellowing requests every so often had him becoming an expert in no time. Before long, you were moaning out his name, clenching around his shaft as you chased your high. Sicheng hissed at the feeling, your walls tightening around him nearly sending him over the edge. A panicked expression took over his features.
“Where do I-“
You pointed to your stomach and he moaned again, releasing his hot load all over your naked body. You got cleaned up as he rode out his orgasm, dazed by the pleasure by the time you came back. Your fingers played with Sicheng’s hair lovingly, now cuddled up in bed.
“How did I do?” He asked, a tang of innocence still present.
“Not bad at all. I think we should do that much more.” You paused. “You know, to practice.” You teased and this earned a laugh from the boy beside you, you couldn’t help but join in. Your love story was far from normal, sure, but you were happy. And you’d like to think that Sicheng was too.
Marry Me
A/N: I decided to take a stab at doing a songfic. It is MontyxOC and I hope you guy’s like it. I based it off of Thomas Rhett’s Marry Me. This part is from the bride’s perspective. For this part, I recommend listening to the bride’s perspective linked below. There will be another part from Monty’s perspective coming soon. This is a long one. I hope you like it as much as I do. As always, much love. Word Count: 7963
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqxEYUcW-cU
My fiancé, Evan, and I finally made it to San Fran International Airport, after a long day of traveling from Atlanta. I managed to get some more wedding planning done on the plane from Dallas. My parents were throwing us a second engagement party at home, so we made the trip out early on after he popped the question. Once we had left baggage claim with our bags, I led him through the airport to pickups.
He insisted on holding the bags while I looked for Scott. My parents weren’t able to get off work, so he had kindly offered to pick us up in San Francisco. I searched the crowd and spotted him standing off to the side, near a vending machine. “Scott!” I called as I waved and broke into a run towards him. He caught me in his arms and twirled me around.
“There she is.” He muttered into my hair as he put me down. I felt Evan put his hand on my back and I leaned into him. “You must be the one who stole her heart. I’m Scott.” He said, sticking his hand out.
“Evan.” He replied, shaking his hand firmly.
“So, let’s see the ring.” I smiled brightly at him and showed him my round two carat pave ring. He whistled when he saw it. “That’s nice. It suits you. Did she pick it?”
“No, I looked at her Pinterest.”
“Smart man.” Scott said as he picked up my bag and walked us out to the car, Evan’s hand firmly in mine the whole time.
On the way back into town, Scott shared stories of all the trouble I used to get my friends in and out of in high school. “There was this one time none of us had studied for a midterm coming up and so Ellie here called us all over to her place, and sat us down with colour coded notes, charts, the whole thing and spent the whole weekend tutoring us.”
“Only because you all had to pass that exam to stay on the team.” I interjected.
“El, it’s not like they would have kicked the whole team off the team. We were all pretty antsy by the end of the weekend.”
“But they could have cancelled the rest of your season. How happy would you have been then, hmmm?”
“Fine, fine. You win. But what about that time Monty and Bryce decided to climb in that old treehouse in Bryce’s backyard and you had to call the fire department?”
“You mean the time they almost fell out a tree? Yeah, I remember that. I also remember not speaking to either of them for like three days afterwards.”
“Oh, don’t think I forgot that detail. Monty wouldn’t shut up about it until you finally talked to him again.”
“Not my fault genius one and genius two climbed into a treehouse they hadn’t been in since they were like eighty pounds lighter. Bryce cried, Scott.”
“You didn’t talk to them because they went in a treehouse?” Evan asked.
“No babe. I didn’t talk to them because they got stuck in a treehouse. And I couldn’t climb up there to save their genius butts because any more weight would have sent the whole thing tumbling to the ground. And then Coach would have had my ass for breaking them.”
“I’m guessing there was alcohol involved in these shenanigans?”
“Oh yes.” Scott laughed, “they were drunk off their asses. Monty hugged one of the firefighters.”
“Ellie mentioned something about him not being a hugger.”
“He isn’t. Took him like 4 years to hug me. And I’m his best friend. We had food poisoning together when we were younger, and he still wouldn’t do it.” I shuddered at the memory.
“Lovely.”
“Yeah, but anywho. They barely made it into the pool house before they passed out.”
“We don’t call her Mom for nothing.”
“Okay designated Dad friend.”
“At least when we hung out after homecoming we didn’t-” Scott started. My eyes widened. Are you serious Scott?!
“Trip and fall flat on our faces in front of the whole school?” I cut him off quickly.
He gave me a weird look in the rear view. Thankfully, Evan was looking out the window as we were getting closer to town. I gave him a what the fuck look back. “Uh, yeah. That was pretty funny actually. Matt and Garrison were so excited we won that they tripped over their own feet and faceplanted.”
Evan didn’t appear to be listening anymore. Scott drove the rest of the way and when we got into town, I texted Monty. Hey you. I just got into town with Evan for the weekend. Are you free tonight?
He texted me back a few minutes later, yeah I’m free. What’s up?
“Don’t worry about showing him the noteworthy spots. We are going to look around after church on Sunday.” I mentioned to Scott, not looking up from my phone. I replied to Montgomery swiftly, drinks or coffee? Just you and me. My parents are going over some details for tomorrow with Evan that they don’t want me around for.
Sure. Meet you at Monet’s at six?
I’ll save you a seat. Usual order?
You know I don’t change things Elliebear. I smiled affectionately at the nickname and put my phone away. Scott had pulled up in front of my parent’s house.
“See you tomorrow Scotty.” I told him, reaching around the driver’s seat to rub his hair.
“El, not the hair. I’ll see you. It was nice meeting you Evan.”
“You too, Scott. Have a good night.”
The door opened as soon as we set foot on the front walk and my mom poked her head out. “Hey Mom. I’ve missed you.”
“Oh, come here and let me look at you.” She cooed, pulling and prodding me to get a good look.
“Mom, relax. I haven’t changed that much since the last time I saw you.”
“Hello Mrs. Davis. How are you?” Evan asked her as he pulled me closer to him to stop her examining.
“I’m lovely dear. Robert set up the guest room for you. Ellie, you’ll be in your own room.”
“I know Mom. Wasn’t expecting anything less.”
As we walked into the living room, dad looked up from his newspaper, “hey sweetheart, Evan.” “Mr. Davis.” Evan greeted and shook his hand firmly.
“Now now, what have we told you? You will be family soon enough. It’s Robert or Dad.”
“And Jillian or Mom.” My mom added.
“I know. Habit.”
“Well Ellie-muffin, what did you want to do tonight for your first night back in town?”
“I thought you had to talk to Evan about stuff. And I understood from mom that I wasn’t supposed to be there. So, I kind of already made plans….”
“That’s right. I told you about it last week Rob. We have to go over stuff for tomorrow.”
Dad thought for a moment, trying to remember the conversation, “that’s right. Sorry Jill, I’ve been busy with work and stuff that it must have slipped my mind.”
“What are you doing tonight, beautiful?”
“Just going to get a coffee with Monty now that I’m back in town.” I told him, casually. It’s just coffee and catching up with a friend.
“That sounds like fun. Let him know I’m looking forward to meeting him tomorrow.”
“I will. I’m going to run upstairs and change. You guys have fun down here.”
“What about dinner, Ellie?”
“It’s okay mom, I’ll just grab some soup or something at Monet’s.”
At about twenty to six, I decided to head out. I chose a cute, casual ensemble. I had thrown on one of Monty’s old baseball shirts, that I stole in the ninth grade or something with some jeans and sneakers. It was comfortable and he never asked for it back, so I kept it. Sometimes I wore it to run errands or when I was running late to class in college. “Bye guys. Love you Evan.” I called from the door. My family had holed themselves up in my dad’s office to talk about the party tomorrow, and I had strict instructions not to disturb them. I heard a chorus of ‘bye’s from the house as I left.
I beat Monty to the café but that wasn’t surprising really since I had left so early.
“Hey, what can I get you this evening?”
“Can I get a-”
“She’ll get a skinny vanilla bean latte with only one pump of vanilla, a dash of cinnamon, and extra foam in a for here cup. I’ll get a regular black coffee. And she’ll also have the chicken and spinach sandwich.” I heard Monty say behind me. The barista looked at me, unsure if she should ring it in or not. I nodded at her and turned around to face him. Before he had a chance to say anything, I jumped into his arms for a hug. I did manage to salvage some dignity and not screech in his ear.
“Hey Elliebear.” He said after grunting from the impact.
“I missed you.”
“I missed you too.”
Our orders were finished quickly as it was surprisingly slow for a Friday night. Luckily, that meant our table was free. We sat down and conversation flowed easily. It was almost like we had never been apart.
“The ring is nice. It suits you. Bigger than I thought you would like but it’s nice.”
“It is nice, yeah. That reminds me, Evan said he’s looking forward to meeting you tomorrow.”
“So am I. See who finally caught your interest.”
“I was interested in other people before Evan.” I told him, scandalously.
“Ellie. That guy from drama class doesn’t count. And neither does your chemistry partner.”
“I was not interested in Adam. And Zach was my chemistry partner. I can assure you I was not into him.”
“Please, enlighten me as to these people you were interested in before Evan.”
“There was,” I paused. You. “Dylan from sophomore English was cute. Ian. Couple other guys in high school. Peter from my first year anthropology class was… very attractive, and smart.” I’ll just leave out that Peter was the professor.
“One guy aside from Evan? University of Georgia is a big school. There’s no way you only had eyes for two people.”
“I was busy. I practically lived in the library when I wasn’t in class or my dorm. What about you?”
“What about me?”
“Is there a girl I should be hearing about? Or should have heard about?”
“Nah. Nothing important or anything to write home about. I was busy.”
“Oh please Monty, you played ball at OSU. You honestly expect me to believe there was no girl in your life?”
“No, no. There were girls. Just nothing really serious.”
“Uh, huh.” I replied, sarcastically. When I reached for my cup, he reached for his, and our hands brushed. I was immediately transported back to the day of homecoming in senior year.
Flashback
“Remember students. The homecoming game is tonight at 6:30. You’ll want to be there early as our Liberty Tigers take on the Hildebrandt Mustangs if you want good seats. It’s sure to be a nail biter.” Principal Bolan’s voice boomed from the intercom during the morning announcements.
“In order for it to be a nail biter, our team would actually have to have a chance at winning.” Alex muttered to Clay and me.
“They are playing Hildebrandt. We could literally not show up and still win.” I told him, as I adjusted my bag on our walk from Alex’s locker to mine, where Zach was meeting me before chemistry.
“Maybe they got good over the summer. Didn’t Bryce spend the summer in Greece or something? Relaxing and drinking poolside?”
“I think it was somewhere in Italy, actually.”
“Either way, I don’t think he spent his summer bulking up and practicing for the season.”
“I mean, they have Monty.”
“And? What did he spend his summer doing Ellie?”
“When I wasn’t at camp, we spent the summer together. There was no poolside drinking. When I was at camp he hung out with Scott and did boy stuff. They also worked out a lot.”
“How was camp by the way?” Clay asked.
“It was good. Learned a lot from my campers. They learned a lot from me. Only one incident of blood. It was pretty good.”
We had made it to my locker, and I was arranging my books when I felt myself being pulled into someone’s arms and lifted off the ground. “Montgomery, put me down!” I laughed, feeling my whole body shake.
“Never.” He laughed, evilly.
“I have to grab my chem book. And go to chemistry.”
“I’ve got it.” Zach’s voice drifted over to me, “you carrying her to class today?”
“Nah, I thought about it but since I had to come find her this morning, I figure she can make it there on her own.”
“I was running late. My alarm didn’t go off when it was supposed to.”
“Excuses, excuses.” Monty replied, putting me down and shaking his head. I turned my attention back to my other friends.
“I’ll see you guys later? Zach and I are running late.”
