Motherfuckers be like: "[Insert character] is Not bi!!!"
WRONG! I am currently passionately making out with them, coating them in my bi cooties.
And because we're obviously working on kindergarten logic since you can't see an opposing idea without throwing a tantrum, this clearly means they're bi now :p

Since I just turned off reblogs on another post that quickly went from "let's have fun" to "this is fucking awful, I'm taking away this toy," please read this BlueSky thread from rahaeli, who I don't think is on here.
Most of it I've c/p for ease of readability bc BSky's threading sucks.
Okay, it's time again to talk about what the experience of having a social media account with a bunch of followers (*) is like. (* "a bunch" of followers is platform dependent. I'm getting irritating shit at 2k on Bluesky I didn't get until 10k on Twitter.)
(Ugh, wait, nevermind, I hit 3k while I wasn't looking. Anyway.) Someone who has never had more than 100 followers literally cannot comprehend the sheer volume of the responses you get. Even if individual posts don't get a ton of replies, if you post with any frequency, it accumulates.
Once you hit the first degradation threshold, your experience gets a little bit shittier. It's overwhelming volume, but the people who are following you are mostly ideologically, socially, and culturally aligned to you. You have the same concept of social media manners.
You'll get a few duplicate comments, because nobody reads the comments before they reply, but they're mostly from cool people, so you just roll your eyes a little at the same joke five times. You still make friends. You still have fun and can wind up finding neat new people.
And then those neat new people retweet your stuff, and it starts reaching out to an audience of people who are less aligned with what you think of as social media manners. You start getting some replies you find obnoxious: they're in good faith, you can tell, but they just grate on you sometimes.
And then *those* people start reposting your more viral threads, and you get people following you who are three degrees of separation from the people you are most likely to vibe with. And three degrees of separation is the second degradation threshold.
The second degradation threshold is where you start getting the constant, low-grade sand-in-a-pearl annoyances. The person who wants to argue with everything. The 15 people making the identical shitty "joke" that's actually just doing the exact thing you're complaining about, "ironically".
The people who look at a post that contains no question marks and think "there is an implied question here and I will answer it!" and leap to offer the most basic advice that you already thought of because you have existed for more than three seconds and can, in fact, think of the obvious answers.
The people who are spoiling for a fight no matter what, because you used one word in the post that is their particular berserk button and they're going to scream at you for hating waffles because you said you like pancakes even though you never mentioned waffles.
It is constant. It is never-ending. You cannot escape it. Every time you post anything at all, opening the app means wading through twenty garbage replies for every reply from someone who is actually cool and you'd vibe with just fine if you chatted with them.
You want to bitch about a minor annoyance? There will be 40 people all giving you the same useless advice. You want to squee about something you're enjoying that's making you happy? There will be 40 people coming to scold you because that thing isn't morally pure enough.
Every post. Every day. About 75% of the time you compose a post, you will get halfway through writing it and think "I can't deal with the replies this will get today" and delete it. You stop talking about things you enjoy, because you're tired of people shitting on them.
You stop complaining about the tiny annoyances in your life that you want to bitch about, because weirdly enough you already HAVE tried the first fifteen obvious suggestions you're going to get, and you don't want to spend an hour explaining why they won't work to everyone who's "helping".
(But you can't just ignore the "helpful" posts and not engage with them, because then you start getting accusations of being "elitist" and "standoffish" and jesus, lady, we're just trying to help here, why do you have to be so fucking rude and stuck-up, you full of yourself bitch.)
If you are any less gracious to the 40th person than that person thinks they deserve, there is a very good chance they're going to call you a cunt and drag allot their friends in to dogpile you and make the site unusable for at least three days.
The third degradation threshold is when you start needing to regularly call your local police department and politely remind them there are people who get very mad at you online and will try very hard to have you murdered by armed agents of the state and you'd appreciate it if they didn't do that.
I first had that conversation with my local police department in 2003. It's gotten faster now, at least? You usually don't have to start by explaining what social media even is.
Bluesky has tighter thresholds than Twitter did. On Twitter it was nicely exponential: the breakpoints were around 1k, 10k, 100k. Bluesky is running faster. I'm getting Twitter 10k annoyances at a Bluesky 3k. I am trying very, very hard not to switch over into Twitter 10k defensive posting.
I want to leave the defensive posting back on Twitter. I really do. I want to be able to bitch about a thing without having to wade through 20 "go try [extremely obvious thing]". I want to post about a thing I enjoy without 20 people yelling at me I'm bad for enjoyjng it.
There's a difference between arguing about an idea (which I love) and the onslaught of constantly infuriating replies plucking at your last goddamn nerve. And the more "last goddamn nerve" replies you get, the crankier you are, and then people lose their shit at you because you snapped at them.
So maybe let's all start keeping a few principles in mind: 1) if there's more than one reply, check to see if your point has already been covered. If it has, you don't need to repeat it.
2) Even the funniest joke gets old after the 20th time you hear it in 3 hours.
3) "I'm going to jokingly do the exact thing you just were complaining about because ha ha the real joke is I would never do that asshole thing" is never funny, and it is indistinguishable from you actually doing the asshole thing.
4) If there is no question mark in the tweet, think twice about offering "helpful" advice unless you and the poster know each other *mutually*, not just parasocially, you know it's likely to be new info for them, and you ask "do you want to hear how I handle this?" first and get an affirmative.
5) If you are going to ignore 4, ask yourself "is this a suggestion that someone with a reasonable level of generalized adult knowledge would think of trying within the first 15 minutes of approaching the problem?" If so, do not suggest it.
6) Do you really need to nitpick that grammar, spelling, or word choice? Did you understand what they were trying to say before autocorrect mangled it or they blanked on the exact word they wanted and found a close one? If you understood the meaning, don't be their volunteer copyeditor.
7) Is someone excited about a thing you hate? Are they having fun with the thing? Is the thing a front for white supremacist recruiting or organizing the overthrow of the US government? If the answers are yes, yes, and no, respectively, shut the fuck up and let people enjoy things.
8) We are all occasionally That Commenter. If someone you have a pre-existing relationship with replies to you and lets you know you're being That Commenter, it's because they have a positive enough impression of you they don't want to go straight to block. Treat this like the warning sign it is.
9) It deserves repeating: remember the Law of Large Numbers. Even if you only commented once, you may be the hundredth irritating comment that person got that day. Bluesky's terrible threading makes this worse: people don't keep a single thread of mounting crankiness the way they did on Twitter.
9a) If someone's top tweet sounds really annoyed at something, maybe check their timeline or follow back their nested self-QTs to see what level of irritable they're at and over what so you don't step straight on the same rakes they've been dodging all day.
10) However, remember that BSky also doesn't show replies made by people the OP has blocked in a thread. If they post about a pattern that's making them cranky and you look and don't see anything, they probably already blocked the worst of it. They still saw it in their mentions in order to block.
I really cannot overstate how absolutely exhausting and soul-destroying the experience of having a large account can be. It's also somehow still rewarding, or we wouldn't do it. But especially if you're a woman or a person of color or a female POC, that balance is really, really close most days.
And of course, the ones who stay are the ones who do find it still rewarding enough to keep doing it despite the constant irritations.
From here, the thread moves into a conversation about stuff specific to BlueSky, but the majority of the thread is truly applicable to Tumblr as well.
You may be the first person to comment "op lives on a planet without music," or "op has never heard of [thing OP didn't mention for whatever reason]," but you're probably not, and at a certain point, it becomes like someone tapping a sunburn.
So yeah.

