Waking up to your friend in the middle of the night was not something Dipsy expected. Though the urgentness of her shaking him and her voice slightly worried grabbed his attention. He could just tell something was off "Dipsy! Someone broke the custard machine and both Tinky AND Po aren't here, we need to go find him!" After some small grumbling and rubbing his eyes he nodded and stumbled out of bed "Of course they are our friends, how long have they been gone?" He stood up and looked at his yellow friend, she sighed softly and looked down "I don't know" Dipsy patted her shoulder "Don't worry we will find them, grab your camera. I'll get the flashlights." LaaLaa nodded and went to her bed while Dipsy headed to where the closet is, he opened the door and stepped inside. He looked around the cold room muttering "flashlights.. Flashlights.. Aha!" He grabbed two common flashlights and left the closet, as he stepped and shut the door he started to speak "Hey LaaLaa I can't believe these dinky lil things work still the entire room is gathering dust." LaaLaa giggled as she heard his footsteps approaching "well NooNoo did say this place is old and he found all of the stuff." Dipsy nodded as LaaLaa stood up putting the strap of her camera around her neck, she suddenly froze and stared "What, it looks like you've seen a monster LaaLaa." He waved her hand in front of her and she threw him to the side causing her to get hit with Tinkys fists, she fell over and Tinky growled as he picked her up by her neck. She whimpered and squirmed "T-Tinky..." Dipsy got up and grabbed a flashlight he muttered "I'm so sorry.." He used his full force to hit Tinky in the back of the head, it made him stagger and let go of LaaLaa but he turned his head in almost an impossible angle with a smile, custard and blood dripped out of his mouth through his teeth. Dipsy backed up and Tinkys body soon turned after to go in for another attack but that didn't happen thanks to LaaLaa throwing a fire extinguisher at him so they have long enough to run, she grabbed Dipsys arm and ran out of the house with while holding her camera, Dipsy held the flashlight and the two were panting "We got to find Po!" "Hey look!! It's NooNoo!!" The two stopped running and looked at him "Oh hey you two." Dipsy looked at him worriedly "NooNoo Tinky has gone nuts! We got to find Po and get out of here!" NooNoo looked at the two "oh that wont be necessary." NooNoo said and the figure appeared behind NooNoo, Dipsy held the flashlight "Why? Where is Po?" "Don't you understand, its safe here-" Dipsy interrupted him "No its not! Where is Po-" there was a loud gunshot and Dipsy cried out in pain and fell to the ground. LaaLaa knelt down and helped him sit up "What the Heck!?!?!" LaaLaa shouted and held Dipsy close to her "its just how it is. Its safe here and you should have listened." The two got up and LaaLaa looked behind them, she looked at NooNoo and pulled Dipsy and herself out of the way, Tinky ran at them and pinned the figure down and proceeded to attack them. This gave LaaLaa and Dipsy a chance to run.

Until they got to the cave "LaaLaa please slow down we have to go back!" She looked at him "We cant, we have to get out of here." Dipsy pushed her "We can't not without Po!" LaaLaa sighed and nodded "Alright lets go." The two began there search across the main land frantically. That is. Until they found her. As LaaLaa was holding Dipsys arm and the two walked together they came across a large tree, it was tall and looked to be grey and almost dead. There was the sound of rope or at least what would be a rope being pulled or moving, that’s when there was a loud scream, LaaLaa fell to her knees as tears welled up in her eyes until her warm tears were pouring constantly down off of her cheeks. Dipsy stared unsure how to react that is until there was soft coughing. “H-Help Someone.” The voice was soft and weak just barely cracking through, this made Dipsy spring into action and climb the tree to untie Po. LaaLaa got up to try and help before she saw Tinky appear, he was ready to climb the tree and was holding a knife in hand, LaaLaa couldn’t just let this stand so she ran and tackled Tinky as best as she could trying to grab the knife “I-I wont let you hurt them Tinky! This isn’t you!” Still crying her vision was partially blurred, using this to his advantage Tinky with just his strength alone pulled the knife from her grasp and he tried to stab her eye, luckily he kind of missed, sort of, he slashed her eye and a bit above and below it. This made her recoil and whimper in pain but Tinky didn’t care as he got up and pulled her to her feet by her neck and slammed her against the tree making a soft crack sound. “Dipsy! Hurry up!” LaaLaa cried out hastily before she noticed Tinky raising the knife to her, she grabbed his hand and struggled against him to make sure she didn't get stabbed. “Got it!” Dipsy exclaimed and there was a soft thud, after that Tinky ran off for no reason and LaaLaa held her eye and staggered over to Po as Dipsy climbed down off the tree and ran over. “Po!” The two sat over Po and LaaLaa was trying to shake her awake “Po?.” she worriedly muttered and there was a point when LaaLaa and Dipsy stared at each other. after some time Po started weakly coughing and LaaLaa lifted Po’s head up, the small red tubby managed to open her eyes. “LaaLaa... Dipsy?” she smiled softly “Yeah we are here Po!” Dipsy exclaimed and Po teared up and didnt stop smiling. At least until that smile turned sour and she could only mutter “D-Dipsy.. Behind-” but it was too late. Dipsy was pulled up by his antenna and had his back stepped on by Tinky. LaaLaa without any time to react saw something even she never expected to see, with the pressure on Dipsy’s back against the ground and Tinky pulling his head by his antenna there was a loud blood gurgling scream with a group of loud snaps before Tinky pulled Dipsys head off with a bit of his spine too. LaaLaa knew she had to leave, she kissed Po’s head and Po hadn’t stopped smiling. “Everything will be okay Po, ill see you later okay!! We can go scooter riding down the paths again.” Po nodded and peacefully closed her eyes, LaaLaa immediately got up and ran as fast as she could to the cave. Though just before she could see it she was tackled and it started. Tinky was mercilessly attacking LaaLaa and she was trying her best to take it or defend herself. Meanwhile with Guardian and Lee Lee and Guardian were walking out of a training gym room and Lee giggled “Man it’s always more fun training with you than it is with Connor and Dutch or even Miles!” Guardian ruffled her hair as they strolled back to the security room “Well unlike Miles I am not grumpy and I keep my training fair.” the two happily chatted before walking into the security room. Lee got in first and sat down in Guardians chair and spun a bit until she saw the cameras. “Guardian....” she said worriedly “Yes?” he replied casually “we got a problem.” he walked over and put his arm on the back of the chair and leaned forward a bit to see the camera “oh my..” Lee looked up at him “what do we do?” he took a second to think. “You stay here, I am going to go up there and see whats up,” he left the room frantically to the storage vault. He grabbed his night vision camera, a backpack with a custard bowl holster,and his trusty weapon, a machete. ‘Silent and Deadly’ is his reasoning as to why. He stepped into the security room “You stay in here, do NOT let anyone in except me and don’t leave.” Lee knowing following orders is safest nodded “good.” Guardian added and ran down the halls to the ladder, he was climbing up the ladder slowly and he slowly opened the hatch. Guardian poked his head up and looked around “Well night time fantastic.” he muttered and pulled himself up, once he was up he closed the hatch before starting his run through main land. Eventually he made it to where he last saw Tinky and LaaLaa and there was nothing there but blood and a custard put off to the side. Guardian picked it up and put it in the holster “Custard? Why is there custard? Oh well. I might as well collect these before anyone eats these.” he stated and saw another custard. This distracted Guardian and he spent the next half an hour collecting all of the custards. Once he was done he remembered what he was doing and ran towards the nearest exit of the main land “I'm sure she would try and leave!” he said to himself and once he slowed his walking his path split into two. Summary: Jon is out of his mind with worry, trying to busy himself as his wife labours their baby into the world... They've been trying so long, and they had once thought it would not happen.

