The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that an Eden expy would be perfect for HSR.

Beauty... What is your definition of beauty? Did you have it? Did the old me have it?

TL;DR: Eden's a HI3rd character with themes/motifs around music, beauty, elegance, and so on. I think it would be cool to see an Eden expy in Honkai: Star Rail :)

Slightly longer TL;DR: Eden is a character whose story revolves around the meaning of beauty in an ugly world, a world in which terrible things happen to good people, in which the greatest and bravest heroes of humanity fail to save the day. In spite of this, even as the last cities of Earth crumbled to dust, Eden still held steadfast on her belief, and she had faith that even though her era is now fading away, the new era of humanity would "script their own fate and sing their own songs."

So I've seen a fair bit of discussion about expys on the HSR subreddit from time to time, and I figured I'd have a go at this with my own post discussing a pre-existing Hoyoverse character I'd like to see in HSR someday!

This post is mostly aimed at an HSR audience so I've written it in a way that should be understandable even without any prior knowledge of HI3rd, but fellow HI3rd peeps might enjoy it too :)

The thought of this came to me when I was playing HI3rd earlier, because when I was looking at Eden's signature weapon, I was thinking "wow, I forgot how beautiful that was" and then it hit me- one of Eden's core themes as a character is Beauty, making her a perfect candidate to be a future Pathstrider of the Path of Beauty! Whether part of the Knights of Beauty or part of a different faction or even walking this path on her own.

There's going to be some light spoilers for HI3rd's story, but nothing that spoils major story beats. Eden is a character from the Previous Era, meaning most of her story takes place in the form of archives and records of the past. This post is pretty much all backstory, and I won't discuss any important "secrets of the past" meaning any big plot twists should remain unspoiled.

So if you're ambivalent or unconcerned about HI3rd spoilers, I'd say it should be okay to proceed, but if you want to play it safe then you should probably return to this post later. All of this is lore from the Elysian Realm, so if you're already familiar with that then there won't be any spoilers at all :)

That being said, this post does contain some pretty heavy content. Nothing particularly graphic or violent, but there is discussion of death and trauma so please keep this in mind!

Some quick context, to start with:

HI3rd's story takes place on Earth, and in this setting there have been multiple "past eras". Over the course of a civilization's development, powerful apocalyptic beings called "Herrschers" appear and wreck havoc upon the world. When the final Herrscher, the Herrscher of Finality*, descends upon the Earth it removes all trace of the current existing civilization... or whatever remains of it. Over the course of 50,000 years a new civilization develops in its place until someday Finality returns once more and the samsara repeats.

Eden is a character belonging to the Previous Era (PE), which is the civilization immediately preceding the Current Era (CE), which is the present-day setting of HI3rd.

*disclaimer: this Finality is not related to the Path of Finality. It's a matter of translation, since the original text uses different characters.

Eden was living a pretty great life- she was a superstar and she was filthy rich, with global tours and widespread fame. In fact, several of the other major characters of the Previous Era (such as Kevin and Su) were fans of her music! Singing, playing instruments, she could do it all. Naturally, she was a fervent supporter of the arts.

Despite this, Eden was still living a "normal" life- a life in which she was blissfully unaware of the looming threat of Honkai. She became painfully aware of it when disaster struck during a concert of hers in Sydney (the PE version of it, of course). During this concert but elsewhere in the city, the 7th Herrscher awoke: the Herrscher of Fire. Almost immediately the entire city was engulfed in raging fires. According to some sources, even the entire continent of Australia was destroyed, but this may have been retconned so take it with a grain of salt.

Eden was (un)fortunate enough to survive this disaster, being saved by one of the former Fire MOTH soldiers that was under the leadership of the person that became the Herrscher of Fire. Though Eden survived and still retained her public image and wealth, there was no returning to her past life. She ended up learning about the organization Fire MOTH, humanity's leading force fighting against the threat of Honkai. While she kept her usual public image, she would also use her wealth to help support MOTH.

The past is no more, but I can still remember this moment. This is what I can do right now.

Over time Eden grew to become a more active member of MOTH, until someday even she would end becoming a soldier herself. She witnessed the toll of war as fewer and fewer soldiers returned from battle and as the survivors became increasingly worn and weary. Though many people knew of her music and appreciated it, as the war went on Eden realized even her music had its limits to how much it could help people. Because of this, Eden chose to volunteer for a program that would give her the strength to fight alongside the rest of MOTH.

