It was a super exciting book mail day! Both of these I had been waiting on a WHILE. The two poetry books are international orders from The Emma Press, so of course those took awhile, and then I think there was a COVID-related hitch in my Sal & Gabi preorder, as its release date was last week. Alchemy: Why poetry publishers need to get it together

Poetry publishing can be fun, rewarding and inspiring, but it can also prove tough, isolating and tiring. With that in mind, I’ve written this short piece for the wonderful BookMachine about the need for poetry presses to collaborate.

It contains such gems as:

“Collaboration is about more than just scoring retweets, high-fives and affiliate sales. It’s about access to new countries and languages, new spaces, new voices, new ways of looking at poetry.“

I received this short story collection by Leanne Radojkovich as a Christmas present from a dear friend.

What made me even happier is that it's published from @theemmapress. I've been wanting to purchase a book from them for so long. I was not disappointed. Feminist Stories of magical realism and gothic horror. The illustrations by Rachel J. Fenton fit perfectly the atmosphere of the book and the smell was enchanting ✨ Seriously, I couldn't stop smelling it. I can't remember the last time a book smelled that good.

🪄Q: Can you recommend me a few small and independent publishers that you love and one book (any genre) that I should absolutely read from them?

Some of my favourite independent publishers are @saqibooks for El Saadawi's books.

@bloodaxebooks for great poetry by women. ( Jen Campbell, Tishani Doshi, Claire Askew)

@charcopress for women authors like Claudia Pineiro, Ariana Harwisz, Selva Almada.
