ive done alot if thinking about this one and have come to the conclusion that his love languages are acts of service and gift giving. i kinda based this decision off of how he acts with babs and booster in countdown to infinite crisis. dude is about to go bankrupt AGAIN but he's still offering to pay for tickets and lets booster borrow his card, even if it negatively affects him. hes a superhero for one but also his entire reasoning behind becoming the second blue beetle was because he feels like he OWES it to dan, he wants to make up for his blind faith to his uncle which lead to dans death. i think he loves doing favours for people because it makes him feel good about himself, and he loves the feeling of being appreciated.

words of affirmation and physical touch. he has boundaries when it comes to the physical touch of course, but booster is the main exception, with ted being quite touchy himself at times. i like to base this off of the first appearance of dan's death in blue beetle 1967 where as dan says his last words hes caressing teds face UGHH that shit fucks me up man -- but i can definitely imagine him melting in someones hands if they held his face or something (booster, of course).

then theres the words of affirmation. ted gets compliments alot, obviously, usually due to his status in hub city and his intelligence. but there are times where he feels unappreciated or isnt taken seriously, usually by higher ranked heroes (cough cough BATMAN cough) . in countdown to infinite crisis (yes im referencing this comic AGAIN im SORRY) he is pushed aside constantly by multiple people. the few people who did listen to him, namely superman and wonderwoman, its stated in booster gold 2007 he "felt bad for wasting their time.". ted needs reassurance, he needs to be reassured that he isnt a bother. though at times a wise-cracking jerk, he still does care about how others view him. and spending like most or his childhood being put down by his father and then years later by heroes he works with he deserves someone telling him he's doing good once in awhile 😭.

I finally got around to reading the three Blue Beetle: Rebirth comics today, as part of my hype train for DC's Blue Beetle, and uh guys? Ted Kord is like everything I 've ever wanted out of the cliché brilliant scientist type of comic book character. I genuinely love how he's a straight up dork that's trying his best and doing everything he can to make Jaime a better superhero than he was throughout all this run. After seeing years of the brilliant scientist or genius tech guy being done in the MCU, this iteration of that character was so refreshing to see, even if I'm years late (lol). Also, Ted's reaction to Batman just appearing out of nowhere behind him to confront him about what's been going with Jaime has to be the most honest and most human reaction I've ever seen. Shit was hilarious.

NOW WHO EXACTLY ARE THESE CLOWNS?

blue beetle II, aka theodore "ted" kord, was created by steve ditko and first appeared as a backup feature in 1966 in charlton comics' captain atom series. he later got his own short-lived solo, before the charlton heroes were acquired by DC in the mid-80s and integrated into the DC universe via the crisis on infinite earths crossover event. ted had a solo run in the 80s, but is perhaps best known for being a central and founding member of the justice league international, where he met his lifelong best friend booster gold.

booster gold, aka michael jon carter, was created by dan jurgens and first appeared in his 1986 solo series as the first new major character introduced to the post-crisis DC universe. booster soon joined the justice league international, and has since had two really good solos and featured prominently in 52. he's most well known as the fame-hungry time-travelling hero with a heart of gold, as well as the blue beetle's best friend.

together, they're known for being fun-loving heroes, the personification of the 'bwa-ha-ha' era of the justice league, and one of the best friendships in the DC universe.

i've compiled a catalogue of every single comic appearance of both of these characters, as well as highlighting what i consider 'essential' blue & gold reading. each issue is also marked with whether they're both in it, whether/to what degree they interact, content warnings, and my own personal notes (some of which might even be useful to people other than me).

Booster Gold headcanons

In one of his time travelling missions, Booster finds a baby in a sort-of cloning facility, he decides he can't leave him there so he takes the baby with him (like he did with Rani)

Rip Hunter takes one look at the baby and, with the most startled look, leaves the room

Booster later finds out that the baby has his DNA

(yes this is baby Rip, but shhhh Booster doesn't know that)

Guess whose DNA the baby also has?

