are u still gonna post art here after tumblr's partnership with openai and midjourney? :(
truthfully i was really disheartened by the news. this on top of the ceo's recent behavior has left an incredibly foul taste in my mouth. it just sucks since I've been in this site far longer than I've been on any other platform and it's been where i've been most comfortable, now it's making me reconsider staying here at all.
there are alternatives like cohost, sure but i've also made a lot of roots in tumblr which makes it hard for me to leave. if we're just talking about this art blog, i could easily just uproot and be somewhere else. but I've other blogs I've put a lot of effort into putting together and holds a lot of dear memories.
for the time being i think i will stay here, turn off the ai partnership/third-party sharing (i encourage everyone else to do so) and continue to operate as i usually do. i do continue to try and test the waters in bluesky and cohost though, but i haven't had a lot of free time to do so recently

HANG LOOSE SOUVINERS has taken their normal beachwear and replaced it with pinks, whites, reds, and lots of sparkles. in town for the bash as well, you can grab anything from a cute bauble-headband to some adorable heart-shaped sunglasses for a good price. a sticker and small holiday-themed button comes with each purchase as well. they are also the hub for purchasing tickets for maximum games’ activities - twenty-five cents per ticket, with discounts on rolls.
POLARIS STARGAZING will offer anyone who is looking for something quieter and a little more intimate something to take part in. along with selling art prints of the night sky painted each night for couples to take home as a commemorative decoration, every night starting at 9pm they will be holding their special night under the stars on the edge of town - bring your blankets, pillows, and some hot chocolate from honeybrews to look on at the gorgeous night sky with friends, family, your significant other, or your crush.

1. Rebekah Jones is a data scientist who was fired from the Florida Department of Health for refusing to toggle her analysis results to look more favorably towards FL politicians who are pushing for reopening the state.
2. Since her dismissal she has continued her work on tracking COVID-19 spread in FL and has launched her own dashboard.
3. From some of her latest posts (link below):
"BREAKING: 1 OF 3: Florida announced yesterday they're not counting the icu bed availability anymore, a key element in keeping things open, so the state can proceed to the next phase by July 4.
BREAKING 2 OF 3 I have multiple sources at DOH who have just told me they have been instructed this week to change the numbers and begin slowly deleting deaths and cases so it looks like Florida is improving next week in the leadup to July 4, like they've "made it over the hump."
BREAKING 3 OF 3 I've independently verified they've deleted at least 1200 cases in the last week. They're only reporting all these cases now so they can restrict reporting next week to make everyone think it's over. I've had two DOH employees in different offices confirm"
4. Here's an article about how FL state government and DOH are juking the numbers. Here are some excerpts (link below):
"Now a private citizen, Jones continues to take issue with the way the state is calculating its coronavirus positivity rate. The official Florida site says there are more than 1.3 million "total people tested" in Florida, of which about 73,500 were positive, resulting in an "overall percent positive" rate of 5.4%.
But Jones says that figure is misleading.
"I actually wrote the script to create that data, so I know exactly what it looks like," she says, adding that she's audited it and checked it with several other statisticians to make sure it's correct.
She says that on the state's dashboard, any person who tests positive will be counted as a positive test only once, no matter how many times they test positive. But a person who tests negative will be counted over and over again each time they test negative for the coronavirus.
Jones says that because many residents, such as health care workers, require repeated testing, the state's dashboard is artificially deflating the true positivity rate.
"They're adding their total test figures instead of their total people, which makes their percent positive extremely low," she says.
...
Natalie Dean is a professor of biostatistics at the University of Florida and a member of the advisory board of the COVID Tracking Project, a volunteer data collection effort launched by The Atlantic. She says it's useful that Jones' dashboard connects people directly to information about testing and health care, and does"not just show them the data, but to help people make decisions."
And Dean says it's valuable that Jones makes it easy to export the data she's using. "A lot of people are making their own models," she says. "As someone who does this, it's really helpful to make that data more accessible."
With Jones now out of a job, her site is relying on GoFundMe donations to stay running. Her goal is to give people a place with information they can trust and find help if they need it.
"I think I'm uniquely equipped to try to help with that," she says, "so that's what I'm doing. I just don't want people to panic. I don't want anybody to feel afraid or powerless.""

~hello~ !! For the meta asks!: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, and 25 :))
Hello!! Thank you for sending these; I was really excited to see that ask game and I was hoping somebody would send some in. It still took me a while to actually answer them though, and for that I apologise. But without further ado! Some meta answers (under the cut because they ended up being fairly long, whoops):
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (Consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway.)
I thought of a few examples, but they could basically be grouped together under a common theme: whumpy/angsty scenes that were self-indulgent as all heck. The whole self-indulgent aspect often required the characters to be just the teeniest, tiniest bit OOC and/or necessitated rather unrealistic plot circumstances. So it was simply easier to keep such scenes as maladaptive daydreams, rather than trying to think of explanations for the character/plot issues…or exposing myself to judgement for them LOL.
Receiving permission to write/share one such scene anyway is an opportunity I can’t let slip by though. It might be because I’m writing this while running on zero (0) hours of sleep—let’s hear it for insomnia, y’all!—but I suddenly couldn’t remember any of my newer ideas under this category. However, I did recall a one-shot I had started writing a couple of months ago that sort of counts? “Sort of” because I could actually be arsed to write it since I was, ya know, writing it. Only got about six hundred words down though.
…should I share those six hundred words…?
………nahhh. I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet.
But here’s the gist of it: Coulson and May (because of course it’s Philinda) were married for quite some time before the Attack on New York. But then Coulson DiedTM and then got ResurrectedTM. But gasp of horror, he had to lose his memories of his romantic relationship with May because reasons. (I actually did have some ideas for those reasons but sshhhh this is about me yeeting context and setup.)
The first half of S1 still happens as normal (except MayWard doesn’t happen because??? Vows) and it’s now post-E20 “Nothing Personal”. The morning after (or a morning soon after, whatever) the T.A.H.I.T.I. reveal! May’s mom—who doesn’t know about GH.325 and whom May fed a cover story about Coulson divorcing her or something equally as oof, IDK—shows up at the hotel and starts ripping into Coulson for breaking her daughter’s heart, then dragging her back into the field with her ex-husband (him), then accusing her of terrible things and forcing her away again.
Poor guy’s confused as heck, and so is the team, and soon enough so is Lian. The only one who understands what’s going on is May, and she’s freaking dying off to the side like why is this happening to me and eventually everybody’s like! Explain??? (Was thinking about including something from Coulson like, “Are you still keeping things from me?” Just for that extra smidge of angst, yay!)
So yeah then May gives a, like, two-sentence debriefing that elicits more questions than answers. Coulson decides to take May aside and they have a heart-to-heart. Lots of feelings and angst and hurt/comfort and at some point plenty of kissing too. Just! May hiding her feelings for Coulson’s sake but really magnified, plus some actual apologies and consideration of the grief May’s been through on Coulson’s part.
And uhh yeah that’s basically it I dunno hdsjncjshd. I warned y’all it’s OOC, plot-bendy, and very self-indulgent!
6. What character do you have the most fun writing?
I don’t think I could name a single character for this. I get different things out of taking on different voices, you know? I guess recently I’ve found myself gravitating towards more taciturn and introspective points of view, like JQ from my original novel Rosewood or M. Yisbon from my…other original novel Temple.
Generally, however, I like tackling stories from an outsider’s perspective. That’s why I so rarely write my more “substantial” (serious? demanding? for lack of better words?) projects from the PoV of my “preferred” character. This usually means writing from their love interest’s perspective, but not always. With shorter fanfic, using a more removed/unconventional/niche PoV can be really fun. Like, I once wrote a canon compliant ficlet purely(-ish) about Philinda from Tony Stark’s perspective. That isn’t always sustainable with stories that demand more character development or closer character studies, however, which is why it’s a good thing I like writing drabbles!
9. Are you more of a drabble or a longfic kind of writer? Pantser or plotter? Do you wish you were the other?
My word counts tend to run long, but I usually only write one-shots for fanfic. If I’m even inspired with a novella- or novel-length story idea for a fandom, you already know I’m in deep with them. And if I actually find the motivation to plan and execute that idea? Dangg. That’s only ever happened…twice, maybe thrice, and I’m in a lot of fandoms.
At times, I wish I could go for more of a middle ground ’cause, like, you know what I love to see? An AO3 dashboard with several completed novellas for my ship/character of choice. I mean yes, I hecking love >90k fics, but sometimes I’m in the mood for quick reads…and what am I supposed to do when I burn through all the drabbles and 2k one-shots? (Besides despair and/or reread my faves desperately.) Novellas are basically always safe for me LOL, and I’d hope to be able to give as much as I take.
Ultimately though, I think I’m okay with where I am with regards to that. I wish I could write more in general, but I’d be okay with “writing more” just meaning “writing more one-shots”, ya know? More than okay, really. I have mad respect for fic writers who have, like, a hundred or more one-shots under their belt for this one ship. The fandom ecosystem would be incomplete without them (as well as every other type of writer, but sshhh that’s the type of writer I’m closest to being right now).
I’m definitely a plotter, and I definitely prefer it that way. It’s cool having such a detailed record of my process. I like feeling like a frazzled genius on the brink of a major discovery with all of my different outlines and colour coding and many drafts and various websites.
12. Do you want your writing to be famous?
Not exactly. It might be cool if my original works were recognisable in the world, but I don’t think I’d want to be recognisable. As for fanfic, I’d low-key enjoy gaining a place in that fandom’s community as a fic writer. Like someone who gave and got fic gifts from fic writer friends, who participated in challenges and GCs, who received writing prompts on Tumblr, whose name was known for doing a certain trope/genre a bunch of times… Ya know what I mean?