Notes: As you know, I am taking part in a challenge on tumblr by user 'JonerysFic' and 'MhysaOfDragons' in which for seven days from Valentines day I am uploading a new one shot. The prompts have been provided and the stories have all been written and I gotta say you're in for a lot of Jonerys content. So Day 7, the last day, 20th February, which is when I'm uploading this, the prompt I chose was 'Free Choice'. So I got thinking and decided to expand on my glorious reign series and give you the birth of their first child, Lyanna.

Jon was going crazy.

Waiting for the arrival of his and Dany’s child had left him drinking with Tyrion in the hands quarter as a promise to Dany that he’d stay away while she laboured their baby. All of the dogs in King’s Landing were howling, due to the storm that had captured the city and by extension scared the inhabitants into staying inside. Lighting and rain, flashing and fierce. There had been four storms since he and Dany assumed the throne five years ago, but this had by far been the worse. Ironic that their child would also be known as Stormborn like it’s mother, but that also left deep rooted fear within Jon himself.

He wondered if she would survive, after all both of their mother’s had perished when giving birth to them, although Sam was dealing with her, the only person he trusted. But there was still this nagging feeling of fear within him that meant he was on edge and pacing the hands chambers all the while it was going on. He could stand on the Balcony and see their chambers from it, but he wouldn’t know what was happening.

They’d lost a babe already, after the first time they’d made love on the boat from dragonstone to White Harbour, Dany’s bleeding had not arrived. They didn’t count their chickens before they hatched, both of them knowing what happened to her last babe, but when her belly had began to swell with life they were joyous. Jon requested they not tell anyone, as only Missandei, Sam and themselves knew at that moment. But about ten weeks after the conception, Dany bled hard and the babe was lost.

She’d cried for weeks in private with him, they’d shared his chambers and it had been heart-wrenching to see her suffer. She put on a smile for the lords of Winterfell, and when they’d caught her crying she’d always played it off as the lose of her Dragon, which in a sense was also her child. So when her belly had become swollen once again six months ago, they’d been very joyous yet extremely cautious. Jon had not let her do anything, she was to relax for the first few months, must to her annoyance.

And now, she was in labour, a month early.

To make matters worse, Lord Baratheon and Lady Stark (Jon’s sister) had sprung upon them a surprise visit, which meant they too were in the hands chambers, drinking with him as the entertainment Tyrion had quickly thrown together for the visiting family got cut short. Daenerys was in the middle of giving a speech when she’d gushed on the floor and began to feel light headed.

She was early, and this was all the more reason Jon was worried. The chances of both of them surviving was very small, but he’d hoped that she had, they both had. If she was to go… Jon couldn’t even bare to think about it, he loved her so hopelessly that the even consideration that Daenerys Targaryen, his wife, his queen, would never see him again, would never look at him with those eyes, was completely consuming him

“Stop pacing, you idiot” Arya grumbled, fiddling with a knife, twisting it between her fingers. The Valyrian blade that Bran had bestowed upon her all those years ago, before he’s met his end… Jon shook his head and did as he was told. He may be the king, but when Ayra said to do something, he listened without question.

“It’s natural to be fearful, Your Grace” Tyrion countered, pouring red wine into his goblet and almost downing it instantly. “But I can assure you she’s in very good hands”

Jon knew she was, Sam had delivered several babies now including that of his sister, Sansa’s two children with her husband up in the north. He may be Lord of Horn Hill, but he also was their maester, and Jon trusted him more than anyone else besides Daenerys.

“Perhaps we can do something to take your mind off of everything, Your Grace?” Gendry offered. Nothing would take Jon’s mind off of it, he knew as such, but he took the bate and sat down at the table with the other three. “Are there any pressing issues that need resolving in the city?”

“We’ve been dealing with a speight of theft in flea bottom” Jon shrugs, reminding himself that flea bottom needs to be renamed as it wasn’t the hive of poverty it had once been in the era of the Lannisters rule. Jon and Dany had more than enough comforts here in the Red Keep that he’d make monthly donations of food and clothes that were worn by servants down to them and handed them out personally.

“Okay, let’s focus on that then”

It worked for maybe twenty minutes, until Jon swore he heard screaming all the way across the Red Keep. He knows he didn’t, it was more than likely his mind playing tricks on him, but still, it was enough to stop him from wanting to commit to the City’s issues and think about her instead.

He didn’t pray to the old gods, after all he’s seen in the world he doubted any god’s existence anymore, but he did pray to Sam’s ability that he’d keep her alive, both of them. He should’ve ignored Dany, stayed with her until the end, but it had been hours and she’d begged him to go until it was done. He wouldn’t if it was a case of not wanting to seem weak, or not wanting to see the birth, or perhaps if she did pass, she didn’t want him to see it in front of his eyes.

Whatever her reasons, it was a decision that was driving him crazy and fearful and almost alone.

“Sansa has birthed two children, both of which were successfully delivered by Sam, stop having a crisis you’ll look like you’re supposed to be celebrating your fiftieth name day” Arya was growing impatient and Jon did not blame her in the slightest, but had they known about the baby they lost, then perhaps she’d know why he was frightened for his Queen.

Sansa knew now, shortly after the war and her engagement and subsequent wedding to Gawen of House Glover, she’d come to Jon about bleeding heavily and unsure of anyone to turn too. She’d suffered a miscarriage and it had affected her mentally. Jon had offered comfort and told her the story of her and Dany losing one and from that moment, Sansa had dealt with the issue better.

“I’m her husband, she’s my Queen, let me worry” Jon sighs, thinking back to the times in which his worries were the living dead killing all of men-kind.

So much had changed and so much was still to change now that he and Daenerys were to become parents. The capital had been so happy at the news of their King and Queen welcoming a child soon, and thankfully, the other lords in the kingdom had too. Jon had struggled with it on some occasions. A child was something Jon had always wanted but never envisioned he would have when he was serving on the wall, but something that had come true and very shortly, he’d have to be a father.

Would he be a good one?

“Your Grace” Jon hears behind him and so he turns to note several guardsmen and Sam, the Maester and man he trusted amongst everyone else. He was covered in blood, as was to be expected after delivering a baby, but his appearance still filled him with dread.

“Is everything alright?” Tyrion is the first one to speak.

“Mother and babe are both alright” Sam nods and Jon almost wants to fall to his knees. The relief that over spills in his body is almost too much to handle. He doesn’t know whether to sit down, to run to Dany’s side, to kiss Sam even. “The Queen has lost a lot of blood however, so she needs to rest up for a few weeks, eat plenty and drink lots of water to get her up and running again” Sam takes a small pause. “It’s a girl”

Arya squeals piercingly into the air and yet Jon isn’t affected by it, he’s just shocked, his entire system falling apart as he imagines a small girl in his arms. A girl, a little daughter to call my own, our beautiful miracle, our beloved angel . Jon needs to see them both, he need to hold her in her arms and look at the beautiful life he and Dany created together.

“Can I seem them?” Jon ask, knowing that even if Sam said know he’d still go anyways. Sam just nods and that’s all Jon needs to start a quick pace towards his own bedchambers.

The halls are quiet when he leaves Tyrion’s chambers, only guardsmen with smiles on their faces as Jon feels glee and anticipation build in his chest. He follows the way to his chambers that he was so familiar with at this point, seeing servants cleaning and clearing stuff away, seeing cats up on the balcony, seeing the steps to their space. She was there, his little princess was waiting for him, and his queen too.

When he reached the door to his chambers, he was greeted by Missandei who was holding sheets covered in blood, she was smiling brightly when her eyes connected with Dany’s. Clearly happy both the Queen and the girl were okay. She gleefully grins before heading off in the direction Jon came from, leaving him to open the door.

The sound he was greeted with was like music to his eyes, a soft gurgling and a sweet song that melted away every fear in his body. He did not know the song, he thinks perhaps she made it up, but her voice is tunely and melodic and the happiness that was radiating from it was enough to send Jon wild. He sees them then, Dany, sat up in the bed with a small clothed babe in her arms. Jon, in an instant, is at her side.

