Want to get better at posting my sketchy work (Which is like 70% of my work lol) So here's some doodles of mostly getting my zelda designs into better working order! Zelda the first is my favourite so far my absolute beloved~

A rose in the thorns

Remember when Madja told us that the Cauldron made its mark deepest in the mind? And then Sarah showed us this:

The gates to her mind … Solid iron, covered in vines of flowers—or it would have been. The blossoms were all sealed, sleeping buds tucked into tangles of leaves and thorns. (acowar)

Her flowers are described as sleeping buds that are tucked into tangles of leaves and thorns. Feyre describes her mental gates this way just before Elain uses powers that might be connected to mystics. And then, as others have pointed out, Sarah shows us this in the next book:

But Mor scented nothing, saw nothing. The tendril of power she speared toward the woods revealed only the usual birds and small beasts. A hart drinking from a hole in an iced-over stream. Nothing, except - There, between a snarl of thorns. A patch of darkness. It did not move, did not seem to do anything but linger. And watch. Familiar and yet foreign. Something in her power whispered not to touch it, not to go near it. Even from this distance. Mor obeyed. But she still watched that darkness in the thorns, as if a shadow had fallen asleep among them. Not like Azriel's shadows, twining and whispering. Something different. Something that stared back, watching her in turn. (Mor's pov, acofas)

A shadowy watcher in the woods, as if it had fallen asleep in the thorns. That imagery is eerily similar to Elain's sleeping buds. As a seer, she can find and watch others from afar.

"This time, you sent the trembling fawn to find me. I did not expect to see those doe-eyes peering at me from across the world." (Suriel, acowar)

Mystics seek a higher consciousness, to become one with the divine. In tog, beings of a higher consciousness are what characters referred to as gods. And what did we learn about them from the memory in the witch mirror?

They had no forms. They were only figments of light and shadow, wind and rain, song and memory. Each individual, and yet a part of one majority, one consciousness. (eos)

If mystics become one with the divine, then this might mean they become part of that greater consciousness, travel like figments of light and shadow. This could explain why Elain is paired with the half-wraith twins and it’s possible her mystical travel might mimic how Feyre moves when she is connected to the Cauldron through a living bond.

I could not remove my hand. Could not pry my fingers away. I was being shredded apart, slowly, thoroughly. I flung my magic out, desperate for any chain to this world to save me, keep me from being devoured by the eternal, awful thing that now tried to drag me into its embrace. Fire and water and light and wind and ice and night. All rallied. All failed me. Some tether slipped, and my mind slid closer to the Cauldron’s outstretched arms. I felt it touch me. And then I was half gone. Half there, standing silently next to the Cauldron, hand glued to the black rim. Half … elsewhere. Flying through the world. Searching. The Cauldron now hunted for that power that had come so close…And now taunted it. [...] Time seemed to slow and warp. The dark power of the king speared toward us. Toward that clearing where I was neither seen nor heard, where I was nothing but a scrap of soul carried on a black wind. (acowar)

Feyre’s connection to her form is shredded and her tether to the world slips as she is embraced by the Cauldron. She travels with it across the battlefield, a scrap of soul on a black wind, and is forced to watch tragic events unfold. Trapped by the Cauldron, Feyre was not able to step out of its black wind shadow to help, but Elain was.

For a moment, I thought the Cauldron had answered my pleas. But as a black blade broke through the king’s throat, spraying blood, I realized someone else had. Elain stepped out of a shadow behind him, and rammed Truth-Teller to the hilt through the back of the king’s neck as she snarled in his ear, “Don’t you touch my sister.” (acowar)

And this is probably why Elain’s rose is half-hidden in shadows next to the Mother. Her Cauldron-blessed powers might allow her to be half-there, half-elsewhere when she becomes part of that greater, divine consciousness.

