“you know lark it is ok to be angry; but it is not ok to be cruel”
i think about this line a lot and i think it really sums but their relationship. because that whole scene is henry trying so fix his relationship with lark he apologies. he never wanted lark to feel the way he did about barry and lark responds with none of the empathy henry tried to instill in him. he respond with that cruelty henry tried to keep them (the twins) away from, there is also such apathy in lark in this scene while we can hear henry’s voice breaking as he talks larks stays very stagnant.
henry and lark I don’t think ever recover from the deck of many things or the betrayal of the summoning doodler. but henry is never cruel, even after he promises to be tougher on the kids i don’t think he ever brings himself to do it (we don’t see it in the run time of s1 but based on how sparrow and lark turned out i think hes a safe guess to say he never gave them a real punishment) he cannot bring himself to discipline the twins. this isn’t to say henry isn’t angry as we see through the doodler the oaks are very angry people but they don’t show it. it’s all repressed coming out in bursts to avoid this idea of cruelty they have built up. henry is angry at himself more so than lark; and never punishes him or says that he did something wrong. leaving lark to fester in his own guilt and anger because he knows the truth

pokemon theory i just thought of: new pokemon appear in the pokemon universe when they're designed in this one. they're created ex nilho but they have retroactive realness; they weren't here yesterday, but today they've always existed.
pokemon researchers have had to suss this out on their own over decades, and it's a really unpopular theory, made worse by the fact that no one can come up with a better one. from their perspective pokemon generate spontaneously but in both chronological directions, and the similarities of many pokemon seem to be detived from a conscious and creative understanding of the world--their world, though? what other world could there be?. there are ice cream pokemon and pokeball pokemon and sword pokemon and trash bag pokemon.
there are so many pokemon with both wings and a beak. is this like swords? is there an ur-flying type that this class evokes? there are so many canine pokemon. but what is a canine? is there such a thing? there's only one set of sword pokemon, right. one tea-set line. is *feline* a coherent category? would the ur-feline have two legs or four? why do so many pokemon have humanlike bodyplans-- but then again, why so few?
pichu has always been the prior form of pikachu. why didn't it get counted in order? why do we call it that instead of saying pikachu is the middle evolution of the pichu line? why can so many trainers remember finding this out well into their journeys? why didn't ash start with one?
this is why pokemon researchers do a lot of labwork, drink heavily, and use ten year olds for field research. you can't have an existential crisis if you don't even know what time is yet.

Lilies to Houses and a "Superfund Site" in between
Mom, Sandy Thurlow, standing in front of slash pines and palmettos at Justin Wilson Park in Palm City. The park lies just across Mapp Road from The Oaks. It is so wonderful to spend time with my mother. We are working on a book about Palm City so this past Saturday we went for a drive. One of the places we visited was the old Hupfel Lily Farm. Mom was telling me about Martin County’s long flower…

That's so cool! And they found a few of them, and they're now growing seedlings in greenhouses for eventual replanting!
Quercus tardifolia is a relic species leftover from when the climate was much cooler and wetter in the past, and can only really live in a few high-elevation spots in Texas. It's definitely still at risk of extinction due to increasing heat and drought caused by climate change, but the discovery means this species still has a chance.