“Sure. Justin said if I don’t go to the game tonight, he’d tell mom and dad about Ani. And I don’t want to deal with that.”
“Someone has to keep Clay company, so I have to go too.” Alex said, pushing clay lightly.
“Great. I’ll see you then. See you at lunch Monty.”
Lunch seemed to take forever and a half to arrive. I knew sleeping in would mess with my day. The guys were already at their usual table when I arrived and sat next to Monty, no closer than we usually did. “Ellie, think you could pray for us to not lose this game tonight?” Bryce sniggered from the end of the table. I only rolled my eyes in response.
“Hey, quit being a dick.” Monty told him. Bryce responded by chucking a grape at him.
“It’s fine Monty. Not like he hasn’t done it before.” I didn’t have to look up from my lunch to know he was sporting a displeased face. “It’s going to take a lot more than God to help you win if you don’t learn to throw better than that in the next six hours. But sure.” I made a show of getting myself ready to pray verbally, but not with intention, “Lord, please help the guys win tonight. Give them the ability to not trip over themselves when they make plays. And God, please show Bryce how to make the ball go where it’s supposed to and not hit some poor kid in the head again. Maybe, just maybe, then he will get laid tonight and we all know that’s really why he asked me to pray.”
The boys laughed hysterically around me as I smirked at Bryce.
“You need to quit hanging out with Monty, he’s rubbing off on you too much. And I was serious.”
“I know. I’ll do it for real after lunch. You can sit with me if you want.” I offered but knew he would decline.
I ran home to change after school for the game. “Mom, have you seen my baseball shirt?” I called, searching my room for Monty’s shirt.
“The last I saw it, it was on your dresser.” I dug around on my dresser for a bit until I found it.
“Thanks Mom.” I called, shrugging it on. I quickly fixed my hair and grabbed a sweater before bolting back out the door to meet Alex before the game.
I met him in the school parking lot, at about six. “Hey Lex.”
“Hey El. Clay should be here soon and we can go find a seat.”
“That’s good.” We made small talk for a few minutes before Clay pulled up in one of the Priuses. Pri-i?
“Hey guys. Ready to go watch us get our asses handed to us on the field?”
“Your brother is playing Clay. Have a little faith.”
“I guess you’re right. I can’t say he isn’t a good player. But even still. Justin and Monty can’t carry the whole team all night.”
“Scott and Charlie help. Zach is good.”
“Oh goody. Five of forty-seven players are good. That makes me feel so much prouder of them.” Alex joked as we found a decent seat in the middle of the stands at the beginning of the row.
“Well, just think, if we do win tonight, then the team will be too busy celebrating to give anyone a hard time for a few days.”
“Now that you mention celebrating Ellie, if they win are you going to go with Monty after the game?” Clay asked
“I told him I would meet him at Monet’s with the rest of them whether we win or lose.”
“Okay. Can you keep an eye on Justin? I don’t really feel like going out with the football team for the evening.”
“No problem. Is everything alright?”
“I think he’s just trying to figure out where he fits now that he’s doing better and on the team. I don’t think he thought he would get this far.”
“That’s fair. I’ll make sure he sits with us for a bit. See if I can make Monty play nice.”
“See if you can? Ellie. He would jump off a cliff if you asked him to. I don’t like him, but I know he likes you.” Alex argued. Likes me? I mean sure, as his friend. Right? I brushed off the thoughts and where they could lead and have occasionally led in the past.
“He doesn’t really like heights. But I guess you’re right. He’s my best friend.”
“Sure. Best friend.” Alex said, shaking his head. I watched him share a look with Clay.
“I’m going to go grab a water, you guys want anything?”
“No, I’m good thanks.” Clay said, his eyes scanning the crowd of arriving students, likely for Ani.
“Nah. Mom sent me with some kind of weird protein thing. It doesn’t taste half bad, so I’ll just have that.” Alex said, shaking a bottle. I nodded and ran down the bleachers to the concession.
After getting a bottle of cold water, I ran back up just before the game started. The teams had just gotten on the field and had lined up. As expected, the game was in our favour most of the first half. I waved at Monty occasionally when he was on the sidelines and he looked over at me. He smiled and waved back. During the second half Hildebrandt seemed to find their groove and the game was at least interesting. It wasn’t really much of a nail biter as Principal Bolan had promised this morning, but it wasn’t really boring either. Everyone knew that regardless of how we played, we would probably win. The game ended and the team and the crowd were excited. Matt and Garrison were so excited by the win, they tripped over their own feet and faceplanted on the sidelines. The excitement died down for a moment until they shot up and went on celebrating. As the team filtered off the field, students began leaving. “See you Monday Ellie.” Alex said as we hugged goodbye.
“See you. Have a good weekend guys. I have to go catch up with Monty.”
I spotted him waiting for me by the locker room, gym bag on his shoulder. “Good game.” I said as I walked up to him.
“Of course, it was. I was on the field.”
“Modest as ever I see.”
“Do you expect anything else at this point Elliebear?” “Not really. But I can hope, maybe one day.”
“Maybe, but not likely.”
“Oh hey, while I’m thinking about it, Clay asked me to keep an eye on Justin tonight.”
“Is everything okay?”
“I think so. Clay said something about him having issues adjusting and stuff. Do you think you can play nice with him for a while?”
“I suppose, since he is your friend, I can try and be nice for a while. But not all night. I want some Ellie time.”
“And you’ll get your Ellie time. After you make nice with Justin.”
He sighed and was about to respond when Bryce called us, “are you two going to stand there and chit chat all night or are we going to celebrate?”
“We’re coming. Give us a minute asshole.” Monty called back to him. Bryce waved him off and walked away, leaving us alone.
He turned his back to me, “hop on”, he told me as he bent down slightly. Once I was secure against his body, he began to walk us out to the parking lot. Because he wasn’t paying attention, it was the perfect time to steal his hat. Plucking it off his head, I placed it on mine. It was slightly too big, but I didn’t mind.
“That’s my hat El.”
“I know. I happen to like it though, so I’m wearing it.”
“I’m not getting it back tonight, am I?”
“Nope. It is now mine. Might even write my name in it.”
“You do that Ellie. I won’t care when I steal it back who’s name it has in it.”
“Fine. Then I’ll readjust it.” I smirked.
“You wouldn’t dare.”
“Oh, I would.”
He laughed as we arrived at our cars and he set me down. “No, you wouldn’t.” He shook his head for emphasis, calling my bluff. I pushed him lightly and rolled my eyes.
“Whatever. I’ll see you at Monet’s in a few with your precious hat.”
True to my word, I arrived at Monet’s a few minutes later, Monty’s hat placed firmly on my head. The place was packed with students celebrating the win. I went to the counter and greeted Skye, placing our usual orders and adding whatever Justin usually got. Once placed, I turned to look for a table. Luckily most students knew where Montgomery and I sat so our table was clear. Making a couple of trips, I placed the drinks on the table and pulled out my phone. I texted Justin quickly, hey Justin. I grabbed you a coffee. Feel free to sit with Monty and I when you get here. Don’t worry, he agreed to be nice. He replied with a thumbs up. The sound of a chair scraping the floor next to me startled me. “I see you told the truth. Can I have it back now?”
“No. I think it looks quite fetching on me, if I do say so myself.” I spoke regally, swiveling my head to show him from multiple angles.
“Fetching?”
“Yes. Do you disagree?”
“No, I think it looks good on you.”
“That’s what I thought.”
Monty and I chatted quietly before Justin showed up. “Hey guys.” He said, standing slightly awkwardly to the side of the table.
“Justin! You made it.” I exclaimed, smiling. Monty shot me a tone it down look. He smiled back at me as I stood and moved next to Monty. “Make room.”
“Can do sweetheart.” He charmed, patting the chair next to me. I rolled my eyes and tried to ignore the flutter in my stomach when he called me sweetheart, before sitting down.
“Thanks for the coffee Ellie.” Justin told me, taking a sip.
“No problem.” The three of us chatted idly for a while. Monty was nice to Justin and even laughed a few times at one thing or another he said.
Somewhere along the line of our conversation, our hands drifted towards each other under the table. I felt his hand wrap around mine and I felt my cheeks flame. The flutters were back, and I looked at him from the corner of my eye. He acted like he hadn’t noticed that we were holding hands. “Hey Justin, come over here and look at this.” Charlie called over to our table. He was looking at something on Garrisons’ phone. Justin waved to him and stood up, taking his coffee with him. I wonder if he noticed we are holding hands. Maybe he’s leaving us alone for a reason. Maybe….
“And then there were two.” Monty spoke, pulling me from my thoughts before they could go any further.
“Then there were two.” I echoed.
“That shirt looks good on you. It’s pretty familiar too.”
“Oh, yeah. There may be a reason for that.”
“Need to go talk to Mike?”
“Not if you don’t have a problem with it. I think he would agree it was simply borrowing, rather than stealing. No need to involve Jesus.”
“I am. So now you’ve got my shirt and my hat. Anything else you intend on taking of mine?”
“Possibly. Depends what else you’re willing to offer.” I flirted slightly, moving my hair behind my ear.
“I think there’s a thing or two I could offer you Ellie.” He flirted back, leaning in slightly. Oh my goodness. He’s going to kiss me. My thoughts immediately began flashing forward at a rapid pace. Us going for innocent coffee dates. Introducing him to dad as my boyfriend. The possibility of church on Sundays. Introducing him to Pastor Mike. Our first fight. Making up from said fight. Getting accepted to the same college. Graduation. College. A ring. Coming home and getting married in the little white church just out of town. Marriage. Kids. Sitting on our porch when we are old and grey. Before he could kiss me, Bryce called him from across the room. He stopped just short of my lips and looked over at him, “what?”
“My place, half an hour.” He called back. Monty nodded in response and turned back to me. I was smiling at him, trying to hide the fact that I was mildly hurt he stopped short of kissing me. Or that I was annoyed that my mind had gone so far once again. I chuckled and took a drink of my coffee. I looked at my watch and saw that even though it wasn’t necessarily late late, it was late enough that I could get away with leaving on account of the time.
“Shoot. Is that really the time? I have plans with my mom in the morning. I should get going.” I said, getting up and grabbing my bag.
“Oh, okay. Are we still on for waffles Sunday afternoon?”
“Yeah. Be at my place around one? I need to talk to Pastor Mike about a few things after service.”
“I’ll be there. Text me when you get home.”
“I will.” I said, trying to keep the hurried tone out of my voice. I just want to get out of here. I took my cup back to the counter and made my way to the door, trying to keep an even pace. I didn’t look back as I left the café.
End Flashback
Shaking the memory from my mind, I pried some more. “What about the blonde girl you told me about briefly?”
“Sara?”
“Yeah.”
“She was nice. Very peppy and chipper though.”
“Ah yes. Need to keep up that stoic exterior. Can’t have someone too chipper, lest people think you have a soul or something.”
“Exactly.” He laughed. He took a long sip from his cooled coffee. “Can you imagine if I brought her home?”
“Well, knowing your mother, I would probably be attending your engagement party tomorrow instead of the other way around.”
“Oh probably.”
“How is your mom doing, by the way?” “She’s doing okay. After dad died, she was pretty out of it for a few months. She’s gotten better with time though. Really started to come into her own and forge her own path.”
“I’m glad to hear it.”
“Not going to ask how I’m doing Ellie?”
“No. I know how you’re doing.”
“Oh really?”
“Montgomery. I am your best friend. Your dad was never a parent. DNA doesn’t make someone your family. You’re doing the same as you did the day you left and vowed to never speak to him again.”
He looked surprised at me. “Sometimes I forget how well you know me.”
“I know. That’s why I have to remind you all the time.”
“Yeah, yeah. How did Evan react to Scott on the way from the airport?”
