Maximum ride pretty realistic is a bunch of tweens and children were told to name themselves and also they were bird mutants, they're obviously going to pick names like maximum ride and fang and gasman and angel. Not sure what's up with nudge and izzy

The Flock's D&D Classes
(Not what they would play— what they would be played AS. Inspired by that one post along the lines of "Maximum Ride reads similarly to a chaotic D&D game, and the series is much more enjoyable when you imagine it like that". Also, idgaf if the multiclasses don't have good composition. This is for vibes, not for playability.)
Max- Fighter (Champion 5)/Warlock (Great Old One 3): Max begins the series as a cut-and-dry fighter, serving as an offense-heavy tank through power, precision, and practice. Definitely strength-based. The warlock comes in later with The Voice, serving as a unknowable patron that occasionally gives her disturbing visions, one-time powers, and tries to drive her insane throughout the series. Has significantly less levels in warlock than fighter because she keeps trying to get restraining orders on her patron.
Fang- Rogue (Mastermind 7)/Sorcerer (Shadow Magic 1): Rogue is the only acceptable class for me to put Fang in. Stealthy and dexterity-based, able to blend perfectly into shadow, but with the charisma of the mastermind subclass to sway people to his ideas and have a decent eye for trustworthiness. His magic is limited, probably only 1 level that was triggered by his first death, but gives him a further buff to their stealth and lends them strength of the grave, which is helpful, considering that he's died two times and probably qualifies as a glass canon.
Iggy- Artificer (Artillerist 8): Cut and dry, Iggy is an intelligence-based class with a knack for pyrotechnics and area of effect damage, depending on heavier fighters to give him time to set his traps. Outside of combat, he continues being good at tinkering and utility-based skills, including cooking and repairs. Also, I like the thought of his growing perception skills not being an innate ability, but because he keeps experimenting with things (himself being the primary test subject) when Max isn't paying attention. He starts being able to taste colors and makes a note "chemical concoction #37 worked, good 2 know".
Nudge- Monk (Way of the Cobalt Soul 6): Don't come for me about using a CR homebrew class when it fits Nudge so well. While she's a martial class and a fighter at heart, being a monk of the cobalt soul allows her to use touch-based information gathering, like she starts being able to do in NYC, and the proficiency boosts explain her ability to sort through electronic information as effectively as she does.
Gasman- Artificer (Alchemist 4) Bard 2: Gazzy is also an artificer, following in Iggy's steps and able to replicate many of the bombs he makes, but also veers more into chemical warfare as time goes on. His bard skills come in through his mimickry, which he uses for both deception and stealth.
Angel: Sorcerer (Aberrant Mind 2)/Wizard (Enchantment 4): While Angel begins as an aberrant mind sorcerer, which lends itself towards her psychic abilities, she's also sunk a lot of time into honing her abilities to enchant and sway people to her will, even to their own detriment. Unfortunately, she is the ultimate glass canon, because she is not able to handle physical damage and will fold like cheap paper.
Bonus
Ari- Barbarian (Path of the Berserker 6): Ari is entirely fueled by his anger and fights to his own detriment throughout the series. RIP you tragic lil' dogboy.
Total- Angel's animal companion who is actually a man stuck in permanent polymorph.
Conclusion: This party has no healers and only one tank. Godspeed to them and all the shit they get into.
Bonus bonus (AKA: I accept that the LTNW renditions of the flock are fundamentally different characters, and therefore have different D&D classes. These are them.)
Maximum Ride- Barbarian (Path of the Ancestral Guardian 8): Every time Max deals substantial damage in LTNW, it is out of anger, like when Ari called Fang a slur or when Jeb called her his daughter. She is someone who is very angry all the time, and is also someone harboring a lot of grief. Ancestral Guardian Barbarians are tanks designed with protection in mind, and are fueled by their dead family members, showing how Max fights in the forefront specifically to take blows for more vulnerable people, and also fights with Gene and Emergency in mind, because they are the reminders that she is not invincible.
Fang Xue- Rogue (Phantom 8): Fang is STILL a rogue, fighting through dexterity instead of strength and relying on evasion/maneuverability instead of weathering blows. However, they don't put stakes in charisma like their canon counterpart, and therefore don't fit into the mastermind subclass. At this point, they are functionally dead, and their actions are deriving from someone who doesn't believe they have anything left to lose other than their family— therefore, they behave more like a phantom rogue. DEFINITELY qualifies as a glass canon.
Igneous- Paladin (Oath of Vengeance 5)/Artificer (Artillerist 3): Yeah, he's still an artillerist, focusing on traps and bombs, but the bombs are more of a means to an end. Iggy's actions are done out of loyalty and devotion to his family, and he is willing to do anything to ensure that their enemies won't be able to hurt them, regardless of the consequences. His oath is his dedication to the people he loves, and the willingness to leave behind his own morality on their behalf.
Nudge Angelou- Bard (College of Eloquence 7): Sure, Nudge is capable of combat, but where she really shines is in her charisma, swaying people to her side and serving as support during fights, as can be seen in her interactions with strangers and the way she can argue with her siblings and make her point. She's the face of the operation fair and square, and is beginning to realize how important that role is. Hopefully she'll get better at deception.
Gazzy- Rogue (Arcane Trickster 5)/Artificer 1: While Gazzy can certainly help with the bombs and traps Iggy sets and is thrilled to learn more, he's much more hesitant to apply them. He's more skilled and comfortable in trickery and manipulation, using his mimickry to disorient and impersonate, hoping to avoid combat all together or serve as a distraction from a safe distance while the rest of his siblings wreak carnage.
Angel- Sorcerer (Aberrant Mind 5): Where the Angel of canon had a lot of intention and practice in honing her skills, which gave her the wizard multi class, this version of Angel has very little control over her psychic powers, and has a lot more issues of her mind leaking into others in more unexpected and unpleasant ways. She is ALSO a glass canon and can easily be taken down with physical damage or her own seizures.
Bonus:
Ari- Barbarian (Path of the Beserker 4)/Ranger (Hunter 4): Ari is still fueled by rage and fights to his own detriment, he's just also comes with tracking buffs and more longterm planning abilities.
Michael Rivers- Rogue (Inquisitive ???)/Artificer (Maverick ???): While this doesn't fit perfectly because Mike isn't involved in combat, Inquisitive rogues excell at uncovering information whether people want them to or not, and Maverick Artificers are adept in a lot of different skillsets. While he's a purely utility character rather than combat-oriented, he's a helpful person to have around.
Conclusion: They STILL don't have a healer, but at least they have two tanks instead of one.

