IM SORRY BUT I HAD A THOUGHT AND ITS DRIVING ME INSANE (Stay AU related)
You know how I often hc Edd to have MC syndrome in some form, where he has this need to be the center of everything, to be well liked by people, to be admired and have someone need him, etc etc all that self-centered, slightly asshole-y, stuff.
But, like I said, this tones down with his age, so its not as bad as it used to be when he was a kid to his 20s, cause he got humbled at some point to where we know him as the raggedy ass future version of himself.
Well….then May Belle comes into his life.
And May absolutely adores her dad, she takes any opportunity to hug him and tell him how much she loves him. The thing that really broke Edd would be when May admits that her personal hero is always gonna be him.
He’s genuinely the center of someone’s world now.
And for once, he doesn’t know how to react to that.

yuta okkotsu had never seen a girl so beautiful.
you were breathtaking, watching from afar, it was truly as if the world revolved around you in the most positive way yuta could think of.
you were popular— a beam of gorgeous light following you everywhere you went as you were always just enveloped by people and strangers and friends, them wanting to talk to you, wanting to get to know you, wanting you to better their lives because that’s what you selflessly liked to do for everyone without knowing.
and every time he’d walk in between lectures and spot you— feeling in the dumps if on certain days he’d miss your presence entirely, he’d just stare. stare with pink cheeks and softened eyes as you laughed and messed around with your friends or did extracurricular activities around campus, always giving a helping hand to those who needed it no matter the status.
that’s what yuta admired the most about you. you didn’t treat anybody differently just because they didn’t stand in the same level as you. you didn’t care about things like that, and you spoke to people with such fucking class and poise, that he always dozed off picturing how it would be like if he ever had the privilege of actually speaking with you.
that’s how most of his work shifts went at the diner after his classes.
he would wait tables or be in the kitchen, wipe down the windows or run the hostess stand… and you’d be on his mind— permanently there to torment him in the loveliest way he knew how.
and on one sunday night, you were unexpectedly there right in front of him at his job.
“hello?”
you waved a gentle hand over his face, and he snapped out of it immediately, cheeks pinky and bright, your friends snickering.
“yes! s—sorry.” he reached behind the hostess stand. “how many are with you?”
“four!” you responded sweetly, yuta having to swallow the huge lump in his throat as he officially saw your smile up close for the first time in his life— a gorgeous contrast to what it looked like from far away.
yuta quickly grabbed the corresponding menus and stepped to the side of the hostess stand, leading you and your friends through the empty restaurant and to a big booth— placing two menus down on each side of the table.
a series of elvis presley oldies (a personal pick from yuta) played through the jukebox in the middle of the diner while you and your friends scanned the menu, yuta fidgeting and anxious with his pen and notepad, waiting for you to order.
“do you have a favorite milkshake from here?” your kind voice spoke, looking up at him.
“uh— milkshake?”
your friends snickered again, but this time, you turned to them and shot them all a menacing glare.
“hey!— stop that you guys…” you shook your head at them and turned back to a red faced yuta, smiling apologetically. “i’m sorry! i’m really sorry.”
your friends only looked annoyed as they buried their faces in their menus or looked away entirely— yuta shaking his head softly.
“n—no it’s alright. um— i usually prefer this one-”
he timidly pointed his pen downward, the words ‘elvis shake’ reading from it.
“it has uh— vanilla ice cream with peanut butter and bananas.” he pursed his lips. “if… if you like that?”
“oh i’m a whore for anything with peanut butter in it!…” your hands spread flat across the menu as you leaned closer, yuta shyly laughing a little at your wording.
you looked up then, your eyes bright and excited and yuta doesn’t think anyone has ever looked at him the way you were at that moment.
“is that why you like it? because of the peanut butter?”
“yeah! yeah definitely... m— mainly because of the name though.”
you stopped and your eyebrows furrowed. “elvis? do you listen to him?”
his cheeks buzzed. “do you?”
“y/n!” one of your friends harshly whispered to you from across the table. “are we here to chit chat or are we here to eat?”
“fuck okay! jesus—”
you and the rest of your group ordered, yuta nervously scribbling down the names of various platters and drinks before silently excusing himself to send the note off to the kitchen staff.
and when it came around to serving your food, placing each individual dish down for each person— yuta gently settled the elvis shake you got in front of you, adorned with baby pink sprinkles over a mountain of whipped cream with a cherry on top, something that yuta did extra for you out of the goodness of his infatuated heart, since it didn’t come with the drink in the first place.
he didn’t know why, but he could tell that the energy was different between you and your friends the second time he came around, and after hiding in the kitchen for the entirety of the time you were there instead of outside waiting tables like he was supposed to, by the third time he came back around— you were fighting with them.
he quickly retreated behind the bar and made himself look busy, guiltily eavesdropping as he picked up a random salt shaker and falsely examined it.
“i don’t understand why you guys can’t just be nice!” you pushed. “is having a normal conversation with somebody that funny? every time?”
“y/n you always talk to a bunch of rando’s of course it’s funny.”
“what the hell does that even mean?”
“it means it looks odd and you’re embarrassing yourself every time you skip around not being mindful of who you’re having conversations with!” one of them seethed, their tone judgemental and rude and one yuta didn’t like at all.
“like— like the server today! i’m pretty sure i’ve seen him around campus, he’s odd. why were you asking him about— about— who the fuck were you asking him about?“
“elvis.” you spat. “i was asking him about elvis."
“that guy! who cares? he works here why do you have to always talk to people like that—”
“like what?!” you threw your arms up. “like a normal decent human being would? i can see why you’d lack that.”
“excuse me?”
“yeah. and it sucks for you.”
“sucks for?— okay. i think we’re done here.”
“way fucking done.”
as each of them scooched out of the booth, yuta watched with wide panicked eyes while you stayed seated and silent, arms crossed over your chest and lips tight as you glared.
“i don’t know why everyone loves you so much…” one of them muttered. “there isn’t anything to you.”
and they all walked out, the bell above the door chiming as they did.
yuta’s eyes darted from you to the exit and to them through the window outside in the parking lot, watching fucking gobsmacked as they all got in one singular car and sped off, leaving you there by yourself and with the responsibility of the bill.
soft sniffles reached him, and he turned then, your body hunched over on the table as you cried with your head down, yuta’s heart aching for you.
he put down the random salt shaker he was holding and walked around the bar, slowly making his way towards your table.
“you don’t—”
you shot up startled.
“sorry! sorry—” he awkwardly scratched his pinky cheek. “i was just— gonna say you don’t have to pay the bill… i— i can—”
“oh! no you don’t have to do that.” you wiped your cheeks. “it’s okay i can pay it.”
“but they left you the entire bill.” he said softly.
“i know… it’s okay! really.” you smiled a little through your tears, the sight making his shoulders slump.
how you could possibly smile at a time like this was beyond him.
yuta started clearing the empty plates from your table when you spoke up again.
“i’m sorry you had to deal with their attitude...” you mumbled. “and my ugly crying.”
he smiled softly and shook his head. “no it’s okay. you shouldn’t apologize for them.”
“i should though…” you whined a little. “they were being mean the moment we got here and were just straight disrespectful.”
you leaned back against the plush of the booth and crossed your arms, muttering. “it’s not like they were my friends either..”
yuta quirked a confused brow, setting the last of the plates away in the kitchen before coming back around. “they weren’t?”
“nuh uh.” you shook your head. “i had just met them today actually, from a sorority event. i thought they were nice at first but i started noticing they were a little bitchy.”
“bitchy?” he laughed a little, his heart leaping like a little leap frog at the realization that it was just you and him at the diner alone, the cooks having already gone home seeing as it was past closing time for the diner.
“yeah…” you sighed deeply through your nose. “they weren’t being very nice to the other girls there either… and— and when they asked me if i wanted to come eat here with them i didn’t really want to go but—” you pursed your lips, a sheepish look on your face. “i have a hard time saying no to people so…”
yuta’s eyes softened, leaning back against the edge of the long bar table as he eyed how resilient you tried to come across but damn well knowing you were hurting inside by their actions, your cheeks still wet and your bottom lip in a slight pout.
“what they said to you wasn’t very nice…” he murmured. “i’m sorry they did that.”
you smiled warmly. “it’s okay. i get it here and there.”
his eyebrows furrowed. “here and there? what do you mean?”
“from other people that i meet.” you perked up slightly then. “do you wanna sit?” you signaled to the seat across from you in the booth and he stiffened, eyes wide and cheeks pink as he reluctantly scooched his legs over and sat across from you.
“they just get a little mad when i don’t do what they want me to do.”
“like be mean? like them?”
you shrugged a little, but the way your gorgeous eyes peered up at him indicated that he was right. “i suppose.”
“are all of your friends like that?”
“oh no! thankfully not…” you fiddled with your fingers on the table. “a lot of them are really sweet.”
yuta never thought about how something like this could be a possibility, as all he saw was how much you were loved and idolized and sought after by literally anyone who knew your name— but he missed the mark on the logistics of it. he should’ve known certain girls wouldn’t be in favor of you and desired what you didn’t have to work very hard for to get.
he saw how you wiped the remnants of your wet cheeks and sniffed, looking like you had at least recovered from crying but still a little dejected as you slouched over the table, eyes down.
“do you want… another elvis shake?”
you looked up. “what?”
“a—another shake. do you want one?” he stood slowly from the booth. “or i could get you ice cream? we just have vanilla and chocolate but—”
“oh no! it’s okay really i don’t want to freeload over what you have—”
he giggled a little. “you’re not freeloading. i’m offering.”
and before you could reject him again, he was already making his way to the kitchen— hands skillfully prepping his favorite milkshake like he’d done so many times before since the age of sixteen, and now skillfully and lovingly preparing it for you, the girl he’s adored since the moment he started college.
you stood and timidly followed after him, but instead of fully going into the kitchen, you stopped in front of the vintage burgundy jukebox and scanned the selection of songs.
“you won’t get in trouble?” you worriedly called over your shoulder. “i don’t want you to run into issues with your job…”
“no it’s okay!” you heard from the kitchen, glasses and silverware clinking together. “i’ve been working here since high school and my manager doesn’t mind. i usually um— close on sunday’s on my own too.”
the blender went off as you spotted your favorite elvis presley song on the list of selections, perking up and quickly digging into your purse for any stray quarters you magically hoped would appear inside.
yuta switched the blender off and unhooked it from the base, pouring out the frothy liquid into a fountain glass cup.
“you close on your own on sunday’s?” your head turned to where he was, catching little glimpses of him from the doorway as he moved to and fro. “the entire restaurant?”
“yeah…” he laughed awkwardly. “well— all of the time.”
“all of the time?!” you gawked, popping your head into the kitchen and accidentally scaring him.
“oh shit!—”
“sorry!” you giggled cutely. “i’m sorry…”
he laughed with you and waved you off. “it’s okay.”
yuta looked down and proceeded topping your milkshake with baby pink sprinkles again. “and yeah we’re kind of… understaffed right now. it’s just me and another kid.”
you hummed understandingly, watching the way he finished off your shake with two cherries on top instead of one like last time, making you softly smile in response.
he plopped a straw in. “here you go.”
“thank you!” you bounced excitedly on your little toes and he grinned, handing the glass over to you gently.
“i hope you feel better…”
your milkshake filled cheeks made him laugh as you paused and swallowed, the sweetest expression ever on your face as your eyes flickered to his name tag and back to him.
“i do yuta… thank you!”
the way his name rang off your tongue, something he never ever would’ve thought to hear come out of your mouth, to come out from you, sent him feeling lightheaded as fuck as he dropped his head down to hide his rosy cheeks, walking out of the kitchen as you followed after him.
you paused in front of the jukebox again.
“oh! i didn’t get to hear your answer from earlier.”
he picked his head up. “from earlier?”
“if— if you listen to elvis?”
“oh—” his gaze drifted to where you had your focus on the elvis presley selection panel on the machine. “i do! i love his music.”
you beamed, eyes lighting up so excitedly as you looked at him.
“oh my god i love him too! so much!”
“really?” he smiled. “do you— do you have a favorite song?”
“yeah! i have a lot...” you giggled shyly. “but i mainly like ‘always on my mind.’”
“that one’s a good one!” his smile grew. “i love that one too.”
“right?!” you stepped closer to him, and his face flushed. “and you? what about you?”
“i uh— i like ‘moody blue’…”
you gushed. “i like that one too!”
you loved the way his pinky cheeks bloomed and how kind he was— the way he tried his best to make you, a stranger, feel better with a cute little milkshake, his stuttering and fidgeting something that you found yourself adoring and only made your heart mushy with the weird need to pinch his rosy cheeks.
and he loved elvis.
“i’m glad you like him.” you hummed, running the pad of your index finger mindlessly over the smooth glittery surface of the jukebox. “people don’t really listen to him or oldies in general now.”
you gently set your nearly finished milkshake on the bar table as he nodded his head in agreement, thinking he couldn’t fall more in love with you over the fact that you actually liked one of his favorite artists. “i didn’t—expect you to either…”
you tilted your head. “really? why?”
“because—” he stammered, eyes darting around your breathtaking face. “well you’re popular. and pretty. and in a sorority. and i just—”
“oh— i see!” you smiled with blushing cheeks at his quick compliment, but it didn’t really reach your eyes. “i understand.”
“no but!—” your eyes stayed glued to the jukebox, and he worried that he might’ve accidentally offended you as he frantically tried to get his words together.
“i know it’s all stereotypes and assumptions so i’m— i’m sorry.”
“it’s alright!” you giggled softly. “i just don’t want you or anyone to get the wrong impression of me because of those things is all…”
your eyebrows pinched in thought, and he quickly shook his head.
“i’ve never!” he reached and placed a hand on your shoulder, your cheeks growing hot as he did so. “i’ve never gotten the wrong impression of you…”
“no?”
“no.”
you peered up at him. “what do you think of me then?”
“what do i—” he gulped. “what do i think?”
“yeah!”
“i think uh… you’re really nice.” he mumbled. “really nice. to everyone.. to me. doesn’t matter who honestly. and… you’re not afraid to say something if someone is being rude.”
yuta shifted his weight from one foot to the other as he avoided your gaze. “and you’re helpful… you put a lot of care into the things that you do, which are always never for your own benefit but for the benefit of others.”
he froze. “i— i see you around campus! a lot— so…”
your doe eyes were soft and filled with affection and warmth, the weight of his words settling into your mind as if they’ve always belonged there. as if he’s always belonged there.
you wrung your fingers behind your back then and leaned up on your tippy toes.
“you think i’m pretty?”
beautiful.
yuta hadn’t even realized that he had called you that until the moment you mentioned it again, his eyes widening as his wobbly lips tried to form coherent sentences for you.
“well— well who doesn’t...” he squeaked.
“but do you?” you leaned even closer, your cute smile nearly making him want to blurt out that he’s in love with you and that he’s maybe thought about you being the mother of his children from time to time.
“i— i do.” his eyes flickered back to yours. “i do.”
you bit your bottom lip and gleamed, giving into your impulses and reaching up to gently squeeze his flushed cheek.
“you’re so cute yuta…” you murmured, arm falling back to your side and eyes casting over the jukebox again.
and he nearly just about died.
“do you want a little donut?” he asked. “i— i can get it from the back—”
you and yuta spent literally the rest of the night until two in the morning chit chatting, playing various oldies tunes on the jukebox that conspired of mainly elvis presley, and yuta literally feeding you and giving you anything he possibly could just so he could watch the way you beamed at him every time he did— even when at one point you literally begged him that it was okay, your tummy absolutely filled with sugary sweets and drinks.
you even helped yuta close— disinfecting and wiping down all of the tables, sweeping the floors, triple shining the little elvis mural the diner had by the hostess stand, and organizing the menu’s for tomorrow’s shift.
in the midst of you wiping down the last of the big glass windows by the entrance with him, you thought of something.
“oh my god yuta—” your head snapped in his direction, his eyes widening at your sudden outburst.
“what if i work here?”
he stopped.
“work here?”
“yeah!” you nodded vigorously. “with you!”
he bit the inside of his cheek to prevent himself from screaming. “with me?”
“uh huh!” you chirped sweetly. “i would love to wipe down tables and listen to music with you everyday..”
yuta’s ears went red as he heard your soft voice say something so cute, wanting to literally run into the kitchen to the sink and dunk his face in sink water to cool off his boiling face.
“if that’s okay!” you sputtered. “am i being weird? am i freaking you out—”
“no! no not at all!” the corners of his lips curled, and he smiled, genuinely smiled. a big loving one that made his cheeks hurt with how hard he was doing it, and one that made your heart lightly flutter inside your chest at the way he was looking at you.
“i can talk to my manager.” he spoke gently. “i’m pretty sure he’ll take you.”
you bounced excitedly on your tippy toes, unexpectedly throwing your arms around him and landing a big fat kiss to his cheek.
“thank you thank you!”
yuta kept true to his word and talked to his manager the following day, who barely even had to think about it since he trusted yuta more than his own damn kids, waving him off and giving him the all clear to have you start the coming week.
“look look! do you likkeeyyy?”
you twirled around in your waitress uniform, the frilly pink fabric moving and swaying with every spin you made as he casually tried to bite down on his thumb in stupid restraint.
“it’s great!” he muttered, teeth locked around his thumb still. “you look great y/n.”
“thanks thanks!”
and you hopped over, giving him another quick kiss on the cheek before skipping away to the kitchen, him ecstatic as he’d been wanting another one so fucking badly again since the first time you did it— him biting down even harder on his thumb when you disappeared from view.
“why do you look like you’re about to shit yourself?”
yuta whipped around and saw his other coworker, yuji, the kid who shares shifts with him sometimes and spills everything and anything that comes out of his mouth without thinking twice about it, standing next to him with a clueless face.
yuji then wiggled his eyebrows teasingly. “is it the girl? the pretty one? the one with the big ass—”
“knock it off—” yuta shoved him away lightly and walked off, crouching down behind the bar counter and sorting through piles of rolled up silverware and buffet napkins.
“do you like her? yes or no?” yuji leaned against the edge of the bar.
his cheeks went pink.
“because if not i’m gonna go try y’know—”
yuta scoffed. “yuji you’re a freshman in high school and we’re in college. she’s in college—”
“okay maybe she likes them young? cougar moment?”
yuta looked at him absolutely horrified and bewildered. “you’re fucking insane—”
his reaction and response only made yuji double over in a fit of laughter, clutching his stomach and gasping for breath as yuta looked at him with an unamused face.
“i’m kidding! i’m just kidding i know you like her you’ve been red in the face the minute she clocked in—”
“what’s so funny?”
you popped your head in from the kitchen, making yuta jump again and yuji double over laughing like before, you giving yuta an apologetic look.
“i wanna laugh!” you pouted. “what happened? what’s funny?”
“yuta didn’t like the joke i made.” yuji quipped.
“well what was it? maybe i will!” you smiled sweetly.
“i said—”
“don’t say it!”
yuji ducked as yuta threw a kids menu at him.
“yuta has a cru—”
“shut the fuck up!—”
you covered your mouth with your hands in a little fit of giggles, the sound halting yuta mid throw to look at you with wide dreamy eyes— not wanting to miss the way you laughed and the way your nose crinkled with every hiccup.
yuji snickered and he shot him a glare before standing and walking over to where you stood.
“you don’t wanna hear it…” he mumbled shyly, fiddling with a buffet napkin. “it was freaking weird.”
you settled your giggles down and breathed, nodding cutely. “i’ll take your word for it, yu.”
yu.
“eeehh?! look y/n! look at his face!—”
“shut up!”
for the rest of the days and shifts that you spent together, yuta made it his mission to do things for you to hopefully earn him a sweet cheek kiss in return like last time, all while desperately trying to avoid yuji and his big ginormous annoying mouth actively corrupting some of his attempts on purpose.
yuta would try and bring you any kind of pastry he could give away to you without his manager knowing, or make you milkshakes randomly throughout your shifts or small BLT’s during lunch time to feed you, all for the purpose of watching the way you’d smile and hug him gratefully each time, and if he got lucky, a sweet kiss on the cheek.
“i don’t get it.” yuji shook his head during one of your shifts, him shuffling through a movie magazine on his break. “why don’t you just ask her for a kiss on the cheek? hm? i’d bet she’d do it! ooo better yet—” he looked at him with sarcastic laced excitement. “ask her out you little loser.”
yuta’s cheeks were hot as he listened, watching you from the kitchen take orders and scribble them down on a notepad.
“it’s been months yuta. months. i am in agony every day watching you follow her around like a lost puppy even though it’s the funniest thing i’ve ever seen.”
yuta rolled his eyes, but sent him a small sad smile. “can’t do it.”
“why not?” he whined. “she likes you too!”
“because she’s out of my league.” yuta pursed his lips. “and no i don’t think she likes me.”
“oh man—” yuji hunched over the sink, tossing his magazine to the side and gripping the rim in exhaustion. “she kisses your cheeks and hugs you and literally took this job because of you! what more proof do you want?!” he grabbed his shoulders and shook him. “a straight up confession?! a straight up kiss?!”
yuta’s heart accelerated at the thought as he pictured yuji’s words clear in his mind.
would you ever kiss him?… would you ever like him back?
“m—maybe?”
“what about school! do you guys not hang out or talk at school?”
“we do!” yuta perked up, but his shoulders quickly slumped. “we’re in different circles though so it’s always just for a little bit or casually.”
yuji groaned loudly and smacked a hand over his forehead. “it’s useless. you’re on your own man i tried i tried so hard i can’t help you—”
he continued to mutter under his breath as he picked up his backpack and walked out of the kitchen and out of the restaurant, the end of his shift drawing near as yuta laughed to himself over his words.
he appreciated how much yuji cared and how badly he wanted him to succeed, but even though his unrealistic expectations and hopes annoyed him most of the time as he blabbed on to him about them, yuta knew he was just a kid. so he valued it anyways.
“yu!” you spoke from behind the bar, him quickly rubbing his sweaty palms over his pants as he walked out of the kitchen to you.
“i’m so excited for tonight!” you smiled, your giddy little self practically bouncing off the walls in anticipation.
he laughed. “you’re excited to clean?”
“yup yup! i’m excited to clean with you.”
with him.
yuta adored sunday’s because that’s when you were both scheduled to close together on your own— just like the first time you did months ago, back when you weren’t working there yet.
there were no cooks, no yuji, no manager, and no customers. just you and him as you blasted elvis singles on the jukebox and got a sugar high from the ice cream machine as you wiped down tables and dusted off shelves— one time you literally slipping on the checkered tile by the entrance because you forgot you had just mopped the floor, yuta practically jumping over the bar counter to see if you were okay and him absolutely sick and worried over nothing as he showered you with more pastries and sweets to help you feel better.
that sunday night he got a kiss on the cheek.
so as you both bid the last customers a good night and got right to work, yuta considered yuji’s dumb words.
maybe he should just ask?
“if elvis was still alive i would probably sell myself to go see him.”
he let out a shocked laugh. “sell yourself? like prostitution?”
