#the rookie feds season 1 finale

this scene from the rookie feds 1x22 made me emotional 😭 it was very well done & i think what really stood out to me though was how you could hear brendon’s voice break a little bit as he told antoinette why things were difficult for him at quantico & how he didn’t really have anyone to help until simone came along. idk i can kinda relate to it in a way… and then him feeling like he owes her, i can also relate to when antoinette said how he needs to give himself a break — idk just all these things made me love this scene in a sad way. but also in a good way because it shows how good his friendship w/simone is now ❤️
PS: love how he mentions what laura said and how antoinette agrees w/her. gotta love two women in brendon’s life on the same page😅

★ JUST MY TYPE | LN4
Scenario: in which lando norris’ history with his new teammate leads people to believe they don’t like one another, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. (requested)
Pairing: lando norris x male!reader
A/N: we need more rep for male readers 🙌🏻 had so much fun making this one and as per usual, shout-out to @renarots for fueling this

Anyone who’s an up-to-date F1 fan knows all about this rivalry, but just in case you don’t, here’s a quick rundown.
It all started in their karting days. Every race they would go wheel to wheel, and often finish right behind the other. They pushed each other, both metaphorically and physically. In one race, a desperate attempt to overtake YN saw Lando Norris taking himself out of the race.
A few years later, the two would be promoted to Formula One, in which Lando signed to Mclaren, and Yn signed to Alpine - a mistake, if you ask me…or any other fan of his. That being said, it wasn’t Yn’s first choice. Mclaren was openly considering Lando Norris AND Yn Ln, but ultimately chose to sign Norris, with Daniel Ricciardo occupying the second seat. This only fed into their rivalry.
During their rookie year, they fought at the back of the pack as they learned the reigns of F1, but as Norris improved throughout the seasons, Yn was left behind. There’s a lot to unpack in regards to that, but in the simplest of terms, his team has constantly prioritized Pierre Gasly, their second driver, despite him being the inferior talent between the two. We’ve seen this happen with other teams, and that never ends well.
All of that leads to this shocking revelation: Yn Ln is joining the Mclaren Formula One Team. While we can’t say for sure how this will play out, we can speculate. Will they move past their differences and become the ultimate team? Or, will they become the next brocedes?

i bet on losing dogs
Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Renault, McLaren, Racing Bulls. Each one just doesn't fit for Daniel. It doesn't matter how hard he tries- he finds himself in an endless pit of a lack of self worth and doubt. After losing his McLaren seat to Oscar for the 2023 season- he believed that would be it for his f1 career. Until the divine intervention of each and every occurence of Nyck's rookie year landed him a spot at Alpha Tauri. Now, it was just a matter of time until he fucked that up to.

