Possession is defined as ‘‘the belief that an individual has been entered by an alien spirit or other Para human force, which then controls that person and alters his action and identity. The word Jinn in Arabic (Alujonnu in Yoruba "borrowed from Arabic word JINN") refers to something that is (concealed and hidden from the human eyes ) in Al-Qaamoos Al’muheet ( which is the biggest Arabic dictionary of all times ) said this about the word ” JINN ” { Jannahu al-layla } which means ( the night covered him ) ( or concealed him) so this word simply means some being who is Hidden from the normal human eye. JINNS (demons or devils) are unseen creatures that are believed to exist in all major religions and have the power to possess humans and cause them harm. Jinn possession can manifest with a range of bizarre behaviors and unusual movements which could be interpreted as several different psychotic, non-psychotic mental disorders as well as feelings of the implant by foreign bodies or aliens. They do, common with humans, such as they also have the ability to, however, possess some characteristics in the ability to think and reflect. Similarly, choose between the path of good and the path of evil in the same manner as humans.
These are conscious beings, which are invisible, among the ordinary people they are known as ‘fairy’, ‘giant’, ‘genie’, ‘ghost’, ‘JINN’, ‘elf’, ‘aliens’ and various other names are given to them depending on the image they display. The people think that they are the SPIRITS of the dead people, so they try to establish contacts with them by calling them. Last but not least, these conscious beings introduce themselves as ’BEINGS FROM OUTER SPACE’ to those people whose level of knowledge is insufficient to be able to buy their stories. The JINN takes its existence, its liveliness, and its ‘self’ conscious from the absolute ‘SPIRIT’. With regards to the perfection it possesses within the consciousness, it is something that comes after the ‘HUMAN BEING’ in the whole universe. It is fully aware of its own consciousness only after it can enfold itself in the periphery (the body of light). This, in a way, can be considered as the birth of the JINNS concerning their structures.
Their death in the absolute sense takes place right at the moment of the doomed event, just like human beings. Their death in the simplest sense (i.e. the kind of death we know in general) takes place whenever their periphery (body of light) gets isolated from them at the end of their planned life span. The JINNS can understand the death of each other simply by finding out the loss of another jinni from their group. Even though their lifetimes are as long as the humans in reality, due to their structure and some properties they possess, this period could be as high as the age of 700-1000 when compared with us. In actual fact, when their life span of 60-70 years concerning their own unit of time is compared with our unit of time, we can see that it amounts to a life span of nearly 1000 years. Due to their structural behaviour, they also possess quite sophisticated potentials and some of them are even more superior to humans in terms of their conscious level. However, it is known for sure that the superior human being is much more superior to the most superior JINN. Concerning their character, they are weaker than humans. They are more inclined to display such behaviours, which can be considered as negative. In general, they deal with such activities. Despite this fact, there are also good ones among them as well as the ones who are more religious and even ones who are saints although this is very rare.
Their most significant characteristics and pleasure is to manipulate the weak points of the people, make individuals depend on them and make them do what they want, make them serve as well as worship them as if they were their servants.
So what are the ” Elemental Spirits “ ?
Elementals spirits are what some call the Nature Spirits or Devas or the Faeries . this type of Spirits have only one element to their nature usually Air, Fire, Water and Earth , so Djinns are part of the Fire Spirits.
Yes, the Spirits of the Four Elements are divided into four categories, earth, air, fire, and water. Let us look at each of them in turn.
1. EARTH: Earth spirits, that is the beings, which relate to rocks, stones, minerals, precious gems, hills, and mountains are traditionally called in English ( Gnomes ). All aspects of the solid physical structure of the planet come under their domain. Although they can be found within rocks, they also have the freedom to move around but generally stay close to the ground. They are a) Gnomes b) Kobolds c) giants d) mountain spirits, they are short about 1 to 2 feet tall and thy look old with full beard those are the Gnomes or the Ghulz, the other type are bigger and bit taller, most of them live underground, under the trees or on hilltops.
2. WATER: Water spirits are connected to all liquids, but their presence can be felt in a much more powerful way by streams, rivers, lakes, and, of course, the sea. They are traditionally known as Undines, they have males and females. but their females are shining as if wet, is female, nude and without wings, the exquisite limbs gleam through the white auric flow, the arms are particularly long and beautiful, and she waves them gracefully in her flight. She is about four feet in height and her general coloring is silvery-white, with gold stars around the head.
3. AIR: The spirits of the air are connected to all gaseous substances but like water, beings are best sensed in winds and breezes. Because air moves so quickly they can be difficult to pin down. They are known as Sylphs in tradition although the perception of a ‘fairy’ with tiny wings that can fly is a close approximation to how they appear to children.
These live in the element air and are like light in the atmosphere. Sensitive to the movement of the atmosphere, they have a sleepy consciousness. Their task is to transfer light to the plants. The stream of air caused by a flying bird creates a sound they can hear. They like birds flying through the air. Sylphs are connected to movement in space, like modeling and directing the wind. Elves (or fairies) are more connected to the expansion of life in their area.
4. FIRE: (these are what most people call the JINN ) Fire spirits can be found in volcanoes in nature but also in any fire, from candle to inferno. They are known as Salamanders or Vulcanii and are the most difficult of all of the elementals to connect with, being said to the only associate with philosophers and adepts of the magical arts.
Possession worldwide is found more commonly in women and marginalized groups and maybe a vehicle through which they can express their complaints in a context in which they can be heard. Spirit possession generally occurs in cultural contexts in which the self is more likely to be fragmented. Whether or not possession is itself seen as pathological is dependent on the cultural context in which it occurs; by no means are all cases of possession seen as signs of illness. Being possessed by demons or evil spirits is one of the oldest ways of accounting for bodily and mental disorders. The idea that spirit possession and mental illness are related has a long historical legacy.
Possessed individuals sometimes exhibit symptoms similar to those associated with mental illnesses such as psychosis, hysteria, mania, Tourette syndrome, epilepsy, schizophrenia, or dissociative identity disorder; this includes involuntary or uncensored behaviour. Since possession is not normative in Western cultures, it is the cultural context that determines the distinction between psychosis and the spiritual. Spirit possession is a culturally specific way of displaying symptoms of psychosis, dissociation, social anxiety, etc., and is a fairly global idiom of distress. That is, whereas a person with psychosis in the West may believe he is being controlled by a computer, a member of a community that beliefs in spirit possession may believe his body to be taken over by a demon.
How does JINN possess people?
1. Weak spiritual protection
2. Hexing and cursing
1. WEAK SPIRITUAL PROTECTION : The JINNS establish their connections especially with nervous women following the time they’ve given birth to a baby or during illnesses accompanied by high fever or during accidents. This is because during those periods, the brain is busy with the extra activity taking place in various parts of the body and therefore the human being simply cannot have control over the brain’s activity in a desired manner. As a result, the JINN takes over the control in the related part of the brain at that particular weak moment by becoming visible
to the person in whatever form he likes and force him/her to do whatever he desires.
Sometimes this act of forcing can take place by the impulses that the JINN sends to the part of the brain that is connected with the faculty of pain centre and making the individual feel that pain. At other times, by triggering the centre of fear, JINN could make the individual even more frightened so that the individual can do whatever they desire. Most probably, what is simply being carried out is that they send out light signals to a certain centre in the individual’s brain and therefore create the desired effect. Whenever the mediums go into a trance, they experience exactly the same situation. This is the reason why they are asked to relax and let themselves loose in the first place. Here, the objective is to decrease the control that the human being has over his
brain. In this way, the JINN desired to be contacted would be able to possess the individual more easily. In such connections, the women particularly say that the JINN becoming visible before their eyes appear as a very handsome man.