Unlikely to happen when I’m so hecking hesitant to publicly (i.e., outside of AO3) claim credit for my writing, but fjnskfsjhfjs. A writer can dream, right?
15. Which is harder: titles or summaries (or tags)?
Of those three, tags are the easiest for me, for I have a reliable system for figuring out those.
Next easiest would probably be titles. For fanfiction, I like to use titles that are a quote from the source material. You should have seen all of my old Hamilton fanfic… I was really proud of some of those titles. And I don’t mean, like, whole lines—usually only two to five words. It’s a unique type of wordplay that I just love dabbling in.
And lastly, summaries. Sometimes inspiration strikes me and a snappy and intriguing synopsis just jumps out—one that I’m quietly pleased with—but most of the time I’ll spend way too long trying to think of such a synopsis and eventually just go with whatever I’d come up with so far. And live with my quiet dissatisfaction for the rest of time.
18. Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (Plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations...?) Tell us about them!
Typically, no. If I have deleted scenes, I save and publish them separately, but that’s about it. I sometimes think of AUs for my own work and might talk about them in my author’s notes—might even talk about writing them—but I never really do anything with them.
Although…
It’s not uncommon for me to decide a plotline isn’t working for a certain story or to think of an interesting but undoable arc for a certain character, but what I’ll do is make a whole new story for those ideas. Once I’m done developing the original idea and the branched-off one, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell they grew from the same roots. Does that count?
21. What other medium do you think your story would work well as (film, webcomic, animated series, etc.)?
That depends on the story. I’ve actually written stories in other mediums—movie screenplay, musical stageplay, poetry, TV show scripts, play scripts, roleplay—but the novel does tend to be my comfort zone. Sometimes, if I have an idea that I think could work, or would even work better, as another medium, I’ll label it as such in my folder of ideas and decide not to write it as a novel.
Most of the time, my non-book projects are collaborations. I’m working with five different people on six different story ideas: two webcomics, one stage musical, one anime, and two animated TV shows. Little concrete progress has been made in any of those, mind you, but they’re still fun to discuss!
24. Would you say your writing has changed over time?
Absolutely. But I’ve been writing stories since I was five years old, so we would hope so, huh?
I wouldn’t say my writing’s changed completely, though maybe that’s just my insider’s perspective.
25. What part of writing is the most fun?
Oh gosh, I can’t believe you’d make me choose. Writing is just such a wonderful experience for me; I love just about everything to do with it. Admittedly, not all the time, but. Since that barely qualifies as an answer, however, I’ll give you this—
The endings. Not only that intense feeling of rightness when you wrap up that last sentence, but also the moments before. The adrenaline of knowing you’re almost there but you gotta push just a bit more to actually get there. And also the part right after—the real wrap-up, honestly: the revision and the editing. Heavens, I love revising and editing my work.
Which is not to say I don’t like writing it out for the first time, too—there’s nothing quite like seeing your cursor scroll to the next page, like going from a blank expanse to a Oh man, how many more lines are even going to fit on this page?, like watching that page counter tick up another number. However, there’s something cathartic about finally ironing out those problems I had to force myself to stop worrying about earlier because “just finish the first draft dangit”.
I guess that’s not really the end of the writing process, but whatever. Close enough (as fic writers are wont to say).
Another thank-you for these asks, and feel free to come back with more at any time! ;P
Send in fun meta asks for your friendly neighbourhood writer!

Funnel Scripts Review – Write Pro Copy In Half The Time
New Post has been published on https://entrepreneurnut.com/funnel-scripts-review/
Funnel Scripts Review – Write Pro Copy In Half The Time
Are you struggling to write great copy to sell your products?
Perhaps you’ve been blowing a brain cell trying to think of what to write in your email sequences that will captivate your audience?
You may have been spending a ton of money on ads only to avail in a measly amount of clicks?
Or maybe you’re trying to promote affiliate offers but people just aren’t clicking your links?
There’s no denying it, good copywriting skills is an essential part of building a successful online business.
Without it, you’ll likely make next to no money and eventually quit.
However, when you get it right then just a few small tweaks can make a huge difference.
For example, as a blogger, I was surprised the first time I made a tiny tweak to a headline by using the free Funnel Scripts headline generator and saw the impact it had on both clicks and sales.
If you’ve been trying to learn copywriting yourself then you’ll already realize it’s difficult and it takes a long time to master.
The common alternative is to pay a professional copywriter to write your copy for you. If you can afford it, that is; they’re pretty expensive.
However, professional copywriter Jim Edwards and his marketing buddy, Russell Brunson have created another alternative that they say is much quicker and more cost-effective.
It’s a push-button software program that can write your sales copy for you. They call it Funnel Scripts.
Since I recently purchased this product, today, I am going to be diving deep into exactly what it can do and whether or not you really need it for your business.
So, here in my Funnel Scripts review 2021 I will give you the lowdown on the complete software, including the free headline generator you can use to test it out before you buy.

Funnel Scripts Review: What Does It Do?
Funnel Scripts has been developed to give everyone the ability to quickly create professional-level sales copy without having to pay expensive copywriters to do it for you.
It works by using templates based on some of the best performing copywriting scripts in history and structuring them around the content you input that is specific to your market, audience and the products or services you are promoting.
Jim Edwards, the creator of the Funnel Scripts software, has included templates to enable you to create sales copy for a large number of reasons including, ad copy, landing pages, video, and written sales letter scripts, bullet scripts, headlines, email sequences, webinars and more.
Basically, you spend a few minutes inputting some data about your audience, product, the benefits and so forth, then press a button. Funnel Scripts will then generate multiple variations that you can choose from.
Who Is Funnel Scripts For?
Most businesses need to use some kind of sales copy. If you’re trying to sell your own products, promote offers as an affiliate, collect leads, you need to write ads or you need to email your subscribers then you will need to have some kind of copy.
As a blogger, I also realized that I can benefit a lot by improving the headlines of my posts.
Copywriting is a hard to learn skill and does not come naturally to most people. However, if you already have this skill then it’s probably not necessary for you to buy Funnel Scripts unless you just want a faster way of doing it.
If copywriting is something that gives you a headache, it’s a task that takes you hours without really knowing how effective it’s going to be or if you outsource it but pay a hefty price for it then Funnel Scripts will be a big benefit to you.

What I Like About Funnel Scripts
When you first buy Funnel Scripts and get inside the member’s area you will notice there is a huge amount of stuff in there for you to dive into.
There are several features I really like, but some of my favorites are the following:
Large Number of Scripts Available
Funnel Scripts is not just a headline generator; it’s not only used for writing ad copy; it can be used for much more than just creating your email sequences.
It is a very powerful program which, gives you the ability to create copy for any kind of purpose you could imagine.
Funnel Scripts Produces Good Quality Copy
When I first heard about Funnel Scripts, I must admit I was a little skeptical as to how good the copy it produces might be.
Many years ago I purchased a headline and sales page generator, but it was mediocre at best. However, that was around 2007 and fortunately, software has come a very long way since then.
I was more than pleasantly surprised to see that the quality of the copy produced by Funnel Scripts not only reads well, but it also keeps to the structure of professionally written copy that creates engagement.
You Can Create Copy Very Quickly
There are no two ways about it, Funnel Scripts is fast.
Compared to writing copy yourself or even outsourcing it to a professional and waiting for your copy to come back, Funnel Scripts can bash out your copy in minutes.
When you use one of the script generators, it will ask you to fill in some boxes with data about your product and target audience. Depending on the script you’re using this can take around 10-20 minutes.
Then, all you do is hit the build button and wham! Your copy is generated.
The copywriting script generators will produce a few different variations for you to choose from, all of which are fully editable by you if you need to.
Free Copywriting Training Included
If you’re using Funnel Scripts then you don’t need to learn copywriting yourself.
However, knowing a bit about the formulas of creating great copy and how it leads your audience to take the action you desire will help you to get even better results with the copy you generate.
I have always been interested in copywriting and the psychology behind it.
While I do now use Funnel Scripts myself, I am still interested in and fully intend to learn more about it to improve my skills in this area.
So I was pleased to see a number of training videos that are also in the member’s area if you do have the inclination to learn more about writing great copy.
Monthly Copywriting webinars
Creator, Jim Edwards, is really passionate and proactive about Funnel Scripts.
Since copywriting is a skill that is close to his heart and he wants his members to get the most out of using his product, he holds monthly training webinars that you can sign up for for free.
You can also watch the latest webinar replay in the member’s area if you can’t make it live.
Pimp My Funnel
If you want expert help with your sales copy, from Jim Edwards himself then you can apply to be featured in an episode of Funnel Scripts Tips, which are Jim’s copywriting tips webinars.
Since there’s so many users of the software it’s not guaranteed that you will get chosen. However, you can keep applying if you want to get his help directly. If you are chosen then it can make a huge difference to your business.
Extra Funnel Scripts Bonuses
When you buy Funnel Scripts you will also notice you get 4 extra bonuses in the member’s area. These bonuses are:
Bonus #1 – Inception Secrets
This is a training that marketer Russell Brunson gave to his inner circle a few years ago. He shows you how to be able to sell anything to anyone and make it seem like it’s their idea to buy from you. It will teach you how to plant the seeds of desire inside a person’s head so they will naturally want to buy your stuff.
Bonus #2 – 5 Fast Funnels
Here they give you access to the 5 most popular and commonly used funnel that you’ll likely need to use online.
Bonus #3 – Copywriting Secrets Master Class
This is a course Jim created to help people get high-impact results from their sales copy without having to hire a copywriter. He also teaches you some simple tweaks that can make a huge difference to your conversions.
Bonus #4- Live Monthly Training with Jim
Each month you can join Jim live on his monthly webinars to learn how to get the most out of Funnel Scripts and sell more stuff.