Shit shit shit.
The car feels so fucking bad, all janky and undrivable around the 34 year old’s worn out body. No matter how hard Daniel tries to focus on trying to keep the car from crashing into the wall, understeer is getting the best of him and he feels control slipping away further from him.
It's pure betrayal. The racing bulls had been so good in preseason testing, him and Yuki had been getting podium placements throughout- now he’s barely managing to take p17, swiftly avoiding DNFs. Of all races for this to be happening, it's in his own home race. He has thousands of devoted Australian fans out in the crowd watching him, watching him screw up and bring shame to his own country.
Yet, it hardly even feels like his home race. Ever since Oscar joined the year prior- essentially ‘taking’ his seat from underneath him, Oscar is the Australian in formula 1. Daniel is just the smiley guy who ‘deserves’ a seat, until he gets one and suddenly Liam deserves it more instead.
He doesn’t hear the end of it, blaring over and over in his ears that he’s ‘washed up’ and ‘undeserving’ of a spot. It’s such a drastic flip on the narrative he’d been force fed ever since his end of contract with McLaren had been announced at the end of 2021, that he ‘deserved the second seat at Redbull more than Checo’, that Oscar would be a ‘hopeless addition to the sport’, that he would ‘fail drastically,’. But due to how sheerly impressive oscars rookie year was, that ideal had been quickly discarded and the pure want for ricciardo in the sport was beginning to fade.
He’d spent the first time in a while feeling wanted when that was all going on. People from all over the world who loved the sport flocked together to support him- lest it was at the expense of a young talent entering the sport- a kid that Daniel was supposed to protect and support. He did so, showing Oscar the utmost respect and encouragement whenever seemed fitting.
It had been particularly impressive when the boy had scored his maiden formula 1 points at this very track only the year before, and now he was looking well onto securing a third podium position for his career. God, Daniel hadn’t gotten his first podium until his fourth year in f1 in 2014- at 25 years old then, he was looking far less impressive than the younger Australian.
His radio crackles in his ear, his engineer murmuring about how his former teammate and current world champion, Max Verstappen, had been forced to withdraw from the race three laps in. Daniel hissed into where his helmet squeezed against his chin, if even Max couldn’t complete this race- how would he?
The following laps were agonising, not a single overtake was performed or even attempted by the curly haired man. With Max retiring hardly into the race, Hamilton following with a power unit failure, and Russell crashing on turn 6 in the final lap, he already had three drivers below him. Poor Sargeant had had his seat taken away during fp2 after Alex crashed out his own car, the American being forced to give up his race weekend for his teammate. That was formula 1 though, giving up your spot- your hard worked for and deserved place in the sport- because you do what you’re told. Because of his complete lack of appearance, there were only 19 drivers to start with at the beginning of the race.
Both Kick Saubers and Alpines are behind him, Gasly creeping up onto his car’s rear. His current p12 grid placement is hardly impressive for a driver who had the potential to be a world champion only a few years prior.
Maybe if he’d stayed at Red Bull.
He pulls his car to a halt, his boney fingers wrapping around the sweat crusted handles of his steering wheel. His joints click awkwardly as he removes his hands from inside the car, too tense from the race. He tugs at his gloves, bunching them up into the palm of his right hand. Once he's out of the RB, he heads over to get weighed post race, his silver red bull emblazoned helmet in his opposing hands to his gloves.
He sees Yuki celebrating the four points he’s earned for the team, his old teammate Lando with race winner Carlos Sainz- the pair’s second double podium together- Oscar bringing spirit and celebration to the awaiting and patriotic crowd, the name ‘Piastri’ chanted throughout the rows and rows of grandstands.
Not a single murmur for Ricciardo.
The jealousy is still there, the weight of pressure and disappointment weighing down on his forever weakening body- still not quite the man he was before McLaren. The younger boy is relishing in the glory of his home race, all the attention he usually despises, while Daniel forces a weak smile, somewhat proud of what Oscar has to come for him, what he’ll achieve that Daniel couldn’t.
Daniel queues up behind Fernando to be weighed, scratching at the scruff of facial hair decorating over his cheek as he waits for his turn. He looks upward, ignoring the number on the scale that almost taunts him. Once that's done, he heads over to the media paddock, trying to get over and done with any painful interviews and questions he’s bound to receive.
He passes by Max, giving the man who had once raced alongside him a comforting pat on the back. The dutch hardly looks up at him, his sharp blue eyes softening as they look into warm honey brown ones, his bitten and bloody lips twisting up into a halfway smile from a grimace. “You were good, Daniel,” Max’s accent is thick and almost gluey, twinged with anger and disappointment. It’s the highest of compliments from the rawest talent on the grid currently, but Daniel can’t help but notice the weight of pity behind his words.
“You too,” Daniel squeezes over his friend's shoulder, watching his resolve fade slightly at the first sense of comfort since his retirement over an hour ago. The two men stay there in solace for a few moments despite the hectic surroundings enclosing them. It’s a part of the sport- learning how to find peace when there isn’t a single calm moment from the moment you enter racing, and it even continues years after you leave.
“Interviews,” Max’s voice interjects Daniel’s thoughts, his attention being brought to reality means he realises that Max is now standing up, hovering over Daniel just ever so slightly with a mere inch between the two of them. Daniel looks to the side where there’s a clump of drivers mingling in the media pen, microphones and cameras shoved into their sweaty faces, capturing their worn out expressions.
“Interviews,” He nods, wiping a hand over the back of his neck, sweat gathering in the gaps between his fingers. He smears it off down against his fireproofs before hooking two fingers around where the tight fabric wraps around his thick neck, pulling it out to regain the ability to properly breath. Max smushes his close cropped hair down under a navy blue cap just as a female interviewer ropes him into a conversation, Daniel left to his own devices.
He plasters his signature grin over his face as an interviewer, hardly looking old enough to be out of school yet, approaches him. His face muscles twitch and struggle to keep that phoney smile as he reflects back on the events of the disappointing home race. By the end, he feels weak and empty, letting the false cheerful expression slip back to a neutral cover up of harsh self critique. In order to mask his dissolving ‘happiness’, he directs the straw of his drink to his mouth, suckling on the scarce remaining drops inside the metal bottle.
When he’s alone once again, Daniel cards a hand through his once full head of thick curls, grimacing at the noticeable thinning of it. A mix of stress and lack of taking care of himself has led to this, all self inflicted. He smooths it back down, trying to get rid of the almost static look it had gained from the slightly fiddling.
As he’s making his way through the paddock, head down and inside of his cheek roughened by the scraping of teeth, he feels a hand against the small of his back. It belongs to the short Japanese driver he drives alongside, often now against recently. “Sorry mate,” The younger pilot gives him a curt smile, “I think you don’t deserve that,” He gives a sympathetic look which Daniel shrugs off, politely and half heartedly.
“Ah, it happens. Not every race can be a podium,” Daniel shakes his head, a million thoughts contrasting those very words swelling up inside his overworked mind. He doesn’t believe what he’s saying, and it doesn’t look like Yuki does either- meeting him with an expression of confusion, eyebrows strung tight together and lips slightly pursed.
“Not the race…” The Japanese man itches at the short black hair on the back of his neck. “About Liam,” He frowns, walking off as he leaves Daniel to unpuzzle his cryptic and vague words. Sure, Liam had filled in for Daniel after a collision with Oscar that had left him injured mid last year, but that was hardly relevant at a moment like this.
He reached the RB garage, heading inside to where his belongings remained from before the race. He checks his phone, messages from his mother, Heidi and Scotty sitting unread on his lock screen. The top notification however is from the F1 app- the names ‘Helmut Marko’, ‘Daniel Ricciardo’, and ‘Liam Lawson’ twist in between all the different ways to say replace.
Oh god.
Fuck fuck fuck.
He opens his phone, scrolling through the brief article. According to it, he has two races to show his potential and prove that he deserves the racing bulls seat until his contract will break and be given to the 21 year old driver from New Zealand. He has Japan and China to show that he deserves this, notoriously two tracks that aren’t easy for him as a driver, nor for the team. He’d won in China in 2018 by the skin on his teeth, barely making it through to the end. To be able to do that again, or even just get a mildly impressive result seemed like a far fetched dream.
He slides down against the wall, his knees tucking up to his chest as he reads through the article again. And again. And again. He reads it over and over until he’s sure he could repeat it from heart, then reads it again. Surely he’s reading it wrong- it had to be fake news. But if that’s true, what on earth did Yuki mean about the ‘Liam thing’? He swipes off the website, searching his name followed by Liam’s into his search bar and clicking on the first link that appears. Different wording, the same exact content. ‘Replaced if Ricciardo’s performance doesn’t improve,’.
His head drops into his hand, strangled and choked back tears spilling into his knuckles as his hand tenses into a fist. He sounds like an idiot, crying on the floor of a garage when he’s sure fans could likely hear him if they were close enough. He’s a disappointment once again, just like he’d been in 2021 at McLaren, just like he’d been at Renault, just like he’d been in his last year at Red Bull. He’s mastered the art of letting everyone around him down, and they’ve perfected not putting faith into him.
As salty tears spill down his tanned cheeks, an arm wraps around his torso, squeezing him into the other person as a head finds its way to settle into the junction of his neck and shoulder. “It’s okay, Daniel,” That all too familiar Dutch accent, the way the voice pronounces his name like ‘Dan-Yell’. “You did it once, you’ll come back,” Max’s breath is hot against where Daniel’s fireproof shirt is scratching into his skin, the all enclosing tight fabric squeezing him into physical numbness.
“I won’t,” Daniel shakes his head, embarrassed by the fact that someone almost 8 years younger than him is being the one to be mature and comforting. Far from the angsty teenage boy who’d stepped into that red bull at 17 almost a decade ago. He was a better driver than Daniel back then, and he still is now, also now a better person. “No one thinks I belong here,” He intentionally deepens his voice, painstakingly aware of how unintentionally vulnerable he’s being
“I believe you do, isn’t that enough?” That gets Daniel to look up from his wrist, meeting those ocean blue eyes he’s encountered too many times when Max has been in his very own position and Daniel’s been in his. He rubs his nose against the sleeve of his race suit that's otherwise been resting on the concrete floor next to him. “I think you’re a superior driver to me,” Max gives him a tight smile, not receiving once in response.
“We both know that’s not true,” Daniel looks back down at the floor in front of himself, his arms crossed over his knees. Max gingerly rests a hand over one of Daniels, one of his fingers prodding into the dorsal side of Daniel’s limp fist.
“You don’t know that,” He murmurs, both men now looking away from each other's eyes and focusing on where their hands are barely intertwined. “You’ve got years of experience over me, more teams and teammates. You’re funnier than me, and you’ve got that 'Daniel Ricciardo' smile.” He grins, finally getting one out of Daniel this time, a genuine one too.
“Pretty easy when you are Daniel Ricciardo,” He knows that’s not what Max means by it. Max rolls his eyes, nudging his elbow into the older man’s chest.
“I’ll always root for you Dan, you know that,” The promise is appreciated, but Daniel struggles to find comfort in it when Max is the only person who does. He no longer even finds the ability to believe in someone who will always lose.