After the girls had fallen asleep, Joel and Emily found a quiet corner of the dimly lit motel room to sit and talk. The years apart had left a broken heart between them, and yet, being in the same room again brought back all these memories. The bad and the good now face each other.
“The girls are sleeping”, Joel announced, while sitting beside Emily in a quiet corner of the dim motel room.
“Thank you for taking Beth with you,” Emily said.
Joel didn’t reply at first and only smiled. Then, Joel cleared his throat, breaking the heavy silence. "So, Beth…"
Emily nodded; her eyes focusing on her trembling fingers. "Yeah, Joel. She's yours."
Joel's gaze was fixed on the floor as he absorbed this revelation. He knew he had so many questions, but for now, the only one coming to his mind was one:
“Did you know it? before we signed the papers?”
Emily once nodded.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” his voice was barely a whisper and lingered with a tinted hurt “Don’t you think I had the right?”
They sat in silence for a moment, the weight of their past hanging in the air. Joel broke the silence, his voice gentle.
“You would have stayed with me out of pity,” she said, her voice heavy carrying the weight of the past.
Joel took a deep breath, his emotions still raw. "Emily, I don't know what would have happened if you had told me back then. But keeping something like this from me…”
"I was going to tell you at first, but- “
“But what?” he interrupted, yet not in a hard way.
Emily leaned back against the wall; her eyes distant as she began to tell Joel everything.
July 2003
The soft glow of candlelight flickered across the table, casting a warm, intimate ambiance over the restaurant. Emily and Joel sat across from each other, a hint of tension suffocating the air. They had been through a rough patch in their marriage during the last time. Sleepless nights without the soft ambiance of the beginning of their relationship.
Tonight's dinner was meant to be an attempt at reconciliation. Until it wasn’t.
Joel broke the suffocating silence, his voice tinged with fear. "Emily, we need to talk."
Emily nodded, her heart pounding in her chest at the news she had to share with him. However, something in his tone told her what he had to say wasn’t good. She had been dreading this conversation, knowing that it could make or break their relationship.
"I've been doing a lot of thinking," Joel continued, his gaze locked onto hers. "About us, about our marriage..."
Emily held her breath, waiting for what he would say next.
Joel didn’t wait for her to talk and he didn’t hesitate, before saying the next words "I think we need to get a divorce, Em."
Her heart dropped, and her eyes welled up with tears. No more nicknames, no more kisses, no more family. This was not what she had expected to hear tonight. She had hoped that their dinner would be a turning point, a refresh in her relationship.
"Why?" Emily asked, her voice trembling with a mix of emotions.
Joel met her gaze, his own eyes filled with uncertainty. "I'm confused, Emily. I don't know what I want anymore. I need time to figure things out."
Tears streamed down Emily's cheeks as the weight of his words sank in. She had come here tonight with the hope of telling him about her pregnancy, but instead, she found herself facing the cruel truth.
She chose not to tell Joel about her pregnancy, and she left the restaurant without uttering a word to Joel, with their marriage hanging heavily on her hands.”
Joel let out a heavy sigh, his shoulders slumping at Emily's words.
"The first days into the outbreak were hell," she said.
Joel let out a heavy sigh, his shoulders slumping. "Emily, I wasn't in a good place back then. I was confused and lost. I thought leaving was the best thing for both of us."
"The first days of the outbreak were hell," she said. “Mark saved me back then, but once he found out I was pregnant he wanted to find a way to terminate it because I was going to become a burden.”
Joel's expression darkened at the mention of Mark's name. He had felt nothing but hate for the man, and this revelation only added fuel to the fire.
Emily continued; her voice tinged with sadness. "I couldn't let him do it, Joel. I couldn't bring myself to end the only thing I had from the old life” she inhaled to recover her composure “But then Andy happened.” He smiled at the memory.
“Andy was the best man I knew. He saved me from myself and he helped me throughout the whole pregnancy. Then, once Beth was born, we escaped together, mainly for her, and we were in a QZ until Beth turned ten,” She paused to look at Joel. “The rest is history I don’t want to share, and now, I am reunited with an old pal.”
Joel smiled at the nickname “Just a pal?”
Emily met Joel's gaze, and a smile tugged at her lips. She chuckled "Andy was a dear friend, but you were always in my heart, Joel. No matter how much time passed."
Joel's eyes softened as he reached out to gently brush a strand of hair away from Emily's face. "I never stopped thinking about you, sun. You were my light."
"Maybe we have a chance now, Joel” she whispered, without taking her gaze off Joel’s.
Joel nodded, his arms wrapping around Emily, pulling her into a warm embrace.
"Joel," she said, her voice trembling with emotion, "I don’t want to risk yours and Ellie's life.”
“You won’t,” he said, “You can protect us, and I can protect you, okay? But you'll stay by my side. There's no way I'm letting you go.”
Emily could sense the conflicted emotions Joel was feeling inside, the concern and fear of losing her once again.
She pulled away from his embrace and they locked eyes. Thousands of memories were dancing on them, the love and the fifteen long years since they had each other, and the connection had never truly faded.
Joel's hand reached out to gently cup Emily's cheek, his thumb brushing away a stray tear that had escaped. He leaned in slowly, he could feel her breath until their lips met in a tender, longing kiss.
It was a kiss that spoke of years lost. It felt like the first they shared a long time ago when they were two naïve young people falling in love, and still, this one carried silent promises to each other, a second chance the world had given.
As they pulled away, their foreheads resting against each other, they both smiled and Joel stole more kisses. He never truly forgot the taste of her lips, and he tried to savor it on other women after her, but they couldn’t compare them to her. She was his, and he was hers.
And now, in that quiet motel room, he had her in his arms, finally reunited after all those years apart.
As the night wore on, Emily rested her head on Joel’s chest and they talked for hours. She shared stories of Beth’s childhood. Joel listened intently, his heart hammering for the moments he had missed.
But Joel also had stories, about Tess, Tommy, and what made Ellie cross paths with him. He told the truth to Emily and also confessed he was fond of the teen.
Despite the pain of skeletons plotting against them, there was a sense of closure in their conversation, a shared understanding that they were both doing their best to protect their little clan.
And they held each other close until they both drifted off to sleep.
Tumblr media
Later that day, the four of them were walking with a destination on their mind. Ellie and Beth were in front, meanwhile, Emily and Joel were walking behind them, side by side.
Emily noticed something different in Beth’s behavior, so she placed a gentle touch on Joel’s hand. He understood her silent signal and nodded in acknowledgment. They both quickened their pace, catching up with Ellie and Beth, who were walking ahead.
As they reached the girls, Emily gave Beth a warm smile and ruffled her hair affectionately. "Everything okay, sweetheart?"
Beth nodded; her expression unreadable as she looked up at her mother. “Sure.”
“Hey. You can’t tell me everything, you know that”, Emily said.
Beth glanced at Joel, her gaze briefly flickering with uncertainty before she turned back to her mother. "I know, Mom," she replied softly. "It's just... sometimes, it's hard to put into words."
Emily placed a reassuring hand on Beth's shoulder. "I understand, sweetheart. Just remember, we're here for you, no matter what."
Joel couldn't help but feel unease at looking at Beth. She was his daughter and was one he didn’t know he had, but now, looking at her, he couldn’t help but notice she was the perfect mix between him and Emily, how her eyes sparkled just like her mother's and how her smile looked exactly like the one Sarah had. Joel’s heart broke at the thought of Beth never knowing she had a sister. Taking a deep breath, Joel made a silent promise to himself that he would do whatever it took to protect and cherish the family he had now.
He was determined to make up for the lost years, to be the father he never had the chance to be. As he walked alongside Emily, their hands occasionally brushing against each other, he knew that their journey was just beginning, and he was ready to face it head-on, no matter what lay ahead.
Tumblr media
A few days later, when the night finally enveloped them, they found shelter in the woods, with a small fire crackling in front of them, providing warmth and light for them to spend the night.
Beth had been sitting quietly, lost in her thoughts, looking at the flames dancing in front of her without uttering a word, but then she stood up and made her way to be alone for a moment. Nevertheless, Emily noticed her daughter's restlessness and couldn't help but follow. She didn't want Beth to be alone after the recent events.
As Emily caught up to Beth, they stood together without saying, gazing up at the stars sparkling above her heads.
But Beth was the first to break the silence, consuming them both. "Mom, is Joel my dad?"
Emily turned to look at her daughter, agape and her heart ached at the question. She had known this moment would come sooner or later.
"Yes, sweetheart," Emily replied gently. "Joel is your dad."
Beth's eyes widened with surprise and nodded "I knew it," she whispered. "I could see it in the way he looks at me."
Emily smiled, her eyes watering with tears. "How?"
"I don’t know. Just... there's a kind of connection that can be seen in a person's eyes” she answered.
Emily nodded, without taking her eyes off Beth.
"I'm glad he's my dad," she said softly.
Emily pulled Beth into a warm hug. "I'm glad too.”
Beth leaned into her mother's embrace, and they stood there together.
“We should go back before they get worried,” Emily said, pulling away from Beth’s embrace.
Beth nodded a small smile on her face. "Yeah, we should."
She took her mother's hand, and together they made their way back to the warmth. The sense of having both her parents together enveloped her with a sense of relief because, for the first time, she felt she belonged to a place and that she had a family.
And when they returned, the fire kept crackling. Ellie, Joel, Emily, and Beth sat together sharing stories and laughter as they forgot about the cruel world outside.
Joel and Emily stole glances at each other, their hearts still beating as one as the weight of their past seemed to feel lighter now that they had been given a second chance. There were still many things left to say, and many wounds that needed healing, but for now, they were happy to be together again.
With the girls sound asleep, Emily and Joel sat closer together, their shoulders brushing against each other as they watched the fire in front of them. The warmth felt like a signal from their universe of the same spark growing between them.
They were embraced by a comfortable silence, only the sound of the fire crackling, but Emily felt a surge of emotion and found herself shifting closer to Joel and their hands found each other naturally as if they still remembered their path to each other’s. At that moment, words were unnecessary. They leaned into each other, drawing warmth and comfort from the closeness they had once known and now rediscovered. The fire continued to flicker, its soft glow casting shadows that danced across their faces, until they drew closer, and their lips found their way to each other’s, once again.
That connection flickering between them, again, illuminated the night.