What I Don’t Like About Funnel Scripts
Funnel Scripts Navigation Is a Bit Crowded
Since there’s so much inside the Funnel Scripts members area it can take you a while to get to grips with it.
Some of the features are hidden within other tabs, which can take you some time to find where everything is when you first use it.
It’s Quite Expensive
The sale price of $797 might be quite steep for a lot of small businesses and solopreneurs to shell out at one time.
However, if creating effective sales copy is a big part of your business then it will save you a lot of money over time not having to pay a professional copywriter, whose fees are usually very high.
Funnel Scripts: What Scripts Are Available?
In this section, I’ll share with you all the different kinds of scripts you can create and show you screenshots of each section so you’ll know exactly what you get with Funnel Scripts.
Not only are there quite a few different categories of scripts you can generate, but each category also has several different types of scripts. This is good so you can drill down to create exactly the right kind of script you need for the right channel you are promoting through.
While most scripts work directly from the dashboard, others are available to you form the dashboard as downloadable wizards.
Some of the most common scripts people use include:
Email scripts
Ad scripts
Headline scripts
Bullet scripts
Sales letter scripts
Video sales letter (VSL) scripts
Besides these, Funnel Scripts also has a ton more. Check out the full list of available scripts below.
Get Funnel Scripts Lifetime Deal Here
Funnel Scripts Pricing
Funnel Scripts used to be a yearly subscription at $497 per year.
However, in 2019 the Funnel Scripts pricing changed to $797 for lifetime access.
While this is a fairly high price to pay initially, if you will need to write good sales copy in your business on an ongoing basis then this is a better deal than the original price of Funnel Scripts.
Basically, you need to consider how important it is to you and your business to write good copy before you buy Funnel Scripts.
For example, if you need to regularly write emails to your list, headlines for your blog posts, ads, and landing pages or if you’re regularly creating ads and need them to always perform well then it may be worth it to you to invest in the Funnel Scripts lifetime deal.
Whether you should buy Funnel Scripts or not will depend on several factors. You need to weigh up the following:
How often you will need to create copy
How much money would it cost you to outsource it to a professional copywriter
How much time would it cost you if you decide to learn copywriting yourself
How much might it cost you in both time and money to do it yourself through trial and error
Funnel Scripts Free Trial
When people hear about this software they often ask, is there a Funnel scripts free trial?
The answer is, Yes.
However, while there are a large number of scripts you can create with Funnel Scripts to make copy for all kinds of reasons, there is only the Funnel Scripts free headline generator that can be used on the free trial.
If, while you’re reading this Funnel Scripts review, you’re interested in taking this sales copy generator for a test-drive then you can try the Funnel Scripts headline generator for free here.
Personally, I would like to see a free trial of other scripts besides only the headline script. For example, I think it would be really helpful to also include an ad script and a bullet script trial so people can get a clearer picture of what Funnel Scripts can actually do before they purchase.
However, the headline generator script is a good tool and gives a reasonable insight into the Funnel Scripts software. Just be aware that the tool can do so much more than just create fancy headlines.
Funnel Scripts Webinar
Jim Edwards and Funnel Scripts co-founder, Russell Brunson created an hour-long copywriting webinar that teaches some important fundamentals of copywriting that marketers and entrepreneurs need to understand.
While, of course, this webinar does also promote the Funnel Scripts product, they show you everything the software can do, what you get when you invest and how to get all your copy from sales letters, webinar scripts, ads, and even email sequences written in under 10 minutes.
If you’re not interested to buy Funnel Scripts but you do want to learn more about copywriting then I still recommend you watch this webinar.
You can watch the Funnel Scripts webinar here.
Where Can You Buy Funnel Scripts?
The owners of Funnel Scripts would prefer you to first watch their free Funnel Scripts webinar and then move through their sales funnel. This way they can hook you in and sell you more stuff.
However, if you just want to buy Funnel Scripts without having to go through the sales funnel then here’s the back door where you can buy Funnel Scripts directly.
Funnel Scripts Pros and Cons
Like any product you buy, there will always be pros and cons. Here are the pros and cons of Funnel Scripts:
Funnel Scripts Pros
Instant access once you purchase
Easy to use
Instruction videos for each script
Many different script types for all kinds of marketing needs
Easy to use script generators
Data input fields allow you to customize scripts with your personality and to fit your audience
Multiple versions of each script generated to give you choice
Scripts can easily be edited
Example scripts included
Additional downloadable wizards for more complex script creation
Lots of training videos
Monthly webinars
Additional bonuses included
Funnel Scripts Cons
Some scripts take time to enter all your data into the input fields
Sometimes the script can be a bit generic – fortunately you can customize and edit the scripts as needed
It can take a while to get your head around all the different available features
Initial price can be high for some small business owners and solopreneurs (fortunately, this has been improved slightly since Funnel Scripts has now been made a one-time purchase)
Funnel Scripts: My Final Thoughts
When you buy Funnel Scripts you certainly get a lot for your money. There are a ton of scripts available inside the members area, and you also get access to a few downloadable wizards for more advanced scripts.
Russell and Jim have included scripts for all kinds of copy you might need to create.
While the initial price tag of $797 can be expensive for a lot of entrepreneurs, if you’re going to be using it regularly then, in my opinion, it is worth the investment as it can save you both time and money moving forward.
So now, the question is, do you and your business need it..? Only you can answer that question.
If you’ve not already tried the free headline generator, why not try it out to see what it can do.
If you want to have a more detailed look at the product that goes beyond this Funnel Scripts review, and see it live in action then I highly recommend you join the free copywriting webinar with Jim and Russell.

Time To Go [2]: Dante Makes Hot Dogs And Doesn’t Get Laid
Fandom: Devil May Cry Rating: M Characters: Nero, Dante, Vergil, Kyrie, Nico, Trish, Morrison Tags: Mystery, Humor, Missing Person, First Time, Family Drama, Family Bonding, Post-Canon Chapter: 2/9 Chapter [1]
Summary: When Kyrie goes missing, Nero goes on a desperate search to find her. Unfortunately, Dante and Vergil go too. Sparda boys shenanigans, fighting demons, a smattering of family drama, and male bonding (otherwise known as Nero’s worst nightmare). Please check it out below, or you can read on FFNet or AO3. Beta read by @copper-wasp.
Now posted! Chapter 2: Dante Makes Hot Dogs And Doesn't Get Laid, in which Dante and Nero get a clue to what happened to Kyrie.
━━━━━━━✧━━━━━━━
Dante can feel the tension radiating from Nero as he drives the van back towards Fortuna. The kid hadn’t said anything since Dante insisted on the keys, slouched instead in the passenger seat as he stared out the window. It had taken every last ounce of his wits to navigate the city streets—driving the van after being used to his bike felt like he might as well be driving a whale—but now that they are on the highway, he relaxes a bit and glances over.
“Still nothing?” he asks.
“The phone hasn’t rung, has it?” Nero bites back sarcastically.
Dante’s lips press together; the kid is just as sarcastic as Vergil, one of the hundred ways they are similar without meaning to be. Genes are a hell of a thing, he has come to realize, so he tries another approach. “Tell me what you did today—maybe I can help figure out what’s missing.”
Nero looks at him skeptically, but sits up a bit. “I woke up and Kyrie was gone. She uh… she slept in my room last night.” Dante glances over with his brows raised and spots the blush on Nero’s face before he turns back to the window. What was that about? “I figured she had a meeting or something, something to do. It was late enough that the kids had already left for school.
“I went downstairs and got breakfast, checked for messages, checked the mail. By lunchtime I hadn’t heard from her, so I called her cell, but she didn’t answer.”
“Was her phone in the house?”
“Huh?”
“What I said,” Dante replies. He switches lanes abruptly, sending the van rocking for a moment. “Did you check the house for her phone?”
Nero frowns. “No. But I didn’t hear it ring.”
“Could be dead. Or she doesn’t have it on her. But go on.”
Nero hesitates for a second, as if considering, and then continues, “Nico was in the garage. She said she hadn’t seen her either. I walked around a bit, went to the store, checked at the cafe she likes. Nobody saw her.”
“Nico didn’t hear her leave?”
Nero snorts. “Nico wouldn’t hear a dinosaur when she’s working in the garage.”
“Then what?”
“I don’t know. Would you keep your hands on the wheel?” Dante stops fixing the mirrors at Nero’s exasperated tone. “I called more people. No one had talked to her today. Then I got a phone call about somebody who needed help. It wasn’t the cops though, it was an anonymous tip. But when I got there, nobody was there.”
“That’s weird.”
Nero sighs and puts his foot up on the dashboard. “Happens sometimes. Somebody wants me to fight a demon but it clears off before I get there. When I got back home, the kids were there, but still no Kyrie. That’s when I got really worried.”
His phone rings, startling them both, and Nero nearly drops it out the window as he fumbles for it. “Yeah?” he says quickly, his shoulders tense. “No,” he growls, “we’re at least ten minutes away… No, he can’t have ice cream… For fuck’s sake, Nico, can you just handle it? Tell them to get their homework done and go to bed… I don’t know, make them sandwiches or something.”
He jabs at the screen angrily before rubbing his forehead. “God help us all if she ever becomes a mother.”
Dante snorts at that. “Yeah, she don’t seem the type.”
Nero goes back to staring out the window. He is quiet for a few minutes before he says, “If something’s happened to her—”
“She’s fine ,” Dante insists.
There is another brief silence, and Dante mulls over what to do. Nero is usually a fairly level-headed kid… at least as level-headed as a twenty-four-year-old half-devil can be. But he has a stubborn streak a mile wide and a blind spot the size of the Grand Canyon when it comes to Kyrie, so his main worry now is keeping him from doing something rash and getting his ass handed to him. He swerves a bit while deep in thought to avoid a pothole, but almost sideswipes a car in the next lane. The car blares its horn and Dante blows his own back, flipping them off as the car speeds by. “Watch where you’re going!” Nero yells.
