Gabriel lives is just what it says on the tin - he gets shot but doesn't die. It's a what if... of the wedding eps, but with Gabriel there to watch his son marry his soulmate - as it should have been!

here's a little bit of Carlos angsting over asking Gabriel to be his best man after his I hate the Texas Rangers rant.

“What are you doing up?” TK sleepily wrapped his arms around his fiancé’s neck, leaning down to look at his computer screen. “Come back to bed, it’s still early.” He dropped a kiss in Carlos’ neck and rubbed his chest through his sleep shirt.

He sighed and leaned back against TK as he took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes.

“I couldn’t sleep. I thought I’d go over the seating charts again.”

“Why? Is Michelle coming after all? Did someone cancel?”

“No, Michelle can’t make it… But after today I’m not sure she will be the only one missing.”

“Your dad?”

“Hmm…”

“Do you really think he won’t want to come anymore? And your mother would let him?”

Carlos gave him a small smile.

“I suppose not. But I don’t want him there against his will…”

“Babe… he’s your dad, he loves you. Don’t you think he’ll want to see you get married?” TK asked, moving around him and sitting down in his lap. “To the love of your life.” He added with a wink and pressed a kiss to Carlos’ lips.

Carlos wrapped his arms around him and the two of them just sat in silence for a while. TK ran his hand up and down Carlos’ back, knowing it made him relax.

“I just… I don’t know what to do if he says no…” Carlos said quietly.

“What do you mean if he says no? That he won’t come to the wedding anymore?”

“I… don’t have a best man yet.”

TK pulled back to look at him.

“I thought you asked him ages ago?”

And Undercover Carlos is a what if of his big secret in season 4. Instead of being married to Iris, he's offered a chance to go undercover to help bust a texas drug ring. Kind of like Owen's story with the Nazis - but with Carlos working with the FBI instead of Owen. I posted two chapters ages ago and I've been meaning to update but it's sort of gotten lost in the WIP pile.

My mom says she heard my name on a TV show but can't remember which one.

2. When was the last time you cried?

Definitely about 1.5 weeks ago.

3. Do you have kids?

No.

4. What sports do you play/have played?

Softball

5. Do you use sarcasm?

Yes.

6. What's the first thing you notice about people?

How they're approaching me. Loud, quiet, observant, etc. Because I am a small prey animal and I need to know what your intentions are.

7. What’s your eye color?

Blue-green.

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Both. But more scary movies these days for me. In fic, I need happy endings.

9. Any talents?

Not to brag, but I'm on level 552 of Triple Match (3D matching game). I can also sing the rap part from TLC's Waterfalls.

10. Where were you born?

In the hospital I currently work next door to. I walk over there every day on the way to the bus.

11. What are your hobbies?

The usual: writing fic, reading fic, making gif sets, making fan vids. Also: collecting/making perfume, reading books (esp mysteries and non-fiction), antiquing, interior decorating, reading wikipedia articles on strange topics, and crafty stuff like embroidery, miniatures, and jewelry making.

12. Do you have any pets?

This is Lily. She is almost 15! She’s my sweet girl.

13. How tall are you?

5'10

14. Favorite subject in school?

English. I was always the teacher's pet because I answered questions in class and wrote good papers and obviously loved to read.

15. Dream job?

Don't have one. I like my current job because my boss is a friend I've known for nearly 15 years. If money was no issue, I'd work part-time at a bookstore like I did throughout high school and college.

Last Movie/TV show: had a rewatch of Scrooged with Joelie last week, and just finished the new Who ep. Haven't watched the show properly in many many many years, but I couldn't resist the nostalgia!

Sweet/Spicy/Savory: I miss spicy SO much (my stomach is a traitor :(((() but I'm very much a savory over sweet kinda guy.

Relationship status: single

Current Obsession: Thai dramas as always, but my Christmas fever continues to rise! Over the past few years I've rediscovered my love of Christmastime, something I thought I would never get back. Very grateful to get to enjoy it with Dad and Joelie!

Feels Like Home To Me

Michael woke in stages. First, he noticed the sunlight behind his eyelids as whatever he was dreaming about slipped away. Then it was the comfort of the body laying next to him, the warmth of Alex, safe and sound. Finally, as he opened his eyes it was Alex’s fingers trailing over his chest and Michael felt more awake than he had in what felt like forever.

“Good morning,” Alex said softly, his fingers never ceasing their journey over Michael’s skin. “I hope you don’t mind me waking you, I couldn’t resist.” He admitted.

“You kidding? This is the best morning I’ve had in a while. I missed you.” The last part is said in a whisper. Michael hadn’t even been able to sleep in the bed without Alex here. And being at Deep Sky during their recovery after the pocket dimension meant very little sleep really happened.