I wrote a reply to this post but OP has deleted it and even though I should probably leave well enough alone, it got to me that I could have sworn I saw this post months ago and then realized it was actually from yesterday. This is a long reply so I'm putting it under a cut, but after I went to OP's blog and saw a post from them complaining how mean everyone was to them on this post, I replied to say I'm sorry if they got any anon hate I don't know about but otherwise none of the comments on this post were mean or hateful, they just disagreed with OP. I pointed out that this is partly because they cited non-canon events as canon, and OP immediately blocked me (this may be why I can't reblog the post even from another user, though that's not how tumblr usually works so who knows). I can't help but feel that OP's post was made in bad faith, as a result, and I've seen enough people on this hellsite who are more interested in protecting their egos than admit when they could have been approached something more thoughtfully, so I'm diving in. If you're going to say a character "is very interesting to study" while doing the exact opposite, then you'd better have the critical analysis skills and textual evidence to back it up.
I think OP has some misconceptions that are frustratingly common, and seem to stem from people not having read the books, or not read them for a long time, and conflating the movies with canon. While I mostly agree with the replies above, I want to take this opportunity to cite the text to refute some of OP's points. I often forget details from the text, but I choose to either look them up before asserting unconfirmed points as fact (Potter Search is a great tool, or you can just do a ctrl+F search if you have the books digitally), or else I usually state clearly that I'm not sure if I remember something correctly and don't have the spoons to look it up.
I saw OP say in the comments in response to someone arguing their points:
"that's your interpretation, I have mine, I think both can coexist within the material we are given."
It doesn't sit right with me that so many people think that referring to their subjective memory of what the text meant to them is the same as actually citing it and offering an explanation. OP's interpretation can't exist within the material given, because some of it doesn't exist in the material at all, and you can't interpret what isn't there. OP is essentially claiming to have done critical analysis, and although no one is required to always critique a text analytically on a tumblr post, I find it upsetting when people claim to do so while failing to cite a single source to support their argument. To me it sounds like someone trying to pass off a creative writing essay as an academic research paper, and in an age of rampant propaganda and knee-jerk reblogs that eschew critical thinking, I feel an almost compulsive need to go through OP's reply and argue it with the textual evidence they conveniently avoided, if for no other reason than to show why it's important to discern between loosely formed opinions and informed ones.
I also want to explain why I don't accept the films as canon, because while I do think that canon can exist across several mediums (such as with Good Omens, in which at least one of the writers of the text is directly involved in writing the TV series), I don't think that applies to Harry Potter because the original author was only marginally involved in the films, in only a consultant role, and had little input on the writing. The HP films are an interpretation as written from the perspective of Steve Kloves, except for OoTP, which was written by Michael Goldenberg. I've gone into it on other posts, but suffice to say these interpretations did not prioritize story and character development and were often influenced by pressure from the studio to prioritize marketing opportunities over storytelling. Important elements like foreshadowing and themes were not carried over from the text to the screen. These changes affected the storytelling significantly and left out crucial elements. This, combined with the films having been written with little to no involvement from the original author, is why I feel the films can't be taken as canon. This doesn't mean they can't be enjoyed by any means, just that they scenes that appear in the films but not in the text, or are presented differently on screen than in the text, are not a reasonable basis for character analysis.
And now, on to OP's ask:
"I think he is a very good representation of a man who felt insecure in his manhood; his male ego was permanently wounded by James' bullying and he decided to make it everyone else's problem by being the most insufferable teacher at Hogwarts."
The first thing we have to establish is that the books are told from Harry's perspective, so we have to take narrative bias into account. Calling Snape "the most insufferable teacher at Hogwarts" is a subjective statement and I can only assume it's based in Harry's biased perspective as narrator, given that he and Snape have a bad relationship from the outset. I have a brief analysis here about how Snape dislikes Harry because in their first class together he interprets Harry's ignorance of the course material as a lack of curiosity and appreciation for his gifts as a wizard, while also recognizing something of his own experiences with childhood poverty and abuse in Harry. Harry, being ignorant of these factors, just feels singled out for hate by a strict teacher, and their relationship deteriorates throughout the rest of the series, until the end of the final book.
To pull back from the narrative bias, let's look at some of the other teachers are Hogwarts:
McGonagall:
“Miss Granger, you foolish girl, how could you think of tackling a mountain troll on your own?”  Hermione hung her head. Harry was speechless. Hermione was the last person to do anything against the rules, and here she was, pretending she had, to get them out of trouble. It was as if Snape had started handing out sweets. “Miss Granger, five points will be taken from Gryffindor for this,” said Professor McGonagall. “I’m very disappointed in you. If you’re not hurt at all, you’d better get off to Gryffindor Tower. Students are finishing the feast in their Houses.”
Philosopher's Stone, Ch. 10.
“I’m disgusted,” said Professor McGonagall. “Four students out of bed in one night! I’ve never heard of such a thing before! You, Miss Granger, I thought you had more sense. As for you, Mr. Potter, I thought Gryffindor meant more to you than this. All three of you will receive detentions — yes, you too, Mr. Longbottom, nothing gives you the right to walk around school at night, especially these days, it’s very dangerous — and fifty points will be taken from Gryffindor.” “Fifty?” Harry gasped — they would lose the lead, the lead he’d won in the last Quidditch match.  “Fifty points each,” said Professor McGonagall, breathing heavily through her long, pointed nose.
Philosopher's Stone, Ch. 15
In just the first book we see McGonagall punish Hermione for successfully defending herself against a troll and take house points, then sends her back to her common room without getting medical attention, as if a ten year old can be responsible for assessing how badly they're hurt. A few chapters later McGonagall takes several hundred points from students in her own house (more than we see any other teacher do at one time throughout the series), and assigns the students detention on top of it. As we later see in the same chapter, the detentions aren't even served with her directly, but instead the children - again, ten years old - are sent into the Forbidden Forest at night with only Hagrid to protect them, to hunt down whatever creature is vicious and cunning enough to kill unicorns.
Although it's said that Snape favors the students in his own house, he doesn't seem to be the only one:
“Potter's been sent a broomstick, Professor,” said Malfoy quickly.  “Yes, yes, that’s right,” said Professor Flitwick, beaming at Harry. “Professor McGonagall told me all about the special circumstances, Potter. And what model is it?”  “A Nimbus Two Thousand, sir,” said Harry, fighting not to laugh at the look of horror on Malfoy’s face. “And it’s really thanks to Malfoy here that I’ve got it,” he added.
Philosopher's Stone, Ch. 10
Not only did McGonagall make an exception to school practices and allow Harry on his house Quidditch team despite being a first year, she used either school funds or her own (unclear) to purchase a first-rate broom for him. We know the school has brooms, as first years are not allowed their own and they are provided for flying lessons, and because “Harry had heard Fred and George Weasley complain about the school brooms” (PS ch. 9). And yet, McGonagall ensures Harry has his own broom, and an expensive one, new enough to be the show model in a shop window in Diagon Alley a few months earlier:
“Several boys of about Harry’s age had their noses pressed against a window with broomsticks in it. ‘Look,’ Harry heard one of them say, ‘the new Nimbus Two Thousand - fastest ever -”
-Philosopher's Stone, Ch. 5
If we're discussing which teachers are Hogwarts are the most "insufferable" then we also have to talk about Hagrid, who might mean well and be affectionate, but is also irresponsible and dangerous.
In Philosopher's Stone, Hagrid:
Punishes Dudley, a child, for his parents' offenses, the final straw being his father insulting Dumbledore (Ch. 4). While Hagrid acknowledges that he shouldn't have lost his temper, he also admits that his intention had been to turn Dudley fully into a pig.
Hatches a dragon in his cabin (Ch. 14), tries to raise it illegally and against the animal's need of care, and Harry, Ron, and Hermione (again, ten year olds) have to fix the situation and get Ron's brother to find some friends to take the dragon away safely and prevent Hagrid losing his job (Ch. 14). In the process Hagrid endangers himself as well as the children, and it's because of this that McGonagall gives them detention and deducts hundreds of house points. Hagrid not only allows the children to endanger themselves for his sake, but to be punished and subsequently ostracized by their peers also for his sake.
The reason he even has a dragon is, as we find out in Ch. 16, because he was foolish enough to accept it from a faceless stranger in exchange for unwittingly divulging the secret to getting past the three headed dog guarding the Philosopher's Stone (and the stranger later turns out to be Quirrel/Voldemort).
In Prisoner of Azkaban, Hagrid:
Starts his first lesson with a volatile creature (Ch. 6) and, although Malfoy acted irresponsibly, Hagrid was nevertheless the teacher and responsible for providing course material consistent with the experience level and maturity of his students' age.
Gets drunk and has to be taken care of by Harry, Ron, and Hermione (again, children) (Ch. 6)
Skipping ahead to Order of the Phoenix ch. 30, we find out Hagrid
Compromised his return from the mission Dumbledore sent him on by bringing a giant back to England.
Brought said giant into the school grounds and left him in the Forbidden Forest.
Asks Harry and Hermione (still children) to look after him if Hagrid is sacked.
Although Hagrid means well, his actions are consistently thoughtless and irresponsible, requiring those around him - often Harry, Ron, and Hermione - to fix the damage he causes. Although I think it remains subjective which teacher at Hogwarts is the "most insufferable" I think Hagrid is a strong enough candidate to qualify OP's interpretation of Snape holding that title as extremely contestable. Of course, since the books are presented through the lens of Harry's narrative bias, and he's fond of Hagrid, respects McGonagall, and dislikes Snape, an uncritical reading could lead one to OP's conclusions. However, a more objective analysis of the text shows that many teachers at Hogwarts are strict, punitive, biased, and wreak havoc on students in ways that make the Snape's actions look fairly tame, or at least the norm. And this is excluding an analysis of various DADA professors like Lockhart and Crouch/Moody, who were insufferable in their own rights (Lockhart was smarmy and dishonest to the point it risked students' lives; Crouch/Moodly transfigured a child into a ferret and humiliated him with torture as a disciplinary measure and deliberately triggered Neville's trauma in class).
OP continues their reply to say:
Add to this that he is a halfblood and only his mother was around, iirc?
They don't recall correctly. Snape, whose father was a muggle and whose mother was a witch, was indeed a half-blood (as is evidenced by him being revealed to be the Half-Blood Prince - I assume I don't need to cite a source as this is a pretty well-known fact and the literal title of an entire HP book, but should you need a reference it's in Ch. 28 of HBP). Both his parents were around in his childhood:
Snape staggered - his wand flew upwards, away from Harry - and suddenly Harry’s mind was teeming with memories that were not his: a hook-nosed man was shouting at a cowering woman, while a small dark-haired boy cried in a corner …
-Order of the Phoenix, Ch. 26
‘How are things at your house?’ Lily asked. A little crease appeared between his eyes. ‘Fine,’ he said. ‘They’re not arguing any more?’ ‘Oh, yes, they’re arguing,’ said Snape. He picked up a fistful of leaves and began tearing them apart, apparently unaware of what he was doing. ‘But it won’t be that long and I’ll be gone.’ ‘Doesn’t your dad like magic?’ ‘He doesn’t like anything, much,’ said Snape.
-Deathly Hallows, Ch. 33
We know that Snape's father was around because he's mentioned both in Snape's memories in OoTP that Harry accidentally invades during an Occlumency lesson, and when we see in Snape's memories that he gives Harry as he dies. Lily asks about his home life by referring to both his parents, implying that his dad is a consistent presence at home. We also know from JK Rowling that Snape's father "didn't hold back when it came to the whip" but this is supplementary and not mentioned in canon, so I don't expect anyone to refer to it when analyzing the text, I'm just adding it as bonus material.
Continuing on with OP's reply:
Snape, Voldemort and Harry all act like foils of each other in that sense, but whereas Voldemort fixated on his blood status as the main reason for his insecurities, Snape fixated on Lily.
So much to unpack here. Firstly, all of this should be backed up by examples from the text, as they are subjective readings that have significant bearing on character analysis.
Snape, Harry, and Voldemort don't act like foils of each other. For one thing, a character doesn't act like a foil, a character either is or isn't one. That being said, I don't know OP's background and there could be a language barrier because English isn't everyone's first language, I'm just being pedantic. Even with that in mind, the statement remains incorrect. A foil is a literary device - a character who contrasts with another character, often with the protagonist. It is not a choice a character makes or an action they take.
In Philosopher's Stone Snape is set up as a foil to Harry in order to misdirect the reader from suspecting the real villain, Quirrel/Voldemort. Snape is presented as secretive, sneaky, and nefarious, contrasting Harry's role as a protagonist who is outspoken, honest, and brave. As the series progresses, Snape, along with Voldemort, are eventually shown to have more parallels than contrasts with Harry. Snape and Voldemort were born into muggle poverty, and although Harry was raised in a middle class home by the Dursleys, they thrust poverty and neglect onto him in a way that parallels his childhood of neglect and want with that of Snape and Voldemort. Snape's father was abusive, as was Harry's guardian, Vernon Dursley. Harry, Voldemort, and Snape all had traumatic experiences growing up in muggle environments. If anything, Snape and Voldemort might be foils to Harry in that they both harbored resentment for their muggle fathers in ways that signified the separation between the wizarding and muggle world, while Harry's experiences with the Dursleys didn't color his image of muggles in a comparable way.
The contrast between Harry, Snape, and Voldemort is in the way each of them deals with their trauma. As Dumbledore says:
"It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."
-Chamber of Secrets, Ch. 18
This becomes one of the overarching themes of the HP series, Harry, Snape, and Voldemort are all examples of how their choices took them to such different places in life from their comparable childhoods.
At school Voldemort was a handsome boy with talent, intelligence, and the recommendations of his teachers, but he chose to pursue power instead of success:
“He reached the seventh year of his schooling with, as you might have expected, top grades in every examination he had taken. All around him, his classmates were deciding which jobs they were to pursue once they had left Hogwarts. Nearly everybody expected spectacular things from Tom Riddle, prefect, Head Boy, winner of the Special Award for Services to the School. I know that several teachers, Professor Slughorn amongst them, suggested that he join the Ministry of Magic, offered to set up appointments, put him in touch with useful contacts. He refused all offers. The next thing the staff knew, Voldemort was working at Borgin and Burkes.”
Half-Blood Prince, Ch. 20
Snape chose to become a Death Eater for reasons we can only assume. We know he was in Slytherin during an era when Voldemort was in power and many of his allies had children in Slytherin house. At least two of Snape's dorm-mates, Mulciber and Avery, are canonically acknowledged to have become Death Eaters (both are present at the Ministry when Harry and his friends fight the Death Eaters in the Department of Mysteries in OoTP Ch. 35). It's unclear whether Snape chose to become a Death Eater out of admiration for them or out of peer pressure, or perhaps a lack of other options, while at school:
'… thought we were supposed to be friends?’ Snape was saying. ‘Best friends?’ ‘We are, Sev, but I don’t like some of the people you’re hanging around with! I’m sorry, but I detest Avery and Mulciber! Mulciber! What do you see in him, Sev? He’s creepy! D’you know what he tried to do to Mary Macdonald the other day?’ Lily had reached a pillar and leaned against it, looking up into the thin, sallow face. ‘That was nothing,’ said Snape. ‘It was a laugh, that’s all -‘ ‘It was Dark Magic, and if you think that’s funny -‘ ‘What about the stuff Potter and his mates get up to?’ demanded Snape. His colour rose again as he said it, unable, it seemed, to hold in his resentment.
-Deathly Hallows, Ch. 33
It's unclear what Snape thinks of Avery and Mulciber, as his reply to Lily is downplaying but doesn't defend their actions. We see Snape's indecisiveness later in the argument he has with Lily after he calls her a Mudblood:
'It’s too late. I’ve made excuses for you for years. None of my friends can understand why I even talk to you. You and your precious little Death Eater friends - you see, you don’t even deny it! You don’t even deny that’s what you’re all aiming to be! You can’t wait to join You-Know-Who, can you?’ He opened his mouth, but closed it without speaking. ‘I can’t pretend any more. You’ve chosen your way, I’ve chosen mine.’ ‘No - listen, I didn’t mean -‘ ‘- to call me Mudblood? But you call everyone of my birth Mudblood, Severus. Why should I be any different?'
-Deathly Hallows, Ch. 33
Although Snape does ultimately choose to become a Death Eater, we see in his reply to Lily about both Avery and Mulciber and later her assumption that they all want to become Death Eaters that Snape doesn't argue for or against her accusations, but instead is evasive and unsure of himself. He opens his mouth to speak when she accuses him of wanting to become a Death Eater, but then closes it again without saying anything - he can neither argue against her point, nor state clearly, let alone with any kind of conviction, that this is indeed his ambition. It can be argued that it's the passivity of his choice that lands him with a Dark Mark on his arm, and it's the active choice he makes to risk his life in order to defect from Voldemort's ranks and turn spy that defines his character and without which Harry could not have defeated Voldemort.
Harry, as the protagonist, is also significantly defined by the theme of choice:
'But, sir,’ said Harry, making valiant efforts not to sound argumentative, ‘it all comes to the same thing, doesn’t it? I’ve got to try and kill him, or -‘ ‘Got to?’ said Dumbledore. ‘Of course you’ve got to! But not because of the prophecy! Because you, yourself, will never rest until you’ve tried! We both know it! Imagine, please, just for a moment, that you had never heard that prophecy! How would you feel about Voldemort now? Think!’ Harry watched Dumbledore striding up and down in front of him, and thought. He thought of his mother, his father and Sirius. He thought of Cedric Diggory. He thought of all the terrible deeds he knew Lord Voldemort had done. A flame seemed to leap inside his chest, searing his throat. ‘I’d want him finished,’ said Harry quietly. ‘And I’d want to do it.’ ‘Of course you would!’ cried Dumbledore. ‘You see, the prophecy does not mean you have to do anything! But the prophecy caused Lord Voldemort to mark you as his equal … in other words, you are free to choose your way, quite free to turn your back on the prophecy! But Voldemort continues to set store by the prophecy. He will continue to hunt you … which makes it certain, really, that -' ‘That one of us is going to end up killing the other,’ said Harry. ‘Yes.'
-Half-Blood Prince, Ch. 33
There's a clear point made by the author through Dumbledore as her proxy here, that choice is what matters, not fate. It's Harry's choices that make him the person he is and lead him to eventually defeat Voldemort. While Snape, Voldemort, and Harry all can be contrasted through the lens of their choices, this does not make them foils, as it is the the theme of choice and how it is exemplified by each character that makes them unique, but their experiences and many of their character traits (boldness, bravery, a personal sense of conviction) that make them parallels of one another. Each of them occupies their own place on the spectrum between the light and dark that the series establishes, Voldemort at the dark end, Harry at the light, and Snape in the grey area between them.
OP goes on to say:
His character is all about male entitlement, he was obsessed with her at Hogwarts and then showed to have no boundaries as he went into her house to cradle her dead body in front of her traumatized kid.
There's a lot to unpack here, and it's particularly challenging because you can't provide textual evidence for something that didn't happen in the text. After the above scene from Ch. 33 of DH in which Lily ends her friendship with Snape, we never see them interact again:
'No - listen, I didn’t mean -‘ ‘- to call me Mudblood? But you call everyone of my birth Mudblood, Severus. Why should I be any different?’ He struggled on the verge of speech, but with a contemptuous look she turned and climbed back through the portrait hole … The corridor dissolved, and the scene took a little longer to reform: Harry seemed to fly through shifting shapes and colours until his surroundings solidified again and he stood on a hilltop, forlorn and cold in the darkness, the wind whistling through the branches of a few leafless trees. The adult Snape was panting, turning on the spot, his wand gripped tightly in his hand, waiting for something or for someone …'
-Deathly Hallows, Ch. 33
The scene in the corridor in front of Gryffindor Tower between a fifth year Snape and Lily leads directly into the scene where Snape begs Dumbledore to protect the Potters (which I wrote an analysis of a few months ago but is too long a subject to derail this post for). We see no more interactions between Snape and Lily, and therefore there is no canonical support for the idea that Snape behaved obsessively or failed to respect her boundaries.
There's also no mention of Snape going to Godric's Hollow at all after her death. Snape holding Lily's dead body is only shown in the film version of Deathly Hallows, and as mentioned, the films are not canon. That moment doesn't exist in the text and can't be considered in an analysis of Snape's character. The scene on the hilltop leads directly into the scene of Snape crying in Dumbledore's office:
The hilltop faded, and Harry stood in Dumbledore’s office, and something was making a terrible sound, like a wounded animal. Snape was slumped forwards in a chair and Dumbledore was standing over him, looking grim. After a moment or two, Snape raised his face, and he looked like a man who had lived a hundred years of misery since leaving the wild hilltop. ‘I thought … you were going … to keep her … safe …’ ‘She and James put their faith in the wrong person,’ said Dumbledore. ‘Rather like you, Severus. Weren’t you hoping that Lord Voldemort would spare her?’ Snape’s breathing was shallow.
-Deathly Hallows, Ch. 33
This is the only depiction of Snape immediately following the Potters' deaths. The scene of him cradling Lily's dead body was Steve Kloves' invention and has no basis in canon. If anything, Snape's actions in canon can be interpreted to show that he respected the boundaries Lily set, and that even when her life was at risk he chose to go to Dumbledore - who he thought might kill him on sight - rather than talk to her directly after she ended their friendship. In addition, in all the information the text gives about the night Voldemort fell in Godric's Hollow and Hagrid collected Harry to take him to Privet Drive, there's no mention of Snape whatsoever.
There isn't much in the text to support the interpretation that Snape exemplified male entitlement either. So far we've seen him being as strict, if not milder, than other teachers at the school, his favoritism is also comparable to that of other teachers - implying it's more of a norm than an example of entitlement - and there are no canonical examples to support the argument that he was obsessed with Lily or violated her boundaries. Snape struggles to argue with Lily when she accuses and berates him, and the usual markers of patriarchal entitlement - silencing women, gaslighting, dismissing women's opinions, talking over them - are all nowhere to be found in any of their interactions. The only time we see him lash out at Lily is when he calls her Mudblood (OoTP Ch. 28) which, while inexcusable, he does under traumatic duress, and is not indicative of his usual interactions with her, as exemplified by the fact that she ends their friendship over it. As cited before:
'No - listen, I didn’t mean -‘ ‘- to call me Mudblood? But you call everyone of my birth Mudblood, Severus. Why should I be any different?’
There's a clear implication that Snape has never called her this before. An argument can also be made that it speaks volumes of Lily's own biases, or perhaps her own affection for Snape (who, not long before this, was still her best friend), that she excused this behavior from him when it was directed at others, and only took issue with it when it was directed at herself. That, combined with Lily's own acknowledgment that they were "best friends" shows that Snape's relationship with her was a balanced, consensual one even when it became strained, up until their friendship ended.
Continuing with OP's points:
He only saw Lily as a trophy to be possessed, which you can see from the way he hated Harry, because Harry reminded him Lily wasn't his and that Lily had sex with another man.
There's no support for this in the text anywhere and is pure conjecture. I can appreciate it being OP's headcanon, but it's certainly not a result of studying the text and relying on it to form opinions, but rather seems to be OP projecting pre-conceived notions onto Snape as a character and trying to find justification for it. I've written a whole post extrapolating Snape's first class with Harry, but the tl;dr is that Snape, who grew up in muggle poverty and knew Aunt Petunia enough to guess that Harry didn't fare well in her care when he showed up at school bearing signs of neglect, likely expected Harry to have the same hunger for learning that he himself did at Harry's age. Instead, Harry couldn't answer a single one of his questions and showed no curiosity or enthusiasm towards being a wizard as far as Snape could tell.
Nevertheless, even though Snape did seem to dislike Harry, hate is an awful strong word given that it is revealed at the end of Deathly Hallows that Snape has risked his own life to protect him. This isn't particularly surprising when you consider that this goal was established as early as Philosopher's Stone, when Snape protected him, which Harry initially interpreted as Snape trying to kill him:
Harry couldn’t take it in. This couldn’t be true, it couldn’t. ‘But Snape tried to kill me!’ ‘No, no, no. I tried to kill you. Your friend Miss Granger accidentally knocked me over as she rushed to set fire to Snape at that Quidditch match. She broke my eye contact with you. Another few seconds and I’d have got you off that broom. I’d have managed it before then if Snape hadn’t been muttering a counter-curse, trying to save you.’ ‘Snape was trying to save me?’ ‘Of course,’ said Quirrell coolly. -Philosopher's Stone, Ch. 17
Again, the story is told through the lens of Harry's bias, but that doesn't mean his opinions of Snape reflect Snape's character. As another example, there's an implication in OoTP that Snape, having seen some of the Dursleys' abuse of Harry through his memories during Occlumency lessons, passed this information on in an effort to protect Harry, and that this is the reason why several Order members (Arthur Weasley and Moody in particular) show up at King's Cross at the end of the schoolyear and threaten the Dursleys to stop mistreating him. There seems to be no other explanation in the text for why these adults are suddenly aware of the abuse Harry experiences, except that Snape, who was abused as a child himself, and who is an Order member himself, is the only adult in the series who we see witness Harry's mistreatement firsthand. At no point in the narrative do we see Harry complain about the Dursleys to the adults he trusts or ask them for help, merely to spend his holidays away from them without explanation.
While Snape did indeed dislike Harry and often compared him to his father, his dislike for James had much more significant roots in bullying and trauma than in his concern for Lily's relationship with him. It's established in canon that James Potter and Sirius Black dislike Snape from the outset (as in the scene on the Hogwarts Express in DH Ch. 33). In their fifth year, Sirius - annoyed that Snape is so curious about where Lupin goes each month - tricks Snape into following the tunnel under the Whomping Willow to the Shrieking Shack, as Lupin tells Harry:
'Professor Snape was at school with us. ... Sirius here played a trick on him which nearly killed him, a trick which involved me -‘ Black made a derisive noise. ‘It served him right,’ he sneered. ‘Sneaking around, trying to find out what we were up to … hoping he could get us expelled …' 'Severus was very interested in where I went every month,’ Lupin told Harry, Ron and Hermione. ‘We were in the same year, you know, and we - er - didn’t like each other very much. He especially disliked James. Jealous, I think, of James’s talent on the Quidditch pitch … anyway, Snape had seen me crossing the grounds with Madam Pomfrey one evening as she led me towards the Whomping Willow to transform. Sirius thought it would be - er - amusing, to tell Snape all he had to do was prod the knot on the tree-trunk with a long stick, and he’d be able to get in after me. Well, of course, Snape tried it - if he’d got as far as this house, he’d have met a fully grown werewolf - but your father, who’d heard what Sirius had done, went after Snape and pulled him back, at great risk to his life … Snape glimpsed me, though, at the end of the tunnel. He was forbidden to tell anybody by Dumbledore, but from that time on he knew what I was …'
-Prisoner of Azkaban, Ch. 18
From this we can deduce that Sirius intended for Snape to die, or at least get severely injured, and that even as a grown adult Sirius doesn't regret trying to mete out this punishment to him as retaliation for curiosity. We can also deduce that Lupin was unaware of Sirius' intention and did not consent to be used as a weapon. For his part, Snape never did reveal that Lupin was a werewolf while at school, or even during that school year, until after Lupin ran amok on Hogwarts grounds, endangering others' lives, including Harry's.
There are other meta posts that go into Lupin's insecurities and vulnerabilities, but in short, he was grateful just to be allowed into the school as a student, let alone to have friends, and was in no position to challenge James and Sirius. Even as a prefect he didn't curb their behavior, as we see when he allows James to bully Snape later that year after their O.W.L.s:
'Leave him alone,’ Lily repeated. She was looking at James with every sign of great dislike. ‘What’s he done to you?’ ‘Well,’ said James, appearing to deliberate the point, ‘it’s more the fact that he exists, if you know what I mean …’ Many of the surrounding students laughed, Sirius and Wormtail included, but Lupin, still apparently intent on his book, didn’t, and nor did Lily. ‘You think you’re funny,’ she said coldly. ‘But you’re just an arrogant, bullying toerag, Potter. Leave him alone.’ ‘I will if you go out with me, Evans,’ said James quickly. ‘Go on … go out with me and I’ll never lay a wand on old Snivelly again.'
-Order of the Phoenix, Ch. 28
James acknowledges that he has no real reason to bully Snape and uses violence as a bargaining chip to coerce Lily into going out with him (James' behavior reflects much more entitlement than Snape's, in my opinion). He also chokes Snape with a bar of soap and then assaults him by dangling him upside down and removing his trousers (threatening to remove his underwear but we don't see it happen).
Lily herself refers to James as arrogant, and it's this trait, along with the trauma from James' bullying of him, that Snape perceives in Harry. He doesn't resent Harry for looking like his father because it reminds him that Lily had sex with another man, he resents him for it because of all the trauma James inflicted on him. The conflict-laden relationship between Snape and the Marauders is a significant driver of the story through several of the books and OP seems subjective to the point of being problematic in ignoring it completely and instead focusing Snape's dislike of Harry onto an invented idea of sexual jealousy that doesn't exist in the text.
It's never stated whether Snape had romantic feelings for Lily, or vice versa, only that they were friends. The closest we see to a hint of this is when “The intensity of his [Snape's] gaze made her [Lily] blush," or when “The moment she [Lily] had insulted James Potter, his [Snape's] whole body had relaxed, and as they walked away there was a new spring in Snape’s step …”
Lily's blush could be interpreted as implying she was attracted to him, or conversely that she didn't and felt awkward thinking he might be attracted to her. Similarly, Snape's relief at her insulting James can be interpreted as indicative of his attraction to her, or of him simply being worried about a friend hanging out with people he perceived as dangerous and was relieved to learn she wasn't putting herself in the way of danger by becoming friends with them. Although JK Rowling has said that her intention was for Snape's affections towards Lily to be romantic, and that she may have returned his affection had he not chosen the path he did, this is - like the note about Snape's father whipping him - extratextual and more of an interesting fact than a bit of canon to be extrapolated from the text.
Finally, OP says:
His interest in the Death Eaters was only secondary to his obsession with Lily and I think Lily rejecting him pushed him toward joining the Death Eaters, because, once again, his male ego was bruised and he needed to replace it with something else.
We've already seen that Snape's interest in joining the Death Eaters was a big part of Lily's reason for ending their friendship. Therefore, logically, Lily's decision didn't push him towards becoming a Death Eater, but rather isolated him from having any support system outside of the DEs. She didn't reject him, because rejection is the refusal or dismissal of another person's advances or proposal. They were friends, meaning they had a mutually consensual platonic relationship. Lily therefore didn't reject Snape, she ended their friendship and, as already stated, nothing in canon implies he didn't respect her boundaries.
As we have also seen in canon, Snape was bullied at school and had, at best, a neglectful and dysfunctional home environment in his childhood. In addition, he shared a dorm with students actively interested in becoming Death Eaters, and his one social lifeline away from them was cut off when he called Lily a Mudblood. What OP interprets as Snape's male ego being bruised is actually a much more complex set of social and emotional factors being described throughout the series to eventually reveal the profile of a character - young Snape - who was a vulnerable youth primed for radicalization by a violent faction of zealots. Although the enforcement and upholding of patriarchal norms is often a huge element of these kinds of social movements, that didn't seem to be the driving force for Snape based on everything we learn about his character. Instead, what we see is a boy who comes from abuse, lives in abuse at school, who loses all the support systems that might give him an alternative to the fascist cult he's being radicalized into which - if it's like most hate groups - would have been more than welcome to both take him in and help him cut his ties to anyone else in his life he might escape from them to.
It also goes against the argument that Snape was sexually obsessed with Lily that he continued to risk his life in order to protect her son an defeat her murderer for almost two decades after her death. He knew it would neither bring her back from the dead nor bring about forgiveness, and it goes without saying that sex was no longer an option. Framing Snape's motivation as obsession dismisses the realities of the complex and meaningful relationship we form as people, and the lasting, transformative influence we can have on each other, which is what Snape and Lily's story illustrates.
Finally, OP concludes with:
He remained mysterious up till the end and his back-and-forth with treason was very compelling to read about. So I hate him (as a "person") but he is such a good character narrative-wise and he is very interesting to study
OP openly admits to hating Snape, ie. having a bias against him, while stating he is "interesting to study" - except no part of their answer has shown that they've actually done so. Their arguments are unsupported in several ways, one being that they don't offer any evidence, and the other being that none can be found in the source text. What's ironic is that OP seems to resent Snape's subjective bias against Harry (and misinterpret his reasons for it in baseless ways) while also showing the exact same kind of bias against Snape themselves. You don't have to like a character by any means, but claiming that the kind of unfounded, superficial, and unsupported opinions that OP stated in their response have a basis in any kind of study of his character is ludicrous and an insult to the intelligence of anyone reading it.