“Stars above” Jon whispers as Dany kisses him on the cheek. “She’s absolutely perfect”

As he looked at her, he notices she has been born with a thick head full of hair, black hair like his own and a little bit all over the place. Her eyes however, magnificently violet and delightfully wild. Jon knows the babe can’t see them both yet, but she was content just being in her mother’s arm.

“I’m glad you’re here” Dany sighed, Jon knew she was tired. “She needs to hear her Father speak to her”

She passed him over and for what felt like hours, Jon just held her in his arms and looked at her. She was the most perfect creation that has ever been because of him. He loved her with every drop of blood in his veins, every breath in his lungs and ever word in his mouth. He whispered to her, promised her that he would protect her until his last breath, love her until he could not any longer and he even shed tears. He was sensitive in the moment but he did not care.

She was a dream.

“I want to call her Lyanna” He says out of nowhere, not having heard anything Dany had said, just cut off from it all as he stared at the perfect babe in his arms. “I think my mother deserves that” He stated. After everything his own mother went through, everything she and his real father gave up for him, and after wanting to know about her and finally finding out the truth, Jon felt sure that was the little babe in his arms name. “If that’s okay with you”

“Little Lyanna Targaryen” She sighs, sleep wanting to take his wife over. She was now laying down, hoping to get a moment of sleep. Jon did not mind, it meant he got to hold his babe for longer. Little Lyanna Targaryen, it was. “I like it, then if we have another one, we’ll call him Robb”

If we have another one, we’ll call him Robb.

Jon liked the idea, but they had everything they needed for now. Him, his queen and their beautiful Princess Lyanna. A life Jon never envisioned, but one he was grateful of nonetheless.

I finally made a little ref sheet for my Au boy? maybe a Linksona at this point? But I finally made it so ooooooh booooy

I was really shy about making this, I just wanted to get some thoughts down about him and well I didnt say everything about him because I kinda wanna make a comic about him, a real long one and so there is some misc info in that text block and some thats not..? sorry I hope someone enjoys this giant mess of an info dump （*´▽｀*）

Because of his insomnia he can usually be found sleeping outside a little ways away from his house, just walk around in the tall grass until the random encounter pops up.

He’s actually very shy about how tall he is, it makes snuggling a problem because he always wants to be the little spoon and he is a very big boy

His cloak is all purpose, keeps him warm, keeps him cool, uses it as a blanket and an umbrella, its got a little hood to it too and it makes him (supposedly) look cool when paired with his Keaton mask

he uh....he really likes animals, he thinks cuccos are pretty cute and sometimes naps in the coop with them, he wakes up surounded by eggs and covered in feathers

Actually his favorite is Horses, while living in the forest Mido and the rest of the Kokiri would scavenge for stuff outsiders dropped and once they found a book on horse care, even though he couldent read it Timie got really excited about the idea of horses, you don’t understand how hard he screamed when he came across Lon Lon Ranch

He also has a softspot for Dragons

When I said in denial carnivore I ment OMNIVORE, he gets spooked by meat and gets sick when he has anything beef related, its probably because he’s just not used to it, cucco is usually a no because he claims he “can’t eat cute things” which is a flat out lie, he thinks pigs are cute but would eat a ham samwitch anytime

.....also he eats monster parts so....octorock tentacle soup is a thing, turns out he can eat them because of the triforce of courage (for anyone that has followed my main and seen Naga, he ccan do the same thing, the triforce of courage needs more ablities other than makes the posessor brave, even if its just dumb stuff scdvfbg)

He sits around on his roof and plays that Ocarina whenever he feels, if he was better at reading sheet music he would of become a musician instead of a jack of all trades master of absolutly nothing he does

So not being good at things lemme just say real fast he can’t use magic outside his crystals, if he tries to use magic naturally he will get a bad headache and worse, the only thing he has been able to do so far is light a candle and collapse

Did I mention he’s a fast learner? from what happened in oot and mm he usually never makes the same mistake twice

The boy is a solar panel! Timie falls asleep outside so much not because he just randomly falls asleep, but because he likes the feel of the sun’s warmth, also possibly it’s just that he believed he was a plant once and just wanted to be a normal Kokiri who did the photosynthesis so it’s just become a force of habit to sleep in a sunny area

His first pet was Volvagia, not the REAL Ancient Dragon Volvagia but it’s baby, turns out dragon eggs can delay hatching and stay viable for long periods of time until put in fire, like brine shrimp eggs until put into water. (And yes I’m still salty they never did much with Volvagia in the offical manga excapt for the saddest mOMENT but they didn’t do ANYTHING about expanding the backstory and never even showed it in the first few chapters??? https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RememberTheNewGuy G O S H)

Timie still calls Saria mom and goes to her for advise on almost everything

So he has two kids wow what a dad two kids wow, he absolutly adores his babies and would die for them, Aya is his daughter she’s 6 and his son Leif is 3, when Aya was born he couldent be seperated from her seriously he just wanted to hold her all day he was crying actually wait more like sobbing he couldent believe it.

He did the same thing with Leif, but there was more spooked sobbing.

Also Leif’s name was Weif at first, it was because of the stupid sneezes he was making and since the waifu for laifu wasn’t awake. . .

You see that Sheikah I like to draw? the one with the high cheekbones and the dumb hair named Arn? That who Timie’s boyfriend was, i’m not gonna say much else because I wanna write something and I will spoil a LOT of shit of I say anything super specific

BUT, I can say that Timie did get his Keaton mask and the uge to braid his hair from Arn so do what you want with that information?

For some reason Timie never uses shields anymore? He never seems to take it out anymore and it might have to do with that he realized he was using it less and less during the events of Majora’s Mask

Speaking of Majora’s Mask, Tatl started to give him a bunch of nicknames like greenie, time guy, sourpuss, stone face, music dude, man of the hours, lord of all wibbily wobbily time shenanigans, or just straight up calling him a bitch....Timie was one of the more nicer ones and he took a liking to it, it’s unknown WHY he started to call himself that

Did I mention his figure is a pun kinda???? maybe not a pun but a really bad joke can you guess what it is????

One last thing: Timie clings to others for guidance and emotional support because he lacks stability while he’s alone. Navi leaving was one of the worst moments in his life, right behind losing the Deku Tree. Timie's last boyfriend leaving took a serious emotional toll on him, as Timie genuinely saw as an anchor. He has some difficulty functioning normally when he can't be around the person he loves. It's not like he'll get weird and uncomfortable when he’s going to get groceries, but when there's no way he can be around them for months.

When traveling alone he wears his keaton mask; not because of symbolism or something, but because it makes him look cool. Realize though, when I say he doesn't function normally, his personality ends up changing. He has a fake confidence to him and becomes like...? A trickster type, or something. He might also snatch up your rupees because he needs food. Don’t say you’ll kick his ass, because he’ll threaten to eat your fingers. It’s real easy to get him to stop doing this kind of BS, though. Call his bluff and he’ll shrivel up back into the big baby he is and will probably go home (even if he’ll be lonely there).

Today was a little hard if only because I slept so poorly. After I got my post up last night I was pretty tired. James was supposed to come and help me bring things up from the basement. But he had a customer stay really late. So he didn't get to me until closer to 1.

I was half asleep by the time he got home. But as soon as he gave me a hug and told me everything would be okay. I just fell apart. At first I was just misty eyed. But soon enough I was sobbing so hard I was choking myself. I couldnt breathe and was so stuffed up and my head hurt so bad. I had to have been a scary sight. I was just so tired and so upset. Eventually I cried myself out. And I almost passed out sitting there. I wasn't as stuffy though and was able to lay down without feeling like I was drowning.

I had bad dreams but I did sleep Okay. Even if it wasn't enough sleep. I half considered calling out. But I knew I needed the distraction of work. We stayed in bed a little to long. But it was all good. James brought up more stuff for me from the studio. And he went to grt me breakfast while I went to the ship.

And it was a really fun day overall. I started the day inside. I worked on my book chapter. Everything atarted weird though because the shop girl just didnt show up for a while. So we let 5 people in for free. They would pay when they left because they were good people. And I got to talk to a lot of nice people.