“He almost ran into me!” he protests.
“Christ, just get us home in one piece,” mumbles Nero.
Dante huffs, putting the turn signal on to switch lanes. Soon their exit appears, and they arrive in Fortuna without further incident. When he parks in front of the house Nero leans over to yank the keys out of the ignition. “You are never driving my van again,” he announces as he jumps out of the passenger side.
“Whatever.” Dante walks around the vehicle and follows Nero into the garage. It is empty, and he glances curiously at the array of gadgets in various stages of building that lay scattered on the work table. Nero leads him through the door to the kitchen, where they find Nico. “Finally,” she sighs, hands on her hips.
“Where’s the note?” Nero asks.
“I’ll get it. Here.” She yanks a plate of steaming hot dogs out of the microwave and shoves it at Dante. “Go feed them.”
Dante frowns as she hurries out of the kitchen. “Come on,” Nero grumbles, leading him into the dining room.
Their place is almost as big as Dante’s building, but with nine people in the house it is cluttered with stuff. Bins of toys, shelves filled with books, shoes stacked by the front door, and the cartoons blaring on the television make the house feel much cozier. However, as he navigates the toy-strewn floor Dante decides he prefers his own place. This is especially true when they get through the family room to the dining room, where six faces turn when they enter, all talking excitedly.
Nero actually smiles a bit when they are so happy to see him, and Dante decides to get in on things. “Hey, kids!” he says with fake enthusiasm, lifting up the plate dramatically. “Uncle Dante made you some dogs!”
The entrance goes flat, the room silent as they gape at him. Nero sighs as Dante lays the plate on the table, moving to stand behind the head chair. “Listen, guys, you’re gonna be on your own tonight.” He nods to the oldest boy who looks about twelve or so. “Samuel, you’re in charge. I want you all to eat and get to bed.”
“Where’s Kyrie?” Samuel asks.
“She’s working tonight,” Nero says. “I’m gonna go pick her up, but it will be a while. Nico will be here if there’s an emergency.” He narrows his eyes and drops his voice a bit. “Everyone got it? We need everyone’s help for this team to work.”
The kids agree and Nero starts handing out the hot dogs, stopping when he is done to give Samuel a few quiet instructions. Dante waits with his arms folded until a hand tugs on his jacket.
“Are those real guns?” one of them asks, pointing to Dante’s hips.
“Uh…” He looks over at Nero, who isn’t paying attention. “Yeah, they are.”
“Can I have one?”
“No.”
“Can I touch it?”
He frowns down at the little boy, who is staring at him with an eager curiosity. “No!”
“Do you kill people with it?”
“Nero?” he shouts. “You ready?”
Nero glances over and nods, and after giving Samuel a firm pat on the shoulder, he leads him back out to the garage. Dante glances behind and frowns at the one who was questioning him, the kid nearly falling out of his chair leaning back to watch him leave, and shakes his head as they step through the doorway. “Kids are the worst,” he mutters.
That earns him a sideways glance as they walk over to Nico, who is standing in front of her work table. “Where’s the note?” Nero demands.
“Here.” She hands over an envelope and a folded piece of paper. “It was sealed when it arrived.”
Nero opens the note, reading it for a second before handing it to Dante. In a script that is too perfect to be handwritten, it reads: Don’t look. I’ll be in touch.
He frowns, trying to figure out what it means. “See?” Nero hisses. “Someone’s taken her.”
Dante doesn’t answer, handing the paper back to him. “Where do we start looking? Who would want to hurt you guys?”
He and Nico exchange a glance. “Plenty of people, actually,” Nico replies, and his brows raise. “Everybody knows Nero is the city’s demon hunter, so not only can the demons find him if they know what to look for, any sympathizers can figure it out too.”
“It has to be someone connected to the demon world,” he growls.
“I don’t know, Kyrie has her own set of people who would want her gone, too,” Nico says.
The two men look at her strangely and she shrugs. “I mean, she’s important, right? She’s one of the last survivors of the Order. Lots of people died, so if someone wanted revenge, Kyrie is an obvious choice. Plus now she’s a public figure. People hated the Order, and don’t want Fortuna to have anything to do with it. Other people hate the new charity, wanting the Order back in charge.” She gestures to the letter. “I’d say half of Fortuna could be a suspect. And that’s not even counting anyone who hates the Spardas.”
“I get it,” Dante groans, rubbing his face. “All right. What we need is a clue. We gotta narrow this down somehow.”
“How do we do that?” Nero asks.
He looks at his wrist before realizing he doesn’t wear a watch. “It’s not that late. I know an empath in a town not far from here. Let’s roll.”
“Fine. I’ll drive.” Nero stuffs the letter in his jacket pocket and heads for the door.
“Want me to come?” Nico offers.
“No. Stay here and answer the phone. And don’t let the kids burn the house down.”
Nico makes a face, and Dante salutes her with a laugh before he follows him back out to the van. Both climb inside and shut the doors, and Nero pulls out into the street, heading for the freeway that will take them west.
Dante gives directions and then starts to fiddle with the radio. “This empath any good?” Nero asks.
“Yeah. She’s good.” He settles on a station and drums his fingers on the armrest.
“Has this ever happened to you?” Nero asks.
Dante looks over, his brows drawn in question. “Has what ever happened to me?”
“Demons coming after you like this?”
He thinks about all the times a demon came crashing into his shop or showing up where he was, the times a hoard had overrun a town he was staying in, all the way back to the day an army descended on his childhood home. “Yeah. It’s happened.”
“Fuck this,” Nero hisses. “Why’s it gotta be us? I didn’t ask for this life. I didn’t ask to be a demon hunter.”
“Yeah,” Dante agrees, sighing as he looks out the window. “None of us did.”
━━━━━━━✧━━━━━━━
Nero takes a moment to look at the little house before following Dante towards the front door. It looks completely normal, faded yellow paint on the shutters, a little picket fence, the front path neatly swept. It is nearly eight o’clock by the time they are on the porch, ringing the bell, but the lamps inside still give a glow through the windows and Nero can hear the television on the inside. It’s not until they are waiting that he notices a sign hanging over the front step that says: Psychic Readings, Walk-Ins Welcome.
A moment later the door opens. A young woman with long white hair wearing an oversized sweater and glasses looks up at them. “Can I help you?”
Nero clears his throat but Dante holds out his hands. “Lir! Long time no see!”
“You have got to be kidding me.” She scowls up at him, and it would be almost comical with her height that only goes to about Dante’s shoulder. But her look is fierce and her voice bitter as she snaps, “I can’t believe you have the nerve to show up here.”
“Don’t be like that, hon. Besides, I need your help.”
“Help?” she scoffs.
“Yeah. I’ll even pay you.”
She looks at him suspiciously before giving Nero a once-over. Then she steps back and waves them inside. “You have ten minutes.”
“Thanks, babe.” Nero follows him as they step into the foyer. The house is decorated simply, the walls and floors wood, and she leads them into a small parlor but does not offer them seats.
“Well?” Lir asks, folding her arms.
Dante clears his throat. “Kid’s got a note and don’t know who it’s from. Think you could tell us?”
Lir snorts. “You know my empathy doesn’t work that way.”
Nero’s heart sinks, but Dante moans, “Oh come on, can’t you try? Just see if you pick up something.”
She heaves a huge sigh and walks behind a desk in the corner. As she takes a seat in the desk chair, Nero and Dante move to take the two opposite. Nero leans forward eagerly, his elbows perched on his knees, as Dante sits back and crosses one leg over the other.
“So what is this note?” she asks.
Dante nudges him so Nero says, “My girlfriend has been kidnapped. This was delivered earlier.” He pulls it from his pocket and holds it out with the envelope, but Lir simply looks at it. “Some demon wrote this, but we don’t know who.”
Lir gives a huff of air. “It’s not from a demon, I can tell you that much by looking at it.”
“What do you mean?” Nero frowns. “You can’t just know that!”
“Sure I can.” She looks at Dante blankly. “Twenty dollars.”
“Please! Just—” Nero growls and shakes the note at her. “Just take it! Try something.”
The woman’s shoulders flex a bit as she leans forward, her hands planted on the desk and her voice no-nonsense. She looks intimidating despite her small frame and pretty face, and Nero feels his ears go pink. “You listen here,” she says in a low tone. “I’ve been reading people my whole life, so when I tell you that there’s no demon on that paper, then there’s no goddamn demon on that goddamn paper, you understand me?”
Fury bubbles over as Nero curses and jumps to his feet. “This is bullshit. You’re a hack.” He points an angry finger at Lir who shoots him a scowl. He tries to think of something else to say, but when nothing comes to mind he shouts, “Come on, Dante, let’s go.”
“Babe.” Dante sighs and leans forward, and Nero gapes at him as he props his elbow on the desk and his chin in his hand. “Don’t be too hard on the kid. He just lost the woman he loves. I mean, look at him.” They both glance at Nero, who frowns. “If I had someone to love like that, I’d be losing my shit too. Only…” He gives her a slow smile. “I don’t have somebody to love. I always wished I had a sweet, pretty thing, long white hair and dark lashes, lips full and pink and ready for me to—”
“Okay! Okay. Just… stop.” But she is laughing, and she shoots him a look as she holds her hand out to Nero. “Let me see it.”
He hesitates just a second before giving over the letter. Lir’s brows go up in surprise as soon as her hand closes around the paper. “Well. What do you know? There is a demon on this note.”
She frowns but Nero says, “I knew it! A demon sent this, didn’t they?”
