With the 60th Anniversary Specials for Doctor Who we had 3 solid adventures featuring old favorites The Doctor and Donna Noble.

1st sets the mood.

The 2nd which was the weakest did show how well David Tennant and Cathrine Tate play off of each other today as they did 15 years earlier.

It was the last that saw the return of the Celestial Toymaker that gave us our jaw dropper here.

We knew how great Neil Patrick Harris already was, but when it came to The Toymaker, nobody saw this coming.

The U.S. ‘No Fly List’ Found On the Open Internet

The Ohio-based airline, CommuteAir, responsible for the incident confirmed the legitimacy of the data to the media.

The No Fly List and other sensitive files were discovered by Maia Arson Crimew, a Swiss security researcher and hacker, while searching for Jenkins servers on Shodan.

A Swiss hacker by the name of Maia Arson Crimew discovered an unsecured server run by the Ohio-based airline, CommuteAir, a United Express carrier. The hacker claims they found the server while searching for Jenkins servers on Shodan, a specialized search engine used by cybersecurity researchers to locate exposed servers and misconfigured databases on the Internet.

After a while of skimming through the files, Crimew claimed to have found a file labelled “NoFly.csv,” which turned out to be a legitimate U.S. no-fly, terrorist watch list from 2019.

The 80-MB exposed file, first reported on by the Daily Dot, is a smaller subset of the U.S. government’s Terrorist Screening Database, maintained and used by the DOJ, FBI, and Terrorist Screening Center (TSC).

With over 1.5 million entries, the file contains the first names, last names, and dates of birth of people with suspected or known ties to terrorist organizations.

This should not come as a surprise, since the US (along with China) topped the 2021 list of countries that exposed the most misconfigured databases online.

The leak of the No Fly List should not be a jaw-dropper, as in August 2021, the US government’s secret terrorist watchlist with two million records was exposed online. However, the watchlist was exposed on a misconfigured server hosted on a Bahrain IP address instead of a US one.

As for the latest breach, CommuteAir confirmed the legitimacy of the data, stating that it was a version of the federal no-fly list from approximately four years ago. CommuteAir told the Daily Dot that the unsecured server had been used for testing purposes and was taken offline before the Daily Dot published their article.

MCE The Jaw Droppers 2023 #4: Breakthrough of Bilingual VAs in Anime.

The year in anime had itself a relatively quiet go of things. Though one trend did emerge.

2 certain anime shows had vas that ended up doing the original Japanese Version and in the cases where it was simuldubbed in English and released the same day, the same role.

The notable one here being Sally Amaki, Voicing the lovable airhead Carol on Tomo-Chan Is A Girl.

Her work in making the character have 2 different sides of native Sub and Dub while utilizing the same dialogue was definitely unique and almost unprecedented.

The other example actually in microcosm took the work Sally Amaki did and paraphrased “Not only do we also have a bilingual Voice Actress, we’ll make it a plot point.”

Leading to Karin Kagami from D4DJ as we get a unique second season episode that sees her character Maho Akashi think in Japanese and talk out loud in English. Revealed later to be a fever dream but still was the most unique thing anime had done this year.

MCE The Jaw Droppers 2023 #10: The Saga of George Santos

We kick off our second annual Jaw Droppers list like last year with the most recent moment.

For 10.5 Months one of the fresh young new stars of congress was George Santos.

Until slowly but surly many aspects of his story began to be called into question.

And we had so much fun with it. More so with late night.

Bowen Yang in particular became the champ at milking Santos for all the marbles.

MCE The Jaw Droppers 2023 #2: The Enterprise D Returns to the fold.

Along with the 3rd season of Picard being so great in getting the crew of the enterprise D back together for a final journey. There was one player nobody saw coming.

In the wake of a return of an old enemy, Picard and company were brought back to a piece of their past being unexpectedly restored after they had lost it long ago.

What magic happens when Geordi brings the crew together on the rebuilt bridge is nothing short of stunning.

Even the welcome voice of Majel Barrett as the Starfleet computer was a very welcome touch.

We knew the reunion was going to happen from the start. Nobody expected the original ship would come back in the play.

And jaws were dropped.

MCE The Jaw Droppers 2023 #3: Barbenheimer

How anyone saw what was assumed to be at this point a year ago a slam dunk from Christopher Nolan becoming the 5 hour endurance test that would be embraced by many.

There were mashups, merch, explainers and plenty of support from both sides and others caught in the path of this non grind house double feature.

A feet that’ll likely never be equal.

Both do have something in common. They were the destroyer of box office worlds.

MCE The Jaw Droppers 2023 #1: Damar Hamlin

There’s no question what the biggest jaw droppers of the year is. With it occurring just 44 hours into 2023.

When a simple play by Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin happened to impact him just right to stop all body functions for nearly 25 minutes and nearly cost him his life.

The sheer miracle of the training staff who kept him alive and him waking up days later with his functional activity in check is something to be thankful for.

Even more so when he made a return to the field this fall.

Honorable Mention: A Sport Goes Swiftie

Like last year there is one more shocker moment to mention.

Taylor Swift had an eventful year.

One of the notables belonged to a coupling that formed when Travis Kelce tight end for the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs attended the Eras Tour concert when it arrived at Arrowhead Stadium in July.

A phone number left on one of the Swifties bracelet staples led to them meeting up.

By September she became integral in the suites of Arrowhead next to his mom Donna as the NFL officially boarded the Swiftie train.

With many appearances from the big time at MetLife.

To even the surprising ones at small towns like Lambeau in Green Bay.

If this does go predictably where she’ll end up using him for album inspiration down the line. At least we’ll have these fond moments to look back on.