The JINNS who establish contacts openly with the women or the young girls usually marry them and have sexual intercourse with them. During these connections, the women see the JINN as a solid object and have a sexual contact with it as if it were a male from the human kind. However, as the JINN do not have a tangible solid physical body, then the following question comes to the minds.
How on earth the JINN who cannot even be transformed into a complete physical object can manage to satisfy a woman belonging to the human race during this connection?. Under such conditions, the JINN stimulate the part of sexuality centre in the brain of the woman involved and cause her to get satisfaction. As a matter of fact, all the scientists who work in the field of physiology know very well that when an electro shock is applied to a certain centre of the brain, it is possible to make that person do whatever you want. In fact, these are just the sort of contacts, which do not only take place between a woman from the human kind and a man from the class of JINNS. There can also be a sexual relation between a woman from the class of JINNS and a man from the humankind as well. Moreover, it is also said that the JINNS have homosexual contacts too. In all of these connections, the point which is usually discovered in common is that a member of the JINN makes a contact with a human being only for the purpose of fulfilling his selfish desires on the human being forcefully. In general, the people who have been forced into such positions do complain about this. These events take place without consent of the individual.
In such cases, especially when there is a connection between a woman from the human kind and a man from the class of JINNS, the woman isolates herself from the world outside and most of the time she wants to stay in a room.
2. HEXING AND CURSING: These are done by individuals who possesed power to manipulate or control JINNS to do whatever they want. In this case, the JINN is sent to forcefully ententer the body of the victim and do as it pleases. The victim will exhibit some of the symptoms listed below.
SYMPTOMS OF POSSESSION
1. Hearing voices
2. Erratic behaviour in one's words, deeds, and movement.
3. Being quick to get angry or weep with no apparent cause
4. Seeing metaphysical objects
5. Irregular menstruation in women
6. Constant headache
7. Frightening nightmares which include seeing various kinds of creatures such as ghosts, or apparitions, seeing oneself falling from a high place, seeing people in strange forms and snakes.
8. Insomnia, anxiety, and fear upon waking.
9. Talking loudly in one's sleep, or moaning and groaning.
10. Having sex in dreams.
All these symptoms still need to be examined by a professional or priest before establishing the fact that truly one is possessed by JINN through reading or divination.
Nowadays, the medical science cannot diagnose these cases and therefore they try to cure the patient by means of applying electro-shock for the sake of the positive science. However, in these cases too, hardly any result can be obtained. At the end of the electro-shock process, there is a disorder and an agitation in the brain cells of the individual causing a state of calmness. This of course does not mean that the person has been cured, it is because of the disturbance that she had due to the shock. Generally, it is seen that the people who have good healing powers can correct such situations by way of prayers, spells and ritual blown upon to the depressed person.

hi ardent!!! im here to be government kin assigned. you pretty much know most things about me by now, but i really love music and art! i also really like sports n science!! so, uh, a pretty wide variety of interests ghjklgh. i try hard to stay kind and optimistic, and i really care about my friends!!! ty for doin these, they seem so fun!!
-Cracks my knuckles- You didn’t specify so I’ll do all.
- A Pokemon team/type theme (+ fun facts abt your team!)
You’re a fairy-type user! Your main pokemon is Sylveon, though you also have a lil Togepi, Florges, Alcremie, Marill, and Ribombee!
Fun facts!
Your Sylveon evolved without you meaning it to! You were going to evolve it into a Vaporeon, but you befriended it so quickly that it evolved before you got the water stone!
Your Togepi likes to ride around in a little backpack you made specifically for it. It’s a huge sweetie, but it also a bit of a baby; it knows Fake Tears, so it often cries whenever it wants some attention.
Your Florges and Ribombee help you in your garden! Ribombee makes sure that all of the flowers are pollinated, and likes to help with watering them! Florges helped you plant all the flowers and how to place them beautifully, and now keeps a close eye on them for any signs of stress or illness - which, luckily, have never happened!
Your Alcremie was a gift from someone! It adores you with its whole heart, which can sometimes be a little messy; more than once it’s tried to jump into your arms, and you’ve ended up covered in sticky cream. Its sweet is a Heart, and its flavour is Mint!
Your Marill is a little different from the others. It’s a lot shyer, and tends to cling to your legs a little more. But it’s really good with kids!! It loves to go swimming with you in fresh water lakes.
- Bloodcaste/lusus/chumhandle as if you were a Homestuck troll (+lore)
You’re a bronzeblood with a Paradise Flycatcher lusus! Your chumhandle is amiableGaitey.
You live in a small house in a meadow far away from society, living a fairly simple - albeit hard - life. There’s a stream that you get most of your water from, and a clothesline that you dry your clothes from, and as soon as the sun sets, you lose all power. It’s... a bit of a pain, honestly, but you kind of like it! You eat the berries and fruits that grow in the orchard and bushes that surround your home, and sometimes you go foraging for nuts and mushrooms, but only if your lusus gives the go-ahead. You’re pretty sure a bunch of the plants near your home are deadly. You might have even made poison once? It’s kind of weird.
You spend a lot of your time outside, going for walks and picking flowers to put into scrapbooks. Sometimes you’ll take your camera with you, and take pics of all the cool plants that you have around your home! It’s fun to show your friends later, when they’re all online, and it encourages you to go out every day just a little further to see what new things you can find. You’ve even turned it into a bit of a game! So far, you’ve managed to follow your river all the way down to the cliff that it drops from, have climbed up it, and have gone racing through the woods above. The exercise is great! You love it maybe more than anything else, and you couldn’t imagine giving it up for anything in the world.
When you’re at home, you like to spend most of your time talking to your friends online. Your husktop is solar-powered, so you settle down in a nice sunny spot just outside your home and curl up against a big beancushion for hours until that itch to get going hits you again. Sometimes you draw - they’ve gotten you into drawing more and more frivolous things, things for you, things you might not have indulged in if they hadn’t encouraged you to - and sometimes you play games. Most of the time it’s just talking and having fun, though, and you love it! You’re pretty sure you’re all going to be friends for a very long time. You hope so, anyway.
Your lusus is pretty small. They’re kind of fae-like, if you’re honest, and they often warn you against going in mushroom circles or going too deep into the woods. They’re a supersticious little thing, really! But they make a great navigator when you’re out and about, and they warn you of oncoming trouble pretty quick, so you don’t mind having to do weird things like hop on the stepping stones of a river after saying a little thank you.
- Symbol/guardian/chumhandle as if you were a Homestuck kid (+lore)
Your symbol is a styalised bass clef that looks like a heart, and you live with your auntie! Your chumhandle is appreciativeGuitarist.
You and your auntie live in a tiny cottage at the foot of a mountain surrounded on all sides by a field of wildflowers. The kitchen doubles as a dining room, and your livingroom really only fits a small, old-fashioned tv and a sofa that’s a little too worn for wear at this point. But you have your own room! And you’ve got all your things in there, including your bike, which is kind of a pain to get in and out all the time, but you make it work. You have a small desk for your drawingpad and laptop, and a tiny bed you just about fit on, and it’s maybe a little small? But it’s also filled to the brim with clothes you love and stuffed toys you’ve collected over the years, so it’s pretty good, all things considered. Homey, more than anything.
You love to draw! You’ve really improved in the last few years, you think, and you’re getting more confident about posting your art again - so you draw, and draw, and you think maybe you’re starting to see what your friends have been telling you! You like to draw fantasy things, of yourself in different scenarios or just spending time with your friends, all of which you do on your drawing pad. It’s a pretty neat little thing to have, admittedly, though you don’t always get to save your art in the process unless you send it to yourself and save it on your phone - but it means that you’re more inclined to send your art to your friends, and you’re pretty sure they love seeing what you’ve made.