Text
i've told parts of this story before, but bare with me, i'm emotional.
so like, i've had this blog since 2021. my original tumblr blog (made in 2011 iirc) was nuked in 2018 for exactly the reason you think (nsfw ban) and i didn't return for a handful of years because it stung so bad. even when i did, i mostly used twitter.
i started posting to tumblr more regularly when musk's twitter takeover finally pissed me off enough to ditch it. (i have since gone back, sort of, but am not reliably present and mostly just rt art people send me.) i've been pretty consistently here since then, sans a very angry break when all the shit with automattic's CEO happened.
and like... looking through my archives... i only made a dedicated tag for asks last july, even though i've been using an organizational tag system since i made this blog. that's how infrequent they were. my art usually got between 0 and 3 notes. when i left briefly back in january, i deleted every post in my art tag because i didn't want to leave my work here, but also, like... the only things that went anywhere were some of my mgs fanarts. no one owes anyone's work attention, but it didn't feel worth it, you know? like why share it with the public when i can just show it to the like 3 friends i know who care?
i came back partially because i felt... isolated. i have friends on the fediverse and on discord, but tumblr gave me a sense of being in a community, even if i didn't feel like an important part of said community. i missed queuing funny posts to enjoy weeks later, i missed being kept sort of in-the-loop about fandom goings-on, i missed my friends who were still here. (and that last one is also part of why i check twitter more now.)
but that alone wasn't enough, because i was a nobody here and it probably wasn't worth it to try again. but then devot and i started watching dungeon meshi, and i got into chilaios just like i thought i would, and tumblr has the largest concentration of chilaios fanart and posts. not only that, but every post i saw in the tag had so much engagement! i didn't see a single one that went unnoticed, back in february. so i hesitantly came back. i started reblogging chilaios posts. i didn't intend to try and break into the space because i knew it'd just hurt if i went unnoticed again, like i did in other fandoms.
but i made friends, little by little. i started a fanfic. i cautiously began posting my art again. i started writing meta, and shitposts, and replying on other people's posts, and commenting on other people's fics, and now...
that ask tag i mentioned? there are 15 pages of posts with that tag on my blog. only 2 and a half of those pages are asks from before i got into dunmeshi. people talk to me--they care about my thoughts and my opinions, they compliment the things i make. i have a group of like, 30+ people i interact with regularly, many of which i now consider close friends. everything i post gets some attention, no matter what it is.
this isn't a humblebrag, it's just... a thank you. i can't really properly express the depths of the loneliness i've felt in the past. i was an outcast for a long time, and it was way worse pre-2019, but i don't think it's ever fully left me. i've been hurt very, very badly in the past, and i've been abandoned a lot, and i've been ostracized a lot. i've grown into who i am today both in spite of and because of all i've been through, and for that i wouldn't ever change it, but it was still hard.
so today, as i turn 29, seeing asks and gifts pour in to tell me happy birthday, and that i'm appreciated... just, thank you.
if there's one thing you can give me today, it's this: reblog someone's art or writing or meta with some enthusiastic tags. send someone a friendly ask. reply to someone's post to comment on something they've said. write comments on ao3 for the fics that move you, no matter how much or how little you can think of to say.
this is going to sound cheesy as hell, but i genuinely mean it: reach out, and spread joy, whenever and wherever you can. you never know who's in pain, who's lonely or who feels worthless. and if it's you who feels that way, do what you can anyway; a community that isn't afraid to reach out will reach back to you, too. and you're not alone. i care, i promise--and more people than you realize do too.
it's so easy to underestimate how much a kind word can do. they add up, though. so keep going.