One of MOTH's many programs to fight Honkai was the MANTIS project: augmenting humans with the DNA of Honkai Beasts, granting them tremendous power. If they survived the Meta-Morph surgery. Eden underwent this program and survived, placing her as part of an elite force with the strength to fight the Herrschers head-on.

Plus she got a sick pair of guns! so that's pretty neat ^.^

Unfortunately, we know how this story ends. We call it the Previous Era precisely because it ended. Even humanity's greatest heroes couldn't stop the crushing power of Finality.

Eden would not live to see the next era of humanity.

With this summarized backstory of Eden in mind, I'd like to share a few archive entries from HI3rd, featuring Eden. I was originally going to try and summarize and discuss these lore entries myself, but I think it'd be best to keep my thoughts to a minimum and provide the full text instead, so anyone reading this can think about it for themselves and come to their own conclusions instead of taking my word as law.

First, we have one of the records discussing the events of the awakening of the 7th Herrscher. Do note that I snipped out a portion of this archive to shorten it and reduce spoilers, so it's not the complete version found in-game.

Another part of Eden's backstory I want to mention is the way Eden interacted with another major member of Fire MOTH, Dr. Mobius.

Mobius is a pretty complicated character, because while she seems to be a straightforward "mad scientist" type of character, there's a lot of nuance to her behavior and attitude. It's difficult to sum it up, but in this case I'll focus on how other people perceive her: very negatively.

Dr. Mobius' work was groundbreaking for genetics and biology, and her projects (including the MANTIS project as well as early versions of Project Stigma) were crucial in fighting Honkai. However, she was incredibly intimidating and her experiments were... questionable, to say the least. Cold and calculating, not someone to inflict needless cruelty but also someone who doesn't let silly little things such as "ethics" get in the way of progress.

Interestingly, Eden is probably one of the few people that was capable of interacting with Dr. Mobius in a positive way. Many people found it difficult to work under the supervision of Dr. Mobius and most would go out of their way to avoid her, but it seems that Eden was not one of them. This scene in particular is a good example of this:

At this point I think Eden's theme of Beauty is quite evident, and I could probably cut the post short here. But there's one final part of Eden's story I'd like to share, and since it's a scene involving Mobius it builds on the previous entry quite neatly. Since I'm going to end the post with this scene, I'll give my final thoughts first!

I don't really think it's worth worrying too much about expys and whatnot, because ultimately the important thing is whether a given character fits the story, not whether they look like a past character. If we get a "HSR Kiana" or an "HSR Kiana", what matters is the way they fit into this setting. The setting of Aeons and Paths, of a diverse set of factions vying for power and influence across the universe, and how the Nameless will cross paths with this character.

But I wanted to make this post anyways because I feel like Eden's story is greatly underappreciated, and since it has such a neat connection with the Path of Beauty.

Eden's theme of "Beauty" is not just about Eden being a beautiful person, nor is about her beautiful music. To me, it's her understanding of humanity and the way that the arts allow us to connect with each other. It's her ability to reach out and connect with a person as cold and calculating as Mobius. It's just as Eden says, "something that makes people happy, guides the way, and sparks hope."

Just something to keep in mind when reading this final archive entry. I've also re-attached the same image from the start of the post, since I think it takes on a much more powerful meaning with this scene in mind.

Gross Matter as Symbolic Sex in Good Omens

“I do not sully the temple of my celestial body with gross matter" - Archangel Gabriel at 13:36 of GO S1:E1. In this instance, gross matter means food. What does that mean with all the meanings food has taken on in Good Omens? Food in literature, and I’m including TV Good Omens under literature, is never just food. It tells us about characters - what they think is normal, what is available to them, their social standing, their backgrounds. Food also serves as metaphor, most famously (and relevant to GO) the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, original sin. In the same tradition but with a very different meaning is the Eucharist, bread and wine standing in for the human flesh of Christ being consumed “for the forgiveness of sin.” Those are the big two in stories based in traditionally Christian traditions. Evil food = fruit, especially apples, and good food = bread, wine, human flesh.

Ironic that fruit has to rot before it’s morally pure. 

