So this is really one of the most important reasons for my enormous crush on Roger Allam:-

He’s a big, imposing-looking man with (when he uses it that way) a big, imposing-sounding voice. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard him play a role without bringing an astonishing amount of vulnerability to it, and as many layers as the character will take (including far more than many other even really good actors would find).

He has made me care about Duke Vincentio in Measure for Measure, Prospero in The Tempest, and Falstaff in the Henry IVs, all of whom (despite - arguably - not being actual villains) I usually cordially dislike. And he does so without his acting excusing any of their actions: his Duke still fucks up massively towards Isabella and does some seriously dodgy things; his Prospero is still extremely problematic in his behaviour towards, well, everybody frankly; his Falstaff is still cruel and venal. But my Gods, he shows how much pain they’re each in, how frightened each of them is. His Duke has severe depression and is flailing about much of the time and you get the impression he will do his best after the end to make it up to Isabella, that he gets that he’s messed up; his Prospero is terrified of losing both Miranda and Ariel and is desperately traumatised by all he’s gone through; his Falstaff plays a mighty good game and fools most people but underneath he’s a scared old man who knows his own failings with a horrible precision and whose love for Hal is like putting his heart in the mouth of a lion(’s whelp).

He made me care about Rogozhin in The Idiot so much (again, without in any way detracting from how horrifying the man is) that he was part of what I was crying about when I got to the end of that radio adaptation.

I already cared about Bosola in The Duchess of Malfi (again, despite everything he does - but that’s what Webster asks of us and he writes it beautifully) and then... bloody hell. Absolutely broke my heart.

Do I even need to bring up his Javert? ;-)

And as for when he plays characters who are broken and who don’t do awful things (Valjean in the radio Les Miserables) especially... Holy Fucking Shit.

So no wonder that I have that terrible need to hug both Douglas Richardson and Fred Thursday (and goodness me but when Fred messes up he really messes up, and Douglas is... Douglas). Not to mention Antoine Verlaque, though there I’m mostly just awfully glad he has Marine to hug him. :D

What I always want from actors is, well, those layers. That depth. That compassion. That honesty. That nuance. That thoughtfulness. Sheila Hancock once described Roger as a vulnerable actor and I’m very vindicated by this; he just doesn’t look like a vulnerable actor but then that’s a huge part of what makes those performances so devastating.

And then when you bring in the incredible vocal abilities (including his ability to sound like he’s talking quietly while filling a large theatre unmiced <3), and the extreme versatility... yeah. No wonder I’m a fanboy. :D

Oh lord, is he going to make me care about Azazel in The Sandman series 2?! I mean if anyone could make me do so... [fear]

A call for attention!!

Guys, the numbers for "Dead Boy Detectives" are bad, which puts us in the threat of cancelation.

This is a show with primarily non-white cast, of various identities with explicitly queer storylines. No queerbaiting or "maybe we can hc them as x or y". Real stories.

It's a fun show, too, to say the least. I know it is discouraging to keep talking about numbers, but the reality is that we need them.

Binge the show, tell your friends, tell your family, play it in the background as noise, let's rack up those numbers.

We and every queer kid after us deserve to see stories about them told in the most fantastical, spooky setting.

It would also be a wonderful plus to see Desire and the Cat King together, would it not?