Any new upcoming series with w/w?
Lol, I had a whole answer typed up and almost completed last night, I could only remember a few upcoming shows but added a bunch of ongoing and recent with descriptions and then the post editor hiccuped and removed most of it so I angrily went to sleep instead.
But maybe that was for the best, because this morning a video of upcoming f/f shows in April came out so now I can add a few more.
There's Dead Ringers, that show with Rachel Weisz playing twin gynecologists and since it's a genderbent adaptation of an existing movie we already know it's gonna be super messy. It would be pretty wild for Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies to not have some wlw and luckily it does, the trailer itself reveals a couple. Tiny Beautiful Things, with Kathryn Hahn and Sarah Pidgeon (Leah in The Wilds) playing her younger self, apparently Kathryn Hahn's character's daughter is queer. Slip is a kinda scifi, where a bored wife cheats on her husband and realizes every time she has sex with someone, she wakes up married to them. The show's about her trying to get back to her original life, and there are a series of different husbands, but also a few wives (also, the first "replacement" husband is played by Boorman's actor from Willow!). There are also the upcoming Thai dramas Be Mine, Reverse 4 You, and 23.5, as previously mentioned.
In terms of returning series coming back, there's the Disney cartoon The Owl House, getting its final ep. Single Drunk Female's second season is returning soon. It has a bi lead, and she did have a female love interest but it was pretty temporary compared to the will they/won't she has with the main character male love interest. Her Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor, also a very main character, is a lesbian, and she's married but her wife's actress is a regular on another show now so I dunno if she'll be back.
Welcome to Eden, a Spanish thriller about people trapped on an island with a cult, ended the first season on a major cliffhanger so it'll be exciting to see what happens now, though it feels like anyone could die so that's a bit nerve-wracking. It has a lot of different kinds of rep, f/f, m/m, trans, one of the gay guys is deaf too and it's a plot point that his boyfriend won't learn sign even though his friends have.
The Epix series From is a pretty well done horror series about people trapped in a town and who get hunted at night, it's more ominous and suspenseful than outright gory. It actually has three wlw, though one is mostly with one guy, the one who's engaged to a woman outside the town seems to be about to start a romance with another guy, and one is a teen who's crushing on the first woman, feels unrequited. I didn't know about any of them when I started, so they're a bonus, the show itself is rather compelling.
As for current shows, The Power (lol, get it, current) started last night on Prime, it's nice that after the misreading of Class of '07, this new show about girls does immediately have a wlw. Gap's already finished but it made such a splash, if you haven't watched, I'll mention it again. The other Thai drama, Show Me Love, is still airing. Fantasy Island is honestly kind of sweet, it feels like one of those '90s shows, episodic, bright colors and optimism, and great guest stars. One of the two leads, I'd say, or at least the second billed main, is queer.
We got our three firefighter shows, 9-1-1 with a solid (now) established relationship, Fire Country, a lesbian character but not much screentime, and of course Station 19, which is honestly winning me back in a huge way with their current storyline (if they land it).
Cop wlw update (why are there so many of them!): NCIS Hawai'i remains super cute, especially when Lucy is on, looks like Ayanna on Law & Order: Organized Crime got herself a new gf with a super hot voice, The Rookie: Feds still has Niecy Nash playing a super likable and bi lead. I couldn't stand the egregious copaganda in FBI: Most Wanted, and like, imagine how bad it'd have to be, when I can still watch all the rest of these shows, but Sheryll's still there, so. Sin Huellas (No Traces) has already finished but gets another mention for being as funny as it was, with a cute, hot couple at the center. Rabbit Hole's just started, but the initial antagonist/probable grudging ally's an FBI lady who within the first 10 minutes of the first ep dropped that she had a wife. Van der Valk has started its third season and though I'm gonna keep hoping Lucienne's INCREDIBLY hot ex from 2x03 returns, Lucienne, second billed, is plenty hot by herself. Ariana Guerra, who played the novitiate in Helstrom, has joined the second season of CSI: Vegas. Her character's bi and has a main character boyfriend but he seems like he'll most likely end up with a different character.
I'm not really going through these in any particular order, except combining the above two types, but let me just blow through the rest of the ongoing shows: the Canadian family comedy Run the Burbs has been quite sweet in how it's written the teen daughter, How I Met Your Father comes across as an old fashioned sitcom, except one of the characters is a lesbian. It's kind of fun in its familiarity and low stakes. I didn't expect to be as drawn into The Watchful Eye as I did, the trailer felt quite soapy and it was, at times, but all the nannies were great, and I ended up quite liking the f/f side couple. It's amazing what actual personalities can do. :o A Million Little Things is winding down its final season and Grace Park's character is engaged to Cameron Esposito's character so it feels pretty endgame at this point.
If you didn't watch or stopped watching Carnival Row because the main m/f relationship seemed so especially trite, you maaaay want to give it another look. I'm not nearly caught up with Bel-Air, but in the first season they wrote Ashley's sexuality really well, especially since she's so young. I'm sure you can't have missed my Perry Mason gifsets by now, but I can only reiterate what a great character Della Street is. One of the kids in Gotham Knights is bi (and her brother is trans!) but I'm not sure it's worth getting invested before cancellation. Unless the CW is only going to keep projects involving the Supernatural trio?
At this point, hoping everyone who's into wlw has at least tried Yellowjackets or is aware enough of it to know they don't want to try it. Las Pelotaris 1926 is a Spanish language historical drama about female athletes playing--well, the sport is basque pelota but if you need a reference point, it's like squash or racquetball. If you haven't yet caught up with RWBY, now would be an okay time. Lastly, I've still never watched any of Riverdale or even Choni clips, but its final season has just started and you know, I gotta respect the longevity of whatever they've been doing with them, however up and down they seem to have been, and perhaps this final season will be an up. From what I've seen on SM, they seem to get endgame soulmatey treatment more than any of the other ships and I can respect that.
Aside from the Thai dramas that might air after April and a few of the other shows that ended their seasons in March (or February in Gap's case), all of these have eps airing this month. After this year of cancellations, I think it's worth enjoying what we can, even as we acknowledge how much lead/main character rep and longevity we're losing. :o

Not sure if you saw, but what do you think about OG The Rookie moving to Tuesdays directly against the OG FBI?
Feds is now against FBI International.
I did see that.
I am torn. I don’t know enough about the economics behind a show or the strategies that come into play when a network moves a show from one day/slot to another. So here we go..
On one hand FEDS was just renewed and it’s dying on the vine after 6 episodes.
Roughly 75% of it’s views are coming AFTER it airs - on Hulu or replays what-have-you. So while yes, when you include the after plays in your numbers, FEDS is doing ok. 6 million viewers roughly? Not bad.
But for it to be worth ABC’s wallet’s while, those first run numbers need to go way up for ABC to make money on the show (advertisers revenue). And one surefire way to do that, is to have the OG show be the lead in. I definitely think there might be some run-off, from the Rookie into FEDS if they were shown 1-2.
That strategy clearly works - just look at FBI Tuesdays, CHICAGO Wednesdays, LAW & ORDER Thursdays or GREY’S ANATOMY Thursdays. I just don’t know if the OG Rookie show is solid enough to be that for ABC on Tuesdays. Plus, the Rookie was bumped from Tuesday to Sunday because THEIR ratings were getting killed by CBS.
Plus Dick Wolf is a master of serial tv. His shows have dynamic casts, intricate, believable story lines, well paced episodes.
The Rookie on the other hand is not that. We’ve all bitched and moaned about the un-evenness of the writing, about too many unfocused stories or too few interesting ones. Blatantly promoting one character over another. You don’t hear those kinds of complaints about SVU which is in it’s 24th season and Mariska Hagerty - who is related to Hollywood royalty- hogging screen time. Mainly, I think because SVU focuses on the stories they tell, and less on the actors. If John Nolan was a dynamic, fun, sexy and charismatic character who had insane chemistry with his love interest, I for one wouldn’t bemoan his character having more screen or stupid story lines than all the actors with those characteristics. He’s just not written that way and I love Jenna Dewan, but I am not a fan of Bailey or Jailey. But maybe that won’t matter if John is blown up in the next episode.
So while the move should bump up FEDS, I think it could be detrimental to the OG Rookie show. Last week I was reading about the Rookie being a cash cow on Sunday nights. Granted they get bumped often because award shows or sporting events run long, but the show is making ABC some serious cash. Plus they are killing it in the ratings - being #1 against an NCSI show? No small feat. And, and there was mention of an early renewal for Season 6 - which is fantastic. But neither of those things are guaranteed to continue with a move back to Tuesday. Especially, when going up against the #1 show of the night (OG FBI) which draws in 7 million viewers.
I am working on being optimistic. But a little part of me thinks this move is a bad idea and could be a slap in the face to ABC. Then I think of all the effort ABC is making in support of FEDS with sucky up front views, that maybe The Rookie will survive a hit to their ratings.
Does the change happen in January? With the mid season finale conclusion? If so, how are they going to top blowing up John Nolan for the mid-season story?
======
OH WAIT - HOT OFF THE PRESSES, looks like ABC just sold The Rookie’s Sunday night slot to a (hopefully national) news show for $$$$$.
So the move has nothing to do with The Rookie, per se. in that case moving to Tuesday night makes sense.
I just hope it’s not conservative Clear Channel Communications bullshit spewing forth instead. Good thing I don’t watch the news .

ABC Renewed The Rookie For Season 6
The Rookie Still 5x22 1
When The Rookie: Feds first premiered, it did so on a different night than The Rookie season 5. ABC realized they might have made a mistake by separating the two, so starting in January 2023, the network aired the series back-to-back on Tuesdays, undoubtedly hoping to boost the shows' ratings. The plan worked, and both Rookie series benefited from getting paired together on Tuesday nights. As a result, ABC renewed The Rookie for season 6 before the season 5 finale, making it one of the few network television shows to get a renewal before the writers' strike began in Hollywood.
With the spike in The Rookie: Feds numbers and The Rookie's renewal, it's almost a certainty that the spinoff will get to produce a second season. ABC evidently wants to build a universe around these shows, and that can't happen if the network cancels one of them. It's only a matter of time before ABC officially green-lights The Rookie: Feds season 2. The one thing that could potentially get in the way of that is the aforementioned writers' strike.
Perhaps this is a small sign that Antoinette doesn't understand Brendon quite as well as some other characters in the show, which could lead to a breakup in the near future. However, ABC has to renew The Rookie's spinoff series first.

