actually one of the details that frustrates me the most from TSATS, relating to how much the book completely erases or absolutely bastardizes neurodivergence, is how Percy's cameo is characterized.
One of the consistent things aspects of Percy's relationship with the education system throughout the series is that Percy is smart, and he does try in school, but he has a learning disability. The only reason he gets bad grades is because he has a learning disability and the way the modern american education system is built is inherently at odds with that. In the first series we actually have explicit references to Percy doing better in school when he's in environments that actually accommodate for his disabilities! It's not that he's not trying, he's disabled.
So it is so disheartening and horrible to see Percy characterized in TSATS as just being disinterested in school, and his failing grades being made a joke about implying him ditching classes because he just doesn't care. That's the number one ableist thing ADHD/dyslexic students hear! Implying that they "just don't care" and dismissing their disabilities. It is so horrible to see that joke being made in the Percy Jackson series of all franchises. Especially when you add that on to the rest of the quite frankly ableist characterizations in TSATS and how much the book erases Nico and Will's disabilities/neurodivergence.

ive attended six total therapy sessions in my life and it was with a free university counsellor and i told her one thing that ill admit was pretty concerning but aside that spent the entire time waffling about shit that isnt actually super important i was 100% just talking for the sake of talking with 0 intention of receiving help and then when she asked me to come back i never rebooked and now i think daily about the fact she has information about me written down and i sometimes convince myself she’s going to use it maliciously and it is something i actively regret because of aforementioned conviction. so all in all i’d say i handled the whole thing with the mental fortitude of someone in need of significantly more therapy

generally i don't engage in debates with vegan animal rights types, because i'll inevitably say something about "i think you might be projecting a bit here. have you ever met a chicken?" and this ends up segueing into the story about the time my stepsister had pet chickens that slept in our garage. which begs the question of "what?" and i don't have a more satisfying answer than "frankly that whole thing was weird and idk why she did that".
and then the topic of conversation isn't animal rights anymore, it's about the peculiarity of the garage chickens. this just wasn't meant to be.

I recently made it through a round of TBR (that is: from one big ereader update to the next) and I found some good stuff! Here are some of the Hannigram fics that stood out to me! No theme but "look at what I particularly liked on my TBR" (except that AU is the way to my heart so, look, it just happened this way):
no hope of falling down by Fahye! I love a good AU and this one is SO good. Hannibal-cast-as-circus-performers is just my kind of weird & I thought everyone's roles were very well chosen. Many extra bonus points for having a dream sequence that to me read like an actual dream that is so immensely special to me.
Crossing Wires by littlebreadrolls: I finally managed to get around to reading the entire littlebreadrolls back catalog and all of them were great but this one found its way right to my heart. I love love love a good sci-fi AU. I love a conflicted Will and a Hannibal who seems to know much more than he should.
give it to the dirt by littleneedles (unfinished) is a great Will-Graham-as-New-Orleans-tour-guide-and-also-serial-killer AU which is currently ongoing and very fun! I'm a big fan of this flavor of already-a-killer!Will.
Someone Was Changing from the Inside Out by rosenritter (unfinished) is such a good Hannibal daemon AU (with a side of omegaverse). I love the daemon worldbuilding! I love the intercision stuff! I adore Sabine (especially some of the Sabine stuff from the last couple of chapters AAAAAH fuck)

i finally wrote an xword that i think might be nyt-submittable...i originally wrote it for the local paper though so i now have to go back through and rework the clues to take out the specific local ones and make some of the others harder. i know exactly which day of the week this would run in the nyt (if it gets accepted) because this type of theme always runs on the same day, so at least i know which clue difficulty to aim for, but i'm still finding it difficult to hit that precise level! i'm used to just making the clues as easy as possible because my local paper's audience is mostly people who aren't xword aficionados. i already reworked this puzzle a couple times based on feedback from friends and family but that was all still when i thought i'd be running it in my local paper. i kinda just want to be done with it but i've never had a theme and fill i thought were completely nyt-worthy before!

i have been laughing about this for a full day but it’s so funny to me that bruce is like “no… if i killed the joker for taking my boy away, i could never come back from that…” and then over in star city oliver, who has killed before and really struggled with it, is still absolutely hands down willing to kill someone for hurting connor. if he dies, so do you!

thinking abt how jamie would walk into abandoned buildings with no fear but refuses to go near stairs in the woods because he's not trying to tempt fate. he also won't cave dive because while he's just about the only person in the world that would survive even the worse of luck ( thanks for the shapeshifting @ genetics ), it feels very boring !! like why would he crawl around in a cave for the sake of being in a cramped & damp, not to mention dark, space when he could be doing literally anything else