Jumping on the Maximum Ride rewrite train
Disclaimer I have not read Maximum Ride in years and I never read from Max onward and there’s no order to this I’m just writing down whatever I think of.
First of all, the Flock are test tube babies and anyone who tells them they are biologically their parents is a liar and they know this
Gasman has an actual name, August, because calling him Gasman is just weird. It can still be a nickname tho. I’m gonna be referring to him as August for the rest of the list btw
Max and Fang are 16, Iggy is 15, Nudge is 13, August is 10, and Angel is 6
They don’t randomly get powers that are irrelevant and useless. All their powers are present from the beginning, they just can’t seem to control them
Jeb is evil and emotionally manipulative like in canon and a recurrent plot point is the Flock trying to come to terms with the fact that he never really cared for them.
Fang uses a fucking VPN for his dumbass blog, also his blog looks like what you’d think Gerard Way’s MySpace page would look like.
Ari is still SEVEN and acts like you’d expect a SEVEN year old would: IE not being a creep to Max and not looking like he’s 18 and just being a scared little kid put through cruel experimentation by his father.
Total is there, but he cannot talk. No, not even to Angel. He’s just a little guy with no powers and no wings.
Angel can still read minds, but she’s really bad at controlling it. She sometimes accidentally reads minds without meaning to and feels bad about it because she is a child and shouldn’t be evil for no reason.
No forced ass “You’re kids but also save the world habe fun” plot. Its all them trying to stay undiscovered and safe. Every adult they meet betrays them (Besides Dr. Martinez)
Speaking of, Dr. Martinez takes them in and adopts them as her own once she and Ella manage to prove to the Flock that they’re like the only trustworthy people in the damn world.
Dr. Martinez gets to slap Jeb when he comes and tries to take the Flock away like “fuck you these are my kids!!”
The Flock considers each other siblings. Meaning no weird Max/Fang romance and also they’re kids.
The worst thing that happens is of course the School capturing everyone and now the Flock has to escape the school without Jeb’s help AND rescue Dr. Martinez and Ella bc that’s their mom and sister!!!!
That’s all I got James Patterson give me the rights to Maximum Ride right now