“mhm!” you hummed, wiping down the bar counter. “think about it— his tickets would probably cost like three thousand dollars. where the hell am i gonna get three thousand dollars? i’m broke and in college.”
yuta shook his head, his lips in an amused grin. “anything for elvis.”
“exactly!” you leaned over the counter excitedly, yuta on the other side with pink cheeks and a fuzzy feeling in his heart. “you get it. only you understand me.”
he laughed.
“i think it’d be cool if they brought him back as a hologram and did concerts that way.” yuta suggested.
you gasped incredulously as a hand flew to slap over your mouth. “yu! you little genius! oh my god i have to start pimping myself out now—”
yuta laughed again and shook his head. “don’t do that. we’ll find a way to get in.”
“we?!” you propped yourself up on the counter with your elbows and cupped his hands in yours, him stiffening with wide eyes and wobbly nervous lips. “you wanna go with me?”
“y—yeah.” he stammered. “of— of course…”
you squealed and nodded quickly, seemingly accepting the hypothetical proposal.
but then you settled down a little. your eyelashes slowly fluttering as you stared at him— a slow 50s love song statically murmuring through the jukebox adding to the atmosphere as you leaned in and kissed him on the cheek.
but this time it was different.
it wasn’t quick and cutesy and one that yuta barely had time to bask over before you pranced away. it was slow, tender, and yuta could feel the way your soft lips touched his skin and left behind a burn as he let his eyes close at the blissful gentle feeling, him finally able to relish in the rarity of it before you slightly began pulling away, eyes twinkling.
“…do you still think i’m pretty?” you whispered.
he swallowed thickly, your face so close he could feel your breath fanning across his lips.
“i do.” he whispered back, eyes locked on yours. “very much so.”
you bit your bottom lip as you smiled, ever so slightly leaning closer and closer to him as your lips nearly brushed against—
riinnggg!
you quickly pulled away and ran to the back to answer the phone, leaving yuta sitting there swooning and nearly collapsing on the table, his hands cold from not being encased in your own soft hands anymore.
but most of all… leaving him confused. he didn’t know why you were leaning in like that.
“i’m sorry we’re closed for the day!… uh huh… we open at eight am tomorrow if—”
yuta could still feel the blaze your lips left behind on his cheek as you spoke on the phone, his hands coming up to rub his eyes as he tried to get his head back down from the clouds and simmer down the beating of his heart.
“someone wanted to come in right now!” you exclaimed, coming back over to your previous spot.
he furrowed his eyebrows. “right now? are you serious? it’s—” he spun around on the barstool and turned his head to the coca cola themed vintage clock on the wall. “it’s nearly twelve am?”
“i know!” you breathed out. “we closed four hours ago.”
“four?!—”
it dawned on the both of you how long you had been inside the diner, fully convinced it would’ve been longer if you hadn’t noticed.
so as the two of you mutually agreed to finish up and gather your things— the jukebox switched to an iconic elvis presley slow love song as you were just about halfway through the entrance double doors, eyes snapping to each other’s.
“aw i love this one…” you spoke softly, a little whine seeping through.
a small close lipped smile spread across his face. “i love this one too.”
“do you wanna—” you stopped.
his eyebrows pinched. “do i wanna what?”
“do you wanna… dance with meee?” you dragged out cutely, slightly bouncing on your toes.
“dance?” his eyes widened. “i— i don’t know how—”
“s’okay! i’ll teach you!”
you quickly pulled his hand and dragged him out, opening one door and jamming a door stopper underneath it so the music of the jukebox leaked out of the diner and through the empty street.
the pavement was a little wet from the morning rain as you took his hand again and pulled him to the middle of the dead empty street, the bottom of your shoes tapping and splashing a little with each tiny puddle you stepped in.
elvis presley’s voice softly hummed through the air, but it was loud and clear to the both of you as you gently took yuta’s hands and set them around your waist, his heart fucking palpitating and feeling like he was about to have a stroke when you wrung your arms over his neck and showed him that pretty smile he loved so much.
you both slowly stepped side to side, the air crispy and cold as your breath’s blew out foggy misty clouds due to the condensation, both of your noses and cheeks flushing red and buzzing warmly as you continued to slow dance— yuta’s grip slowly tightening until he was practically hugging you flush against his body.
out of anything that could possibly happen to yuta in his life, he wanted to remember this moment specifically— with you, dancing in the middle of the street listening to the man that essentially brought you both together in the first place, your beautiful beautiful face looking at him like he was the most important thing in your life… yuta wanting so badly for that to come true as he basked in this little made up scenario in his head that you were already his.
“yu…” you murmured.
he didn’t trust his voice.
“hm?”
“why haven’t you kissed me yet.”
what?
“kissed… you?”
“yeah..” you whispered, your bodies swaying. “don’t you like me?”
yuta let out a shaky breath. “i— i mean yeah… who doesn’t?”
your smile faltered. “i’m talking about you though…”
“oh. well you know i do. i’m sure a lot of other guys would want to kiss you.”
the song drawled to a gradual close and the jukebox reset, you both no longer swaying but still holding on to each other.
your eyes drifted to the side. “other guys?”
he pursed his lips, not really liking the thought of you kissing guys, but answering your question anyways. “yeah… other guys.”
his emphasis on other guys and not on himself left a bad taste in your mouth.
your eyes narrowed in confusion as you looked up at him, yuta a little shocked at your sad expression.
did he say something wrong?
“i thought—” you shook your head softly. “i thought you…?”
“…thought me what?” he cocked his head to the side, his genuine confusion solidifying his rejection in your eyes.
“i— i thought—”
your hands slipped from his shoulders and you stepped back, yuta sadly complying and letting his arms open and fall beside him as you rapidly blinked back tears, his eyes slowly widening once he caught it.
“hey— are you okay? what’s wrong?”
yuta went and reached for you, you backing away in response as you shook your head and gave him a small smile, but it didn’t reach your eyes at all.
“why are you crying? did i say something mean? i’m sorry—”
“no no i’m fine.” your voice was quiet and sad. “i think we should go home now.”
his shoulders deflated.
“are you sure? we— we usually hang out until at least one in the morning on sunday’s…”
you walked past him and towards the double doors of the diner, letting your tears slip in secret as you picked up your school bag and swung it over your shoulder, quickly wiping your cheeks before picking up his bag and giving it to him.
yuta thanked you and hoisted his backpack up on himself, ushering you gently to step to the side as he pulled the door stopper from beneath and placed it in its corresponding place by the entrance, letting the door close on its own before pulling out the keys from the pocket of his jacket and locking the diner up.
he did all of this— completely unaware to the way you were trying to quiet down your sniffles behind him.
you were so sure he liked you back… now you just felt a little stupid.
of course— the one genuine guy you came across that you actually liked out of all the others that you’ve met, one that wasn’t like the rest and was sweet and funny and caring and so so attentive of you… didn’t like you back.
the one thing you truly truly wanted, you simply couldn’t have— you walking ahead of yuta in silence through the parking lot with your arms crossed as you wondered if the way he treated you was literally just because that’s how he was as a person.
a good person at that. way too good for this world, and way too good for you.
yuta didn’t know why you were so quiet, his chest a bit achy at the absence of your usual cheerful voice.
when you reached your cars, you barely even bid him a proper goodbye like you always did before you got in your car and sped away, leaving a perplexed yuta standing alone in the parking lot— eyebrows pinched together in clueless concern.
you were acting so weird, and you unfortunately continued to do so for the following week.
the next time you came into the diner (which was literally the next day), yuta was taken aback by how bloodshot and sunken your eyes were when you came in for your shift, not saying a single peep to yuji and him when you walked through the kitchen or through the bar counter like you usually did… and it was weird.
through the bustling of the busy restaurant, it was oddly quiet to the two boys, simply because you weren’t your usual boastful self.
and you were hardly talking to yuta either… which pained him the most. you kept it strictly casual— as if you weren’t completely tied together every fucking day for almost a year now, you just completely casual about your day and about the things you had to do whenever he asked you, your one word dry responses sending him through the worst confusing and sadistic loop of his life.
but it wasn’t casual at all. nothing about you was casual. so why were you acting like this? did you finally maybe open your eyes and realize yuta was a big fat nobody who didn’t belong with a girl like you?
yuta nearly cried at the thought. perhaps you had finally realized that.
but how fucking cruel was it that he lived a year of love and beauty and everything that was just you, getting a taste of what it would be like to live a life where you thought of him as something really special and a life where you wanted to basically do everything with him— only to be ripped away from him overnight? with no explanation?
by wednesday, yuta was dead inside.
you didn’t seem to want to do anything with him anymore like before. you didn’t excitedly jump and squeal and bounce on your little toes when it was time for the both of you to clean during your shift or restock the ice cream machine. you didn’t talk to him about elvis anymore or about another ludicrous idea on how to resurrect him from the dead— you didn’t smile like you used to whenever he tried to give you a small pastry, actually rejecting it instead, and you didn’t kiss his cheeks anymore.
by friday, yuji was fed the fuck up.
“what the fuck did you do?!” he whispered harshly at him from the bar, you somewhere in the diner taking orders. “that woman is like a walking zombie. her eyes have been red like red since monday, and she’s not yapping about elvis anymore.”
yuta leaned against the counter with a flat palm to his forehead in worry, feeling like he was gonna be fucking sick over you.
“i— i don’t know.” he stuttered. “i truly don’t know i don’t know what i said that’s making her act like that.”
“okay run it back for me run it back.” he placed both hands on his shoulders and roughly pulled yuta to face him. “explain to me again what happened on sunday.”
“we were closing…”
“uh huh?”
“she wanted to slow dance in the street so we did…”
“okay cute i love that part okay keep going..?”
“and then she asked why haven’t i kissed her—“
“she what?!” yuji choked, “you didn’t tell me this part! you fucking jumped to the parking lot!”
“my bad…” yuta muttered.
“shit— whatever keep going.”
“she also said that she thought i liked her and i said who doesn’t… and then i told her i was sure other guys would want to kiss her.”
“you said other guys?”
yuta’s eyebrows pinched. “yeah?”
“you. said…” yuji repeatedly slowly. “other. guys.”
“yes i did—”
“oh you’re done.” he rapidly shook his head. “i can’t help you i’ve done all i can you’re my buddy and i love you but i cannot take this anymore—”
“woah woah slow the fuck down—” he narrowed his eyes. “what’s so bad about what i said?”
“you rejected her.”
“what? no i didn’t—”
“yes!” yuji nodded frantically. “yes you did you freaking dingus! yuta she wanted a kiss from you a kiss! she literally said ‘when are you going to kiss me!’”
“i thought she was joking about that?” he answered softly.
“i might die early if you don’t figure this out right now.” yuji spat. “when you said other guys, she took it as you saying you’re sure other guys would want to kiss her and not you! do you understand what i’m trying to say?!”
yuta stayed silent.
“you said ‘i’m sure other guys would wanna kiss you,’ which is you indirectly saying ‘i’m sure other guys would wanna kiss you but not me.’ emphasis on others—”
“holy fucking shit.”
why was yuji kind of smart?
“oh thank god!” yuji breathed out, throwing his hands up in the air before clasping them together and looking up at the ceiling, his eyes screwed shut as he shook his interlocked hands and prayed.
“thank you! thank you elvis presley for finally making him see what a dumbass he’s been this entire year especially this moment your music has never been better—”
yuta shoved his fingers through his hair, his eyes bulging open. “holy fucking shit what the fuck did i do?!”
you walked past the bar just then and they both shot their arms down and tried to appear as nonchalant as humanly possible, you not even sparing them a glance as you walked over to the kitchen and disappeared from view.
“oh you have got to fix this.”
yuta spent the rest of the week trying to devise a plan to ease into the situation and have a conversation with you about it, but doing it fucking poorly as he miserably couldn’t come up with anything and yuji having even worse ideas— going as far as to suggesting he kidnaps you and takes you to elvis presley’s home in graceland and apologize there, yuji calling it a ‘grand gesture.’
by sunday, yuta was grasping at straws.
you slowly looked up from the bar as you saw a little sprinkled donut pastry slide across from the other side, your stinging eyes locking with yuta’s and feeling an immediate colossal pang through your chest when you saw him.
“you um—” yuta sighed softly through his nose. “you haven’t had a donut from here in a while…”
“oh.” your eyes stayed glued to the pastry. “thank you but i’m alright. i’m not that hungry right now.”
yuta bit his tongue. “please.”
he wasn’t pleading for you to eat the damn donut, but he pathetically couldn’t get the words out properly either.
“i don’t want it i’m okay.”
“why not?” he pushed. “you love donuts. you haven’t accepted my milkshakes either and you love those too.”
“i got sick of them.”
yuta froze.
you sounded like a completely different person at the moment, and yuta knew that your words held an entirely different meaning to them— his heart literally throwing up all over his insides in distress.
it was near closing time, the last pair of customers just about finishing up their meal as you both stared solemnly at the uneaten donut.
“are you—” yuta cleared his throat. “are you mad at me?”
the customers called you over then, and you quickly pushed yourself off from the edge and walked over as yuta heard your kind customer service voice from somewhere in the diner finalizing the bill for them, the bell above the door chiming as they left— you coming back around to stand back on the other side of the bar.
“sorry what did—”
“are you mad at me.”
you shook your head, eyebrows pinched. “no. why would i be mad?”
“are you upset with me?”
you hummed a no.
yuta wanted to rip his hair out at the fact that he couldn’t fucking think of what to say to you— not wanting to accidentally say something that could offend you like last time without him even knowing, as he didn’t trust his mouth for shit.
“you haven’t looked okay since last sunday.” he murmured. “you don’t look happy around me anymore.”
you pulled your lips into a thin line and pressed hard, already feeling tears threatening to spill.
“it’s just school. it’s tough at the moment.” you mumbled.
“you’re lying.”
you slightly snorted. “okay thanks.”
“no— fuck i did it again.” he screwed his eyes shut. “i know you’re upset with me and i know you’re mad at me. you don’t talk to me as much, you don’t— you don’t take any of the sweets and drinks i give you when you always do, and you refuse to talk to me about elvis.”
“it’s school yuta i don’t know what else to tell you.”
he groaned and pushed himself off the bar, swiftly making his way around the counter to stand right in front of you as your pretty red eyes widened, your body immediately fidgeting.
“please… i miss you.” he mumbled, and your bottom lip started to wobble. “i miss when you wanted me around.”
“i— i do want you around.” you said, so so softly he could barely hear you.
“then please tell me what you’re feeling.”
you brought your hands up and pressed your fingers into your eyes, trying your absolute hardest to keep the tears inside as your body trembled.
“it’s all me it’s not you so— so please don’t worry about it it’s school and— and—”
“i love you.”
you paused.
yuta shakily pried your fingers away from your eyes, holding them in his hands as silent tears escaped down your cheeks.
you shook your head. “no you don’t. you’re just saying that—”
“i love you.”
“stop it you’re being mean i don’t need you to tell me you love me because you feel bad for me—”
you tried to tear your hands away but his grip only tightened as he shook his head and wrung you in, pressing your hands flat over his heart and holding them there as he leaned and pushed his lips to yours, the taste and feeling of you complete fucking paradise as he hoped that the weight of his lips were conveying how much he truly fucking loved you, how much he truly needed you in his life and how much he wanted you to treat him like he was something to you again.
he was tired of you carrying around the missing half of him, but not because he wanted you to give it back.
he wanted you to keep it. he wanted you to keep it forever and ever and not let it dangle over ineptly like you’d done for the past week. he wanted you to kiss it and shove it next to your heart and keep it there snug where it belonged until the day that he died.
the jukebox murmured another soft 50s tune, you slowly but surely letting your tense shoulders relax as you allowed your lips to move against his, your heart screaming and zooming through your bones at the fact that this man was kissing you like you’d wanted and dreamed for him to do so badly for the past year.
you both slowly pulled away with your lips quietly smacking apart, your stunning face finally looking at him the way you always did, the way you used to, even if it was a little timid still.
“are you lying?” you murmured.
his eyes softened as he gently shook his head.
“absolutely not.”
“but you rejected me.”
he sighed through his nose, his hands still pressing yours over his heart as you felt it beat rapidly under your palms.
“i— i didn’t mean to. i swear to god i didn’t mean to.” he gently dropped his forehead against yours as he closed his eyes. “i was being stupid and worded everything wrong. but— but i’m telling you now that i wanted to kiss you… so fucking bad. you’re too pretty for me so i honestly thought i just didn’t stand a chance…”
you couldn’t believe it.
“i don’t want other guys to kiss you.” he continued. “not at all… just me.”
“just you?” you murmured, and he nodded against your forehead.
“just me.” he propped his chin on the top of your head. “i’m sorry i hurt you and made you cry.”
“no yu…” you spoke gently. “i’m sorry too. and i’m sorry i said i was sick of the sweets you give me… i was lying i love them.”
he chuckled softly.
“it’s okay… i know.” yuta gently caressed your fingers with his thumbs. “but i love you pretty.”
“i love you.” you whispered, and you slid your hands up his chest and around his neck, pulling him down in a warm embrace as he copied and pulled your body to his so so tightly, your hearts beating in time with one another as he felt his fingertips go numb at your confession, kissing your soft little cheeks over and over and over again until he got giggles out of you.
yuta loved sunday’s… and so did you.
and when he asked you to be his girlfriend that same night while standing over the jukebox, staring at the elvis presley song selection like you’d done many times together before in the past, yuta for the first time realized that he hadn’t felt alone since the moment you came into the diner with your mean friends— finding himself actually thanking them in his head for that, realizing that if they hadn’t then you probably would’ve left with them and he would’ve never gotten the chance to speak to you that night.
the next time you both came into work, you back to your usual jumpy self as you took every pastry that yuta gave you again and babbled about elvis and how you were gonna spend your hypothetical prostitution money on a flight to memphis to see his grave and pay your respects, yuji was elated.
“what happened?! you have to tell me what happened come on you can’t keep it from me i’m just a boy—”
you skipped into the kitchen then and smoothly walked in between them, pressing a gentle cute peck to yuta’s lips before grabbing what you needed from the back and walking back out, yuji’s mouth flinging open and his jaw hitting the fucking floor.
“how— what— when— where—”
you stepped back in after a second and bounded over next to yuta, his eyes soft as he watched you lean your head on his shoulder.
“what?” you asked. “what’s wrong yuji?”
“oh god no!” he wailed, dramatically throwing an arm over his eyes in agony. “i thought this is what i wanted but it’s not! i want a kiss like that man!”
he flew to his knees in front of you and took your hand in his. “y/n why can’t you just wait for me please?! wait five years you’re so pretty i won’t confuse you like this dingbat and i’ll give you better sweets and milkshakes than him please!—”
yuta took your hand and slapped yuji’s away. “you freak stand up man the floor is dirty—”
“i need a popular gorgeous girlfriend like you yuta! how could you do this?! i thought we were brothers?! what spell did you cast?! have you ever learned jujutsu?! what have i done!—”
your manager popped his head into the kitchen and you all stiffened.
“yuji why are you crying? everyone outside can hear you, kid.”
yuji flew to his feet and shook his head. “m’not crying sir. everything is fine just fine and dandy sir.”
“okay… well can you check on your tables? leave yuta and y/n to work.”
“yes sir i’ll check on them sir.”
your manager nodded, muttering something about today’s generation as he left and went back inside his office, yuji walking out of the kitchen shortly after with his head down as you both tried your hardest to keep your laughter in, hands tightly clasped over your mouths and silently snickering to keep yuji from hearing it on the other side.
“p—poor him.” you heaved, a hand over your chest. “i hope— i hope he finds his ‘popular girlfriend’ when he’s older.”
“i wish her luck.” he muttered, and your hand slapped back over your mouth again as you burst into another fit of giggles alongside him.
yuta sheepishly outstretched his arms for you once you both settled down, you perking up excitedly with a cutesy little grin as you skipped into them, your arms wrapping snug around his torso as he brought his around your shoulders and squeezed, earning a tiny squeak from you that made him laugh.
he hoped to god he wasn’t dreaming.
yuta started shifting his weight from one to the other, gently moving and swaying you side to side in the kitchen as you giggled and let him lead you like that.
“you slow dancing yu?” you murmured softly, head coming up to give him a kiss on the cheek as he blushed.
“yeah..” he hummed. “i like it when we do.”
“i do too yu… it’s like our little thing! we’re so vintage.”
he snorted, and a charming beautiful smile spread across your face— one that made him wonder how he ever managed to land you when all he did was wait tables and stutter foolishly and wasn’t anyone particularly special like you were.
but you. you were everything. everything and way fucking more as you looked at him like he built the diner himself brick by brick for reasons he still couldn’t understand why.
yuta spoke after a moment.
“…what do you think of me?” he murmured suddenly, cheek mushing up against the side of your head as your brows furrowed.
“what do i think of you?” you asked, your perplexed face slowly shifting to one of realization as it dawned on you how yuta was reiterating your words to him from when you first met.
he grinned. “yeah.”
you pulled back to face him.
“i think you’re kind… you always have been even when i didn’t deserve it.”
his jaw dropped. “what? didn’t deserve it?—”
“i’m not finished!” you pouted, and he playfully rolled his eyes as he shut his lips.
“you’re too good to me yu…” you sighed a little. “you’re so helpful and selfless, and even when things piss you off you still take the time to appreciate them… like yuji.”
you both snickered then, and yuta brought his head down and nuzzled his face into the crook of your neck.
“i love the way you love, yuta. i love the way you love me and take care of me and always feed me…” you giggled. “without me ever having to ask.”
you felt his arms tighten around you.
“don’t ever think that you aren’t special to me or anyone or i’ll kill you and go to graceland without you.”
he laughed loudly in your neck and pulled back, half lidded ditzy loving eyes staring back as he leaned in and kissed you— gentle and delicate, his hands coming up to cup your warm cheeks.
“jesus man table nine would not stop asking me for— oh god no!”
you and yuta jumped apart, yuji immediately wailing and crying again as he flung himself to the floor on his knees.
“really?! in my kitchen?! in front of my face?! how cruel can you be yuta?! y/n can you maybe give me a ki—”
yuta leaned down and smacked him upside the head.
“owwwuhh! what’s wrong with just one little kiss man?!—”
“cut. it. out!—”
and just like always, the week came and went, sunday fast approaching as the day eventually came to close the diner together like lovely clockwork— wiping down tables and sweeping the floors, organizing the menu’s and restocking the crayons for the little kids, gulping down milkshakes with yuta like water as you worked…
but most importantly— sharing long kisses in between each sweeping rotation, kissing and pinching his cheeks repeatedly whenever he asked or did literally anything, and slow dancing to the same 50s love song that played when you first tried to kiss him at the bar that one night, swaying together in a silly way and giggling whenever you’d both nearly topple over to the floor— yuta beaming and lovesick as he looked down at your gorgeous smile and your gorgeous face… it gleaming with so much purpose, so much pure love and importance and value for him as you danced—
that yuta decided he wanted you to keep the other remaining half of him too.
forever.