Okay, Initial Thoughts on The Rookie Feds: while it's really fresh in my brain.
I really enjoyed the backdoor pilots but I really didn't know what to expect.
I am thoroughly surprised I loved it as much as I did. It has so many parallels to The Rookie and I think that's why I love it so far. It's different but it feels familiar.
Simone is exactly as good as I expected
Laura Stensen is so interesting she has layers I can see already. I think that she and Brandon are gonna be quite good partners
Brandon Acers surprised me. Sometimes new shows take the conventionally attractive guy and make him one-dimensional, but already he has a story. A former actor trying to find his way in a new profession then gets the acting gig he's always wanted. That is going to be a decision to make, and it will flesh out some of who his character is moving on.
Carter has Tim Bradford syndrome. AKA looks all tough on the outside and has a reputation to retain of being all hard but he has way more to him than he projects. I don't think he's going to go and rat on Garza's team...... at least I hope he doesn't.
I like Garza (OOOOH and his niece I love her I didn't catch her name but he has family working for him and I like that parallel between Jackson and his dad). This whole stent thing screams season finale-worthy drama. He's going to get sicker over the course of the season and that will be part of the cliffhanger I can already see it. All I can say for him right now is that he has Aaron Hotchner boss vibes and it's familiar so I like it.
This whole episode was going to make or break if I keep watching Live or if I just stay updated for crossovers......but I liked this episode enough to watch it live next week which means something so I think I'm hooked.
This is the first time in a LONG TIME that I am starting a show from episode 1 season 1 as a brand new show, and now that I think about it this might be the first one.
So now I'm excited to at least try and get this to break some of my ADHD brain blocks.