Review: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports
Tumblr media
Synopsis:
In MAXIMUM RIDE: SAVING THE WORLD AND OTHER EXTREME SPORTS, the time has arrived for Max and her winged "Flock" to face their ultimate enemy and discover their original purpose: to defeat the takeover of "Re-evolution", a sinister experiment to re-engineer a select population into a scientifically superior master race...and to terminate the rest. Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman, and Angel have always worked together to defeat the forces working against them--but can they save the world when they are torn apart, living in hiding and captivity, halfway across the globe from one another?
Plot:
It is time for Max to save the world. But what if she doesn’t? With the voice mysteriously disappearing, no Erasers have caught up to them, and the rest of the flock wants a break. Fang works on his blog, the younger children want a home, and Max wants this chip out. When the voice comes back telling Max that all the Erasers are dead and that her flock is next, Max knew she had to make sure the white coats could never find her again, which includes removing her chip. Going with Fangs, the two elder Flock members fight over whether it is their job to save the world. Fang wants to use his blog to empower the children of the world to stop the white coats and allow the younger flock members to have a real life. Where Max knows it is her burden to carry. As the weight of the world rests on her shoulders, Max recruits former friends and enemies on her side to stop Lexicon, and save the world.
Thoughts:
James Patterson concluded this first trilogy of Max’s story with a bang. Starting four days after the second book, Patterson keeps this novel fast and action pace. Unlike previous novels, Patterson gives you a recap of the previous stories, allowing new readers to join in book three, and allowing old readers to remember important key bits that they might not remember. Where this reminder is unnecessary, it was a nice way to really get back into the novel earlier on. Taken from the point of view of both Max and Fangs, we see a lot of their character development near the later half of the novel as each tries to be a leader for the Flock. As a whole, this is probably the most dysfunctional the Flock has ever been, which is a real downside considering it's the final book of this trilogy. Patterson really ramped up the drama in the Flock’s dynamics, especially between Fangs and Max where Patterson gives us both the love dynamic, and the power struggle dynamic. As said in the previous novel, there are questions as to why Max is their leader and not Fangs. Where Fangs was a pretty secondary character throughout the series, his character really comes out in this one, both in the way he loves Max and in his belief to keep the Flock safe. While it was hard to buy the romance angle, despite Patterson pushing it for three books now, I really enjoyed having Fangs with a bigger role in this novel and reading from his perspective some of the time. Max, as our main star, was similar to how she was in previous novels, giving her little character growth in this novel. Not that it's a bad thing, as Max is pretty funny, strong, and courageous, there was little Patterson could have done to make her better. The plot line of this novel flowed beautifully, with four parts and an epilogue to drive the story home, Patterson does an excellent job wrapping up most of the loose ends of the story, giving a dramatic finish and allowing the readers a choice to end their adventure with Max here, or continue on in the series.

Shit about Maximum Ride that I will never understand
- Why were the flock even made???
- Why did Max have to be the one with this grand destiny to save the world??? Why did Jeb look at all of the problems in the world and thought "you know what we need? bird kids."
- Why did Erasers have such short lifespans? And why did Ari have to look like a grown ass man at 7 years old, I mean I know it's because he's an Eraser, but why not just give them normal lifespans and have Ari be in his late teens or early twenties??? Why would Jeb put him through that??
- Also speaking of Jeb, why did he shift allegiances so often? I mean even Max commented on it??
- Why was Max confirmed to be half Latina only to be super pale and blonde in the manga??
- Why did the flock talk about how they were a family and family means all six members staying together but they split up multiple times.
- Why did they make a big deal that Fang is gonna die multiple times and "kill" him only to "miraculously" bring him back each time, like make up yours minds, is he gonna die or not??
- Angel going off the rails??? For a hot minute??
- The fact that Max, Fang, and Iggy all got somewhat normal sounding names but Nudge and the Gasman got the shit end of the stick.
- When Nudge suddenly no longer wanted wings and how that was just never addressed again.
- Ella and Dr. Martinez suddenly dying all the end and that never being mentioned again. - Also speaking of Martinez, why did she even donate an egg anyway, what did she think they were gonna do with it??
-That whole fucking subplot with Dylan, like what was his deal??? Anyways I hated him.
- The fact that Maximum Ride's name sounds like innuendo.

Did anyone read the Maximum Ride series? Those books were silly and at times corny, but they were also a lot of fun and had a great deal of heart.
Here is the “Flock.” I loved the idea of each kid having traits of different bird species. As well as bird-like traits other than wings - talons, neck ruffs, etc.
Max= red-tailed hawk
Iggy=golden eagle
Nudge=barred owl
Gazzy=barn owl
Fang=common raven
Angel=albino barn owl

My go to hc in normal hs aus as to why the flock hangs out with a six year old and an eight year old is that they’re Iggys siblings (either foster or bio)! He usually brings them along bc hes babysitting them and the rest of the flock sort of just adopted them :)

I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT
JEB/THE SCHOOL NAMED GAZZY GASMAN BECAUSE THE FIRST SOUND HE IMITATED WAS A GAS LEAK THAT MADE THEM EVACUTATE THE FLOCK TO THE MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE INFIRMARY.