Heartfelt Letters <3 (30th July 2024)
Izuku Midoriya x Reader
Prompt! Izuku receives a series of love letters. The dekusquad offer their encouragement but little did he know, they were all in on it.
Izuku Midoriya was no stranger to nerves. As the inheritor of One For All and the aspiring Number One Hero, he faced countless challenges that tested his courage and resolve. Yet, despite all his bravery on the battlefield, there was one thing that made him more nervous than anything else: his crush on Y/N.
Y/N was everything Izuku felt he wasn't. She was confident, graceful, and had an effortless charm that drew people to her. She was the sunshine in the class, lighting up every room she entered with her warm smile and infectious laughter. Izuku admired her from afar, convinced that someone as amazing as Y/N would never be interested in someone as clumsy and nervous as him.
One day, after a particularly grueling training session, Izuku found a love letter in his locker. His heart raced as he read the sweet, heartfelt words written inside:
Love Letter #1:
"Dear Izuku,
I’ve been watching you from afar, admiring your determination and courage. You inspire me every day with your kindness and bravery. Thank you for being the wonderful person you are.
Yours truly,
Your Secret Admirer"
Izuku's heart pounded as he read the letter, a mix of excitement and confusion filling him. Who could this be? Why would anyone admire him like this? He felt a strange mix of hope and doubt, unsure of what to think.
The next day, Izuku found another letter waiting for him in his locker. His hands trembled as he opened it, his heart racing with anticipation.
Love Letter #2:
"Dear Izuku,
Your smile brightens my day, even on the darkest of days. I love how you never give up, no matter how tough things get. Please keep being you.
With admiration,
Your Secret Admirer"
Izuku’s blush deepened every time he read these letters. The Deku Squad—consisting of Y/n, Uraraka, Iida, Todoroki, and Tsuyu—quickly noticed his distraction and curiosity. They were gathered in their classroom, discussing the latest assignment when they spotted Izuku clutching yet another letter.
"Hey, Deku, what’s that you’ve got there?" Uraraka asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Izuku hesitated before showing them the letter. "I keep finding these in my locker. I don’t know who they’re from, but... they make me really happy."
Iida adjusted his glasses, his expression serious. "Midoriya, you are an exemplary student and a kind-hearted individual. It is no surprise that someone would admire you."
Todoroki nodded in agreement. "I think you should consider the possibility that it's someone close to you."
Izuku blushed, glancing around at his friends. Just then, Y/N, who had been sitting quietly at her desk, stood up and excused herself. "Excuse me, I need to get something from my locker," she said before leaving the classroom.
As she left, Izuku continued in a hushed voice to his best friend Todoroki, "I don’t know… I just can’t imagine someone like Y/N ever being interested in me."
The next day, Y/n who was seated beside the green haired boy noticed a slip of paper underneath his desk. “Oh Izuku! There’s something beside your foot.” she gently said pointing towards the letter. As she was about to say something else, she gets a phone call. “Oh, I have to take this. I’ll be back guys!” the girl chirps as she stepped out of class. As she left, Izuku had clutched yet another letter in his hand as he was reading it in class.
Love Letter #3:
"Dear Izuku,
I’ve seen you grow so much since the first day we met. Your dedication and heart make you special in ways that words can hardly express. I hope this letter finds you well and that it brings a smile to your face.
Forever admiring,
Your Secret Admirer"
Just then, Kaminari who was walking by the green haired boy’s desk, he accidentally blurted out, "So, are you and Y/N together yet? She’s been sending you letters for a while now."
Izuku’s eyes widened in shock. "Wait, what? Y/N has been sending me these letters?"
The Deku Squad suspiciously exchanged glances.
"Honestly, I thought it would take you a lot longer to figure it out," Mina Ashido said with a smirk, leaning back in her chair.
"Yeah," Uraraka added, "We were pretty sure you'd catch on sooner. I mean, the signs were pretty clear."
"Everyone had their bets on how long it would take for you to realize, ribbit." Tsuyu said with a gentle smile.
Iida nodded thoughtfully. "We had our suspicions that you’d catch on, but we didn’t want to ruin the surprise."
Izuku's face grew even redder. "You guys knew about this? Why didn’t you say anything?"
The class burst into laughter, with some students even teasing Izuku about his obliviousness. He turned to Y/N, who had just re-entered the classroom, his heart racing.
Y/N looked at him with a mix of curiosity and amusement. "Is something going on?"
Izuku’s face turned beet red. "I didn’t know… I had no idea it was you."
Y/N smiled softly. "Yes, it was me. I wanted to let you know how much I admire you."
The entire classroom erupted in cheers and laughter. Izuku’s face was bright red, but he couldn’t stop the smile spreading across his face.
Izuku held the letter close, his heart full. The letters had been a source of joy and hope for him, and now, knowing who was behind them made everything even more meaningful. As he looked at Y/N, he knew that this was just the beginning of something wonderful.