“I’m not totally sure. I don’t think he realized how things worked at Liberty and exactly what you and I being friends meant. Scott told him about the treehouse.”
“Oh no. Ellie. I need to look the guy in the eye tomorrow.”
“I know you do. Don’t worry. He didn’t seem upset or anything. I think he found it amusing actually.”
“Did he tell him anything else?”
“About you?”
“Yeah.”
“No, mentioned how you guys fucked up and didn’t study for midterms and I singlehandedly kept you all on the team. And how Matt and Garrison managed to keep themselves above their feet until after homecoming senior year.”
“Of course, he did.”
“Don’t worry. Evan will like you.”
“How do you know?”
“Because I like you. And even though you think you are, you really aren’t a bad guy.” We talked for about another hour or so, just catching up, before we decided to call it a night.
“I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Three o’clock sharp.”
“Good.” I said squeezing him in a hug. When we pulled apart he looked down at me, seeming to finally notice my shirt.
“Is that my shirt?”
“Yes it is.”
“I thought I lost that years ago.”
“You never asked for it back. We agreed that I technically borrowed it, remember?”
“Yeah but I also thought you would have given it back by now.”
“I mean, I can give it back to you tomorrow if you want it.” I offered.
“No, no. You keep it. You seem comfortable in it.” I smiled at him in response before he hugged me again and we said goodbye.
The next morning was somewhat hectic in the Davis household. My mom was up at a time God himself would shake his head at, doing last minute cleaning. My dad was up shortly after, making sure the yard hadn’t disappeared overnight or something. I woke up around ten and before I could even get a sip of coffee in me, I was already being bombarded with questions about what I was wearing or how I was doing my hair by my mom. Jeez Louise, if the engagement party is like this, what will the wedding day be like? “I have a white dress with flowers I was going to wear. It’s strapless and cute. Dressy enough for a party.”
“Strapless?”
“Yes Mom. It is strapless. I brought a cardigan to wear with it before you have a coronary.”
“Well I suppose that is alright then. And your hair?”
“A simple curled high ponytail. I have an elastic with a bow on it to use. I have thought about this you know.”
“I know dear. It’s just all so exciting, isn’t it? My only daughter is getting married.”
“Very exciting, yes.” I grumbled. “Now will you please let me go get a cup of coffee?”
“Can’t that wait darling? We have so much to do.”
“She will be much more of a help after a coffee Jillian.” Evan spoke from the hall upstairs. “Give her a few minutes to wake up and she will be ready to go, won’t you El?”
“Yes, I will.” I replied, moving towards the kitchen in search of the rich black liquid. Evan came down and grabbed the milk from the fridge to steam for my latte. “Thank you, I appreciate that you did that.” I whispered to him, gratefully.
“Of course, Buttercup.” He muttered into the top of my head and measuring out the perfect amount of milk into the pitcher, before half emptying a packet of Splenda into my mug. I set to work grinding and packing the espresso powder. I enjoyed my latte over my Bible while Evan got ready for the day’s events.
Shortly after I had gotten dressed, the caterers arrived, and it became even more hectic. They were finishing various dishes and trying to make room in the fridge. I watched on from the sidelines and tried to stay out of the way as much as possible. Evan came over to me and placed his arm around my waist. “You look beautiful.”
“You look great too, handsome.” I blushed, placing my arm around his waist too. Finally, around 2:30, the caterers had finished all of the food and set up. Cupcakes had been delivered and were set out on cake stands. Balloons were up and fairy lights lined the crown moulding around the living room. The room looked perfect.
Guests began arriving just before three. Justin and his girlfriend Sasha were the first to arrive. Justin and Jessica had broken up halfway through their first year of college, the strain of long distance becoming too much for them. They were still amicable in social situations though.
“Hey Justin. Hello Sasha. How are you guys?” I greeted them, warmly.
“We are good.” Justin replied, his hand firmly placed in hers.
“Hey guys.” Evan greeted them. The pair waved in acknowledgement.
“Let’s see the ring Ellie.” Sasha gushed. I held out my hand while she examined and fawned over the ring. I caught Evan and Justin share a look. Oh boy. This could get interesting for the man.
We continued greeting guests, accepting congratulations and gifts, and smiling as they arrived. Monty showed up right at three, as promised. “Hey you.” I greeted, beaming at him.
“Hey Elliebear.” He said, pulling me into a quick hug. Evan stood to the side, giving us a moment. I pulled away and turned towards Evan.
“Evan, this is Monty. Monty, this is Evan.” I motioned. They shook hands.
“So, you found the way to Ellie’s heart, huh?”
“Yeah. She is something special. I thank God every day that she decided to give me a chance.”
“Don’t I know it?” Monty replied, almost whistfully.
My mom called me over and I decided it would be a good idea to perhaps not leave the boys alone together. “Coming Mom. Scott is over there by the cupcakes.” I said, pointing him out. “Try to keep him from eating himself to a sugar high?”
Monty laughed, “can do Ellie. It was nice meeting you Evan. Congratulations.”
“You too Monty. Enjoy the party.”
I watched as he walked over and greeted Scott, taking a glass of champagne and a cupcake for himself. My mom called me over again and I ran over to see what she wanted. The party went off without a hitch. The only thing that concerned me was the way my eyes sought out Montgomery all afternoon and not my fiancé. Not to mention the all too familiar fluttering in my belly whenever I was near him or made eye contact with him.
**
The day had finally arrived. After a year of meticulous planning, it was finally my wedding day. All of the stress and details and late-night crying had all led up to this one day. The church was beginning to fill with guests. The loving memory sign was placed near the altar. I thought of how my granddad would have been the one to preach the service if he was still with us when I decided on the placement. My bridesmaids had already left the room to line up to walk down the aisle. Evan would be at the altar by now. I stared at my reflection in the mirror. I couldn’t shake the feeling of fear that was becoming harder and harder to ignore.
My off-white wedding dress was on, my veil in place on my head, and my makeup and hair looked flawless. Everything was perfect. Almost everything. I shook in the bridal room, waiting for the planner to call for me. You can do this Ellie. I fiddled with my engagement ring for a moment before I heard Melissa knock on the door, “we are ready for you Ellie.” Forcing a big smile on my face, I nodded to her and walked out of the room where my dad was waiting to walk me down the aisle.
“You look beautiful sweetheart.” He told me as I handed him my engagement ring for safe keeping and took his arm. The chapel doors opened, and Evan turned to look at me from the altar. I could tell his eyes were wet with unshed tears and when he saw me, he covered his mouth and looked up, trying to hold the tears back. The crowd was standing watching our reactions. My bridesmaids smiles beamed from the altar, brightly. I trained my eyes on him as my dad walked me down the aisle. My dad gave me to Evan and Pastor Mike began the service.
“We are gathered here today, before God and those closest to Ellie and Evan to join them in in celebrating their love and commitment to one another.” He continued speaking, “when Ellie called me to announce her engagement, I was thrilled for her. By the time they got around to coming back to Evergreen County from their home in Atlanta, and they asked me to officiate, I knew my answer would be a resounding yes. Getting to know Evan and see these two together over the last number of months, has opened my eyes to how these two help each other in their journey to seek to know and have a relationship with the Lord. Ellie mentioned early on in planning to me, that her favourite verse in the Bible is 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 and expressed the importance of including it on this special day. I would like to read you that verse now.  4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
8 Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages[a] and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!”
Pastor Mike continued speaking, but my eyes had begun to scan the crowd. They swept from one side of the church to the other. Near the back on the right side, next to the door, I spotted some of my friends. I saw Scott and Justin, along with Sasha, sitting with Charlie and Zach. Bryce surprised me and RSVP’d yes, even if part of me knew he knew I only invited him out of politeness. He was sitting next to Charlie, sandwiched next to Clay and Alex. As my eyes continued to scan the room, I didn’t see him. When they landed on Scott and I maintained eye contact for a moment, he shrugged, and frowned slightly. He isn’t here. He didn’t come. Tears filled my eyes and I turned back to Evan, my hand still resting in his. I made sure to smile so it appeared that I was merely overwhelmed with joy and not feeling my heart be crushed with despair. “Evan Andrew Taylor, do you take Ellie Marie Davis to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part, according to God's holy ordinance?”
“I do.” Evan replied, wholeheartedly.
“And do you Ellie Marie Davis, take Evan Andrew Taylor to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part, according to God's holy ordinance?”
I took on last look at the crowd gathered around us and made eye contact with Scott before turning back to Evan, “I can’t. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” I spoke quietly, letting go of his hand. I looked back at Scott and nodded to him. He turned to Justin and Zach, as the crowd gasped. I stepped down from the altar and it seemed to kick my friend’s butts into gear.
“Shi-” Scott started before realizing he was in a church. “Shoot.” He amended, quickly. He stood up and met me at the end of the aisle as my friends joined me in running out of the church. To our surprise, Bryce tossed Scott his keys and Zach picked me up to carry me to the car. “Zach drives.” He said, giving me a thumbs up.
We were in Bryce’s car before Scott spoke again, “did that really just happen?”
“Yeah. Yeah it did.” I was still in shock.
“Why?” Justin asked as we drove away from the church.
“He wasn’t there.” I said simply, staring out the window. “I couldn’t marry Evan knowing that I was in love with someone else. I couldn’t stand up there and say I do to him when I was praying for someone to stand up and object. Or to be up there with me instead.”
The boys were silent for a while as we drove around. Scott was in the front, looking for Montgomery’s car in every lot we passed. Justin was holding my hand tightly, trying his best to soothe me.
“You should know that he was. There.” Zach advised, “he wanted to be, but he couldn’t mess things up for you and he couldn’t sit and watch you get married to someone that wasn’t him.”
I didn’t respond, I merely tried to absorb the information I was being given. He was there. Why didn’t he come and tell me anything? Why didn’t he mess things up? I was pulled from my thoughts when my phone vibrated, alerting me I had a text. It was from Bryce. Monet’s. Your table. I never thought I would see the day where I would honestly thank Bryce Walker and mean it once, let alone twice. “He’s at Monet’s.”
“How do you know?” Zach asked, glancing in the rear view to make a lane change and turn us around.
“Surprisingly, Bryce.” I watched as my friend’s brows all raised. They couldn’t believe it either.
I was silent as Zach drove the rest of the way and parked across the street from the coffee shop. I scanned the building quickly, searching for any sign of him. I spotted him in the window, at our table, just like Bryce had said. Monet’s had become licensed a couple of years back, so they could serve alcohol. Monty was sitting alone, in his black suit, nursing what appeared to be a tall bourbon, neat.  “Go get him El.” Scott encouraged me. I nodded and checked for traffic before opening the door and stepping out of the car. Damning laws at this point, since the street was clear, I half ran across and yanked open the door. The few patrons and baristas looked up and appeared slightly annoyed at the sudden, rude intrusion, before they took note of my attire. White dress, veil, hair and makeup applied. It became clear that I was here on a mission and it wasn’t only coffee or a quick shot of liquid courage. Picking up my dress slightly so I didn’t trip on the stairs, I walked over to his table. “Is this seat taken?” I asked, softly.
He looked up at me, his eyes widening in surprise and full of unspoken questions.
“I couldn’t do it if you weren’t there. You’re my best friend Monty.”
He scoffed quietly before replying, “it’s not taken, no. Sit if you want,” and taking another drink from his glass, not looking at me.
“Hey,” I started, reaching for his hand. He looked at my hand and after a pause let me take it, “I mean it. I couldn’t marry him.”
“Why not?”
I was quiet while I thought over how to explain my feelings. Noticing he had about fingers width of bourbon left in his glass, I grabbed it, downing the rest of it.
“Hey. I was drinking that.” He protested. That was all the courage I needed.