op had to specify 'unseasoned' meatloaf because it's riffing on a Real Bad Take Post by americans about british poverty foods that said 'unseasoned' shepherd's pie, as if anyone is eating that. (I know, haha meme white people don't season their food, but like.) americans are so myopic and fucking mean about the rest of the world, but can't take it themselves. (not that the brits don't deserve it, but frankly, SO DO YOU, AMERICANS, the citizens of the imperial core, the only global superpower.)
Gonna be honest, I think you're making some pretty wild assumptions here, anon.
Like. I have not seen the post you're referring to. I also didn't reblog the one I DID see- just replied to it- which means you saw that comment and decided to come pick a fight with me HERE instead of replying in comments like a normal person. So you both aren't actually a follower of mine, and won't see this anyway unless you've committed to obsessively refreshing my blog to check for the next few days.
Weird!
So y'know, I haven't actually seen the shepherds pie remark, I personally enjoy shepherds pie, and I don't really know what to tell you there. I don't know that "you can dish it but you can't take it" makes any fucking sense in a situation where I did not, in fact, dish it or know that it was being dished.
Also... there are lots of American foods that fucking suck, dude. I'm not out here defending Midwestern "salads" that consist mostly of mayo and perhaps some canned goods, or like most (if not all) jello dishes, or even most of the stuff on that post. There's plenty to hate and make fun of, and I do it all the damn time. You don't know that because you don't know me, and also couldn't know even the amount that my followers know about me. You literally saw me defend meatloaf (which isn't even originally an American dish, just something we have a version of?) and fucking blacked out, I guess.
And I don't care if you like meatloaf, genuinely. I don't mind making fun of food choices or arguing over generally inconsequential food stuff! It's fun. I was saying that in good fun.
What makes this ask particularly fucking unhinged is that you took out all this frustration you have over, I guess, Americans making fun of your food... on some rando who pointed out that most people have sauce on their meatloaf.
For what!! Who cares!! Oh my god!
And I would have just deleted this, but dude. My guy. Holy shit. Like a solid third of those "gross American foods" (if not more, idk- I'm an idiot from the PNW) are like, pretty classic black southern dishes.
I simply do not think you can argue that black americans "deserve it" the same way white brits or white americans do, actually. I don't think it's fair to act as if they are equal "citizens of the imperial core, the only global superpower".
Like, we're not making fun of British Indian food. We aren't making fun of teriyaki or other American immigrant food. Why do you think "American biscuits and gravy" is cool to mock? I don't think black people "have it coming", man. I think that's a pretty weird take, actually.
Also... like... their food is objectively miles better than whatever midcentury depression-era mess white americans are still trying to pretend is edible.