Food is often also used to stand in for the things we can’t say with words. It often represents sex. Even in emojis, think about eggplants and peaches. Food is used to communicate sexual desire all the time. This is true in Good Omens too - Aziraphale’s tempting Crowley to oysters prepared by Petronius, famed Ancient Roman smut writer, suggests we should be looking for those meanings. Oysters were considered an aphrodisiac (substance that supposedly increases sexual desire and behaviour) a term which comes from Aphrodite, goddess of love, lust, pleasure, and procreation, who rose from the sea in a shell much like an oyster. 

Take, Eat

Food is gross matter, and Aziraphale is strange for consuming it. “But you're an angel,” says Gabriel to Aziraphale in S1E1. Aziraphale doesn't need to eat. He chooses to. Food is something he enjoys (although he can't admit that to Gabriel in S1E1 - food is a forbidden pleasure). If Gabriel codes food as bad, as original sin, what does that say about Aziraphale? Aziraphale's enjoyment of “gross matter” is representative of his being tempted by a demon, and in the Job minisode we see that this is somewhat true. Crowley, the Serpent of Eden, did introduce Aziraphale to food. Unlike Eve and the forbidden fruit, Crowley did not do this as an agent of Hell. Crowley, when he suggested food to Aziraphale, was being friendly. This was also the scene where Crowley defied both Heaven and Hell and we see how little Gabriel understands of humans… and partnered activities like sex. 

Food is also a partnered activity. When Aziraphale wants food, he also wants companionship. He was perfectly capable of escaping from the French prison himself, but he wanted Crowley to rescue him so they could go on their date and get crepes together. Food and companionship are linked. 

Remember that food is gross matter. Is it the only gross matter serving this purpose? I don't think so.

Uriel describes the matchbox as a “material object” and they, Michael, and Muriel are surprised by its presence in Heaven. Material means having matter and like the “gross matter” of food was seen as unbefitting an angel, material objects do not belong in Heaven. They, especially Michael who is behind the desk, in a clear position of Heavenly power, are intimidated by it. 

Of course, the matchbox is also gross matter in that a demon gave it to the angel they were interested in. Like Crowley offered Aziraphale an ox rib (which he ate in a very salacious manner - blowjob meat, anyone?) Beelzebub gave Gabriel the matchbox.

This is my Body

“This is my body, given for you, do this in remembrance of me.” Jesus at the Last Supper, quoted at the Eucharist

Beelzebub is Lord of the Flies. Their gift to Gabriel is a fly, an aspect of themselves, and they put it in a matchbox. We have the image here of Beelzebub inserting themselves into something which ends up in Heaven, and also of Beelzebub offering Gabriel a mostly empty box. A body and a body cavity. Their body and their body cavity, offered to Gabriel as gross matter, as a gift. This is my body, given for you.

Do this in remembrance of me. The fly contains Gabriel's memories (Gabriel entering the representation of Beelzebub's body) and when the fly (Beelzebub) enters Gabriel - when he takes their given body - he remembers.

The other box we see is the box in The Arrival, and in that box… 

Whether or not you think Gabriel actually has an Effort of any kind  in this scene, it's a dick in a box joke. Dicks go in boxes. Boxes are for sex.

Boxes (which are gross matter) are scary to Heaven and Hell! Michael is afraid to touch the matchbox, Dagon tries to physically protect Shax, Furfur, and Beelzebub from the bigger box in the finale. Shax and Furfur are also moving back, but not Beelzebub, which tracks. Beelzebub doesn't need to be afraid of their own relationship with Gabriel. 

Heaven and Hell as institutions very much are opposed to those connections and to the representations of them.

Romana II's costumes, rated

What a costume to open on. I love this. I love that it reminds us that Romana - even this younger-looking, more playful Romana - remains the Doctor's equal, being his costume, but pink. I love the details - the necklace, the white shirt with the pink pinstripes, the weird high-waisted pink trousers that we barely see, and the first of many outstanding pairs of boots. Above all I straightforwardly love how good this looks. Pink is undeniably Lalla Ward's colour. 10/10, setting the bar high.

As seen in City of Death.

So this costume has a very sweet backstory behind it. Lalla Ward hated wearing school uniform, and thought that the little girls watching Doctor Who might feel better about school if they saw a favourite character wearing the same kind of thing as they had to wear. Which is adorable. And then she got heaps of letters from pervy man. Which is... less so. 3/10, for the thought?

As seen in the Creature from the Pit.