Maybe the soap opera drama has a tight grip on my braincells BUT
imagine siren with a love interest who keeps. Getting. Into. Bad. Relationships.
not BAD bad relationships, just— people that are kind of pricks. One guy accidentally leaves the door open and their cats escape (and he doesn’t give a single fuck, just keeps watching tv and when the reader comes home from work he’s like “oh yeah ur cats escaped a few hours ago”), another never shows up on dates, one is just an arrogant prick, the other is boring as hell and has nothing in common with the reader——
Just
that must STING for siren. Like—— he’s right there????? He’d never think that he would be ENTITLED to a relationship with the reader, NEVER— but why can’t he be your type??
10/10 angst for him id say
he can’t even convince himself that he would be BETTER for the reader because he’s a villain
idk
"i found your cat, not him."
➵ PAIRING! clinic!siren!wilbur x civilian!taken!reader
➵ CREATING! 12.17.23 | 3631 words
➵ CONTAINING! jealous wilbur, reader has a cat, reader has a bf, jester talking some sense into siren, heartbroken wilbur
➵ SAYING! this took some days to work on but look! it’s finally done! i had a lot of ups and downs and probably switched up the plot a couple times but here it is :D thank uuu @listenheresweaty for suggesting this honestly i was thinking about writing this the moment u suggested it and now i have free time so yippie. hope yall enjoy :D
My masterlist :)
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
(y/n) had a reputation to have a terrible taste in partners. Whether it be a girlfriend that refused to take them on a date and made (y/n) plan all of the dates out, or the boyfriend they had now, who “accidentally” left the door open, letting their cat escape. Wilbur watched from the window as the desperate (y/n) approached any passerby, showing a picture of their feline, just to have any sort of direction as to where it might be.
Wilbur wasn’t a hero of any sorts. The clothes on his back were purchased with money robbed from the bank down the street, and the laptop he was using to do his work on was stolen from some tech store in the mall. And don’t even get him started on his body count that could fill a graveyard. His powers were venom dripping from his tongue, and he was nothing but a snake.
So what made Wil get up from his seat to tap the shoulder of a helpless (y/n)?
Maybe because this person was an interest of Wil’s for quite some time now. From seeing them inside the coffee shop from time to time, to even catching the glimpse of the back of their head as they boarded the bus— It was like this person was meant to be in Wil’s life. Though he just never had the excuse to go up to them. So instead, for weeks now, he has been admiring this person from afar, seeking for some type of opportunity to spark up a conversation.
“Hey.. Are you alright?” He asked. (y/n) turned around, a little out of breath from quickly speaking to anyone who approached them.
“Y-Yeah— no! No..” She sighed, breathlessly. They slumped against a nearby wall, almost defeated. “I— I lost my cat. She’s this sweet white ragdoll with a pink collar and big black eyes. My boyfriend left the door open and she just snuck right out! He said the cat’s been gone for a while now and he didn’t even bother helping.” They trailed off. “I know she’s here somewhere.. I don’t know..” They buried their face into their hands, frustrated with themself.
Wilbur looked at them with a tilted head and puffed up cheeks. Despite this being a stranger, he couldn’t help but feel a panging guilt in his chest. “Hey,” He placed a hand on their shoulder. “I think I might be able to find her.”
“..You think so?” They responded in a meek voice.
“I’m sure..” He replied in a gentle tone. “I usually work like really late in the city. Maybe I could find her on my way home? Just give me some form of communication and a picture and I’m sure I can find her.” He smiled reassuringly. (y/n)’s head perked up, and suddenly their face was beaming with hope. It was a look Wilbur wished he could screenshot with his eyes and keep it in his mind gallery.
“Thank you! You don’t know how much this means to me.” They gleamed. “Hold on— Let me give you my phone number. What was your name again?”
Something about this question made Wil freeze up a little. This complete stranger, telling him that he’s a good person, is also asking for his name? I mean, it’s not like its the first time someone asked his name. But being asked in such a kind and polite way, it almost took him back to when he first met Phil.
He shook his head, snapping out of his thoughts.
“Wilbur,” He finally said. “Call me Wil.”
After exchanging contact information they parted their separate ways. Wil decided to pack up his stuff and head back home. He took the train to his neighborhood and spent the whole ride staring at this picture of (y/n) with their cat he learned was named “Anvil.”
The picture was a selfie taken by (y/n) with Anvil pressing her fluffy face against her owner’s soft skin. It was a cute sentiment captured by their phone camera, and Wilbur knew it was a treasured picture of theirs. He took the time to admire the cat’s features. It had a mess of white fur, and would definitely stick out like a sore thumb in the midnight dark. The train came to a halt as it had arrived to Wil’s destination. It didn’t take but a fifteen minute to arrive home.
Wilbur inserted the keys into the doorknob before pushing the door open. He kicked the door behind him closed as he placed his coat and shoes by the shoe cabinet and dresser.
“Hey, Wil,” Phil called from the kitchen.
“Hey, dad.” He shouted back. Wil threw his bag onto the couch before sliding against the sleek wooden floor to the entrance of the kitchen. Phil’s wings were loosely hanging behind him as the man stir fried some ingredients into a wok. “What’s for dinner?” Wil asked.
“Oh, just some fried rice.” Phil shrugged. “Whatcha do today? Hang out at the cafe?”
“Ah, yeah, pretty much.” Wil said, leaning against the fridge. “I, uh, met someone today.”
“Oh?” Phil said, raising an eyebrow. “Someone, you say?”
“What— Hey! It’s not like that..” Wil rolled his eyes while crossing his arms. However that wasn’t enough to convince Phil.
“Well if you say so.” Phil smirked. “So, what happened?”
Wil turned around and grabbed a glass from the cabinet before pouring himself a glass of ice cold water. He took a sip before speaking. “Well, there was this person and— I’m not quite sure what it was about them but.. They had lost their cat, and I felt really bad, so I offered to help them. They sounded so kind and stuff, but like— Apparently their cat ran away because their stupid boyfriend decided to leave the door open?! And he didn’t ever bother to help—!” Wil took a deep breath before bringing the glass back to his lips.
“—Oi, what are you bitching about?” As if on queue, Tommy emerged from the stairs. His hair was a ruffled his mess and he stumbled a little as he walked as if he had just woken up.
“Oh, Wil is just upset about someone he just met losing their cat—” Phil tried to explain, but Wil was quick to butt in.
“They didn’t lose their cat! It was their damn boyfriend!” He corrected. “Like, for hours he even knew the cat escaped and he just let it happen?!”
“Uh oh, looks like big Wil over here is catching feelings!” Tommy snickered as he wrapped an arm around Wil’s neck.
“Ugh, stop—” Wil pushed him away, but Tommy was persistent with his teasing.
“Little Wilbur has a crushy wushy and will find that cat and propose to them OoOoOo!” Tommy chirped.
“—Dad! Tommy’s being a bitch!” Wil cried as he struggled to escape Tommy’s grasp. After enough pushing, Wil was able to shove Tommy away before forcing Tommy into a headlock.
“Hey! Agh— Get off me you big bastard!” Tommy exclaimed. But Wilbur stood firm as he restricted Tom’s limbs by embracing him tightly.
“Both of you stop playing in the kitchen! Now, go get Techno because the food is ready.” Phil ordered, sternly.
Reluctantly, Wil released his grip from Tommy. Tom rubbed his arms and gave a big side-eye look to Wil.
“Bitch.” Tom muttered.
“Tommy! Go!” Phil ordered again, leaving Wilbur a snickering mess as Tom did his walk of shame toward the steps.
After dinner with the Soots (and some convincing to the family that Wilbur was not in love with this stranger he had just met), Wil dressed in his disguise and entered the night as Siren, a profound villain known in L’manburg city. His first task at hand was to find Anvil in Eastside.
He sauntered through the night with his hands in his pockets and his eyes lurking the streets. The night was cold and quiet with only the hum of the streetlights occupying his ears. But his only goal was to listen to the sweet meow of a cat lost and frigid. Every alleyway he came across he made sure to go through it thoroughly, making sure that the cat wasn’t stuck in a garbage can or in a cardboard box.
“Fuck, where is this cat..?” Siren muttered under his breath. He began whistling, making any noise imaginable to summon the feline. To no avail, no cats came running his way. Instead, a rather confused Jester jumped down from a building and right in front of Siren.
“What.. Are you doing?” Jester asked. Though he was wearing his mask, Siren could already tell he was furrowing his eyebrows.
Siren scoffed before continuing to walk. “I’m looking for a cat.” He replied. “But I can’t find her anywhere. I’m supposed to get her before the morning so I can return it to its owner.”
Jester followed behind him, his hands behind his back. “And this is important because..?”
“I-It’s important to me!” Siren retaliated, but if anything, it made him seen more desperate.
Jester sighed before shaking his head. “Don’t tell me you’re doing this just to impress someone.”
“I-I don’t know man.” Siren finally admitted, though he continued looking left and right in an attempt to find (y/n)’s cat.
“Siren, you know we can’t be doing this— y’know, trying to date and all of that. We’re villains. What do we do if they find out, and the whole syndicate is reported? Plus, you know how we are. We’re ‘evil.’” Jester made sure to put the last word into air quotes. “At least to society we are. We have to face the truth—”
Though Jester’s words were going one ear and out the other, some of them still stuck in Siren’s head. Sure, this wasn’t the first time Siren wanted to form a close bond with someone outside of the syndicate— I mean look at Tommy. He adjusted comfortably. But I guess this time it was different. This was a complete stranger that he met as a civilian, and now he was out as Siren looking for their cat! The more Siren thought about, the more he felt foolish.
Suddenly, a loud meow could be heard from an alleyway just to the left of Siren. Jester ceased his talking and looked at Siren, who was staring at Jester right back.
“Is that the—”
“Shhh..” Siren brought his finger to his lips to quiet down Jester. Slowly, Siren approached the alleyway with Jester steadily following behind him. Lo and behold was Anvil, perched on top of a cardboard box that sat right on top of a garbage can.
“How’re you going to get it?” Jester whispered.
“Just watch.” Siren cleared his throat. He picked up a spare cardboard box that was lying around and held it up near ground level for the cat to easily jump into. “Anvil, come and sit in this box.”
A moment of silence passes between the three of them as the cat laid comfortably in her seat, not planning to move anytime soon.
“Uh, was that supposed to do something?” Jester asked sarcastically. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
“What the.. Anvil, come here now!” I demanded once again. As if taunting me, the cat simply licked her paws in response. Jester couldn’t help but to burst out laughing.
“Are you telling me your powers don’t work on cats?!” Jester gasped between laughs. “That’s fucking hilarious! Hopefully the Heroes won't find out about this one!”
“Shut up, dude!” Siren fussed at him. It took a bit for Jester to settle down his laughter with hands up out of protest.
“Sorry, sorry.. I just think it’s way too fucking funny.”
“Help me get this fucking cat, dude!” Siren exclaimed, clearly annoyed now. Siren turned around, now facing the cat again. He decided to kneel down to ground level with the box now on the floor.
Siren whistled to grab the feline’s attention. “C’mere, Anvil! Come here, buddy!” But the cat simply ignored the masked man.
“Hm, do you have a picture of the owner?” Jester asked.
“Oh, uh, yeah—” Siren took out his phone and tapped on a few things before pulling up the picture of (y/n) and Anvil. Siren looked at it one last time before showing the screen to Jester. He studied the face carefully, even grabbing the phone himself for him to examine.
Then with a simple head shake, Jester transformed his face into (y/n). It was an uncomfortable sight seeing their head on Jester’s body, but it definitely sparked the interest of Anvil.
“Come here, Anvil, come here!” Jester exclaimed as knelt down. Even his voice was near identical to (y/n). Obediently, the cat hopped off of the garbage can and into the arms of Jester, purring gingerly as she snuggled into his chest. I gave Jester an amused look as he smirked smugly.
“So, am I getting paid for this?” Jester asked as he carefully placed the feline into the box.
“To be fair, you volunteered to help. I didn’t ask.” Siren replied.
“Touche.”
Siren and Jester walked together until they were able to change into civilian clothes to avoid any conflict. It was important for Jester to maintain the face of (y/n) to keep the cat as calm as possible. Despite Siren knowing that it was just his friend and business associate under that form, he couldn’t help but stare at the face of (y/n). How their hair flowed as they walked and how their eyes glowed even under the moonlight. It felt too enchanting to even be real.
“Hey, you good bro?” Jester’s voice was the only thing to throw Siren out of his delusions.
“Yeah— yeah I’m fine.” Siren muttered, looking away. Jester rolled his eyes before sighing.
“Dude, what did I just say about getting attached to anyone?” Jester lectured once again.
“I— I know.” Siren replied defeatedly. “I know..”
“It’s dangerous for you, and whoever this—” Jester pointed as his own face. “—person you’re so infatuated with. It would be dangerous for not only you, but for them too. Imagine how much trouble they would be in knowing that they’re in relations with a supervillain.”
“I know, Jester!” Siren cried. The both of them stopped in their tracks. Even the cat laid still in it’s box. The midnight crickets filled the empty air between the two villains. “I get it— it’s too dangerous for me. It’s too dangerous for them. I’m evil. I’m going to put them in danger— I just— ugh!” Siren tilted his head back in frustration.
As he bit the inside of his cheek to hold back any bitter words he had the urge to say, Jester stood there and stared at him. It hurt even more seeing the person of interest saying these words to him. Jester quickly transformed back into his regular mask and placed a hand on Siren’s shoulder.
“Look man, I’m sorry..” Jester apologized. “I’m just worried about you, alright? Don’t want anything happening to you, especially what went down this past year.” Siren tilted his head back to look at him, and though his eyes were shielded, he could tell they were full of sincerity and reassurance.
“Yeah..” Siren voiced. “I guess I’m just tired. I don’t know. Let’s hurry home soon.”
“Alright.” Jester agreed.
The two were able to change out of their villain disguises in an abandoned warehouse without anyone noticing them. They then made their separate ways, leaving Wilbur and the cat in careful silence on walk home. Once Wil made it to the front door, he was careful in making up the steps to his room where he would keep the cat. Thankfully, he didn’t have to worry about disturbing anyone’s sleep considering that Phil and Techno were at a meeting and Tom could be quite the heavy sleeper.
Wil shut his bedroom door behind him and placed the cardboard box next to his closet. Though the cat was sound asleep now, he made sure to tuck in the feline with any spare blankets he had lying around before changing into his sleepwear and laying down in bed.
Wil pulled out his phone and texted (y/n).
Wilbur Hey, able to meet me at the cafe sometime tomorrow morning? I have you cat :)
Surprisingly, they responded.
(y/n) OMG really?! Thank you so much! I’ll see you tomorrow x
‘x’? Don’t those usually mean kisses? They probably just meant it in a friendly way. Or maybe they’re showing an interest in Wilbur? Nah, that can’t be possible. But what if? What if they’re interested in Wilbur?
Regardless of what (y/n) intended when they signed off with that little letter, Wilbur only slept a mere two hours.
The next day, Wil was ecstatic despite his lack of sleep. It was as if in a blink of eye he was in bed, but then the next moment he was scarfing down his breakfast and bolting out the door with Anvil’s box in his arms.
After all this time, he finally was able to do some sort of action to get (y/n)’s attention. To finally place himself in their field of view, and maybe, just maybe, they would have some sort of interest toward him. The thought made Wilbur’s heart flutter, making him feel like his body lifted which each step he took.
Wil had finally made it to the cafe, and right on time for that matter too. The building was just up-ahead. Wilbur took a deep breath, his chest pounding from adrenaline, anxiousness, and maybe a bit of excitement sprinkled in there as well. He looked down at the cat, who was previously buried in a sheet. She was now looking up at the man with big beady eyes staring right back at him. The charm to her collar clinked as it waved side to side.
“Okay, Anvil, I’m gonna return you to your owner now, alright? I-I’m sure she’s missing you.” Though he was just simply talking to a cat, this was (y/n)’s cat. And he was returning (y/n)’s cat! He was! Not some other kind stranger, not her family, not even her dirtbag boyfriend. It was Wilbur who would be returning this cat. Without him, Anvil wouldn’t be safe and sound in someone capable to protect a feline from the treacherous night.
With a proud smile, Wil approached the cafe with confidence radiating off his strides.
This was it, he thought.
This was it.
But was it?
He looked in the window to locate (y/n), but instead he found a sight more displeasing. the sight made his heart drop and his knees weak, but it took all his strength and awareness that he was holding a cat to keep himself steady. (y/n) was huddled up next to what seemed to be their incompetent boyfriend. Their head leaned against his shoulder, but the boyfriend did not return the affection. Instead he sat with his hands both placed on his phone, seemingly playing some idle shooting game to occupy his absent mind.
It took (y/n) noticing that Wil was at the window for Wilbur to break out of his mind. Their face beamed at the sight of their cat, and immediately they got up and rushed out of the door to greet him and her feline.
“Anvil, sweetheart!” They exclaimed. The cat immediately perked her head to face her owner before jumping out of the box and into (y/n)’s arms. Wil smiled contently at the sight, however his brain felt all kinds of fuzzy. As if he wasn’t really there.
“Thank you so much! You don’t know how much this means to me. Thank you, Wil, seriously!” Something about (y/n) saying his name made him wince. It felt like a hug before a stab in the chest. Regardless, he pushed through.
“Yeah, of course. I told you I would get her as soon as possible.” Wilbur said.
“You’re an actual lifesaver! I’m sorry if she put you through any trouble. Can I buy you a coffee or?” (y/n) offered. Though the offer was tempting, he didn’t feel comfortable spending another second seeing him and them together. Especially at such a close proximity.
“I-I’m fine,” Wil quickly muttered. “I have to go somewhere in a bit. I’ll catch you later, yeah?”
“Of course! Thank you again, truly.” (y/n) smiled. He simply nodded before turning and walking away.
Though Wil could argue that the man (y/n) calls their boyfriend is a prick, it’s not like he would be any better. Just like Jester said. That man could sit on his ass all day, not care for their cat, not care for them, and yet, he would still be the better option between him and Wilbur.
Wilbur is evil.
Wilbur is a villain.
Wilbur has killed countless living people compared to that prick killing digital npcs for fun.
Though, the argument stapled in Wil’s mind.
Wil found (y/n)’s cat. Not him.