4/11 yet again (it's 4/17. don't look at me)
Hello gamers. It's been a hot minute.
Mostly putting this here to let people know that I've deleted my main deviantART because I hadn't used it in literal years, but I also forgot that I'd put up all the ASLH and CYAH maps in my stash, so... I'm going to have to go and replace those all at some point, I guess?? I also briefly hosted some of the early ch1-2 graphics on sta.sh as well, as well as the ch1-3 trivia... Unless I actually put it in my secondary dA? I'll have to check on that later. (If you notice anything weird, let me know. I'll also try to fix typos when I have the chance, though... genuinely, it's a little hard for me to read my own writing from now over four years ago, so fixes might have to wait a little bit.)
Annual productivity report: I'm still planning to continue with DRE:CYAH and ASLH Clear Skies Mode... eventually. I scripted most of DRE:CYAH around four years ago, which as noted is a lot of years, and I would like to heavily rework the project if/when I get back to it. As for CSM, I just haven't had the energy or motivation to work on anything related to ASLH. Still, I hope I can grow to love my high school self's stories again.
In the meantime, sorry again for continuing to disappear off the face of the Earth for months at a time. I've stepped away from public-facing social media this year for my mental health and have also been struggling with wrist issues and extreme creative burnout, though I still appreciate all of your kind comments and kudos.
If you have any questions about ASLH or about me, I'll do my best to answer what I can, though I won't guarantee a reply. (Nothing personal, I've just been feeling oddly about sharing myself online these days.) I'll reblog this to the CYAH blog, too, but I'll be closing the ask box there because I genuinely cannot answer much about what I plan for that story or its characters; it's all a little up in the air, and I don't want to say anything that won't end up coming to fruition.
Take care!

JACKIE YOU GOT IT RIGHT OMG but now i’ve just been made really curious as to which part of that previous ask gave it away (was it the 2022 mention? that would kinda make sense, i think)
the synchronicities with pepe are all insane?? some of mine are just outright weird but like even your pokemons situation is so cool because it all makes me feel so 😵‍💫🌟💫 because i love knowing that everything and everyone is interwoven and connected yk? and about pepe being represented by a lotus flower… honestly pepe has surprised me sm since i first found out about him because sometimes he just ends up liking certain things i don’t expect him to all because he’s a driver and stuff like if he ended up being secretly spiritual with little good luck rituals or whatever i wouldn’t be surprised anymore and i LOVE that about him (i also love him)
and AAAAAAA omg the pepe shaving blurb had me feeling so 😊😊 too like the details in it are so essential to the plot and it effectively launched me even deeper into the pepe obsession because how could you just casually write about hugging him from behind and not expect me to go absolutely insane
also there was a point of time where i had every pepe tag hidden for me from any social media platform because just his name or face would have me going so insane and my only way to tackle that was to hide him from myself so if that doesn’t say enough about me idk what will 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
and being able to call him dorky?? AAAAAAA my pepe happens to be a little cocky so idk if ill get to say that anytime soon but one day i will 🤞🤞
AND THE FACT THAT A PEPE EDITOR IS ON YOUR BLOG TOO?? IM SO 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 I LOVED THAT EDIT BECAUSE OF THE MUSIC CHOICE SINCE I HAD A HALSEY PHASE A FEW YEARS AGO so to the editor: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
p.s. i love getting your replies too!! it literally fuels me through the day and i’m so grateful that you’ve been so sweet and accepting of me while supporting my pepe obsession (and even contributing to it, to be fair)
- 🪷💗
okay this got way too long because i spiraled so im putting the little cut thing here :))) im so sorry
yay yay yay !!! pls lmk if you think im like outing you too much here if you wanna keep a secret profile bcs then ill delete some of this, but like it was kind of because of the 2022 part? but mostly bcs of the spirituality part!! because i remembered that when i posted a couple of pepe gifs months ago, i saw your reblog of them and thought like "oh! pepe fan!! i like this person already" and i started looking through your blog 🤭 and like omg i must say, about your like manifestation post…. im very good at doing or saying stuff like that just for fun but recently they've started to come true quite often?? like i manifested clem's win in zandvoort last year… i said "arvid and luke will be the first f3 winners" several days before the first f3 session…. me and a dear friend talked about how lando would get his first win like two days before miami…… idk i think it's time for me to manifest a pepe win 😭😭
and god yes yes i agree!! i actually have a crazy fact here that i wasn't gonna say but i think i've said it on this blog before anyway so… my actual first name (i have several first names, no not middle names…. my parents wanted to be "funny" but it's actually a pain in the ass a lot of the time) is lotus…….. i couldn't make this up 😭 my mom always said it was because of the flower but my dad said it was bcs of the car ofc because it was more sneaky than naming your daughter like mercedes or ferrari lmao. and so that you chose that emoji, which is so dear to me because ive grown up loving lotus flowers and having plastic flowers all over my room and just 😵‍💫🫨 and okay i had a huge ariana grande phase when i was younger and i used to love "baby i" so much that my parents got me a tshirt of it for my like 13th bday… and guess what song came on first when i pressed shuffle on ☄️ anons pepe playlist today? THAT SONG 🙃 and guess where i used to keep that shirt (i never wore it)?? on my bedroom wall, and guess what used to stick up from that tshirt?????? A PLASTIC LOTUS FLOWER. I COULD NOTTT BE MAKING THIS UP 😭 sadly ive moved out of that room but i will do my very best to look for an old pic as proof because this is actually a bit insane to me…..
but yes i would also not be surprised if he came on a pod some day or whatever and said that he is a little spiritual and like u said has a lot of like pre-race rituals and :(((( cute
i'm very glad to hear that you liked the shaving thoughts !!!! i may have posted some more…. esp important stuff in the tags of that one 🫠 but aaaAaAa!! im going insane too!!! just the thought of hugging him is so !!!!!!!! i think hugging him would be so so nice? i feel like he can be very firm with it because he's just too strong, but then there's always some little detail that's so soft and that just makes your knees go weak 🥺 like he whispers something sweet in your ear before pressing a quick kiss to your neck… or he pulls away from the hug but keeps his hands on your hips, holding your lower bodies close… and the way he looks into your eyes so intently when you tell him about how your day was, his smile never leaving his lips and- 😭 idkkkk and just the thought of hugging him when he's not wearing a shirt, like i feel like he would have naturally warm skin? so cuddling up to his back would be so cozy ??? your nose tickling the skin between his shoulder blades or your cheek resting on his bicep or something…….. 👉👈 (and omg resting on his bare chest in bed aaaaaaaaaaaa dont get me started)
bby you had the tag hidden?? please??? 🥲 understandable tho to keep sane and focused ig… bcs idk how to not think about him all day every day tbh, anytime i see him its just 🫠
YOUR PEPE IS COCKY?!?! HELPPP I WANT THAT TOO 😭😭 HOW? WHERE? WHO? AAAAAAAAA
shsjshjssj anons being fans of anons 🥺 idk if ive heard that song before but it fit so well with the two of them 🥺🥰 kisses to the editor 😚😚
waaaaahhh your asks fuel my days too 😭 when i woke up to this ask this morning i got so giddy hehehe and im always longing to hear more from you <3333 and god youve contributed sm to my obsession too aaaaaaa !!! so glad we get to share this (and with everyone else here too) 💗💗