I could either get a decent photo or one that showed the whole costume, so I chose the former. You're not missing much in the bottom half, it's a sort of floaty Grecian affair with a wide belt. They seem to have dressed Lalla Ward as Mary Tamm for this one. Her hair looks pretty, though. 5/10.

As seen in Nightmare of Eden.

This is it, this is the worst Romana costume. There's a sort of institutional vibe, like it might have been sewn from prison curtains. Every decorative detail - the massive bow, whatever's going on with the skirt - makes it worse. How did they manage to make Lalla Ward look so drab? And it looks at least a size too big for her, too. 0/10.

As seen in The Horns of Nimon.

This is more like it. It's clearly a fox-hunting outfit, which in the UK has connotations that are... let's just go with problematic. But Romana doesn't hunt any foxes in this episode, as far as I can remember, so I think it's OK for me to like the costume. Which I do. 9/10.

As (not*) seen in Shada.

Yes! Some people have faces that belong in a particular era, and doesn't Lalla Ward have such an Edwardian face? No wonder, then, that this is such a wonderful costume. I want to wear it myself, and then spend a day lounging in a punt with a good book. The only danger is that I would try to eat the trim on the hat. 100/10.

Apparently the Edwardian look was so good in Shada, they decided to do it again? This time Romana appears to be in an Edwardian boy's sailor suit. As an aside, I love how her costumes switch back and forth between historical men's styling and traditional feminine dresses. This costume is more fun than flattering, but I like it. 7/10.

As seen in Meglos.

This costume is... a lot. I mean, even next to what Lexa's got on, it's a lot. There's actually so much texture on this, I can't fully make out what's going on, and that's before we get to the world's largest sleeves. I think this is one of the few times that it feels like the costume dominates Romana, which is a pity, because I would otherwise be on board with the Henry VIII vibe. 4/10.

I wish I had a decent-quality full-length photo of this costume, because it includes a long red skirt that's quite fetching. I enjoy the contrast between the military jacket and the dainty lace shirt. Red is a good colour on Romana II. 8/10.

As seen in State of Decay.

Another one where Romana is essentially in historical male drag, in the kind of outfit you would expect a gentleman to wear in the country. Only she has her hair down and it's all carefully fitted to Lalla Ward's figure, so it barely registers as GNC. I think that's a really fun costuming decision, and also I want this outfit. 10/10.

As seen in Warriors' Gate.

A disappointing costume to end on. I mean, it's perfectly nice. But if I decided that I wanted to dress for the job I want (Time Lady in E-Space) rather than the job I have (middle management) and rocked up to the office in this, I doubt anyone would register it as unusual. made it sound like he personally set it up that way.

But for what reason exactly?

While I had my doubt about the whole situation,

my mind was more so preoccupied by thoughts of Ruki-kun. 

How should I apologize to him when we meet?

However, rather than what to say (何を言うよりも) , I just wanted to wrap my arms around him already.

I don’t need any words.

A pang of pity came over her hearing his reply. She shook it off. No, no way in hell was she going to feel sorry for Rafe Cameron not in a million years. Yet here she was moving slightly closer to him, curiosity was all it was she told herself. It looked like he had been crying she wanted to know what could possibly have the Big bad Rafe in tears.

“Are you okay?” The look he gave her was icy and full of rage but for some reason she knew the rage wasn’t directed at her. “ You need to pull yourself together before you go back out there” he nods swallowing hard nodding to himself. “So do you” he replied. This was true she wasn’t in much better shape than he was, although at least she wasn’t crying.

If her brother found her here she thought that would be the end of it,let alone if JJ saw these two together.

This was insane was she really going to comfort him, he terrorised her daily, before he finished school it was a living hell for her because of him. Not to mention everything he’d done to the pogues her family.

Taking a deep breath she sat down beside him. This wasn’t the Rafe she knew, the cocky patronising kook persona had faded away leaving a scared angry shell of him behind. He ignored her presence and she ignored his. Sitting there they just looked out onto the ocean the tide starting to tread against their feet.

The alcohol had definitely gotten the better of the both of them otherwise this would definitely not be happening right now.

“Care to tell me whats up with you” she asked cooly not wanting to come off too eager to know. He shrugged his shoulders not answering her staring straight. He had straightened himself up no longer hunched like before.

“ You know i hate you” he sighed, it sounded like he was trying to convince himself more than her.

“The feeling is mutual believe me.”