You love to go out and about, and your little space in nature gives you the perfect place to release all that pent up energy. There’s planty of beaten paths for you to follow, and a whole moutain for you to trek up if you want! You’ve gotten lost a few times, but that’s okay; the wifi signal is weirdly good up there, and it’s easy enough to figure out a way back down again before nightfall. It makes for a pretty good bike track, too, with plenty of dips and bumps that make your stomach flip whenever you go over them too fast.
You have a bunch of friends online! Actually, you have a bunch of people who just kind of flock to you for guidance and leadership, too? It’s a little weird, and it can be a bit intimidating, but you really like being able to help people, even if it means overwhelming yourself sometimes to be good at it. Your friends make it worth it, anyway. They make you laugh and make you feel better when you’re down - which doesn’t happen often, but sometimes it’s hard to keep smiling, and they remind you that that’s okay - and they make such wonderful things with you!! You love being able to talk to them, love spending time with them, and even love getting teased by them (which, you tease them back, of course).
You like to sit out in the field of flowers just as the sun starts to set, and the sky slowly turns from blue to orange. The wind rustles the flowers around you and curls your hair around your cheeks, and sometimes, you wonder if maybe you’re not alone.
- A FNAF animatronic design and name
You’re a sweet, pink and white boardercollie with lots of hearts in your design! Your eartips are curled over, your pupils and nose heart-shaped, and you have cute little toebeans on each paw. Your chest fur, paws, belly, and the underside of your tail are white, along with your muzzle and a stripe up to your forehead, but every other part of you is a beautiful pastel pink!
You’re designed to be a friend to any child who seems upset or let out at a party, to make them feel special and to bring them back into the fun or even just to spend the whole day with them!
You have a designated name - Collie - but you like to let the kids decide what to name you, too. It’s fun! And it helps to make them feel like you’re a Special Friend, so you often get trusted with their secrets - like if another kid is a bully, or if they’re maybe not too happy at home. You do your best to make their time at the pizzaria as fun and happy as possible to make up for all the bad things they have to deal with - and honestly, they love going to Freddy’s just to see you! It’s their favourite place in the whole wide world because they know you’re there.
(You also tend to send information back to the owners about anything worrying you’ve heard while out on the floor. This has saved a lot of kids. They’ve often come back in smiling brighter than you’ve ever seen them, and they haven’t needed you after that, but that’s okay. You know that’s for the best.)
- A BNHA Quirk and hero title
Your quirk is Uplift, which allows you to raise the spirits of any person who hears your voice! It doesn’t matter how down they are or how villainous they may be; as soon as they hear you, their hearts are filled with brightness and warmth. The downside to your quirk, unfortunately, is that it can be draining on you: sometimes you Uplift others so much, that your own mood starts to drop, and you start to get emotionally tired. When this happens, you just need a little company, warmth, and love to get you back to normal. Cuddlepuddles with blankets and hot chocolate ARE common after training.
Your hero title is The Inspiring Hero: Restoraise! You’re more of a support hero than a daylight one, and not very high on the charts, but that’s not what matters to you. What matters is keeping people calm and full of hope whenever you’re on the scene - be that upset civillains, trapped victims, or even hopeless villains. You refuse to let anyone down if there’s even a slim chance that everyone can be saved or redeemed!

The Falling Star
DeepWater  Prompts:  If you are hiding in the fae lands, you must never, never, never take off your mask, or even admit you are wearing one.
Cordelia ran. Her legs, unused to the land after so many years in the lake and its surrounding waters, tangled together, throwing her to the ground. Tree branches reached for her, tearing at her silken robes, and relentlessly carving into her arms and bared legs.  Her blood ran red down her limbs, rivers of a deception that had been uncovered. The earth, as dark as her skin and unforgiving, held her in place as it tried to drag her down into it's depths.
Forcing herself from it's grasp, Cordelia stumbled to her feet and ran.
The rain, once her friend, threatened to blind her as she panted. When it realised that its attempt was useless, it turned its attention to the earth beneath her. Working together, against her, the two managed to bring her to her knees yet again. The strings of her mask, already loose from her moment of weakness, snapped as she fell.
The delicate covering fell to the ground and broke apart, a parallel to the life that she was leaving behind. The life that she was leaving behind and had left behind, for the sake of her own.
The winds howled in her ears, around her head and at her back, disorienting her, filling her senses, panicking her as it chilled her to the bone, nipping at her like hounds at her feet. It brought the sound of the throng to her ears, panicking her further.
She tried to stand, but the earth held her tight, unwilling to release its prisoner. As she struggled, it opened it's mouth and released its residents.
Worms and centipedes and maggots crawled up from the softened soil and onto her body. They trailed over the broken pieces of her mask, crept in between her fingers, dragged their bellies through her wounds and slithered into her clothes and hair, disgusting her endlessly.
She hadn't even known that such vile creatures existed, in the Faerie.
Struggling, Cordelia freed one leg first, then the other. She didn't stop to throw the vile insects from her skin, despite how much she wished to do so. Instead, she ran.
As she fled, she looked up at the sky. Once blue and welcoming, it was now dark and tempestuous. The clouds hung low, and lower still. Lower than she'd ever seen them. She couldn't afford to dwell on this mystery, however. If she did, then the carrion birds that wove patterns in the tumult would be given the meal that they were eagerly anticipating.
Panting, Cordelia pushed on. Her long plaits thumped against her thighs and she pounded along rocky paths that had been lush with greenery when she'd first arrived. But now, as the path slowly narrowed and she neared the narrow bridge that would lead her to safety, they were bare, and rife with swarms of writhing worms and snakes. Large spiders lurked at the edges of the road, a silent promise of what would befall her, should she try to seek respite in between the inexorable trees.
Cordelia shuddered, and pressed herself even harder, desperately hoping to arrive at the bridge soon. The bridge, which crossed over a deep chasm, would make her flight much easier. Carved by nature, the bridge was made entirely from stone, and offered no hiding places for the insects on the path. It also promised a swift death for even the fae, should they dare to cross it too hurriedly. It would protect her, even against its own desires.
As she neared the bridge, Cordelia looked up, and screamed.
The clouds were hanging close to her head now, and were lowering their faces even more. They were aiming to cloud her path and make her lose her way upon the bridge, she realised. And to lose her way upon the cold, wet stone of the bridge would spell certain doom for her.
She couldn't afford that. Not now, when she was so close to the end.
Stumbling a little, she threw herself forward, and onto the bridge. Her feet threatened to slide over the edges of the bridge as she ran. She could feel the stone's discontentment as she hurriedly stepped on its many faces in her bid to cross. But, unable to thwart her on its own, it had no choice but to let her pass.
The clouds, finally low enough, covered the path, and Cordelia slipped. Her hands scrabbled to find purchase on the slick stones as she went over. Finding none, she closed her eyes and resigned herself to her fate.
She never should have allowed him to remove her mask. Admitting to him that she wore one, had been a big enough risk to take. But she'd been foolish enough to allow him to see her face beneath. And now, look what her actions had cost her; she'd been chased out of the place where she'd sought refuge from her home, and had been cast off by the very land that she'd worked so hard to become one with. And her lover, the one who'd promised her the stars and the moon, had abandoned her.
Tears rising as she fell, Cordelia opened her eyes and her arms, hoping to be allowed to see the sky that had welcomed her, and to embrace the waters that had cradled her, for the last time.
The sight that met her however, was not a blue sky, nor even an overcast one. The sight that met her was one of falling rocks, showering down from the bridge as a large root ripped through it. Of lateral roots being produced at an alarming rate and scale. Of one of those roots reaching for her, menacingly quickly.
Smiling, Cordelia stretched her arms out in front of her, offering her embrace to the root.
It wrapped around her body gently, abruptly stopping her fall. Her back threatened to break, but the root, already used to this type of play, begrudgingly spread its thick hairs across her back and the back of her neck, saving her from further harm. Once she was secured, the root lifted her, bearing her up, to the other side of the land.
