outfit ramblings:

first of all that is a Terrible rendition of what Home looks like in my head. i just needed to fill empty space </3

the staff was the toughest part honestly. bc it Had to be paintbrush-themed, but then halfway through scribbling i was like "oh shit. there are only so many ways to draw a paintbrush-wizard-staff and Weevmo already hit it out of the park." so if you're seeing similarities! you're right! i tried to make it as different as i could! there is Inspiration from their marvelous design, however accidental or subconscious! Apologies!

he gets a pointed hood instead of a hat because a) it looks great on him! and b) it has less of a chance of messing up his hair! also c) it helps muddle the difference between Wizard and Warlock. typically hoods have evil/duplicitous connotation - blur the lines! i want his long gloves and forearm wraps to have the same vibe. his neckerchief is a big help in hiding Home's seal!

his layered (loosely apple-themed) capelet (which the hood is attached to) has a nice high collar & hides the details of his loose shirt - eye embroidery! and some flowers on the shoulders but yk, mostly eyes. on one side of the shirt buttons has open eyes, the other side they're closed! there's also one big eye on his back!

his belt buckle is two halves of an apple! he wears tall thigh-high boots w/ low heels to feel Taller! he has a book-holster hooked to the back of his belt, which holds his grimoire! and he has a lil thigh-bag that has been magicked to be Bottomless and warps size! he can fit pretty much anything in there! canvases! paint! apples!

his half-skirt thing (idk what the word for it is!) is really plush, like a quilt - his capelet is the same fabric. soft, cozy. sometimes he'll use the skirt thing as a blanket in a pinch, or as a picnic placemat!

is his outfit a little Complicated? is it annoying to replicate? yes and yes. but im a maximalist at heart and Nothing But The Best for the blorbo <3 layers my beloved <3

Anyway I’m still thinking about how Law was so attached to Cora and was so traumatized by his death that he literally devoted thirteen YEARS of his life to revenge killing Doflamingo. Even though all Cora ever wanted was for Law to just be free and live his life happily. And Law spending all his time in a hateful revenge spiral is literally the exact OPPOSITE of what Cora wanted for him. BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE. If the thirteen years of endless devotion to avenging his savior wasn’t enough Law 1. Named his pirate crew the Heart Pirates in honor of Cora, 2. Covered himself in permanent heart-themed tattoos in honor of Cora, and 3. Fashioned his Jolly Roger to be a mockery of Doflamingo’s and ALSO to honor Cora. Homie is a walking memorial for a man he only really knew for six months and again crafted the most intricate plan known to mankind to murder Cora’s killer. Because losing Cora fucked him up THAT much. Because even though Cora set him free, the moment Doflamingo shot him Law was chained to the memory of a man who no longer existed. Law literally fashioned his entire life down to his own appearance after Cora and it makes me so insane. I cannot even imagine what went through his head after Dressrosa I mean how do you move on after a thirteen year grudge is put to rest. What is he supposed to do now. Avenging Cora was literally his entire existence, his entire reason for living for half of his life. He needs therapy probably. If Cora somehow ever did come back to life Law would lose his fucking mind. The dependency is SO unhealthy and I am SO here for it

saying "it is not necessary to have sweets every day" should not be seen as controversial, but i have had people go for my throat for that take. its literally unthinkable apparently not to have a sweet treat on the daily (or multiple times per day).

i'm not saying "sugar bad" or anything, it's good to enjoy a little dessert every now and then. but i think a lot of Americans are so used to having a diet high in sugary foods, and it's so normalized and what so many people grew up with, that me saying "your kids don't need to have dessert every day" is accused of toxic diet culture mindset and depriving children of joy.

and the thing is, our sweets are really sweet. you don't notice it when you grew up with it, it just seems normal. but if you travel elsewhere or go on a low-sugar diet, suddenly our ice cream and cookies and donuts seem un-appetizingly overly sweet.

anyways i'm not saying don't give your kids dessert, but i think a lot of Americans underestimate how addicted they are to sweets. if the mere suggestion to limit the intake to once or twice a week gives you a knee-jerk reaction of fear/horror/disgust, "i could never! i earned this!", there is a problem.

Hello! I was just recently having some pretty serious Toby brain a few days ago (my brain switches from one killer man to another these days) and I think it's coming back so I wanted to request Toby with an s/o who is very awkward and clingy? Like they don't know how talk to the other proxies or anything so they just mostly stick to Toby since that's the only person they know. Hugging his arm, holding onto his shoulder to not get lost in a crowd, stuff like that.