“I dont have it in me to hate you right now” he turned slightly toward her. She nodded understanding what he meant, the two of them would sit her in eachothers company not acknowledging that they actually despise eachother. Eden knew exactly why he wanted that, same reason she did. Peace.

Just a moments peace, no kooks no pogues, no constant battle with one another.

While she sat there with the Kook king, guilt overwhelmed her, here she was with someone who never showed her an ounce of kindness in her entire life and the people she loved she adored were out there waiting for her. Probably worried about where she was. Guilt turned into anger and she shot up from her spot beside him. “ You know what cameron” she spat, “you may not have it in you to hate me but I definitely have it in me to hate you!”

Rafes head turned towards her lip curling in disgust, the broken boy before her disappearing completely. “ You know what i think?” He stood again facing her. “I think you’re not a kook, but you’re not a pogue either, caught in the middle nowhere that you really belong.”his smile was cold. He grabbed me wrapping his arm around my wrist tightly. “I swear if you tell anyone we were here together.”He sounded slightly paranoid,Eden didn’t notice she was still focused on his first comment, it stung. Not because it was nasty or cruel but it was true. That’s exactly what it was like, caught in-between two lives never really fitting into either one. Tears welled up in her eyes, desperately she willed them to stop. Her semi-drunk state making her more emotional than usual. She regretted slapping him earlier but as her fist connected with his nose relief washed over her. The tears started, as she screamed at him hitting him again, he laughed almost as if enjoying seeing her lose her grip. “Theres the eden we know” he coughed blood dripping down his face. He wasn’t even fighting back. He wanted her to hit him. But why? She stopped, giving him a questionable look.

Rafe shrugged his shoulder wiping the blood with back of his hand. He ran a bloodied hand through his hair.“You know you scare me.” He stood there covered in blood a serious expression on his face. “I,I scare Rafe Cameron?”

He nodded, walking down to the water washing his face. He hissed at the salt water connecting with the cuts she gave him. Looking back as if wanting her to follow him. She careful made he way towards him still swaying slightly. Was this a trap?

“Everyone needs to let off a little steam but don’t make it a habit, i gave you one free pass, next time ill hit you back.” She believed him, its something Rafe would do in a heartbeat. Shes seen the way he treats his sister Sarah a sort of friend towards you in school. Its not pretty.

Eden stood there awkwardly not knowing how to react to Rafe, he was extremely unpredictable.

“ Look” he sighed. “I just want some peace, if I can’t get it ill just leave but its a shame I really do love this little beach.”

He rubbed his eyes pushing the palms of his hands into them. I mean the least she could do was let him stay she had just let out a couple weeks possibly years of anger out on him without as much as a slap in retaliation.

“ Swear to me”

“Swear to me Rafe that if we’re here at the same time its as equals”

He looked a her with an unreadable expression.

“ Swear that while we’re both on this beach theres no kook king or pogue princess bullshit, just two people enjoying their peace.”

He remained still at the water.

“I swear”

Smirking slightly he put his pinky finger forward.

“What are we 5?” she connected my pinky with his reluctantly.

“I better go”she rubbed her neck awkwardly not knowing what had just happened between them.

He nodded turning back towards the water as she made her way up the rocks and over onto the main beach. Looking back she saw his figure throwing stones out into the water. Hes not a good person she thought to herself, she would make sure she was never on that beach as the same time as Rafe Cameron again.

Snapping her from her thoughts she felt an arm around her shoulder. “Edennnnnn, where were you dudee?” Her smile widened facing the blonde beside her she placed her head on his shoulder. “JJ, i was just getting a beer but there was none left.” The blonde grinned cheekily pushing a red cup into her hands before guiding her back to her friends, their concerned expressions fading the minute the two of them came into view.

Sitting down beside kie, john b shot her a look that screamed we need to talk. Eden ignored it hoping he hadn’t seen her with a certain unstable kook.

Soon she was tipsy again, her and pope having a rap battle. Laughter roared from the pogues around her. Wiping tears from her eyes as they got ready to leave. Eden felt someone staring in her direction. Not wanting her suspicions to be confirmed she bolted towards the pogues linking arms with kie as they giggled stumbling back to the chateau.

Rafe sipped his drink while topper spouted some bullshit about Sarah. All he could focus on was her. He knew he he hated her just as much as she did him. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t tolerate her in some way right?

The beach was a strange experience for both of them. He hoped he’d never have to speak to her again. He really needs to learn his tolerance he thought to himself. He was absolutely hammered.