Once she was safely on the on the ground, Cordelia looked back, chest swelling with solace. Through the dissipating cloud cover, she could see fae lights floating, searching, angry. She heaved a sigh of relief, and turned to the one that had saved her.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, and cradled her head in the crook of his shoulder. He returned her embrace, sighing into her hair. She could feel his feet beneath her, slowly becoming warm and smooth as he rescinded his powers, severing his connection with the nature.
"I thought you that you would not come," she admitted. It grieved her to say it, but she had doubted her love. Had doubted his love. She felt him shift.
"I did too," he conceded, after a few moments in silence. One of his hands moved to toy with her hair, and he sighed again. "I apologise. Tis my fault that you were found out."
Cordelia smiled, and raised her head to look at him. Her smile faded as she took in his face. The cut above his brow that bled blue, running lines down his beautiful face. Bruises that hid in the brown of his skin shyly blossoming, the longer she looked. One of his beautiful green eyes was hidden, concealed within the swell of the surrounding skin.
She winced.
The fae weren't fond of wanton violence. But once they were inclined to it, they were ruthless animals.
"My precious Abungu," Cordelia cooed, placing her hands on his face, "what did they do to you, my love?"
Abungu looked away. "Tis not safe for you here now, my light," he murmured. He took her hands in his as he began to walk away. "I've blocked all the paths leading here, but they'll not last. Especially once your secret gets out."
He led her to an old tree, surrounded by brambles. As they neared, the brambles parted, revealing a knot of swirling stars in it's trunk. The grass around the base stretched towards them as they neared, and clung to them as they passed.
A body, pinned to the ground by a root through its heart, was revealed briefly as they passed. Cordelia tried not to look at the bright blue blood on the chest of the woman that she once thought of as a friend.
Instead, she looked at the back of her lover. She kept her eyes on his back as they neared the trees, brushing their way through grass that had been stained blue with the blood of the fallen fae.
Her every step felt like leaden weights were tied around her ankles.
She'd come through here, once, a long time ago, when hounds had actually nipped at her heels. When stones and arrows had chased her until well into the night, each one trailed by a curse against her and her name.
She stood, atop the body of an unknown fae. "I can't go back by myself, love. They'd kill me."
Abungu stopped his procession, and looked back at her. "You'll be dead by the morrow, if you stay," he warned. His green eyes glowed bright, worry burning brightly within their depths.
"So will you; they'll have branded you a traitor!"
Abungu stared at her, and Cordelia stared back at him. Slowly, he raised his arm, and flowering vines twined around it. As she watched, they darkened, becoming hard wood. Her love smiled, and struck his arm with a spear that he'd ripped from a body beneath him. The spear shattered, leaving her love unscarred.
"I can fend for myself, my light."
Cordelia frowned, and touched her hand to his forehead, which still bled. "The hardest tree can be worn down with time," she pleaded. "Come with me, please love!" She began walking again, tugging him along this time.
As they stepped through the portal, Cordelia caught sight of the spear, heading straight for them.

They say that the state of Montana is the last great frontier, however Montana is more, it is a terrific area that is loaded with a lot to do yet provides several locations that are off the beaten path. Montana not only has numerous advantages to those who see on an annual basis, yet it also has several benefits to those that live there on a permanent basis.
Here are a few of the big advantages that living in Montana brings:
• No Sales Tax obligation: That's right; invest away if you reside in Montana because the sales tax there is a whopping 0%. That indicates more cash in your pocket as well as less that you need to provide to old Uncle Sam. Don't really feel bad though, he constantly seems to get his fair share.
• Summer Tasks: Montana is home to component of the Rocky Hills as well as in the summer time there is no much better area to be. Mountain cycling, backpacking, as well as angling are all part of what the Mountain ranges have to provide its locals every single year. When you make a decision to take a trip there, part of Yellowstone National Park is additionally in Montana as well as you can appreciate warm springtimes and even more fishing.
• Fishing: In situation you missed it from the last pair of factors, Montana is known globally for its excellent angling. Fly fishing is specifically prominent in the great state and lots of fishermens who simply can't get sufficient of the remarkable catches that Montana has to provide wind up locating themselves as long-term residents before too lengthy.
• Winter months Activates: When it obtains cold out and the white powder starts to fall, the state of Montana develops into one of the very best put on Planet to be for skiing. The state boasts several ski resorts as well as some world class inclines making the state the ideal domestic haven for miraculous ski fanatic.
• Obtain Away from the Group: Among the best features of living in Montana is the fact that you can be near to all the activity, yet still not remain in the thick of it in all times. Due to the fact that Montana still Great post to read has numerous smaller sized communities and also cities that have actually remained little in populace over the years, that is. However, simply since they are tiny, does not imply that they are out in the boon-docks either. Most of Montana's smaller neighborhoods are situated simply miles outside of the larger and also a lot more populous locations such as Billings. This offers the ideal scenario for someone who wishes to stay in private, but still be close sufficient to enter into the fray of points when they desire to.
Montana might be the last wonderful frontier, however if you enjoy the outdoors and appreciate peaceful living with action simply around the bend, after that this state might be for you. While a check out there will offer you a taste of what the state needs to offer, just living there There have actually been films made as well as publications discussed the fishing opportunities in the terrific state of Montana. Many of the flicks and books about the subject of angling in the state of Montana seem to focus on a particular type of fishing. The sort of angling that involves waving a flea to and fro is the air for fairly awhile in an effort to get trout to attack, and also this simply isn't fair. Montana provides all kinds of fishing for trout and various other varieties and also a flea connected to a 2X tippet isn't the only sort of angling that individuals carry out in Montana. Montana has angling opportunities for all anglers, no matter what kind of fishing you like.
Montana has over 59,000 miles of moving streams as well as rivers, and numerous hundreds of acres of ponds, storage tanks and also lakes. These are house to greater than 90 varieties of fish, of which 56 are indigenous varieties. With every one of this water and also that various sorts of fish, there is undoubtedly something for each angler to delight in, not simply those that prefer fishing with feathers and also a holier than thou mindset.
A wonderful technique for capturing trout as well as various other fish in Montana's rivers is a set of gang hooks. A collection of gang hooks is the finest way to present online lure (particularly worms) and they are completely lawful in the state. Inspect neighborhood policy though, since several on Montana's streams as well as rivers are fabricated appeals just thanks to those plume caring flea flickers. Where live bait is able to be utilized, as God planned I may add, gang hooks are most definitely the method to go.
Another sort of angling that has actually become fairly popular in Montana, is excellent old Largemouth Bass angling. There are some fairly good largemouth bass fisheries within Montana, although with the expanding season being so short the fishes dimension doesn't compare to it's cousins in warmer environments. Although I make enjoyable of it, trout angling probably is the most significant draw that Montana has as for types or fish go., as well as with Montana being such a remote location, a bear experience is never inconceivable. There's absolutely nothing that can wake a fishermen up on a dazed early morning like an experience with a bear ... I promise you that!
The bottom line is that as for angling is worried, Montana has whatever to use, and if you remain in the market for huge native trout, Montana is possibly tough to defeat. Whether you're a flea flicker or a spin fisherman, Montana can accommodate most everybody. Earlier I alluded to our 4 legged close friends of Winnie the Pooh. Remember in some remote areas of Montana there are bears as well as lugging a can of bear spray with you while angling is never a poor concept. Much better risk-free than sorry, ideal?
The other fantastic thing that Montana has to offer the fishermen is her natural elegance. A lot of the areas that you hang around angling in within the state of Montana provide landscapes that possibly can't be beat anywhere in the globe. Montana really is an outdoors paradise, and also include the remarkable fishing possibilities and you have actually got something truly special. will certainly show you real possibility as well as all the advantages that Montana provides its homeowners each day.