LaMelo’s Assistant | Part 1
Pairing: LaMelo Ball x assistant!!reader

Enjoy!!!! ☺️ I love this one.
Tumblr media
(Including this picture just because he’s so cute wtf))
•••
Today marks 6 months and 3 days and 1 hour and 10 minutes of being LaMelo Ball’s assistant. The only reason you knew the exact time was because you began counting down the time as you despised almost every minute of it. He drove you crazy at this point and you could not wait for the year to be up. After the NBA season was over so you planned to find a new job.
You took this job because the pay was too great not to say no to. When you learned it was LaMelo you would be assisting for, you were excited because you always thought he was cute. Once you got to know his sour personality and learned he just acted like a spoiled, conceded child, you became drier than the Sahara Desert.
The world of the NBA was exciting, nonetheless. So some days you knew it was worth it. You met so many amazing and talented people through the past 6 months. Other days felt like hell and you wished you were an assistant for a player nicer than LaMelo.
When you pulled up to LaMelo’s house this morning, you entered in like usual. You hyped up Dip as he jumped around, excited to see you. He loved when you came in almost every morning and at this point he recognized you and showed you love each time.
You let Dip outside to run around in the yard and get some fresh air for a a little bit before feeding him his first meal of the day.
You knocked on LaMelo’s bedroom door before bursting in.
“Get up, LaMelo,” you sighed, annoyance already obvious in your voice.
You stopped caring about coming into his room whenever you needed to at this point. You would just find him either in a deep sleep or up and scrolling through his phone procrastinating important tasks. You were the complete opposite and liked to get things done in a timely manner. So his carelessness irked you to the max.
“A good morning would be nice too,” he grumbled, rubbing the palms of his hands on his tired eyes before looking at you.
You were the only one who had the power to get him up out of bed. Even if that meant bribing him with breakfast or feeding his ego with fake compliments from you on how good of a basketball player he is, just because he’d ask you a million times to say any nice thing about him you could possibly think of and he knew it drove you mad.
“Good morning, LaMelo. Now get up,” you repeated.
“LaMelo, LaMelo LaMelo, you always nagging, calling me by my government name and shit,” he huffed and rolled his eyes.
“Well, LaMelo LaFrance Ball, it’s my job. You have 3 interviews today, so please get up,” you demanded.
“Wait-“ he mumbled, and you turned around to look at him while crossing your arms and tapping your foot.
“What?” You asked him.
“Say my full name again,” he mumbled and you could swear you saw a small grin creeping up on his lips. You looked at him in disgust.
“My God LaMelo, seriously?” You scuffed. “Please.”
“I’m up,” he huffed.
You walked out of his room, nearly slamming the door behind you.
•••
After he finally had gotten up and got dressed, there was barely enough time to drive the actual speed limit to make it to the interview. LaMelo always went nearly 15 over the limit anyway and you would always look at him wide-eyed as he didn’t seem to care if he’d get pulled over.
The two of you were almost late, you got out of the car quickly, slinging your backpack over your shoulder. LaMelo caught up to you casually. You hurried along to the building door.
“Hurry,” you rushed him.
“For what?” He asked, not looking up form his phone while he opened the door for the two of you. “They know I’m coming regardless.”
You sighed in defeat, hoping they would just be happy to see LaMelo Ball and forget about anything else.
You walked in along side with him, and there were a couple folks immediately smiling at LaMelo before paying any mind to you. He happily greeted them, chatting with them for a bit before the man finally acknowledged your presence.
“Is this your girlfriend?” The man asked and you looked down at the ground as you tried not to laugh.
“My assistant,” LaMelo quickly corrected him, putting an emphasis on the final “t” in the word.
“Oh.. okay,” the man said as he perked himself up before introducing himself to you. His tone seemed oddly more respectful now knowing you were his assistant instead. You cocked a brow when he shook your hand.
“y/n, y/l/n,” you stated, pursing your lips and nodding at him.
“They’ll be ready for him in about 5 minutes,” he reassured before walking off.
“Girlfriend,” LaMelo repeated with a laugh, shaking his head.
“mY aSsiStaNt,” you mocked in your best impression of his tone.
He crossed his arms, smirking at you.
“You sound mad about it,” he chuckled. “Is that not what you are to me?”
“You could have at least told him my name too,” you replied, feeling the heat run to your cheeks in frustration.
“My fault,” he clears his throat, straightening his posture. “y/n, my assistant,” he stated as an attempt to correct himself now, although there was nobody else in the waiting room but the two of you.
“Geez, LaMelo, I mean- that’s all I am to you? Thought we could at least be friends at this point, we’ve been working together for some time now,” you retorted, smirking at him getting all worked up in response to your words.
He threw his hands up at you and rolled his eyes feeling defeated.
“Umm,” he pretended to think deeply for a moment. “Yeah, that’s all you are.”
“Ouch,” you replied, trying to act fake hurt.
“Alright Melo, we’re ready for you,” the lady smiled and he walked into the room, shutting the door behind him. You shuffled around the papers in your hand, looking at his schedule for the rest of his day.
•••
After the first interview, you got to the second one where they filmed “LaMelo Ball goes Undercover on Twitter, TikTok and Instagram” for GQ Sports.
You got to watch from behind the cameras this time. Listening to all the answers he gave, he was funny when he wanted to be. You watched him as he stared at the laptop, scanning through each question as he answered them.
“What’s your goal, Melo?”
He thought for a moment before answering.
“Well… I kinda wanna ask him the question- I wish we was on FaceTime I’d ask him what’s his goal. ‘Cause I mean- I’m accomplishing my goals, you feel me? Check, check, check-“
I hate him, you thought before finding yourself fighting the urge to laugh.
“Nah I still got some more goals, like win a championship.”
•••
All that was left was the final interview for the day, and LaMelo was in a great mood. Meanwhile, you were feeling the opposite. It had felt like a long day and you were ready to go home.
When you stood in the room with him waiting, he of course had a basketball and was dribbling around with it now.
“Who gave you that?” You asked him, shaking your head at him as he started bouncing it around, circling you now.
“It’s for the interview, I guess,” he shrugged, continuing to dribble it and act as though he was guarding you before attempting a shot at the nonexistent hoop in the room.
“It’s annoying, and loud, stop moving so much,” you huffed, his hair was coming out of place and it bothered you. It happened almost everyday and every time you attempted to fix it, he somehow ended up messing it up and it never looked how you wanted it to.
“God damn, y/n, would it kill you to have a little fun once in a while? Sheesh,” he huffed, standing still with the ball tucked under his arm now as you worked your magic twisting his curl in between your finger.”
“Fun? Sorry, since I’m just your assistant…” you trailed off and you were focused on ruffling his curls with your hand now, as it somewhat helped, but they still looked a mess.
“… And you don’t take a damn thing serious, I’m just getting tired of you… and how you act.”
He pulled away from you now, lips slightly parted as his temper grew.
“Okay then, nobody is forcing you to be here,” he snapped quietly, towering over you and looking into your eyes.
“Melo, they’re ready for you in the next room.” The woman spoke from behind the two of you.
He looked at you one more time waiting for you to say something.
You shrugged and did not say anything, still feeling true to your words.
He huffed and rolled his eyes, walking off into the interview room and leaving you alone and by yourself.
To your surprise, his words hurt and suddenly you felt bad for what you said to him. Maybe you were a little uptight. Rightfully so, as all he did was give you a hard time. You contemplated giving him an apology. He was already in the other room and you would not even know where to begin if you did.
Your pride was too high, as you felt he was the one in the wrong here. You did so much for him and the least he could do was be nice to you from time to time. But here you were, standing in the room alone again.
While you waited for him to finish his interview, you found the cafeteria in the building and opened your laptop to check your emails.
You kept looking up at the small coffee shop they had and finally decided you would pick something up as a treat for yourself. You pulled out your wallet and walked over.
“Hello,” the barista greeted you. His face was so pretty he was definitely a cutie. You smiled back at him.
“Hey, how are you today?” You asked him.
“Good, and you?” He asked.
“Busy,” you nodded.
“I can’t say the same,” he smiled, referring to the line of zero people behind you, you giggled and ordered your coffee.
“Sooo, you like working here?” You asked, rocking back and fourth on your feet. You watched his arm muscles flex as he prepared the coffee through the expresso machine.
“It’s okay, pays the bills for now while I’m in school,” he shrugged.
“Oh that’s cool, what are you studying?” You asked him.
“Business… and what do you do, pretty lady?”
You smiled before responding. “I’m just a personal assistant.”
“I mean, that’s pretty cool though, do you like it?” He asked, pouring the milk into the cup before frothing it.
“Pays the bills,” you repeated his words with a shrug and he chuckled, putting the lid on your coffee cup.
“Felt that one,” he chuckled. “Here’s your coffee.”
“Thank you so much,” you grinned at him.
“No problem. Would you like to go out sometime? I-I can give you my number,” he smiled nervously at you.
“That would be-
“She has a boyfriend,” LaMelo stated, walking up from behind you, nodding his head at an attempt to sound convincing while swinging his arm around your shoulder before playfully fist bumping your arm a couple of times with his free hand.
“Where did you come from?” You asked, looking up at him.
“I’m done now, I actually was looking for you,” LaMelo replied with a sweet smile. You felt your cheeks grow warm at his words and seeing him smile was a rare form of bliss for you. You quickly snapped back to reality before you spoke.
“I’m actually very much single,” you nodded at the barista, chuckling nervously trying to save yourself, but the barista was already looking at the two of you with his eyebrows raised in confusion.
“Come on y/n we gotta go, don’t want to be late for the next interview,” he chuckled while nudging you, but you wouldn’t budge.
“We’re actually done for the day,” you smiled at him. “You ready for me to take you home?”
“Umm no, we were supposed to be having dinner after, remember? You were going to tell me all about your new boyfriend, duh,” he chuckled, “let’s go.”
You looked up at the barista who looked down, smiling, appearing uninterested now as the line began to build up.
“Nice meeting you,” is all you said to the barista as you forced a smile. He waved the two of you off before greeting his next customer.
You walked beside LaMelo in silence for a moment.
“LaMelo, you ruined my chances with that guy,” you huffed, attempting to push his arm but he caught your hand and held onto it for a moment before setting it down on your side.
“So? He looked boring. He work at a coffee shop,” he scuffed, starting to walk again.
“And? What if that’s my type?” You asked him. “Chill, laid-back, unproblematic?” You said while swinging your hands around, trying to get your point across as you walked alongside him.
He looked at you with a “yeah, right,” expression on his face.
“And he’s in college studying business- an educated man…” you continued.
He stopped in his tracks, turning to face you.
“You probably make more than him now… and I make more than he ever will.” He chuckled, shaking his head while adjusting his hoodie and chain. “You don’t need that.”
You cocked a brow at him, wondering what his next words could possibly be after a line like that.
“…And you don’t need a boyfriend,” he stated, walking away and picking up his pace now as you attempted to run after him as fast as you could in your heels.
“What??” You snapped. “Says who?”
“Says me. Because you’re my assistant. And because I said so.”
“That wasn’t in the contract,” you replied.
“It is now,” he pressed.
“Why are you so bothered by it?” You yelled at him now and he turned around looking just as flustered as you were.
“You don’t have time for one, you got a lot of shit to do. You spending all day typing on that little computer of yours.”
“I-“ You scuffed in disbelief. “What?! That’s not all I do? And-and who are you to tell me what I have time for?”
“You work for me!” He exclaimed, raising his voice now.
“You’re such a brat, seriously?” You yelled, crossing your arms.
“SeRiOusLy,” he repeated, mocking your tone in his best attempt at a girly voice and you rolled your eyes so far back they almost fell out of your head.
“You’re so annoying,” you muttered under your breath, making your way to his car now. You walked as fast as you could in the heels you were wearing but with his long legs he could basically keep the same pace as yours without having to put in half the effort you were putting in.
He stopped you again, looking down at you.
“What?” He asked you, and you shook your head as you had many angry thoughts racing in your mind.
“Say what you gotta say,” he pressed on.
You huffed.
“So I can’t have a life outside of you? Everything I do needs to revolve around you?”
He licked his lips, looking around as if what you said was the obvious truth. “Uh- yeah?”
“I’m done- this is too much,” you took a step but he grabbed your arm to stop you. You looked at him, crossing your arms.
“Did you mean what you said? About being tired of me?” He asked.
You sighed, refusing to make eye contact with him.
“Yes,” you replied flatly. His eyes fell to the ground before looking back up at you.
“Well then you don’t have to work for me anymore then, I can handle this on my own,” he replied and you looked at him sideways, trying not to laugh.
“No you can’t… like at all. Have you seen yourself? We barely even made it on time today, LaMelo. If you want to have a good reputation, you should start caring about those kinds of things.”
“Like what?”
“Being on time to things I schedule for you- since Lord knows you cannot do it yourself, being about your word when you agree to an interview with a company when they reach out to me about a deal you spoke to them about.”
He pulled his bottom lip between his teeth, irrational thoughts running through his brain before he spoke.
“Then I’ll find a new assistant,” he shrugged and you didn’t say anything in response.
“…Unless, you want to keep your job,” he continued in a rude tone now. His entitlement to you almost set you off but a smug grin grew on your face instead, after you took a deep breath.
“Well, as far as I know… you owe me dinner. I have to tell you all about my “new boyfriend” that I apparently can’t have so… we’re at least going to that. And you’re paying.” You retorted.
“No, that’s not happening,” he chuckled. “You’re going home. I’m over dealing with that attitude you’ve had all day.”
“Hmmm, look at you proving my point how you can’t keep your word or promises, tsk tsk,” you said while shaking your head at him.
He rolled his eyes, huffing.
“Fuck, fine,” he sighed and you grinned proudly. You both got into his car.
“And you say I’m the brat,” he mumbled.
“What was that?” You asked him sharply.
“I said you a brat, Ion give a fuck, I’ll say it with my chest,” he mumbled. “Unlike you.”
“I’ll say what I need to say,” you scuffed.
“Oh yeah, and what’s that?”
“You’re too scared to admit that you need me,” you replied.