The typical trashy prime-time realty show was playing on the TV, Eden was sitting on the couch. She was intent on the phone with Chloe to help her choose a dress; Johnny had invited her to a well-known Japanese restaurant in town and she didn't know what to wear.

"That dress we bought in Camden" the woman with the long raven hair recalled, they had bought it recently although Chloe was initially hesitant.

She did not usually wear such short dresses, she preferred longer dresses, it was Eden and Aly who had told her to buy it and Val had suggested the leather jacket. It had been a carefree day among girls, away from their boyfriends and the problems that had been boring the group lately.

"Don't you think that's going too far? I wouldn't want people to then" Chloe on video call took the dress with a questioning expression. She needed a confidence boost.

"People go to hell Clo Clo, and just in case I can get there and detach heads"

"Maybe better not" the purple-haired girl giggled fearfully "I'll wear it, so Johnny will be happy too"

"That's the spirit Clo Clo" Eden's gaze was drawn to something, or rather someone in her vision.Had he put on the gray sweatpants on purpose?

"Last night I heard you murmuring. Plus are you wearing the sweatpants you wanted to throw away because they were too tight?" in a bored tone the female commented on the man's question, who swallowed the toad.

"I had a very nice dream that started like this" the Mancunian was interrupted by Eden, the brunette smirked. And to make him despair she had a brilliant idea.

"Why don't you tell me a little?' " she dragged him to the couch, then positioning herself on top of his thigh.

"I dreamed of a beach" he cleared his throat, sighing at the contact of Eden's covered core with the tiny fabric that he could feel the warmth and wetness it gave off. Eden knew how to drive him crazy.

"Beach? I imagine the two of us on the sand and the waves of the ocean enveloping us. Maybe naked?" The brunette winked, sinuously moving her hips. Simon's huge hand rested on her hip, his cheeks warming.

"It's uhm... it's a good idea," his other hand rested under Eden's top, which was already singing victory.

"Just a good idea babe?"

"You're a threat, I don't think I'll hold out any longer. Bloody Jesus hell" Simon had lost complete lucidity, hypnotized by the movements of his woman, who like an enchanting siren approached his ear. One strap of the top she was wearing was already down.

"How about now you show me what we did on that beach?My good big boy "she grabbed him by both cheeks. That gesture was enough to find him pinning her under the surface of the couch, kissing her as if he hadn't eaten in days.

In financial circles, ES has gotten so big that there’s no way it can be ignored anymore.

I am unable to unabashedly rejoice and proclaim that everything went smoothly, and we all lived happily ever after.

Hiyori: Fufu. Well, there’s not a single unit who was in “SS” who can say that everything, from beginning to end, was a great success that went exactly as planned, now is there?

Our Eden is no exception. In the end, it was kind of forcibly undecided, but up until the middle of the main event the White Team went through a whole string of losses.

It kind of feels like our dignity as the overwhelming champions was wounded, you know?

People might start thinking “they act all self-important, but they’re not such a big deal after all,” or something.

Tsukasa: I don’t think that’s true at all.

Tori: Yeah, yeah! In my eyes, Eden was always shining, dazzling and far away - like, I was totally no match for you.

Moros Returns | Pt 1.

It was her off day and wow did something feel wrong.

She should have felt calm, cosy and warm. The fire was going, the pups were sleeping around it. She was wearing a cute little sweater that Tyler had gotten. But the big old house was empty besides her and the animals. Elisiel had been spending time at the Great Library with Eden lately. Thanatos was off doing what Thanatos did. And Tyler, as far as she knew, was off on a quick gig.

But the emptiness of the house wasn't what was wrong. There was a cold chill Mel couldn't shake, the feeling of being watched, the eyes on the back of her neck that wouldn't go away.

Then suddenly the feeling grew stronger and the aura became a stench she knew all too well. By the time he fully appeared in her living room, Mel was ready. Or at least, she thought she was. Moros had her by the throat before she even caught sight of him.

"Hello again little one."

"Get. Out. Of. My. House." She managed the words through clenched teeth and tried to reach out to grab him, to suck the life from him. To drain him of everything that made him alive.

"Oh you're so adorable to think that will work," he laughed and this time he tossed her away like a bag of garbage into the bin.