Secret admirer
You've been receiving strange letters, but they were so sweet and lovely you just assumed someone was too shy to talk to you in person. As you keep entertaining this sweet, secret admirer, you find yourself caught in a dangerous web.
Amber Freeman x GN!/Fem!Reader(no pronouns but for sapphics)
Warnings: creepy behavior, stalking, cursing, if you have trust issues this might be a little "scary"(I'm paranoid so I felt I should put this warning, but writing this didn't make me paranoid so idk), I think that's all
a/n: This is part 1. I'm being fucking delusional here and ignoring all the red flags. No bad ending, alright, I'm not angsty like that
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Tumblr media
You never expected something so sweet and innocent to be, actually, very fucked up. But you also never expected to like it, so I guess it wasn't so bad after all, right?
You assume it all started once a mysterious envelope fell to the floor when you opened your school locker. You were late and rushing, quickly grabbing whatever it was and shoving it between your notebooks, not giving it much thought. Maybe you just had forgotten that you put it there, something like that.
When you got home that day, one of your friends asked for a picture of your notes from that class, which reminded you of its existence once you opened the notebook. After sending the picture, you walked over to your bed, sitting with your legs crossed as you observed the envelope carefully, unsure of its content and origin. You checked the front and the back, but found no identifications, only the lovely heart sticker that kept it sealed. You wondered if there would be a signature inside or, if it was a letter, you might've been able to recognize the caligraphy. So, carefully and curiously, you opened it.
What you found surprised you at first. It was a letter, but it seemed... off. Your heartbeats quickened slightly once your eyes met the magazine cut-out letters, making it look like some sort of ransom note. Ignoring the almost audible palpitations of your heart, you started reading the letter. It was curious, and strange, definetely unusual. But it wasn't threatening. And as you read it, it was a relief that it sounded more like a love letter than a ransom note, which gradually steadied your heartbeats.
The correspondent was surely in love with you, and that was clear by the way they wrote about you. So beautifully and genuinely. You were able to tell how attentive and infatuated they were, when they mentioned small details they liked about you, or moments they found you endearing, even if from afar. There was an additional note by the end, written: "PS: if you'd like to write me back, leave a letter between the pages of your favorite book in the library(I've seen how many times you borrow it, I love that book too)". And at the bottom, the closest thing you found from a signature or identification was "- your secret admirer," still in cut-out letters.
When you snapped back to reality, the warmth of your cheeks invaded your senses, and you finally noticed the hint of a smile on your face. Of course, the letter was still strange, and any rational person would throw it away, not entertain it, and if things got worse, go to the police. But in the moment, you were blinded by the flattery. Sure, you knew of some people who find you attractive, but this was beyond superficial attraction. The way the correspondent wrote about you made it evident they weren't attracted simply by your appearance, although your beauty was undeniable. The attention to the details, the specific compliments on your adorable habit of petting every stray dog or cat you find, how you're so kind and always give compliments to strangers, how lovely and heart-warming was your laugh, how you bit your lip when you were really concentrated, or how you brightly smiled at anyone who talked to you. No, you were convinced this wasn't just someone trying to get into your pants. And the idea of someone being so in love with you? You could already feel giggles and butterflies appearing in your belly.
That's how your secret correspondence started. You replied to the first letter, left it in the book as they asked, and just a few days later, there was another envelope in your locker. You never caught the deliverer, but the mystery added to the thrill. Who could this secret admirer possibly be?
You suspected that you had already talked to them, given their compliments on your voice, your laughter, your kindness, your sweetness. But you didn't have enough clues to guess. That's when you decided to ask them more questions about them. "Would you like to meet sometime?" "What do you look like?" "Have we met in person?" "What are your favorite movies?"
But your secret admirer only kept you guessing. They revealed very little about themselves, playfully teasing you for your curiosity every time you pressed to meet them. You didn't entirely mind their hidden identity, though. There was a thrill in not knowing who you were talking to. And by now, it was easy to ignore the part of your brain that alerted you of the dangers of not knowing a thing about your correspondent'sidentity. You were too caught up in the fantasy to consider the dangers. Besides, they were so sweet to you, how could they be harmful?
You should've seen the red flags. They should've scared you off instead of turning you on.
The letters started getting more intense, more obviously creepy. You knew they were stalking you. You knew they observed you at school, and sometimes in other places. You knew they were jealous of you, hated to see you laughing at another person's joke or hugging one of your friends. You knew they wanted you all for themselves. But still, that wasn't enough for you to cut them off.
Why? Well, besides your (terrible) taste for people with red flags, they also were so nice to you. Not only did you receive letters, but they also started sending you gifts. Sometimes a cute bracelet or necklace, an adorable stuffed animal(you told them about your prized collection), something related to your favorite movies or shows. You weren't necessarily materialistic, but the gifts were so thoughtful and attentive, how could you not fall for your admirer even more? And when you needed something, it was quickly provided for you. You weren't sure how, but they always knew when you forgot an item you needed, or when you were craving something for a while, somehow these things would appear to you.
Maybe that's when you started thinking more rationally. It started feeling slightly weird that someone you didn't know knew so much about you that whatever thing you didn't notice, they did. I mean, how could anyone else know you forgot your notebook at school, or that you had been craving your favorite snack all week? The only person this close to you was your best friend, Amber, but come on, she was your best friend. And of course, you didn't entertain this thought for long. It was more probable that you had a creepy stalker. Which was a problem, because now you had your admirer and Ghostface to worry about.
So, you decided it was better to ignore them. You stopped reading the letters, keeping them all sealed in a box under your bed. You stopped sending letters. And the best safety measure you could think of was to confide in your best friend.
You had invited Amber to come over after school. And now the two of you were in your bed, a movie playing on your TV but neither of you watching it. You were lying on your belly on the opposite side of your bed, and you looked over your shoulder to meet Amber's gaze, who was lying with her head on your pillow, her legs resting on your back.
"Can I tell you something?" You ask, already knowing the answer. She was your best friend for a reason.
"Duh," she replies without taking her eyes off her phone. But she meets your gaze once you shift your position, sitting on your knees to face her. Her attention is fully yours now.
"I've been receiving letters from a secret admirer..." you start, and you can't fight the small smile forming in your face, despite your concern about the situation. "For a while now. But they got kinda creepy and now I'm worried."
She leans closer to you, putting her hand on your leg. "Wait, seriously? Are you okay?" She asks, clearly worried about you. You expected that. Knowing her for so long, it was obvious to you how protective and caring she was.
"Yeah, at least for now," you chuckle, but her concerned expression doesn't fade. "I stopped writing to them, and I'm ignoring their letters. Hopefully they'll notice soon and leave me alone. I just... don't want them to hurt me, y'know? Like if I stop answering them, and they come up to me..." You don't finish the sentence, dreading the consequences of that scenario.
"Hey, don't worry, [name]," Amber reassures you, her grip tightening slightly to comfort you. "I'm not letting anyone hurt you," her voice is gentle and soothing, reminding you of how lucky you were to have her in your life.
You really valued her friendship. She was so caring, you had no doubt of her devotion to you. You knew how much she loved you. She always worried about the people you hung out with, always kept an eye on you to make sure you're safe and comfortable, and wherever you went, she followed. Whether it was at parties, or school, or on your walk home, you knew you had her to protect you. She had always been like that. And you loved it.
Maybe that's why you suspected her when questioning your admirer's identity. Or what attracted you to them. Something you liked in her and found in them too. Which is why you were able to let go of them. You thought you'd miss them, and wouldn't resist the urge to write them back. But you had her, and you realized that in time. I mean, did you notice the way she got all worried and protective over you after you told her about the letters?
Oh, you started noticing too much. And you started falling for her.
What a classic, falling in love with your best friend. But who could blame you? She was perfect for you. Sweet, caring, protective, a bit possessive and jealous, but everyone has flaws. And you needed a source of protection and reassurance. Your friend had just been attacked, her sister too, and a guy(who creeped you out, by the way) was murdered. It was scaring the shit out of you. You needed Amber. And she liked that.
The Ghostface attacks made you paranoid. You could barely sleep, you were easily startled, you didn't answer any calls from unidentified numbers in fear it was Ghostface. You wanted to disappear until this mess was over, but life went on.
Amber, as attentive as she always is, quickly noticed the effect these attacks had on you. And her support never changed. You felt safe with her, even when you knew you would still be a target, with or without her company. She had this invincible aura, at least to you, that made you think no one would ever mess with her. And if you had her, no one would lay a hand on you. That logic had always worked, because no weird guys came up to you, and if people flirted with you and got too friendly, she would cut them off in a second. You had nothing to worry about.
That's what gave you the courage to keep living as if everything was normal, at least most of the time. If you weren't around her, you were texting her, or facetiming her. You got even closer to her than you already were. And your poor heart had to deal with that. Your feelings for her, that you tried to ignore for the sake of your friendship, were bubbling up. You started thinking the butterflies you felt in your stomach had started living in there.

Farewell to All the Earthly Remains
Synopsis: He loved them. That’s why he had to make this decision no matter how much it hurt. It was for the better. This was how it should’ve been.

(here’s the oberon x reader i promised you 😭😭 i cant believe im doing this but hey, oberon lore and you get to know a little more about him so win i guess. i have been wanting to write more for him tbh. i don’t think i’ll put him on the list since he’s like… my oc, yknow? i think it’ll be more of like a treat? not everyone knows who he is so yeah.)
Tumblr media
Every now and then, there was a young man who’d sit on the bench by the tree as a crow or two had hung around him. Sometimes there were three, sometimes four. He seemed to always have food for them, and every time, not a moment too soon, the crows would be there waiting for him. Then, while the crows went on about their day, he’d simply people-watch his time away.
He’d almost never actually speak to anyone who passed by unless they spoke to him first. Sometimes, those people scared off the crows, but sometimes they stayed. Sometimes the children who pass by want to play with the crows, and he’d have to tell them how they should handle them. Sometimes, people would observe from afar. They would admire, question, maybe even feel a little uncomfortable knowing what crows tend to represent.
A bad omen. An impending change. An unexpected change. Death.
Maybe sometimes it looked a little unsettling, but that didn’t seem to stop you from watching from afar. Every time he was there, whether alone or someone had him preoccupied, you’d watch him and try to build up your courage to talk to him.
You slowly approached him from behind, but you didn’t get very close as the man turns around and crows suddenly flew away. Only now did you realize his eyes are red. His eyes had widened and looked back to the crows. A part of him seemed a bit startled and sad that the crows left.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to scare them off,” you quickly apologized.
When he looked back to you, he smiled, “It’s alright. They always come back anyway. They just need to get to know you, that’s all,”
You nervously laughed, “Is it alright if I sit with you?”
“Of course. I don’t mind at all. I don’t think they mind too much either,”
He’s referring to the crows. Either way, you were still nervous as you sat down next to him.
“I believe it is considered rude to sneak up on someone the way you did,” he suddenly adds.
You immediately tensed, “I-I didn’t mean to be rude! I just didn’t know how I should approach you and I’m honestly not very good at this kind of stuff and-!”
He laughs, cutting you off, “Please, don’t stress yourself over such things. I understand not everyone can start a conversation with a stranger, but maybe it’s not the best first impression, yes?”
“You’re right. I’m sorry,”
“Let’s start over then. My name is Oberon,”
You looked at him and smiled, “[Name], it’s nice to meet you,”
At this point, one of the crows came back. It was like they were testing the waters and slowly walking closer. Then another came back, and then another.
“If you don’t mind me asking… Did you happen to be named after a moon?” You bring up to try and keep the conversation going. Although, maybe it wasn’t the best thing to bring up.
“Oh? Do you happen to be interested in astrology?”
“Yeah, kind of,”
“You’d be correct then. My name came from a moon of Uranus,”
More crows came back and both of your attentions had been redirected to them. Oberon seemed to have more food for them and began to give all of them their share. One of the crows eventually made their way up to his shoulder while another had went to perch on his hand. The others were either on the bench or interacting with each other on the grass.
“Did you name any of them?”
He lets out a faint laugh, “If I did, I would grow too attached to them. I figured it’d be best if I didn’t. They are still wild animals, after all,”
“That’s true. You can’t really cage a wild animal,” you continued to watch the crows seemingly all accept Oberon as one of their own.
It looked rather strange. It was like a variation of the ones who would be surrounded by pigeons.
…you feel so awkward. He was welcoming and didn’t mind company or a conversation, but it felt so difficult to talk to him. You kept your hands on your lap, completely tense. You dragged yourself into this, and it’d be even more awkward if you just decided to bail now. Maybe even embarrassing.
Oberon suddenly holds a few seeds to you, “Do you want to try feeding them?”
“H-Huh? Are you sure?”
“You’re tense. Maybe this can help you relax,”
You look at him for a moment, then down at the seeds. The crows already looked interested, but seeing as you were there too, they didn’t go for it. With a shaky hand, you accepted to try it.
“Take a deep breath and relax yourself,” he continues, “Avert your gaze, let the birds know you’re not a threat to them. They’ll know the food’s safe. They’ll warm up to you,”
You did as he said. You calmed yourself as you stared out towards the field. You can hear the crows making small noises. It was like they were discussing if they should trust you or not. You can see a crow in the corner of your eye inching closer and closer to your hand before it snatches up a seed and moves back.
It was silent, and then another decided to try it too.
“See? They’re not going to hurt you. They just want to talk,”
You blinked and turned to Oberon. He was talking to the crow on his hand. Before you knew it, the other crows had already taken all of the seeds you had. You did feel more relaxed, but they still seemed cautious about you. Trust with birds doesn’t come easy after all.
One had suddenly come up to your blind spot and cawed at you. When they see you jump slightly, it jumps off and onto the ground to join the others. It was like they were laughing. You can hear Oberon holding back his laughter, and you couldn’t help but laugh yourself.
The two of you would continue talking for a while. Time was practically lost. The crows would eventually start moving away, some even leaving. Oberon seems to take that as a sign and stands up.
“I suppose that’s time, then,”
“Off to do other stuff?”
“By stuff, it’s mostly work,” he admits, “Lots of work to do. This was just my own little break,”
You pulled out your phone to check the time, but then you hesitantly asked, “Do you think we can stay in contact? I’d love to talk more if that’s okay…?”
He looked at you with a surprised expression, but he still smiled, “I’d love that. Would same time tomorrow suffice?”
“Oh, yeah!” You nodded.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then, [Name],”
You watched him leave and observed the remaining crows who stayed behind. There was one who lingered closer to you and sort of pecked at your shoes. Maybe you’ll come here on your own time just for the birds as well.
Tumblr media
You and Oberon have been meeting up quite frequently the past few weeks. Sometimes it was during his routine of feeding his corvids, while others were a bit sudden as you had run into each other. This time, you two ran into each other in a dessert buffet. It had just opened a few days ago and you found the time to have a look, and it seems like he had the same idea.
“To be honest, I didn’t expect you to be into sweets,”
“D-Do I really give off such an impression?” He stuttered, “I try to make it a habit to eat different kinds of food. I was hoping maybe this buffet could have something new,”
You smiled, “I think I heard they have quite a variety of treats. I wonder what kind of cake they have,”
“I’m hoping that they have a red velvet cake. I’ve never tried it before,”
“I’m pretty sure they do. I saw a video of someone reviewing it already which is why I even came here, actually,”
He turns to you with a smile, “Oh? Looks like you already know what’s in here,”
“Only a few things! Maybe they added new stuff? Even though it’s only been a few days…?”
“Only one way to find out, then,”
The two of you were given a table that was on the second floor which did give you a good view. Once that was settled, you were free to get whatever you’d like. There was a wide variety you could choose from. They even had some sandwiches you could choose. After a few minutes of deciding, your plate was filled with some of your favorites. The table was still empty when you came back. Looks like Oberon is still searching around, so you sit down and place your plate and cup of your preferred drink down. You didn’t get too much as you can always go back down to get more if you wanted to.
About a minute passes by and Oberon came back with two plates full of treats. He found the red velvet cake and cupcake, he had some eclairs, croissant, macarons… He might as well eat everything in this buffet.
“Wow. Didn’t think you’d REALLY love these,” you laughed.
His face turns red in embarrassment, “Everything looked so good! I couldn’t decide!”
You take another bite out of what you had picked up, “You can leave your plates here. I’ll watch ‘em while you get something to drink,”
“Thanks,”
He carefully places them down and almost runs back down the stairs. The sight of that was amusing, and looking at his plate… It’s taking all of your strength to not steal one of them. He won’t notice, right? Right?
No, no. That’s rude. He probably won’t be too happy about it. Who knows how he’d react? You looked away and continued eating your own to try and not think about it. It doesn’t take too long for him to return with a cup. You watched as sparkles seemingly appeared in his eyes as he ate. Hell, you swear you can see sparkles surrounding him.
Even after you got your second plate and finished what you had picked up, he pushed for a fourth plate to get whatever he hadn’t tried. It was pretty impressive to see he can eat that much, and it was nice to see such a happy look on his face. In the end, he seemed satisfied with the experience.
You two stayed to chat for a little while longer, even going back down to grab another drink. Oberon offered to pay when the topic of the bill came up and you didn’t mind, but you still felt like you could’ve at least paid for what you ate. He did get a lot to eat after all. Even if you offered to pay your share, he would’ve insisted he handle it.
You checked your phone for the time as Oberon offers to walk you home as it started to get dark, which you thanked him for. It also meant a little more time with him.
You lightly shoulder bumped him, “Did you have fun?”
“Of course I did,” he smiles, “The food was good, we had a very nice view… I had really fun with you,”
You tried not to blush at that comment, but you can already feel your cheeks heating up, “We should go together again some time. What do you think?”
“I’ll let you know whenever I can. Of course, as long as your schedule allows you to,”
“Oh yeah, that reminds me. I never asked what you do for work, so I hope you don’t mind me asking now,”
“Hm, what if I keep you in the dark there for now?”
“Sounds mysterious. Alright, fine,” you smile.
As you continued to walk, you notice that Oberon seems to like looking up at the stars. There wasn’t that many out tonight, but that didn’t stop him. Part of him looked a little sad though. You eventually pass by the graveyard your home happened to be close to and Oberon’s attention immediately shifted towards it. It was almost strange, but maybe he lost someone. You’re not one to pry.
He stopped walking all of a sudden, “Do you think those people were afraid?”
“Huh?” You stopped to turn to him, “Afraid of what?”
“Of dying. Were they scared in their final moments?”
You didn’t know what to say at first. As you looked to the countless tombstones that scattered across the field, that same question would repeat in your mind. Were they scared? Were their final moments filled with fear that they wouldn’t be at peace?
“I think… Some of them were. I mean, who wouldn’t be, right?” You hum, “But I also think some felt happy even in death,”
“Why’s that?” He questioned, his voice almost in a whisper.
“Maybe they were happy with how their life came out to be. Or maybe they were surrounded by family and knew they were the last ones they could see,”
Oberon is silent. You turn to him to see his sorrowful expression. It almost looked like he didn’t believe a word you just said, but he doesn’t speak of it.
You gently tug on his sleeve, “Oberon, are you… Afraid of death?”
“I wouldn’t say that,” he quietly admits, “I’m just… I’m just confused. Even when you led a life you wanted to live, one where you accomplished everything you wanted to. Even when you’re surrounded by people who love you, wouldn’t you be at least a little afraid?”
You looked down, hesitating to hold his hand, “Yeah, maybe that’s how some felt deep down,”
“Do you believe there is an afterlife?”
“I like to think there is. I mean, that can’t be it, right? Our lives suddenly come to an end and suddenly there’s just…nothing?”
“Is that why some are afraid? There may just be nothing on the other side?”
You looked down, “Maybe, but I don’t think they thought of that even in their final moments,”
“…I hope you’re right,”
Both of you continued to stare at the graveyard in silence. You really do wonder why he brought that up.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know why I brought up such a topic. Come on, we’re almost there, right?”
“Oh, yeah,”
For the rest of the way, you two walk side by side and in silence. He would walk you to your door, say good night and goodbye, and you’d watch him disappear into the dark through your window. Something about him was strange, but strange in a rather interesting way. You wonder if the feeling is mutual.
Tumblr media
When you awoke, you were… in your room. It was just as you had left it. Was that a dream? A very, very long dream that felt all too real? You leaned forward as you gently rubbed your head. It was such an odd dream, yet with the remaining moments of what you remember from it, you can’t help but feel warm all of a sudden.
That man you’ve been meeting with. He was sweet, gentle, and patient. He loved the bakery you invited him to. He loved crows and fed them whenever he could. His view on death was… interesting. He was afraid. He was confused when others didn’t seem to be afraid of their end and rather embraced it. Had he lost someone before? Is that why he was afraid? Maybe you should ask him next time you meet.
Just as you were going to stand up, you hear footsteps approaching. Your door suddenly opens and a strange man entered. He had a black mask and black horns. There were two pairs of wings on him, one located on his head while the other pair rested beside his waist. There was even a halo above his head.
An angel? You must be dreaming again…
The white eyes on the mask almost looked sad when he saw you, “I apologize for the intrusion. I’m sure you have many questions, and I assure you they will be answered. Most, at least. It depends on the question,”
You tried to stay calm just to make sure this was indeed a dream. You’ll wake up any minute now, right?
“How did you get in my house?”
He shakes his head, “While it may appear to be, this isn’t a house. It’s a room, your room. Where you are is my realm that resides in the line between life and death. It only appears as this because this place is where you feel the safest,”
You feel your heart beginning to pound against your chest. Between life and death? Realm?
“W-Who are you?”
The man pauses as he went to pull a chair over and sat down in front of you, “You…may refer to me as Mr. Sol,”
“What are you?”
“I suppose the closest thing I can call myself in your words is a grim reaper, but I am not here to collect your soul. Perhaps I can describe it as…guiding your soul,”
Grim reaper? Soul? He’s not an angel?
“Guiding my soul? Where?”
“That’s for you to decide,”
Mr. Sol has been strangely open about answering such questions. It’s hard to tell if he is lying or telling the truth. It may be the mask, but his tone seemed genuine.
“I don’t understand. Am… Am I dead?”
Mr. Sol looked down for a moment, and the white eyes closed, “Not yet,”
“What happened to me?”
His eyes open at that question, “You don’t remember?”
When you shake your head, he starts looking around. A few drawers open and eventually, a file is pulled out from one of them. He opens it, giving it a quick read before closing the file and holding it to you.
“This will explain everything. From the moment you were born to your eventual end,” he says, “But it is up to you to read it,”
You stare at the file then briefly looked at him. Your entire life, and it’s in a small file that he holds in his hands. Hesitantly, you grab the file and open it. A picture of you, your name, your age, your date of birth, your family, your school life… It was all there. The final paragraph detailing your fate was suddenly cut off, but the moments that happened before was all there. You were dying.
You look up at him, “You said you will guide me to where I want to go. What do you mean by that?”
Mr. Sol pauses yet again. He crosses his legs and his hands rest on his lap, “[Name], I am giving you the choice to continue where your life had left off or to end it. I am giving you the choice to go back, to wake up in the living world continue with the life you planned for yourself. I am giving you a second chance,”
“And if I say no?”
“Death awaits,” was all he said. His tone had shifted slightly as he said that.
It was an easy choice. Anyone would want to continue living. Anyone would give anything for a second chance when absolutely nothing was being asked for in return. You’d even see him again. You wonder if he had tried contacting you during that moment. He must be worried.
“This is the only chance I get, right?”
He nods, “Yes. It is all I can give you,”
“So we won’t be meeting again, huh?”
“It’d be best if we didn’t…”
Should you? The answer feels obvious, so you finally give him your answer.
“I’d like to go back,”
Mr. Sol nods and stands up, holding out a hand to you. He pulls you up to your feet and suddenly pulls you closer to him. He held your hand close to where his heart should be.
“I must tell you, once we go back, you won’t remember your time with me. You won’t remember a thing about me,” he lets out a shaky breath, almost like he was holding back tears, “I’m sorry,”
Tumblr media
The crows seem to like hanging around the bench you often sit at. You’re not quite sure why. It’s not like you had any food on you for them. One of them was even sitting on the bench, looking up at you almost like you were an old friend. You only stared back, wondering why a flock had decided to hang out around with you.
One suddenly flew off and soon, the others followed one by one. You watched them leave and begin to surround a man walking down the path. He had held out a hand for one to perch onto.
Ah, maybe they were only just waiting for him. Crows can remember faces after all, and perhaps they accepted him as their friend. It was strange. You’d think it would be pigeons one would be surrounded by, but this man had attracted and befriended them. He must be very knowledgeable with them, maybe even grew up with them.
You smiled, stifling a laugh. It’s not often you see something like that, but it is a sight to behold. You wonder just how long it must’ve taken the flock to accept him.
The man continued down the path beyond your sight. The crows follows his steps and look up at him, almost begging for more food. The one on his hand caws, turning its head towards their usual meeting spot.
He shouldn’t have allowed you to get so close in the first place. He shouldn’t have allowed himself to get so attached.
Tumblr media
I am actually ashamed to say I made an Oberon disguising as a human and I hate it so much he looks like a generic anime boy