“No,” she answers. “It’s just a trace. Probably from you handling it so much.”
Nero feels the blood drain from his face. “What do you mean? I’m not a—”
“I’m not stupid,” she huffs, looking at him sharply. “I know a half-breed when I see one.” She looks at Dante and rolls her eyes. “Where did you find this kid?”
“He’s my nephew,” Dante explains.
Lir lets out a huge laugh. “Should have known! Just like the rest of you Spardas. Stubborn and stupid.”
Nero slumps a bit in his chair as she goes back to concentrating. “There’s definitely a mix, but again, it’s hard to tell. Should have worn gloves or something at least,” she scolds him. Then her brow tenses. “It’s someone connected to you. Someone close.”
“What?” Nero leans forward, looking at the letter. “Who could it be?”
“Did Kyrie write this?” Dante asks.
He looks sharply at him, ready to argue, but Lir shakes her head. “No, I’m pretty sure it’s not connected like that. It’s a relative of yours.”
Nero feels his ears burn as something churns in his stomach. “I knew it. I fucking knew it.” He stands and looks at Dante, who is frowning up at him. “That bastard.”
“Wait a second,” Dante snaps.
“Fucking Vergil. I’m gonna kill him.” Nero grabs the note and heads for the door, but Dante is quicker. “Move,” he growls.
“You don’t know it’s him. Don’t be stupid.” Dante jerks his head up. “And you owe her twenty dollars.”
Furious now, Nero pulls out a wad of cash and tosses it at Dante, hitting him in the chest. Then he steps around him and storms out of the house, yanking open the door of the van.
Dante climbs in the passenger side as Nero starts the ignition. “You can come, but don’t try to stop me,” Nero warns.
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Dante replies, reaching down to lean the seat all the way back.
Nero glances over, not entirely sure if he’s telling the truth. Dante props his feet up on the dash and promptly begins to snore as Nero drives the van back towards the city. Up ahead the lights flicker on the horizon, and he narrows his eyes, knowing that Kyrie is there somewhere, waiting for him.

Haven DVD Commentary: 5.10 - Mortality
Commentary with Speed Weed (writer of the last episode) and Adam Higgs (writer of this episode)
AH: This was my first episode of Haven to write. It was a lot of fun. SW: Yeah you came in when we were already a couple of episodes into the season, and you just got up to speed so fast, it was really great. AH: It was a really nice room to come into, great writers, good people. So we changed the opening of this episode a lot. This fist scene of 5.10 was at one point at the end of 5.09, we had it further down near the end of act one at one point. [As we see Audrey driving] SW: There’s the Toyota integration AH: Yes, and a nice beauty shot of the Toyota there. So Audrey here is coming back from dropping off Hank SW: And Emily is talking here to Lucas Bryant’s wife, who did such a good job on the show [as Rebecca Rafferty] AH: I really wanted to start this episode with lots of tension. I thought Speed took us to a nice level, everyone’s against each other, there’s so much conflict going on, and I wanted to start this episode really hot and just push through. And keep raising the tension to be honest. SW: Yeah, and it ramps up very high, by the time we’re done.
AH: So, the fact that this contagion does set off Troubles like crazy, made this episode have some of the most Troubles SW: I don’t think we’ve ever had nearly as many Troubles on one episode as this one AH: I think we might have trumped it with our next pair of episodes, but up to this point it’s a record SW: And it was great to have your fresh blood in the room because, we sort of have this exhaustive pile, or what we thought was an exhaustive pile, of potential Troubles. And you had the challenge of having a bunch of little Troubles, or not little - they were big Troubles but we didn’t make big stories out of them. So you had to sort of ping them here and there; this Trouble’s happening, then this Trouble’s happening. And you did a really good job of getting a whole bunch of Troubles into one episode that we’d never seen before. We as a room had never talked about before. AH: it was a lot of fun. There’s a list for the room of Troubles that they wanted to have in previous episodes, but didn’t have enough context to tell a whole story around, so we were able to talk those dribs and drabs and mush them together to make one big story.
AH: Another nice shot of the inside of a Toyota there [as Charlotte puts the dashcam on.] And this is a nice little scene here, a bit of Haven meet-cute. SW: Yeah; for our first date we can go to a firing range and you can shoot me! Adam you wrote some scenes for Laura’s audition [Laura who plays Charlotte]. Was it a version of this scene? It was before we had actually gone to script on these episodes. AH: Yeah, there was a version of this scene, and then a version of another scene which is coming up later. So we got to hear her perform some of this in our audition.
SW: There was even an earlier version where Dwight’s last line in 5.09 was “I’m going to tell her [Charlotte] about the Troubles.
*both laughing at Mara and Duke’s first lines to each other* AH: I like the interplay between Duke and Mara SW: Yeah. AH: It’s nice to pair certain characters off together; Duke and Mara, Charlotte and Dwight. SW: It’s a big decision for Duke here, it alters the course of the entire season. AH: What a different show it would be if he was just like; Nope. And left Mara chained up for the rest of the season. And that nice sly smile from Mara there.
AH: So again a couple more Troubles here to demonstrate [the Guard member turning a banana ripe with her touch]. One of the things we wanted to do here was just really try to deal with the reality of what it would be like for a person of science to see the Troubles and really accept what it is. And so we see some push back, instead of how often on a show like this, or on this show, it’ll be like; I’m magic! And there’s just an acceptance right away. But we wanted to really push to see what it would take for someone to buy it.
[As Vince is talking to whichever public official it is in Bangor] AH: So here is Conrad Coates who I worked with on Republic of Doyle, it was fun to have him here for this storyline. We got to have Vince throw his weight around a bit, which I really enjoyed. SW: I love that he decided to wear a tie but keep the plaid shirt. AH: And I think Conrad is now on a sci-fi [SyFy?] show … I want to say Dominion I think he’s been cast in, as a new regular.
[As Audrey and Nathan are on their way to the cells to speak to Victor Kirby] SW: Here’s a story line that worked out very well, but I wish we’d had a chance to do your original - you were going to do a nod to Kristine … AH: Yeah so Victor Kirby who we’re about to meet, has a very different Trouble from what he originally had. We had planned to have him have the machine Trouble SW: Louis Pufahl’s AH: Right, machine man with the zamboni episode where machines fell in love with him and reacted accordingly. And Kirby was going to have a Kristine-like Trouble, but instead of the machines loving him, because he treated them poorly they were trying to kill him. So we had this wonderful sequence with a car chase and Nathan trying to take out the engine and stuff and it was great. We went pretty far on it; Rick, the director had it all story-boarded out, and then we ended up having to cut it. SW: It just proved too expensive in the end I think ,right? AH: Yeah, it was a cost issue. So we went and looked for a different curse for him to have. And one of the fun things here was to bring back something from a past episode. And the ability to see the future, in a way, was a fun one just to tease what’s going to happen. SW: Well the pay off is great. It did much more for the arc of the season than the Kristine one would have done. AH: Exactly, it did just fit into place a lot better. SW: Yeah; he sees Audrey’s death. AH: Vanessa Stanley’s Trouble. And it also reminds us of Duke’s experience of this Trouble in terms of the vision Vanessa had of the arm, which we’ll play on in episode 26.
AH: I love that little dog on Duke’s dashboard there. And again, it was such fun to write these scenes. Mara has such a different voice from a lot of the characters on the show. And again this is a really tense episode, the stakes are really high and she’s able to inject a bit of humour, a bit of fun. AH: And this was fun, getting to have Stan have a little interplay here with Eric. SW: Good old Glen Lefchak, such a nice guy. AH: So we’ve got a Victor Kirby and Stan the Man references, going back to my love of the printed form. So references to Jack Kirby, and then Stan Lee, for Duke’s “Stan the Man” line. I think that’s all I did in this one, sometimes in other episodes I’ll name everyone after a hockey or something, so I always try to have some kind of naming convention. SW: Oh that’s good, I’ve never done that.
[As Charlotte is looking through press clippings about gas leaks] AH: And again we’re trying to deal with the reality of it all. SW: Yeah, make Dwight earn it. AH: And it’s kind of fun to deal with the layers of it all. One of the things we haven’t talked about yet is how Vince and Dave have been using the paper to hide the Troubles, but now we’ve also got this character Peter Palek who’s been using information and data to hide the Troubles for years - his whole life basically.
[As we see the Troubled bear suit in the station] AH: I love this music, it’s such a great little cue. And it was great how well this bear curse lined up with what’s going on with Audrey. SW: Thematically with Audrey, right; her worries about is she just an empty suit like the bear AH: There’s some wonderful resonance there. And I like the interplay here with Nathan and Audrey too. It was fun in this season, and coming on board in this season, with the relationship between them being a bit more solid. It’s not a will-they-won’t-they thing, it’s more of a; We’re a couple and we’re in a relationship, and what is like when you’re in a relationship; how you protect each other, but can still give each other space, because you’re in that comfort zone of knowing that this is going to continue. You don’t have to always be buying flowers and dinners every night. Though I’m sure Nathan still does do that every night. SW: Oh, for sure. AH: And again there’s some call backs to previous Troubles there [as Nathan is mentioning douens and golems]. It was fun to come onto a show that has so much mythology and so many stories to highlight. And I think one of the goals for this season was just to lean into that a bit and make reference to where we’ve been and - [sentence cuts off abruptly, presumably as they go to the ad break]
AH: There’s Jayne [who plays Gloria]. I liked writing for her as well, she has an interesting role as a character where she can say some things that no one else gets to say. SW: Yeah, totally free of pretence
SW: It’s interesting about Audrey and Nathan’s relationship. It makes me think that in a lot of ways - I certainly hope the show comes back, but we were writing it to 5.26 imagining that it might not, and wanting to wrap it up in a satisfying way. And, as all shows do, or certainly supernatural shows as they age they become much more serialised, and you can see how much more serialised we’re getting here. And it allowed us to take Audrey and Nathan to a new level, because we didn’t have to build up from there. But if the show comes back, it will come back in a way from 5.26 that has to be reinvented; it coudln’t be the same show. The stakes get too big AH: Yeah we can’t just pick up from where 5.26 left; so much has changed, so much is different. SW: No, I mean, we bring in William Shatner, that’s now big it gets. The Captain himself.
