I recently bought an art book on Caspar David Friedrich, whose emotional work stuck with me since I first saw it in a museum years ago. Over the course of a few weeks, I read about his life and at the same time did studies/interpretations of many pieces. It was a really enjoyable and fulfilling project; here's a good lot of them together :)

I was happy to see many people enjoyed Friedrich's work+my interpretations while posting them individually. It took way too long, but I FINALLY set up a print shop for some of these + some other pieces for those who expressed interest. Thank you so much!

The Molar Horse, they're similar to IRL horses but alot bigger and with a bulkier neck... beside the obvious frontal tusks used for defense against predators and in intraspecific competition.

Due to their aggressive and fearless nature aswell as gigantic size theyre an excellent war mount, even if their domestication isnt for the weak.

when their lips are relaxed they cover all the teeth, this is to protect their integrity and also to avoid infections, this tissue is hardy but flexible enough to be pulled all the way back to show the hidden upward incisives and the rest of the teeth, baring their teeth can be out of distress or as a threat.

In a previous ask I explained how these animals can eat, in short I didn't want to add some type of trunk nor modify the appearance of the tusks especially the big frontal one so the easiest option to go is to have a large tounge strong enough to help it eat in a similar fashion to a giraffe.

But I was thinking that in my setting the general landescape is very desertic and there aren't many trees around, this opens an issue since the tounge was based on a giraffe tounge which is made to grab tree branches and pull the leaves into their mouths, so maybe these tounges could have spiky cavities similar to a feline tounge but much more exaggerated, this to be able to have a stronger hold on the dry grass and other types of dry food that probably would be on the ground.

In my story there are many important factions and in general they aren't benevolent specially since the war is a common occassion and each one have to do what it needs to success and maintain territory and resources, this faction, the Altan Empire (which hopefully i will show more of them in a future) is one of the few important nations that have managed to domesticate the dangerous Molar Horses, but to conceive this they had to do some evil shit

The lips of a molar horse are a very sensitive part of their body, these have many nerve conections to be able to move them and show different types of expressions, emotions and give indications to other Molar horses.

The removal of these lips greatly vaffects their behavior, making them docier and easier to handle aswell as opening a entrance to put the mouthpiece and colocate the bridle without having problems with the vast tissue, this is called marking.

A marked molar horse is alot less unstable than its wild counterpart, making them an excellent mount to be used in the loud and unpredictable battles between factions, it also improves their intimidation factor

But beside their obvious degradation in appearance, these animals become incapable of communicating normally with other molar horses.

Another problem are the infections, is common to see marked molar horses with infected pimples, scars or without some back teeth that fell off or had to be removed.

on the bright side, in recent times and due to the domestication of the marked molar horses, meaning that newborns are more docile withouth having to mark them aswell as improvements in the design of the bridle, said newborns are commonly left with their intact lips.

A larva? Oh boy! I love those! I'm skedaddling through the door to the Larva Lounge this instant to get a peek! "Larva? Let's Look!"

Eek! I was tricked! I was deceived! I was led to believe I would be encountering an immature insect whose anatomy is specialized for a different niche than that of its adult form, but this appears to be some sort of ghoulie. Rather frightening! But it IS quite cool. It's like an energy cyclone with an eye in the middle! An eyeclone! That would have been a better name. Excuse me, why is this creature advertised as a "larva"? I'm not disappointed, but I do feel misled.

"Yeah, we get that a lot. See, the word 'larva' was originally associated with ghosts and emptiness, and was used to refer to the spirits of the restless dead in ancient Roman religion."

Wow! I thought I would learn something about larvae today, but instead, I learned something about larvae! So, instead of being a baby bug full of a new life's worth of potential, a larva in this context is a spooky specter that represents death, to the point that it's an Undead enemy, meaning that revival magic will instantly kill it. I like whenever that sort of thing is done. A bit cheeky.

Larva can blind your party members, so you better have some Eye Drops! I hope the eye drops in this fantasy world are the contemporary little plastic squeeze bottle kind. I wonder if Larva envies your party's depth perception, though. Maybe things would be different if a wizard gave it a second eye. Then it could wear 3D glasses, and make the most out of Nickelodeon Magazine's special 3D March 2006 issue! Do you think it would like that?

Larva has a stronger counterpart! This one is purple. Finally, we can appreciate a swirling eyeball vortex without a misleading name! What is its name, anyway?

Its name is Lemur! Yeah, Lemur is basically a synonym for Larva in the mythological sense. What an unlikely duo a larva and a lemur are. I don't believe I've ever considered the two in the same sentence before, but now that I'm doing it, a real lemur would love to eat a real larva.

So hopefully you have learned something new about larvae and lemurs today! Tell your friends! Or better yet, tell a larva or a lemur, and blow its mind! Maybe you will inspire its next Halloween costume!

GRIFFIN!!! OF SELF CARE!! i did alot of self care today :D

self care includes: having a good therapy sesh.. got sum melatonin gummies and getting 8 hours of sleep tonight... showered really good.. brushed teeth and used lotion... took my meds on time... and also made myself dinna (sausage and garlic bread :3)

i also finally used the rest of the wood from my closet, so back to digital art!!!!