Siren Friend x Reader
So this is really late to the bandwagon :((( But here we are, resident yandere Friend! But Siren version cause I can't stop thinking about the chatbot... :P
Tumblr media
You work a nice job, decent pay, the works.
You live near a beach in a decently populated city, you’re single and ready to mingle. But there’s no pressure! After all, your job is so tiring… There’s literally no room to romance people… But he'd change that.
Nothing too big, just studying an obscure species that emerged a couple months ago that look pretty similar to mermaids, mermen and other humanoid fish folk from mythology.
Of course, you weren’t too bothered, you just fed them and kept them occupied whilst other researchers collected data. You were more of a mer caretaker than an actual scientist.
Just the other day however… you found this really cute one washed up against the shoreline of your beachfront house !
You honestly didn’t expect much out of living so close to the water… but if that’s what it takes for pretty guys to get close to you, you weren’t arguing.
He was unconscious, dying in the sand or something when you chucked him into a bathtub.
Dark blue skin and hair the color of the sun, god, you couldn’t help but admire the pretty merman who was now chilling in your bathtub.
If you looked hard enough, you’d barely be able to see the way that the lightbulb in the ceiling catches the scales of his face in a way that makes the patches on his shoulders, cheeks and abdomen shimmer in a glamorous way.
Gold linings went up and down his body, marking contours and every dip in his body. They sectioned his abdomen and melded into his tail, they trailed up the sides of his neck to the back of his… webbed ears?
Wow, you’d probably stare forever at him until--!
You were busy admiring just how elegant the siren looked under the yellow-tinted lighting of your bathroom before you noticed his eyelashes fluttering awake under the water. How long he’d been out for, he wasn’t sure. When he saw the human that he’d always… admired from a distance hovering over him, he thought he had died and gone to fish heaven! He poked his head out of the water, black eyes looking up at you through his eyelashes, the lower half of his face obscured by the water. Water droplets accumulated on his long eyelashes every time he blinked. Which was quite a lot, seeing as how the unapproachable, ethereal human you were in his eyes, was right in front of him and had even saved his life ! He was the only one you'd saved, right? That made him special, right? He let out a small chirp in response, a little mix of shock and awe to which you awkwardly replied with, “Heeeeey?”
To be fair, you weren’t necessarily versed in talking to merfolk. It wasn’t your job- Well, it kind of was…
But you had context clues! You had diagrams and data to go off on in the lab !
This time around, you were too busy ogling the goddamn merperson to call your boss and tell him about a new discovery.
You were, as the kids call it, ‘faking it till you made it’ when you conversed with him.
Honestly, what were you supposed to do with a random attractive siren stranger in your house?! Just kick him out?!
Nah, you'd have to let him stay. After all, you didn't know what tests they did on the other merfolk, but honestly? You didn't want to know.
You just wanted to protect this one. You weren't sure why.
Maybe if you paid any attention the studies by scholars, you would've realized about their charmspeak and how they can lull you into a hazy state of mind...
But to the siren who’d only ever been enamored with you from afar? Only ever gazed at your smile, waiting for a day it could be displayed to him? Only ever hung onto every morsel of speech he could make out from that pretty mouth of yours?
He was hoping you’d let him stay with you… forever.

Tumblr media
you were so beautiful. so fucking beautiful.
he felt like a creep staring at you like this from afar but any closer and he'll most definitely regurgitate the black coffee he had earlier.
you weren't aware of him, both a sad and convenient thing. you seemed to be having a really fun conversation with your friends, boldly talking with exaggerated body language. you looked like the fun kind; the kind of person to tell a joke that'll have everybody choking, punching each other's arms and coughing. the kind of person he wants to be. or be with. it depends really.
he assumed you'd said something mind-boggling because right after saying it, your friends collectively gasped with varying levels of amusement. that made him snap out of his rêverie and go back to watching four of his friends display a concerning lack of rhythm at DDR, while the others winced or held in their laughter.
well, he was in no lack of bustling conversations himself, what with the rivals-turned-friends that he's currently with. still, it doesn't soothe the ache in his heart. the ache to be sociable, spontaneous, easy-going, calm, funny, witty or even just uncaring if that meant not being constantly on edge about everything.
gazing at his friends, he felt a bitter taste in his mouth. they were all essentially... perfect.
reo - who was stomping arrows with 0 coordination - was the blueprint of the ideal human, yukimiya and aryu looked like magazine cover features in the making, nagi possessed this aura of nonchalance that really sticks with you, and bachira could say anything and everything with zero shame or regret. he didn't have any of that. and he hated that.
he hated himself for that. and he hated that others probably disliked him for the same reasons.
"ahhhh, come on, no negativity. now's not the time," mumbling to himself, he placed his hands on either side of his face, slightly smushing his cheeks, adding some adorableness to his somewhat sombre expression. he turned his head back to you. you had started a game of air hockey with your friends and from where you were standing, he could admire you even better.
the benefit that came with being quiet is being discreet, and that allowed him to notice a number of tiny things about you. your rapidly changing expressions, your eyes (that he had come to be particularly fond of in the last 4 minutes) that darted in all directions to catch the puck and the habit you had of readjusting your bag's strap across your torso. was it a tic? he wondered if you two shared any negative qualities, thinking it'll help him feel more normal, then realised that's a horrible way of thinking about a pretty stranger.
he started to beat himself mentally, punishing his brain and imagination for trying to ruin your possibly perfect character; you didn't deserve that. he didn't deserve to be thinking about you like this, you probably had a boyfriend, or a girlfriend, or just someone in your life that'll laugh at a loser like him for wanting to imagine a chance with you.
he heard the game-over buzzer of the air hockey machine start to sound out. you and your friend lost, and the winning pair declared a rematch. he watched you and your group talk a bit before they all started to walk away. they were heading towards the token machine to get some more, and you stayed to look after the bags they had left on the floor. pulling out your phone, you started scrolling through your gallery to waste time.
you looked so peaceful, he so badly wanted to know what you were thinking of. for no particular reason, just to have an inner scope into your brain. hands still on his face, he gazed at your tranquil being through his thick lashes as his head was still a bit lowered. he probably looked a little silly like this, like a kindergartener ("tokimitsu!") admiring his first crush playing in mud ("hey tokimitsu!"), but you made him feel so many butterflies by just ("tokimitsu?") being ther-
"TOKIMITSU!!" "AH!? WHAT? WHAT IS IT? I'M SORRY FOR WHAT I DID EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!". he apologized for... nothing in particular to karasu, who had an unnerved expression plastered on his face, and next to him stood yukimiya with one eyebrow raised. he could see from his peripheral view that reo, bachira, isagi and otoya were almost done with their round of DDR.
"DUDE? CAN YOU ANSWER WHEN WE CALL YO-" "karasu, stop yelling. we're in public." "suck my dick. anyway, are you okay, man? what were you looking at?". tokimitsu didn't respond to that, stuttering, "haaa, it's nothing really. just lost in my thoughts. hehe," but his eyes betrayed him by darting in your direction against his will, making the two boys follow his line of sight.
karasu immediately started to chuckle with a bewildered expression. "tokimitsu, were you CHECKING OUT that girl? i didn't know you had it in you. i have to say, dude, i'm proud of you. you're finally turning into a man."
with a newfound sense of shame, tokimitsu started to defend his image, replying, "c-checking her out? no, i-i-i was just admiring her. I MEAN! no. i wasn't staring at her. she's just a girl y'know- NOT THAT IT'S A BAD THING TO BE JUST A NORMAL PERSON. I DON'T KNOW HER, I SWEAR. I MEAN....". of course, any person with eyes could see that he was totally fibbing. behind them, the other guys started to group around the three after hearing the words "tokimitsu" and "checking out" and "girl". it's just those things that you NEVER hear in the same sentence.
bachira was the first to join in on the fun, asking, "what's going on?" "NOTHI-" "SHUT UP YOU! guys. form a circle."
with a strong shove, tokimitsu was pushed aside by karasu who forced everyone into a circle where he was clearly mumbling god knows what in a mischievous manner. after a few moments and a couple nods, like a hivemind, they all raised their heads and looked at him with something peculiar in their eyes.
he didn't like that. not even a bit.
"umm, what's going on?," he inquired timidly, feeling that nothing good was about to happen. karasu was the first to move towards him, placing a hand on his shoulder with his head down. "we're sorry for everything." confused, tokimitsu stared at him with an almost innocent sort of confusion. "huh." "nagi, bachira, yukimiya. do your thing."
before tokimitsu could register what's going on, he felt 6 arms wrap around his torso and both arms. following that, otoya and reo joined, placing their hands on his chest and stomach to push him backwards in a combined effort. to say he was lost and and confused was an understandment. why were they dragging him away like a captive?
then it dawned on him. they're trying to drag him to you.
they're forcing him to speak to you.
in the microsecond that this realisation hit him, he immediately forced his feet into the ground and tried to slip his arms out of their grasp, which, considering just how jacked he was, proved quite easier than expected. their grip on him started to falter but they seemed to persevere, desperately trying to make this work. grunting, they doubled the force and accelerated their movements, forcing him to take backward steps. when he noticed that the DDR machines were leaving his sight, that's when the panic really started to settle in.
"COME ON GUYS, JUST LET ME GO! THIS ISN'T FUNNY! I DON'T WANT THIS, JUST PLEASE, LET ME GO, I'M BEGGING!," he began to somewhat shriek while grabbing at their sleeves or their hands and trying to rid himself of them with no avail. "NO! WE'RE DOING THIS FOR YOU!" "BUT I CAN'T, I DON'T WANT IT."
on any normal day, you would've waited for your friends with no concerns or worries in the world, but when there's a group of boys hauling another boy in what seemed to be your exact direction, you assumed you had to be ready for whatever was about to happen. however, a blue haired boy speedwalked from behind and past them, reaching you in a few seconds' time. he stuck out his hand, you understood he wanted to shake yours.
reciprocating the gesture, he shook your hand and spoke, "karasu tabito. no time for formalities. okay, see, here's the thing," he swiftly put his arm around your back and obliged you to look at tokimitsu being held captive and inching closer to you. "ya' see that guy? the one with the blue backpack? yeah, exactly, the one with the red and green sweater. see, he sooo has the hots for you, he thinks you're really pretty. but unfortunately, he's too much of a coward to do anything so we're delivering him to you. do with that what you will."
he removed his arm and placed them on his hips, watching his mastermind plan come to fruition. you, on the other hand, got the gist of what's going on but you couldn't exactly say you weren't still lost. after some more yelling and resisting, the five guys managed to displace tokimitsu and have him right in front of you. turning him around so he would be face forward, he promptly stopped his movements after seeing that you were right there. right in front of him. gazing at him with confusion but very bright amusement.
he felt his mouth dry up, words stuck at back of his throat with no way of coming out. not in these conditions, not after you watched him get hauled like some freak. karasu winked at him before heading off, followed by the others who gave him thumbs up and whisper-yelled encouraging words.
you watched them leave, then turned your head to gaze at tokimitsu, taking in the redness of his face and the shock in his green, doe eyes. they were really mesmerising. you gave him a grin with your eyebrows raised. "hey."
that simple word made him crumble, sending him into overdrive. your voice was sweeter than anything he had imagined it to be. he tried to muster the courage to speak but miserably failed, stuttering and falling over nonsensical syllables. he gave up in no time, burying his face in his hands, closing his eyes and imagining himself elsewhere far, far away.
he expected you to snarl and ditch him or to even spit harsh words for wasting your time like this. but you did none of those.
he felt a few gentle taps on one of his hands, compelling him to peer at you through his fingers. you wore a good-natured smile on your face, looking content rather than annoyed. "i get it, really. i get super anxious over certain things too. but your friend already told me about what you want to say to me."
oh oh. that couldn't be good. he pressed his hands further into his skin without looking away, waiting for the oncoming rejection and getting turned down.
"you're really cute yourself. and handsome. whichever you like more. could you give me your hand?"
was this real? were you real? no. you had to be an angel of some sort. mindlessly removing both hands from his face and sticking one out, he watched as you took out a ballpoint pen from your bag's outer pocket and scribbled something on his palm.
you lifted your eyes and spoke, "my LINE username. we'll talk on there. is that okay with you?," he retracted his hand to read your handle, noticing the smiley next to where you scribbled. he nodded shyily, not closing his palm so he doesn't sweat off his only method of reconnecting with you. you graced him with another toothy grin before turning around to see your friends waving at you. ah. you had to leave.
you spun around to look at him one last time, waving and taking slow steps backwards. noticing that, he finally uttered his first words to you, "w-wait! what's...what's your name?," determined to put a name on your perfect being. your smile grew a bit more, then you answered, "(last name). (last name) (first name). and you are?"
"tokimitsu. tokimitsu a-aoshi."
"well then, i'll learn more about you later, tokimitsu. bye!" you spun on your foot, speedwalking to where your friends stood. he watched you tell them something that made them all look up and peer at him, then giggle in a very teenage girl fashion, before exiting the arcade, you with them.
tokimitsu stood for a few more seconds before staring down at the palm you had previously gripped with your tender hands. the reality of what just took place hit him harder than anything, the astonishment he was feeling not helping his heart's dangerous rhythm.
he didn't hesitate to immediately copy your LINE user on a piece of paper, since he could never underestimate his sweaty palms. rewriting it, he found himself imitating you and drawing a fun doodle next to your username. except, he didn't draw a smiley like you did.
he drew a heart instead.

On Questioning An Archetrope
So I'm turning over the concept of a potential paladin (or something similar) archetrope in my brain now.
I have... kind of always viewed myself as a guardian. I've been the Mom-friend, the one people go to for advice, for practically as long as I can remember. I have a protective streak a mile wide, partly due to my territorial instincts from my dragonself. I don't really want to talk about it publicly, but suffice to say that growing up I had what I would now, for lack of better words, call a rich imagined reality wherein I (and my few closest friends, though I hung onto it the longest) was a capital-G Guardian, a hero of blade and armor, a protector of the world.
Later on, in high school, those same friends and I took on a more realistic protective streak, primarily in the form of a habit of adopting girls who a) had just been through bad breakups and/or b) were being harassed/stalked by creepy boys and literally bodyguarding them throughout the day. I still fantasize about scenarios where I get to protect people, often strangers, on a regular basis, for no real reason other than it makes me feel good. I want to be that. I want to be a protector, a shield and sword for those who need it.
My first D&D character was a paladin, and a fairly stereotypical one (although not fully Lawful Stupid). Shail is a tiefling who was abandoned at a temple doorstep as a baby after they were born, raised by one of the priests as their father, and later took up arms after being inspired by a visiting paladin and took the Oath of Devotion. They were my first experiment with they/them pronouns. I am realizing their choice of class may also have been a bit of projection.
I don't know how much of this is inherent to me and how much is something I chose and how much is something I want to choose.
A brief tangent: it so happens that I very recently saw the musical Man of La Mancha, which is based on Don Quixote. While I was vaguely familiar with the story of Don Quixote, I'd never actually read or seen it in full in any form until now. I did not expect to be as touched by it as I was. Don Quixote is... for all we often make fun of him for the windmill incident, ultimately I think Don Quixote is someone we could all stand to learn from, and perhaps even to aspire to. To stubbornly, doggedly, adamantly adhere to honor and justice and a view of the world where good prevails in the end, to fight for what's right no matter the odds, to swear yourself to these things despite the way the rest of the world laughs at you - perhaps the world would be a better place if more of us were Don Quixote in this.
"A quest?" "How you must fight? And it doesn't matter whether you win or lose, if only you follow the quest."
"To dream the impossible dream. To fight the unbeatable foe. To bear with unbearable sorrow. To run where the brave dare not go. To right the unrightable wrong. To love pure and chaste from afar. To try when your arms are too weary. To reach the unreachable star."
Perhaps the recency of this exposure to Don Quixote, and my thoughts and feelings about it and about him as a character, is influencing how I'm reacting to the exposure to archetropy. Or perhaps my reaction to Man of La Mancha is indicative of my resonance with Don Quixote as someone I would argue has an archetropal identity (if of the Knight Errant rather than of the Paladin, though the two really aren't that different) himself. Perhaps both.
Either way, I think it's an admirable thing to take up such a mantle in the face of the world's cruelties - to take up the Guardian's armor and sword again, illogical as it may be, and to aspire to such a lofty ideal as this despite the way the world may consider it foolish or daft.
(And there I go getting poetic prose-y again. Perhaps that's also part of why the paladin archetype appeals to me, ha. I have been known to monologue.)
Even my job can be argued to fall into the paladin - a healer, a helper, a servant who at least tries to value The Good Of The Patient above all else. it's not quite a guardian role - but then, a paladin is often a healer as well.
On top of all of that, there's the fact that when I, out of curiosity and experimentation, put a major problem of indecision I've been facing regarding my current job hunt through the lens of "what would a paladin do," it immediately answered the question with "wouldn't let the difficulty of the task scare them off." Which didn't completely solve my problem, but solves a good solid chunk of it.
So it appears that this may be a helpful tool for me. Even if the thought of "what would Xenk Yendar do" is a slightly silly one. (And yes, Xenk Yendar is an extremely good representation of what paladin looks like to me - and perhaps it's telling that I really latched onto him as a character almost instantly upon watching Honor Among Thieves.)
Perhaps my one big hesitance to latch onto the paladin archetype is the religious connotation of a paladin - while I suppose my relationship with Asclepius could qualify, under the "paladins are also often healers" thought, Asclepius does not cover most of what draws me to the paladin archetype. But a paladin doesn't always have to be religious; in D&D paladins technically draw their power from their oath, Xenk Yendar comes up as an example of a paladin who doesn't obviously seem to have a particular god, and besides none of the alternative archetypes I'm finding or coming up with fit quite as well. The Knight Errant is close, but requires wandering in a way I am thoroughly uncomfortable with (I am still a territorial beast at heart) and also implies seeking evil rather than defending from it.
So... perhaps that's not as big a block as one might think. I'm going to chew on this a while longer, and I'm certainly open to suggestions on similar archetypes for my consideration, but... I might have tripped into a new alterhuman identity. Oops.

So question with all darlings and how they all act towards each other how would they be meeting Pierro’s darling and what would their dynamic be (if that made any sense)?
Read my Yandere! Harbinger fics and the first Darling Crossover here!!
Thanks for your interest in my darlings, Anon!! Savior has officially joined the group (๑・̑◡・̑๑)
꒰ Savior/ Pierro’s Darling ꒱
♡ Savior is the first and oldest darling. Because she is rarely seen by the public and Fatui, few people know of her existence. From afar/ by Pierro’s side, she gives off a mysterious and solemn first impression. But up close, she is regarded as extremely kind and friendly <3
♡ Savior is genuinely eager to interact with the other darlings since she rarely gets to socialize. She’s…bothered by the details of their love lives, and once asked Pierro why so many Harbingers are twisted like him Regardless, she only met each darling after she was broken, so who is she to destroy their false happiness??
ﮩ٨ـﮩﮩ Assistant/ Dottore’s Darling ﮩ٨ـﮩﮩ
♡ Savior is most familiar with Assistant since they’ve known each other for 400+ years. She finds her very smart and capable for a human. During their rare interactions, they engage in long conversations and chess games. Unfortunately, Pierro warns her not to get too close to Dottore and Assistant :<
♡ Assistant became curious about Savior after Dottore once called her a “fascinating albeit off-limits specimen.” She’s noticed that Savior gets tight-lipped whenever she asks about her previous life or mentions the Fatui’s Archon Residue experiments. Who exactly is the Jester’s darling?? For now, she can say that Savior’s company is enjoyable.
⬩ Kitty/ Pantalone’s Darling ⬩
♡ Savior finds Kitty adorable and secretly wishes to pet her cat ears. Because Kitty is the only darling who makes public appearances, Savior asks her for gossip/ info on the Fatui’s diplomatic relations. She was very concerned upon hearing that Kitty once owned a Vision, but the most she can do is socialize with her.
♡ Kitty finds Savior’s friendliness refreshing as a fellow lonely extrovert. She admires her maturity, embroidery, and pretty outfits + veil. On a less genuine note, she knows that befriending Savior could benefit Pantalone’s relationship with Pierro. Best-case scenario, their future children will be friends >:3
✿ Damsel/ Capitano’s Darling ✿
♡ Savior is curious about Damsel since she is the newest darling. She was very surprised to hear that Capitano got married, but recognizes their compatibility and “loving” relationship. Given Damsel’s melancholy disposition, asocial nature, and refusal to talk about her past…….it’s no wonder that Savior feels the need to treat her with extra kindness ;-;
♡ Damsel doesn’t know how to interact with Savior. She finds her kindness too good to be true and questions whether it is genuine—or mere pity. She’ll give her credit for the one time Savior saw her newly-pressed achlys flowers and gave info on the plant. But essentially, the Jester’s darling is a stranger whom she won’t see again for a very long time.
Thank you again for this ask!! It warms my heart whenever someone expresses their love for my darlings, and I'm glad that y'all enjoy Savior's character ヽ(;▽;)ノ

Handsome Stranger
matt stone x reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: where reader falls in love with the stranger in the apartment building across from her; part one.
word count: 1045
note: this is gonna be a softer fic but knowing me will probably spice up eventually. i've had this idea for soooo long but i'm not sure how everyone else will like it so please give me your feedback! <3
also surprise i'm australian so i made the character too... u can just ignore this and pretend she's from wherever you're from :)) so your version doesn't HAVE to be australian, she could have lived there briefly? its not that deep enjoy use your imagination
You'd only just moved to Brooklyn from Australia two months ago. The change was daunting and you were struggling to find your footing in such a new place. Though it'd always been a dream of yours to move to New York, you were still feeling out of place and the home sickness was starting to creep up. You'd heard it takes three months for the homesick feeling to flee, so your goal was to hold out just that little bit longer and try to enjoy the experience.
Coming from a small country town, the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple outside your window evoked a strange sense of comfort for you. You never truly felt alone, even though you were 10,000 miles (you'd had to learn the difference between kilometres and miles) from your friends and family. You'd often sit on your windowsill, as your apartment had no balcony, and watch all the pretty lights, and the cars, and hundreds and hundreds of people who occupied the streets. And more often than you'd like to admit, your eyes would wander to the handsome man in the apartment opposite yours. Your buildings were relatively close to one another, and it was safe to assume he also liked to enjoy the city life from afar. His eyes would often wander to your window as well.
Although you'd never shared a word, he'd become a huge comfort for you, almost a part of your nighttime routine. You'd get home from work around five, shower, play music or watch tv while you made some simple dinner, and then your favourite part; sit by your windowsill with a glass of red and admire your new life. Sometimes you'd read, sometimes you'd catch up on work emails. Most the time, you watched the handsome man in the other building smoke his nightly cigarette. Your buildings were quite high from the bright streets with just enough moonlight that you could just make out each others' faces.
Each night you'd watch the orange light illuminate his face, revealing the deep contours of his sharp bone structure. He'd lean his elbows on the windowsill, enjoying the autumn breeze as much as you, who sat with your back to the right side of the wall with your legs out in front of you, giving you the perfect view of the handsome stranger.
You wondered what kind of person he was. You believed you could tell a lot about a person from their apartment. From what you could see, he was relatively tidy and maybe a minimalistic, a single tall lamp responsible for the warm glow in his space. He wore button up tops and dress pants everyday, making you all the more curious about this man.
Each night after your shared glances and appreciation for the chaos below your buildings, he'd send a wave your way, and you'd always reciprocate, smiling ear to ear. You'd take that as your cue to close the blinds and get into bed.
You nearly missed it, but tonight he didn't wave. Instead, he gestured to himself, then you, then down to the ground. You cocked your head, raising your arms with a laugh he couldn't hear as a means to say "what?" He threw his head back dramatically, repeating his gestures slower and more exaggerated this time. "Oh, you wanna go down there?" You shouted across to him, hearing a faint, echoey, "what?" in return. You laughed again, shaking your head. You mirrored his own gesture back to him, earning yourself an eager nod and a thumbs up from the stranger. You chuckled to yourself as you watched him disappear back into his apartment, your heart racing as you comprehended what you just agreed to.
Only clad in silk pyjamas and slippers, you quickly grabbed your phone and keys and made your way to the elevator. You blood was buzzing through your veins like electricity at the thought of finally getting to hear his voice, to properly see his features in light.
Your heard thrummed in your ears as your elevator reached ground level, and suddenly you didn't want to meet the handsome stranger anymore. Your hands started sweating and you felt sick. You cursed your legs for dragging you out of your warm building and out onto the busy street, a little embarrassed that you were in your pyjamas. Just as you were about to back out, your eyes landed on him, and as if you were in a cliché movie scene, it all suddenly felt fine.
"Hey," he smiled breathlessly, towering over you, the sweetest tooth gap on display.
"Hello," you smiled equally as big, unable to control the blush that wildly painted your cheeks. "I'm Y/N."
"I'm Matt, pleasure to finally meet you." He stuck his hand out for you to shake, ripping a nervous giggle from you. You shook his hand back, still struggling to comprehend the situation.
"Likewise," you blushed even deeper, if possible. He was massive. So tall, broad shoulders. So incredibly masculine, yet the two words you would use to describe him would be handsome or... pretty.
"I'm kind of embarrassed to be out here in my pyjamas," you quietly spoke, moving in close so only he could hear. Your knees nearly gave out when he craned his neck down to hear you better. "I know we just met, but would you like to come up to my apartment?"
Although the words sounded suggestive, neither of you even thought of the invitation in a sexual way. It was like catching up with an old friend. In the elevator, you both pointed out the elephant(s) in the room. His height, your accent. He made fun of the way you said certain words, but you could tell he liked it by the way the corners of his eyes crinkled, and the way his tongue got stuck between his teeth when he'd laugh particularly hard. He was funny. You really liked him. Although you'd just met him, his presence was warm and somewhat felt like home. You couldn't believe the pathetic words that plagued your brain like a teenagers diary. But after he left your apartment at 4am, your stupid heart continued to pang against your ribcage, and your stupid mouth couldn't stop smiling.
pls send asks with ideas, i'd love to have you guys involved xx and if this is boring PLEASE tell me thx

