The Mangler is a bad movie but it isn't a bad movie. It's got the cartooniest detective and his british(?) boytoy "Brother-in-law," a cast of weird distinctly Stephen-King-ian side characters, dialog delivery so unintelligible that you'd think its a mumblecore film, and very fun mid-late 90s set design.
Part of what makes it so good is its adherence to the King horror novel formula. Sure, it's got the tropes. Freaky town in the northeast that's always in Maine, spooky things going on under the surface, some sort of monster often accompanied by a satanic cult, that one friend with a convenient obsession with the occult.
What it's also got is the understanding of plot structure that makes King's formula so effective. Go to any airport bookstore and you know King's got your back with a narratively satisfying novel that's spooky enough to keep you entertained but standard enough to hold together. It isn't going to throw you any curveballs.
Of course, another aspect of this King adaption is that it's from his Machine Horror era, where he exploits the fear inherent in the mechanical. Being run over by a Dodge Caravan will change a man, I suppose, but you can only go so far down the list before machines stop being so scary, and so The Mangler got stuck with its titular monster: a possessed laundry machine. It's gory, disturbing even, but most of all silly, even moreso with everyone so serious about it.
Of course I loved it, the silliness of a hardboiled detective attacking a refrigerator with a sledgehammer aside, it's a well done movie without being a well done movie, and frankly left me impressed. Of course I could also be just easily wooed by a film with Dark City/Island of Lost Children set design coming from the guy who directed The Poltergeist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Who knows. Watch it if you want a fun time watching a goodishbaddish film. Like and Reblog to get mangled.

Ok ok have you heard of The Mangler (1995)??? The horror movie based off of one of Stephan Kings stories???
Well I just found out about it. And guess who plays in it? Robert Englund.
Robert Englund and Stephan King sounds like a perfect combo. But guess what? The character he plays??? An old creep https://youtu.be/0HtGut5FuKQ
I have no fricken clue what's going on in this scene. But I knew I had to show you, and have you put him on the R.E character scale XD
Me atter watching: Oh lord, who's uncle Billy??
Me: *Immediately googling the cast*
Tumblr media
Me: ... this cannot be good.
Oh my God XD Context!! I desperately need some context for this scene 😂😂😂
... alright, after reading the Wikipedia and indeed finding the context- I confess I do not feel much better XD
Okay so basically what I've gathered is that Gartley owns a laundromat service which utilises a dangerous, possessed laundry press that he and the other town elders have all sacrificed their virginal, 16-year-old daughters (And soon enough his virginal niece) to for- you know, the typical stuff. Riches, influence, power, etc.
ಠ ಠ ... I-
~
So I haven't seen this but now I do want to watch it XD Sounds like a solid horror movie, and Gartley gives me some Judge Doom vibes (With the over-the-top look he's got, all the black, and the cane XD )- which is positive! Haha
Suffice to say though, Mr Gartley sounds very creepy!! Definitely up there with Freddy and Buckman XDD 😅😂
Thank you so much for sending this in!! XD This was fun and now I have something new on my to watch list! XD Are you gonna watch this one? ^^

