On one hand I'm against dictating what people can and can't do in fandom, if you don't like something move along tags and summaries exist for a reason, but on the other hand I've seen so many people use the fact it's fandom or outright saying that Yelena is not aroace anywhere in canon as an excuse to ship her and it really rubs me the wrong way considering we get such little rep as it is and then when we do get that rep it's immediately erased and people make excuses such as "Oh but you aceys always say you're still able to have sex and have romantic relationships :)" and it feels like the only time allos acknowledge that fact is when they're not capable of seeing a character without that amatonormative lense

Sorry for the minor rant, this whole shipping Yelena situation is very frustrating for me

Mm yeah - I figure unless it's explicitly done (and even if it is) there will be people who won't be aware she's aroace or will still put it aside to headcanon different orientations or ship her with people. Which is why I generally stick with "if you're rejecting canon then try to know what it is" so you can at least acknowledge what you're sidestepping/accept what canon is when you do so.

I've seen less aspec rep (and microlabel rep) in media than other types so getting annoyed when those few that are canon get ignored is understandable. As long as the person knows what Yelena is or indicates they do I wouldn't fight over it since it's non-explicit in the MCU. Saying that they can still have romantic/sexual relationships while being aroace isn't wrong but people should probably have a basic understanding of the labels/how they work or it can and will become a tiring argument I guess... especially since so much of fandom revolves around ships 😔

#I mean #you can't really control a fandom #and aspec labels often get the added benefit of being able to overlap with so many other things #so I don't consider it a personal slight even if I feel iffy about it?#but then I only don't feel that way about other characters because in what i've seen there tends to be more lesbian/bi/gay rep #trans/nb/ace rep i have personally seen less canon of so i'm a bit (ง'̀-'́)ง about it #everyone's experience is different and all #I just run around waving my arms and going ''SHE'S AROACE" and if someone goes ''oh i didn't know!'' or ''oh i know!'' they're both chill #not my business unless someone is legitimately arguing within canon #and even then since it's mainly subtext/offscreen it's *sigh*#you definitely have a right to be frustrated/angry though #I'm not picky over Loki personally since he's been in the comics/MCU for a while and I've been HCing he's aspec for a bit #but he gets shoved into gay/bi/pan/trans in various amounts constantly lmao #which is why I simply also HC all the other sexualities even though that's the reading I see as closest to canon myself #it's like how he's supposed to be canonly bi in the MCU but I wouldn't've known if i hadn't seen the director's announcement 😔#I have gone off topic #the MCU is wild anyway and I don't trust them #which would not be an entirely inaccurate thing for me to say about most fans i've seen online anyway?#everyone i know is chill with yelena being aroace though so i guess that prevents problems #i've also seen many people posting about it so that's good!!!