𓆩♡𓆪 let the impulse lead you part 1; nanase haruka 𓆩♡𓆪
Tumblr media
request: may I ask for haruka nanase x shy reader and how their relationship goes from strangers to being in a relationship, please ? Who’ll initiate first, will there be awkward silences, etc etc, I look forward to reading it!
summary: you were also calculated with the things you have to do or have to say, making it more difficult for you to make new friends. As you met Haru in one of your swim courses, you realized that you were attracted to him, without knowing a reason why. All you wanted to do was to say hi but your body and mind just won't allow it, knowing that you're too awkward around strangers, however, your heart still earns for it, even after the course ended. Will Y/N let this be another guy she quietly admires from afar or will she finally listen to her heart and break way from her strict mind and allow her instincts to take over?
pairing: haruka nanase x shy!older female!reader
genre: uni!au, fluff, one year age gap (female is older by one year), strangers to lovers, Haru is more extroverted than reader (and I am living for it)
warning: mentions of water but other than that, nothing special
a/n: after months of putting this aside, I finally got to write this request (I am so so sorry for taking so long to write this) but as a way to compensate (hopefully) by long inactivity, this will be a two part series because I kind of went overboard with it. I'll be releasing the second part soon so look forward to it!
Tumblr media
University will be fun they said. University is where you’ll have friends with all sorts of people they said. University is a place where you’ll experience crazy parties they said. University will be a never forgetting experience they said. But you were somehow able to prove what most people wrong. You were in your second last year of university and yet you have only ever been to one “party” that was more like a gathering and the friend you have is your high school classmate who you both somehow enrolled in the exact same program and classes. Because of that, the two of you become pretty close friends, so technically, you did make a friend in university. Your friend, Gou on the other hand blames your introverted self for your views on university. She’s been trying to get you to open up to people more, trying to interact with others but you’re always found slowly disassociating yourself from the crowd. You were always shy when it came to meeting new people, either taking too long to answer questions, stuttering out replies or just feeling awkward whenever you interacted with others. You never had a problem with being on your own but seeing how you were always the odd one out, and how it seemed like the world was just moving on so fast while you were stuck, you knew you had to sacrifice your timidness to expand your social circle.
Studying marine biology, you weren’t surprised when you were expected the take at least one swimming course. Especially if you were planning on becoming a diver to study marine life. But what you failed to realize is that you only have the pure basics of swimming; that is, to stay floated. The course mentioned how it was open for all levels of swimming but you when you arrived to the first class, you saw people swimming laps professionally. You almost left, thinking it was a swimming club if Gou hadn't stopped you. One particular person caught your eyes. He had slick black hair and blue eyes. Apparently he goes by Haru but you weren't sure because you've never spoken to him, only heard from his friends. Haru wasn't much of a talker so you assumed he was a new swimmer like you but you were completely wrong when you saw him dive into the pool, swimming gracefully. Your eyes were fixated on him whenever he swam. There was just something from him that caught your eyes, yet you still couldn't find the guts to talk to him.
"Y/N, it's starting to get a little creepy that your eyes are glued to him whenever he swims." Gou came out of the change rooms and sat beside you at the edge of the pool. There was still a few minutes before class started so you wanted to get used to the temperature of the pool water before jumping in. "Why don't you just try talking to him?"
You turned to look at her, shaking your head at her idea. "About what? We probably don't have anything in common."
"You're both in the same program?" She tried suggesting some topics for you. "Ask him what year he's in. What if he's in our year? What if he's going to be in the same class as you next year?"
You couldn't help but scoff. "You can ask him, if you're curious."
"I'm not asking him." She lightly swings her legs underwater. "I'm not the one curious about him. But you are." The instructor came out, as you saw Haru getting up from pool. "Are you gonna let him just be another guy you watch from afar? Are you just gonna let him just be another mysterious guy you'll never get to know more of, even if you have the chance?" You quietly followed her behind as her words resonated.
₊‧.°.⋆💭•˚₊‧⋆.
It was the last class of the course as the semester came to an end. You were playing water polo as both Gou and Haru was on your team. You started feeling goosebumps forming, from the fact that the water was particularly colder today and how Haru was on your team but you were a little more calm knowing that you were quite good at handball when you were younger. The instructor blew the whistle at the start of game, throwing the ball into the air as Haru leap up to push the ball to his side of his team. Gou automatically dived to receive the ball before looking around her surroundings, seeing the opposing team swim their way to block the ball and players. She saw you opened but you quickly darted your head away, pretending you didn't just make eye contact with her.
"Y/N!" You glared at her before the ball flew to your direction. It was a bit over you reach as you turn to run, but underwater, the resistance caused you to slip on the bottom on the pool, falling into the water before you pushed yourself up, to quickly swim to the ball. You quickly grabbed the ball before the other team could steal it. Your team members started yelling for your attention, telling you they were unguarded or directions to throw it to. Your coach started to countdown the seconds you have left with holding the ball before it gets handed over to the other team.
"Over here!" You turned to Haru who was near the goalie of the opposite side, quite far from where you were. He was waving his hand, trying to get your attention. You quickly whipped the ball, hoping it made it to him. He jumps up to catch it before throwing it into the goal, scoring your team a point. Everyone cheered as he swam he way back. You could feel Gou's smirk from behind.
"Stop it." You turned to whisper a threat before you saw the dark hair male make his way to your direction. He reach out a hand, waiting for a high-five. You looked up at his hand, hesitating but he doesn't budge, waiting for you. You returned the high-five, looking at him blankly.
"Nice throw." He swims back to his position before the next game starts.
"Nice throw." Gou mocked resulting in you pushing her head under the water before she could see your flushed cheeks. The scenario replayed in your head as you regretted not saying anything to him as it may be the last time you'll ever see him.
₊‧.°.⋆💭•˚₊‧⋆.
You started your last year strong with the perfect schedule that aligned perfectly to your study time and work. Gou had already taken some of the courses that you were currently taking so the two of you only have a couple electives together. You were feeling slightly disappointed by the fact that you didn't get to see Haru but then again, the university is huge so what are the chances that you'll ever cross paths with him? You never had this feeling for someone, let alone someone you barely know so why is it that you are feeling so regretful on not talking to him? What is it suppose to mean? Would you still shy away from starting a conversation if you do ever bump into him again?
A month has past and you came to accept that the chances you'll ever see Haru again are extremely low. You have class in almost every building of your program, yet you have not been able to see him anywhere. Maybe is isn't in marine biology and only took swimming as an interest. Maybe he is a year older than you and already graduate. Maybe he dropped out. You were trying to search for answers you'll probably never know, yet you don't know why you're still searching for it. You walked out of one of your lectures heading back home early as it was one of the days where your class finishes in the early afternoon. You texted Gou as you walked towards the bus stop in your university when someone accidently nudged you by the shoulder as they were walking pass, making you stumble before you regained your balance. He mumbled an apology and you turned back to look. That hoodie. You were certain you've seen it before. It was a hoodie that you saw almost daily. It was the hoodie that Haru wore.
Your unconscious body almost wanted to run towards him, to see if it's really Haru but your mind stopped it from making any impulsive actions. The opportunity for you to talk to Haru once again slipped out of your hands as his figure disappeared in the crowd.
Weeks has past since you last saw Haru and to be honest, you were starting to give up on trying to look for him through halls when you leave your lectures, scanning around the library and study rooms and even walking pass the university's swimming pool to see if you could even catch a glimpse of him again but it was almost like he vanished. You saw Makoto, a friend of his that was also in your swimming class several times but Haru was never there. Every time you thought of Haru, you blamed our introverted and timid personality on how it prevented yourself from being any more than strangers which only made yourself feel miserable.
Walking out one of your lecture buildings, you walked through a small garden to the student center as you had an hour to spare before your next class. The spring weather uplifted your mood as the flowers started to bloom. The path started to get crowded as students exited the nearby buildings.
"Sorry." You apologized as you bumped into passers, continuing on their own way. You looked up to admire the clouds before slightly lowering your gaze, landing on an individual with earphones as they were typing away on their phone before he glanced up, catching you staring at him. You almost jumped at the sudden awkward interaction but before darting away as the two of you has passed each other.
"Wait!" You paused, hearing a familiar voice. You weren't sure if they were calling out to you specially but as you slowly turned around and saw him turned back to face you, pulling out one of his earbuds. He looked completely taken back, like how his words just slipped out of his lips. The two of you stood several feet apart as neither of you said anything and other stared at each other as people walking around the two of you.
"Are you, Y/N?" He approached closer as you look up at him, still trying to wrap what's happening around your mind. "You were in my swimming class last semester, right?" You nervously stepped back a bit, afraid that he can hear your pounding heart beat.
"Ah, yes." You could hear your voice shaking. Looking away as neither of you knew what to do.
He cleared his throat. "So, where are you headed to?" You started to thinking about how to answer his question. Do I tell him I'm on break? Should I just lie to him saying I'm headed to my next class? You realized that you were taking long to reply, as your bad habits start to uncover.
"To study." You spoke rather softly. You clenched your fists before asking him. "W-What about you?" You were never someone who asks questions during small talk but for some reason, the words just left your lips before your brain could process.
"Me? I'm headed off to me next class." He leaned down a bit to your level with a small smile. You peeked up at him before turning away, not daring to look at him. "Would you like to walk with me to class?" You looked up at him with widen eyes. Never would you expect to hear him ask such a suggestion. "Only if you want, of course." He said after a brief pause.
"Sure." The two of you slowly walked to his class. Your mind was hectically wandering to find topics to talk about before your mind explodes in stress.
"What program are you in?" He turns to ask as you silently let out a sigh of relief that the awkward silence was broken.
"Marine Biology." His lips slightly parted with brows raised from your answer before they return to normal.
"So, you're..." He paused for a second. "I assume in your fourth year?" You nodded. "I'm in my third year." He opened the doors of the building you just exited. Why haven't you ever cross paths with him if you're leaving and he's entering the same building? "Thanks for walking with me." You stood outside the lecture hall as the students from the previous section exited the room. You quietly nodded, staring at the ground. Your face has been flushed red every since he asked you to walk him too class, and you were too embarrassed to let him see you like this, especially when you guys were still strangers. "Well, see you."
"W-Wait!" You raised your head, trying to catch his attention but the door closes shut in front of you. How were you suppose to see him again if you have no way of contacting him?
₊‧.°.⋆💭•˚₊‧⋆.
"...Yeah, so that's what happened." You explained to Gou the next couple of days while the two of you was at the library studying.
"YOU SPOKE TO-" She was interrupted by people shushing her. "Sorry... You spoke to him AND you ASKED him?" She asked again, shocked by your actions.
"Yeah... I didn't even realize until they words left my mouth." Gou's jaw dropped. "And you know how I feel about being spontaneous."
"I think that's what you call acting on impulses." Gou corrected you with a smirk and wiggling brows.
You shook your head, in disapproval of your past behavior. "That's not good."
Gou crossed her arms. "What do you mean it's not good?" You were never one to act on an impulse as you were never sure what the outcome was, completely opposite to Gou. You liked knowing you options, the possible outcome and choosing the safest option for you. "Y/N, you know I love you dearly," Gou was at it again. Hearing those words, you knew Gou was about to start her nagging about you. "but you have to realize that opportunities like this don't come by often! You're the one who told me that you'll leave it up to faith. Well, what if this is your faith? You can't let him go. Not another one."
"I know what I said but..." you trailed off, not knowing what to say because you weren't sure if you even had that kind of feelings towards him. You are merely a stranger to him and he is to you. How can you fall for someone you barely know? "I don't think I see him in that way." Gou rolled her eyes, disappointed yet again by your cowardness.
"Fine. But don't you want to at least befriend him?"
"I do." You were firm about your reply because you truly do. He has caught your eye since the beginning and deep down inside, you have felt like you need to know why. "But I don't know what to do. Everything I do is awkward."
Gou leaned over the table towards you. "Trust me on this." Narrowing her eyes, she whispered into your ear. "Just let your impulse lead you." She sat back down, feeling proud at the advice she gave. "For once, stop overthinking and just let your body act on it's own." You shivered at her suggestion, imagining how chaotic that'll be. "As for starters, she pointed at your phone. "Text him." You bit your lip, recalling the moment from a couple days go. "I'll text him if I have to." She was about to grab your phone before you snatched it.
"It's not that." You avoided her eyes. "I didn't get to ask him for his number."
"YOU WHAT-" She shot up from her desk, slamming her hands on the desk.
"Shhh!"
"Sorry sorry." Gou apologized before taking a seat, taking a deep breath in to calm herself down. "You didn't get his contact?"
"I wanted to! But he left before I got a chance to ask." Your shoulders slump as Gou face palmed, the two of you sharing frustrations for different reasons.
₊‧.°.⋆💭•˚₊‧⋆.
You don't know what took over you, but your body seemed to move on it's own. You found yourself walking to his lecture room after your class. What are you suppose to say when you see him? How will he act when he sees you? Your mind starting running while your body moved by itself. You peeked into the small window of the door before his face appeared through the window as he pushed opened the door. You stepped back, nearly having a heart attack. He looked somewhat surprised by your appearance. You stepped to the side so you weren't blocking the pathway.
"Y/N? What are you doing here?" Shit, you weren't able to think of a respond beforehand.
"Um..." Your palms started sweating as you clasped them together, your eyes looking to the side. He placed his hands in his pocket, patiently waiting for your reply. "I was passing by."
He smiled, glancing over at his phone for the time. "Are you headed to your next class?" You nodded. "May I walk you to your class? I have a break before my next class."
"Sure." You both walked to your next class. He slowed his strides to match yours. You fixed your hair, trying to hide your blushing cheeks.
"You were really good at water polo." He suddenly says, taking you by surprise. You didn't expect him to remember. "The throw was pretty accurate despite the distance." You shyly smiled at his compliment. His smile grew wider at your reaction.
"You swim," You stopped in front of your classroom. "like a dolphin." His eyes widen from your words. You mirrored his expression, realizing the miscommunication it could cause. "I-I mean, because you look so free and one with the water. And dolphins swim really fast so-"
"Thanks for the compliment." You looked at his softened expression as he lets out a chuckle. "That's the first time someone said that" Your face flushed from embarrassment. "But I like it, it's unique." He tried to make you feel better as you let out a quiet sigh of relief.
You made it to your class, with a couple minutes to spared. Neither of you knew what to say as you tried to think of a way to ask for his number. "Um..." He looked at you, patiently waiting for what you had to say. You glanced up, your heart almost jumping out of your chest from the direct eye contact. You started to panic, sensing that he's probably impatient from how long you've been taking. "I'm sor-"
"No no. Take your time. There's no need to rush." He gave you a reassuring smile. One that automatically made you feel more at ease. For once, someone didn't press you to spill out your words and for that, you the tension on your shoulders drop as you let out a quiet sigh.
"Would you like to study together some time?" You could hear your voice quivering. He leaned against the wall, letting out a soft chuckle.
"I'd love to." He smiled as your did the same unconsciously. The doors behind you opened as students started to exit your lecture hall. His eyes gazed over your head, watching the people come out. "You should get going." You nodded before waving him a small goodbye. You were about to walk through the doors when you halted. His number.
You turned back, bumping into people who were trying to walk in, you could see Haru turning to leave before yelling "Haru!" He paused, slowly turning around as you finally got through the crowd. He looked at you, quite surprised. You could feel your cheeks heating up as you kept you head low. "C-Can I have your number?" You stuck out your phone before he took it, adding in his number to your contacts. You stared at the screen, displaying his number and your heart started racing. You feeling did it. You asked him for his number.
"I'll text you when I'm free to study." You were too accomplished and shocked that you couldn't even reply. His hand suddenly landed on your head, lightly patting it. "I'll see you later." He softly chuckled before walking away. You stared at his back as he exited the building, dumbfounded by too many things that all just happened at once. You touched your head, shocked by his actions before hugging your phone to your chest, smiling uncontrollably as you entered class.

ship: curumo (saruman)/ídhril
word count: 1035
summary: idrhil and curumo get a moment alone during an elven festival. see the end for some explanations/clarifications, this has quite a bit of weird lore stuff to it that takes place far before any of the films!
Tumblr media
They watch the feast celebration, from the far comforts of one of the high balconies of the Royal Family's Court -- Ídrhil's dwelling, granted to him for the purpose of training. In other words: His room, as appointed by the King, his father.
He stands stiffly, next to the tall, dark-haired Maia -- a god, or as close as you could get, and yet there he too waits, next to the Woodland elf whose small commune was far from his native land -- whose bandages wrapped tightly around his torso, and who still aches in places, even after months of healing. He could, at least, walk now with ease. Together they watch the crowd that has gathered on this cool night, amongst the repurposed Elven village. A line of children, young men and women, and a few adults even stand in line, with fathers and mothers once at a time guiding their children through their ritual -- that of choosing a new name, an important step in their lives, a sign of maturity and independence. Their King stands just beyond them, the highest honor for the families that participate.
Curumo hopes he is remembering it all correctly, for Ídrhil had explained it all rather quickly the night previous. He can barely make out the voices from afar.
"What are they saying?"
Ídrhil mumbles a long string of something similar enough to Sindarin, not so much repeating as he is reciting. He finishes in tandem with the distant child and after pauses, raising his glass slightly.
"Drink to me, for I am born again. And alone do I walk this path in life, sure and strong will I forge ahead my own way."
Curumo hums, intrigued.
"It is a rite of passage, then? This festival, this Mereth Nuin Giliath."
"Not so much as it is a celebration. The words, they are the rite. As is choosing a new name, befitting of your nature. It is an important part of my people's culture."
"What does yours mean?"
The elf turns his head, meeting the other's eyes.
"Ídrhil, one who longs, or desires."
"You chose this name?"
He nods, to which Curumo questions him again: "What do you long for?"
"To travel. To learn. Wandering is in my nature, it is what my clan does, but we never go far enough to meet anyone else; We do not fare well with strangers, you saw that for yourself when you awoke here. It frightens them, I think. The idea that we are not the last of our kind."
"And you?"
"I believe there are others. That there must be. I wish to find them, and even if there are not, I wish to try. There is so much out there, beyond Valinórë, and even beyond Middle-Earth. I want to go there. I want to see it for myself."
"An admirable quest. If you ever go, I would wish to go with you."
Ídrhil smiles.
"Curumo, it is Quenya, is it not? 'Skilled one,' if my memory serves."
"Where ever did you learn Quenya?"
"I would sneak out when I was young, when we would settle near the abandoned Vanyar camps. Sometimes there were scripts there -- I deciphered what I could from them. I fear my father has a far better grasp on the language than I, not that I would ever admit to him I knew any of it at all."
"In that case, I am pleased to say you remember quite well."
"Thank you," Ídrhil bows his head. When he raises it, their gazes meet again.
A moment passes.
"Curunír, in my tongue."
"...I quite like the sound of that." He raises his glass with a smile, "Will you not drink to me, then? Is that not the custom?"
Ídrhil nods with a chuckle, sips from his cup finally. Curumo -- Curunír -- does the same. He sucks in a breath at the bitter taste.
"I've not ever tasted such strong wine."
"It is not our usual drink, I thought it might suit a Maia better than the tastes of the Tawarwaith traditional wine."
"Is that so? May I decide for myself?"
Ídrhil offers a glass that is all but empty, "I'm afraid I've had the majority of my own, I did not get much for I do not drink often --"
"That's alright," Curumo hushes him. They face each other, the light of the moon scarcely illuminating the balcony they stand on, and it is then the taller of the two takes a small step forward, with what little space between them collapsing and leans down, hesitating only slightly in anticipation before pressing his lips to the elf's.
The kiss is bitter, not in the way Ídrhil expects but in the familiar taste of the strong ale he's brought his companion -- alongside it mint, and the milk and honey of the sweet batter they'd shared earlier that evening as a traditional dessert -- and he melts deeper into the kiss as the cup falls from his hand and shatters against the marbled floor; He sighs, his hand coming to rest against the Maia's cheek and then shortly after tangles into dark hair as he indulges finally in the touch he's craved for so long. When Curumo finally pulls away, he's grinning, cunning as his name suggests and he licks the last of the wine from his own lips.
"Wine has never tasted so sweet, I think."
Ídrhil feels his face flush, and from trembling lips falls more broken Sindarin, but Curumo is smart enough to decipher it this time around --
"Kiss me again, please."
And he does, wrapping his arms around Ídrhil and pulling him close this time. He brushes a stray hair out of the druid's face just after. Neither say anything, and months of time, though but a fleeting moment in both their lives for as long as they have lived come rushing back to Ídrhil, and for once so does a future, a forever, worth living for.
"Le melin," the elf breathes, his head still resting against the immortal's.
Curumo tilts away inquisitively, awaiting again a translation, but Ídrhil does not offer one, shaking his head with a solemn smile, "Perhaps we best get back to the feast."
"If you so wish."

explain your game plan for pulling Eddie! Id say in a perfect world where I'm totally smooth, id pull the whole "You come here often?" at a bar or something, but realistically, I'm shy and awkward as hell and my strategy really is to just admire from afar and skitter away when they get within a ten foot radius, so, you know, I doubt I'd actually have any success, but in my delusions, I can do it
here’s the thing we MUST lean in to our decisions bc we’re already obsessed with a fictional man. mind as well jump into the deep end.
this is not a brag at all but I would have Eddie Munson wrapped around my finger in a day and it would be AN ACCIDENT on my part. I think that I’d know OF him in high school (bc how could you not, that boy is jumping on tables every other school day) but since I mostly keep to myself in hs our paths wouldn’t cross.
Untilllll there’s some kegger I get dragged to by Robin and I hunt down some weed for us and Eddie trips over himself to flirt w me (I’m his type of this I am deeply convinced, big tits and tattoos and plays guitar like c’mon) and I’m like, incredibly stoic. And he thinks I’m playing hard to get but really I’m just slightly acerbic. I’m a Virgo sorry that I don’t want to flirt w a random guy in the middle of a dark forest. Give me my weed and let me leave 😒
And then we just keep crossing paths, due to our friend circles or the upside down or whatever. As someone who takes a long time to open up to people, I think Eddie would sense that and wear me down slowly over time, kind of a strangers to friends to lovers sitch.
irl I’d need a slow burn bc trust is hard. in my x reader dreams I’m fucking that man on the first date bc I already know everything about him 😜

LINDIR
you are an elf of Rivendell
your like the good soul of the house
he had known you from the very beginning
one of your closest friends
after years you both had fallen for eachother , but tried to hide it
one day he was walking through the many of the floors to get a clear mind
when he came to your door he heard you playing music
he knocked , you let him in
you were a bit nervous since you were now alone with him but you just kept playin
this day he just sat there and watched you in an awe
after that , the next day dwarfes came to your home , since you good with instruments , you were there to "entertain" them
one of the dwarfs admired you from afar , that´s when Lindir got jealous
he realised he really loved you and he couldn`t keep it to himself anymore
after the dinner , he took you to a bit more silent place
you had a feeling what was coming so when he started talking , you just cut him of by wrapping your hand around his neck
since that day you were happy in a relationship
sometimes you do riddels or puzzels with him , sometimes he just watces you practice ballet or one of your instruments
you write eachother loveletters and poems
at night you sometimes just lay in his arm and he tells you stories or reads to you
he makes sure , that when your working you take a break , drink and eat enough and not overwork yourself
your dates are mostly just meeting maybe at a lake and you make jewelry, while he does some of his hobbies , or you maybe do candle drawing , so it´s mostly just craftdates , or you go out at night and watch the stars
so you got a very loving partner , who would do anthing with and for you
hey , i hope you like it . i´m sorry that´s it so short , i hope it´s ok
it was my first one so tell me if it´ ok and/or what i could do better
