one of my favorite bits to mull around in my head in journal 3 is dipper describing going through stan's mind. they opened hundreds of doors. hundreds. and not a single one contained ford.

i can't stop thinking about it. how hard do you have to repress all thoughts of a person so the only thing that remains is a repeating lonely vignette that they're not even in. how deep do you have to shove all those memories down. and that's just his subconscious. what does that mean for his thoughts while he's awake? he goes down into the basement fairly regularly. he's got to be thinking of ford while he's down there. he's not completely wiped from his mind. so has he become so practiced at compartmentalization that he only thinks of ford while he's down there?

i'm about to make an absolutely wild comparison but it's the only one i can think of to properly convey what i'm trying to say so bear with me here.

so, famed human leatherworker ed gein lived with his mother his whole life. her death is when his mental state started to really deteriorate. they lived in a respectably sized farmhouse. and when she died, he boarded up her bedroom (among other rooms he associated with her but i'm focusing on the bedroom here), and left it completely untouched for year and years, no one laying eyes on it until he was arrested. he lived in squalor in the other rooms of the house, never cleaning up after himself, letting it rot and fall to ruin. but her bedroom was pristine. you see what i'm getting at here.

now obviously stan never kept any part of the shack untouched and pristine after the incident. he definitely made it his own over the years. but when i think about the utter lack of ford in his subconscious. when i think about how the first 18ish years of his life were so inextricably linked to his brother and the only memories the twins see from that time are totally divorced from him. when i think about how one of worst days of his entire life and its subsequent ripples on the rest of his life are nowhere to be seen. when i think about the too perfect metaphor of the basement, hidden away, deep beneath the home. it just makes me wonder how the hell he navigated these thoughts in his day to day.

how do you reconcile it all?

easy: you don't.

My theory about the beef between Spike and The Mario Brothers (Inspired by this post: X)

At some point, Luigi was pressured to over-perform while lifting heavy equipment at work, and because there was no proper oversight he ended up tearing a ligament in his knee. The Wrecking Crew covered the cost of his hospital visit and treatments, but tried to weasel out of wage-loss benefits, and Spike proceeded to try and gaslight Luigi into believing that the injury was his own fault, and that he should be grateful that the company covered what it did. Not on Mario’s watch. While Luigi was dealing with the injury Mario helped him see to it all the proper paperwork was filled out, all the details were logged, and all the correct authorities were notified to ENSURE he got proper compensation. 

Spike doesn’t exactly run the tightest ship, so he ended up with one or two OSHA citations by the end of the ordeal. Naturally, he’s furious, but legally he can’t do anything to retaliate except be the most passive aggressive asshat possible. Mario and Luigi put up with it for as long as they can, but eventually they decide that enough is enough and quit to form their own plumbing company. The rest is history.

Making this poll again with the correct options this time

I made this post before when I was extremely tired and left off a couple options

So I don’t go here etc etc but I’m starting to get a creeping feeling that there are a LOT of people on Tumblr who haven’t heard of House MD? And I am lightly perturbed about it. I never watched it when it was airing, but I knew the premise and that Hugh Laurie was in it through pop cultural osmosis, and I always had the impression that it was a popular show? Like it was a significant enough part of the pop cultural landscape that I think most people I knew would have known what it was

Have people just?? Forgotten about it?? Do the sands of time move that quickly? It only stopped airing like 10 years ago. Am I Old? Did I just move in weird pop culture circles when I was in middle school and it was never as popular as I thought it was?

Please tell me if I’m out of touch or if it’s the children who are wrong