You don't understand how Dream and Hob's friendship in the comic is important to me. They're both men in the 90s. They can't tell each other "omg bestie, ily sm" because it's not how it works for them. Dream is the KING and Hob is a man literally from the Middle Ages, their worldviews don't work like that. When Hob dared to call Dream his friend, Dream was offended. He just couldn't accept how HE can have basic needs like a nice drink once in a while. But after some (a lot) time he realised he also enjoys Hob's company and then met him in 1989 and allowed himself, the ruler of dreams and nightmares, to have a friend. (from now on, comic spoilers) And when he has to go to hell, when there's a chance he won't come back, he meets some people and then he goes to Hob, so he won't be worried he missed their appointment. So he won't be worried about him. Also when he knows he will die soon, he meets with Hob. He meets with him for their last drink. Hob doesn't even know what's going on, he's just suprised and relieved to see his oldest friend. A friend whose name he doesn't even know. A friend who is the only certain thing in his life. They talk like they always do. Because they do know each other for ages. And when Hob says he wants a guy who killed his gf to feel guilty for it, Dream makes the guy feel guilty. He can manipulate peoples thoughts, make them think what he wants them to think, and uses this power for Hob, even if his friend won't know about it. Dream is not a type of person who does things for free. But he did it for his friend. And when Dream walks out, Hob runs after him, telling him he can sense something is wrong and that he is worried about him. And then Dream smiles. He smiles because that situation, their last meeting, is the first time they both showed how much they care about each other.

Sandman s2, confirmed news!

I see a lot of speculation on the topic, so as someone who has closely followed and confirmed information, I am comprising this thread of confirmed Season 2 leaks that I will update regularly.

This is inspired by @orionsangel86 rant, and I have no real following here for people to listen to me, but I hope this will allow the fandom to discover me as a Sandman creator.

All information has been thoroughly confirmed, and some of it was found by me. I will try to keep the chronological order:

1. Ruairi O'Connor is our Orpheus

Well...I don't have to explain, the man's face is on there, plus Melissanthi Mahut follows him on Instagram

2. Esme Creed Miles is our Delirium

Back in August, we suspected Esme Creed Miles had joined the cast of the Sandman as our Delirium when Lourdes Faberes posted this picture with this caption:

Soon after the entire cast followed Esme and since then have interacted and been in the same place multiple times including last week when Donna and Mason were filming:

3. Barry Soloane is our Destruction

His wife spoiled it, and he has it on top of his acting credits. He is followed by all of the Endless and Neil on Instagram, and they interact regularly.

4. Midsummer Night's dream is filmed/being filmed

As you can see from this leaked call sheet from the same day, the scenes included elves and fairies + the caravan + the people who asked what was filmed on their walk basically confirms Midsummer Night's Dream

5. Wanda and Ruby's characters are being merged and are being played by Indya Moore

We have no further information on the changing of storylines.

+ a lot of minor roles have been confirmed as well but those are of no vitality.

6. Names of six of the supposed 12 episodes have leaked

!!The next ones are speculations since we cannot confirm them but it is quite likely as timelines fit:

1. Ferdinand Kingsley has filmed the Season of Mists dream sequence

The only clue we have of that, is that he maintained a hairstyle similar to Hob's with a longer beard for a while and has recently chopped it all off.

2. Filming of "Season of Mists" in Brighton Pavillion on the 20th of February

According to eyewitnesses, the production was humongous, the extras and actors were dressed in gothic/mythical/monster/horror attire, which excludes the location from being Destiny's garden or have anything to do with the Family dinner, leaving Season of Mists as the most plausible conclusion

3. On-site location filming on Castle Arce in the week of March 15th

The Castle Arce area has lots of mazey parts, dare I say Destiny's garden, but that is pure speculation. (I just found these so I have not had the time to decipher them properly).

3. Destiny will be POC

I sincerely hope that to be true. The only semi-clue we have that suggests this might be true is the picture from Lourdes (above with Esme) and the fact that Adrian Lester is in the picture, but he is not part of the cast or seen in leaks anywhere. We hope for news soon.

ok ok but [spoilers ahead!] all the implications that Edwin and Charles are both each other's light in the dark. The lantern Edwin brings over to warm up a badly hypothermic Charles, the way its golden glow and Edwin himself kept the sick boy company, making that cursed attic room less gloomy. The flash of the explosive Charles throws at the baby doll-head demon that finally allows Edwin to run and escape with him from Hell. The confession scene, with that golden light burning persistently around the two of them even in the bleak stairways of Hell, reinforcing how they will always be there for each other no matter what. guys, they're each other's hope. guys.