“I couldn’t marry Evan because he wasn’t you. And you weren’t there to say anything by the time I walked down the aisle. You were just going to give me away and live the rest of our lives wondering what if.” I told him while I stared into the bottom of the now empty glass, too afraid to look him in the eye.
“You- really? How did you know…?”
“Zach told me.”
“I know I wasn’t there Ellie. I just. I couldn’t sit there in that church and watch you marry him. And I knew I was and would be too much of a coward to stand up and say something when I saw you standing up there with him. I had to let you be happy.”
“Don’t you get it Montgomery? I wouldn’t have been happy. Not really. Or at least not for long. Not with Evan.”
“So why did you agree to marry him?”
“Because I thought it would be easier? My friends liked him, my family liked him, I liked him. I just thought that it would be easier to ignore my feelings. I could marry him, officially move to Atlanta, come home a couple of times a year, have a couple of kids. It all seemed easier than admitting to myself that I was in love with my best friend and if I really, truly wanted to be happy, I would need to be with him instead. And that admitting that would change everything. But I’ve learned over the past year that easy doesn’t always mean happy. And sometimes what we think is easy in the short term, isn’t always easy in the long term.”
He chuckled lowly, “took you long enough.”
I furrowed my brow at him, “what is that supposed to mean? I just confessed my love for you, and that’s all you have to say?”
“Yeah. It took you long enough to come to that conclusion. You were what? Half-way through the ceremony before you put a stop to it?”
“Not exactly. I knew a while ago. I spent the whole morning shaking and waiting for you to come and tell me that I was making a mistake. When you didn’t come, I thought… that you either didn’t feel the same way, or that you were going to do the kind thing for once and not say anything, but I thought at least you would be there. When I saw that you weren’t, I knew I couldn’t marry him. Even if it was the easy choice.” When he didn’t say anything I added, “you picked a great time to do the kind thing.”
“Yeah, well. You knew it would happen sometime. You owe me another shot by the way.”
“Oh please. There was barely a fingers width in your glass.” I told him, sighing dramatically.
He looked at me through his impossibly long eyelashes, “they won’t serve you that small an amount.” I rolled my eyes and stood up to go order him another shot. You owe me another shot… men. I was surprised when he grabbed my wrist to stop me, before pulling me into his lap, rather gracefully given the fit of my dress, and kissing me deeply. Monty pulled away first and turned to look out the window. Our friends had gotten out of the car and were clapping and high fiving each other.
“How about that shot now?” Monty smirked.
Don’t Fuck with Love Potion
Tumblr media
Pairings: Jungkook x Reader (friends to lovers)
Ratings: Fluff
Word Count: 5.8k
Summary:
“You can ask y/n and Jungkook,” Jimin sighed. The two of you looked around the table. Namjoon was petrified. Seokjin was crying. Taehyung was drunk and crying. And Jimin looked as if he stressed his way to another dimension. And best of all, you guys had an audience to boot.
You and Jungkook looked each other and without even saying, the two of you knew that you were fucked.
You and Jungkook try to prank your hyungs with some iced coffee but a mishap involving love potion makes your plan go horribly wrong.
Featuring: adoptive mother Kim Seokjin, petrified Namjoon, drunk Taehyung, Potion Masters Yoongi and Hoseok, and a very tired Jimin.
A/N: I honestly have no idea how Amortentia works but in here you basically fall for the person you see after drinking. Also, I hope you guys like this :).
Another A/N: I looked through this on mobile and there were like zero page breaks even though I added them for sure so I just went over everything and typed in my own page breaks.
“Where is she?” Jungkook huffed and ran a hand through his hair worriedly as he waited for you in the Slytherin common room. You’ve snuck stuff into school multiple times before for the pranks you and Jungkook, or sometimes with Taehyung and Jimin as well, pulled on other students. Jungkook himself would admit, though not to you, that you were the better smuggler than he was. Still, it wasn’t like you to take this long. Or maybe it was just his protective instinct when it came to you.
Just as he was about to leave the common room to go look for you the door suddenly opened and you strolled in with a bulging parcel partially hidden in your robes and a bag of chips under another arm. Jungkook raised an eyebrow at the bag of snacks.
“Really? That’s why your late?” he said, gesturing at the chips.
“What?” you pouted. “I had to miss lunch. And I know you love eating these as much as I do,” you said and passed the bag of chips to Jungkook. He grinned and opened it anyway, you knew him well. Even though your common room was in the Gryffindor tower miles away from his, you often visited Jungkook in the Slytherin common room to bring some snacks.
“Alright, bring out the secret weapon,” he grinned and rubbed his hands as you sat down beside him on one of the couches. You took the carefully-wrapped parcel from your cloak and unwrapped it before proudly presenting the bottle of Firewhiskey on the table. “Nice!” Jungkook grinned and high-fived you.
“You still have the iced coffee with you, right?” you said. Jungkook nodded and reached under the coffee table to bring out two bottles of iced coffee, fresh from the muggle world. He regularly asked his parents to send the stuff over. In all honesty, Jungkook would probably saw his arm off for a lifetime’s supply.
But Jungkook knew others who loved iced coffee. Namely, his hyungs Seokjin and Namjoon. On that same day he received his supply of iced coffee, he sent you a note in class about it. You wrote one word back: “Firewhiskey.” Jungkook probably grinned like an idiot when he read it. He shouldn’t be surprised honestly, you two have pulled pranks on others for years. But there was just something about being able to share the same idea with you that made Jungkook feel giddy.
“How much Firewhiskey should we add?” you asked, picking up a bottle of iced coffee. “One fourth of the bottle? One half?”
“One half should do the trick,” Jungkook said.
“You’re merciless,” you grinned and cracked open the bottle of Firewhiskey. One of the greatest things about the Slytherin dormitory is that no one really cares about the crazy shit they bring in. Once, Jungkook saw someone bring in a huge box of fireworks and no one said a thing.
The two of you opened the bottles of iced coffee and each drank half of the contents. Jungkook really had to control himself to not finish everything. Then, you filled the bottles to the top with the Firewhiskey. The great thing about Firewhiskey was that it barely had a scent too so it was impossible to tell. After a good shake, the bottles spiked iced coffee looked like just regular bottles of iced coffee.
“Seokjin and Namjoon are going to be so drunk tomorrow,” you laughed, leaning back against the couch and taking the bag of chips from Jungkook. He grinned, sat back down beside you with your shoulders touching and reached into the bag of chips as well. “You know, this might be one of our best pranks yet,” you spoke through a mouthful of chips.
“Really? After five years of pranking?” Jungkook asked, taking the bag of chips from you again. You were right to bring some, he was pretty hungry. “Nah, I think our best one was still putting whipped cream on the faces of those kids who made of Hagrid.”
“Or the time we put their beds on the roof of the Astronomy Tower,” you grinned at the memory. Jungkook struggled to take his eyes off you but he grinned as well.
“Oh, that was amazing,” he agreed. “They had to break a window to get them back in. They tried so hard to get us punished for it too.”
“But they had no proof,” you wagged your finger.
“That should definitely go on our Hall of Fame,” Jungkook said before passing you the bag of chips. He always let you have the last of it. “Hey… what if we celebrate our prank tomorrow? In the Three Broomsticks?” Jungkook asked. Right away, his palms began sweating from nervousness but he tried to keep his voice nonchalant. After all, you two went out to Hogsmeade together quite often since third year. But since fourth year, Jungkook started to notice how nervous he felt around you. He couldn’t exactly pinpoint when it started. Maybe it happened when he saw you with pastel blue hair after an experiment courtesy of Taehyung. Maybe it happened when you two walked around Hogsmeade alone on Christmas because you two lost the rock-paper-scissors game for treating others to butterbeer. Maybe it happened when Jungkook felt a bit scared when another guy confessed to you.
Maybe Jungkook realized it when he felt relieved after you said that you turned that guy down.
“Sounds good,” you agreed.
“Huh? What?” Jungkook blinked, snapping out of his thoughts.
“I said ‘sounds good’,” you repeated. “You were spaced out again. Has all that Haikyuu!! Fanfiction finally fried your brain?” you joked.
“Shut up, I don’t even read that much now,” Jungkook shoved you as you burst out laughing. It was a lie though, Jungkook often charged his phone during the afternoon in the Room of Requirement so he could read it at night. “So, want to go tomorrow at 5 or something?” he asked.
“As long as you pay for it,” you smirked and stood up. “See you tomorrow, nerd!” you waved as you left. Jungkook could tell he was pouting slightly as he watched you leave. But that didn’t stop him from yelling “See you tomorrow, nerd!” right before you shut the door.
...
You could feel that your face was as bright as the fucking Gryffindor banners by the time you got to your Common Room. It even took you 10 whole minutes to rack your head for the password before you uttered ‘Blast-Ended Skrewt’ and burst through the door. Once inside, you ran directly to your adoptive mother Kim Seokjin and buried your bright red face in his lap.
“Aish, did you talk to him again?” you heard Seokjin say as he patted you on the head.
“Yeah…” you mumbled and lifted your face up. “He asked me to go to Hogsmeade tomorrow after… studying,” you confessed, careful not to say anything about the prank. As much as you loved your adoptive Gryffindor mother, you loved pranking him just as much.
“Hmmm… maybe you should wear a cocktail dress,” Seokjin suggested. You bitch-slapped him.
“Not. Funny.”
“Fine, fine,” Seokjin waved the idea off. “Well, it could go both ways. You could not say anything about the major crush you’ve had on him for the past five years and continue pining for a good long time. Or, you could actually say something about the major crush you’ve had on him for the past five years and you two could make-out happily in the Shrieking Shack or something.”
“Seokjiiiin,” you whined. “You’re not giving the most stellar advice right now.”
“Look,” Seokjin said, taking both of your hands in his. “Jungkook has been your best friend for 5 years. If you really wanted something more, there’s nothing wrong with saying it out loud. If he’s hesitant about it, he’ll probably tell you right away. It’s Jungkook after all.”
“You’re right…” you sighed. Jungkook really did know you best among all your friends, maybe even more so than adoptive mother Kim Seokjin. Jungkook knew when you were feeling stressed about an assignment or an exam even without you mentioning anything. He could instantly name your favorite Pokemon and anime characters. Once, you had a feeling that Jungkook knew exactly when you had your period because of that time when he brought Honeydukes chocolate to your common room while you were being attacked by cramps. Jungkook pretty much knew you like the back of his hand.
“And if he wants to make-out with you in the Shrieking Shack, he’ll definitely let you know,” Seokjin added. You grabbed a pillow and whacked him in the face.
“Not! Helping!” you fumed. Seokjin laughed and held up his arms to protect his face. Now you didn’t regret spiking his iced coffee tomorrow.
...
“Yah! Jungkook-ah! Wake up!” Yoongi groaned, nudging his underclassman to wake up.
“Five more minutes…” Jungkook mumbled and rolled over to hug his pillow.
“Five more minutes to continue your y/n fantasy huh?” Yoongi smirked and grabbed Jungkook’s pillow.
“Ah hyung! Why do you have to be so mean?” Jungkook groaned despite feeling himself blush slightly at what his hyung said. “I’m getting up.”
“A fan sent you a gift,” Yoongi said, pulling out a cooler underneath Jungkook’s bed that he used to stash his iced coffee. “It’s a whole bunch of iced coffee. I already added it to your cooler and everything.”
“My cooler?” Jungkook sat up. The cooler which had only two bottles in it which had the Firewhiskey? The cooler which was now full of other bottles of iced coffee? Jungkook hopped off his bed and checked the cooler. Sure enough, it was filled with 6 identical bottles of iced coffee.
“Man, you must really like iced coffee,” Yoongi said. “Anyway, I’m going ahead,” he waved and left the room. “Breakfast is almost over
“Shit…” Jungkook cursed and looked through the bottles of iced coffee. It was impossible for him to tell which was which. He bit his lip instead and grabbed six bottles before shutting the cooler. ‘It’s going to be alright,’ he told himself as he began to get dressed. ‘It’s just going to be a 2 out of 6 chance now.’ With that thought, he grabbed the six of them and headed down to the Great Hall for breakfast.
