the only movie that's ever made me desperate for a sequel is The Mo Brothers' Macabre

like hello??? Dara is one of the most captivating villain presences of all time????? the only comparison I have is watching All About Eve when Marilyn Monroe, in a tiny role before she was a big star, makes her first appearance and I couldn't stop watching her despite being in a crowd of all these established actors like Bette Davis and George Sanders. except Shareefa Daanish IS the centerpiece

Dara: Mama bear, small-business owner, chainsaw-weilding vampire with the biggest, unblinking eyes, the smoothest skin, and the most comforting voice to tell you exactly how fucked you are. I don't even care if a sequel wouldn't live up to Macabre I literally just need Daanish to reprise the role

I remember watching it not-too-many years after it came out, and still having hope

but it's now been fifteen years and I must come to terms with the cycle of grief

There's something so sad to me about the fact Lan Xichen goes from happily encouraging Lan Wangji to befriend Wei Wuxian to Considering Wei Wuxian to be Lan Wangjis 'only mistake'

Like... Imaging getting a miracle second chance not only at life but to have be loved by the man you've always admired only to find out that his family detests you because during the worst time in your life, physically and mentally you didn't take into account the idea that a man who'd always treated with cool acquaintance at best, active distaste at worst actually cared about you and that his constant reproach and effort get you do give up the one method you have to protect yourself while everyone was literally actually out for your head was honestly because he was badly wording his concern and not because he hated you and the methods you used to survive.

I can't believe how He Tian and He Cheng are basically the same person. Momo and Brother Qiu are also very similar. It's always like this, Mo/Qiu come to their respective He Brother and want barely more than attention and the He Brothers simply throw money at them because they have no fucking clue how to show affection and care properly. He Tian has learnt that Momo doesn't want money but love. I hope He Cheng can step up his game and read the room better next time and kiss Brother Qiu instead of handing him money

watched Killers last night by The Mo Brothers - the guys who made Macabre aka movie about small-business owning vampire family with ONE OF THE BEST VILLAINS OF ALL TIME. I was into it (not as good as Macabre, but I didn't expect it to be)

but really I'm making this post for the story of me spending several months trying to get my figurative hands on a copy with no luck. and like I am pretty damn good at finding obscure movies. I have a friend who turns to me as the only conduit for watching these bizarre artsy films his friend rec's him. but after months of only false hope, finally caved to get my *literal* hands on one by buying a DVD off ebay. I had come to terms with the fact that this was the only way I was ever going to watch this movie I knew next to nothing about, but had become rabid to see (partly, perhaps, because of these failures)

and here's the thing: a couple months ago, I was at a friend's house and she waffled between renting and buying a movie off a streaming service and ultimately was like "I'll rent it and buy it later if I feel like rewatching." and my little 🏴‍☠️brain wasn't prepared for to see the prices out there. THIS DVD WAS CHEAPER THAN BUYING A DIGITAL COPY OF A MOVIE

anyway this is an ode to physical media, The Mo Brothers, and sea-faring adventures

p.s. Killers (2014) is two guys who connect thru an online snuff-film community and have this sorta Hannibalesque relationship (minus homoeroticism). is it the best movie ever made? no, it's got some loose plot threads - but I was ready for that from Macabre and that's like one of my favourite movies ever. but damn was I rivetted and there's a good, twisty plot and some great shots

Everyone I know who's into Chinese dramas (sample size: 3) got into them through The Untamed/CQL. At the same time, the Untamed/Mo Dao Zu Shi fandom seems to be larger than the fandom for all other C-dramas combined. So I'm curious about people (in an English-language fan space like this)'s relationship with C-dramas!