Due to the fact that Montana still has numerous smaller towns and cities that have actually continued to be small in populace over the years, that is. Simply due to the fact that they are tiny, does not mean that they are out in the boon-docks either. A number of Montana's smaller sized communities are situated just miles beyond the larger and also more populous locations such as Invoicings. This offers the excellent scenario for a person that intends to live in exclusive, however still be close sufficient to enter into the battle royal of points when they wish to.
Montana may be the last terrific frontier, however if you enjoy the outdoors and also take pleasure in tranquil living with activity simply around the corner, then this state might be for you. While a visit there will provide you a preference of what the state needs to provide, only living there Montana is overwhelmed with impressive locations to witness the elegance of nature and also it's wild animals. With many hills, rivers, lakes as well as forests that appear to have no end, it's not surprising that Montana has a better variety of wild animals compared to any type of various other state in the lower 48. The entire state is a natural animal protect. As preferred as it is for individuals who are drawn to nature to want to look for these amazing places, there really isn't much information out there to assist you find the most effective places to go to. If you want to see large quantities of varied types in one area, the average individual would certainly advise to see the zoo.
I would certainly suggest either going to Glacier National Park or Yellowstone National Park if you are visiting or live in Montana. I would certainly also recommend not to forget your video camera! A blunder I have often made and constantly was sorry for! In Glacier you will see mainly elk, moose, deer, hill goats, bighorn sheep as well as grizzly or also black bears. Yellowstone is extremely diverse, in the truth that there is method way too many animals to list. The even more commonly seen are elk, grizzly bears, bison, wolves and even trumpeter swans! Another wonderful way to witness Montana's wildlife is to see one of 51 wild animals havens! Visiting a haven you have the possibility to check out animals in their natural surroundings, unlike checking out a zoo which often can be depressing. Refuges normally use numerous chances for magnificent photography, instructional chances or excursions (wonderful for kids!), outdoor tasks and also sometimes also camping!
Another chance you can take benefit of is going to a wild animals. There are a few of these in Montana which take care of animals which can no more go back to the wild. Similar to the idea of a zoo, nonetheless you will locate that the animals have about triple the space and are not truly "constrained". There is a Wolf Refuge concerning 16 miles from Missoula called "The Wolfkeep". They have a total of 10 wolves in a 10 acre enclosure, providing them maximum room to live freely. These of program are just several of the numerous fulfilling wildlife possibilities, a short checklist can quickly develop into a book. Montana teems with interesting locations to see and also brand-new experiences to endeavor, whether it is outdoors in the wild or inside with household and also good friends! will certainly reveal you truth capacity as well as all the benefits that Montana offers its homeowners daily.

Nagas
Tumblr media
Species: Nāga (masculine), nāgiṇī (feminine)
Definition & Appropriation Issues: Nāga and nāgiṇī (henceforth referred to as “naga” for convenience) are a specific species of spirits mentioned initially in Indian mythology as well as Hinduism and Buddhism. In pop culture and fantasy, the term naga has been used to describe any magical creature that is serpentine, often conflated with lamiai. However, naga is a Sanskirt word that really refers to the specific spirit species mentioned in this post. Calling any other type of spirit - even if they are part snake or look similar to nagas - a “naga” or “nagini” is not only inaccurate but appropriative of Indian culture and Dharmic religions. I recommend calling such spirits “serpentine” or “ophidian” instead since both of these terms are non-culturally specific ways of saying “snake-related.”
Species Classification: Sidi, ophidian, deva, nature spirit, *dragon (?)
It is without a doubt that the naga are nature spirits. They inhabit natural environments, typically watery ones, and they are widely known to have power over rainfall, storms, natural disasters, and fertility.
Based on my personal experiences having worked with many fae and several naga, I consider naga to be a species of water sidi spirits for the following reasons...
Naga have extremely long lifespans that may as well be “immortal” from a human perspective
They are considered very wise and knowledgeable
They are nature spirits and very closely tied to nature
They inhabit certain natural environments on Earth but also reside in the astral realms of Patala and Cāturmahārājikakāyika (the latter of which I believe to be a sidi realm)
They are regarded as having magical powers and being of a magical nature (talented particularly at illusion magic)
Some naga live in a collective society ruled by a monarch (King Virupaksha) that bears resemblance to a fae court
When I have been around naga spirits, they radiate sidi energy (UPG)
Asking nagas if they identify as sidi, I received affirmative answers (UPG)
*In mythological lore, the term naga is sometimes translated into English as “dragon” or used interchangeably with other Asian language words for dragon, but I suspect that any “nagas” depicted more like Asian dragons than cobra snakes may be a conflation of two different interrelated species (as the word nāga itself means cobra). Sometimes serpents are classified under the broader category of “dragons,” and since some nagas also guard treasures and live in caves, it is understandable why they are associated with dragons.
Locations: India, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Philippines (as spirits in physical world), Cāturmahārājikakāyika - “The World of the Four Heavenly Kings” (in the Sumeru realms), Patala (also known as Nagaloka, the underground realms of the naga and asuras)
Habitat: Natural bodies of water (mostly rivers, lakes, springs, and the ocean), sometimes wells, caves (such as the underground caverns of Patala), forests (including the forests of Cāturmahārājikakāyika on Mt. Sumeru)
Personality: Secretive, protective of their natural environments as well as physical or wisdom treasures they may possess, chaotic neutral, not all but many follow the Buddhist dharma, many are great warriors
Appearance: The naga’s base form is a great hooded cobra snake (with no human features or parts whatsoever), and most sources mention them appearing either with one or multiple heads. Many nagas also have the ability to shift into a completely human form (passable as a regular human), partial human form (i.e. “half” human, “half” cobra), or human form with multiple snake heads attached. I have seen both single-headed and multi-headed naga in their base forms as well as shifting into all the mentioned variations of humanoid forms.
Society & Government: The forests at the base of Mt. Sumeru is the astral realm of Cāturmahārājikakāyika, which means “the World of the Four Heavenly Kings.” These “heavenly” kings are lokapalas, a type of Buddhist deity called devas who are tasked with guarding the four directions of the universe according to the Buddhist dharma. The kings also rule over four different spirit species in Cāturmahārājikakāyika: nagas, kumbhāṇḍas, gandharvas, and yakṣas. Not all, but a vast number of nagas are members of King Virūpākṣa’s “court,” or monarchically ruled society. These nagas are all followers of Buddhist dharma and work together to protect Mt. Sumeru from asura attacks as well as influence and assist the lives of human beings.
There are also “wild” nagas who do not serve King Virūpākṣa and live alone or in small groups. I do not know much of the Patala realm where there is also a large naga population, but there are so many legends of many great naga kings that I suspect there are other societies and monarchies among the naga beyond Virūpākṣa’s domain in Cāturmahārājikakāyika.
Behavior: Nagas who serve King Virūpākṣa are either a part of his army protecting Mt. Sumeru or live peacefully in Cāturmahārājikakāyika. Humans would likely be safe encountering them because as followers and protectors of the Buddhist dharma, they practice compassion towards all living beings. They are also sworn to protect and look after Buddhist humans.
Wild nagas are more dangerous and may be inclined to harm humans or help them depending on how they treat them and their natural homes. In some places, nagas are worshipped as minor local nature deities and given offerings in exchange for helping with women’s fertility or good weather for farming. Nagas are often blamed for natural disasters and disease when they don’t receive proper treatment and care for the environment.
I do not know enough about the nagas of Patala or other places to speak for how they behave, but there are many legends that speak of cave-dwelling nagas and the nagas of Patala guarding treasures, especially spiritual treasures. If discovered, these nagas might be willing to share wisdom with those they deem worthy, but may also be fiercely protective of that which they protect.