Alright, after a lot of draft sorting, scrolling back through my notifications and taking a lot of notes I have a list of everything I owe people / things I’m owed so at least I can keep links while I work on getting a thread tracker up lol.
In the meantime…
I owe replies, in no particular order because I’m a damn mess, to: @dcfygraviity / @mckiingbiird, @theircurse, @theladymuses, @nonhumen, @giftandguile, @moonhund, @longerhuman & @darknesstrayed !
This is across ALL my blogs btw, but mostly Chuuya / Ara, so rest assured if you’ve been waiting on me I do have it! I’m working on it! Life has just been hectic lately. Please expect replies to start coming out later today ( Friday ). Tumblr has been weird with queued replies before so if you see me reblog something and hastily delete it bc it was meant to go into my queue, no you didn’t!
If your name isn’t here but you know I owe you something on one of blogs PLEASE Dm me, Tumblr has always had scuffed notifications and it was definitely something I overlooked. I have never replied to a thing to begin a thread and suddenly decides ‘nah I’m not into this anymore’ and dropped it without warning so if I didn’t mention you it was definitely a mistake.
Thank you to everyone being so patient with me!

I actually quit tumblr a long time ago and began focusing my ever-waning depressed aging sadboi social media presence on my twitter but my girlfriend at the time I had met through tumblr had wanted me to come back here because she said she missed my presence but I'm not sure if it was some mindgame power dynamic thing because when I did come back she stopped ever actually interacting with me on tumblr which led her small army of orbiters to always ask her "who is this beta simp that replies to every one of your posts? You completely ignore him so is he like a stalker or something, you want me to take care of this babe?" And she'd have to ashamedly tell them "oh that's just my boyfriend"
But since I've been single again for like 2 years now I'm not sure exactly why I'm still here since I really only just reblog drawings of rouge the bat now
Anyway the POINT OF THIS IS that I'm switching phones and the only access I have to tumblr is through the phone app and it's PROBABLY NOT making it to the new phone
Never deleting this blog because I associate too many good memories with my time here but IN CASE I leave and don't come back you can find me at my twitter where it isn't solely retweets of titty art (but there's still a mild amount) and it's mostly just me not being funny like the good old days
I've also got a few projects on the go like the eternally in progress comic, a visual novel and an upcoming dnd podcast so if you're interested in any of those things that'll be where you'll get any updates on them
Love you guys
Later gamers

Okay, so here’s what happened earlier today for the sake of transparency:
Earlier, I made a post about one of the trans victims from the recent shooting and included the phrase ‘rest in power’. I’d heard that it originated from black people, so I had asked my black friend, and they said that it was for anyone who died from systematic injustice, so I posted it.
A few days pass and I get an ask from N (calling this person N for simplicity and anonymity) saying “hey this term is for black people.” I noted that N said in their bio that they were mixed race (both of which were not black), so I replied basically saying, “My black friend said that it’s for anyone who died from systematic injustice, I think I should listen to an actual black person on this.” My thought was that, if I got any asks from a black person with this concern, I would change it immediately.
N posted this answer to the ask without censoring my name (and even tagged me) and was like, “I disagree with this. Black people what do you think?”
So I was like “oh FUHUUUUCK NO” because I’m sure y’all know I have an extensive history with harassment online. So I changed my post and was like “uhh hey I changed my post so can you delete this? I feel like you made this mostly to put me on blast and I don’t feel like being harassed today honestly”.
N said that they weren’t harassing me (which I didn’t mean to claim, my fault for not being clear enough), and they removed all mentions of me from the post, which would have been a perfect compromise if there wasn’t someone in the notes of the post already @-ing me.
Also, N claimed that the post wasn’t rebloggable, so I made a sideblog to reblog it to prove that it was. Which this person took as me “being so mad” at them that I made a sideblog. (Also, someone in the notes of the original post (the one who was @-ing me) was like, “You making a sideblog to reblog one (1) post is HARASSING this person!” which…. Harassment happens over a period of time, it’s not one reblogged post to prove that a post can be reblogged, I didn’t rlly understand that)
So at this point, I DMed N to be like, “Hey, I changed the post like you wanted, and I’m really scared and have a history of harassment, could you pretty-please delete it? I know it seems stupid but I’m scared” (I chose not to mention that I have paranoid delusions bc that would seem manipulative I think?) and the person was like, “I don’t care about your feelings, you were aggressive towards me and you’re white” (idrk what the “you’re white” point is about, because this whole thing is about if a phrase is exclusive black people, and they’re not black either, although they’re also not solely white so I guess I sorta get it?).
And then they blocked me. (And according to my friend they posted about me crying “crocodile tears”? I’m sorry that I experience persecutory delusions and I get scared when experiencing them, it’s not my fault, enter that one meme)
And now I’ve gotten people purposefully sending me my triggers so I’m being targeted just like I feared I would. Lovely!
So, yeah, that’s what happened, again, for the sake of transparency. I changed the post a while ago, and it’s better to be safe than sorry. I’ve also since been informed by black folks that the person in question was correct! I’m gonna be donating a few bucks to some black folks in the mutual aid tags as reparations.
Also I learned this AFTER all this went down but apparently this person is fucking 30? And I’m a teenager so. Obviously, I did some things wrong (duh), but they were really out here beefing with someone two-thirds their age. My brain isn’t fully developed yet, what’s your excuse? (This is a joke.)
(Now I’m gonna do what this person didn’t do and put a ‘do not harass this person’ disclaimer: If you try to figure out who the person in this post is or seek them out, your mom’s a bitch. That helps nobody and it makes you look stupid.)
Edit: Added some things that I didn’t know about the situation. Also, update, I’ve been told by the same friend that they’re now screenshotting my posts behind a block… No comment.

KNOWING YOUR PARTNER WELL CAN POTENTIALLY MAKE WRITING TOGETHER A LOT EASIER. ( REPOST DO NOT REBLOG ! )
Tumblr media
NAME: Rae
PRONOUNS: She/Her. I try not to mind this too much but I really prefer she/her.
PREFERENCE OF COMMUNICATION: Discord first and foremost if I’m chatting with mutuals I’m threading with or will be threading with soon. Tumblr IMs are fine otherwise.
NAME OF MUSE(S): Sonia Nev.ermind
EXPERIENCE/HOW LONG (MONTHS / YEARS?): I’ve been writing since a year that begins with 19. I’ve come to accept I’ve been writing longer than some muns have been alive. Do not get me started on ‘back in my day’ stories about fandom and roleplaying communities.
PLATFORMS YOU’VE USED: In somewhat chronological order? AOL, Yahoo, AIM, YIM, Yahoo!Groups, Livejournal, Deadjournal/Greatestjournal, forums and emails, and tumblr. I missed the Myspace/Facebook/Twitter era of RP, mostly due to university monopolizing most of my time.
BEST EXPERIENCE: Meeting some RP friends in real life! We aren’t as close as we used to be, but I have acquaintances that I began writing with over 20 years ago, and I last saw one of them about 10 years or so. Real life jobs and new fandoms/interests/hobbies make it hard, but we stay in touch via Facebook.
RP PET PEEVES/DEALBREAKERS: I have a lot of these, to be honest. Most of them I tend to just ignore the best I can, or I choose not to write with someone because of it. But the top three that annoy me (beyond formatting issues) are:
1. Not writing rules or bios and not reading rules or bios. For the most part, content and style differences can be accounted for and addressed early as long as muns both write and read rules and bios. Where bios are concerned, description definitely helps, even with ‘popular’ canon muses. It gives me an idea of how you see and describe your muse, as opposed to bullet point facts (age/race/sexual orientation/etc).
2. Muns who continuously ask for memes and new threads while not replying to any of the interactions they currently have. Mostly as this often leads to no real character growth or development and an overwhelmed mun restarting all of their interactions or the blog itself. To be fair, I understand if someone is new or has unexpected life issues that result in this: this is more for the chronic meme/thread hoarders who delete and restart constantly. I feel like those muns don’t really care for writing at all, just notifications and asks. Which is off-putting.
3. Muns who continuously ask for romantic ships while not replying to threads/interacting with blogs. This is mostly because I don’t write an insta-ship muse, I write a slow-burn muse, and generally approach romantic relationships based on threads and IC interactions: let her meet your muse first and get to know them, and see if the chemistry is there. I don’t go into writing with a mun with a romantic ship in mind, right off the bat: mostly because it’s hard to deliver with threads if my muse just isn’t feeling it.
However, I recognize it can help break the ice, and plot, for some mutuals to establish a romantic ship immediately. It just doesn’t work for my muse, and so I tend to be uninterested in writing romantic ships with blogs who continuously keep asking for them. Can’t our muses meet as friends, to start at least? ☹️
FLUFF, ANGST OR SMUT: Yes. I write all of these, as long as they make sense for the thread and interaction, and my writing partner is comfortable with these topics.
PLOTS OR MEMES: Also yes! I just don’t like one-liners or starter calls, mostly: I like having the guideline of a meme or a plot idea for someone before I write a starter.
LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: Long. It’s always been that way for this blog. I use shorter replies as crack threads with mutuals, usually ones I have other established threads/interactions with.
BEST TIME TO WRITE: mid-afternoon to evening, after work and after I’ve had some caffeine in me. I’m most grouchy and tired in the morning, the entire morning.
ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S): Sonia and I have some common interests and, since my own style veers on the side of classic, vintage, and feminine, I do style her in clothing pieces I own or would like to. We also both come from well-off families, and sometimes I throw in details or situations I’ve either seen or have heard about from others. But she’s very chipper, optimistic, and friendly, and I’m far more blunt, cynical, and sarcastic.
Sonia loves Shi.rou Emi.ya. I love Lord El-Me.lloi II. If that doesn’t show our differences, I’m not sure what does (I don’t often have anime husbandos but the grumpy professor does it for me!).