“I missed you,” Alex said simply before leaning in and placing a kiss on Michael’s shoulder.

Michael pulled Alex in close, wrapping his arms around him, needing him in the tight circle of his arms. “How soon does the calvary arrive today?” He asked

“I told them not before noon, that I was exhausted and so were you,” Alex said with a grin.

“I love you,” Michael said grinning right back.

“I love you too,” Alex said softly and then he leaned in and kissed Michel slowly, gently. They had time now, there was no longer any reason to rush.

The handprint was almost completely faded from Alex’s chest now, but it didn’t matter, they’d said everything that needed to be said out loud anyway. Now they were going to say it again for their friends and family in a hopefully low-key ceremony this evening. Something he’d often thought wouldn’t ever happen.

“What are you thinking about?” Alex asked.

“Just tonight. There were times when I thought it wouldn’t ever be possible.” Michael admitted.

Alex nodded. “I get that. It’s been a long road getting here.”

“It has, but it was worth it. I’d do it all over again if it meant I got to spend the rest of my life with you.” Michael said, and if he teared up a little bit saying it, well there was only Alex here and he didn’t mind Alex knowing the way he felt.

“You make me so happy,” Alex whispered leaning in for another kiss.

“You’ve made me ridiculously happy,” Michael said. He gave Alex a squeeze because it felt so good to have him there in his arms. “So do you think Isobel really will keep the wedding casual tonight or will we show up to a formal event?” Alex asked with a laugh.

Michael gave a heavy sigh and then laughed. “There’s probably very little chance we’re really getting married at Max’s and having a party at the Pony, but I guess that’s on us for agreeing to leave it in her hands.”

Michael didn’t care where they got married or what kind of party they had really, he’d wanted low-key, but deep down he just wanted to celebrate that they’d survived and now they were starting a life together.

“It’ll be perfect,” Alex said wistfully.

“I think so too.” Michael agreed.

They spent the rest of the morning in bed trading kisses and touches and eventually making love until it was almost too late for showers, but they just barely pulled it off before their friends arrived to get them ready for the big day.

“Ready?” Alex asked as they quickly pulled on their clothes while Isobel yelled from the living room to hurry up.

“Ready,” Michael told him. And he was. He felt like he’d been waiting for this day his whole life.

You Light A Spark In My Bonfire Heart

“And to think we threw a parade for your queer ass.” Wyatt was saying just as Michael stepped within earshot in the Pony parking lot. He couldn’t see who he was talking to but he didn’t have to see to know it was Alex.

“So what are you gonna do about it?” Alex was saying. “I wear the wrong shirt and now you’re going to beat me up? I’d like to see you try.”

When Michael rounded the trucks in the parking lot he found not only Wyatt Long facing Alex but all of his cronies too.

Dammit, Alex, Michael thought. He could take Wyatt, but a crowd was another thing altogether.

“Hey Wyatt, you know what they say about queers don’t you?” Michael asked, coming up behind them.

Wyatt turned toward him. “What?”

“Takes one to know one,” Michael said, and then he waited for all hell to break loose. And it did.

Wyatt swung first, clipping Michael in the jaw, but it barely hurt. Michael punched him hard enough to break his nose, and the others jumped in. It didn’t take too long to fight them off. Alex got in a few good swings himself, but it was when he took down Wyatt, dropping him to the ground that everyone backed down. They were like lemmings, following their leader. If he couldn’t lead, then they couldn’t follow.

They picked him up and ran off.

Michael turned to look at Alex for the first time. He had a cut on his cheek, but otherwise, he looked mainly unscathed.

“You really are a dickhead, Guerin,” Alex said, surprising Michael completely.

“You’re welcome, Manes.” Michael gestured around at the fact that there was no longer a crowd of assholes waiting to beat the shit out of Alex, but Alex just crossed his arms and shook his head.

“You’re not even going to say you’re sorry, are you?” Alex asked.

Michael shrugged, unrepentant. "Sorry would mean that I regret what I did."

Alex threw up his hands. “Are you drunk right now?”

“I just got here, I haven’t been inside, much less had anything to drink,” Michael assured him.

“So what, you just decided I couldn’t handle my own battles? I’m fully trained, Michael, I didn’t need or want your help, and you’ve made it quite clear recently that you don’t want to be a part of my life, so what was this? Pity?”

Alex was much angrier than Michael anticipated when he first got involved. The trouble was, it definitely wasn’t pity, it was the fact that he couldn’t stand to see Alex hurt, even if he could have handled it in the long run. Even if that meant being in his orbit again for one night.

