Match Review: Manchester United 2-1 Brentford
Football, bloody hell.
Tumblr media
Since we're quoting Fergie, I'd like to pay my respects to the Ferguson family and give my condolences on the passing of Lady Cathy Ferguson. She was a remarkable woman and gave crucial love and support to a man who provided so much joy to Manchester United football club and its fans. May she rest in peace.
Tumblr media
How apt though that it was one of Ferguson's academy kids Scott 'McSauce' McTominay who came off the bench and rescued United from despair with not only the equalising goal but also the winner.
Tumblr media
Not just that, but the winning goal was assisted by Harry Maguire; an almost loathed figure amongst the fan base at present but one of our best players today. He had a very resolute game in defence and quietly got on with his job. Perhaps he was aided by the veterancy of Jonny Evans and that calm support and guidance. Perhaps he simply cannot play with Victor Lindelöf.
Tumblr media
We should roll back to the earlier parts of the game though, and what for 90 minutes was simply dire football. United seem to constantly suffer lapses in concentration, which meant we conceded a silly goal to Jensen in the 26th minute after Casemiro lost the ball and Lindelöf failed to clear properly. Onana could perhaps have done more to save it, but he is looking behind a crowded box of United and Brentford players, and should he not expect one of his seasoned defenders to be able to successfully get rid of a ball?
Both Casemiro and Lindelöf appear to be devoid of form, and Onana's not far behind. After the international break it will be interesting to see if other players force them out of the side. Starlet Kobbie Mainoo is close to a return, Hannibal Mejbri has impressed, and if a left back can return to fitness then Amrabat can stay in midfield as the anchor or pivot.
Tumblr media
United's play seemed to lack not only intelligence, but also energy. Are we unfit? Are we tired? What is going on? Because at this rate I'm more inclined to put our poor performances down to a lack of willing or desire, and simply put that isn't on at Manchester United. You fight for the badge or you sling your hook.
Tumblr media
Confidence is blatantly lacking though, and that's definitely impacting United's composure to retain possession and perform habitual passing patterns, whether triangle moves, give and go, one-touch retention... it's sloppy and uncoordinated and very frustrating as a fan.
For all United failed the eye test, the statistics show we were the better team which (Thomas) Frankly is embarrassing for Brentford. 64% possession to Manchester United, 21 shots, 8 on target, 7 corners... the intent was there but it's about the execution, and that comes from confidence and synergy.
Højlund looked poor today, for example, but he's still young and new and bedding in. This is why he was talked of as a second-fiddle for a star signing like a Harry Kane - he will take time.
Tumblr media
Erik Ten Hag is as culpable as the players for poor results, and many fans will say we got away with it today and decry the lack of standards from other fans for enjoying a 2-1 win. That was, after all, the first time United had trailed in the 90th minute of a Premier League game and then won it.
To the bitter fans I say go boil your head, because if you can't enjoy United winning then what's the point of you. We're not owed success. We're owed a desire for success - from players and coaches. We're owed a determination to do well. That's where we should rightly be criticising people. McTominay's heroics at the end of the game bagged us two goals in under 5 minutes. Now imagine if we play with that urgency earlier in the match. We could have snotted this lot and given them the sort of rodding that would boost any ego and make Gary Neville or Jamie Carragher think he had a chance at pulling Beyonce.
Tumblr media
I also believe that Erik is as deserving of praise when things go right as he is of criticism when it goes wrong. His choices to substitute Casemiro for Eriksen, Rashford for Garnacho, and Amrabat for McTominay proved to be excellent decisions. We know he has tactical intelligence, we saw it at Ajax. He's been on camera and broken his style down in interviews. The issue is players, man management, and in-game decision making. We don't know the whole picture, but fuck it, at least today he got the decisions right.
The man is under huge pressure at a club owned by people who only care for money. He will get some things wrong. He also has to let players try and prove their worth, which might cost him and United. How many fans would have been happy at McTominay coming on as a sub to try and win the game? Honestly? The answer is not many. Yet he bangs in two in Fergie Time, the Old Trafford crowd roars, and McSauce pulls off yet another textbook knee slide. Fuck yes.
Tumblr media
United are in a bad way. The players are playing like shit, and the manager has made some dumb mistakes, but we have to be fair and give them time to fix up. That doesn't mean they are exempt of criticism, but there's a balance to be had that isn't just TEN HAG OUT, SELL RASHFORD, TAKE AWAY BRUNO'S CAPTAINCY, BENCH ONANA. Honestly, go and watch United in the early days of Fergie, or even before that in the void after Sir Matt Busby. Understand that there will be bad times - yes, even more than a decade - and that it's on us as fans to be loyal and support the club.
What next though... I already jumped the gun and said that the Burnley win might be the turning point, and the Palace cup match seemed to prove that, but we're still faltering. We need a good international break now and to regroup with fresh ideas and renewed confidence ready to go on a run to Christmas. We have the talent, but do we have the mental fortitude and that drive to bounce back? Now's the time to show up.

so we won 2-1 the goal scorers for england were hemp and stanway and Smith scored for the us. all goals were in the 1st half. i think there were alot of bad decisions by the ref. the us scored an equaliser for it to be 2-2 but it was called for offside (it wasn’t but i’m not complaining) the states nearly got a penalty for handball against hemp but it hit her on the arse 💀but thankfully it went to VAR and just a lot of fouls that went to the u.s that shouldn’t of. imo we played great 1st half but 2nd we looked tired, our defence was shit. we kept passing back and they took advantage of that a lot. Lucy bronze was definitely are best player. Also she played beth for the full 90 which she shouldn’t of done (sorry this isn’t the best description of the game)
no that was a perfect description of the game.
surprised the score was low considering the scores most womens games end in (i think the lowest WSL i’ve been to is 3-3)
hemp doing a bum ball is something i will definitely watch
makes sense for bronze to stand out if they were lacking in the 2nd half as she’s a very strong player and i totally agree with beth on for the full game?? for a friendly AND during wsl?? it’s a bit extreme but oh well

Gigabyte M27U Gaming Monitor Specifications And Features
Tumblr media
Gigabyte M27U review
The new Gigabyte M27U monitor targets video gamers, but not exclusively. Users running multiple apps will have plenty of space on the 27-inch IPS panel’s 3,840 x 2,160 resolution. High resolution can also be a bit of a hardship at times because it requires gear that can support native resolution and yet playback at a good quality level. A maximum refresh rate of 160 Hz is supported with the M27U. One millisecond (MPRT) or five milliseconds (gray-to-gray) is the response time according to Gigabyte. Supported is FreeSync Premium, which aims to successfully stop tearing.
A maximum brightness of 400 cd/m is specified. Despite having DisplayHDR 400 certification, the IPS panel’s 1,000:1 contrast ratio makes it doubtful that it will be especially useful for displaying high-contrast content at an OLED’s level. 95% of the DCI-P3 colour space is covered, according to Gigabyte. It advertises a number of gaming features, including night vision, zoom, highlighting dark spots in the image, and a crosshair display. Image signals can be input into the monitor using USB-C, DisplayPort 1.4, and HDMI 2.1. A USB hub including three USB 3.2 ports is available for accessories and storage, and USB PD, however limited to 18 watts, is supported. Finally, two speakers each with a 3 watt output are mounted.

Time to say goodbye 😢 (7/8)
It's taken us some time to come to terms with it but the group stages of Euro 2024 have come to an end and we've lost a third of the teams. We bid a sad farewell to the early leavers and look back at some of their best bits.
Tumblr media
SERBIA
Serbia did not do much this tournament. They scored just 1 goal in their three matches, and even though it was a 90+5 minute equaliser, it was not enough to really make us excited for the team.
Tumblr media
(Yeah, we don't know what goalkeeper Jan Oblak was doing here either 😬)
Yes, Serbia's group wasn't the easiest (on paper) but we expected so much more from a squad boasting Dušan Vlahović, Aleksandar Mitrović, Dušan Tadić etc.
Perhaps the most interesting thing they did all tournament was threaten to leave the Euros if Albania and Croatia weren't punished for the joint anti-Serbian chanting by their fans when the two sides met. Leaving the politics to one side, we can only assume Serbia were ultimately unhappy with UEFA's response and were determined to follow through with their threat, hence the poor results 🤔.
Not even a special pre-match visit from tennis superstar and fellow countryman Novak Djokovic was enough to inspire them.
Overall, Serbia did not really bring anything to the Euros that we're gonna miss, unfortunately (well except Vlahović himself, of course) . Maybe next time?
Збогом Србијо! 🇷🇸

Quarter Final Joy For Railway
Railway reserves seem to be getting into their groove as the season plays out its final few tracks; an upturn in form has seen them pick up a number of good results in the league, and they have a Whitworth Cup Final to look forward to against Knaresborough Town at Station View on the 24th April.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Saturday saw them playing in the quarter final of the West Yorkshire League Cup, against Horsforth St. Margaret’s.
To give some context, Horsforth play in the same league as Railway and are currently in sixth place, nine places and 17 points above the Harrogate team; so, this was promising to be a difficult afternoon for the home team.
The game kicked off in bright sunshine – a rarity this season. Conditions couldn’t have been better to be honest, even though rain was forecast while the game took place; spoiler alert: it did rain during the 90 minutes, but you could probably have counted the number of drops before the wind swept the clouds away from over the ground.
Tumblr media
The first 45 minutes showed why Railway Reserves are getting results; battling for every ball; winning a lot of the 50-50’s; getting their formation and tactics right; and firing shots in on target when they can.
The visitors were making sure the Station View side needed to work hard, by being direct and aggressive in getting forward themselves. Horsforth were creating a few good chances, but Railway’s defence were holding strong and ensuring the dangerous situations created were ultimately little more than half-chances.
Harrogate Railway were also having a lot of success up front, creating several really good situations where they should have scored. One particular passage of play saw the Horsforth Goalie pull off a triple save, when Harrogate Railway looked certain to open the scoring.
Tumblr media
It actually took only ten minutes for the home team to open the scoring as Harry Croft managed to beat Horsforth’s stopper and edge Railway in front, 1-0.
As the half progressed, it was clear that the two teams were evenly matched, and both looked dangerous up front. Horsforth’s number three looked the most likely to score for the visitors as he impressed each time he picked up the ball and ran at the Railway players.
Tumblr media
Half time and Railway led by the solitary goal and were actually good value for that slim lead. However, it felt as if this game had more goals in it…maybe not many, but certainly at least one more.
Horsforth came charging out in the second half; the visitors determined to overhaul the one goal deficit and were immediately forcing Railway backwards from kick-off.
The home team were resolute not to give up their goal advantage and mounted a rear-guard defence, dealing with wave upon wave of attacks [it has to be said] with great fortitude – even if sometimes it was rather uncomfortable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
During the first half hour of the second period, Harrogate were defending deep, and the midfield were being pushed right to the edge of their own penalty box; when the ball was cleared, Horsforth were able to collect it and feed it right back into the danger area.
It seemed like it was only a matter of time.
“What happens if they get an equaliser? Is there a replay or penalties?” I heard one spectator ask. There were clearly some nerves from the home fans, knowing that this game was so finely poised.
Tumblr media
The Reserves were breaking out occasionally but had struggled to put a prolonged passage of play together to threaten the visitor’s goal in the first part of the second half.
But slowly, Railway forced their way up field and started to push the visitors back into their own half, Harrogate’s midfield moving forward as a unit and alleviating some of the pressure that had been exerted on their defenders.
With just under ten minutes left on the clock, Railway worked their way forward and the ball was played through to Harry once more, who ran into the box shrugging off the attention of the Horsforth defender and fired it past the advancing keeper to make it 2-0.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Any celebrations were muted as the Railway player went down with cramp, but his brace had, barring a huge turnaround in the final few minutes, won the game for Harrogate Railway.
Horsforth pushed forward once more from the restart but were unable to create any really meaningful goalscoring chances and the final whistle blew with Harrogate Railway Reserves winning the cup tie 2-0.
Tumblr media
The team from Station View progress to the semi-final of the League Cup, and in doing so they are building a good winning mentality at just the right time of the season; Momentum is important…but momentum at the business end of the season is simply priceless.
The Reserve team need to maintain this winning streak, and with only a few more wins in the league they can lift themselves clear of danger at the bottom of the table. The first half certainly shows what this young team are capable of, and with eight games remaining they have an opportunity of finishing the season very strong.

I’ve heard terrible things about the performance in this match. The players are lazy and don’t care. The manager is incompetent and doesn’t care. I’ve not watched “highlights”, but I suspect the truth is not quite as it might seem.
The players CAN play well. The manager CAN produce a good game plan. Both DO care. This was shown against Liverpool. However, players and managers are human. This match comes after an international break, so the momentum of the Liverpool win has gone. Also, people as old as me can clearly remember what happened all the time in the 70s: an ordinary team plays out of its skin and beats Liverpool. Next match they lose pathetically to Wolves. It’s always happened and it always will. I’m not at all surprised by this performance.
I suspect that one thing HAS changed. I have little doubt that Ten Hag has been told what will happen to him at the end of the season. I suspect that the regime will want to bring their own manager in. In which case I doubt that Ten Hag is really bothered about what happens from now on. He is probably just counting time until he is back at Ajax.
—————————-
hi - the run in to the end of the season has started - no more pesky international breaks to disrupt momentum or for players to pick up injuries or be exhausted by world wide travel
in the reverse fixture at old trafford united didn't play well but snatched victory in stoppage time - here it was almost replicated but had it been so it would have been the biggest theft since the great train robbery or brinks mat or any other similar offences
what is the real united - is it the one that thrillingly  defeated liverpool in the cup classic - or is it the one that has periodically produced dross performances like bournemouth at home, west ham away plus city at home and forest away - well this one at brentford can be added to the secondary list
brentford could and should have won at a canter - they hit the woodwork 3 times , had a goal ruled out for a very marginal offside and onana made a fine double save - united defended manfully but otherwise appeared to be fans of walking football - brentford were lively, energetic, passionate, intense, everything united were not - united seemed weak both physically and mentally
i have watched football for over 60 years and there have been countless 1 - 0 away wins by teams who have been utterly dominated for the 90 minutes only to nick a late winner with their only attack leaving the home fans crestfallen and screaming 'robbed' in total frustration
so when mount scored for united on 96 minutes it seemed that a crime against justice had been committed - but there was still time for united to squander their lucky break and they duly did so by allowing the admirable toney to set up ajer for a deserved equaliser
next up is chelsea - 2 sides that are shadows of their former selves - which united will we see - no idea
bye

Fluminense: 2023 Copa Libertadores Winners
Tumblr media
John Kennedy struck a spectacular extra-time winner as Fluminense ended their long wait for a first ever Copa Libertadores crown on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Argentina's Boca Juniors.
Substitute Kennedy volleyed home from the edge of the area in the 99th minute of an ill-tempered final at Rio's Maracana Stadium after the match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Kennedy was promptly sent off for collecting a second yellow card for an over-exuberant celebration among Fluminense's delirious home fans following the goal.
The 21-year-old Kennedy – named by his history-loving father after the 35th President of the United States – had been a decisive influence for Fluminense after being brought on as a substitute for playmaker Ganso 10 minutes from the end of normal time.
At that point, Boca looked to be getting on top after equalising with a 72nd-minute shot from Peruvian international right back Luis Advincula which cancelled out Fluminense's 36th-minute opener from veteran forward German Cano.
But the arrival of Kennedy breathed fresh life into the Fluminense attack and in the first half of extra-time, the young forward made the breakthrough.
A deft touch by Keno teed up the ball for Kennedy in space, who crashed a thunderous right-foot volley beyond the dive of Boca's former Manchester United and Argentina international goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
Tempers flared near half-time of extra-time with an ugly multi-player melee after unsuccessful Boca appeals for a penalty.
Cagey 90 minutes - Boca's Frank Fabra was given his marching orders by Colombian referee Wilmar Roldan after a VAR review caught him aiming a slap at Fluminense defender Nino.
With both teams down to 10 men, Fluminense could have wrapped up victory but Guga's effort after a sweeping counter-attack came back off the inside of the post and rolled across the face of goal.
Fluminense, the four-time champions of Brazil, were one of just two of the country's 12 biggest clubs never to have won the Libertadores prior to Saturday’s victory.
But Kennedy's extra-time thunderbolt handed Fluminense a victory that gives Brazilian clubs a fifth straight win in the tournament since the introduction of single-match format finals in 2019.
The game had gone to extra-time after a cagey 90 minutes finished level at 1-1.
Fluminense had taken the lead with a well-worked opening goal from veteran striker Cano after 36 minutes.
Keno was involved in that goal too, playing a neat 1-2 with Jhon Arias before pulling back for Cano, who swept in an emphatic low finish.
The final looked to be Fluminense's for the taking against a toothless Boca side who had just one shot in the first half.
The second-half began in much the same way, but as Boca began to press for an equaliser, Fluminense dropped deeper and looked increasingly nervous.
They paid the price for that approach on 72 minutes when right back Advincula advanced on goal, cutting in from the flank and unleashing a superb effort into the far corner beyond the dive of Fluminense goalkeeper Fabio.
The goal silenced the Maracana as Fluminense's fans feared the worst against the Argentine giants.
But Kennedy's arrival wrested momentum back in favour of the Rio club, setting up his extra-time winner.

MATCH REPORT: READING (2) 2 PORTSMOUTH (2) 3
Saturday 28 October, 2023. 3pm. SCLS. EFL League One
By the "Final Whistle" Portsmouth remained top of the league and Reading went bottom.
However, for most of the first half there was little to choose between the two teams although Reading's Button was called upon to make the most saves, and all were vital. Apart from mishandling the ball in the box but retrieving it again, he was a class act, with a diving leap to push away the ball on the goal line just one of his many marvels. He couldn't be faulted for Portsmouth's first goal, a Royal's defensive error, as he nearly reached it in the corner.
As the game went on, with two significant delays due to the tennis balls protest (Dai out) , Portsmouth showed their resilience and powered back to equalise just before HT, in added on time. Some Reading fans were shouting for the whistle to sound before Bishop equalised - some seconds after the 9 minutes given on the board - but I think it was right for referee Martin Coy to allow the play to be finished before calling time. In fact, in the 2nd half he returned the favour to Reading deep into added time but the Royals messed up their final opportunity.
All FIVE goals had star quality, and although the game was never dull, and mostly forward looking (both sides) an awful lot of time was unproductive - more so Reading - who lacked support play, too often an individual was left isolated and so a move broke down. Looking on, it was not obvious who Reading's strikers were, they were so casually deep in midfield or looking lost on the wing.
Winks and Savage scored two quick goals, with threats of abandoning the game due to the tennis balls put to bed at 2-0 up.
It was obvious no dissenting supporters would want to rob The Royals (potentially) of three very necessary points, although there were some minor crowd disturbances later on.
Portsmouth's "athletic" Norris made a goal saving save in the 2nd half but still couldn't match his rival in green, Button.
Smith must score was heard once before in an 1983 FA Cup Final, and it was the case again 40 years later at the SCLS, with an open goal chance fluffed in the first half. 3-1 to Reading then would have made all the difference.
The red card from an even-handed, methodical Coy issued to Mbengue summed up Reading's day.
Reading: Button, Guinness-Walker (Mbengue 66), Yiadom (c), Dean, Bindon, Craig, Wing, Savage (Ehibhatiomhan 75), Knibbs (Elliott 66), Azeez (Mukairu 66), Smith (Ballard 75). Subs: Pereira, Abbey.
Portsmouth: Norris, Poole, Robertson (Raggett 90+1), Bishop, Morrell (c), Rafferty, Shaughnessy, Sparkes (Swanson 90+1), Devlin (Saydee 72), Anjorin (Whyte 62), Lane (Kamara 72). Subs: Schofield, Yengi.
MOTM: Button (Reading)
MOTM: Anjorin (Portsmouth)
ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: 8/10

i’m sorry but liga F is so damn boring, and before you say that WSL is the same as Chelsea always win, let me tell you that I’m not talking about who wins, I’m talking about how easily they win and how crazy the scorelines are. Barca rivals can’t even shoot on target, every match is purely 90’ of Barca players shooting. Barca’s dominance and superiority is just ridicolous. The Only teams who can compete against Barca are Levante, Atletico and Real Madrid. However, Barca always manage to win by a 3-goal-difference even to these clubs. I honestly don’t understand how Alexia for example isn’t tired of winning again and again without even trying. I watched Barcas yesterday match against Granada and they won 6-1 using their B player’s. Aitana, Alexia, Walsh and Mariona were benched, Hansen injured. there’s just no competitiveness at all. The WSL has Arsenal, Manchester city, manchester united, chelsea, liverpool or tottenham. And the level among these is more equalised. Not to mention that these are clubs with lots of fans who fill the stadiums. Obviously this is not shade against Barca, as if they would play in the WSL they would win it as well, but games would actually be interesting. I can only enjoy Barcas Champion’s League games as they’re the only competitive ones.
kinda fair

[ad_1] Teenager Salma Paralluelo hit an extra-time winner as Spain beat the Netherlands 2-1 at the Women's World Cup on Friday to set up a semi-final clash with Japan or Sweden. Over a tense 90 minutes in Wellington full of incident, Mariona Caldentey scored an 81st-minute penalty for Spain, only for Dutch defender Stefanie van der Gragt to equalise in added time 10 minutes later. With the quarter-final seemingly headed for penalties, the 19-year-old substitute Paralluelo produced a brilliant solo finish in the 111th minute to put Spain into the last four for the first time. They will now face Sweden or Japan in Auckland on Tuesday while the tournament is over for the Dutch, beaten finalists four years ago."It's hard now," said Van der Gragt, whose last game in football was an eventful one -- conceding the penalty for handball, then equalising, before Paralluelo's decisive, late intervention."We had the chance in extra time and we didn't score, they had one chance and they scored. That's football."It was reward for a display of controlled attacking football from the sixth-ranked La Roja, who have regained their swagger after crashing to a 4-0 group-stage loss to Japan. The 90 minutes of normal time were largely dominated by Spain -- and some VAR decisions -- but it was actually the Netherlands who looked stronger in extra time, before second-half substitute Paralluelo struck on the counterattack.VAR plays partJorge Vilda's Spain dominated the first half, making 11 unanswered attempts on goal. The Dutch were rescued by the woodwork twice in quick succession when Alba Redondo's header was parried onto the post by goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar and her follow-up nearly hit the same spot low down on the left post.Spain captain Esther Gonzalez, who was a constant menace, lashed a shot into the net from a Redondo mis-hit but the striker was ruled offside by VAR.The Netherlands regained a foothold in the second half. They looked set to go in front when Lineth Beerensteyn tumbled over in the box following contact with Irene Paredes, who was shown a yellow card as French referee Stephanie Frappert pointed to the spot.Frappert was advised by VAR to review and ruled there wasn't sufficient contact from Paredes, who had her yellow card withdrawn, much to the animated displeasure of Beerensteyn.Spain went ahead from the spot with nine minutes left of normal time through Caldentey after Paralluelo's cross struck Van der Gragt's flailing hand inside the penalty box.Inter Milan defender Van der Gragt made amends in the first minute of stoppage time when her surging run was found by Victoria Pelova before blasting past Cata Coll inside the far post. The Netherlands had the better chances in extra time, going close twice through Beerensteyn before conceding the decisive goal from Barcelona forward Paralluelo.World player of the year Alexia Putellas, who is recovering from a knee injury, was introduced off the Spanish bench during extra time. However, they will be without defender Oihane Hernandez for the semi-final after she was shown a yellow card for a foul.(This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed.)Topics mentioned in this article [ad_2]

City looked to be heading to a routine win against Arsenal after substitute Cole Palmer made it 1-0 on 77 minutes. The 21-year-old collected a pass on the edged cut into his left foot and sent a curler into the top far corner.
But 11 minutes into added time Leandro Trossard, who also came on equalised for Arsenal.

The Belgian received a pass from Saka after City had initially cleared a corner, and hit a low left foot shot which deflected off Manuel Akanji and rolled into the back of the net.

TIM gate, VRM disaster? Possible X299 motherboard faults and Skylake-X
In recent weeks, the leaf and video forest has been quiet. Even a VRM disaster or TIM gate (hot paste instead of lot) were discussed, but if you examine closely, the G… Thermal paste instead of solder Intel’s choice of improper (but cheaper) thermal paste instead of indium-based solder contributes to the cooling issue. Discuss the shelf life now… Default Settings Outside the Box, Cheats, Heat Long before launch, motherboard manufacturers made the first critique.
A typical all-in-one compact water cooler has dozens… We hold motherboard makers accountable. Blaming the imminent heat inferno just on Intel and the CPU cranked to its maximum limit would have been too short-sighted.
Noise across all media has been scarce in recent weeks. There was even discussion of a VRM disaster or TIM gate (thermal paste instead of solder), but the whole thing is just a long causal chain that starts with a hot-headed CPU. In theory, there are three. We try to make it simple, so one after another.
(1) Skylake-X is hardly coolable out-of-the-box in typical use due to excessive power consumption and thermal paste that limits optimal heat dissipation.
(2) The average user has little overclocking room, and many motherboards limit the CPU owing to design issues like insufficient external voltage converter cooling. Extreme overclockers barely work with modern hardware.
Usually, too much rhetoric is added, which doesn’t do credit to the potential purchasers’ difficulties.
Test setup and measurements
We’ll acquire a simpler Socket 2066 motherboard, make a vertical benchtable, and test (or not). We’ll look at the sensor values and origins of the respective areas, and we’ll use the infrared thermal imaging camera to test the board’s heating around the socket and voltage converter for plausibility.
We can also record the heating process in time-lapse videos. We also want to know if motherboard hotspots or heat transfer damage other components.
For safe sensor readings and smooth test setup operation, we use the newest motherboard BIOS and HWinfo in the latest beta version from v5.53–3190 (click on beta version while downloading!). We fixed or deepened certain features after a deeper inspection, manufacturer check, and community suggestions.
The board’s CPU power supply has 5 1 phases controlled by an International Rectifier IR35201. This multi-phase buck controller supports Intel VR12 and evidently VR13. The so-called doubling allows two circuits per phase with five phases, relieving the individual VRMs and equalising hotspots in area. This chip’s voltages and currents will be discussed later.
Each control circuit uses one International Rectifier IR3555 voltage converter. These highly integrated power stage chips include gate drivers, high- and low-side synchronous MOSFETs, and the Schottky diode. Unlike other MOSFETs, they have analogue temperature sensors. How else can you accurately measure these voltage converters’ temperatures without an IR camera?
MSI employs the Nuvoton NC6795D as a Super IO chip on the tested motherboard to record and provide sensor information. With a central thermistor between the power stage chips, the voltage converters’ temperature is likewise measured. Thus, we choose the back measuring point below this thermistor for our video acquisition.
The coils and capacitors of these voltage converter circuits and the board temperatures up to the CPU are also checked.
Sudden shutdown and downclocking
To better comprehend the future testing and the concerns that were often addressed too polemically in forums, we must realise that motherboard makers use safety devices. The Skylake-X is clocked down to 1.2 GHz at exactly 105°C at the thermistor (HWinfo under line MOS, Nuvoton NCT6795D) by our test board until the temperature drops below 90°C. Only then does it reach full velocity.
This makes sense since the flash point for the PCB material (FR4) is much higher, but the maximum continuous operating temperature is only between 95 and 105°C to avoid dry-out, bending, and conductor path hairline cracks in multilayer PCBs. This is good because graphics card makers normally have more (unnecessarily) nerve in this area.
In Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU), this downclocking termed Thermal Throttling: Yellow, yes. What about Motherboard VR throttling status indicators? We must also give a little addendum regarding HWInfo values. It is less well known that the IR35201 also measures temperature. These results for VR T1 and VR T2 are much higher and appear to contradict the external sensor.
As usual, only the controller chip temperature was output. This would be equivalent to voltage converter temperatures VRM1 and VRM2 on graphics cards with PWM controllers (AMD cards commonly utilised them) in various tools. Usually, the chip measured itself there. However, with IR35201 and IR3555, it can be presumed that the IR3555’s voltage values and temperature inside are also utilised.
Before the XTU yellow warns of motherboard VR throttling, these values are limited to 125°C and the CPU is clocked to 1.2 GHz. Because voltages could run outside specifications and damage hardware above 135°C, the motherboard is turned down without notice.
CPUs also protect themselves. Multiple integrated digital temperature sensors (DTS) determine the computing core and package temperatures. The precision of these calculations rises with temperature. Below 40°C, it’s irrelevant, but from 80°C, it’s accurate. We can also see that core and package temperatures can cause clock throttling.
The power loss of the IVR the CPU’s voltage converters that provide partial voltages is also included in package temperatures. With strong overclocking and manual voltage increase, unanticipated limit overruns might occur quickly, which not all tools can detect. So the CPU throttles without the user knowing why. The IVR will be discussed shortly.

Tranmere Rovers 1 - Everton 1
Stanley Mills scores from the spot to equalise for the Toffees sending the keeper the wrong way. The gaffer was at Prenton Park watching the young Blues play. I’m waiting for the club to post the full 90 so I can have a better look at the lads.
All in all a good day for Toffees!