It’s been said a thousand times before. But some of y’all need to learn how to be more generous with your interpretations of others’ motives and actions. Especially online, especially with strangers, especially where so much social context is completely stripped from every interaction (and even things that aren’t intended to be interactions: like people making silly posts for their 3 mutuals).
Some of y’all are needlessly aggressive to total strangers, defensive about the most trivial topics. A person making a bland, tonally neutral statement of their opinion ideally should not make you heated to the point of mocking and insulting them. If it does, that must be very stressful for you! I hope you can find a way to work around that and manage to make living in a world with other people more comfortable for yourself. You do not have to make your current discomfort everybody else’s problem though. It complicates life in a way that can be avoided and can make it more difficult for you to eventually find that comfort you’re after — being unpleasant to other people tends to reflect back into your life.
This isn’t aimed at anybody. I’m not vagueblogging about any of my followers or mutuals. I’ve just seen someone I formerly respected as they share my vocation and some positions on things publish a long and hostile reply to a frankly mild post about modern culture, and it was strong enough to completely reverse my opinion of them.
This is on top of noticing a revival of a kind of hostility I used to see more about ten years ago that declined for a bit (in my perception, at least) and has seemed to come back with a vengeance. Wishing violence on random strangers who have done you no personal harm is weird, actually. Not in that it’s uncommon (it unfortunately isn’t), but in that it’s maybe inappropriate, uncalled-for, unhelpful, and probably actively harmful for your own health — your spiritual health, if you’re into that kinda thing, or your mental/emotional/social health if that makes more sense to your worldview.
I’m trying to frame and phrase all of this as nonjudgmentally as possible, mostly because I’m personally not heated or especially sad or heartbroken or disappointed even, but I wonder if some of the people using this site are even thinking about the harm they might cause. I know I’ve said thoughtless things and immediately regretted it, had to go back and delete replies and reblogs and apologize because it settled in late that I said or did something that came from a place inside me that I didn’t like. It’s happened that I didn’t even notice that I said something inappropriate for the moment until someone reacted in a way that I didn’t expect, and I had to reevaluate and walk it back after damage had been done.
There may not really be a point to this. I’m always confused about the intensity of other people and their emotions and reactions, it’s something I’ve always had to grapple with. I would just like to see people be a little bit more even-keeled about pretty much everything online.
(All this to the exclusion of the very real and important feelings of anger and injustice that come from material places of harm. I’m not talking about that here.)
I’m hoping y’all are having a pretty peaceful evening.

REPOST DO NOT REBLOG !!
Tumblr media
NAME: Sev
PRONOUNS :  She/They!
PREFERENCE  OF  COMMUNICATION  : Mostly Discord, but I can do tumblr too if needed/preferred
NAME  OF  MUSE(s)  : Akira Kurusu! (For this blog anyway; if you wanted Discord we'd be here a while lmao)
EXPERIENCE  /  HOW  LONG  (  MONTHS  /  YEARS? )  : RP, since 2013-ish. My first-ever blog was made around there, and I've been RPing ever since, but I've been writing for a good few years before that. I'd saaaay maybe four or five? I can't check since I deleted all my oldest stuff, but it's around there.
BEST  EXPERIENCE :  In general, I'd say an RP I did with a pair of friends from another fandom with another muse from years ago - where my muse was being chased down by a worried friend after having run away (after either hurting them or BEING hurt, can't recall), and was offered a deal with the demon sin of Gluttony, which he took and has since forever regretted - that one took until 4am and was one of my favorites~ I don't think I've had something that's made me stay up that late just to get more of it, since.
RP  PET  PEEVES  /  DEALBREAKERS : I definitely hate when people control my character - taking them and making them act or move more than just briefly describing them taking a thing in a plot/thread where we both know they're gonna take the thing.
One dealbreaker I have though - Guilt trips. I've had people do this to me before where for whatever reason, I didn't really wanna thread something - either the thread itself wasn't something I wanted to do or I just plain didn't vibe with their muse and made an effort to tell them as politely as possible that I didn't think my muse would be able to interact well, if at all, with theirs. And always, ALWAYS the response would be them going to their blog, and vague-posting about me and how I should be writing with THEM if I wanted to rp so bad, as well as people guilting me into refollowing them after deciding I didn't want to follow them after all, usually for the above reasons of 'my muses won't gel with theirs after all, whoops'. Basically - if you knowingly, intentionally, try to leverage my anxiety as a means to keep me interacting with you, you can consider me gone. For good.
MUSE  PREFERENCES  FLUFF,    ANGST  OR  SMUT  : Fluff and angst are both amazing. Smut... Technically I'm okay with smut as a concept, but given the characters here are early-20's at best, and canonically in the range of 17, I do not want it on my blog in any capacity. I will block you if you try. Romance is fine, don't get me wrong! I love doing soft fluffy romance~! But I ain't doing no sideways tango shit with anyone but my old Layton buddies, because all our muses there are grown men and women in their 30's and 40's at LEAST.
PLOTS  OR  MEMES  : Plots. I am... extraordinarily bad at writing non-serious stuff. Even when I TRY to do sillies, they always come out serious. Sigh.
LONG  OR  SHORT  REPLIES  : I can do both! Buuuut if we thread a thread long enough my replies WILL steadily grow stupid long. I don't know why. It just... happens... ;w;
BEST TIME TO WRITE :  Any time! All time! As long as I'm awake! I have endless free time due to being pretty damn unhireable due to a perfect storm of people-based social anxiety, poor memory, and inability to develop marketable skills!
But yes - I'm awake and online pretty regularly any time between 9am and 12am Newfoundland time.
ARE  YOU  LIKE  YOUR  MUSE(S) : God I wish. I do channel a little bit of myself into them, and I wouldn't be surprised if that shows, but I'm nothing like Akira, nor any of his au's I've got in here. Don't have enough spine for that, lmao.

Spent a while this morning trying to make Tumblr less depressing for me to use. Cutting this mostly because it's long and not very important.
I don't know whether to be irritated or happy with Tumblr right now. Basically, having been active on Tumblr the last month (mainly just to promote Summer on Ferenginar), I'm reminded of why I don't actually like using Tumblr so I was thinking of taking a break from this site again.
But I thought, if I could just figure out a way to mute certain users on this site, Tumblr probably would be a lot more usable for me. I've been trying to implement that by creating a filter for the usernames I'd like to mute, but it's not great because (1) it doesn't have any effect on the notes of posts made by other people, so the filtered username and their full reply/reblog tags/additions still show up there, and (2) while it does hide the content of that user's posts in tag searches and when people I'm following reblog them, it's really easy to click the button to show the post anyway. If possible, I'd really rather posts of that type just not show up at all in searches or on my dash.
Normally, I would block the user, but this is what Tumblr says a block will do:
Blocked users will not be able to: Follow your blog. Message you. Send asks to your Tumblr. See your posts in their dashboard. Like or reblog your posts. See you in search results.
Note that none of that stuff is the functionality I actually need. That is all block ("do not interact with me") functionality, not mute ("I do not want to see this user's activity") functionality. Similarly, when you try to actually block someone, this is what Tumblr warns will happen:
They won't be able to follow [your blog], send [your blog] messages, see [your blog] in search results, or interact with any of [your blog]'s posts.
Again, none of that is the mute functionality I was hoping for.
But then I actually just tried blocking anyway, and it actually does come with some mute functionality? All the person's posts are gone for me in the tag searches, and so are their reblogs/replies/reblog commentary in other people's posts, which is what I wanted. Their posts unfortunately still show up when someone I'm following reblogs them, so the mute functionality isn't complete, but it's better. I'm kind of annoyed because I would have just done that earlier if Tumblr had actually described their own block functionality correctly?
I mean, ideally, Tumblr should have separate mute and block functions, but in the absence of that, a combined block/mute function is way preferable to me than just no mute functionality.
(Just in case it needs to be said, if I'm following you or you're following me, you're not the person I am blocking/attempting to mute.)
Anyway, the other change I made in order to make Tumblr more usable is that I wrote a maybe-functional Tampermonkey script to hide the number of notes that posts have in tag searches. I might extend this to posts on my dashboard as well, but we'll see. I hope hiding notes on posts makes browsing this site more pleasant for me -- I'm kind of surprised I couldn't find an existing script or extension that had this functionality as I thought this would be a commonly-requested feature.
Also, another triumph/rant is that it's been a really long time since Tumblr has done that annoying thing of randomly following blogs I didn't ask to follow. This has corresponded to the period where I've deleted the Tumblr app, so I can only assume that I was accidentally following people while scrolling through the app. I'm glad that doesn't happen anymore. (Tumblr is such a half-usable site... 🤷‍♀️)

the original version of this post was written in a burst of annoyance and frustration about what happened with jenna marbles. so, i found it again, and i deleted the original content. i reblogged the original with a new statement that more aligned with what i read and found out through listening to black creators on youtube, but no one saw it, and i wasn’t about to tag every person who liked, reblogged, and replied to the original version to check out the new addition. that would’ve been impossible.
i respect jenna’s decision to leave youtube, and i respect her holding herself accountable. she did the right thing, and it was wrong of me to bring up “cancel culture” as the means for her departure. no, she left on her own terms, and she made the decision to leave as a mature adult.
i was in the wrong when i wrote the original version of this post, and it blew up very quickly before i had the chance to really educate myself on why she left. i thought what i was doing would be in defense of jenna, but in reality, it was reducing her decision from being just that, into being a statement that was meant to appease a horde of “haters” that simply didn’t exist the way i originally thought it did.
i brought up, in my original post, all of the silly things she’s done on her youtube channel as a way to, i guess, excuse what she did, and that was wrong of me. her content now doesn’t take away from the harm her old content brought to other people during the years it was uploaded. and i’m sorry. the original version of this post was misinformed and severely incorrect, and because people mostly agreed with me early on, i thought i was saying the right thing. but i wasn’t.
to sum it up, i respect and wish nothing but the best for jenna, and i hope she takes care of herself and her pets, and i hope she’s doing well.