AH: So again we’re ratcheting up the tension here SW: Yeah, if 5.09 was structured as a farce, this is structured as a disaster movie.
AH: It’s interesting, five seasons into a show, getting to see how characters grow and change. Like Speed was saying, it becomes more serialised. And just to see how far Dwight’s come since his first episode when he was a fixer in the background. SW: Yeah, huge change. AH: And he’s now in charge of the Guard, in charge of the police. He’s the hero of this town and he has to act like it. Big decisions, big pressure. SW: And we did that because he let us. He came out of wrestling, never really having acted before, and just did a phenomenal job. And every time we gave him a new inflection, he really delivered. So we really came to feel that there was nothing we could give him to do that he wouldn’t just hit out of the park, and he did. He has a long career in Hollywood if he wants it. AH: For sure.
AH: Now I don’t remember exactly what the combination is on this lock [on the safe in the police station with the aether in], but I do know it’s a Stephen King reference. And this was fun for me to write [as Mara and Duke hid under the desk when Dwight comes in]; inadvertent sexiness. And I’m sure it’s going to be OK that Mara knows the combination to the safe now. SW: She’ll keep it to herself. AH: Exactly, she’s a very private person.
AH: I like Conrad Coates’ wardrobe here; he’s rocking that yellow tie with the yellow shirt there. Very different palette. And these were some of the issues, you know that maybe somebody influenced a political campaign, the Troubles in other parts of the world besides Haven, when we came up with the idea of the shroud, this was an answer to what’s happening outside Haven with the Troubles.
AH: Peter Palek is named after a doctor friend of mine, a good friend of mine, Gary Palek. And I’ve named a couple doctors after him in various shows. And we looked at Contagion the movie to get some of this nice research - and then of course, looked it up. But this R0 stuff [that Peter is writing up on the blackboard in the morgue] SW: And the other source of information that we had that was very helpful in these two episodes, is Adam has a close relationship with an epidemiologist in Canada, right? AH: Dr David Kelvin, my girlfriend’s father, is one of those WHO (World Health Organisation) doctors who travels around the world. He’s in China right now actually, there’s a bad outbreak there. So, if it goes really bad, then sorry you’re listening to this at the end of the world, but enjoy! [I feel the need at this point to note this was being recorded in 2015] SW: I love that the dude has a farm in the middle of nowhere in Canada in an undisclosed location, and suggests that everyone have such a place for armageddon. AH: Well the scariest thing was over Christmas I was told to stock up on tamiflu. But he was a great resource for some of this information on how diseases travel and how a CDC doctor would react. And odd fact about him is he wanted to be a screenwriter when he was younger, and ended up becoming a doctor instead. SW: Oh really! You can shoot him a freelance someday.
AH: Oh here we go, this was the scene that I wrote for the audition [Charlotte telling Dwight about tearing her containment suit in the middle of an outbreak in the Congo]. And she nailed it then and she nails it here again. And those were really the first scenes I wrote for Haven, and Speed gave me really good notes on them. I have to give huge props, and it helped so much to get that out of the way before I got to write this episode. So thank you again Speed. And there’s a reference to Cake Lady again! We love cake lady [the woman who everything she touches turns to cake] SW: She comes back in 26 doesn’t she? AH: I think so. SW: I hope she does. I haven’t seen a cut of 26 yet. AH: I have yet to see it as well. There’s a lot of cameos in 26 though. SW: There are; a lot of people involved. All shot in Canada. AH: Really good work by the two actors there in this scene. And props to Rick, the director as well.
[As Dwight is talking to Kirk in the hospital] AH: So this was an interesting bit of casting here, where we had numerous different characters in this role and it ended up working really well because Kirk continues on in the next two episodes. SW: Very prominently, and we’ve seen him before. AH: We have, and this was a different Guard member for a couple of drafts; it kept changing. Very happy where we ended up though.
[As Mara watches Charlotte leave the lab] AH: Now for everyone at home who’s seen the next few episodes, this is a big moment for Mara. SW: Huge. AH: Huge moment. She just saw … somebody who she’s kind of related to
[As Nathan and Peter talk to Dwight about how Peter is the source of the contagion and we see him struggling to stay calm about it] SW: We’ve always been interested (since I’ve been on the show starting from the beginning of season four) in people that you can’t Trouble Whisper. Shernold and I wrote an episode, 4.12, about a Troubled baby; you can’t Trouble Whisper a baby. And Adam did a great job here with someone that you can’t Trouble Whisper because Troubles work on emotions and Peter Palek is Asbergers - we never quite say it but, AH: He’s on the spectrum SW: Right
AH: I remember this was a later addition, this oxygen Trouble [Kirk’s Trouble sucking the oxygen out of the room], and it worked really well SW: It worked really well. Though we went back and forth about how Duke could actually move when everyone else was down. I forget what we added; oh he’s a scuba diver AH: There’s a scene that was added where he gasps for air at the open window. But we had gone through a bunch of things.
SW: Different Troubles are different in our universe. If someone dies in the middle of expressing a Trouble, some people the Trouble dies with them, other people it can live past them. We think it makes sense. AH: I think so. It was interesting coming on to the show because everything is well thought out. Nothing is random. There’s so much logic behind everything. The history of Troubles of how everything happened in previous episodes is all thought about, nothing is discarded, everything has to line up. And it was interesting to come on board and find how to tell these stories within those margins and those rules. Which I thought made for better stories.
AH: Now Nathan here is not remembering what you learn on an airplane that you should put the oxygen mask on yourself first. SW: He isn’t, but there was only one. He had to put it on his beloved.
AH: So here’s Duke taking a big breath out the window before he goes inside the hospital SW: His pearl diving. For black pearls.
AH: I love the shaky camera work here [to show the lack of oxygen]. Really good work by Rick. SW: Absolutely. I wonder how he shot that; is that a Go Pro on her chest? When you see their arms in front. AH: I think you’re right I think it would have to be. SW: Rick our director was a camera operator and then a DP and then a director, and you can really see that the camera work is just exceptional.
[As Peter is talking to Duke with Mara outside the hospital] SW: This ability of Duke’s has been quite the story engine for us over the years. It’s a real curse, to get a great benefit from killing somebody. What do you do? It’s a moral dilemma of the highest sort. And we’ve done a lot of flavours on it, but we hadn’t done this yet, where Mara forces the issue. Super cool, you did a really good job on this Adam. AH: And that ability, the fact that Duke is special, that Duke is different from everyone else, really builds for the end of this season and then even into the next SW: Much more so for his finale, so to speak AH: I really liked this a lot how all of the Troubles aren’t just powers they are actually curses, things you wouldn’t want to have. And they’re emotional, everything is routed in emotion, and there are places for the characters to go because of that.
AH: So there was originally an additional scene. This [where Dwight wakes up on the lab floor and Charlotte finds him] was not initially the last scene between Dwight and Dr Cross here, we went further on the first draft of this episode where they actually kiss. SW: Oh I had forgotten that. We just have to wait until 5.11 I guess right? AH: It might be 5.12 I think. But it would have been too fast to have it here. It was a great choice to wait. And the chemistry between Audrey and Nathan here is great. I loved writing them as a couple.
Nathan, on screen; “Things are finally starting to look up.” AH: Oh, can’t have that, things can’t go too well in Haven. Audrey; *coughing fit*
AH: And it was fun to tidy up this episode with all these little coda scenes at the end because  there’s just so much more coming. SW: And I just love this scene Adam [Mara talking to Duke in the front seat of the landrover], really, it’s the kind of emotional scene that we don’t get to do too often. It’s very real. It takes a supernatural thing where he had to kill this guy, and talks about the manipulation behind it. AH: It was interesting, I do believe personally from a writing standpoint that with Mara there is some honesty here. There is some truth in what she’s saying. SW: Yeah. AH: This isn’t just her trying to trick somebody. And that’s a fun device too, of Mara knowing everything that Audrey did, having all of Audrey’s memories. It’s a really unique way of utilising a character when you can flip their perspective completely and you still have all of that context. Mara, to Duke; “We’re on our own.” AH: It’s fun to think of this through the filter of what Mara just saw, seeing her mom.

If you’d like, you can send me one of @hiddendreamer67‘s October Giant/Tiny prompts, and I’ll write a fic for it.  Or, if you’d prefer, you can also send me two sentences and I’ll continue them like they’re a fic.
***********************
With a muffled hiss, the hatch of the capsule opened.  For a moment, nothing happened.  Then a figure in a suit, bulky and white, began to awkwardly make its way out.  Slowly, it maneuvered its laden form through the opening and onto the ladder to begin its descent.
Carefully, it made its way down the ladder, pausing only twice in its otherwise slow yet deliberate movements.  Once, to remove the covering of the plaque set into the ladder, meant to be left behind to commemorate this moment.  And once more, just before finally stepping down onto the dusty surface.
“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
The astronaut slowly lowered himself all the way down onto the surface, turning to begin exploring the surface of this distant sphere as the narration continued overhead.
“Though many have continued to debate this quote, both in its heard and scripted versions, the truth of its message is without question:  that this achievement, only made possible by the collaboration and cooperation of people of all walks of life, was a celebration of humanity at its greatest.  For with this single act, we proved that nothing could be beyond our reach, so long as we worked together for the betterment of all.