The Rookie 3x13
Major Spoilers for tonight’s episode .. I decided to do a much more thorough recap as requested by @piratesbooty63fan
Once again we had no Chenford this episode .. I am majorly looking forward to Tim finding out Lucy is going on a long term UC though!! I just need the interaction!!
I am going to split this up into 3 parts:
1. Bradford/Nolan/Lopez
2. Jackson
3. Lucy/Nyla
1. Bradford and Nolan are working together they hear a shootout happening and pull up on a bunch of dead gang members - the drug war with La Fiera has started. Only one Wopez scene this episode as well and it is the scene they already released about Wesley saying they have too many guests and Angela being all 72% sure he’s her forever husband.
Tim and Nolan go to see Cesar (the son of the head of the LA gang, who ordered the kill on Diego) to warn him he is in over his head.
Lopez goes to see La Fiera, she tells Lopez that she’ll stop the war if she gives her the recording of the father making the deal to merge operations.
The Feds meet with Angela and want to know what LAPD knows about La Fiera because she is so high profile she’s a federal case and LAPD doesn’t need to be looped in. Angela is rightfully offended and says she will decide what to do with the recording that La Fiera wants, the Fed says he’s just going to go over her head to her boss and then cut LAPD out of the whole operation.
Bradford and Nolan are watching Cesar’s hideout while also trying to cut down Wopez’s wedding guest list (hilarious moments with John telling all the guests that they have to cut that Tim is really upset about having to cut people or that it’s his fault that there are too many people invited).
Lopez revisits La Fiera as the feds decided she’s actually an asset since giving her the tape presents an opportunity to upload spyware onto La Fiera’s computer but she expects this and uploads the file to a brand new computer. She tells Lopez that people always underestimate chicas like them. Lopez realizes that La Fiera put a hit on Cesar’s infant son, who is in the house that Bradford and Nolan are. They are rolled up on by 5 gun men but they are able to get all 5 in custody before backup arrives.
Back at the precinct Bradford grills Nolan about whether he’s serious about becoming a TO, apparently he is convinced.
The fed is waiting for Angela at the end of the night and insinuates that the plan didn’t work because they left it in the hands of a rookie, to which Angela responds that La Fiera is smarter than either of them is and the reason why she is going to be the one to catch La Fiera is because at least she can admit that.
Major badassery from Det. Lopez and I am HERE for it!
2. West meets with Nolan’s professor to talk about police reform.
Jackson gets called to be backup on a call and it turns out Stanton overturned his firing and is back on the job in Hollywood division.
West rightfully freaks out that Stanton is back on the job to Grey, and feels defeated that this guy is back on the job with basically no repercussions for leaving him to die.
Jackson is having flashbacks about being attacked while he watches Stanton and his coworkers have lunch.
West bring Professor Ryan in to help with the situation, she suggests going public, grey disagrees saying that it will just make him a martyr because the LAPD will double down on their decision to protect Stanton. Professor Ryan tells Grey that unless he can tell them another way to protect Jackson by the end of the day they’ll go public.
Jackson and Grey go to Doug’s new precinct and get the watch commander there to show the body cam footage from the day Jackson was attacked as part of “training” so that everyone knows what kind of cop Stanton is.
Suck it Stanton.
3. Grey wants to see Lucy and tells her she is going undercover if Nyla can get her ready in one day.
Nyla takes Lucy to a party with one of her old undercover contacts to test how she will be able to keep her cover in tact. Tamara ends up in the street with a guy who is harassing her, Lucy nearly blows her cover trying to handle the situation when the guy they meet notes that Lucy’s gun in PD issue, but Lucy is able to smooth it over.
Turns out Nyla was setting Lucy up by having Tamara there to distract her, Lucy adorably is still super overprotective out about the guy she was with whether they were actually fighting or not!😂
Nyla takes Lucy to get lessons in how to actually be a chemist cooking drugs, and the detective teaching her turns out to be the “contact” from the party that Lucy was trying to convince she was a chemist.
Nyla gets a call from the detective teaching Lucy how to cook and apparently she’s better than half of his guys already so Grey approved Lucy to go undercover.
Lucy gets kidnapped at the end of the night where it turns out “Coco” got caught and confessed she and Lucy and Nyla were all cops. The kidnapper tells Lucy she needs to tell him what the cops know or he will burn Nyla alive. Lucy talks her way out of it, and ... Spoiler:
it is revealed that this was Nyla’s final test to see how Lucy would react in a situation where she was kidnapped again and to give her one final out before she goes under. Lucy says she’s still in!!!!
Our girl going UC .. my nerves!!
Gah .. It is all too much to handle, I can’t believe next week is the season finale, how am I going to survive all summer .. fanfics it is!!

WAIT IM A NEW MAX STAN WHAT DID HIS FATHER DO WHY DON'T WE LIKE HIM OMG
welcome to the max fan club, where we put super max on repeat to get pumped, hate jos, eat hot chip and lie
okay this is a long ass list that I SWEAR I had put together before and it's in this post but I decided to repost it all here just to have it all in one place ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
okay, let's begin: (gonna put this under a read more, it’s gotten rather long)
REASONS TO NOT LIKE JOS VERSTAPPEN
from essentially sports:
Max Verstappen reminisced an interesting episode in his karting days. In 2012, when he was just 15 years old he was racing at an event in Sarno, near Naples, Italy.
“I should have won that race easily,”he told The Telegraph. “On the first lap, someone overtook me and I wanted to regain my position on the next lap. I tried to pass a very fast turn, he didn’t see me and we hit. ”
“My dad worked very hard that weekend and I threw it all away. He was very angry and didn’t talk to me. On the way home, about five miles away, he said something to me and we ended up arguing.”
Max Verstappen went on to say that Jos stopped at a gas station and kicked him out of the van. He said that he was supposed to go home alone, and left the 15-year old alone. Max then called his mother to pick him up and Jos and he were not on speaking terms for a week.
and this one from the telegraph:
At the karting world cup in Sarno, southern Italy, Verstappen Jnr, showed the lightning speed which has made him the youngest man ever to win a seat in Formula One, with Toro Rosso next season. He qualified fastest and comfortably won the pre-final by a few seconds. In the final itself, the red mist descended and Verstappen blew it. Having lost the lead from pole position, on lap two he attempted a kamikaze manoeuvre. The resulting collision broke his painstakingly assembled kart, sending Verstappen out of the race.
In such circumstances, most fathers might offer their teary son a consolatory hug, shoulder pat, or even a few words of encouragement. Not Jos. “I was so upset with him,” Verstappen says over coffee. “I walked away out of the park, and went to the van and started packing the tent down. He was crying like a baby. He was really disappointed. He said: ‘Daddy, we have to go and pick up the chassis because it’s the last race of the day.’ I replied: ‘No, I’m not going. If you want your chassis, you have to go and get it yourself.’
“He looked at me and knew I was angry. He got somebody else to help him put it in the van. Then we left the circuit, and he tried to start speaking to me. I didn’t say a word to him. I said: ‘Don’t speak to me. I’m really fed up with it and disappointed with the way you were racing. Please, don’t speak.’  ”
For most parents, a few hours of the silent treatment suffice to teach their child a lesson. Jos, furious after investing weeks preparing the kart only for Max to make what he regarded as a rookie’s error, took it to extremes. “I didn’t speak to him for seven days,” he says. “I ignored him. I was really p‑‑‑‑‑. I really wanted to teach him a point that it should hurt him. I wanted to show him that. He was also sick from what happened. And after a week, I started talking to him again.”
a concise timeline from this post by @formulatrash
1998 (Max is 1) : Jos and his father (Max’s grandfather) are convicted of assault by battery at a karting track, both given five-year suspended sentences after reaching a financial settlement with the victim. Jos specifically is detailed as having fractured the victim’s skull.
2008 (Max is 11) : Jos appears in court charged with assaulting his estranged wife (Max’s mother) - is cleared of physical assault but sentenced for verbal and written threats and breaking a restraining order against him
2011 (Max is 14 and competing in cars) : Jos faces allegations of assault against his then-girlfriend (not Max’s mother by this point)
2012 (Max is 15 and competing in cars) : Jos is arrested for attempted murder after he allegedly tried to use a car as a weapon to run over his ex-girlfriend, who subsequently became his wife. She dropped the charges.
2016 (Max is 19 and a Red Bull F1 driver) : Reports that Jos has been arrested for battering his own father, violating a restraining order that his father had had placed on him.
max said in this video that his father "tried to stab a mechanic with a fork"
he has also said that there's nothing in F1 that can put more pressure on him than his father already has. (I can't find the source on this one so please DM me if you know!)
update #1: Turkish GP 2020
Max said this when referring to turn 8 in Instabul Park:
Tumblr media
hope this is enough to help you, anon!❤️
update #2: in an interview with David Coulthard, apparently Jos would hit Max on the helmet quite hard while he was in karts, with a lot of bystanders being concerned over what he described as "tough love".
yeah that's all the dirt I have on Jos Verstappen at the moment. will update if new stuff is made public.