Her gaze shifted to the carved wooden rose she’d placed upon the mantel, half-hidden in the shadows beside a figurine of a supple-bodied female, her upraised arms clasping a full moon between them. Some sort of primal goddess–perhaps even the Mother herself. (acosf)

It’s possible she used this power to locate the Suriel, which was practice for the main event: answering Feyre’s pleas and taking down Hybern in place of the Cauldron. Her Sight—a truth teller itself—likely activated Truth-Teller, guiding her to exactly the right place at the right time. The question is, since she is not bound like Feyre, did she then winnow (ie, travel like Hope through the Void, light cutting through the darkness) to save her family? And has she continued to help them in this way?

Islands of grass dotted the expanse, some so crowded with brambles that he could find no safe place to land. The tangles of thorns were a mockery of what might have been - as if Oorid had ever produced roses. Not a single flower bloomed. [...] Run, a small voice whispered. Run and run, and do not look back. The voice was female, gentle. Wise and serene. Run. [...] Run. Was that voice merely all that remained of her human instincts, or something more? She gazed at her reflection as if it would tell her. Something rustled in the thorns of the island, and she snapped up her head, heart thundering as she scanned for that familiar male face and wings. But there was no sign of Cassian. And whatever was in that bramble...She should find another island to head for. (acosf)

This small voice warning Nesta to run also reminds me of Elain’s warning cry to Feyre before she is Made by the Cauldron.

My sisters were shrieking over their gags. But Elain’s cry—a warning. A warning to—To my right, now exposed, Tamlin ran for me. To grab me at last. I hurled a knife at him—as hard as I could. (acomaf)

Sarah planted Nesta’s questions in the Oorid scene to make us wonder. Is this voice something more? And is Nesta’s reflection, her own flesh and blood, a fun hint? After all, who is even better than the spymaster at keeping secrets, and who would’ve known where Nesta was headed? Elain might have defied her sister’s order (like we knew she would) to stay away from the Cauldron and help yet again, a rose bloom half-hidden in the shadows among the thorns. And I bet she will learn a ritual to help focus and ground her movements.

Welcome pile one. The way I read cards makes it so people energy's might intertwined. So, I could be talking about you while wording it as if it's about your partner or vice versa.

So, let's get started. First, the current view you have of your partner is really grounded and put together. They put on this persona to make you feel safe and secure when you are with them. They don't feel like a romantic partner though, not yet anyway. They are probably a friend with benefits or someone you exclusively see for sexual reasons. I think when y'all started exploring together they took charge of leading the experience. They are definitely a dom/top. They taught you a lot about what you enjoy in sex. They showed you kinks you had no idea existed until you heard it from them. They give off leader energy big time. When they look at you sometimes their gaze makes you feel like prey. Egotober Day 30: Witch

Celine had been called a witch many times. She’d found her abilities early when her and Damien had been young. And she honestly liked the dark gothic aesthetic and style. She’d also been called an ice queen but witch was much more common. It was mostly in childish insults or whispers around her, there were very few that dared to shout it in her face for fear of what she’d do to them. But one of those few it turned out was her husband.

It had been another argument, for what reason she couldn’t remember clearly now as she stalked through the manor with anger bubbled in her veins. But the last part of it rang in her head like the echo of a gunshot. ‘Don’t you try to play innocent with me you conniving witch!’ Her hands shook as she threw her suitcase open. She felt the burn in her veins, the sparks of energy at her fingertips. She wanted to show him what the word really meant. What someone could do with powers like hers. But Celine still loved the proud man she’d fallen for, she didn’t want to hurt him that way at least. But she needed to leave, at least long enough to cool them both off….

Dark blinked once as the memory faded to the back of his mind from where it had been brought out. As he looked at the so called ‘hero’ in front of him. Still in that stupid red suit with that arrogant smirk on his face at what had left his lips. ‘Celine was nothing but a conniving witch!’ Dark’s face twisted in a mocking sneer as he loosened his stance and moved forward in a predatory prowl. The righteous anger of a protective brother filled his words as a hand clenched into a fist.