Mel landed on her shoulder and kept her groan to herself. The force with which he tossed her had sent shockwaves through her entire body, but thankfully her floorboards remained intact. Silly thought to have at this moment, she chided herself.

"What do you want this time?" she snapped, "I'm not going to 'eat the world' or whatever, haven't you learned that yet?"

Moros circled his side of the room as if waiting for her next move. And gods she was going to give it to him even if it was the last thing she did. She was getting real tired of this shit.

"You will...one day...maybe sooner rather than later. But right now I need a favor."

"A favor!" Mel disappeared from where she stood, but Moros grabbed her by the wrist before she finished materializing, flipping her and slamming her down to the ground. Something sharp pinned her shoulder in place and she let out a loud cry.

"I need Thanatos. Call for him!"

"Eat shit."

The sharpness in her shoulder twisted and she grit her teeth against the pain. This was far less agonizing than the last visit for sure. Something was off. Something was always off when it came to Moros. "Call to him!"

"NO!"

"Fine. I've already paid a visit to your girlfriend, she was no help either..."

Mel drug herself up, digging the sharp edged knife further into her shoulder. She grabbed him by his perfect suit and pulled him closer with a yank. He did not stop her. How strange. What was his game?

"You touch her and I'll kill you - I'll find a way to end you. I won't rest until you burn."

He grinned, a sideways crooked kind of smile that lit up his features in a grotesque way that didn't seem like it belonged there. "I'd like to see you try," he said yet again and some part of Mel started to wonder if he really DID want to see her try. If that was the point of all of this.

"But alas, our time is up. The Doorway is here to take you away."

Mel felt her stomach lurch with a sudden sense of fear. "No. Not again. Don't do this...." The Doorway would keep her from getting to Tyler, would keep her from her home, would keep her away again for who knew how long.

"Just call for Thanatos. And you get her back. You save the day!"

That's all she had to do. Than, I need you. But she couldn't say it out loud, couldn't give in. No matter how much she wanted to avoid the Doorway, no matter how much she wanted to save Tyler from Moros.

She had to do it. For Tyler.

"Than...Thanatos please..."

He grabbed her by the chin and smiled. "Good girl."

And the air behind her grew chilly as the Doorway opened behind her, tugging violently at her with a gust of wind. "No! You said -Moros you--"

"I didn't promise."

And then he pulled free the knife holding her in place, the Doorway pulling her back into it's reaches yet again. Falling back and back and back into that place in between worlds. The place in between everything.

Yup, Remus has a canary familiar named Persephone! He carved her out of wood when he was trying to learn how to cast spells, and the first one he learned was Find Familiar and turned his little canary statue real :)

Sigrun: I really love how I've constructed her family situation -- going from a single dad trying his best but being actively hunted by religious extremists, to living with her violent clan leader mom who kind of terrorized her but also is one of her strongest supporters and a huge mentor figure/influence in her life. Then after both of them disappeared, falling in with a new band of mercenaries that are her best friends and partners as well as their Collective Dwarf Father Figure, until they disappeared as well. I love her connections to other people and how sensitive she is to abandonment even though she's a big strong viking in the meantime.

Eden: To be honest I kind of love how I've integrated his racial attributes, classes, and backstory all together so that he really Belongs to his setting if that makes sense. He's a storm genasi trapped in the desert who uses his own internal lightning to power his little makeshift lightsaber that he built himself to attract storms/water. I like how everything about him is built to Survive and how he uses EVERYTHING at his disposal

Remus: WIFE WIFE WIFE CAN'T WAIT TO SHOW OFF HIS CUTE WIFE AND HOW THESE TWO ARE MADLY IN LOVE -- basically we've flavored all his magic items as Ordinary Objects that represented his love for his wife that got infused with magic when he lost his memory in a Magical Explosion. So like -- the red string that he wears as a necklace USED to carry his wedding ring, and now it gives him a bonus to his constitution <3

Kestrel: Is there anything sexier than a wizard trapped in the most Dire of situations deciding to claw out his own magical powers and knowledge to keep it from falling into the wrong hands, relying on his conviction that if he was smart enough to figure out how to be a high level chronurgy wizard once he'll be able to do it again from scratch. and turning himself into an unstable nightmare in the meantime. LOVE HIMMM

Remus: No, this man has the self esteem of a wet paper bag and thinks he's a scared weak idiot (has no concept of how crazy it is to have a 20 con and a 22 strength). He thinks he's "special" in that he has no fucking memories and Explodes when he gets anxious and gets premonitions of the future but that's caused nothing but problems in his life

Hello Enstarries~☆ It is the 10th part already! With the trio Switch here! There really are a lot of idol (groups) to go through huh....I think I get now how the wayback machine works, so I hope I can finish this series next week or so to finally begin reading the "!" stories. Ngl, it's a lot more enjoyable to learn about everyone like this. I'd probably be too lazy otherwise lol.