Buddhism: Nagas appear in both Hindu and Buddhist mythology, but here I will touch on a few examples of the naga’s special role and status within Buddhism. In the Maha-samaya Sutta of the Pali Sutta-pitaka, Shakyamuni Buddha protected nagas from an attack by their nemesis spirit species, the garuda. Afterwards, in gratitude, both garudas and nagas were said to take refuge in the Buddha, becoming Buddhists. There is a famous story of a naga who in human-passing form asked to join Shakyamuni’s monastic order.
In the Muccalinda Sutta (Khuddaka Nikaya, Udana 2.1), the Buddha was sitting in deep meditation as a storm approached. A naga king named Muccalinda spread his great cobra hood over the Buddha to shelter him from the rain and cold. In the Himavanta Sutta and Lotus Sutra, nagas are used as parables or examples. There is even a legend that the Prajnaparamita Sutra was given to Shakyamuni Buddha (and later to the philosopher Nagarjuna) by nagas, protectors of scripture as wisdom treasure.

Spirit Worker Experiences
In early August 2017, I was in a new age shop browsing the wares. There was a shelf of Buddhist statues and a fountain tinkling with water next to it. Much to my surprise, there was a cobra chilling in the fountain. Mod Fire mentioned nagas before I encountered this entity so I chatted to it out of curiosity if it was a naga or not.
It asked if I was a seeker of the dharma and I said no. I mentioned being annoyed at the appropriation in the new age store but the naga viewed it as another outlet for those seeking the path. The entity claimed it was born in India but their family has a home in King Virūpākṣa ‘s court. They seemed suprised I knew about his name.
The fountain cobra viewed it as their duty to help guide people into Buddhism after it spread throughout the world.
I was IMing Mod Fire during this encounter, to verify if it was a naga, since I’m not Buddhist and not familiar with these entities.
- Mod Water
I am a Vajrayana Buddhist, and I met nagas for the first time after I petitioned King Virūpākṣa to be able to follow and serve him alongside his nagas. With permission granted, I was able to astral travel to Mt. Sumeru and spent time in Cāturmahārājikakāyika meeting naginis in the king’s service.
They shift into different forms - from partially humanoid to completely serpent cobra - depending on what seems most comfortable or convenient to them at the time. Nagas and naginis (males and females) of the king’s army sleep in different spaces from each other. Due to the gender separation, I’ve mostly only met naginis rather than nagas. They exude sidi energy and are sidi, but also feel some sense of kinship with other ophidian beings like lamiai. I am still learning about nagas and hope to continue writing more about them soon.

Desire to be welcomed with spectacular scenes is just all-natural, and also one apparent choice to head to would certainly be any place in the nation of the Himalayas. One such nation is Nepal, referred to as a traveler's (particularly a trekkers') paradise, situated on the lap of the marvelous Himalayas!
There are numerous unique as well as amazing alternatives for trekking in Nepal, one of which is slowly yet gradually garnering much interest in the last few years - Makalu Base Camp Trek.
Makalu Barun Valley in Nepal is one such place that has its very own attraction that makes it distinct from other areas in the nation. For this uniqueness, many trekkers as well as adventure-seekers lace up their trekking boots every season.
Well, where do I begin with the trek that is rapidly being popular as the new Annapurna Circuit Trek !? Let's simply start from the basics.
MT. MAKALU Mt. Makalu, the 5th highest mountain on the planet is located in eastern Nepal. It is just one of the 8-thousanders that lie on the Khumbu area, where the world's highest possible - Everest, likewise lies.
It's an independent top standing peak at 8463m. The peak prompt to Makalu are Kangchungtse (Makalu II - 7640m) as well as Chomo Lonzo (7804m).
Mt. Makalu obtained its name from the Hindu god Maha Kala in Sanskrit, which is among the types of Lord Shiva, the destroyer. Maha Kala indicates 'Big Black' and also hence, Makalu is referred as 'The Great Black' for its unique huge black rock face.
This mountain is rather difficult to climb up and requires mountaineering knowledge. Makalu was successfully climbed up in 1955 AD by Lionel Terray and Jean Couzy of a French trek group.
MAKALU BASE CAMP TREK Makalu Base Camp trek, as the name suggests, is a trip to the base camp of the 5th highest point in the world - Mt. Makalu. It takes travelers at the foot of this mountain and also travels through one of one of the most wonderful landscapes in the world.
October - November and March - May is a good time to choose the trip. The base camp lies near the relaxing lake of Barun Pokhari at 4950m. The trek to base camp and back can be completed in around 18 days.
The highest altitude on this trek is 5250m, with a viewpoint on the reduced inclines of Peak 3 (6477m) near Shersong (4660m).
This trek starts and finishes at Tumlingtar, going through a number of places on the trail as Chichila, Num, Sedua, Tashigaon, Khongma, Mumbuk, Yangle Kharka, Merek, Shersong and also Khandbari.
There are rigorous regulations and policies that are there to safeguard and also conserve both the natural surroundings and also the distinct culture of the area, which the trekkers require to comply with. One of the regulations is to only camp at designated outdoor camping sites for the trek.
On the trek, there are 3 passes - Ghungru La (4050m), Shipton La (4216m) as well as Keke La (4150m) en route from Khongma to Mumbuk. While going across these passes, travelers reach witness wonderful sights of the Mountain range, which is also the reason that trekking in Nepal is so well-loved.
It has astounding views of Makalu, Chhamlang (7319m), Baruntse (7220m), Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8501m), Peak 3 (6477m), Peak 4 (6720m), Peak 5 (6404m), Peak 6 (6739m), Peak 7 (6105m) as well as Hong Chuli (6833m).
Although in recent times, tea-houses and lodges have emerged along the path, the Makalu Base Camp trek is finest experienced as a camping trek. Nonetheless, these establishments give very basic requirements in terms of food and accommodations. So, trekkers require to harsh it up when stopping in these tea-houses that are few and far between throughout the route.
Do not hold any type of assumption on these lodges to provide elegant centers, like that of Everest as well as Annapurna tea-houses with warm showers, chocolate pies as well as what not. This trek tosses all personal comfort out the window!
So, it's ideal that travelers are self-sufficient to challenge the harsh terrain as well as unforeseeable climate condition. Trekkers need to be prepared with the attitude of being safe as opposed to sorry on this specific trek.
Makalu Base Camp trek walks around among one of the most remote parts of the nation, right into the huge wild, so, there has to be at the very least 2 trekkers venturing out in this land, at a provided time.
This trek is certainly for the extra experienced as well as sturdy trekkers that can adjust to any type of kind of setting without any issues, especially concerning how its facilities are not such as that of Everest or Annapurna, and that can appreciate the standard lodges or perhaps the lack thereof.
MAKALU BARUN NATIONAL PARK AND ALSO CONSERVATION AREA Makalu Base Camp trek lies on the Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Area. This national park is in Sankhuwasabha and Solukhumbu districts with an area of 1500 sq. kilometres. in eastern Nepal.
The land is including wildlife such as Lynx, Snow Leopard, Blue Lamb, Swine, Red Panda, Musk Deer, Barking Deer, Flying Squirrel, Jackal, Clouded Leopard, Deep-blue Kingfisher, Blue-naped Pitta, Eagles, Raptors, White-naked Stork and a lot more.
The trek makes its way through the Himalayan glacier valley of Makalu Barun. The Barun River Valley is covered in lavish green woodlands with vivid rhododendron blossoms as well as rejuvenating waterfalls. The landscape significantly transforms to alpine meadows and barren land of rocks as well as gravel as you move further up north on the trail.
The area is just as abundant and diverse in culture with individuals from different sects like Sherpa, Rai, Gurung, Limbu and also a lot more calling it residence.
Despite the fact that there are tea-houses and also other modern-day facilities emerging on the Makalu Base Camp trek, it still holds a high place for daring trekking in Nepal. So, strap on those trekking boots for this season of travelling in the Mountain ranges!