BTS TV and Web Series: Where to Begin Watching
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
If you’re anything like the rest of the planet, then you’ve fallen hard for BTS. And, like any ARMY who hasn’t been with the band since the early days, you have a lot of content to catch up on. It’s an awesome task—and a potentially overwhelming one. While much of BTS’ content is, of course, music videos and performances, the Korean band has also produced a plethora of additional content in the form of web series and TV shows.
While BTS has appeared on dozens if not hundreds of TV shows both in Korea and abroad since their debut eight years ago, we’re solely focusing on the BTS-centric series rather than the ongoing shows in which BTS has appeared as featured guests. Whether you’re a new ARMY looking to learn more about the K-pop band or simply can’t get “Butter” and/or “Permission to Dance” out of your head and are curious about the seven members behind the summer hits, check out one of the following series to learn more about Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.
Rookie King (2013)
How many episodes: 8 Where to watch: Viki
BTS debuted in 2013, and Rookie King was their first proper series. The variety show format is super popular in Korea, and many of BTS’ series use it. Rookie King is a variety show that features the members attempting different Korean TV program formats. In the show, BTS takes on different roles, including news anchors, bowlers, and basketball players. Early variety show BTS is truly a place where anything can happen. Rookie King would also give us our first proper example of BTS taking on cooking challenges, which continues to be a running (and hilarious) theme in BTS’ variety show presence today.
American Hustle Life (2014)
How many episodes: 8
This BTS reality show that sees the members traveling to L.A. for two weeks to learn from hip-hop tutors like Coolio and Warren G, can be tough to watch, as the series is nowhere near prepared to engage with K-pop’s history and present of Black American cultural appropriation. But discomfort is not always a bad thing, and American Hustle Life can be a good jumping off point for non-Black BTS fans in particular to engage with the difficult topic of cultural appropriation in K-pop ourselves. I recommend watching this in conjunction with analysis from Black BTS/K-pop critics, such as Stitch of Stitch’s Media Mix, who has written extensively not only about BTS, but about cultural appropriation in the age of K-pop.
GO! BTS (2014)
How many episodes: 1
It’s a bit of a stretch to call this one a series, as there is only one episode, but if you’re looking for more content from BTS’ early years, then Go! BTS is a good option. The 45-minute episode follows BTS on their trip to L.A. for KCON 2014. In addition to including some performance footage, the special gives us some of that variety program energy by sending the members on three missions around Laguna Beach.
BTS Gayo (2015-2017)
How many episodes: 15 Where to watch: VLive
BTS Gayo is another BTS variety show, in which the members play games that are specifically related to K-pop. For example, in the first episode, they have to guess iconic K-pop girl group songs based solely on dance clues from other members. BTS hasn’t released an episode of Gayo in a while, probably because the wider umbrella of Run BTS (see the next entry on the list) covers the sorts of K-pop-centric challenges BTS Gayo centers. Basically, Run BTS swallowed BTS Gayo.
Run BTS! (2015-today)
How many episodes: 143 (and counting) Where to watch: VLive
The ultimate BTS variety show, Run BTS has been, um, running since 2015. The show features the members competing in a variety of games, from zombie escape the room challenges to foot volleyball to your classic game of mafia. If they win, they get a reward. If they lose, they get a punishment. Variety show games like this are only as effective as the degree to which the competitors take them seriously, and let me tell you: BTS is all in. These global pop stars may be millionaires, but they will throw down for a coupon like their lives depend on it. Early episodes of Run BTS include the members visiting many an amusement park, while later episodes have gotten both more contained and creative in the challenges. Rest assured, there is something here for everyone—just beware the spies and plot twists.
Bon Voyage (2016-today)
How many episodes: 32 episodes, across 4 seasons Where to watch: VLive (Seasons 1-3), Weverse* (Season 4)
Bon Voyage is a travel reality show that follows BTS on various trips around the world, including northern Europe in Season 1, Hawaii in Season 2, Malta in Season 3, and New Zealand in Season 4. It’s interesting to see the members out and about in the world, having fun together and on a relative break. (This is still work, but they are not actively promoting or touring.) Over the course of Bon Voyage‘s four seasons, you will see many a camper van adventure; many a games of rock, paper, scissors; and realize just how central Yoon-gi is to keeping these members fed when they are left on their own. Especially in a time when travel has been largely impossible, bopping around the world with BTS can be a nice escape.
*For Weverse content, purchase via the “media” section in the Weverse Shop app, then watch via Weverse via the app or online
Burn the Stage (2018)
How many episodes: 8 Where to watch: YouTube Premium
Burn the Stage is an eight-part series that tells the story of BTS’ massive 300-day The Wings Tour, which took up most of 2017 for the members. Including interviews and show footage, Burn the Stage follows a pretty standard concert film format, giving insight into BTS’ first major world tour. The series would later be turned into a movie, also called Burn the Stage, which was released later in 2018.
Bring the Soul (2019)
How many episodes: 6 Where to watch: Weverse
Similar to Burn the Stage, Bring the Soul is another glimpse into what BTS’ tour life is like. This six-part series follows the seven members of BTS during the Love Yourself World Tour, through the end of the tour’s third, European leg, which concluded in October 2019. It was also released in a more condensed movie format in Bring the Soul: The Movie.
BT21 (2019-today)
How many episodes: 17 main story shorts, plus additional mini-stories Where to watch: YouTube
If you’re looking for some animated BTS content, check out the universe of BT21, a collaboration between Line Friends and BTS that you can see chronicled here. The members helped create the concepts for the BT21 characters, who are all adorable. From there, the animators began telling the story of Prince Tata, who hails from Planet BT, as he dreams about spreading love across the galaxy. Tata and guardian robot Van travel to Earth to begin the mission, where they meet Koya, RJ, Shooky, Mang, Chimmy, and Cooky, who band together with the ambition to become the most influential pop culture sensation in the galaxy. You can check out the members’ reaction to the initial storyline of shorts here.
Break the Silence (2020)
How many episodes: 7 Where to watch: Weverse
You didn’t think BTS was going to leave you hanging on the final leg of their Love Yourself World Tour, did you? The Break the Silence docu-series picks up where Bring the Soul leaves off, bringing fans on the final, Asian leg of the Love Yourself World Tour and into the Love Yourself: Speak Yourself extension of the tour, which extended the tour through October 2019. As you may have guessed, there is also a movie format version of Break the Silence.
In the Soop (2020)
How many episodes: 8 Where to watch: Weverse
BTS has given us many gifts during the COVID-19 pandemic, but In the Soop may be the greatest. The series follows the seven members as they take a break from their work schedules to pursue hobbies, hang out, and watch Jin kill fish. Unlike BTS’ variety series, In the Soop has a much looser structure, allowing the members to relax a bit more. Each member made a list of activities they would like to try out while in the titular “soop” (“forest,” in Korean), but there is no reward or punishment for completing or not. Instead, the members can choose to spend their time as they wish, whether that be building Lego or racing remote control boats. In the Soop is honestly the gift that keeps on giving, and ARMY is crossing our fingers for a second season. (If you like In the Soop, don’t forget to check out the eight, shorter behind-the-scenes episodes, also available to watch via Weverse.)
What is your favorite BTS series? Let us know in the comments below.