I put the flag up all on my own. And I worked in my embrodiery. We have a visiting ship, La Libertad. Its from Argentina and its huge and beautiful. I enjoyed watching them polish the brasswork.

It was a beautiful day. Its the first day of fall and I just love that. There was a little breeze and everything felt good. I was still stressed in the background but I know everything will be handled.

Jess who I work with came over to look through my paintings and she decided to buy 8. 8??!! That amazing. So we talked about the art for a while. And it was fun sharing with everyone. I was very excited about the sales and worked on the spreadsheet and texted with James a out expanding it a bit. I was feeling good.

I took myself to Johnny Rocket for lunch. Haf a sit down meal. Got a salad and a sandwich and it made me feel much better. My eyes weren't as swollen and it wad good to have lettuce.

I gave the gun drill talk and it went so well. The 4 people who came were so into it and I felt so smart. It was an awesome feeling. I was still a little anxious about stuff but I had my squishy frog and was playing with that all day. I was throwing it and sqeezing it. And one of the times I threw it it landed in a hole in the hatch and I thought that was hilarious.

I talked to a lot of great people today. Including a couple from my parents old neighborhood who's kid is an artist and thinking aboit art school and wanted to ask me all the questions. I got to talk about the ship a ton. I met an old coast guard guy and he was lovely and complimented my embroidery. I had just so many positive interactions today and that was just so nice.

Frank's firing at 4 was so so big. Birds went everywhere. People were screaming and yelling fuck. It was amazing. And we closed early today so soon enough we were done.

I went and laid in a hammock for a while. Enjoyed swinging. Got changed. And went to sit at the desk for a while to wait out the clock.

I showed Frank my art and read on my phone. And then it was time to go home. There was work to be done.

I spent a couple hours bringing tbings up and organzing it up here so I can feel a little more normal in my space. I movdd pretty much everuthing I could to the hallway. I dont love it but I also don't use the hall much. Its just holding James's bookcase anyway. So all my stuff is on that now. On my way home I found 2 smaller plastic bins. I cleaned those and used then to hold all my products from the downstairs bathroom and put them on the upstairs one. I got almost everything out of there. Just the closet and my 3 drawer organziers. The chairs and the table will have to wait I guess. I'm giving james the arm chair for his apartment anyway. So I wont have to worry about that once he moves on Friday.

I am still stressed but I'm trying. I took a bath. Which helped. The water was cool and perfect. After I got dressed I finished my diorama and did more organizing snd cleaning. Until my back hurt and I had to eat something.

I had pizza around 9 and now I'm laying down watching true crime. I'm very excited to sleep.

James is on an overnight right now. He's coming over after in the morning and then were going to have a spa day and nake pumpkin things. I have apprehension about pumpkin ravioli but I trust him.

Keep those good thoughts coming. I'm tryinf my best to handle everything here. But its hard.

Wednesday was glow worm day!

We took the 3.5 hour drive from Stanyon Bay to the Waitomo district. Waitomo means “water cave” so this area is popular for the cave systems and hot springs.

We took the Glowing Adventures tour. I chose this one over the more commercialized ones because it’s all family run on their property. We start off with the safety video and then they give us clothes to change into. The pictures tell it all! Striped thermal pants and Hanley shirts with shorts over the pants, and a fleece sweatshirt. Marcus said we looked like “ where’s Waldo”! Top that off with our helmets and lights and we were off to the caves. Now when you say “tour”, you think walk. They did describe the tour as a moderate activity... well they didn’t say we’d be rock climbing!

We had to walk down into the valley where we then entered the cave system. There’s water traversing trough the caves, at times rushing water even though they Haven’t had rain for a little while since it’s there somewhere. When you enter the cave it’s really eerie because you’re leaving the lake and you’re going into darkness with stalagmites and stalactites all around. Some Of the formations actually look like statues or sculptures of things like crocodile, jellyfish, and even a Walrus! The lime formations were spectacular. At one point, this whole mountainous area was under water so we saw shell fossils in the rocks. The family did not excavate a path through the cave systems so we literally had to climb through gaps between rocks, over rocks, under rocks, and through streaming water. We had boots on but water still came over the top. We had animal fiends also say hi to us much to Marcus glee! The waters have eels swimming about and we saw 3eels that I prayed wouldn’t slither into my boots. The guys took their go pros but it was so dark they couldn’t Film the glow worms. When we got to THE spot, the guide had us turn off our lights and just sit to let our eyes adjust. Little by little the glow worms became more evident and soon we were looking up at a “sky full of stars” WOW what a site. With the stalagmites on the ceiling of the caves and the lights from the glow worms, it felt like we were under a canopy in the forest. To think that glow worms are just maggots in their larvae stage that light up somehow is fascinating! They gestate for months but when they hatch they only live for 3 days because their mouths aren’t functioning. What a sad life but they provide such a beautiful site for a little while.

Well we hiked down so we had to hike out and up the mountain. Many, many steps! Marcus was trying to think of a system that would take us out w/ o the climb as we were all huffing and puffing! At the top we stripped off and had tea, water and cookies. They had passion fruit plants all over so they cut into a fresh one for me to try- tart tasting- good but unexpected taste

We had to check in at our ranch hotel in Karapiro, about 1 hour away in the mountains. Beautiful property overlooking a valley with horses and cows and sheep ! The family’s 4 dogs roamed the hillsides without a worry about predators because in NZ , there are no coyotes, wolves, or foxes per Marcus. We did see a hawk - like bird so the little dogs beware!

By this time it was 7pm and we were starving. We drove into Cambridge town and had dinner a a pub. Great food- the best meal in nZ except for when Keith cooked the mussels! Rib eye, fish n chips, Asian pork belly salad, and date brapead pudding with caramel sauce! Check out the beer glass!

Baby Sleep Newborn to 5 Months

Today I am sharing our sleep journey with Otis. Let me start by saying that so many of you requested this post and as always, I am sharing our journey with Otis, how his sleep evolved and what worked for us. Each of our little babies are so different so keep in mind what works for one baby and mama doesn’t work for another. Otis has always been a pretty good sleeper from the beginning. I think it is a combination of him just being a good little sleeper and the fact that we were pretty consistent creating good sleep habits from very early on. Otis is 3.5 months in these photos!

Creating a bedtime routine So this might sound a bit intimidating but it’s as easy as just doing a few things to set the mood for sleep. We would dim the lights 1 hour before bedtime, diaper change, swaddle, read a book, offer pacifier, and soothe him before laying him down to go to sleep at night. You might think creating a routine is silly but I think was super helpful since newborns don’t know day from night sleep and this was pretty helpful to regulate his internal clock to the “real world” outside the womb. I will also be honest with you, some nights, we would not read the book, some night you forget to turn the lights down. That is ok! You do your best to be as consistent as you can.

Read a book: It’s amazing how much little ones soak up visually and just listening to our voices. It also creates some great family time for all of us to sit together and enjoy this moment in the evening.

Swaddle: I can’t tell you how much we loved swaddling Otis. At first, they fight it, big time. I feel like most babies fight the swaddle and but in the end, it helps them to calm down and keep their little arms from waking them up because of the startle reflex. This was also a great step in our sleep routines. The swaddle would signify sleep. Our favorite was from Ollie.

Turn off the lights: Since Otis was sleeping in multiple places when he was a tiny newborn, no matter what room we were in, if it was night time sleep we would dim the lights.

Use white noise: For most naps during the day, if he was not in his snoo, we used this hushh portable noise machine. If he was napping while we were out in his car seat we would also use this sound machine. We own of two of them and always keep the second one charged. For night sleep, the Snoo has built in white noise so we used just that while he was in there. Once Otis moved to his crib, we use the hatch nightlight sound machine. The white noise works so well to sooth him, set the mood for sleep, and keep him sleeping.