Just because they weren’t together, just because Alex was ashamed of him, didn’t mean Michael’s feelings had magically gone away. They hadn’t gone away in the ten years they hadn’t seen one another, so it was going to take time now and Michael wasn’t even sure how long before he could really be over Alex. Probably never.

He took a step toward Alex. “Oh, come on! It wasn’t pity!” Michael was frustrated, couldn’t Alex leave well enough alone?

“Well, I don’t need you playing hero for me. Not anymore. You made it clear that we weren’t going to do this anymore yet here you are.” Alex said, his voice getting thicker with emotion with every sentence.

“Look. I just lent a hand. You needed backup, I provided it. Can’t you say thank you and move on?” Michael was losing his temper which was the last thing he wanted to do.

Alex took a step toward him, anger sparking in those deep dark eyes of his. “Thank you?”

“Yeah, it’s the polite response,” Michael said getting right up in Alex’s face.

“I can’t believe you, Guerin. After all this time you still have no boundaries.” Alex accused.

“You don’t have any either, look at you!” Michael shot back.

They stared at each other for a moment and then they were kissing. It didn’t last long, but it was hard and desperate. There was too much of a chance that they’d be seen and as much as Michael wished that wasn’t an issue, he knew it still was.

For the Malex prompts, how about after they get Alex back, Michael is very protective/careful around him and it annoys Alex. I can totally see them doing that!

Gotta Get Some Space

“I don’t need dinner in bed. I can get up and come to the table.” Alex said the moment Michael came through the bedroom door with a tray of food.

“You’re in here on your laptop already, I thought it would be easier,” Michael replied with a shrug. He laid the tray next to Alex and sat down.

Alex shook his head at him. “You did not. You think I should stay in bed and rest because the doctor said, take it easy, but Michael he didn’t say I was on bed rest. I was just in here because this happened to be where I was charging my laptop and I was too lazy to carry it back out to the living room.” 

“You’ve only been out of the hospital for a day and a half and you’ve only been in this dimension again for a week. I think I’m allowed to be concerned.” Michael told him.

Alex couldn’t exactly argue with that so he ate his grilled cheese and tomato soup and didn’t complain any further. Besides, it was kind of nice to be looked after.

As it turned out it was only nice being looked after for a short time period. Alex was independent. He was used to doing things for himself, by himself, and while he’d made some adjustments having Michael in his life again, he couldn’t quite take the constant hovering that Michael seemed to be doing now.

Do you need a refill, can I get you anything before I sit down, do you need another pillow, or another blanket, are you too warm? The list was endless and it was starting to drive Alex out of his mind. He was trying so hard to be kind about it because he knew how he’d feel if their situations had been reversed, but it was getting old and fast.

Two days later, Alex was watching tv and when he went to get up to go to the bathroom he stumbled slightly because the edge of the blanket Michael had wrapped around him was caught under his shoe. Michael was immediately in his space helping to steady him.

“Okay, that’s it. I can’t take it. You need to leave.” Alex said firmly. He pushed Michael’s hands off of him as gently as he could and stood up.  The hurt look on Michael’s face was enough to soften him a little, but not fully.

“Leave? What are you talking about? Are you… is this… do you want to break up with me?” Michael stammered.

Alex sighed and shook his head with a small smile. “I’m not trying to break up with you, I’m trying to take a break from you and you need a break from me whether or not you’ll admit it. Go to the store, go visit Iz, go see if any cars need fixing, I don’t care what you do but please for the sake of our relationship, go.” 

“Okay, fine. I’ll go, but if anything happens—”

“I’ll call you right after 911.” Alex promised.

“If you’re sure.” Michael said picking up his jacket and hat.

Alex nodded firmly. “I am.”

When Michael got back, Alex felt a lot more calm about everything. He’d made dinner, taken a shower, and even shaved all by himself and while it was nice, in the end he’d missed his overprotective cowboy.

“Everything go okay?” Michael asked as he entered the room slowly, hands held up.

Alex laughed from the kitchen. “Yes, yes, you come in peace, I get it. Everything went fine, but I’m glad you’re back.” Alex admitted.

Michael joined him in the kitchen admiring his handiwork. It was simple enough, spaghetti with meatballs and a salad, but Michael looked happy all the same which pleased Alex. He leaned over and pulled Michael’s hat off slowly and set it on the counter. 

“I’m glad I’m back too. And I’m sorry for all the hovering. I can do better.” Michael promised as Alex was leaning in for a kiss.

“You can hover a little.” Alex told him and then he kissed Michael soft and long.

Michael did still try and do things for Alex that he could do on his own, but Alex learned to take it in stride and Michael learned to ask first. Together they worked it out and in the end that was all Alex wanted in the first place. Soon, he would no longer be in any type of recovery and they could just get down to the business of living together and learning each other.