Medieval Fantasy-based Characters
                                                      ----------
Sharn
Female Orc -- Mother: Silge, Father: Kharzug --
Sharn's tribe hails from the desolate northern mountains, where nothing much grows. They make their home on the face of the mountains, lacking the skill or inclination to dig into it, favouring the use of natural plateaus and caverns to build winding pathways up the side of the mountain face, dotted with simple hide and bone huts, and larger Halls where many are meant to meet. Despite their simple, and almost primitive buildings, the mountain side is dotted with elaborately crafted flame pyres. Made from stone and wood, they prominently features large cut boulders of a glowing red rock centerpiece that is thought to contain the essence of fire, which is central to their beliefs and worship.
Fire is the absolute centre of their belief system, not worshipped as a deity however, but rather a primal force of nature that birthed all and will one day consume all once more. In the tribe, fire is seen as a source of life and death, the mystics believing all orcs come from fire and will eventually return to it, that the path to the afterlife is a long walk on a bed of coals to test the worth of those who have died, and at the end they are granted rest in flames, or burned 'alive' for eternity if they are found wanting. Also, a large part of the shaman's skill is based around scrying and divination of ashes -specifically ashes of burnt objects that were important/precious to the person they are scrying for, as the more important/significant an object is emotionally to someone, the more 'spirit' it carries with it.
Given the large percentage of Shamans and Mystics in her tribe (about 80% to a 20% warrior-type) they have gradually bred themselves into a smaller than average stature for orcs, the tallest being just under seven feet, with this almost as an anomaly. Sharn's an 'average' height for her tribe, which is just over 6 feet tall. The 'warriors' of the tribe are more physical and strong, but as well are more sleight in size than most other orcish tribes, and thus their combat style relies more on agility and small amounts of shamanistic magic than brute force alone.
                                                               --~--
Mer
Half Water Nymph -- Mother: Lula, Father: Unknown --
Born to a Water Nymph mother and a human father, Mer took after her mother genetically, turning out more Nymph than human. Unlike most water Nymphs she can leave her lake for extended periods of time so long as she is able to have access to some body of water in the meantime -anything from rivers to bathing basins, as she has the tendency to 'dry out' when out of water for more than a day or so and becomes incredibly weak with symptoms similar to a high fever.
In her youth she was given to her Lake to live in and guard it with the assistance and company of her 'pet', whom she simply refers to as Pet. Few have seen it as it dwells mainly at the bottom-most parts of the lake, but it has been described as massive, many-tentacled and horrible to behold. Mer treats it like a large dog and they get along just fine.
She doesn't get along well with the nearest village (only a mile or two away from the lake) because of her tendency to seduce the menfolk who travel over the bridge or too near the shore. Though she takes nothing but small amounts of food and large amounts of 'time with the men', adventurers and swords for hire have been sent to dispatch her on a few exciting occasions. The first was drowned and consumed by her Pet, the second was a pair of adventurers who, after seeing that the Horrible Lake Beast was not much more than a mischievous Nymph, befriended her and occasionally call on her help for adventures.
                                                            --~--
Zin Sato
Human mage -- Family unknown
Zin is an extremely private woman who works as a mercenary with her adventuring companion, the half-Orc Erlend. She and Erlend had been hired to Kill Mer before they realized she was a harmless water nymph, and have since added Mer to their adventuring party for the occasional excursion -much to Zin’s displeasure.
They do not get along.
Very little is known about her past or origins, but most are content with knowing that she is able to wield the Arcane Arts with an impressive amount of ease and skill.
                                                           --~--
Lord Drevelas
Human, necromancer -- Family unknown or deceased
As a young man, Drevelas studied at an illustrious magical academy, and though his time at the academy was enlightening, he left before completing his studies under mysterious circumstances. Some say he ran away with a woman he was seeing, other darker rumors say he killed her and left to his Family’s estate before he could be prosecuted. The mystery of it lead to more rumors, and rumors eventually turned him into a myth of sorts. People living in the areas surrounding his family’s estate began to consider him a mysterious recluse, and told children boogeyman tales of him, warning that he had fallen victim to the dark arts and practiced the forbidden craft of Necromancy.
The estate gradually fell into ruin, and most people assumed his family had died or abandoned it, but the lands were tainted by a blight, turning the once beautiful grounds to a twisted graveyard of dried, dead plants and fungus.
For years the estate has lain silent, but lately rumours have begun to circulate again, of a cloaked rider coming and going in the night hours, often alone, but some swear they’ve seen the rider accompanied by footmen, or even another rider in the saddle with him.

The Top Things to Do in Oita, Japan
Japan is well known for its capital city, Tokyo and for Kyoto and Osaka yet it has many hidden gems that will surprise and delight visitors. One such gem is the island of Kyushu and the region of Oita Prefecture. With the most natural hot springs in Japan and stunning mountain ranges, there are some great things to do in Oita.
From Tokyo it’s only a 1 and a half hour flight to Oita. We flew with ANA from Haneda Airport, which has the advantage of being close to Tokyo centre. They give you complimentary soft drinks on board and we bought a soraben bento box at the airport. They’re a special type of bento, available for takeaway at airports and beautifully packaged. There was a fantastic selection of ready made boxes at reasonable prices.
Oita airport is very compact so it only took a few minutes to collect my checked in bag and to exit. Oita Prefecture will be hosting several of the Rugby World Cup matches at the next Olympic Games in 2019, which will no doubt put this hidden gem firmly on the map. Oita Prefecture’s slogan is Japan’s best hot spring hot spot as it has 4,381 hot springs, together with the largest annual yield of hot spring water.
Nakatsu
Our first destination was Nakatsu City which has a distinctive 8 arched bridge.
Close by, Farmer’s Restaurant Domon Patio is a perfect choice for lunch. It’s run by local women who have prepared delicious local dishes. Try the vegetable juice drink which was so tasty that I had 3 glasses! The dishes are all laid out buffet style and there’s an extensive choice. The cooks smiled and said goodbye to us as we left.
After lunch we visited a traditional Japanese house, with it’s cosy kotatsu mattress table which has a heat source underneath and keeps your feet warm. There was also a koto, a musical instrument that the daughter of the house played.
Our next port of call was Ao-no-domon Cycling Center. It’s popular with locals and tourists alike, who come to enjoy the Maple Yaba Cycling Road in Nakatsu-Yabakei Gorge. This 35 km track is reserved is built on an old rail track, reserved for bikes only and passes by scenic spots such as Yabakei Bridge. There are three places from which to rent bikes including Yabakei Cycling Terminal. It has a variety of bikes to choose from including all-terrain cycles and even a tandem. My bike was great fun to ride, with low handlebars and a comfy padded leather seat. Thankfully there were plenty of gears to help tackle any inclines. Having said that, the route we cycled was fairly pain free. As it was raining hard, we only did about 15 minutes. For those who prefer to avoid any hills, you can cycle down one way and get a driver to pick you up at the other end rather than doing a loop. I’d definitely recommend this cycle ride to all nature lovers and those keen on sport.
After this we headed to Yabakei Dam Memorial Gardens in Keisekien. These traditional Japanese gardens were made into a park when the nearby dam was constructed. There are some huge koi carp in the little lake and the moss growing there is particularly rare – some people visit the gardens just to see it.
Mameda
From here we travelled on to the area of Hita and Mameda Town, known for its old merchant houses. The town was governed by the Tokugawa Shoguns in the Edo era from 1603 to 1867 and now has heritage status. There are some interesting places to visit such as Kuncho Sake Brewery Museum, where you can find out more about traditional sake manufacturing, taste a range of superb sakes and purchase them in the shop.
To the rear, there’s the Tenryo Hina Dolls Museum, that showcases over 3,000 handmade antique dolls.