Use the pacifier: Otis has always soothed himself through sucking so the pacifier has been a really great tool for us (I am not looking forward to the day we have to get rid of it!). When he was little we used the wubbanub but found it would easily fall out of his mouth and we had to keep replacing it. We eventually started using the avent pacifiers and they stayed in his mouth much better.

Places to Sleep SNOO: I get so many questions to this day on whether the Snoo was worth the money. After fully using it and transitioning out of it, I would 500% recommend this to a new mama that is on the fence about it! We used the Snoo mostly at night until he got a bit older to start him doing naps. Since Otis was a houdini escape artist with his arms, we always double swaddled him. Meaning we would swaddle him in our Ollie swaddle and then put him in the Snoo sack that attaches into the Snoo. This was a game changer once we started doing this. To put him to sleep the key to success was making sure he was a little bit sleepy, but not totally asleep before putting him in. We put limits on our motions so that it would not go over level 2. We had a rough patch with the Snoo between months 1 and 2 because we were still figuring out how to put Otis to sleep. Once we tried all the tips I explained above, we had success with the Snoo. And then, our night time sleep got AMAZING. All of a sudden one day, I woke up and it had been 6 hours since my last feed. It was a game changer!! I think the other key thing for me was that he was strapped safely on his back so there was never a moment I had to worry about his safety during those hard nights of no sleep. The Snoo is pretty pricey but in my opinion it’s worth every penny if you are able to budget for it. I also love that they just started doing Snoo rentals to make it more affordable and accessible.

Dockatot: I loved the dockatot. It was easy to move it from room to room for naps and even nighttime sleep. On hard nights where Otis was not taking to the Snoo, we would use the dockatot either inside the Snoo bassinet (turned off of course) or on the bed in between us. We tried to not use it in bed at night and mostly just for the last stretch of nap in the morning. What is so great is that it created a really safe barrier around him and kept him nice and cozy and still safely on his back for sleep. So if you are looking for a good co-sleeping solution to keep baby safe, great place for naps, or place for baby to “hang out in” the dockatot would really fit that bill for you. The dockatot came in handy also for traveling. Since he was used to hanging out and napping in it, we could easily bring it to hotels with us and put it in the crib and he would sleep no problem.

Fisher Price Auto Rock n’ Play: This was also another game changer sleep option for Otis. He loved sleeping in this and it was also easy to move from room to room. We used this mostly for naps. We also used this for nighttime sleep right next to our bed when Otis went through his initial tough period with the Snoo. As parents your start getting creative finding ways to help your baby to sleep and this came in handy so many times.

Baby Carriers: Solly Baby, BabyBjorn One Carrier, Colugo were my favorite carriers for baby wearing naps. I used the solly a lot around the house when Otis was a newborn. It was just so soft and light and it didn’t take me very long to get a hang of the wrap job. The BabyBjorn was one of my friend adjustable carriers and it was such a game changer when we were out and about especially when we had a few weekend trips. So nice to keep baby close and not have to worry about re-wrapping my wrap when I am out and about. A newer carrier I am loving is the Colugo carrier. It’s pretty lightweight which is super appealing to me and snaps together just as quickly as the babybjorn. Basically we have a bunch of carriers in our house an alot of time we have one adjusted for Blake and one adjusted for me.

Other Sleep Tools TakingCaraBabies Sleep Course: Being a first time mom, I had no idea what I was doing!! And I am someone that loves to research and read to learn anything and everything I can. I had heard such great things about Cara’s course and decided it was worth it to invest in her newborn course. It was a set of videos as well as a pdf and it gave lots of great tips on setting up good sleep practices for a newborn but without being too rigid and plenty of room for flexibility. Even if you don’t take any of her courses, she gives alot of great tips on her instagram account here. Blake and I actually watched all the videos together (during our many sleepless nights) and it really helped us to be on the same page taking care of Otis and coming up with a plan together.

Otis Sleep Schedule For the first month, there was no schedule. There would be cluster feeds, shorts cat naps. Nothing is set in stone. It’s a bit of a roller coaster that you just have to ride to figure out what your little one needs. While it was unpredictable, Otis did start to get on his own schedule pretty early on after the first month. He was pretty consistently eating every 3 hours so in turn he was also sleeping consistently. The most important things was to watch his wake windows to ensure he stayed awake long enough but not let him get over tired. You can look up what your proper wake window of time needs to be from the start of your feed to when they nap based on the babies age. When they are newborns they aren’t awake for very long and as they get older they stay awake for much longer. This was a big key in getting him to nap and sleep easier. An overtired fussy baby is not easy to put to bed. No fun for anyone.

It was around 2 months that Otis started to sleep 6-8 hours stretches at night in the Snoo and it was the most game changer thing to happen!!! When you are used to only having 3 hours (or less) between feedings when that time doubles and you get to sleep a little bit longer, things just get amazing. You start to finally feel like a new person!! It’s during this time where we started to create some schedules to loosely stick to. We picked 8PM as bedtime and would put him to sleep around then for his bedtime sleep and then we would wake him for a dream feed before 11PM. A dream feed is basically a feeding that is supposed to be given to baby without really waking them up. But more realistically this feeding aligns babies longest chunk of sleep with our own. So we would always go to sleep after Otis had his dream feed. This dream feed worked great for Otis. Once 3 months hit, Otis was in a pretty good schedule. We continued to keep an 8pm bedtime and 7am wake up time.

Below is what his typical day looks like at 3 and at 5 Months. Keep in mind, this is flexible and it never stays on track. But we really try to keep 7AM a hard wake up time. For instance, if he is up at 6:30AM and in his crib chatting and hanging out, we leave him in there until 7 and then go in and wake him up to really reinforce that wake up time for him. Sometimes if he’s too fussy or really hungry we don’t have a choice and have to go get him earlier but we do our best to stick to that.

As far as naps go currently for our little 5 Month old, we are still figuring out what works for him. He is skipping the 3PM nap a lot but usually always needs a nap before bedtime so he is not extremely overtired. Will report back on his nap schedule once it gets a bit more regular for him.

Transitioning out of Swaddle Otis started rolling over (from back to front) at 3 months and then fully rolling both directions (front to back and back to front) at 4 months. That meant one thing… it was time to transition out of the swaddle. I WAS SO SAD!! I came to love the comfort the swaddle gave Otis but once they are rolling it’s time to free their arms so they are able to roll freely in their crib. So around 3 months we started to transition him out.

Since Otis was still sleeping in his snoo, we realized that the medium sized snoo sacks have little snaps at the shoulders so you can swaddle them with their arms out. We started by transitioning Otis to 1 arm out during this night sleep. The best time to test this out is at night when baby is at their sleepiest. So we tried one arm out. It was kind of a disaster. Having his arm out just woke up him and he quickly woke a few hours after going to sleep. So once he woke up, we fully swaddled him again until the morning. Each night, we would swaddle him with 1 arm out and see how long he could sleep before having to swaddle him completely again. This is an easy way to test out the waters and get them used to it slowly. We tried the cold turkey method and it just was NOT for us. He acclimated a lot faster than I would have thought given how rocky the first few days were. After about a week he was sleeping normally again with 1 arm out and we even tried naps with 1 arm out once he was sleeping well at night.

After 1 week, we decided to go for it with 2 arms out of the swaddle. The great thing was that he was still being “hugged” by the sack but his arms were free. Took him only a few days to adjust to 2 arms out of the swaddle. This weaning off the swaddle really worked for Otis. Slow and steady and letting him lead the way.

Transitioning from bassinet (Snoo) to Crib This process scared the living shit out of me. At this point, Otis was still sleeping in his snoo in our bedroom right next to our bed. The idea of moving him out of the snoo AND out of our bedroom just broke my heart. My little man!!!! I wanted him close but honestly it was time for him to be in his crib with his rolling I had to man up and get him prepared for that.

