Drow Tavs/Durges accomplished the impossible! They defeated the Elder Brain and saved Baldur's Gate...only to have rumors instantly start spreading that it was infact the legendary drow hero Drizzt Do'Urden who saved the city!

Finished rereading Archmage last night and I couldn’t help but giggle a bit at one part where Catti is sitting by Drizzt’s side while he was still unconscious, recovering from having his chest split open, and everyone worrying that he might not be able to fully recover enough to fight as he used to.

Once she’s reassured that he will at least survive she’s thinking about how she would enjoy teaching him magic if his injury prevented him from returning to bladework, and mentally enjoying the idea of him bumbling through spells the same way she’d first struggled with sword fighting as her student…

And man would she have been disappointed if that actually had happened because according to Homeland he had no problem picking up basic cantrips pretty fast and in fact already knew several by the time he left Sorcere.

I just have this mental image of him just…going through the basics no problem after brief reminders and Catti “instantly got addicted to magic after using a wand to explode things once” Battlehammer being all,

“Wait, you already know these? You’ve been able to do this the whole time and you…just…don’t??! Why??”

And him just making a face like he’d encountered a bad texture, “…eh.”

Some interesting things from the Underdark

I absolutely recommend playing as a bard at least once. So many interesting lines. The local fish people think my Tav is a God 🤭

These creatures are near the place where the mushrooms disappear into the wall ( X: -70 Y: -241 ) You just need to jump across.

It's as if he and Nere are from the same family, where great ambitions are ingrained, but their mother didn't teach them to watch their step 🤭

You guys wanna talk about bitter pills to swallow from the Legend of Drizzt series? Because I do. I wanna talk about DININ.

I mean sure he was definitely a bloodthirsty asshole, but like, hear me out: Malice has Dinin tortured by Briza for fucking information he does not have. And given what we learned from him in Glacier’s Edge, he’s been abused in... other ways. Because that’s fucking standard in his society.

So when you’ve spent literal centuries being treated this way by *everyone you know* and this whole time you’re told that the surface elves are the reason for it all, and you get a chance to get some revenge on them, you’re gonna jump at the opportunity.

Drizzt comparatively was spared a lot of the shit Dinin went through, because he had Vierna and Zaknafein looking out for him whenever they could. That’s not to say he didn’t suffer or go through ANY of it, but he definitely got off ‘light’ in comparison.

So then Zaknafein gets sacrificed to Lolth, Drizzt deserts them, he and Briza get their asses kicked trying to find their little brother, and Malice’s attempt to kill Drizzt once and for all fails miserably and the whole house is annihilated by House Baenre no less! And Jarlaxle is there to offer him a way out.

And guys I am SO BITTER about it because I was absolutely sure Jarlaxle would be able to

a) help him heal and provide him with a better ‘family’ that wouldn’t fucking torture him

b) set him straight a little bit by also helping him maybe become a better person throughout the healing process and teach him that actually positive relationships can and do exist even among drow and it’s okay to care about other people

c) annoy the ever-loving fuck out of him for some quality content

And he got turned into a drider and killed off before ANY of that could even happen!!!!

I just really hope we get to see Dinin heal and grow in the new books. It looks like he’s starting to, but I’m afraid to get attached to him again. =/

But RAS could do so many really cool things with Dinin now. He could have him and Drizzt reunite and both absolve Drizzt of the monumental survivor’s guilt he’s had to live with and help Dinin be part of something genuinely good for him. And Jarlaxle! Jarlaxle was crushed when Dinin was turned into a drider.

Just... please. GIVE ME THIS. I need it.

Trying not to think about how Jarlaxle went on this huge involved rescue heist for the Neverwinter crew and was so excited to see them but reluctantly didn't go with them to Luskan and then they literally dropped off of the face of the earth for 18 years and he couldn't find them despite doing everything in his power to do so :)))))

I left off the Drizzt saga with The Last Threshold and am picking back up with Glacier's Edge and just...thoughts. not quite done, but

Why TF is Artemis getting dance fight drunk in a strange place with no backup?

Why did I not get to see Artemis Entreri dance fight?

He would've felt more like himself if he at least tried to find the seedy underbelly of Drow Shangri-La and exploit it for information/fun. Even if he was unsuccessful, and came back with a thousand yard stare and dressed like he was besieged by toddlers playing Pretty Pretty Princess Dinosaurs.

But Jax, lies of omission are still lies and not wanting to be proven a crazy fool is not a reason to withhold. We already know you're a crazy fool.

Artemis still feels like he is too domesticated. He's the angry feral cat that comes and goes. He's cagey, but I would've expected more sneaking, maybe unnerving the authorities tailing him? Also, possibly fighting Jax over weather proofing before skulking off into the angriest Lil snow furrow.

Glad the whole evil races issue comes up again, I was wrong there. But it isn't resolved really. There needs to be consequences to the debate.

Am I missing something or is the DnD lore and Bob lore conflicting? But people should be aware of the consequences for not picking a god and how a god can claim you after death. There's also an entity in charge of that

Catti feels more tolerable as she has more of a role on par with the boys instead of feeling sorta shoehorned. Still her and Artemis felt tacked onto a Jax-Zak adventure. I think it would've been cool for them to have their own Sellswords.

Also the back and forth of pov without chapter breaks kills me when it only switches for few paragraphs each.

Some are born to greatness, some have greatness thrust upon them, and others still just wanted to get the hell outta Menzo. Poor Drizzt was just a lil tween twink runaway. He was not the proximate cause (real legal term) of all modern Menzo problems JAX.

Look I just need a rotating polycule of Artemis and his emotional support drows. The emotions usually being exasperation, and anger, but all curiosity and bemusement.

Drizzt is still pretty bland and boring but still good. Like buttered pasta.

I am so happy because I have managed to survive the maze of heartbreak in act 2 long resting to get to Karlachs romance stuff with Drizzt (this game is poly torture. I hate telling all my besties no! I’m sorry for not letting you kiss after dancing, Wyll. I’m sorry for saying I’m not interested when you confessed your love under the stars, Gale. I want to say yes! Let me say yes, Larian! Let me date the entire party!)