Season 2 Awards
We’ve finished Season 2! Like last time, I thought it’d be fun to make a bracket of my favorite and least favorite moments, once again relying on Way Down in the Hole for the categories. So, without further ado, the best and worst of Season 2.
Best and Worst Boss: I’m going to give both of these to Frank Sobotka. There’s nobody more invested in the well-being of his union -- from bribing politicians to ratting on the Greeks to keep his men away from criminal charges, Sobotka was willing to do anything to protect IBS Local 1514. Over the course of the season, we see him be incredibly generous with union workers, gifting them cash when they’re in a hard spot, and drinking with them at the local bar. But Frank is also the reason that police attention falls on the union; while you can’t blame him for Stan Valchek’s personal grudge, he’s absolutely blameworthy for getting in deep with a criminal organization. Ultimately, Frank was too short-sighted to be a good boss, and his insistence in maintaining the status quo rather than looking for ways to adapt was ultimately his downfall. Of course, his downfall also cost the union its freedom -- in the final montage of S2E12, we see that IBS has been taken over by the feds.
Best Couple: My favorite couple is one that never happened -- Frank and Beadie (making my case: 1, 2). I’m a sucker for yearning looks, and there were definitely some looks traded between the union boss and local cop. They seemed to genuinely care about each other, beyond a friendly smile at the port or in the bar. One of the most memorable scenes of Season 2 is when Beadie confronts Frank and asks him to talk to the cops. Frank confesses to her that he thought he was doing the wrong thing for the right reasons, and Beadie says, “There are different types of wrong.” I feel like they could’ve been a couple that mutually supported each other -- Frank the stable union presence for Beadie’s kids, giving Beadie more flexibility to find the career she’s looking for. Alas, the Greeks ruined that one for me.
Worst Couple: Nick Sobotka and Aimee. Nick just isn’t ready to settle down. He isn’t making enough money to support a family, and while he loves his child he isn’t enough of a presence to be there for her. Not to mention, he abandons Aimee in his parents’ home and spends the night with Prissy rather than seeking comfort from his significant other. Aimee deserves better than this man who brought trouble onto himself, and consequently made her life more difficult (the three of them got dragged into Witness Protection thanks to Nick’s Greek connections). I say time to move on.
Favorite Quote: Any of the nicknames for Jimmy while he was riding the boat. Sailor Boy, Little Man in the Canoe, Captain Chesapeake, McNulty the Sailor Man, and my favorite, Prince of Tides.
File This Away for Later Moment: Stringer’s encounter with Brother Mouzone. The way that Brother Mouzone sees straight through Stringer -- remember that. Mouzone will be making an appearance in Season 3.
Rookie of the Year: Ziggy. On Way Down in the Hole, Van Lathan pointed out that Ziggy is a character who always provokes an emotional reaction; love him or hate him, you feel some kind of way when he shows up. Personally, I found my growing tolerance for Ziggy growing over the course of the season, and on a rewatch I was more attentive to the way he’s treated by Nick and Frank. It’s hard not to feel sorry for the class clown who just wanted some respect, and couldn’t get it, stuck in a job where he couldn’t succeed and ignored by his own father. Over a single season, Ziggy evolves from union jester to booster extraordinaire to convicted murderer, all because he couldn’t find his spot. Hopefully he’ll have time to change in prison, and he’ll be able to start over once he gets out.
Six M(e)n of the Year: Jemele Hill and Van Lathan picked Herc and Carver, and I have to agree. No one was a more consistent B plot than Police Brutality 1 & 2 (Jemele’s nickname for them): Herc’s pestering of Kima to join the team, and then getting Daniels to bring Carver on board, too; the bug-tennis ball-Fuzzy Dunlop subplot; those brief seconds where the two of them struggled to bring that air conditioner up the stairs; constant car surveillance and that amazing scene with the french fries (”You think I’m fat?”). I’ve always liked Herc and Carver because I think they’re funny, but I felt guiltier about it last season because they were unquestionably the cops most likely to beat someone up. This season, they’re the perfect combination of scheming yet inept and well-positioned as comic relief.
Favorite Scene: It’s either D’Angelo’s death in S2E6 or the scene in S2E11 where Beadie asks Frank to talk to the cops. First, D’Angelo’s death is dramatic because it’s so sudden -- everything is going well, and then thirty seconds later D’Angelo’s on the floor with a belt around his neck. The first time I watched S2E6 I didn’t actually believe that D’Angelo had died -- it wasn’t until the next episode that I understood he’d actually been killed off. Not to mention, D’Angelo was season 1′s moral compass, so losing him was pretty upsetting. Second, the scene between Beadie and Frank -- well, I’m just a romantic for them. Whether they should’ve been together or just good friends, you can’t deny how well Amy Ryan and Chris Bauer act emotional. I felt Frank’s regret for everything he’d done, even more so because I knew what was going to happen to him. And, yes, I think this scene is proof why Beadie and Frank would’ve been a good couple. While Beadie was there for a reason, she was the only person who was able to comfort Frank and understand why he made the choices that he did, and Beadie was the only person Frank was able to open up to. Maybe in an alternate universe, Frank comes clean, helps the cops nab the Greeks before they sail off on fraudulent passports, and Beadie drives him home, where with Ziggy in jail he decides he’s going to start anew. The two of them load his truck with suitcases, pick up Beadie’s kids, and drive off into the sunset.
Best Performance: Nick Sobotka. It’s hard to make a thieving, racist dockworker sympathetic, but Pablo Schreiber did it. Jemele Hill points out that Nick is the most openly racist of the dockworkers; despite working with and seemingly befriending black fellow dockworkers, Nick consistently uses the n-word, and in S2E7 gives an infamous speech to Frog, reminding them that they’re both white. Yet we also see Nick struggling to survive: living in his parents’ basement, giving money to his girlfriend when he can, and being affectionate with his daughter. He turns to crime because he can’t make enough money at his straight job. Nick Sobotkas character is a masterful ruse to get white audience members, who may have resisted empathizing with the Barksdales, to see drug sellers as human. I also have to shout out Pablo Schreiber for being (a) very cute, (b) 6′5″, and (c) apparently very talented at playing believably nasty characters -- he won an Emmy for Orange is the New Black as George “Pornstache” Mendez, an abusive corrections officer who exacts sex from inmates in return for drugs he smuggles in. I guess post-Emmy he’s in demand, most recently playing Mad Sweeney on American Gods.
Stringer Bell Fuckboy Award: There are two options, both of them defensible. It’s either the scene where Stringer seduces Donette, or when he’s over there later playing with D’Angelo’s kid while Donette makes him dinner. Personally, I’d pick the latter. Not only are Stringer and Donette holding hands in front of D’Angelo’s son, but Stringer actually picks up the (world’s cutest) baby and bad-mouths D’Angelo to him! Classic fuckboy.
Favorite Trivia: Apparently, Lance Reddick (Cedric Daniels) hated Dominic West (Jimmy McNulty). In real life, Reddick and West are somewhat like their TV personalities -- Reddick is quieter and more reserved while West is very chatty and extraverted. In All the Pieces Matter, Reddick admitted that he found West rather annoying and avoided him outside of work.
MVP: Beadie Russell. Instrumental to the plot, growing exponentially from day-jobber in S2E1 to certified good police in S2E12, and maybe the kindest character on the show. A single mother supporting herself and two kids, it’s hard not to root for Beadie, who became a cop after realizing she couldn’t feed her family on a toll-taker’s salary. She also gets a disproportionate number of the season’s most quotable lines, from “What they need is a union” to “World just keeps turning, right?,” probably because she represents the viewer’s perspective (taking over from gone-too-soon D’Angelo Barksdale). While her weakness for McNulty will get her in trouble, I’m glad we’ll see the return of Beadie in Seasons 4 and 5.
That was fun y’all. Here’s my bracket for Season 1.

Is Eric Winter's Tim Being Written Off The Rookie?
Tumblr media
In particular Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) became one of the fan favorites as early as Season 1. And his relationship with Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) turned into an important part of the show.
Tim and Lucy's story is that of a gradually growing romance, hindered by their positions – Tim had been Lucy's training officer at first, and then otherwise above her in the chain of command, so when they've finally admitted their feeling and started dating, they took a serious risk.
However, there are reasons to suspect that Eric Winter might be exiting The Rookie by the end of Season 5.
Tim first tried to solve the problem by taking a desk job, but that made him clearly unhappy. Then Lucy schemed to get him a better position, and when a vacancy opened in in the Metro Division (a unit specializing in counterterrorism, major crimes, security details, etc) of the LAPD, he was quick to accept.
However, some fans started wondering whether that change in scenery might make Eric Winter leave the show. There was even a speculation of another possible future spin-off, in the vein of The Rookie: Feds, which is currently airing, The Rookie: Metro, with Eric Winter taking the lead role there, instead of continuing on the main show.
However, such fears appear to be baseless. Or, at the very least, they are not grounded in any official information from ABC. And integrating an officer from Metro into storylines involving the Mid-Wilshire Division, where most of the other main characters serve, is not exactly difficult.
If a firefighter and a lawyer can be among the recurring characters in later seasons, then certainly a policeman from another division can too.
The more likely danger is The Rookie not getting renewed for Season 6. The show underwent a substantial decline in ratings and viewership during Seasons 3 and 4. But currently the numbers for Season 5 are on the upward trend, so unless its concluding episodes bungle everything, ABC is not likely to cancel The Rookie.