“And while it may have been the first, we truly hope that will not be our species’ last great first.”
Logan concluded his narration, closing the binder with the speech as he did so.  There was a pause, and then the classroom erupted in exuberant cheers.  As they continued to applaud, Patton came up between Logan and the desk, just as Virgil stepped out from behind the diorama to join Roman, who had since removed his helmet.  The four boys, two normal sized humans, and two tiny humanoids, bowed to their classmates as the teacher came forward, clapping his own hands in appreciation.
“Well done, boys,” Dr. Picani announced, continuing to applaud.  “A truly well planned and excellently designed presentation.  I know I still need to do a final scoring for your grade, but I don’t think any of us doubt that you will have earned a most excellent mark for this assignment.”
The four boys exchanged proud smiles, Patton going so far as to wrap Logan in a hug as Roman side armed Virgil and kissed his forehead, much to the smaller boy’s good-humored frustration.  Finally, they settled down enough to head back to their desks, Logan carrying the diorama and Patton following with their two tiny project partners held on his open palm.
“Now, considering how much time we have left in class, I believe we’ll stop there and pick up with the presentations tomorrow.  Feel free to talk amongst yourselves until the bell rings.”  With that, Dr. Picani returned to his desk to begin grading the written reports for that day’s batch of presentations, and the students all began to chat loudly as they packed up their bags for the final bell to release them to go home.
“You did so good on that, Lo-lo,” Patton squealed, giving his boyfriend another hug after setting Virgil and Roman down on the double desk the four of them shared.
Logan rolled his eyes at Patton’s embrace, but the blush on his cheeks betrayed how much he was actually enjoying it.  “Perhaps, but had you not helped me by providing some of the more...emotional phrasings, I do not feel my report would have had the same impact on our audience as it did.  And that’s not even mentioning the most exceptional work you did on the diorama.”
“Well, I had a little help on that from Virgil.  He really has quite the eye for detail.  I mean, just look at the amazing job he did with the space suit.”
Now it was Virgil’s turn to blush.  “It wasn’t anything special.  And it wouldn’t have mattered if we didn’t have the best actor in the school to play our astronaut.”
“What can I say?  I was inspired by your excellent design sense, My Chemically Imbalanced Romance.”  Roman bowed toward Virgil with a flourish, causing the other boy to snort and shake his head.  But the coy smiles the two were exchanging betrayed the real love behind the banter.
“In any case,” Logan injected, “I would be truly surprised if we failed to receive at least an A on this project.  And now that it is complete, we can focus on other matters.”
“Like what we’re doing this weekend!” Patton exclaimed.  “We are still on to go see the new Spider-Man movie, right?”
“As long as we’re going to the theater on Main Street,” Roman pointed out, working himself out of the suit with a little help from Virgil.  “On our last date night, Virgil and I went to one on Beta Avenue, and their tiny section was an absolute nightmare.  Bad sound, horrible view, and the snacks were stale at best.”
“I told you we shouldn’t have gone to an older theater,” Virgil chided him.  “It’s obvious they had to retrofit that section in, and they only did the minimum needed to comply with the anti-discrimination laws.”
“Why didn’t you report the situation to the management?” Logan asked.
“We did.  The owner didn’t even bother to try sounding sincere when he apologized for the conditions.  Stupid bigoted baby boomer.”
The thought of the generation that had fully embraced the idea of the “Pet Tiny”, to the detriment of the entire tiny race, spurred the group into silence as they packed up their supplies.
Soon enough, the bell rang to dismiss them for the day.  Around them, their classmates made their way out, with the humans heading for the door and the tinies boarding the in-school tram to head to their special locker area.  But Roman and Virgil made no attempt to catch the tram.  Instead, they each clambered onto one of their deskmate’s hands.  And with that, the four of them headed out.
With the buzz of excitement at the end of another school day, even if it was still just Thursday, Patton and Logan had a hard time keeping their hands steady enough for their companions to ride smoothly.  But they managed to keep them secure as they waded through the crowds of students clogging the hallways.  And soon enough, they were out the front door and heading for the parking lot.
Just before they reached Logan’s car, they heard someone calling for them from behind.  The pair turned, and the four of them waved and called out to their friend Thomas as he rushed to catch up, his hands full with his own pair of tiny friends.
“Hey, did the presentation go well?” he panted, trying to catch his breath.
“Indeed,” Logan replied.  “I believe it went over quite well.”
“We were fantastic,” Roman added.  “Especially me.”
“Yeah, keep telling yourself that,” Virgil quipped, smirking at Roman’s indignant reaction.
“I just wish you could have seen it,” Patton pouted.  “It’s too bad you couldn’t have had the same history class with us this year.”
“Yeah, but you know they only give AP Chemistry first period, which means if I’m going to be in Theatre, my only other option’s last period.”
“Which makes so much sense,” muttered the beanie-wearing tiny in Thomas’ right hand.
“They do have a point,” the other tiny with the multicolored hair in his other hand added on.
“Well, at least you three are still together for that class,” Roman conceded.  “Virgil and I are really missing you in first period.”
“Yeah, the other techies have nothing on you two,” Virgil commented, causing Joan and Talyn to blush at the compliment.
“Well, we’ve got to get going,” Thomas interjected.  “We’ve still got to finish our own presentation on the Million Tiny March.”
“You’re not finished?” Logan queried, eyebrows quirked in obvious exasperation.  Thomas shrugged in embarrassment as Joan cackled and Talyn frowned over at their datemate.
Logan rubbed his eyes in frustration, but before he could start lecturing them about proper time management, Thomas suddenly blurted out, “Well, gotta go, great to see you all, see you tomorrow!”  And quick as a flash, he and his partners escaped to his car and were gone.
“Relax, Lo-lo,” Patton cooed, rubbing Logan’s back to calm him down.  “You know they’ll get it done in time.  They always do.”
Logan sighed, but nodded in resignation at Patton’s words and turned to unlock his car.  Once inside, Logan and Patton placed Virgil and Roman down on the dashboard next to the tiny seats Logan had had installed for them.  And with the four securely buckled in, they set off for home.
As they passed through the various separated and integrated neighborhoods.  The four couldn’t help thinking about the implications of their project’s message, especially in regards to their own personal experiences with prejudice and bigotry.  Thomas’ mentioning of the March had reminded them of their struggles.  Logan and Patton’s relationship hadn’t exactly been seen as a very positive thing when they’d come out to their parents, though the two couples had eventually come around.  And there had certainly been a few bullies who tried to drum up homophobia around the two, though to very little success.
But that was nothing compared to Roman and Virgil’s own experiences.  The Equal Rights for Tinies movement had only barely succeeded in getting its Equal Rights Act passed before the two of them were born.  Virgil had almost been born in captivity in the testing lab with his mother, his father having been killed months earlier at the National Mall Riots.  Roman’s own parents had only been free because their owners had been swayed to support the movement, and they had been released into a tiny relocation program.
But even now, almost two decades after the passage of the act, there was still so much bigotry toward tinies.  So many older people still saw them as lesser beings, and even those who accepted them into society still treated them as second class citizens.  It was just not fair.
“Do you think they’ll ever really accept us as equals?”
Roman’s question caught them all off guard, especially Roman, who hadn’t realized he’d spoken aloud at first.  There was an awkward silence as he and Virgil exchanged worried, tired looks, and Patton opened and closed his mouth a few times, trying to think of something to say.  Finally, Logan spoke up.
“I think they will.”
The other three turned to him.  He wasn’t smiling, but his neutral expression seemed to radiate a determined confidence in what he was saying.
“I believe that they will accept you as equals.  Perhaps not the older generations, though there are many examples of those who have embraced the idea of Equality.  But I believe that we the younger generations have.  And even if they might be in power now, they are inexorably the past, and we are the future.  And as far as I am concerned, that future looks pretty bright.”
Patton beamed at his boyfriend, and reached over to hold his hand, which Logan reciprocated with a small smile.  Roman and Virgil smiled at him before turning to each other to share a hopeful kiss.
“Thanks for that, Logan,” Roman called back after breaking the kiss, still staring lovingly into Virgil’s eyes as the other stared back.
Logan nodded in reply as the cabin lapsed back into silence.  But this time, it wasn’t brooding or tense, but filled with a hope for the future that no amount of bigotry could extinguish.

What annoys you about the way LGBTQA+ is portrayed in books, films, and other media? Is there a stereotype people generally have that really upsets you? Please forgive me if I'm asking a sensitive topic. You do not have to answer this if it hurts your feelings or makes you uncomfortable.
Hi anon! Thank you for asking :)
This is definitely not a sensitive subject, but it might come across as a little ranting. I think talking about sensitivity issues is a brilliant thing and benefits everyone.
Bi-phobia, I hate bi-phobia.
I like when bisexual characters have a healthy relationship with sex and date whoever catches their fancy. Perf.
I hate when media takes a bisexual female character and either objectifies her for it or slut shames her as a joke or includes some line about “but aren’t you worried about her wanting to date girls again?”
Or a character shows interest in men and women, or is coded as bisexual, and they’re either straight-washed or gay-washed. This can happen from both writers/producers and from fandom.
Epithets in writing same sex couples:
This happens so much in fanfiction (because good book editors edit them out of books before they’re published) and I hate it.
In same sex couples, pronouns can get a little tricky because is she being used for girl 1 or girl 2? So writers start doing this:
The brunet/the blond or the brunette/the blonde (there are different spellings for gender, I found this out the not fun way of grammar editing an entire book)
Character A looked at the brunette with longing and said, “I love you.” Character B kissed the blonde.
And both the writer and the reader totally know the names of these characters they’ve seen for seven chapters so far but we’re still using epithets.
The younger man/the older man or woman, and suddenly you get gross sentences like.