It was a Saturday morning and that meant the Great Hall was filled with students eating late breakfast after sleeping in during the weekend. Jungkook easily spotted you in your bright, Gryffindor-red sweater seated at the Ravenclaw table with Seokjin and Namjoon. Jungkook bit his lip anxiously and headed over to the three of you.
“Wow, someone woke up on a Saturday,” Seokjin gave a slow clap as Jungkook slid into the seat right in front of you.
“Tell that to Yoongi-hyung,” Jungkook grinned, trying to hide his nervousness for a bit, before placing the six bottles of iced coffee on the table. Your eyes widened slightly at the sight and you looked at him in a panic. ‘Six bottles? Why would he bring SIX bottles?’ you thought frantically. Jungkook threw you a look and shook his head ever so slightly to indicate that whatever the hell happened, you had to shut up about it either way.
“Hey, your parents sent you some already?” Namjoon said, raising his eyebrows in surprise.
“Yeah, there was a sale apparently and—”
“Kookie!”
Jungkook was quickly cut off when his other best friend, Kim Taehyung, another fifth year from Ravenclaw, hugged him from behind and making him pitch forward. You quickly pulled a bowl of oatmeal from under his face before Jungkook could actually hit it.
“Nice save,” Namjoon nodded at you.
“It was for the oatmeal, obviously,” you joked.
“New iced coffee! Are you going to share with us?” Taehyung asked, jumping up and down while still holding on to Jungkook. Shortly after, Park Jimin, a Hufflepuff fifth year, appeared beside Taehyung as well. Not a surprise since the two, along with Jungkook, were always together. You remembered that time when Taehyung burst into Herbology class when Gryffindor and Hufflepuff were having a class because he wanted to work on a group project with his friends.
“You look like you’ve had enough,” Jimin said before sitting down next to Jungkook. “But then again, it is iced coffee.”
“Kudos to that,” Seokjin said.
“Fine, fine, I’ll share,” Jungkook gave in before passing a bottle to everyone in the table. Taehyung walked across the table to sit next to you before taking the drink from Jungkook. The last one he passed a bottle to was you but not before hesitating slightly.
“Our Jungkookie really is being nice today,” Jimin grinned and mussed the maknae’s hair. “He’s really maturing.”
“Thanks a lot, Jungkook,” Namjoon smiled and opened his bottle before drinking. Seokjin and Jimin did the same. Taehyung was already drinking his. Meanwhile, you and Jungkook opened your bottles slowly and waited for everyone’s reactions before taking a drink.
Then, you saw Jimin frown and put down the bottle he was drinking.
“Did you spike this?!” Jimin looked at you and Jungkook with wide eyes.
“Well, you don’t seem affected by it,” you smiled sheepishly just as Taehyung fell face-first on a bowl of cereal.
“Seems like he is though,” Jungkook said. You pulled Taehyung up by his shoulders.
“Taehyung-ah! Taehyung-ah! Wake up!” you shook him awake. His eyes flew open and he smiled at you lazily.
“Y/n-ah!!” he gushed, slurring over his words.
“Do you feel okay, Taehyung?” you asked. Taehyung nodded twice before wrapping his arms around you and smothering you in a hug.
“I feel greaaaaaat,” he giggled. “Can youuuuu… name your firstborn child… after me?”
“You two made such a huge mistake,” Jimin said, attempting to peel Taehyung away from you.
“Stop it!!!” Taehyung whined and pushed Jimin back in his seat before hugging you again.
“It was supposed to be for Seokjin and Namjoon,” you groaned and tried to push Taehyung off of you yourself. The milk and cereal on his face from his little dip earlier was beginning to stain your favorite sweater. “Jungkook! Help me out!”
“Umm, y/n? I think you need to see this,” you heard Jungkook say. You disentangled yourself from Taehyung slightly and looked up to find adoptive mother Kim Seokjin staring at Namjoon with an expression you thought could only be found in those trashy shoujo mangas that were undeniably your guilty pleasure to this day.
“Oh shit,” you and Jimin chorused.
“Why… does it feel like my heart is beating so quickly….” You heard Seokjin whisper. “I hope he doesn’t notice.”
“Dude, he can literally hear you from here,” Jungkook said before Namjoon clamped a hand over his mouth.
“Shhh…” he shushed him. “I want to hear his voice.”
“You don’t think..?” Jimin gestured at the two of them.
“Yoongi-hyung told me that a secret admirer gave those extra bottles of iced coffee,” Jungkook swallowed. ‘That would have been quite the disaster too,’ you thought.
“Sit down, Taehyung,” you finally pushed your friend off you completely and grabbed Seokjin’s unfinished bottle of iced coffee before giving it a whiff. Sure enough, you were greeted with the smell of the Quidditch field after a day of rain and that ‘Keep it Fresh!’ mint shampoo Jungkook always bought.
“It’s Amortentia,” you said. Jimin and Jungkook groaned in unison while Taehyung happily clapped his hands.
“I want to try!!!” he exclaimed, making a grab for the bottle which you quickly stashed away. Taehyung pouted and sat back.
“But soft!” Namjoon exclaimed, standing up on the table and gesturing towards Seokjin beside you who was covering his blushing face. “What yonder light through window breaks!”
“Sit down!” Jungkook hissed and pulled at Namjoon’s robes. Everyone in the Great Hall turned their way to view all the commotion happening. Namjoon, however blatantly ignored everything and continued with his spiel.
“It is the east and Seokjin-hyung is the sun!”
“We’ve got to shut him up, now!” you ordered Jungkook.
“Got it!” he nodded before pulling out his wand. “Petrificus Totalus!” he yelled as he waved his wand. Seokjin leapt to catch Namjoon’s petrified body before he crashed to the ground.
“NO! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!” Seokjin cried.
“Jimin-ahhh… What happened to Namjoon-hyung??” Taehyung clung to Jimin and cried.
“You can ask y/n and Jungkook,” Jimin sighed. The two of you looked around the table. Namjoon was petrified. Seokjin was crying. Taehyung was drunk and crying. And Jimin looked as if he stressed his way to another dimension. And best of all, you guys had an audience to boot.
You and Jungkook looked each other and without even saying, the two of you knew that you were fucked.
...
“So let me get this straight. A third of you are drunk, another third are in love, and you and y/n are responsible for all of this,” Hoseok said as he surveyed the scene in front of him. After a bit of wrangling, threat-making, and bribery, the six of you somehow managed to end up in the courtyard all in one piece. That is, with Namjoon still petrified and currently levitating thanks to Jungkook, Taehyung leaning against Jimin while trying to sing dubstep, and you trying to console a sobbing Seokjin.
“Y/n and I are only responsible for the drunk part,” Jungkook clarified. “The love potion thing came from a secret admirer.”
“And I’m not drunk,” Jimin added.
“Yeah, what the fuck?” you looked at him incredulously. “Jungkook and I filled half of that thing with Firewhiskey.”
“Skills,” Jimin winked at you.
“But yeah, that’s the situation,” Jungkook said. After some deliberation, the three of you decided that it was best to go to Yoongi and Hoseok for some help. Namjoon and Yoongi were usually the go-to friends whenever something wrong happened but at the moment Namjoon was out of commission. Or more specifically, petrified and levitating.
“Can’t we have one Saturday in peace?” Yoongi sighed. He and Hoseok would often be found dueling in the Hogwarts courtyard whenever Hoseok didn’t have Quidditch practice. That was how you found the two of them earlier but now Hoseok was just looking at everyone worriedly while Yoongi was curled up by the fountain’s edge.
“Apparently not,” Hoseok shook his head.
“Do you think you guys can brew a love potion antidote in the classroom?” you asked. “I mean, Professor Slughorn likes the two of you and I bet he’ll even help you out.”
“How are we going to explain the situation to him?” Yoongi raised his eyebrow.
“I guess the whole being poisoned by Amortentia from a secret admirer sounds reasonable enough,” Jimin said. “Amortentia is illegal in school.”
“It sounds like a plan,” Hoseok shrugged. “But y/n and Jungkook owe me one.”
“You’re buying snacks for us for 6 months,” Yoongi added. You and Jungkook looked each other, weighing the benefits.
“Well, we’re not buying for someone like Seokjin-hyung,” he said, gesturing at the older student who was busy stroking Namjoon’s petrified face worriedly.
“It’s a deal then,” you agreed and shook Hoseok’s hand.
“Wait, wait, wait,” Yoongi butted in. “What are we going to do with him?” he pointed at Taehyung who was playing in the fountain.
“He’ll sober up once he gets tired,” Jimin shrugged.
“Oh by the way,” Hoseok said. “You two need to collect some ingredients. Professor Slughorn is running low on some things we need.”
“Like what?” Jungkook groaned.
“Doxy eggs, which you can find in the Herbology room,” Yoongi said. “Another would be star anise which is just from the Hogwarts kitchens.”
“Jungkook and I can get the Doxy eggs,” Jimin volunteered.
“I want to go with y/n!!!” Taehyung yelled, climbing out of the fountain and running towards you, even tripping twice, to smother you again in a hug. He was soaking sweat and apparently, so were you now.
“Alright, alright,” you said. “What are we going to do with the lovebirds?”
“You can leave Namjoon-hyung with us,” Yoongi said.
“You won’t take him away from me!” Seokjin yelled at him. You pulled him back wit you and tried to pull him back.
“It’s okay. They’re just making a potion to help your prince or whatever wake up,” you soothed him.
“I’m not taking that guy with me,” Jungkook shook his head.
“Fine, I’ll take him,” you groaned.
“Hooray!” Taehyung cheered and hugged Seokjin. “The more the manyer!!”
“I guess our hangout in Hogsmeade later as to wait, right?” Jungkook sighed, looking at you. You felt butterflies hatching in your stomach. All the chaos that happened this morning pushed that thought completely out of your head.
“Yeah,” you nodded and smiled. “Let’s fix this mess quickly so we can leave.”
“Alright, you kids run off and get those potion ingredients now,” Hoseok interrupted, ushering everyone out of the courtyard. “Y/n’s right, we’ll need to brew the potion too so be quick about getting those ingredients. The star anise can come in last but we’ll need the Doxy eggs soon.”
“Let’s go Y/n!!!” Taehyung cheered, grabbing onto your hand and running ahead. You, in turn, grabbed onto Seokjin’s cloak and dragged him along with you.
...
“Can’t this go any faster?” Jungkook groaned as he searched through a clump of valerian plants for Doxy eggs which turned out to be quite hard to find.
“If you can miraculously find a ton of Doxy eggs and somehow manage to collect them without breaking anything then, yes,” Jimin answered. Jungkook looked over at him and found his friend bending over near a Snake’s Mantle plant and carefully scraping Doxy eggs from one of the leaves into a small glass container that was almost half-full. Jungkook’s container only had 2 or 3 eggs in it.
“Just think about meeting Y/n later in Hogsmeade for motivation or something,” Jimin suggested. “Or is that going to be too much of a distraction?”
“Shut up…” Jungkook felt himself blush as he continued to look through the leaves.
“I guess it is a distraction,” he heard Jimin laugh. Jungkook blushed harder and tried to concentrate on collecting more Doxy eggs instead. But he couldn’t help but think about the fact that you two would be in Hogsmeade right now if it wasn’t for the mess that happened this morning. You looked like you were ready to go out this morning actually. Were you as excited to hang out as he was? Or maybe you just saw it as another one of your friendly hangouts?
God, Jungkook just couldn’t stop thinking about you.
“Do you think I should confess to her?” Jungkook spoke up, turning to look at Jimin.