Since he was already used to sleeping arms out in the snoo, I decided to make sure he would be comfortable in his crib to test out some naps in the crib wearing a sleep sack. The sleep sack I sleep him in is from halosleep and I love that it still swaddles his upper body because otherwise he pulls and chews the extra fabric. We monitored him closely over our baby monitor to make sure he was ok rolling in this crib and comfortable in his sleep sack during his daytime naps. Of course there is a learning curve with each new transition but Otis was doing great. After about a week of naps, we were ready to make the jump.

We moved the snoo from our bedroom into his nursery to make the first transition. We let him sleep in his snoo for 2 nights and then decided since his sleep was the same, we would move him to his crib on night 3. I WAS SO NERVOUS. I don’t think Blake and I slept a wink that night. Going from the safety of being clipped into the sides of the snoo to free roaming in a swaddle in this giant crib intimidated me but our little Oats was ready.

On night 3 we laid him to sleep in his crib wearing his sleep sack, closed the door, and hoped for the best. Our eyes were peeled on our monitors all night. I am a bit overboard here and we use both the Nanit (which we have mounted on the corner of our crib until he is standing in crib) and then we have a Nest Cam in the corner of the room that shows the whole nursery. So we were able to check multiple angles of him in the crib. Like I said… overboard. But, you do what you feel comfortable with. I think the scariest thing once they start to roll is that they start to sleep on their stomach and you just worry about whether they can breathe. Blake and I would go in just to put our hands on his back to make sure he was breathing some nights. Also sometimes he would get onto his stomach and just get so frustrated that we would have to still help him roll back over even though he was totally capable of doing it on his own. So there was a transition here of making sure to give him the help when he needed it. He really got the swing of things within a week of transitioning him into the crib. I AM SO PROUD. It’s amazing how these milestones just creep up and all of a sudden, you have this grown up baby, sleeping in their own room. At first, I was so sad… the empty spot where the snoo sat next to my bed, the empty dresser where our changing station used to be. But then Blake reminded me, “Our little Oats is growing up! It’s a time to celebrate his achievements.” He was so right. I am one to get overly sentimental during these changes but he always puts things into perspective that these developments just mean we have a healthy and happy man that is growing and changing and that is a beautiful thing.

Overall, these transitions went pretty well for us. But don’t let that fool you. We still had nights where we woke up multiple times to pop in his paci, roll him over, or help him. Baby sleep is a rollercoaster of ups and downs but I do have to say that Otis is a great little sleeper.

The 4 Month Sleep Regression… that never really happened? So the 4 month sleep regression is a REAL thing. The stories I have heard from some moms… it’s tough on both baby and parents. I think because we were going through so many changes with getting out of the swaddle, getting out of the bassinet, and moving him into his crib that for me, it didn’t seem he regressed with night time sleep at all.

Where I did see a regression was with naps! He was always a great napper until about this time. Even now at 5 months naps are a new challenge for us and we are still learning what he needs. When I say he regressed with naps, he just lost his consistency with them. He used to take nice long naps until this regression and then they became much shorter, he would skip some, and it just made for an overall cranky bedtime since by the end of the day he was really exhausted from the missed nap time. Now that he has hit 5 months, I feel we are getting closer to knowing how many naps he needs during a day and to make sure to watch his sleep cues. Basically his awake windows are much longer now since he is older so it’s important for us to keep him up longer but to also recognize when he is on the edge of being tired but not overtired. I look for his yawns, rubbing his eyes, heavy eyes and his behavior and mood. So we are getting back on track with naps and of course will give you all our experience once we have it figured out!

Weaning the dream feed I get a lot of questions about whether Otis sleeps through the night, which he does! (OTIS YOU ARE AN ANGEL!!!) I was still doing the dream feed through month 4. At this point, I was waking my baby who was dead asleep to give him his dream feed. I mean out. Like I really needed to coax him to wake up to feed him. So one day I thought to myself, what if I don’t wake him up for his dream feed? Will he still sleep till 7am?? I thought it was time to experiment.

My thoughts here was that if he truly needed that 6th feeding of the day, he would eventually wake up again (about 3 hours after his last feeding) and be cranky because he was hungry and needed to eat. So one night I just let him sleep and cut out the dream feed and pumped milk instead. And guess what? HE SLEPT TILL 7am. I decided that it was important to give this a few nights to make sure he wasn’t waking up looking for that additional meal. After 3 nights, he was still sleeping through the night so we decided to fully drop the dream feed. I also eventually dropped the dream pump as well. Because more sleep was key. By the end of the day, even though Otis is sleeping through the night, I am still exhausted and sometimes try to go to sleep when Otis does. Or I pass out on the couch often. Mom life right!?!? It’s nice to be one less feed a day. I just need to watch my boobs since I am SUPER full in the morning now.

Soothing Baby to Sleep So at this point, we haven’t started sleep training Otis officially. But, we have been practicing good sleep practices since birth so I think it’s all helped him on the way to being a good little sleeper. We noticed that Otis would soothe himself to sleep pretty easily so once we noticed that, we tried to keep encouraging it by putting him in crib awake, offering his pacifier, putting our hand on his chest with a little love, and then leaving the room immediately. It’s amazing to see that sometimes he just puts himself right to sleep. There are other times that we need to go in, quickly replace his pacifier, and then quickly leave the room. We try to keep our intervening to a minimal.

We try not to rock him to sleep in our arms unless he’s unusually fussy. I think with all the transitions with learning to wear his helmet and going through leaps and growth spurts that we have been having to rock him a bit more recently but overall, we try to let him put himself to sleep. Like I said, we haven’t started any formal sleep training yet but when we do, I will let you know how it goes! I think having the patience to sit through a crying baby is really hard. But it’s clear that he can put himself to sleep. A lot of times in the night, he will sleep cry and even if you go check in, his eyes are completely shut and he cries out in his sleep and then goes back to bed. I didn’t know that baby can “sleep cry” but it’s a thing! Wild.

Im so happy to hear that Let's Go is indeed INTENTIONALLY designed to be "more casual" and everything these super anti-casual conpetitive players are complaining about was intentionalky put in there cos the developers legit think its better. THANK YOU!

i dunno man it just seems like we NEVER heae about the developers doing anything for the fans unless its enablibg competitive play or iv breeding or whatever. Like those are the only definitions of "fans" that interviewers seem to care about. And Its hard to know what the developers really think when the questions that are asked leave out a huge componant of the fanbase, yknow?

And uhh.. I mean its just good to specificially know that theyre okay with casual fans existing, like not just "its for kids" but "hey you are not bad if you are an adult who also enjoys the game for its intended appeal points and not for a huge mega complicated mathematical metagame people made up to be 'more mature'". I was really surprised to see that written interview with masuda specifically mentioning IV breeding as the place where conpetitive goes too far and makes the game not fun anymore. "Pokemon wasn't meant to be a game about hatching eggs and nothing else." Like.. Playing competitively itself is not bad, i dont wanna sound like i hate hardcore fans and im a big ol jerk. I admire the dedication because it all seems so super unattainable and mathematically magical to me! Im not into that stuff but i can admire that you have to be a damn genius to achieve all that stuff. BUT i also get what he's saying. Because it sucks when you HAVE to be a damn genius to EVEN START PLAYING! Whenever high level competitive strats become the goddamn baseline it makes competitive completely inaccessable to everyone except the most hardcore of the hardcore, and its like damn man how do you even become that if you have no way to start practising? Iv breeding is so INSANE in retrospect! Like when you think about it, its wild that people even cracked the code for how to game the system and get the highest possible randomized stats for every ridiculously minor thing. Like how the fuck did they even figure out any of this?? And then all the further madness into figuring out how to attain it and how to raise odds of shinys and hidden abilities and how they keep figuring out new ways to do it with every new system each game brings out. And then people will spend friggin LITERAL DAYS OF REAL TIME running up and down the same road in the game, hatching thousands of eggs just to get the one mathematically superior pokemon from a confluence of random events. And this is treated as fuckin REQUIRED to play the game! You can't touch competitive if you dont do it. And these bad sorts of competitive players will try and force this requirement onto other non-competitive parts of the game, and shame casual players for not doing it even though its literally not what they want to play the game for.