“A witch was she? Little more than someone who performed parlor tricks or was someone to blame when things went wrong? Well..”

Dark had a vicious pleasure summer in his veins that was shared three fold as he felt the bastard’s nose crack under his fist. As he watched him fall to the ground. He smirked as he felt the brother step back. As his body shifted and changed to match the pulse of fury that only a scorned and betrayed woman was capable of making.

She looked more elegant, the suit fell against her curves with a sensual sort of ferocity. Dark rolled her shoulders and cracked her neck as she set her heel on his throat. Magic, so much stronger, darker than it had been before leapt into her hands with barely a thought. She smirked at the furious, shocked and…..yes afraid look on Actor’s face. He hadn’t expected to deal with her and the strength of venom in her voice, if it had been possible, would have killed him from necrosis ten times over.

“Maybe I should show you how much of a witch I really am.”

Re-read some of my favorite Sorcha x Red parts from Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. One of my favorite fictional book couples ever. I loved Daughter of the Forest so much (Sorcha is such a great character I love her), to this day it makes me so disappointed I didn't really enjoy the rest of the series. Spoilers below

I didn't like Son of the Shadows. I disliked Bran, was barely okay with Liadan (the only thing I liked was her "choose the third option" choice in the end which mirrored her dad's which was ironic considering she was supposedly so much like her mother). But all the characters from book 1 were SUCH ASSHOLES AS ADULTS that it kinda formed my opinion that children of the original characters do not make good sequel material (cause the new main characters gotta have their own parent issues and it just sucks to watch your previous favorites become terrible parents). You're telling me Red is gonna treat his daughter like that?!?! Just let her uncle push her into an abusive marriage?!?! No. And Sorcha dies. And I just really couldn't get past the incest tbh which was a major plot point

Child of the Prophecy I liked a bit better only because I like Fainne and Darragh. Childhood friends to lovers is my jam, and him always showing up and calling her Curly made me smile, they are just a sweet couple. And Fainne is a great morally complex character (one of the best parts is someone reminding Fainne she has two grandmothers, cause she is so fixated on being Oonagh's granddaughter you forget she is also Sorcha's. Great, simple comment to illustrate her internal conflict). Too bad their ending sucks. Forever isolation. Maybe Fainne was initially okay with that as an introvert, but I think there's nothing nice about it for Darragh except he's with his true love. And it felt like at the end no one in the Sevenwaters family really cared what happened to her (just like with Niamh). But the twist of her being the child of the prophecy after everyone kept assuming it was Johnny was well-done (especially since it tied into Liadan's unexpected choice from last book)

I barely remember Heir of Sevenwaters except again wasn't too fond of the love interest. And never read Seer of Sevenwaters or Flame of Sevenwaters.

az keeps a secret from mor and everyone else. the true reason behind their abilities to sense each other, even through shadows/glamours, comes from the fact mor actually died in the autumn court woods (this is what prompted her true power awake) and he used magic to bring her back, unintentionally binding them together. a bond that has been solidified by their bargain tattoo.

this is one of the two main reasons az struggles to keep calm when it comes to eris. because he knows that eris not coming to mor’s aid that night caused her to actually die. the other reason is because he has a traumatic past with fire. and azriel is also an empath and, since that day he’s directly connected to mor’s emotions in a much deeper way than he is with anybody else, and so he knows exactly how eris’ presence makes her feel. az never told anyone. because if people were to know a lesser fae like him possess some ancient magic that allowed him to bring someone back from the dead, it would create some tension. his high lord could even be accused of having withheld this information from the other courts and this could compromise the few alliances the night court has managed to forge. az doesn't like to be under the spotlight either. he's a very private person. and the last thing he wants to do is for the whole of prythian to know how different/powerful he truly is because he's aware he could be targeted because of it, just like he was in his youth.
