So... Dom's reasons for betraying Rhea are bullshit

This is coming from someone who doesn't have a particular alliance to RheaDom or LivDom btw, I just like a good story

I think it would've been even better if he adopted the whole 'you guys were acting different after becoming champions' thing that Finn is talking about (which doesn't even make that much sense considering Rhea had been champ for so long)

He absolutely shouldn't have denounced all his Mami stuff from before with Rhea because it puts everything he's done in the past 2 years into question and makes it look like a waste. And why was he so passionately defending Rhea in his match against Jey Uso if he was just gonna betray her anyway?

He should've talked about how with Rhea being gone, he wasn't distracted anymore and he could see the flaws in the Judgement Day more and more. Maybe Finn and Liv convinced him that the terror twins were going to start controlling him the way his dad used to. Maybe he felt like Rhea and Damien were starting to pander to the audience more (because they were slowly becoming babyfaces) which he thinks goes against everything the judgement day stands for and Damien actually found enjoyment in Dom being in the doghouse with Rhea when she returned, idk. Literally anything is better than 'Liv gives me chicken tenders' for gods sake.

Rhea's vibe has been weird too. Why is she going on about 'wanting Dom to win on his own' when the Judgement Day's entire thing was being meddling heels. I get that she's transitioning to being a good guy but all she had to do was go 'I just never thought you would do it to me.' Getting mad at Dom for the concept of meddling in matches is a bit OOC for her I think.

And on that note, why didn't we have at least one week where Rhea is actually hurt by the betrayal? Actually embarrassed for letting her guard down and trusting Dom. That could've added more complexity to the breakup, Dom and Liv could get even more heat by rubbing it in while Rhea gets more sympathy and adoration from the crowd. Now her image is back to being this indestructible being that can't be stopped by anything. She really could've benefitted from that internal conflict because her overcoming it would've been that much more badass.

I'm still gonna let the storyline cook and for what its worth I think all the performers are doing an incredible job, I just see the potential for more

also yeah the ending!!! its kinda weird because you spend the entire time wishing that he would die and then he actually does die and it’s like what the fuck. good riddance though

also! i have to ask what your thoughts on jean moreau are because you definitely see a lot more of him in this book and he is Such a character i think. anyways.

Ngl it did really throw me for a loop for a hot minute because I was like...I was so sure andreil was the relationship. It was one of five things I knew going in. I knew there was sport, something mafia-esque, cigarette, girl with dyed hair, and andreil. i'd seen andreil everywhere

so i was reading all the books with that in mind and then suddenly i was like. have I been deceived?? did you all lie to me?? is it just a really popular fan ship??? no...surely not....unless??? but honestly can't be too mad i got mind gamed about the mind game guys

I almost made a post about doesn't mean I wouldn't blow you. unreal!!! i think i put the book down for a second to process. must've reread it at least five times. just casually recontextualizing everything neil knows in a single instant.

also, when they made out on the carpet that first time I think i deserve an award for my strength. i put it down and did homework, went to class, came back and did more homework, and then continued reading. because I knew I'd get nothing done if I kept going, and I was right

and yes on the complicated Riko feelings. I personally believe very strongly no one is beyond change, so seeing him just killed. idk what to make of it. obviously he was horrific to everyone around him, but that doesn't make death the answer. but what was anyone else gonna do? his story wasn't gonna end any other way. he stepped too far out of line and the people around him weren't the forgiving type

and Jean! excited to see more of him in the next books. lot going on considering how little we see him, but also a mutual of mine said ahead of time he was her best friend, so I was predisposed to see him favorably. he seems resilient, quietly determined, and a realist. idk how accurate that is, but I feel like he fights the fights he knows he can win and watches his back the rest of the time.

anyways. many thoughts head full. much to consider. much to read. OH AND!! Neil just coming out smiling after Riko's death?? wish we could've seen everyone's reactions.

Making that photoset with the Agnes Obel lyrics got me thinking about Dark (2017, Netflix) and the dynamic between George and Max. The main theme of that show is that the protagonists cannot escape from the time loop because they are slaves to their desires. They cannot give up what they want, which means that whenever they arrive at a crossroad, they make the same old wrong choice and are doomed to never break the loop. It's only when they sacrifice themselves that the knot is undone. And in a much less dramatic way, it kind of is the same with George and Max. What they want most in life is to win. And that means races and championships, of course, but this obsession also seeps into their arguments, where neither is willing to shrug and say "whatever, it's no big deal". Both of them need to have the last word, both of them want to deliver the devastating blow. So they're friends when they're not competing directly, because they have the love of racing in common and they make each other laugh and they both love to talk and they work in the same place and they're two of only 20 people in the world going through an incredibly specific set of situations, but when push comes to shove they cannot pass on a fight because none of them is willing to let go of the thing he wants most in the world, which is to win, anything, at any cost.