Seriously, man! Individual values were just designed to make individual pokemon more random, so the play experience would seem more unique to each run. It was literally invented for a "casual" reason! It just really sucks that they implimented it in a way that had an objective "best" value to get, so people ignored the whole point of "adding personality" and just wanted that one. Tho i mean at least they patched out the early issue where gender and shinyness were linked to these values so you couldnt get certain types of pokemon as the "best" version and it was even more limiting. Glad that GSC didnt have online metagame yet, lol! (Tho it makes it possible for people to more easily predict which pokenon will become Shiny when transferred from rby to gsc, which is neat.)

ANYWAY WHERE WAS I

Oh yeah! I appreciate that each generation of games lately has made it easier to see your IVs and EVs and to get them to their "best" versions, with even the FUCK YEAH feature pf being able to "fix" bad IVs on level 100 pokemon. I carried my Sneasel named Reaper since RSE and he's been completely unuseable for so long and bottlecaps fixed that! Kid me just played the game like he was my starter and i loved him. I didnt know about IVs or EVs, so i took this terribly-statted dude with a bad ability and made him fight all the wrong pokemon because he is my best friend and he needs to win every gym battle and i will buy him lemonades afterward. Also he wore the Blackglasses item forever cos i thougjt itd be cool if you could put accessories on your pokemon. So yeah i did Everything Wrong and thus all the pokemon i actually cared about were made weak and useless by my love and i had to spend 48 hours running down a stupid road to hatch and abandon 1400 new ones just to get one that was "useable". Thanks to bottlecaps, this is no more! Decade old weasel pals can be revived! Tho still it sucks that i hit level 100 before this mon's evolution came out. Alas!

BUT

Like.. Even tho now its slightly less hard to make a "perfect" pokemon its still tedious as hell and really takes you out of the moment and you have to already know beforehand that its necessary. Kids are just gonna blunder in and not even know why they keep losing due to no fault of their own. Adults are gonna also do that. Seriously this isnt a "kiddy fans vs mature fans" or "non fans versus FANS" thing, this is just "fans who have one very specific skill for memorizing a bunch of numbers and steps and enduring hours of boredom doing it vs..people who think that kinda ruins the game". And even if nintendo fully streamlined the process into sonething easy, itd still feel like an unnecessary roadblock in the way of just getting to play the damn game. We really need to add some sort of hardcore/casual or iv breeding/no iv breeding thing to league divisions, as well as the tier lists. This is why im so hyped for the current "Spooky Cup", since it actually seems like a "just for fun" multiplayer experience, and its kinda dumb that we have to rely on nintendo actually programming limitations into a tournement cos the players refuse to allow anyone to just do it normally. I did a big whoop at "no mega stones" and "everyone gets a participation prize even if they lose"! And the limitations being a random event based thing rather than a skill cap! Yay ghost types!! Reminds me of the baby pokemon only tourneys in the n64 games. That was a kind of hardcore challenge that had a bit of creativity to it!

So anyway anyway what i'm getting at...

I'm just happy that the devs are saying "yes this is a casual game with more of what casual players want, and less of those hardcore limitations" and THATS NOT MEANT TO BE A NEGATIVE!! Actual developers sitting on a couch hugging giant pikachu plushies and saying this game is for people who just want a fun game about..well, hugging pikachus! They changed the way you catch pokemon because they wanted it to be more fun. They brought back following pokemon because fun. You get all these new features for your starter because they wanted you to really feel like a kid going on their first pokemon adventure and sharing all these special moments with pikachu! They talked about how the art style was decided upon because it was the closest to "how you imagined it in your head when you played pokemon yellow", and "if it was photorealistic it just wouldnt feel right". They picked eevee for the second option because they actually paid attention to the fans and which pokemon was the second most popular and had a similar "both cute and cool" appeal with all audiences. And they put the most effort into the visuals and the cuteness and making everything just feel like a good and fun adventure that recaptures everything you wanted as a kid playing the first game.

And they just act so unapologetically HAPPY about all these parts of the game! These are their favourite parts! They're the goddamn DEVELOPERS and even they say that they prefer the story and the characters and the relaxing childlike whimsy to the concept of refining gameplay to a ridiculous hardcore perfection and throwing out everything else in pursuit of that. And man, seeing them hugging the big pika and eev plushies in EVERY PROMOTIONAL VIDEO and just enjoying playing their own game so much!! And babbling on about dressing up your pokemon!!

God its just SO GOOD to see this as a fan who's been here since the very beginnibg and is starting to feel quite self concious about being an adult fan who isnt doing it "properly". Like man the pressure of hardcore competotive being the "only right way" started even when i was just 11, like seriously THE AGE THE ACTUAL TRAINERS ARE IN THE GODDAMN GAME. Before you even hit your teens you already got stuck up older kids telling you you were too old to just enjoy a game cos you enjoyed the damn game, noooo you have to make it as unfun as possible and only derive enjoyment from defeating other people. It took me until ORAS to actually even be able to try competitive at all, i found it so overwhelming until they added other methods to EV train. And even then i still felt like the blandness of the preparation outweighed any fun of playing these "higher level" battles. Like sure maybe some people like that stuff but it felt so dissappointing after all these years of being pressured to try it...

Sometimes its just good to enjoy a game cos you legit like the world and characters. Sometimes its just really validating to see the developers talking about enjoying making those things, cos it gives you permission to be less embarrassed about it. Sometimes its good to also see them hugging a hundred dollar giant pikachu while you hug your hundred dollar giant mimikyu. Cos seriously what is the point of being an adult if youre not allowed to buy these adult sized plushies? What kid could ever afford those! Im not letting my childhood dream pass me by just because ~maturity~ when im finally able to slap a fat wad of cash on the table and yell GIVE ME THE BIGGEST CHU

I will embrace all my pure childhood love and enjoy this game of just huggins and nothing else! And i really like this concept for the series, if they continue doing Let's Go as a spinoff so we'd have a set of games appealing to each of the casual and hardcore demographics. I always feel bad complaining about hardcore when really my actual opinion on it is just "its not for me" and im actually only complaining about the rude fans who tell me im not a real fan unless i like their genre of stuff. Dude i was three years old when pokemon came out, i think ive earned my right by seniority to hug a plushie or two! So itd be awesome if hardcore doods could get their super hardcore game too, and we could just argue less cos we'd each be able to enjoy what we enjoy. Tho i mean the main series games already have a pretty clear divide between story/fun being the main game and hardcore competitive being a postgame thing. And yet we still get all this fandom fightibg over "ignore the actual 90% of the game, skip the plotline and only play competitive" apparantly being the "real" way to play it. Like man im worried that attitude is still gonna stick arpund even if they do give us separate games appealing to each side of the fandom?

EHHH WHATEVER! Im just gonna sit here in my corner of casual hugs and work on my self confidence to be able to stop feeling bad about not being someone else's idea of a "real" fan. If real fans can't have pikachu in a little hat, then that is not the life i wanna lead!

Somewhere outside Namibia

The past few days seemed to have passed so quickly, yet at the same time going through it, it felt like it would take forever to go by. We arrived at our first port, Walvis Bay – Namibia, on the 26th of May morning, only to be told to go to anchorage because reasons. So we basically anchored off at Anchorage number 3 or whatever it was called, because there wasnt anyone there save for this one other multi purpose who seemed to have only 4 containers loaded. 1 on each corner of the upper deck/ hatch covers (2 forward, port and starboard and 2 in front of accomodation, also port and starboard). Anyway, we spent the rest of the day resting up after dropping anchor (9 on deck) because once we berthed it was all hands on deck. For the AB and OS at least anyway. I was relegated to gangway watch from 1730 to 2330, and conversely 0530 to 1130. But prior to my first gangway watch, i was stuck in the ship office with chief answering to the beck and call of the various parties boarding the ship. Immigrations, customs, port inspectors, police, health inspectors etc etc. Sometimes it feels like we are at their mercy. They can just call for you like calling some waiter or waitress at a restuarant.

