one of the most wonderful things in my life recently is my return to the books I loved in jr/high school.

I've been reading a lot less ever since starting uni, which sucks because I love books but I just couldn't get into any. I was complaining about not reading like I used to be able to, and then I realized (as much as tiktok encourages getting new books constantly) I can reread things.

specifically, I can reread books from high school. because I was reading more then for a lot of reasons, but also because I was reading things I liked, rather than what I thought I was "supposed to".

so anyway, here's some of the books I've been rereading (and absolutely tore through, this worked)

will saying you read these make people go "wow you're so dark/light academia"? no. but I read them instead of paying four months of library fines only to have them sit on my desk unopened the whole time. so I call it a win.

Flannel sheets are a lie!

They lure you in with cute polar bears and soft, fuzzy textures and give you juuuuuust enough time laying on them to make you drop your guard… then BAM! SWEAT! BUCKETS OF SWEAT!

Breathable, the descriptions say? Where?!? Where does it breathe?!? Because I had a fan pointed directly at my body and never felt a whisper of the air it was moving!

My hair kept getting caught in the pillow and my face felt like it was laying on a towel and god forbid I try to roll over in bed because according to flannel that’s now an Olympic sport with all of the resistance the material is providing, never mind the fact that I ditched the pajamas in a lame attempt at not having to change the sheets! WHY IS IT SO GRIPPY ON BARE SKIN?!? SOMEONE EXPLAIN!!

You don’t actually have to explain. I know the material traps air to keep you warmer, like a comforter traps air in it’s puffy pockets. That’s fine. That’s what it was designed to do. But if that’s what it’s designed to do THEN DON’T ADVERTISE IT AS BREATHABLE!!!!

Sure, maybe it’s breathable if nothing else is on the bed, but it’s JANUARY. Winter is upon us and I can’t exist in a house with no blankets in January without decimating my heating bill!

I gave up after an hour. Got up, went upstairs, got the cotton sheets out of the clean laundry basket, came back down, and changed them.

Now to convince myself that I’m just warm from moving around and not that my skin has been exfoliated by Satan’s washcloth.

Anyone who's saying "they remain silent during all this" with the watcher stuff have never been in a situation where everything is crumbling around you and there's intense pressure from some public audience. You are in flight or fight, you are panicking, and trying to figure out what to do. (Whether you're in the right or wrong). They're definitely planning next steps, and I don't think it's wrong to take time to do that vs addressing the situation fueled with emotions.

If you were them in this situation (remember , these are real people, not characters) you'd also be a mess. Not defending the choices they're making or anything, but after I went through something where there was pressure from the public and a group of people and I felt like my life was falling apart, I get it. It's hard. People fuck up, it happens, but I see some of y'all equating this to the try guys situation or Colleen ballinger and it's so not on that level

ellie is a complete night owl

like you actually are concerned about when she sleeps

if you have an early morning class together she is always running late

or just doesn't show up so you would have to call her and wake her up

she would sit next to you in any class you shared and scribble little doodles over to you

or communicate with you through notes

ellie hates going out in public but she loves going with you to do your errands

she likes to do this thing where she will pick out a book for you and you will pick out a book for her and you will sit in the back and spend your day reading together

sometimes she hates the books you pick out for her

she's always touching you in some way if she's drunk

if she's drunk at dinner and she's next to you, her hand in on your thigh or her head is resting on your shoulder

if she's drunk at a party, her hands are on your waist at all times whether she's dancing with you or talking to others

she also can't sleep without you if she's drunk

you would be trying to put her to bed and she would just grab your wrist and mutter a, "please stay"

9. when do you tend to read most?

lately it's been during my breaks at work ..  hiding in the back room from the no-foam latte customers but ideally early evening or mid-morning.   it's been hard for me to focus on it and read for long periods of time without getting distracted so i tend to just sit down and do a quick chapter read like some people take quick naps.  i think the two times i mentioned are easiest for me because my brain is either waking up or winding down and i'm not too actively thinking about anything else.  i've noticed this year i've been doing a lot more reading in parks on nice days and i hope to do that more this summer.

14. do you ever mark/dog ear books you own?

never dog ear,   i use bookmarks .. respectably.  or i shut the book and find my place because i live for chaos.  but i do annotate books if my class calls for it.  i've not often been a write in the margins sort of person,  which my degree would kind of anticipate. i need to get out of that mindset and start marking up my stuff though so i can go back to it and remember it and personalize my readings.  but i have annotated books before and sent them to friends !  ‘tis a love language.

Good Omens graphic novel update: March 2024

Happy March. We bumped into the one and only Maggie Service at an event earlier this month, and here she is with some enamel friends of ours:

It turns out, her words, not ours, that they’re not only good for the aesthetic, but handy for covering accidental food stains. Here she is showing off the gorgeous Aziraphale and Crowley pins to the crowd.

Anyway, we have a bumper one for you this month, and an important update on timings. Let’s get to it.

PledgeManager

First of all, we were due to launch the PledgeManager with this month’s update, but there’s a few last minute hurdles we need to get through and so we’re pushing it back a few final weeks just to ensure all the is are dotted, and ts are crossed. We’ll now be launching this on Thursday 18th of April, in the late afternoon UK-time, to ensure that all team hands are on deck for the move into this next phase. 

We’ve got a bunch of FAQs ready for the launch, and we’ll have a PledgeManager-specific update to coincide with it going live where we’ll lay out everything as clearly as possible. We appreciate your patience on this.

Rather than hold back the PledgeManager-adjacent information to the new launch date, however, we’ll still share with you some of the new things that will be available!

In terms of new additions: you wanted more  ̶d̶u̶c̶k̶s̶ items? You’ve got them! We’ve got two new notebooks: one featuring lots of ineffable artwork from the graphic novel, and one featuring the much-loved ducks.

We’ve also got two new mugs: one for Tadfield visitors, and another for… duck lovers.

We’ve got a big sticker set bringing together lots of the art from this campaign. And, we’ve got a new enamel pin pair: these gorgeous Crowley and Aziraphale wings that together make a little love heart. You can either wear them both, or split them with your own best angel.

These will be available to purchase like the Aziraphale and Crowley pin pairs - not tied to the mystery packs.

Evolution of Eden

We thought it would be interesting to show the evolution of the graphic novel itself. We’ve found it glorious watching Colleen’s artwork arrive in each new stage, and so here’s a sample of the stages of Colleen’s first image, in the Garden of Eden, from pencil sketch, through ink, to the finished page:
