unearthly, a matt sturniolo fic. synopsis: in a small suburban area of boston, a group of teenagers—matthew sturniolo and his two triplet brothers, nick and chris, and a childhood friend of theirs, y/n—travel to an old destination named granger’s deathly hill; a place in which hadn’t been visited merely since the early 1970s. atop of the old haunted hill, the group soon realize things aren’t truly as picturesque as they imagined and conclude that they are in grave danger. as they meet people along the way, they realize that the journey home may be harder than expected. knowing that they are in a situation that could ultimately ruin their lives or end them entirely, they make up a plan to make it back home safe, or better yet, alive. amongst the chaos, while trying to save each other, matt and y/n realize that there is more to them than just friendship.

a basic overview and establishment of characters: growing up with the triplets always got you in difficult situations, let it be coming home late after playing games all night, watching horror movies until nick and chris cried, or now trailing up a haunted hill. whatever situation there was in the world, you were bound to get in it. matt was the nonchalant one, always down to do whatever the rest of the group wanted, as he just wanted to be included in a good time. matt loved being able to see you, even if it was doing the craziest things in the world. from chris knew about matt and his crush, but the rest of the group had no idea that you felt merely the same for matt, although nick seemed to have somewhat of an idea. now, as you venture to granger’s deathly hill, there is only one thing on your mind; how could you do something more extreme than any of the ghost adventures and terrifying trips to local bridges and not wonder about how you may never know when it’s the right time to tell matt that you love him? little did you know, that matt, who acted as if he wasn’t scared of a thing in the world, was thinking the same thing.

arc 4/season 2 of re:zero really did have a bunch of sets of siblings with lots of focus on them. it seemed to be a bit of a recurring theme for the season. family bonds as a whole were really important, especially where the backstory was concerned, but in contrast to that, the sibling relationships seemed to be about moving each other forward. in different ways though...

like, you have frederica and garfiel. they're estranged half-siblings, but frederica still obviously cares so much about her little brother. the reason she left was because she wanted to make a place for him and the rest of the people in the sanctuary in the outside world. garfiel was stuck inside the past, fearing the outside world for what happened to their mother. but when he finally faces his trial again, it's the memory of his sister that gives him the motivation to move forward.

similarly, in emilia's second trial, it's her conversation with archi that enables her to face the present for what it is. even though trial archi seemed to be pushing her towards the world of the trial itself, that's exactly what reinforces her will. with her memory of the real archi, she calls him "big brother" for the first time, and she thanks him for always being worried about her. the sad thing is, unlike all of the other sibling duos, archi has already been dead for a long time. but even then, like we saw in the first trial, he gave his life because he wanted emilia to keep moving forward.

and in otto's backstory too... he spent most of his childhood completely unable to interact with the world around him. the constant noise was too overwhelming, to the point that he couldn't actually hear anything else. he had no way to understand or communicate his feelings. and though his parents did their best to understand him, he was still stuck in this state. it wasn't until oslo decided to teach him how to write that he was finally able to express himself. despite the fact that it was harder for otto than other kids, he finally managed his first real message to his family, "thank you for everything." and with that, he cried for the first time since was born, and was able to move forward again.

even the antagonists this arc are siblings. meili and elsa dont get as much focus into their relationship as the others (not for this arc at least), but one very obvious development is that elsa has someone she cares about. elsa "bowl hunter" granhiert, a serial killer/assassin/vampire who takes great pleasure in watching people die, and tearing out their organs, has a person she cares about. this is a humanizing trait for her, and that's on purpose. loving meili literally makes her "more" human. someone that she's also willing to give up her life for. and later on, in arc 6, we see just how much elsa's death impacted meili and how she hasn't been able to move forward since that day.

this theme is even more noticeable in the negatives too. in rem and ram's case, who have already been set up as a matching set all the way back in arc 2. they're identical twins, they've loved each other literally since they were born. ram awoke her powers as a newborn just to save her crying sister. they share a deep and powerful bond. but... what the hell happens when that goes away? because rem had her name and memories eaten, ram forgets she ever had a sister. her character digresses, her entire world is now centered on roswaal, she's more devoted to him than she was before. without her sister, ram moves backwards.

and of course, there's the sibling duo that this entire season centers around- subaru and beatrice. i've talked before about how subaru's relationship with echidna and roswaal is like a foil for his relationship with his actual parents. subaru has been raised living in the shadow of his father, but his actual dad never once forced him into it- he encourages his son to stand on his own and be his own person. roswaal is the opposite, he corners subaru in an attempt to make him a mini roswaal. subaru's mother was always watched him closely, but never made his choices for him. echidna is the opposite, where she wants to manipulate and control subaru's every action to satiate her own goals and desires.

but echidna is also beatrice's actual mother, which places beatrice in the role of subaru's sister in his fucked up found family echidna had created. but beatrice and subaru were never forced together, they chose each other. beatrice was left alone in a library for 400 years, abandoned by her mother and left to wait for a person who would never truly come (who never truly existed). she has been stuck for so long, unable to break her chains. but the action that finally does free her from this stasis is when subaru asks her to choose him. the only way for them to escape this "family" and move forward was for them to choose each other.

Honestly Rory seems like he would be absolutely aghast if someone even just asked “You’re into girls right?” Like full blown crisis, pacing around in his room muttering to himself” “Into girls right?” Was that a joke? Were they being serious? With the robe and the polish and - I don’t look straight do I? NO!! I don’t !!” Stops death in his tracks and turns to Jules “Jules. Be honest with me. Do I look….*straight*?” The plush rabbits expression remains unchanged. Rory sags in on himself like someone just let all of the tension out of his muscles “Oh THANK god!!”

My 2024 wish is for the triplets and Alahna to get back together or at least maybe patch things up. Ik we don’t know what actually happened behind the scenes but god do I miss her and them together 😭 It also just hurts my heart knowing they were so so close and now they’re just like, not.. ykwim? 😭 it’s like reminding me of people I used to be super close with but now I’m not and it’s like ugh I can feel her pain but I can not imagine what it must’ve been like for her on that level and it honestly makes me wanna sob 😭😭😭 praying they find their way back to each other some time in life (and if not then I still truly wish so much happiness for all of them 🫶)

Ngl, I find a lot of the way the fandom talks about him somewhere on the spectrum of disappointing; however I do like how everyone knows just how much Henry and Charlotte love eachother. It’s universal knowledge that they love eachother more than life itself <3

Peter: Alexander Lightwood, from the beginning. Peters got a little trio going on with Alexander and Zachary Carstairs, plus there are his sisters, but Alexander and Peter are Will and Jem level parabatai. They love each other dearly, and really are perfect for each other.

Marigold: Honestly she’s not great at the whole friendship thing. She gets along really well with Grace, her older brother but, you know, if Christopher had lived? They would have absolutely loved each other.

Thelma: If we’re looking at younger, roaring 20s aged Thelma, despite being a lot younger she gets along really well with Eugenia Lightwood- Thelma was convinced she was the coolest person ever as a wee little child, and once she got a little older they hang like old friends.

Also, her wife. Thelma enjoys her day to day company as much she enjoys everything else about her.

i love threshold au as a babyfic (BARELY) with plot. its got all the right adverse elements for me and then i dont even gotta deal with pr*gnancy stuff it already HAPPENED haha.

its just got that yummy miserable combination of kathryn having wanted to be a mother and achieving it but at the cost that shes now been unfaithful to Mark. in some strange way. :) and her children very much represent that falter in her resolve. and I LIKE TO THINK that a part of her hyperevolved self knew exactly what she was doing. (you kinda get that impression at the end of Threshold from what she says about her initiating things) and her now and after the fact, havaing a vague sense and lingering awareness of what she did and that she wanted them. AND i dont think shed ever admit that to anyone, and is why she keeps her distance from her babies its like a HUUUUUGE guilt complex and she’s punishing herself for caving in a little bit. theres also obviously the TRANSFORMATION aspect of the au as well but i think what really eats at her the most in SEASON TWO is the former. but also theyre weird lizard babies and she can instinctively understand their moods and chirps and she hates it. but like acquiring babies So Rapidly with no thought behind it, no preparation, no warning, Delicious. :)
