beta'd by jordi ENP. lots more to come but i'm on hiatus.
hello!! you probably won't see this, but that's what i told myself when i submitted a question under the name "gerry's oedipus complex" and you read it in the q&a episode anyway, so i guess i should get my hopes up a little. i just wanted to ask what your absolute favorite films are, since i think you have cool taste and i always need movie recs. thanks!
Always happy to give film recs, so my current top five (in no particular order):
The Thing (1982)
Absolute stone-cold classic. Arguably the best horror film ever made. Great monster, great effects, great Kurt Russell. Sorted.
Dark City (1998)
I wouldn't call this a "forgotten classic", exactly, but I don't see this super stylish sci-fi noir talked about enough. The vibes are astounding, though make sure you watch the director's cut (or mute the first 45 seconds) or there's a voiceover up top that gives away the big twist!
The Raid (2011)
A good martial arts movie, in my opinion, should have you graaaaduallly leaning forward in your seat as the fight gains momentum, then suddenly something really gnarly happens and you leap back going "Ooof!" That's this movie. Also heavily features my favourite punchman, Yayan Ruhain, doing some absolutely brutal punches.
Ravenous (1999)
Absolutely bonkers cannibal western with good scares, weird jokes, and Robert Carlyle's bum. If you're a fan of homoerotic fights to the death, the climax of this movie is for you.
RoboCop (1987)
Hyper-violent (and hyper-fun) satire of corporate capitalism and police militarisation, but more importantly: remember when RoboCop shot that dude in the dick?

Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the rundown apartment block has been considered untouchable. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite SWAT team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, they find themselves stranded on the 6th floor with no way out. The unit must fight their way through the city's worst to survive their mission.
ok, "Busted" made me think about it cause bj+handcuffs is so hot, so... maybe in The raid... Javi could handcuff Pobrecita, and make her blow Steve? 👀🥵
you had me at blowing big dick steve murphy, and I agree she could stand to be handcuffed again. . .as you know, some words tumbled out when I read this, and I'll link back to it when the time comes ♥️
"When I was a student, there's an Indonesian action movie titled "The Raid" (released 2011) that was popular around me, and I learned about a Southeast Asian martial art called "Silat" from that movie. […] Yuuji vs Choso battle from the Shibuya Incident was drawn inspired by this. That battle has the feel of "The Raid Gokudou" (released 2014)" - Akutami Gege commentary in Jujutsu Kaisen Fanbook