“I think you should have confessed to her long ago,” he replied, not looking up from his work. “Why? Are you planning to do it later?” Jimin tossed him a teasing smile.
“Y-yeah,” Jungkook stammered. “I mean, I was kind of waiting for the right moment and I kind of feel like I should do it soon. Before we run out of time to spend in Hogwarts. I just don’t know if she’ll return my feelings.”
“Jungkookie,” Jimin raised an eyebrow at him. “Have you really not learned anything from all those “friends to lovers” Haikyuu!! fanfictions you’ve been reading?”
“Hey…” Jungkook pouted. “Sometimes they don’t work out. Sometimes the entire friendship gets ruined.”
“Think about your friendship with her,” Jimin said. “Think of all the things you two had gone through. Do you really think your friendship will get ruined?”
Jungkook mulled that thought over. One of the reasons why he didn’t want to push for a relationship with you was because he didn’t want to destroy the friendship you two had already shared. He felt like that in itself was special and maybe he was just being greedy for wanting more. But God, sometimes it felt like you two were made for each other, as corny as it sounded.
And if you felt the same way about him… well, wouldn’t that be wonderful?
“I’ll confess to her later,” Jungkook decided, feeling a swell of motivation rush over him.
“Go get ‘em tiger,” Jimin grinned at him.
...
“Here you go,” you walked up to Hoseok and Yoongi who were busy stirring a cauldron in the Potions room and handed them a small bag of star anise. “Are 12 pods enough?”
“Just right,” Hoseok nodded, taking the bag from you and pouring the star-shaped pods into a mortar before grinding it up.
“My love?! Where have you gone?” Seokjin flew into the room and immediately headed towards a petrified Namjoon lying on the table.
“How long will it take before it’s done?” you asked Yoongi who was focused on stirring the potion counter-clockwise.
“Just a few more minutes,” he answered and looked around. “Where’s Taehyung by the way?”
“Passed out on the staircase outside,” you said. “We kind of just left him there for the meantime. What about Jungkook and Jimin?”
“We sent them to fetch some pumpkin juice from the kitchen,” Hoseok replied, sprinkling the powdered star anise into the potion. It turned a bright shade of pink and began smelling like licorice. “As pretty as the potion looks, Seokjin-hyung and Namjoon are going to feel pretty awful when they wake up so they’ll need something cold to drink.”
“I see,” you nodded.
“Just a few more stirs…” Yoongi mumbled as Hoseok got some cups ready. “And… done!” He ladled the potion into two cups before giving them both to Hoseok.
“I’ll take care of the two here,” he said, gesturing at Seokjin and Namjoon. “You can go ahead and get Taehyung.”
“Thank you so much,” you grinned at them.
“Don’t forget about the snacks you owe us,” Yoongi reminded you.
“I won’t,” you waved at them before heading out the door. You walked down the hallway and then turned right at the staircase where Taehyung was still passed out on the steps. Carefully, you leaned down and shook him awake.
“Taehyung-ah! Taehyung-ah!” you repeated. Taehyung groaned and rubbed his eyes. “Are you sober now?” you asked.
“No Newt Scamander, I can’t go on an adventure with you yet. Buckbeak won’t allow me,” he mumbled.
“I guess not,” you sighed and sat down on the step next to him. Taehyung rubbed his eyes some more and finally sat up.
“Ah! Y/n-ah! You’re here!” he grinned and hugged you again. “Is Jungkookie here?”
“No, he’s getting pumpkin juice with Jimin,” you replied.
“You know Y/n,” Taehyung smiled up at you and leaned against the stairwell. “You have nothing to worry about Jimin stealing your man. Jungkook’s heart is 99.9% for you,” he giggled.
“Yeah right Taehyung,” you rolled your eyes at him. ‘If only that was true though,’ you thought.
“I’m not lyyyinnng,” Taehyung whined, surprising you a little. “It’s truuuuuee. Jungkookie talks about it all. The. Time.”
“Alright…” you nodded slowly. After all the drunk talk from Taehyung all day, it was hard to believe in anything new coming from his mouth. But that didn’t stop you from being curious of course.
“What do you mean he talks about it all the time?” you decided to press.
“Jungkookie talks about his crush all the time,” Taehyung repeated before bursting out into giggles. “And he blushes so much too. Awww, he’s so cuuuuute.”
“Really?” you nodded interestedly.
“He even dreams about kissing you!!!” Taehyung squealed and sprang up. “First he’ll pull you up like this,” he grabbed your hand and pulled you up roughly to your feet with surprising strength. “Then he’ll do this…” Taehyung wrapped his arms around you before bending and lowering you towards the ground. His face was close to yours and your mind went on an instant flashback to all that trashy shoujo manga you’ve read. If Jungkook did this to you, you would probably die.
“Wow, he sure is creative,” you laughed nervously. Just as you heard the sound of something drop. Taehyung looked up.
“Jungkook-ah!”
...
Jungkook couldn’t believe it. You, in the arms of his best friend. He felt the pumpkin juice he had in his hands slip and fall to the ground, startling you and Taehyung.
“Jungkook-ah!” Taehyung grinned and let go of you. “Y/n’s here! I told her all about you!”
“Wait, what?” Jungkook felt his eyes widen in surprise. His heart started racing a million miles a minute as he turned to look at you. “W-what did you say?”
“Shit, it must have come out since he was drunk,” Jimin groaned.
“I told her all about your biiiiig crush,” Taehyung grinned.
Fuck, he did tell her. Jungkook felt his palms beginning to sweat now. Just a minute ago, he was all full of confidence and ready to tell you everything but now… he felt unprepared all over again.
“He’s probably joking about it, I mean he’s drunk after all,” you laughed and stood up. But then, you saw the nervous expression on Jungkook’s face. “Right, Jungkook?”
“Um… uh…,” Jungkook stammered. “I-I have to go.”
“Jungkook, wait!” Jimin tried to grab his arm but Jungkook broke free, pushing past you and Taehyung as he ran up the stairs. He wasn’t ready after all. All his bravado from earlier disappeared completely once he saw you and now he was nervous all over again.
“Jungkook!” he heard you call after him from behind as you ran up the steps as well.
“Th-there’s nothing to see here!” he yelled back as soon as he reached the landing.
“I have to tell you—ahh!”
At the sound of your scream, Jungkook whipped around to find you falling backwards against the stairs. You must have tripped on them again, you always did whenever you two were heading for Astronomy class. Quickly, Jungkook whipped out his wand and pointed it at you.
“Accio Y/n!” he yelled. You stopped falling and flew up the steps before Jungkook caught you in his arms. He held onto you for a while, trying to calm himself down from the scare earlier, before putting you down and letting you stand up on your own.
“Are you okay?” Jungkook asked. Your face was as white as a sheet but you licked your lips and nodded. You were more than alright. If it wasn’t for that Accio charm and Jungkook’s lightning reflexes your neck would have been broken by now.
“I want to tell you something,” you said softly. Jungkook nodded, quietly waiting for you to continue. You took a deep breath before finally saying “Amortentia, to me, it smells like your stupid ‘Keep It Fresh!’ shampoo.” You bit your lip, waiting for his reaction. Jungkook blinked in confusion.
“And what does that mean?”
“Stupid!” you blushed and smacked his chest. “It means I’m in love with you damn it! Don’t you listen to anything in Potions class?”
“Y-you’re in love with me?” Jungkook stammered. Now it was his turn to blush.
“Yeah,” you nodded and smiled to yourself. “And it smells like the Quidditch field after raining. It was from that time when you ran and hugged me right after winning the Quidditch cup against Hufflepuff.”
“I remember,” Jungkook grinned. “You hate the rain but even though you were wearing your favorite sweater and soaked to the bone that day you were still cheering the loudest.”
“Then I got sick for 3 days,” you continued. “And then you brought me that chicken soup which was surprisingly really good.”
“I may or may not have stolen Seokjin-hyung’s recipe book,” Jungkook smiled sheepishly as he stared at you. Your hair had come loose from it’s ponytail and there were a few messy strands around your face. He reached out his hand and carefully brushed them off. It was such shy gesture that you giggled and leaned nervously against his hand.
“Y/n…” Jungkook whispered. “Can I kiss you, finally?” You smiled and nodded.
“Yes you can, finally.”
You closed your eyes and Jungkook leaned in to close the space between your lips. It didn’t surprise him that your lips felt warm and inviting. That was your nature after all, underneath all the bad puns, sarcasm, and evil prank plotting. Kissing you made him feel as if it was just yesterday you two were young first-years exchanging hoodies and having snowball fights. Kissing you felt like being at home.
“JUNGKOOK AND Y/N SITTING IN A TREE! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!”
Jungkook groaned and stopped kissing you once he heard Taehyung’s voice echo through the stairwell. You turned around to find Jimin and Taehyung giggling from the lower landing of the stairs.
“Shut up Taehyung, you’re blowing our cover!” Jimin laughed and punched his friend.
“K-I-S-S-I-N-G!” Taehyung continued to sing and dance.
“Y/n,” Jungkook said and took both of your hands in his. “Would you like to go on a date in Hogsmeade with me after I beat the shit out of Taehyung?”
“Jungkook, I would love to,” you smiled back. Jungkook planted a kiss on your forehead before running down the stairs.
“TAEHYUNG I’M GOING TO GET YOU!”
...
“Ugh, what happened?” Seokjin groaned and rubbed his head. Hoseok was standing over him holding a cup of licorice-smelling potion in his hand.
“Hey, are you back to normal? Still in love with Namjoon?” Hoseok asked.
“Still in love with what?” Seokjin spluttered.
“We were poisoned with Amortentia apparently,” Namjoon spoke up. He was sitting on one of the tables in the Potions room and rubbing his forehead as well.
“Don’t tell me…” Seokjin’s eyes widened. “Did we..?”
“Not as far as I know,” Yoongi spoke up. He was cleaning up leftover ingredients at one of the Potions tables. “Geez, where are Jungkook and Jimin? I told those two to get you guys some pumpkin juice.”
“JUNGKOOK AND Y/N SITTING ON A TREE! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!”
The four of them turned towards the door as they heard what was unmistakably Taehyung run past.
“COME BACK HERE TAEHYUNG!” Jungkook yelled as he ran past the room as well.
“Were those..?” Seokjin frowned and pointed to the door.
“I don’t know, and I don’t care,” Namjoon shook his head and hopped off the table. “I’m going to bed and hopefully not have to wake up until Monday,” he said as he walked out the door.
“That’s a good idea,” Seokjin agreed and followed him out the door as well.
“You’re welcome for curing you!” Hoseok called after them.
“Shut up,” Yoongi said. “It was our fault in the beginning anyway. Who knew that Jungkook and Y/n wouldn’t drink any of the iced coffee?”
“Or that Seokjin and Namjoon would,” Hoseok snickered. “It was funny though.”
“And by the sounds of things, I guess everything went well,” Yoongi shrugged. “And now we know that we shouldn’t fuck with love potion.”
“Yup,” Hoseok nodded and helped Yoongi clean up.
“Want to do it on Taehyung and Jimin next?”
“Hell yes.”
I’ve had some dreams since the new year started so I better write ‘em up before I forget :P
In the first one (that was also on the first I think) I had some kind of small computer on me... kinda shaped like that Rotom pokédex. Anyway, it detected errors of some kind? Or plot holes in a script maybe? It was black and the also dark display had green text appear on it. That’s all I can remember tho.... #debugging2018
Then there was a scene in our yard; dunno about the details anymore, but the cherry tree in it died and you could pull the bark and inner parts apart like.... hmmm... like bone marrow and bone, is the best comparison I have. I also caught two lizards in our garden, it might have been part of this dream. The second one glittered all golden, and once I held it and looked at it, it had about 6-8 small fins instead of legs on its sides! Was really pretty. I released it afterwards.
