Hey there lovelies! I hope the end to your week was good to you! A lots happened in the last 48 hrs, and I apologize I'm so late sharing some of it. Please let me know if I missed anything! I love how much people are really stepping up the love for cast members after all the Emmy stuff that went down. I see everyone just aggressively (I say affectionatly) loving so many of them and it's so heart-warming and uplifting. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but your love and kindness is so incredibly impactful. You may never get to see the fruits of your love (although the cast and crew does tend to show us they hear us) but know that every little bit builds up. Maybe someone was having a bad day, and seeing how much we love them gave them that extra boost to get through it-- you never know! There is an old greek proverb: "A society grows great when [folks] plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."

That is really true about kindness and support and love too. You are sowing the seeds and roots of a better tomorrow, even if you yourself never get to see the branches and fruit that love produces.

Never let the harshness of the world dim your light lovelies. Your kindness and love moves mountains tiny bits at a time.

I'm new to ofmd and I need some clarification. I see people on Twitter talking actively about how they're waiting for ofmd to be saved. Is this just a fandom meme at this point? Or there's reasons to believe there's still hope? Is this another Hannibal situation?

Hello! I think shows getting rescued from cancellation is always a possibility, cancellation doesn't always mean that a show will never return. The ratings were great, and the show is highly regarded. It was/is one of Max's biggest hits. It's easy to see a cancellation of a bad show and understand why, but in the case of this show it's even more frustrating because it is so wonderful (WBD/Max have made some questionable decisions lately) Our Flag Means Death was supposed to have 3 seasons, and it got cancelled early, and there's a whole story waiting to be told still.

The hope is that another streaming service will get the opportunity to take the show further. It's evident that the Cast/Crew have an incredible amount of love for this show, and I'm sure they'd all jump at the chance to continue if it was a possibility. I know it's tougher because it's diverse and LGBTQ+ and we have to fight harder for a space in media, but a lot of shows that frankly aren't as highly rated as OFMD have been picked up further down the line. So it's not impossible. Many months after cancellation, articles are still being written about OFMD, we are still here talking about this show and making waves. That has to count for something, right? None of us know what's happening at this stage (if anything) so it's all speculation and the occasional clowning, but I hold onto hope that a show this amazing still has a chance. There's always hope. Hope is not a bad thing to have.

7 years have passed since Samurai Jack got back to the past...

Highlights of events regarding Genndy Tartakovsky and the like during this time include the following:

Genndy in interviews talked about the importance of visual storytelling (including an obvious disliking for "This is me"-type openings in animated movies), reducing dialogue in the script for a sexual animated comedy called Fixed (produced by New Line Cinema, Sony Pictures Animation, and Renegade Animation), and the viewpoint that "Character design informs posing, and it all works together."

Samurai Jack has the Checkered Past lineup on [adult swim] joined, airing on Fridays (soon to be Thursdays) at 6:00 PM... technically like around 5:59 PM, due to other Checkered Past shows having end credits time-compressed. Cartoon Network's social media accounts promoted this with a clip from EPISODE XCVIII, which is the second post they made regarding specifically Season 5 since their first one, in which they used Mao Mao x Samurai Jack fan art to promote Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time... which is now deleted due to Warner Bros. Discovery purging Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart in an effort to save $3 billion.

Speaking of WBD's animation purge: Cartoon Network Studios' building is now abandoned as the crew was forced to relocate to a new building joining Warner Bros. Animation with affiliate CNS as another cost-cutting move. The Cartoon Network logo on the building was originally moved to the new building, but it was soon sold off letter by letter.

As if things couldn't grow worse; after MGM (on the home entertainment level, still an affiliate with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment/Studio Distribution Services) turned 100, Primal Screen, the studio behind much of Cartoon Network's branding including the Powerhouse era, announced that they were to shut down (likely due to financial issues - thanks a lot Warner Bros. Discovery). Buck's Pastel / Prism / Split-Screen branding is by far the cheapest, blandest, and ugliest one CN ever used, and the negative consequences of Discovery on Turner & WB make this era of CN truly the worse, with little sign of any improvement in their branding and their programming.