“You, come here. I want a copy of your ship particulars, NIL list, stores decleration, crew list, vaccination list.” and barely a few minutes later after having to sort through what seemed like a million pieces of paper locating all these documents he calls again and asks where are the papers. All this while i have to serve him with a smile water and soft drinks. I guess thats the price we must pay for doing what we do.

Also, i had my first taste of the 'compliments' system. The immigration officers (if i remember correctly) asked chief about certain 'presents'. With a sheepish look he replied to hold on for a moment while he checked if there was anything. Eventually we handed over a carton of cigarettes to them. That was the only instance i saw at this port because i had to go start my duty at the gangway.

The stevedores are another group of people entirely. This port didnt seem too bad, but there was this one guy that kept trying to get things from me/us. Water, some form of drinks, cigarettes. Hell he even wanted my boiler suit and jacket. Also quite surprising some other guy asked me for our ship's pass holder, which is to say the plastic holder and lanyard. He said it was good to hold his port pass. Well, i had more in the ship office, but they were spares for us and in the pass box i didnt have any so i just said thats all we have and sorry.

What i dont understand throughout this first stay, and for sure all the future stays in ports is, that why do people want to take things from the ships when they, rightfully (or not) should be giving us things because we are out at sea with no chance of resupply till we get to a port. I was told stories that inspectors would come on board and take cartons of juices, yes cartons, because they never had it before or they like the taste or whatever clown reasons they have. I mean, is it really fair to people on the ship? You take our provisions and other things and what are we left with when we leave port? Especially when we are not resupplying at that port. We go out to sea with reduced food and drink for ourselves? If we had to go back to Singapore from Walvis Bay, lets say (because thats the journey i know, since i just did it) its 22 days or so out in the open sea. And we run out of food? Drinks? Then again thats just my thinking. Who am i anyway? Im just a cadet on a ship for the first time.

Anyway enough of that. The 3 days we spent at port was both long and short, as i have mentioned. It feels short now that we've set sail again (and that i finally feel a bit more rested to sit down and spend time writing these things out), but standing at the gangway doing duty for 6 hours straight felt like an eternity. And thats all there was for my port stay. 6 hours on duty, 6 hours rest. Which usually meant sleeping, no matter what was the time. I didnt get to go out on shore because no one from my 'shift' wanted to go. So i can safely say that the furthest ive been in Namibia was the 4th step on my gangway from my ship.

Also, whoever said that Africa is hot, should actually go to africa. At least the southern part. It was so cold my goodness. It was below 15 degrees everyday we were there, and dropped to anything from 12 to 14 degrees at night. Which isnt so bad actually, except for the fact that the wind will absolutely kill you if you dont dress warmly. Which for us meant long johns, boiler suit and thick jackets. The first night, where i did not have my jacket was the absolute worst night of them all. The wind was relentless in its battering and i had to resort to hiding in the space between the watertight door and inner door to the ships accomodation area. It wasnt that bad in the day, with the sun warming up the air a bit. But i still wore the jacket anyway, simply for the fact that i can hide from the winds this way. Also, it was really foggy/misty, like everyday. Usually clears around noon-ish or so, then picks up again at night. I would delve into meteorology but ill spare everyone and myself included for trying to think about the causes.

For the port itself, it was quite a small port i think. I mean, you cant compare it to Singapore/Shanghai/any top 5 ports you want to put here, but still it feels smaller than what i would have expected it to be. There were maybe like 20 berths in total? And even the cranes are general purpose, none of them were specially fitted for containers. So that meant that if you were unloading containers first, they would attach this special fixture onto the chain block of the crane and when in position, the stevedores would make sure that the container was firmly attached before lifting it off the ship and onto the jetty. Even then, it didnt look anything like what was happening in Singapore (ive been into pasir panjang thrice now. Basically there would be the trailer waiting to pick up the container straight off the crane and drive off, with the next one waiting behind). Instead the container was lifted off the ship and onto the jetty straight away, and just before placing it on the jetty, the stevedores would again remove the twist locks from the bottom section of the containers (twist locks are for holding the container in place while at sea. Its basically a locking mechanism that makes sure that the container stays in place). Then after they check the container number and stuff, they would get another vehicle, like a special forklift cum crane thing that would pick it up and place it onto a trailer that basically just arrived from wherever. In singapore, this process would be maybe 5 minutes start to finish. Here its essentially double the time at least. Then once all the containers that are supposed to be unloaded are unloaded, the crane brings the chain block down to the jetty level, and the stevedores remove the attachment and replaces it with a suitable replacement as to what cargo would be picked up next, i.e. Slings, chain slings, hooks etc etc for picking up the bulk/general cargo. We unloaded quite a bit of cargo here. We unloaded all of the containers on number 4 hatch, and i think some from number 2 hatch as well, and basically emptied out hold 4. We also did some sketchy balls to the walls discharging from hatch 2. Because there was cargo on the deck/hatch cover, on the tween deck and also in the lower hold of number 2. Luckily they were all on the forward part. So we opened up hatch 2 forward part after discharging the cargo on the deck, then discharged the cargo on the tween deck forward in number 2, then removed the pontoon, and then discharged the cargo from the lower hold forward section also. It was pretty risky as there were trucks and some transformers in the hold, to be precise it was 16 trucks. Dont ask me about number of transformers, i dont know. Anyway from the cargo we are carrying, it seems a lot of it is being used to build a power plant and also for construction (trucks w/ trailers). I am quite happy to be a part of this industry for this reason.

We may not be directly involved, but we somewhat enable countries to grow because they are able to get the goods that they need to progress. It may seem somewhat abstract, like what has a shipping company, whose interest is making the most money out of every space they can find on the ship, got to do with the growth of a country?

Chief said this to me before, and i had somewhat similar thoughts about it before (its probably not exactly what he said, since this was like one or two weeks ago and it was about cargo damage or something);

If the cargo doesnt get to its destination on time or in working order, we are affecting someone's livelihood directly or indirectly. We are part of a long chain of a process, and no matter how small it may seem that it is, what happens to the cargo when we are transporting it affects what will happen when we deliver it to the cargo owner.

If the cargo owner is shipping a single transformer that is critical for the project, and it gets damaged because of loading/unloading/sea spray/water leaking into cargo hold or literally anything else that can damage it, it would directly affect its ability to carry out the job. If this transformer was all thats left to power up a whole town or something (dont hang me on this i actually am not sure what a transformer's purpose is), and because it was damaged, it means that the town would not get the power that it needs.

So yeah. Thats one of the reasons why I wanted to do this as well. As small and abstract a part as it may seem, I can take solace to the fact that I am part of a global industry that connects and enables people from different countries to work together.

At least on this multipurpose vessel. Im not too sure about containers yet.

Anyway when we were in port, 2nd officer went out on shore leave and i think at the request of the captain, purchased sim cards enough for 16 people or something like that. The cards gave us 1gb of data and like 500mb or something for dedicated whatsapp messages. And smses, but who uses sms nowadays right /shrug.

So we were able to actually contact people at home and stuff. Which was nice. It helped a lot during the ungodly long hours of duty. I spent most of my data i think downloading my spotify playlists and using instagram, telegram, facebook and stuff. I still had like 300mb of whatsapp data but i dont really use whatsapp that much. I spent a lot of the data sending some pictures and videos that i had that werent already transferred to my laptop.

And that's that. My 3 days in my first ever port in this new journey. Hopefully the time would pass a bit faster now that we are getting into the swing of things.

Im in the process of deciding a new tumblr url, for the purposes of this journal or whatever you would call it.

Now that im back in the open sea with no data, i cant translate properly into german since my german is absolutely shit for all, but i was thinking of salty sea dog, which i guess would translate to something like saltzliches see hund. Oh well. Or i could just go with Deutsche See Hund. Im still deciding.
