realistic zukka: zuko is swamped with being firelord and righting everything wrong w the fire nation that he has No Time for visitors or personal letters, sokka is busy as chief of the swt and building all his little inventions to speed the rebuilding efforts along. zukka doesn’t speak for weeks bc they simply don’t have the time or mental space to think about that.

that is, until zuko wakes up in the middle of the night to a face over his, grinning like a madman. zuko’s instinct is to fight bc there has been five assassins this week and it’s only monday. sokka is screeching like a banshee bc if zuko breaks his invention-

the guards burst in and light up the room to find chief sokka of the swt desperately scratching at the ground to get away from a half awake firelord zuko who is currently beating him with the first thing he could get his hands on: sokka’s invention.

SO ZUKO CAN SWIM- and he’s pretty good actually- BUT HE NEVER REALLY SWAM FOR ENJOYMENT. SO WHEN SOKKA AANG SUGGESTS THE BEACH FOR THE NEXT GAANG REUNION, ZUKO IS A LITTLE HESITANT. ESPECIALLY WHEN SOKKA INVITES HIM INTO THE WATER. BUT ZUKO IS SOFT AND GAY SO FUCK IT! I JUST WANT A SOFT GAY ZUKKA BEACH DAY WHERE TOPH ABSOLUTELY ROASTS THEM FOR BEING GAY PINNING IDIOTS. bro i am here for fluffy beach day, no more angst on the beach! we have evolved past the need for angsty beaches  

zuko & beaches: 

zuko has associated the beach with happier times in his life and he’s not sure if he’s ready to go back to that place 

his family used to be somewhat functional and he was happy as a kid 

but the water has become associated with his banishment and constant search for years to find the avatar; swimming was essential for him to survive

but now he’s ready to try and be happy with his friends 

he doesn’t go into the water at first because he’s chilling under a big beach umbrella with toph who refuses to move around where she can’t see

definitely not because sokka is swimming around in the ocean and definitely trying to show off, zuko let’s him have his fun and is admiring the view 

it isn’t until sokka actually tries to get him in the water that he realizes that zuko can swim extremely well and against the current if he tried 

sokka: “it’s literally not fair that you can firebend and be a top tier professional swimmer!”

toph, already upset at the sand not providing enough stability, roasts the hell out of them “ick, you guys are so disgusting, i would rather have appa sneeze on me then put through another moment of this” 

sokka, unabashedly “as a victim to appa’s sneezes, i personally guarantee you don’t want that”

waterfights between everyone but katara and aang can’t be on the same team bc they would be cheating and overpowering everyone else with their bending and also bc they’re disgustingly sweet when they’re on the same team 

they stay at the royal family’s beach house, because exposure therapy and i make the rules

they make new memories there so zuko doesn’t always associate it with bad times 

it’s aang’s idea that they throw a party and tries to invite the other fire nation teens chilling on ember island 

zuko has to kindly remind him about the last time that he crashed a party on the island -- poor chan is still traumatized

sokka and zuko end up sneaking out of the party to go for a late night swim. the end.