Unicorn: Warriors Eternal got the ACME Night marathons and airings it was promised to have, but that is unlikely to happen again since Cartoon Network stopped at 5PM with the debut of Checkered Past, causing ACME Night to be part of [as] as well (that may be just technical laziness on Discovery's part - they're already forcing Turner channels to use Discovery's rating & closed captioned screenbugs). Any future airing of Unicorn on TV, if any, so far will remain with the [adult swim] label, even on ACME Night (even though it was supposed to be for CN).

Relative to samurai in general; the Looney Tunes Cartoons episode "Yosemite Samurai" made its TV debut on Cartoon Network, though airing minutes earlier than the 9:30 AM schedule due to longer episode lengths.

Teen Titans GO! celebrated the 100th anniversary of Warner Bros. in October 2024 (was planned for September but was pushed in part due to revisions), and apparently "JACK, SAMURAI" was on the list! Dexter and Dee Dee, along with The Powerpuff Girls (in altered versions of the 2016 models), made cameos as well.

Tara Strong (a Zionist Jew and the voice of Ashi as well as Ilana Lunis) became controversial due to posts she made and liked speaking against the attacks against Jews by the Hamas, a terrorist group in Palestine. I may suffer from flack over this, but I honestly doubt that she is ultimately racist with the people of Palestine in general - just speaking against a terrorist group in Palestine killing people of her own race. May be that we're just too woke about racism?

The Powerpuff Girls Season 10 (the Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe revival; I personally count the 2016 "reboot" as Seasons 7-9 for a number of reasons) is still in production with people from Titmouse on the crew.

Dexter's Laboratory: The Complete Series DVD is set to release in June 2024... featuring the long overdue official US DVD release of Dexter's Laboratory: Ego Trip! There was a planned US DVD release long ago.

Warner Bros. may be 101 years old now (impressive considering that Discovery put them at over 60% risk of bankruptcy by December 2023), but they're not finished with celebrating their 100th anniversary; a screening of various WB (and affiliate-owned) shorts including Cartoon Network episodes like Dexter's Laboratory and the Steven Universe pilot "The Time Thing" (on which Genndy was the timing director) was announced for Annecy 2024.

Relative to a block that Samurai Jack used to rerun on; [adult swim] announced another nostalgic block: Toonami Rewind! This is so far exclusive to anime.

Personally, Cartoon Network entering into the Pastel era was bad enough, but Discovery exercising more control of WB affiliate Turner Broadcasting System pretty much killed CN for me (regardless of the many older shows airing on special occasions that weren't rerun on the network in years and even decades). I still remain faithful to a fair extent to CN, but, as you can see, there's a lot about the animation industry that's crumbling.

season 7 rewatch and my hate for en ami has not changed. I cannot watch csm and his crypt keeper looking ass touching scully while she’s asleep or having her at dinner with him in a fancy dress, they really just made this just to have some kind of sensuality between them but guess what, it’s just gross and it gives me the ick. that’s it. also what he says to her in the car about loving mulder, stfu because you might be right but also you’re not allowed to talk to her you creep!!!

I agree with you, anon. I didn't like the episode before the revival but after that it's even worse. WBD got what he wanted with that episode, I suppose.

Kinda surprised that it’s looking like Jensen’s first job since his Amazon deal announcement* will be… Tracker on CBS.

Obviously Hollywood is made of connections and Jensen has multiple working on Tracker. It’s also the kind of show that does fit his brand and is obviously doing very well regarding viewership. I just expected to see him in an Amazon property first, something where he’s the lead. That could very well still be coming though!

(*he did a cameo on Gen V but that was filmed months before the deal was announced)

He's had some bad luck with regards to the strike. He was supposed to be filming last December. There's a lot that got wiped clean during the strike, so just bad luck. I hope he's gonna get another project I've heard about, but the odds are against him. Nothing against him, it's just a rough time in an already rough industry.

He's doing an amazing job networking. One of his golf buddies and friends is Tony Vinciquerra, and Jensen gave his daughter a private tour through Burcon. Berlanti was a great connection until WBD shifted, so having great connections doesn't necessarily mean you'll get the job, but it does help a lot.