Then there was some dream where the only detail I remember was that mom already died, like, probably way back. I think that’s about all there is to it by now... actually, no, I also remember travelling around my old dormitory in Budapest in that one. It’s late fall or winter, I’m at a bus stop at one point.
Then I was late for my, uh... degree awarding ceremony once. (Is that what you call it? I’m a few months early to worry about that lmao, anyway, that dream is from the 4th, before I traveled up to take 2 exams.) I’m positive I was in the dream iteration of the hill with the many vinyards around my father’s place. Which means it looked much more pleasant than it is. I’m p sure my subconscious is molding it together with my short time on my grandpa’s plot, where you could actually see a lot of various flowers planted around. It was oddly close to where I was supposed to go in town, and there were trams. Obviously, I took the wrong one. The settlement looked more like my home town, however, the street was a lot like Sycamore Row with the plants it was named after. I eventually did reach the building, it kinda was a mix of the place we went to for St. Nicholas’ day and my elementary school, there even were those low benches that had seen a lot of wear. Before I could actually catch up to the others after changing(?), I woke.
Then, two days ago on the 7th, I was dreaming of some Egyptian tomb, at least that’s where my memories start... someone killed a dude, and another vaguely pyramid head looking guy got gutted with a longish knife. After the killer hid the stuff happening bahind a blanket, for some reason. The staircase behind them however was already school building-y, and the scene turned into the university building I’m in a lot nowadays. Turning back and removing the blanket, the guy himself is gome and the guts are all shriveled up; there’s a small machine attached to one of the organs, like... a way too oversized pacemaker. That looks like a transformator tbh. Anyway, next thing I know some of me fellow students are there, the first one of them is Adam, and for whatever fucking reason the things on the floor are “his”, and he’s slowly dying on me because his heart stopped and his organs don1t het oxygen anymore. He starts turning purple and all that; spots on his hands and around his mouth, then there’s a cartoony deadness-level also appearing on his head, slowly crawlying up his face. As is customary in dreams, you turn around once and he’s another person, this time Matthew, another student. It was fine watching him/them die and just talk about shit until the friends of his arrived who were all emotional and shit and dream-me caught up tobeing like that soon enough, too. It’s all as if he would have died soon anyway, because he has two sweaters, one for greeting 2018 alive, and one for 2019. (wow I jsut realized how close 2020 is... geez). Anyway, then the next and last thing is that me and the girls are miffed about the staff removing the fuckign coffee machine. (Let’s be honest, the whiplash here is hilarious.)
And today on the 9th... it was a brief one... I remember walking around in the dark, talking to some kids about ghosts and such... then I walk into a house. I’m a maid or something? Maybe? Either way, apart from the one room I start in, everything is fucking dark and creepy, only the lights from outside show the way... you can basically feel the amnesia dude on your back all the time. And all the walls are covered in switches that don’t work. Like, fuck me, right? Needle in the haystack... then the owner dude arrives, and I look for a toilet. Guess I had to go already irl, anyway, there are none and I walk out of the building to some park that also has none. The place has small-ish buildings themed from all around the world, I remember a castle and a Japanese pagoda + shop. It was Japanese because there were geishas painted on it, okay? Okay. Anyway, I make my way back through the street and my system doesn’t really keep any other info, I wake up shortly.
(The street view itself reminds me of another dream I had, from around summer... it was Christmas at a university that I positively never attended before. There was some kind of gifting among the students near the enthrance inside, and a big-ass tree next to the staircase. I go outside; it’s already dark in a big, dirty city and there's snow. I walk along the street, looking for someone. There’s a bridge I cannot cross. The sun rises with some orange-ish hues beyond the bridge and the city centre, it’s relatively cloudy.)
(The previous one also made me remember another recent dream, from last year. I was with, like, a class, but the teachers were the uni professors. We walk deeper and deeper inside in a wannabe-tournament, kind of like the running race from Boku no Hero. I get a regular old gun for hunting with who knows what kind of bullets to shoot at anyone when I come in among the first people in one stage of the race. The gun doesn’t work and I give it back to the dude who handed it to me; I go after them and enter a very Bloodborne-y part of the building. It looks like underground stables, I think thre’s also cows. Since I see noone, I decide to go back and I run into Jeb, our American teach. He leads me to an elevator to lead me out, but does not join me and just sends it down instead of up. As the thing opens a lot of people try to get in; they press some floor up, but the thing goes down again. The mild panic of the people gets contagious at this point ngl- everyone is obviously trying to get up. The next stop is some elementary school place- I follow a teacher to show us the way, but it’s just a dumb joke she draws on the chalkboard. I laugh and get back to the elevator, but take the stairs next to it instead, because fuck this, and I’m gonna get so fucking fit anyways. Except it only takes one floor to get back... I’m at the main entrance with the receptionist. Turns out the entire fucking building is, like, cursed or haunted or whatever. Jeb was just some ghost or something taking up his appearance, and the panicking people around the elevator are more lost students who have been erring around since god knows when. I see the worried professors sitting around near an office and ask them for how long we’ve been gone. Idk what they answer tbh... after a bit more erring around trying to fix things I wake up.)
38: tell us about your pet peeves!
aLRIGHT LADS welcome 2 megans ted talk
(skip this if ur not fond of drama)
so something (refer to the song he said suits myday) happened with jae recently and ive seen fans trying to defend him by @ing him and saying that they love him which is fine - great even! but what i dont approve is how everyone’s basically forgotten about the whole matter because they had concerts so instead of @-ing him and asking him to explain himself, they tell him what a great concert it was which is also great bc their concerts are honestly amazing. basically my pet peeve is when ppl dismiss the problematic action of some people just bc they like them.
another thing is that there were some fans who started guilting others for wanting to drop day6 completely because of what jae did and in my opinion i think it is totally cool to want to drop a group if they did smth bad like??? its ur life???? u can choose who you want to like. what is not cool is pulling out all the good things the person has ever done in their entire life and try to remind others about the positive sides of the person. yes. they’re an encouraging person, etc. but that does not cancel out the bad things they’ve done until they explain/apologise. what is infuriating is just the manner some people took it?? they literally went ahead and tweeted shit like “would your parents drop you if you did smth wrong?” and “you’re seriously gonna drop someone whos been nothing been nice because of one incident?” yes. people will and you dont have any fucking right to stop them? so dont go pulling out receipts.
another thing. its also okay to want to stan the whole group even if someone has done smth problematic. like? to me youre cool if youre able to see and acknowledge the bad shit someone has done and still stand by their side while educating them at the same time its nice to have faith in your idols. however, i wont say much when your idols dont respond and/or respond in a way that shows absolutely no remorse. its cool if you want to support them too, despite that.
tldr; dont fucking excuse someone’s behaviour/action just because youre so far up their fucking ass. dont pull out shit from before either, be it good or bad. and lastly, its okay to want to drop/continue supporting them, its your life.
i just wanted to talk about this tbh,, it was nice to see a few mydays trying to urge jae to explain the whole situation but seeing as he still hasnt and couldve it really irks me :-/
okay update its been a day and i havent really thought about this but im kinda conflicted now bc jae still hasnt talked about the song and im probably just making a big deal out of smth that will never happen again but it really doesnt sit right with me knowing that jae recommended that song to his fans and said it suited mydays?? bc looking at the lyrics... i SURE hope not... idk i have neither forgiven or forgotten but he’s okay now.? i cant stay mad at someone for that long anyway ill never forgive him 4 it though lmao petty ppl only
another thing... jae’s still an amazing person to me with all the encouraging words he says to mydays but this one incident is just soOOOOO hrm and i did go off tangent with the question as usual lol
First this happened. Then this happened. Super thanks to @snarkyhag for the awesome beta.
--
The only saving grace about exam time, Blaine thought, was that somehow it made pizza taste even better. He wasn’t sure if it was some psychosomatic reaction or the perfect balance of protein, carbs, and fat traveling through his bloodstream straight to his brain - but it set off his reward center like nothing else. Except maybe a good orgasm (ideally brought on by something other than his own hand, thankyouverymuch).
The only problem was his roommate. Sam HATED Blaine’s preferred toppings of pineapple and ham, (“it’s fruit on pizza, Blaine, and fruit is healthy, it totally defeats the point of pizza being junk food! It makes it, I don’t know, less junky!”) Which was why he considered himself lucky that Sam had a nighttime photo shoot. Nothing was stopping him.
He dialed his favorite pizza place, telling himself he’d eat the leftovers for breakfast in the morning before Sam could bitch about it.
--
“Ouch!”
It was the fifth time Kurt had accidentally pricked himself with a pin while working on the partial costume that was barely holding together on the dress form. This was his final project for his Advanced Costume Design class, and it was about to look like a costume for Sweeney Todd instead of Hamilton (hmmm, maybe he could pass it off as from the “Battle of Yorktown?”). His vision was swimming in spite of all the coffee he’d ingested and...oh, he hadn’t eaten. That explained things; his blood sugar must have been off-balance.
He checked the fridge--nothing. He had been so busy with final assignments and living off bagels from the library coffee shop, he hadn’t gone grocery shopping and the fridge was only full of Rachel’s vegan friendly favorites. There were the kale chips she had bought on a whim, some tofu (ergh), and some homegrown kombucha from the farmer’s market that he was certain was becoming sentient. He briefly considered sauteeing up her seitan and vegetables into a stir fry, but he still had so much work to do and just the thought of cleaning up the kitchen afterward was more than he could bear.
He opened the drawer of menus and instantly salivated. He hadn’t had pizza with real cheese on it in months. Tonight not even Rachel Berry could stop him from getting his pineapple and pepperoni fix.
--
There was a reason the guys at Vanelli’s called their new delivery boy “Stoner Brett.”
Blaine was up and at the door before the delivery guy could even finish knocking.
“Uhhh, you order a,” the delivery boy who reeked of pot drawled, squinting at the label on the side, “a large pineapple?”
“Yeah, that’s me. Here you go,” Blaine said, handing over 25 dollars and taking the pizza box. “Keep the change.”
“Dude, cool,” Stoned Delivery Dude smiled and left. Blaine closed the door and went to set the pizza on the coffee table. He grabbed a plate, knife and fork from the kitchen, a handful of napkins (it was New York pizza) along with a soda from the fridge, and sat down to his mid-study reward.
“Mmm, come to papa,” Blaine moaned, as he opened the box.
And was immediately disgusted.
There was pepperoni on his pizza.
Now, Blaine understood that pepperoni was the most popular and stereotypically classic pizza topping. He figured it was an easy mistake to make. But it didn’t stop the queasy feeling they gave him. Little red nitrites, their edges crisped and curled up like the floors of Hell, their centers filled with a light yellow puddle of grease. Spicy little grease pools that dripped everywhere, and anyone who ever had to get grease stains out of polo shirts would empathize, he was sure. And with pineapple? No, just...no. The saltiness of the ham paired so well with sweet pineapple; slightly dry balanced with juicy bursts. But pineapple juice mixed with pepperoni grease?
Blaine would have cried if he weren’t so nauseous. And hungry.
He decided, maybe he could just delicately pick the pepperonis off? He picked up one, and gently attempted to pull it off the cheese...and the grease splashed back onto his shirt.
“GODDAMNIT.” He called Vanelli’s again, to try to get a replacement pie.
--
Kurt stomach growled and he looked up from his sewing and saw the time. It had been almost an hour since he’d ordered his pizza.
“Oh my god,” he mumbled to no one, reaching for his phone. He was just about to dial to find out where his food was when Rachel came noisily into the apartment.
“Kurt! You will never guess who I ran into tonight at yoga - Jesse St. James, from high school. You remember him?”
Kurt scowled. Yes, he remembered Jesse-St.James-from-high-school. He did not approve.