Character A pushed the younger man into the kitchen. Character B offered the younger man a cup of tea and some biscuits.
Look, I know there’s only a two year age difference between these characters, but now I feel like one of them is at least a decade older and age gaps are hard for me to stomach as it is. And then, I see it with characters who are like, 18 and 20 and I just... why???
The (title/occupation/species) epithets. You know, if your wizard is dating a knight, and suddenly you have sentences like-
Character A led the wizard (who he has been dating for six months and totally knows the name of) towards the river. Character B touched the knight’s cheek and smiled at him.
Character A smiled at the young teacher and kissed her cheek. Character B blushed under the singer’s lips.
No. Thank. You.
You could find a good editor to fix those problems, ooooor, you could do the smart thing and learn to not do them.
Binding with ace bandages. Dangerous, terrible.
Years ago I watched a short film about a teenager realizing he’s trans and in the film he binds with ace bandages. I watched this before I knew I was gender fluid, and I’m very lucky that I read enough about binding from posts passing down my tumblr dashboard that I learned to never ever do that. I got myself a proper binder and then when I saw a different short film with a clip of the character binding with ace bandages, I almost lost my shit.
The person bullying the queer character was queer as well and possibly hiding their crush for them? Hate it. So. Much.
Would not date a single one of my school bullies, no matter what. I don’t care why they made fun of me. Not. Ever.
On the note of bullying, the thing I hated most about Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda was Martin. Martin never got punished and Simon was outed in a horrible and humiliating way and didn’t get to deal with the emotional aspect of that.
(Note, I love the book and consider it one of my favorites, but oh boy will I shred it when it comes to this topic)
Martin should have been punished for outing Simon. There should have been consequences. Martin was the obvious villain from the beginning and should have been treated as such. But he is repeatedly minimized in Simon’s narrative as so goofy you can’t hate him too much, and mostly harmless, and could almost be friends with if the blackmailing wasn’t happening. Simon tries to pretend he’s not that bad while Martin is blackmailing Simon to set him up with Simon’s friend Abby.
And I read Leah on the Off-Beat, which takes place a little over a year after the events of SvTHSA, and Leah says that she and Abby and Bram all hate and despise Martin, but Leah doesn’t get why Simon tries to be friendly with him when he was the one getting blackmailed for two months.
Love, Simon did it even worse, somehow??
In the book at least Simon had his friends by his side when he got outed. And when Abby found out why Martin was blackmailing Simon, and that Simon had helped set up hang-out time between her and Martin, she was upset. Rightfully so. She thought it was a terrible thing to do, but she recognized that Simon was a victim and she accepts his apology. She still takes time to acknowledge how that made her feel and she knows that Simon regrets what he did.
In the movie tho? Simon’s friends abandon him. I only watched the movie once for this reason, so I’m a little shaky on the details, but... Leah had a crush on Simon, which Simon misinterpreted as being a crush on Nick. He wanted Leah to be happy and suggested Nick ask Leah to the homecoming dance. He also set up Wafflehouse hangouts with Martin and Abby. And after Simon got outed, they talked and realized what had been happening. Sort of.
Because they got angry about what happened to them, but completely ignored that Simon had been blackmailed for two months. And stood there doing nothing, NOTHING, when he was being bullied and humiliated in front of the entire school. They just sat and watched it happen.
(So for that reason, I struggle to watch the movie, even if I adore Nick Robinson and Keiynan Lonsdale’s performances in the movie. The other actors were great. It’s just a writing issue with the script)
Wait, how did I forget how awful the outing post was??! The language in the post Martin made to out Simon was awful, cruel, and humiliating. What Martin said “as Simon” in the post that outed Simon as gay was horrible. And the book never let Simon acknowledge how awful the language felt. On top of being outed, it’s done in the most humiliating way possible, with horrible language and on the site where Simon first met Blue.
The book and the movie should have given Simon the chance to process all the horrible things Martin had done, how it made him feel, and let him heal from that.
I’m gonna end my rant there. I get heated every time I talk about this book.
Deadnaming a character, ever, for any reason
“My name wasn’t always Emma, it used to be [deadname].”
I can’t take credit for that example, because that example gets brought up A LOT in the community. It’s extremely disrespectful to call someone by their dead name, especially when you know better. Calling a character by their dead name is just as disrespectful.
Examples I’ve seen that work far better are, “My name wasn’t always Emma.” End sentence. No dead name given.
“I got [redacted] a present.” If this is someone who regularly deadnames the character, than hiding the name is best.
[redacted] is still kind of uncomfortable, because it just reminds me that there are still people in my life who dead name me as well.
For every trans or non-binary character I’ve ever written, I never give them a dead name. By this, I mean, I never take the time to figure out what their dead name would have been. I met my characters after they realized they were trans and settled on a name and pronouns. I never met them before that, so I have no business asking what it was before.
This is not exhaustive and I probably could go on for hours longer, but I’ll leave it here for now. Thank you for asking!

What's new in Vortex 1.2?
Since we last checked in back in November, Tannin and Nagev have been hard at work fixing bugs and adding new features to Vortex based on your feedback. We've just released Vortex 1.2 into the wild for you all to enjoy, so here's a round-up of what's new.  Updates for modders Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord support The wait is finally over! Bannerlord is here and it's great. We were lucky enough to get access to the Bannerlord beta (thanks TaleWorlds!) a short time before the Early Access release and created a basic Vortex extension for it. In v1.2 we've further refined it to include a fully featured load order tab where you can reorder, sort and toggle all your installed modules. Vortex will now also open the game in single player by default, instead of opening the launcher.  More Info: Modding Bannerlord with Vortex Halo: The Master Chief Collection Support You can now install your mods for Halo: The Master Chief Collection through Vortex. All mods packaged relative to the root game folder will be automatically compatible, we have been reaching out to authors ahead of this release to ask them to ensure their mods are packed in a Vortex friendly way. Map mods will show an icon indicating which Halo title they're intended for and you can group your mods by this property. We've also added a shortcut to Assembly to the dashboard for those who use the map patches. Let us know what you think!  More Info: Modding Halo: The Master Chief Collection with Vortex   Wolcen: Lord of Mayhem support Another new addition to our lineup is support for Wolcen. With Vortex you can install and manage the priority of conflicting XMLs, Vortex will then merge them in order and deploy the combined file to your game.  The Witcher 3 enhancements After "The Witcher" landed on Netflix, we saw a dramatic increase in users modding Witcher 3. The community provided some excellent feedback on areas of Vortex that could be improved for a better user experience. As a result, we've added load order management for Witcher 3 as well as closer integration with the Witcher 3 Script Merger by AnotherSymbiote. This allows you to easily create the load order you want, take care of conflicts, and merge script changes from several mods. More Info: Modding The Witcher 3 with Vortex Stardew Valley enhancements Based on the super helpful reports from the community, we've further improved Vortex support for Stardew Valley. Something that's been in the works for a while now. The most reported problem was how Vortex handled new files created by mods while the game was running. We've put a system in place that looks at new files in your mods folder and associates them with the correct mod so that they will be removed properly if the mod is disabled or uninstalled. This should prevent the harmless (but annoying) errors in the SMAPI log.  You will also be able to install and update SMAPI directly inside Vortex like any other mod, which makes keeping this vital file updated or toggling between the current and beta versions easier than ever. More Info: Modding Stardew Valley with Vortex Monster Hunter World enhancements In the recent Vortex releases, we made significant improvements to this extension already. Including detection and installation of Stracker's Loader and the ability to install and manage ReShade Presets. Version 1.2 features some additional refinements to preset detection and some handy shortcuts on the dashboard for HunterPie, MHW Transmog and SmartHunter Overlay. More Info: Modding Monster Hunter: World with Vortex Game extension updates are now delivered much faster It's been the case up until now that important bug fixes for game support had to wait until the next full Vortex release, we felt that this wasn't a great experience for users. In version 1.2 and above if a game extension is updated to include an important fix you'll get the update next time you restart Vortex.  Resizable Dashlets You can now right-click any dashlet to adjust the width and height to suit your personal tastes. The close button has also been moved into this menu to prevent it being clicked by accident.  Vortex now supports over 100 games! On top of the new games we officially support, the awesome developers in the community have created a bunch of new game extensions including:

Outer Wilds by amazingalek
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. To help you show your appreciation to the extension authors, a new dashlet has been added to showcase new uploads and remind users to endorse the ones they have already installed. Roll on 200 games!  [line] Updates for developers Simplified game detection We've made it easier for Vortex to find games from several of the popular game stores. The new GameStoreHelper class can easily detect games installed with Steam, GOG, Epic, UPlay, Origin or the Windows Store. The example below will check for both the Steam and Windows Store app IDs, then return the installation path for the game.  This function can also be extended by the community to include more game sources.  Documentation (Coming soon) | Example Improved support for Vortex Mod Loader In 1.1 we released the initial version of our Vortex Mod Loader (powered by Harmony). We've since made refinements to allow the mod patches to be applied to and removed from the game assemblies as part of Vortex's deploy and purge events. Users can now expect their game to be fully reverted to its vanilla state when purging their mods. Harmony extensions can also take advantage of a load ordering page (if required). We're also working on some enhancements to the Vortex In-Game Overlay (aka VIGO) to make it even more powerful for extension developers.  Documentation | Example Mod Load Order Page Several Vortex extensions utilise a page which allows users to adjust the priority of mods based on a load ordering system independent of file conflicts. Instead of requiring developers to build this from scratch each time, we've included a handy function as part of the context object to register a simple Load Order page for your game and offers several customisation options.  Documentation (Coming Soon) | Example Other Changes

Registrations with the API will generate an error if they're not inside the context.once() function when loading the extension rather than silently failing.