I keep saying, it's not what you know, it's who you know. Personally, I think Tony's pet projects have a better chance than Berlanti's, but as Jensen himself talked about, it's kinda amazing that shows actually get made when you know how hard it is to get them made.

I started watching Tracker and I haven't finished the first episode, but I enjoy it so far.

But at the same time, playing along with Netflix’s marketing department gets you way more than an Indianapolis event and an awards program that few people have heard of.

Maybe Netflix thinks the reality show (and working with the Harkles in general) is crap? They might've encouraged her "holier than thou" marketing tactics as a way to distance the company from the upcoming disaster. A way to bury it, yet fulfill their end of the contract so the litigious duo don't sue.

A definite possibility, that they just release it with 0 fanfare and 0 promotion. Let it sink in silence.

However, I think the posturing from her indicates that she WANTS it out for some reason, probably bc it means she gets paid a bit more or to threaten the RF or whatever. Whereas Netflix is quite willing to just muffle it.

Btw, there have been bigger deals that studios have walked away from bc it’s not worth the risk of reputation damage in putting out crap. Batgirl was supposed to come out this year. $90m spent on all the typical marvel things, with special effects, stunts, sets, and acting. And it was completely buried.

People make a big deal about Netflix “walking away” from the deal but Netflix basically tossed spare change at them. They have an overall deal, which means paying for costs up front with a blank check, up to “$$$ million” or whatever crazy number they cited. But they would only hit that number if they were Shonda, shooting bridgerton with actors and costumes and a team of writers. Yes, Netflix wrote off a year or two of them cosplaying royals in NY, the Netherlands, Uvalde (UGH), the salaries of the crew, her Botox injector, and wherever else … including jets, clothes, her makeup, probably even paying them salaries for existing … but in total what could that possibly be? $5m over 2 years? $10m max? That’s literally change they can write off in taxes to a company like that. And nothing compared to a real production budget that requires actors and commercial directors and costumes and FX.

i know supes and his supporting cast are supposed to be getting a lotta cool new books soon and i’m happy for that, i really am but… sigh i was really excited to see Superman and his Authority team go on dope adventures and save the world. that and i’m still salty about Jon as Superman being wasted and booted back into effectively treating him as the Nightwing of the franchise (forever forced to be just second rate, never allowed to be in the spotlight in a way that matters)

Yeah I do get a little depressed when I think of how all the work Morrison put into setting up the Authority as Superman's new team ended up going nowhere. Combination of the sales for the Warworld Saga not being great, Gunn rebooting the movies around Clark mandating that he return to a "recognizable" status quo, and their attempt with putting Jon over being a complete disaster. Irony is that with Williamson's new book being A. Great, and B. Superman in a recognizable status quo where he's at the Daily Planet and what not, they could have just let PKJ keep Action as the cosmic book where Superman is out there with the Authority. With the Authority movie coming perhaps there's still a chance those Authority plans that PKJ has teased come to pass. Unlikely that it would be the same Authority team Morrison created, but you never know.

Oh and Jon isn't even the Nightwing equivalent, that would be Kara. She's the one in the big blockbuster summer movie coming soon that WBD is hyping up as the best cape flick since The Dark Knight. She's the one who got the Tom King prestige mini that is selling out across the country, and is forming the basis for her upcoming solo movie. Supergirl is the clear #2 figure in the Superfamily currently. Jon is... well he's not quite Tim tier, but he's suffering from the same sort of aimlessness and uncertainty over his future. Only a matter of time until he gives up the Superman name I reckon, especially since Apollo is likely going to explode in popularity once that Authority movie gets made. DC will likely pivot to pushing Apollo as their most prominent LGBT flying brick once that happens.

After All That, ‘The Flash’ Wound Up Underperforming On Opening Weekend

“The Flash,” a superhero adventure starring Ezra Miller, emerged victorious over Pixar’s “Elemental” in a battle of box office lightweights.

The Flash was supposed to be a sure thing. Warner Bros. Discovery so believed in the big solo film for Justice League member Barry Allen that they stood by Ezra Miller, its troubled star, through thick and thin — even as they pulled the plug on the nearly completed Batgirl. The film, they hoped, would help save the flailing DCEU. It was supposed to be massive. And then came opening weekend, when it was up to moviegoers to decide its fate.

