Hi! I love the patterns you used in your most recent piece (it's absolutely lovely)! Where are they from? And in general can you recommend a good place to look for material (chainmail, platemail etc.) and cloth patterns for digital artists? I've been looking to add more texture to my art. Thanks for your time and have a great day! :)

Oh thank you sm! And most of the patterns I use are available on the Clip Studio Asset store, I use a lot of patterns from @bunabi (I'll link her Patreon here to support her!) and the specific patterns are up on CSP here and here - Other patterns I use are these hand drawn ones and these pattern brushes!

And for chainmail I usually download a chainmail pattern from google into my pattern stamp tool for photoshop (here's a tutorial how to do that) and i usually use regular texture packs for fabric like this

Bro so I'm thinking about Shadow of Rose and Donna's House and how when Ethan went through it his biggest fear manifested into a mutated baby right? He was terrified that he wouldn't be able to put Rose back together again or that if he did she wouldn't be the same.

Well, when Rose finds herself in the same position, her biggest fear manifests into her mom. Her mom chasing her, eyes always looking. We have no clue what happened to Mia besides that Rose hasn't talked to her in a while, but we do know Mia's character and what she has done to both Eveline and Ethan.

There's a reason Rose's nightmare was her mother.

Just thinking about how young Leon looks in re4r and it really drives home how his youth has been stolen from him. He was coerced into working for the government after raccoon city, continuously forced to fight through hell after hell— his twenties are gone by the time he makes it to Spain but he is still so so young. It’s sad to think of how much was taken from him.

I was approached by the lovely @thefailureartist for an insight to my art process which totally made my day. 💖

My work-flow isn't really anything special but I'll try to illustrate it here a bit (since have no experience with making vids :P). But a video isn't completely off the table. I just thought that until I can do something more detailed, this is better than nothing. You'd find that I'm horrifyingly unorganized, forget to name at least half of the layers, paint on the wrong layer more often than I'd like, and just as a whole don't plan ahead. :D

I channeled my self-indulgent streak for this and chose my canon warden, Lugnith Tabris ✨

I used Krita and mainly the brushes which I listed here. I’ll use the brush thumbnails to highlight what brushes I’ve used.

Currently I'm working from greyscale to colour for several reasons. 1) I'm still very unsure about wtf I'm doing digitally; 2) working in greyscale pushes my value knowledge which was and still is sorely needed; 3) working in greyscale & applying colour later is strangely meditative for me; 4) I love b/w work.

step 1: I'll first roughly sketch in what I want in a very basic way. Normally I'd choose some references next but for this I just worked with the in-game screenshot for her overall aesthetic. 

I block in rough tones using my hard-edge brush and don't go in too detailed yet. I drew a few lines (see eyes, bridge of the nose, ear, and mouth). Most of the time I mark down where important parts are since I tend to lose sight of that.

step 2: here I do what I shouldn't have done and that is darkening the background too early. Because of that I didn't notice that her facial values were too light. But apart from that, I smudged most of the blocked-in parts and started detailing her form and hair until I reach step 3 which is where I finally noticed that it's too light (because I lightened the background again). 

So at step 4, I darkened the overall value and really focused on her face, working out the details.

I guess what I can say about my process is that I keep comparing the steps I take in digital art to what I would be able to do traditionally. I keep encountering people that say you shouldn't use smudge brushes and I'm like ????? I smudge with dry brushes in my acrylic work or my fingers if I'm feeling like it. With charcoal I smudge with a tissue, with paper stumps, or if I'm feeling nasty, again, with my fingers (& bemoan the fact that there's streaks on the paper afterwards). 

step 5 is where I finalize the greyscale part. It's pretty much just a continuation of 4: more lights, more shadows, more details like the freckles. (and I lightened the background almost to the same value it was at step 1 again, hooray. Could have saved myself so much time)

step 6: Colour! I put down some colouring groundwork on a layer set to Colour. 

step 7: I then duplicate that Colour layer, set it to Soft Light, add more colours, and set the Soft Light layer to an opacity around 70-80%.

step 8: At this point I really worked in all kinds of colours especially into the skin. I also added a secondary light source on a separate layer because let it burn. On that layer, which is set to Normal, I add further coloured details.

For texturing the skin more I used a modified round brush with the Krita texture resource A_concrete. 

The background brush is a sponge brush.

step 9: Thinking that a levitating head might be a tad weird with this background, I gave her shoulders. Now there's pretty much only a few more details to add like the orange light bouncing off a few hair strands and the neck. As a final step I always like to add a tiny bit of grain to whatever I'm painting. Just something around 5-10%.

I have the same issue. Plus, I can’t hold a conversation to save my life, so even when I put in the effort of keeping in touch, it leads nowhere.

i feel you! you’re putting in the effort and that’s what important, i think

i need like 12 years knowing a person to finally relax in a conversation, maybe :D

idk if it helps but I feel this way too, it’s hard to keep in touch but hopefully some of our loved ones will stay regardless