You wouldn't think they're magicians at first glance, which is not a bad thing. Honestly, I don't have a lot to say about them. Their outfits are decent. A bit weird maybe. Sora's variation is the only good looking one. That's because the shoes just don't fit with the long trousers and the big thunder symbol with its thick black outlines on the vest look ugly and it's kind of too much with a third color (red/blue). And I don't like the zippers. Or the belts. I like the the necklaces though. Their music is pretty decent, too. At first, it wasn't really to my taste but it does make for nice background music, is what I discovered after going shopping and having Switch songs come up. It's generally upbeat but a bit more lowkey compared to Trickstar. I

A bit funky I think and hmmm...idk how to say this but it often uses these snyth instruments??? I have no idea what you call them but like, sounds that don't belong to a classical intrument, y'know? I sound like a grandma. I guess they kind of give the music the sparkle, as they're modern magicians and all. I like I "witch" you a happy Halloween and Omoi no kakera. Oh, I almost forgot to mention this, it's neat how everyone has hair highlights.

5/10 - average but they have some good songs

Natsume Sakasaki

I do adMIT. While reading his Ep.1, I was more or less distracted by his magic of changing the text font as well as his speech haBIT. Maybe anone can do it and I just haven't seen it yet? But I saw that when he talked to Tsumugi it also changed? I cringed when he called us kitten. He seems like a gentleman but I just....don't vibe with him. He has a nice voice, though. It's rich and thick like condensed milk but not as sweet. He's a fortune teller so...yeah. Nothing comes to mind. Looks pretty chill otherwise.

4.5/10 - a dude but ehhhhh

Tsumugi Aoba

Why does everybody hate him? Perhaps my brain is exaggerating some memories but I remember him being really dunked on by magic redhead anytime he exists and a lot of others as well? His memes show him very pathetically if I remember right. He does seem to be a bit of a pushover but not really meek? I want to say I like his fluffy hair but somehow I hesitate. He has a normal voice but smoother than the average. Like, milk. Normal 3,5% fat milk instead of plain still water.

5/10 - a dude with glasses

Sora Harukawa

I think he's genuinely bebi but I can't bring myself to not dislike his voice. It's like muffled blackboard scratching. I thought he was just a normal happy go lucky sunshine shota but the bit of him having synesthesia came outta nowhere. I wonder if it's just like a trivial trait of his or if it's more explored. I was convinced that he didn't go through anything too hard but when he apologized for his laugh and talked about wanting to experience others perspectives, it gives me the feeling he definitely has experienced some kind of rejection due to his condition and general personality as well. Which is sad, you shouldn't apologize for being happy and expressing it, unless the situation is inappropiate ofc. That might also be the reason why he wants to bring happiness to others in need, like he once was. Btw his laugh is indeed a bit annoying. I'm sorry 🤧 maybe I'll get used to it with time.

5.5/10 - apple juice, smth most like but I prefer to drink only once a month

Conclusion

This part might actually be shorter than Valkyrie's 🗿 Switch is just very lukewarm.

Now, just a small pet peeve rant that came to me after Natsume's Ep.1, that not necessarily just applies to him specifically, but I really hate the trope of "Oh, be careful around wolves, I am also one of them you know?" I know it's supposed to bring the fact, that they're potential love interest as well, to attention but to me it just seems like they're saying they're fucking perverts. Like, shouldn't you be happy, she feels comfortable enough with you to be in the same room or smth? Women especially know just how dangerous the world can be for them specifically, let them feel safe for 1 sec asshat. Like, doesn't Japan have train sections for women only bc the harassments got that bad? Women always hear to be careful at night, watch for their drinks, have some self-defense or escape tips, etc. Not attacking another person, let alone a women, should be fucking normal. Not even common decency. What is romantic about that?????? I know they all just mean it jokingly and all but I just cringe, whenever that happens. If you're already in an established relationship, that's a bit different but otherwise it's just weird and uncomfortable.
