The worst part about the "mansplainer Gale truthers" is that it comes with a fundamental misunderstanding of what mansplaining is. To mansplain is to have a subconscious bias against women or queer people that makes a (cishet, white) man assume he knows better than someone else without evidence (or despite evidence to the contrary), and as such condescendingly over-explain common or industry-standard information to them. One of the formative essays on the topic, published in 'Men Explain Things To Me' by Rebecca Solnit, is about an anecdote wherein the author introduced herself as a writer to a man who then explained her own essay to her, while bulldozing any attempt by her and a female friend to reveal that she'd in fact written the book that he was pretending to be an expert on. The man listened to her introduce herself as a writer on a particular topic, and had so little respect for her intelligence that he thought he would explain the subject to someone that had just told him she was an expert, while he himself admitted to only ever reading the blurb of her book.

While Gale being condescending is to some degree a matter of interpretation, it is objectively true that he knows more than the player, regardless of class choice. He was an archmage and Mystra's chosen, if the player was anywhere near his level of expertise he would've known about them already, especially if they're a wizard (which is the only magic class that goes through formal educational institutions and could be expected to know the things he lore-dumps about). Beyond that, in most of his lore-dump scenes he is addressing the entire party, the only magic user of which (Shadowheart) is also an amnesiac. It's safe to say his assumption that he knows more about magic/magic history than the rest of you is both valid and accurate.

It isn't mainsplaining when literally one of the top 10 experts in a given field explains something to you, and misusing the term just invalidates people who actually experience and try to call out mansplaining. Mansplaining originated in an uneducated guy believing he had the right to explain a subject to a woman he knew to be an expert. Literally all Gale's done his entire life is study magic, let the man infodump.

Have you all noticed how Simon's outfit changes over the course of the show? He goes from his original outfit to his Ice King robes, to a worn suit with a blue tint, and then back to his normal Simon suit. I think this visually shows that Simon is slowly realizing he actually doesn't want to ever be Ice King again, even if he keeps saying that he has to. Considering it was his most fucked up version yet who gave him back his Simon outfit, it also probably symbolizes that he's remembering what's important in his life: finding Betty, not "fixing" Fionna and Cake's world. It was thinking about Betty that kept him relatively harmless in Adventure Time. The Winter King doesn't have that and is much more destructive than the Ice King ever was. I think this is especially explicit when he asks the Winter King about Betty and he replies he doesn't think about her anymore, and it's even more so when you consider this scene starts with Simon commenting on getting back his old suit.

Kinda wish that people would be giving the same kind of criticism and scrutiny to Internet Historian that they have been giving to James Somerton. IH is a much bigger and more well known channel and his cave video got a lot more attention. Like I know his video got taken down, and he's only done this to one video (that we know of) but he employed the same sort devious tactics to try and hide his plagiarism, so would be nice to see the same sort of outrage for him too.

General students of Darkwick + Jin theory

Clarification: What's up with the general student populace at Darkwick? I'm pretty sure the answer is that they aren't ghouls in any way based on the fact sorting of new ghoul students is a big deal and 'sways power' in the beginning, and there's also this huge plot-point about the discrimination ghoul students face. But going back and reading some of the prologue chapters where the PC is first learning about Darkwick made me sort of curious about it. Reading the newest Mortkranken chapter, it's clear that there are general populace students going out to deal with anomalies frequently enough that they might need treatment for injuries and curses. But if they aren't ghouls, are they just recon? How are general education students allowed in? It's said Darkwick is super 'competitive' at one point but with what we know about Darkwick in general that's at best a loose-truth. Also, looking specifically at Frostheim for this- a lot of them are upper echelon students. Fair enough that there are plenty who come from different backgrounds, but isn't it funny that so many of them come from families in places of power and privilege? Are these families directly funding anomaly research?

Another point, less related to general students: isn't it crazy that Jin, the son of the guy running the whole Darkwick branch in Japan, just happens to have become a ghoul? I mean, maybe it's just a coincidence (because if Yuri's explanation of demon compatibility is to be believed, he just happened to not be allergic to demon dust) but that's pretty fucked up circumstantially speaking. They're already in a position of power, but what if it was something they wanted to make concrete? His mother died of mental illness, and his relationship with his father is strained. Was his father using his own family as test subjects for anomalous research? Did Jin make a deal with a demon because his father was pressuring it, or because maybe he wanted to save his mother (though he ultimately failed). If the stigma each ghoul gets is based off a desire they had, and Jin's stigma is the authority to force commands, what's more desirable to the heir of a powerful institution? How old was he when he even made the pact? Was he a kid who just wanted control, or was it a want drilled into him from a young age?