How 343 (incorrectly) nerfed the Mangler
The Mangler is a contentious subject in Halo Infinite. The brute pistol’s high damage output split casual and professional players over the gun’s place in the sandbox. Casual players defend the gun’s powerful design and defend its strength. Pro players have informally banned the gun in scrims and tournament matches (even when playing for thousands of dollars). The two sides had many solutions for resolving the problem, but when 343 Industries stepped in, the resulting nerf left no one happy. How did we get here? Why is the Mangler so divisive among the same player base? Is it possible to find a compromise on this gun? Let’s take a look.
Part 1: The Mangler Itself
To understand this discussion it’s important to understand the gun itself. The Mangler is an eight-shot pistol that fires arching projectiles at high velocity. These bolts deal 71 damager per bolt and instantly kill an unshielded opponent with a headshot. In Halo Infinite every player has two “health bars”: a shield with 140 HP and a health bar with 90 HP. This means the gun breaks shield with 2 bolts, then kills with 2 bolts to the body or 1 bolt to the head. This means the Mangler can kill a full shield opponent in 3-4 shots, assuming you don’t miss.
In addition, the Mangler used to have a “one shot beatdown”. In Season 1 the Mangler’s melee damage was 174. This means one bolt (71 dmg) plus one melee hit (174 dmg) would kill a fully shielded opponent. This puts the Mangler’s point blank damage next to powerful weapons like the Sniper Rifle, Shotgun and Heatwave. This was one of the gun’s polarizing features and the target of 343′s nerfs, but we will discuss that in a minute.
Another important detail is how you obtain the Mangler. Halo Infinite groups weapons in loose “genres” (called “Weapon Racks” by 343) and spawns them on similar weapon pads. For example, the pistol “rack” could spawn Sidekicks, Plasma Pistols, Needlers, Manglers and the like. Rifle “racks” could spawn ARs, BRs, Commandos and the like. This feature is used to mix up spawns for social games and BTB but is intentionally disabled for ranked play. This tacitly groups weapons of the same “rack” into similar power levels, despite their different functionalities. This creates problems we will discuss in a minute.
To recap briefly, the Mangler could:
Break full shields in two shots
Kill unshielded opponents in one headshot or two bodyshots.
Kill a full shield opponent with one bolt and one melee.
Part 2: The game surrounding the Mangler
Halo has a divide between its social settings and tournament settings. Social games start with AR/ Pistol and make up the vast majority of Halo games. Ranked / tournament games start with a Battle Rifle. The difference between starts drastically alters the gameplay. AR and Pistol starts focuses on close range combat, giving players of all skill levels a weapon they can be comfortable with. BR starts grant players the ability to shoot anyone they can look at right from spawning but trade great range for comparatively low damage. The damage gap is best demonstrated by this TTK chart.
Tumblr media
The AR (MA40 AR) has a TTK of 1.08 seconds with perfect accuracy, while the pistol has a very fast 1.03 seconds. Meanwhile, the comp start Battle Rifle (BR75) has a much longer TTK of 1.67 seconds. This grants the BR a unique niche in comp Halo: You can shoot anything you can see but it takes longer to kill people than any other weapon (except Disruptor or PP). This long TTK is part of what Halo players like about the gun: It gives defenders plenty of opportunities to strafe and dodge an opponent’s gunfire, allowing dodging and aiming to develop as interlinked skills. This balance also incentivizes grabbing additional weapons, as any pickups you get will be stronger at close range (or sometimes long range) than your starting gun.
The Mangler sports a slower TTK than either starting social weapon, making t a worse mid range option than the AR or Pistol. This balance is supposed to be offset by the Mangler’s melee combo, granting it expanded utility up close. However, eagle eyed viewers will immediately spot a problem. The bars in orange refer to kill combos with two weapons, and one of those combos is the BR + Mangler. While the BR takes 1.67 seconds to kill on its own and the Mangler takes 1.43 seconds to kill, you can combo the two very efficiently. If you fire two Mangler bolts, drop the Mangler (instantly pulling out your BR) and headshot the now unshielded opponent, your combo kills in 1.29 seconds. This drop has huge implications for ranked games.
If you scroll up you’ll remember the strengths of the Mangler:
Break full shields in two shots
Kill unshielded opponents in one headshot or two bodyshots.
Kill a full shield opponent with one bolt and one melee.
In ranked games you start with the BR. When you combine the BR and Mangler you now get:
Lower TTK at close-mid range than any opponent with a Battle Rifle
One shot beatdown at melee range
Equal effectiveness at long range vs anyone without a power weapon
Easier time breaking shields
Mangler + Battle Rifle has a 0.38 second kill advantage on anyone with a BR, which is most players during a ranked match. This gives whoever is holding it an immense advantage in any 1v1 or 1v2 gunfights, fundamentally altering positioning and fights around its location. This sort of dynamic positioning is reserved for power weapons and the shotguns, not to pistol pickups like disruptors or plasma pistols. That’s the core issue with the Mangler: It’s too strong and too accessible.
Part 3: Halo Casuals vs Halo Pros
Now, the big divide between pros and casual can be traced to the different starting equipment. Mangler + BR TTK is too low for ranked, but the AR and Pistol starts in social games have a fair shot against Mangler players out of melee range. When casual Halo players see the pros complaining about a gun that’s too strong in ranked, they fail to recognize the importance of starting equipment. They project their experiences of Manger vs AR onto the situation, failing to understand the problem is Mangler/BR vs BR.
Halo’s casual scene doesn’t have a very healthy relationship with its professional scene. A lot of Halo players enjoy the game for it’s diverse sandbox and custom games, using retail Halo as a jumping off point for wacky moments and cool stuff. That’s all well and good, but a lot of these wackier weapons don’t really work in a tournament environment. Therefore, a lot of Halo competitors intentionally limit the tools at play (vehicles, certain weapons, certain maps) to focus on mechanical skill and teamwork. A lot of casual players see these game modes devoid of what they enjoy about Halo and bounce right off. Even worse, some decided to target the Halo pro scene as some “boogeyman” corrupting their fun through balance changes and patches. This line of thinking is demonstrably wrong (and I’ll get to it), but incredibly popular. It leads me to ask: How does a small pro scene attract so much resentment from other players and would-be fans?
Part 4: 343′s impossible balancing act
343 Industries is the company behind the development and maintenance of Halo Infinite. Their job is to build a game that casual players and pros will enjoy, catering to both of their sensibilities wherever possible. While I respect the Halo Infinite devs and understand many of the difficulties of their position, they are known for making questionable changes. The Mangler is a great example of the divide between social games & ranked games, and it’s current implementation couldn’t stand. When season 2 rolled around a week ago, they decided to indirectly nerf the Mangler by changing melee system mechanics. As of Season 2, bladed weapon melee damage dropped from 174 to 157. This tool out the Mangler’s one shot beatdown from ranked and social. While a nerf sounds like a good idea, there’s a much bigger problem that went unaddressed: The Mangler + BR TTK wasn’t changed. Social games suffered since the one shot beatdown kept the Mangler competitive with the AR and Pistol’s fast TTKs. While this change is also welcome in ranked, the bigger problem was left unaddressed. Manglers still heavily altered ranged play and monopolized the battlefield around them. They were still readily available like any other pistol weapon. So come season 2, the pro community continued their agreement to not use the Mangler in scrims or tournament.
This change feels like poor research or a poor compromise on the part of 343 Industries. Be it an unwillingness to change the availability of the weapon or an inability to find a comfortable balance between social and ranked games, the change only served to upset a lot of Halo players. I’m hoping the gun’s current iteration is a stepping stone to a better design, as many other weapon changes in Season 2 are genuinely great. I have faith in Halo Infinite’s future and hope this post reflects a silly misstep on the way to the final game, but something has to change to get there.

Horror Movie Review: The Mangler Reborn (2005)
The third film in The Mangler series (yes, this is true), The Mangler Reborn is a hilarious attempt at a rebirth of the franchise.
The third film in The Mangler series (yes, this is true), The Mangler Reborn is a hilarious attempt at a rebirth of the franchise. Hilarious because there had only been two previous films. The insane original that is a ‘so bad it’s good’ movie, and the dreadful sequel, The Mangler 2: Graduation Day. Neither of which were anywhere successful enough or popular enough to warrant a rebirth. Whose…