You guessed it! Ted Kord

Well, Ted is dead in this point of the time line so Booster sees the baby as one of the last legacies his best friend left

And so he names him Theodore, Theo for short

Rani is delighted to have a younger sibling and Michelle is excited to have a new nephew to spoil and look after

The three of them (Michael, Rani and Theo) get a place on earth in the 21st century

They have two guest rooms that are in all but name the official rooms for Rip and Michelle when they come over (aka all the time)

Booster still goes on missions with Rip and that serves as basically his job

One time Rip can't hide the excited look on his face when he tells Booster he needs him for a certain mission

His excitement becomes much more clear when the mission ends with Booster saving Ted and flying home with him

They continue their relationship where they left off. They were together romantically before and that still continues but before anything they were and still are each other's best friends which makes their bond and relationship even stronger

Ted immediately falls in love with the kids and they become the family they had never been able to be

Ted is not ashamed to admit he teared up when Michael told him he gave his name to their kid

Michelle is thrilled to finally meet him (the sentiment is mutual) and they become fast friends over their mutual love for pranking and protecting Michael (one does not eliminate the other)

Rip politely greets him, although there's something in the look of his eyes that betray his composed expression. They become friends bonding over their mutual love of science, more specifically physics, and consequently spend a lot of time in their labs working together

Rani gets attached to him rather quickly after spending time with him and seeing how happy he makes 'Mikey'

She also takes to calling him Teddy in no time

Theo also gets attached to him, he loves how Ted (and Michael) play with him, how he comes running whenever he senses something might me wrong and the great hugs he gives when he feels Theo needs one

(Ted is also not ashamed to admit he definitely teared up the first time Theo called him 'Dad')

Amidst all of this, it seems Rip spends less and less time at their house

When they realize this they agree that who seems him first can talk to Rip about it

It's Ted who ends up seeing him first

Rip sorrowfully tells him he didn't wish to impose now that they had their real family, that it's okay, that he understands and doesn't want to inconvenience anybody by making it awkward

Ted, tearing up himself, instinctively brings him into a hug. He assures Rip he's a part of their family and nothing will ever change that, that they'd love if he came back

(Ted ignore how Rip silently shakes in his harms and how the shoulder where Rip rests his head is getting wet with tears)

When they part, Rip still holds on to him and finally says, in a scratchy voice, 'Thank you-', cutting himself off before he finishes his sentence

But Ted is not considered a genius for no reason and looking over Rip he recognizes those blue eyes and auburn hair,- he seems them in both Michael and himself. He seems them in the little kid they have running around the house, and so he realizes how the sentence was to be finished- with the word he has become so familiar with and one of the most important names he ever had the pleasure to be called- 'Dad'

Tbh on a more serious note, I would like the show to explore like,,,,,how DEEPLY depressed Booster is. He has deep abandonment issues he never believes he is good enough to be loved he is always seen as the butt of the joke. A good Booster has to be funny but also has to be deeply, deeply sad.

I had a random thought that I really like.

I’m getting back into Blue Beetle; both Ted Kord and Jaime Reyes.

I’m just getting into Booster Gold because...gay.

(Booster and Ted’s like slapstick dorky awkward humor isn’t usually my thing, okay? But they’re fun friends and...other things (thank you fandom you are correct))

And I still know barely anything about Booster’s...everything? Like, I barely know anything about Michelle and Rani and Rip.

I HAD A THINK

Rip can’t tell Booster his real name because Time Shenanigans, right? So “Rip Hunter” isn’t a real name (tbh it sounds like a dumb hero name--like, he’s hunting for rips in time, like, is that not what his name means???) and he may not have been born on Booster’s personal timeline yet, right?

And I thought, “You know what’d be really cute? If Rip was a nickname, maybe his middle name (like Earth-One OG version Rip was short for Ripley) but his given name is Theo. Short for Theodore. Like Booster was like “I want to name my kid after my best friend but I cannot call him Ted this is Theo”“

Someone tell me this is as cute as I think it is.

- I am currently working on separating them from the lore of D&D entirely, but be mindful that this is a work in progress!

- Most all of the in-world lore was developed by me and my roommate and has nothing to do with D&D, but things like races, classes, and gods still have a close tie to the Wizards of the Coast lore and will be changed.

-Terafina Beltari- A 6'0 180 lbs Saestmang Merchant. Wife of Mischief Beltari. Mother of Aravari and Noam Beltari.

Basic Personality- Controlling, optimistic woman. Will do whatever she deems necessary to succeed in the ways she wants to.

Hobbies- Stealing, watching fights, gambling, cloud watching