They showed up alright, but not in the numbers WBD had hoped. The corporation was hoping for $70-$75 million opening weekend. As per Deadline, they got $55.1 million. For the four-day holiday weekend, the projection is only $64 million. Not even the Cinemascore is that good, with audiences giving it only a B.

What happened will be debated in the days and weeks and months to come. Perhaps Miller’s antics — running amok in Hawaii, robbery, possibly starting a cult, before finally agreeing to seek help last summer — may have done even more damage to the film’s reputation than once assumed. Perhaps few were that excited to see a Flash movie, even one that brings back an old Batman. Perhaps superhero fatigue is truly setting in.

In other news, Pixar had a rare bomb with Elemental, which only scared up $29.5 million (but which nabbed an A on Cinemascore). At least Asteroid City, the latest from Wes Anderson, had great news. Opening in only six locations, it made $790K over three days, with its four day tally estimated to be $890K. That gives it the best per-screen average since La La Land in 2016.

I’m 24 Today!

Today is my birthday! I’m 24 years old now! 🎉🥳🎈🎁 along with me turning 24 today,I watched Good Burger,my sister got me a SpongeBob-themed cake at Publix,and I got some birthday gifts from some of my family. We were supposed to go out for my birthday dinner at Ruby Tuesday’s tonight,but we had to postpone it to tommorrow,along with using my cake tommorrow and blowing out my candles.

Some of the birthday gifts I got were:

-DuckTales-Scrooge McDuck Funko Pop

-Ed,Edd,n’ Eddy:The Complete Series DVD(since I’m less interested in HBO Max recently(except for using it on occasions to watch stuff like Looney Tunes Cartoons,Harley Quinn,Billy and Mandy,Dexter’s Laboratory,Foster’s, and Jellystone! and movies like DC League of Super Pets,Black Adam,Godzilla(2014),and Elvis),mostly because of the way they purged several CN and WB shows off the service last year and WBD later removed hundreds of classic Looney Tunes cartoons and Seasons 4-6 of The Flintstones off Max and took the original Animaniacs,Pinky and The Brain,and Tiny Toons off Hulu earlier this year. I decided it’s better to buy complete series DVD’s of these shows instead,I’ll probably order a complete series of Courage next too).

I've said it before, I can't be happy for Nicholas when I know this WBD situation is a complete mess. Hopefully the merger will cancel the film and he could probably be put in another project, but I am not pretending these bad decisions the executives are making INSTEAD of the guy who's supposed to be in charge are good decisions.

Went down the En Ami rabbit hole a bit, and it seems WBD was trying to achieve a few things:

S7 was considered to be the last season right from the first ep, so a lot of threads were wrapped up and actors/directors encouraged to put whatever they wanted out there (hence All Things and Hollywood A.D., etc.) WBD wanted to do a script on his character (having not liked how CSM was protrayed in Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man) showing his menace and his twisted yearning.

En Ami was supposed to be CSM's attempt to seduce Scully with science and FAIL, even making himself ridiculous to "humanize" himself to her. I wonder what the original draft was (which included water skiing, a callback to his mild threat? to Tena in Talitha Cumi about their past) and how much it was tampered with.

WBD is very much on the side of "CSM is a repulsive baddie", going to cons faux-pretending to take his side so fans could say how awful he is, then follow it up with (loosely quoted), "Yes, but HE doesn't think so."

All in all, not a great episode-- but knowing the track record of other ideas the actors (namely David Duchovny) gave the writers only to have them hacked up and leaving said actors (namely DD) frustrated enough to finally direct their own episodes makes a lot of sense.

Interesting! Thank you. I think parts of the original script were going around once? I feel like I read some of it - and didn't really care for the episode then either. I just watched Hollywood A.D. last night and it makes sense to make such a silly episode when you think the show is going to be over soon. Though I feel by then they must have known it wasn't over.

I don't know how it is on long-lasting shows and whether actors are generally interested in writing/directing. I feel it happens quite a bit. At least the directing. DD must have been frustrated a lot cause he pitched in long before he wrote a whole episode. And can anyone blame him?