There’s also an interesting little design shop that sells handcrafted wooden and paper items, Hita Sugi Project. Less than 10 minutes drive away you’ll find Hina-no-Sato SANYOUKAN. This hotel is clean and centrally located, with the advantage of having its own onsen. The hot spring water is channelled and used for hot bath facilities. This onsen, located on the 3rd floor of the hotel, has a nice river view. Men use one side and women use the other, as nude bathing is the usual practice. I was surprised at how hot the water is but you get used to it quickly and it’s very pleasant. The water has purported medicinal benefits and considered to be good for aches and pains. Guests have the opportunity to sleep in Western rooms or traditional Japanese style, which was fun to try and surprisingly comfortable. Breakfast at the onsen was served in private rooms bordering the buffet. In each of these, a bento box full of tasty morsels had been thoughtfully laid out on each table.
Another novel experience was dining on the onsen’s riverboat, the Yakata-bune. You dress in the yakata or light Summer kimono provided in your room. There are normally several tables of diners but as our visit was out of season we were the only ones on board. The waiting staff were very friendly and they brought us a succession of delicious dishes presented in a series of attractive little pots.
Aso Kuju National Park
Located in the centre of the Kyushu area, Asjo Kuju National Park is known for its huge caldera or volcanic cauldron measuring around 100km. Mount Kuju is the highest mountain in Kyushu, at 1,791 m high. It’s ideal to visit in May when it’s covered in pink Kyushu azaleas, or October when the trees turn vivid shades of red, yellow and orange. We popped into Chojabaru Visitor Centre where we met the manager who spoke excellent English. After showing us an informative video on the mountain and marshland, she took us on a tour of the boardwalk. Thanks to this structure, the marshlands are easily accessible to those with physical impairments. Tadewara Marshland is situated on the northwest side of Mount Kuju and is home to a huge range of fauna and flora, from Japanese Water iris to fan-tailed warblers.
Every year, villagers conduct noyaki or controlled burning of the meadows in order to preserve the vegetation. Our guide sometimes plays the harp in the middle of the marshes – how atmospheric that must be! Mount Fuju is also easily accessible for those who aren’t expert hikers although it’s recommended that they wear waterproofs and appropriate hiking boots.
Our next stop was lunch at Marufuku, famous for its fried chicken. Rest assured that it’s nothing like fast food chicken, being much better quality and of higher nutritional value. The toriten or chicken tempura was particularly moreish. The restaurant has 2 types of seating – an open plan area with tables and chairs and individual booths with traditional Japanese seating – very cosy.
Taketa
Afterwards we visited Oka Castle, a real highlight of my Oita region trip. Originally constructed in 1185 by general Ogata Koreyoshi, it was inhabited by up to 3000 people at one point. Being built on a hill, it was already hard to invade but the builders made it trickier still by creating narrow paths where only a couple of people could enter at a time. Even though only the ruins of the original structure remain, it’s an atmospheric place with beautiful foliage and great views towards the Kuju mountain range. It’s also one of Japan’s top 100 cherry blossom spots and the Oka Castle Cherry Blossom Festival takes place in early April. There’s a statue of Rentarō Taki, one of Japan’s foremost composers and pianists who composed the song Moon Over the Ruined Castle in 1901 in homage to Oka.
After our castle visit we headed to Takeda Sogo Gakui to try our hand at bamboo pendant making. This former secondary school is now a hub for local artists and craftsmen. Our tutor is a talented artist whose works are all sculpted from bamboo, even though they look like copper or steel. He explained how to shape the pendant by threading the bamboo strands to create a ball shape. Whilst I won’t give up the day job just yet, I was happy with the end result.
The nearby area of Nagayu is considered to have one of the hundred best hot springs in Japan. The water is carbonated and has health benefits such as improving blood circulation. I tried an individual bathing room at Nagayu Onsen, a Ryokan (Japanese inn) on the river Serikawa. They admit guests who wish to use the facilities for a reasonable price, and they also have guest rooms and a restaurant. We dined at Kajika-An, a great local restaurant for meat dishes and vegetable tempura.
Asaji, Kyushu
The weather in Kyushu was lovely and sunny and our morning hike was a real pleasure. We were taking part in Oku-Bungo Olle walking course. Olle are trekking courses that originated in Jejudo in South Korea, using a system of blue and red flags to indicate the right route to take. We started off in Asaji at the Tourist Information Office next to the train station in Bungo-Ono city. It’s a 12 km long route with many attractions along the way such as Yujaku Park with its lovely lake.
The highlight of our walk was Fuko-ji Temple. Not only is the temple itself a very serene place set in beautiful landscape, but there is an unexpected surprise…a giant Buddha. Carved from a boulder formed after Mount Aso’s eruption, it’s 11.3 metres long.
After our hike we had earned some refreshments and headed to Hamashima Shuzo at Ogatamachishimojizai Bungoono, a specialty sake brewery using traditional methods. We were lucky to be given a tour by the CEO and also chatted to his daughter who studied in Oxford and speaks perfect English, as well as his charming wife. The process is labour intensive and I can see why it tastes so delicious. For those who are used to strong tasting sake, this is much more subtle and reminds me of wine in its complexity. They don’t just make sake drinks here though, there are also tasty sake infused puddings and Sake kasu, the lees left over from production that can be used in smoothies or to flavour food, or even as a face mask!
Beppu Onsen
Beppu is known for its hot springs, called The Hells, including bright blue Umi Jigoku (Sea Hell) and the red Chinoike Jigoku (Bloody Hell Pond). There are 8 different hot spring areas and many different Beppu Onsen to try out. We enjoyed lunch at Kurodaya, one of the many Beppu hotels with a restaurant attached to it and its own onsen. They use the hot spring water to prepare steamed dishes with Onsen spring water, and very tasty it was too.
From here, I had a look at Beppu foot baths, which are open to the public. You just pay a small fee if you wish to borrow a foot towel. It’s very pleasant to soak your weary feet in the individual tubs.
A few minutes away, there’s a devillish fountain where you can drink the hot spring water. It’s said to be good if you have gastroenteritis, diabetes or gout. I tried it and it tasted perfectly pleasant. Nearby, there are also sand baths where you are covered in sand – definitely something that I’d like to try on a future trip! The weather in Beppu was quite mild so it’s something that I’d recommend at any time of year.
Kitsuki Castle Town
Kitsuki bills itself as the Samurai town of kimonos and Kyushu’s Little Tokyo. That’s because it was the first castle town in Japan to be certified as a historic townscape where kimonos look right at home. Kitsuki is also home to the smallest castle in Japan, overlooking the sea. At Warakuan Kimono Rental, the staff are experts who will help you to put one on and there’s a huge choice for both men and women.
We walked through a lovely garden on our way to the shop.
Kitsuki is said to be the only sandwich-shaped castle town in Japan, meaning that it has traditional samurai houses on plateaus to the north and south, with a merchant town in a valley between. Admission to the ancient samurai houses and all attractions is free to anyone wearing a kimono and you also get discounts in restaurants. We visited the Ohara Residence at 207 Kitsuki where a high-ranking samurai family lived during the Edo period. It was a goyoyashiki, a residence given by the Kitsuki clan to samurai for official business so the residents often changed. The main building has a thatched roof with a large reception room having 10 tatami mats. It has a beautiful garden with 110 varieties of plants, where visitors can wander around. A boundary-guard stone, a sekimori-ishi, which is a round stone tied with a knot, signifying that a path is closed.
/ As you can see, there’s so much to do in Oita and it refreshes your body and mind. It would be fantastic to go back and experience it in Springtime when the azaleas and cherry blossoms are blooming! Have you ever been to Japan?
Pin this for later or share with friends if you’ve found it useful
Thanks to Kyushu region for arranging this trip