“Yes, but Vanelli’s never delivered my pizza so hang on; let me call them and you can tell me all about -”
The downstairs buzzer rang before Kurt could push the numbers. The caller ID’d himself as the pizza delivery guy so Kurt buzzed him up.
“I hope that’s the Vegan Double, Kurt, I am starving,” Rachel followed him to the door, standing behind him and looking skeptically at the delivery guy. Kurt didn’t recognize him, but he definitely recognized the slightly sour scent of streetcorner weed. He made a face and paid the guy, but he didn’t have the heart to skimp on his tip, even with the tardy delivery.
Kurt set the box on the dining table, “Rachel I didn’t order the vegan one,” Kurt said, opening the box. “You weren’t here so I opted for - not this.” Kurt stared at the pizza. It was almost right. He could have sworn he’d ordered pineapple and pepperoni, but that was definitely ham on the pie. Whatever, he shrugged to himself. Pork is pork.
“Gross.” He had almost forgotten Rachel was standing there. “I don’t know how you can eat that, Kurt. Those poor pigs, and all the milk for that cheese belongs to the baby cows -”
“Calves, Rachel. They’re called calves.” Kurt rolled his eyes.
Rachel sat across the table with her most judgmental look. “They are baby cows, Kurt.”
“Whatever Rachel. I am starving and I am eating this pizza,” he said. But he knew he’d give in, he always did. And usually he didn’t even mind. He liked eating healthier, he felt better, and it was good for his occasionally fluctuating weight (although that had been less of a problem as he’d gotten older). But sometimes he just wanted a real freaking pizza. “Go make yourself something.  I’ll stop at two slices and eat the rest tomorrow after my exam. I still have to finish up the project for my costume design class and then we can watch a movie and have popcorn with that vegan butter you like, okay?”
Rachel grinned. “That sounds like a perfect night Kurt. Thank you!”
--
After the pizza mixup from the other night, Blaine was hesitant about ordering from Vanelli’s again. They had brought him a new pie, with the proper toppings, and he left the other for Sam (who, as expected, picked the pineapple off and threw it in the trash, what kind of monster…). But they had ordered once after that and it turned out fine, though the last delivery person was different (and decidedly not high as a kite), and the order had been correct (however, with Sam home there would be no pineapple). Blaine assumed they had fired the stoner from before.
Blaine sighed with relief when he came in from his last exam. He had sent his final paper in earlier that day, and with that another school year was behind him. He had a couple of weeks until his summer internship started, and for now he felt like celebrating. As far as he was concerned there was no better way to celebrate than with his favorite pizza. With the biggest puppy eyes Blaine could muster, Sam bent to his will and let him pick the toppings (“but I’m totally picking the fruit off!” he said).
“You’re the one best friend that anyone could have,” Blaine sang at Sam, as he went to take a shower, leaving Sam to answer the door.
--
Less than a week after the ham pizza incident Kurt was buried under a History of Design project and two back-to-back finals, one for his Advanced Playwrights class and the other a monologue from The Tempest for his Shakespeare class that Kurt was finding to be a miserable bitch to memorize. The further he got into the monologue the worse he got.
It took him about fifteen more difficult minutes to realize that he hadn’t actually eaten since breakfast, and that was probably why his brain wasn’t putting words together in any proper order, much less the order William Shakespeare demanded.
As good as the ham and pineapple pizza had been, he was still craving his favorite pineapple with pepperoni. Ham was fine, but a ham and pineapple pizza was just so boring. Pepperoni was spicy and chewy, and Vanelli’s had that special way of cooking the pepperoni so that they curled up around the edges and the tasty grease pooled deliciously in the center of each slice, like tiny bowls of processed pork product soup.
“God yes,” Kurt moaned as he thumbed open his phone and called the shop.
--
“Blaine, pizza’s here!” Sam shouted.
Blaine came out of his room, barefoot and wearing a fresh shirt and pair of jeans, pressing the moisture out of his curls. “Great, I’m starving! Wait,” Blaine sniffed the air, then at Sam’s clothes, and got a strange sense of deja vu. “Why does it smell like a Phish concert in here?”
“Probably because the pizza dude was totally stoned out of his gourd,” Sam laughed, as he opened the box.
Blaine didn’t even need to see the pepperonis before he knew they were there. “Damn it. I gotta call them back, get them to send a non-stoner to bring us a new pizza.”
“Um, why don’t you just give it to this Hummel person?” Sam asked.
“What Hummel person?”
“The person whose pizza this is? I looked at the receipt on the side. They only live two floors above us.”
--
Forty-five minutes later there was a knock on his apartment door, which made no sense unless Rachel had forgotten her keys, because they had a buzzer and everyone in the building was careful about not letting in someone without keys. Kurt looked through the peephole in the door. There was a guy on the other side that Kurt thought he recognized as one of the two guys who lived downstairs. The two cute guys. They’d never exchanged more than a polite nod, and neither he nor Rachel had been able to figure out whether they were a couple or not.
Oh well, cute guys don’t randomly knock on my door every day, he thought, as he opened it. It was one of the cute guys - the one who usually used too much gel in his hair (though not tonight and ooh those curls were sexy) - and he was holding a pizza box.
“Hi, can I help you?”
Cute Guy scowled. “I believe this is yours?” He lifted the edge of the box and Kurt could see his perfect pepperoni and pineapple pizza inside.
Kurt grinned. “Oh wow, thank you!” He reached out and took the box. “But how did you -”
“Know it was you? Your apartment number was on the box.”
“Oh, duh, of course! Well, thank you, um…”
Cute Guy extended his hand. “My name’s Blaine....”
“...Kurt.”
Kurt juggled the box to his left so he could shake hands with his right, and when their hands touched there was a spark. Blaine sure did have the prettiest eyes Kurt had seen in a long time. Maybe in ever. He wondered if Blaine might like to share his pizza. Or possibly his bed. “Would you like to come in?”
--
“Um, okay.”
Blaine was all ready to be super judgemental about whoever this Hummel person was, because he was perfectly allowed to judge based on choice of pizza toppings alone. But when the door opened, he wasn’t expecting the hot guy from the mailboxes. Sam was always teasing him that he was having an imaginary affair with the guy he ran into when he was getting the mail (and he wasn’t wrong). He can’t believe he never registered which apartment was his.
“Thanks for bringing up my pizza. I swear they mess this up every time.” Come on Kurt, you can be flirty. “Can I get you a drink, or do you want to share a thank you slice?”
How could someone so gorgeous have such awful taste in pizza toppings? He hoped it didn’t show on his face.
“I just have to ask one thing,” Blaine said.
Kurt turned from setting the pizza box on a table, raising an eyebrow. “Yes?”
“Why pepperoni?”
Kurt’s mouth dropped open. “Um, why not pepperoni?”
Blaine cringed internally, because this guy was so cute and wrong about pizza but still cute with such a melodic voice. But he had to know, because pepperoni was gross.
“Excuse me, what’s so gross about it?” Oh damn, he said that out loud. Well, in for a penny...
“It’s just so highly processed, and the way it curls up, and the grease pops out of it and settles into these icky, oily pools -”
“Very delicious grease, I think you mean.”
“- and you can’t pick them off without getting the grease everywhere. They are a crime against pizza! And with pineapple? How can you ruin such a perfect, juicy, succulent fruit, that just bursts with sweetness in your mouth?”
Kurt could think of something he’d like to burst in his mouth, all right. “All true. And don’t forget the occasional flash of tart the pineapple sometimes supplies,” Kurt said. “I suppose you would pair your pineapple with ham?” Kurt’s voice had gotten higher at that, and Blaine thought he might have moved a bit closer. He may even have licked his lips.
“It’s only the best balanced companion to pineapple. The ham has that little bit of smoky dryness and salty tang that pineapple pairs so nicely with.”
“But it’s just ham. It is literally the topping most commonly paired with pineapple. It’s so, so -” don’t say boring Kurt, you’re still trying to impress this guy, “predictable.”
“Predictable, huh?” Blaine said, and oh, he could watch Kurt’s lips purse around pronouncing words that start with “P” all night (even if one of them was “pepperoni”).
“Pepperoni is spicy, hot, it makes your mouth feel alive, Blaine. It - mmpf”
Blaine’s mouth was definitely alive, and it was living all over Kurt’s.
Kurt let out a squeak, but gripped Blaine’s shoulders, pulling him closer as they both settled into the kiss.
“Oh my god!” Blaine pulled away. “That was - I don’t know what that was. I am -”
“Do not say sorry.” Kurt pulled Blaine’s face with both hands and kissed him again, angling his head so their mouths slotted together, his tongue licking into Blaine’s mouth. Kurt pulled away when he finally needed air, and Blaine took a step backward. “Wow, um. Okay.”
They stood for a moment, evaluating each other.
“Would you like to stay for pizza?” Kurt asked, waving a hand backward toward his probably cold pie.
“No,” Blaine said.
“Oh. Well okay, I guess I read this wrong…”
Blaine panicked and grabbed Kurt by the arms. “No, I’m sorry, that’s not what I meant. I mean I won’t stay for that pizza. We can order another.”
“And, um, what should we do while we wait?”
Blaine gave him a sultry gaze. “I have some ideas.”
--
Three months later…
Blaine was sitting on the sofa reading through a magazine when the buzzer from the street went off.
“Hey babe, can you get that?” Kurt shouted from their bedroom. Their bedroom.
“Sure. Are we expecting someone?” Blaine pushed the buzzer. “Hello?”
“Delivery.” came the muddled voice through the tinny speaker.
“It’s a surprise!” Kurt sang from the other room.
They had only been living together for a few days, long enough to have most of Blaine’s things moved in while Kurt moved some of his out-of-season things to Rachel’s old room. It wasn’t like they even had that much stuff, it was just the act of combining their lives that made it seem like so much more.
It had seemed sudden to their friends, when Blaine moved into Kurt’s apartment, but with Rachel cast in a series shooting in Los Angeles and Sam moving back to Kentucky to be with his parents for a while, it had seemed like the obvious choice to both Blaine and Kurt.
“A surprise, huh?”
Blaine opened the door to find...Stoner Brett.
The pizza delivery guy. (They found out his name after another two misdelivered pizzas, and three calls to Vanelli’s. Everyone there called him that. It seemed fitting.)
“Hey, Sto--uh, Brett,” Blaine said.
“Yo, dude.” Brett looked confused a moment.  “Am I in the right place?”
Blaine laughed and fished money out of the jar by the door. “Yeah. I moved.”
“Woah. Cool.” He grinned and put up a fist for Blaine to bump.
Kurt came out of the bedroom as Blaine took the pizza. Brett looked even more confused. “Wow, dude, did you move too?”
“Um, no?” Kurt said, as Blaine put the pizza on the table. Brett stood for a moment, as if he wasn’t sure he was even in the right dimension, but eventually shuffled off without a word. Kurt brushed it off. “So, I thought to welcome you, we could have a compromise pizza!”
“Compromise, huh?”
“Yes,” Kurt said, as he wound his arms around Blaine’s waist. “Pineapple all over, but ham on one side for you, and pepperoni on the other side for me,” he punctuated with a wet kiss to Blaine’s lips.
“Aw, that’s so sweet!” Blaine cooed, as he leaned over and flipped open the box lid and… “Oh, you have got to be kidding me!”
They both stared into the box: the pizza had all the pineapple on only one side; the other side had the ham and pepperoni together.
“Well, we can’t blame Stoner Brett this time,” Kurt mused. “He only delivers them, he doesn’t make them.”
“So, what do you want to do?”
“Well, you know how I feel about pork, Blaine. Why settle for just ham and pepperoni when I can have sausage here at home?” He gave Blaine’s ass a squeeze and led them back to the bedroom.
That pie went cold. From then on they started ordering their pizza from Jimmy’s Famous instead.