Not that they never talk to people, they do, it's just when they do they have absolutely no idea what they're doing in a social climate and are very aware of it. That kind of awkward.

If that's too specific you don't have to do it! I just like The Guy.

- he completely gets it. he doesn't question it when you sink into yourself in the face of any social environment, doesn't question it when you cling to his side on any excursion, doesn't question it when you hold his hand just a little tighter in the presence of others - he squeezes right back, like his own little way of saying "it's alright, i'm here, i've got you". he knows that he's your person, that he's the only one that can make it better in those moments, and he's alright with having that dependence on his shoulders. anything you need.

- he's incredibly protective over you. your social ineptitude makes you an easy target - he knows by the way some of the others talk about you when you aren't around, knows by the way they talk when they think he's not listening - so he leads you around like a guard dog, acting as a defensive barrier between you and everything else, baring his teeth at any notion of hostility. god help anyone who thinks they can give you shit. he's just so afraid of something happening to you... if he's always there, then nothing will. the two of you are hardly ever apart. he makes sure of it.

- he knows you gravitate toward the background, but he also hates to see you all by yourself. he's aware that it's not that you don't want to talk to people, it's just that you can't, so he tries to help by taking you by the hand and acting as a sort of buffer between you and others. he figures you'd rather feel included than ignored. if he notices you start to trip over yourself - he's very in tune with you, can tell when your heartbeat starts to get all uneasy, can tell when your body begins to flush with embarrassment - he tries to distract you from it in little subtle ways, like gently doing The Thumb Thing or redirecting the conversation elsewhere to allow you a moment to collect yourself. it's all worth it to see you with a smile on your face rather than overshadowed in the corner of the room.

- the two of you are ALWAYS all over each other. pda up to the fucking nines dude. physical touch is absolutely his love language - that, and he's learned that touch helps keep you grounded, helps keep you present, helps you from getting too deep in your own head. he'll guide you around with a hand on your shoulder or the back of your neck, he'll sit with you shoulder-to-shoulder no matter where you are, he'll rub your back while he's talking to someone to show that, while his eyes are somewhere else, his attention is never off you. he isn't afraid to show his affection for you in front of others. in fact, he asserts it. uses it as a sort of warning. while he's got you caged in his arms from behind, he's staring them down with a knowing sort of glint in his eye, something that says "watch yourself, motherfucker". he gets treated like a joke a lot of the time, but when it comes to you, everyone just knows not to fuck with him.

- when you start to get all in your head about the way you act, the things you say, the way you're perceived - "why am i like this, i don't want to be this way anymore, why can't i just talk, why can everyone else do it but i can't, they all look at me like i'm stupid" - he's right there to pull you out of it. he'll take your face between his hands and shush you, make it so that the only two things in the world right now are you and him, nobody else - "they don't matter, there's only us, don't worry about them, you've felt like this before, you always end up okay, because i'm here" - words meant to reframe your thoughts, words meant to make it better. he's so close to helping you in a way that's healthy, he's so fucking close, but... as is par for the course with everything he touches, it's been spoiled with his compelling starvation for approval, spoiled with his honest-to-god, in every sense of the word, fear of being abandoned. again.

what's your opinion on fanfics about dnp? (more in a way of do you think that it's crossing boundaries and/or being parasocial)

i'm of the same mind of dnp in that phanfic is fucking incredible. it's an important and valid way to express yourself, as well as a building block of our community. i don't think it's crossing boundaries, as it's fiction. i don't see it as parasocial either--you're writing for you and others like you. most people don't want dnp reading their fics, it's not for them in a sense, it's for us.

i think dnp are extremely aware of fanfic and its value and place in community. they've always encouraged it, appreciated the support, and given us space about it. they're not ones to make videos about it and mock fans for it (which happened to some of our lovely fic writers here writing for other yt fandoms, and i'm so sorry about it). dnp are fandom culture people. they've written fic themselves! and published it in their book!

the word parasocial has been twisted lately to imply any fan support is unnatural and should be shamed, which is complete fucking bullshit. making art is always important and valued. and it is necessary for your existence as a human, but also for the thing you're a fan of to thrive.

the parasocial side comes in once you start believing you know this person. and that you're their real friend. when in reality, they do not know you specifically, and you are not their friend, you are an audience member.

so a parasocial relationship only occurs when people start crossing boundaries (digging for not publicly available information, contacting people in their personal life, showing up to their house, etc). which, is absolutely nowhere close to real fan behaviour.

tl;dr: phanfic is great, i love you fic writers, parasociality is a problem but not one that we have
