[  Dr Henry Miller ] So… He’s finally gone. Good riddance. William was always a foolish creature. Easy to manipulate… No family, no childhood… All I needed to do was make him hope. He died like he lived. A coward. But, YOU.  I didn’t molly-coddle you, did I now? I left you to die in that suit, 50 years ago. I could have saved you, but I chose not to. YOU found your own way out of that suit. You proved your usefulness to be superbly. And look at you now. You’ve blossomed. William was lonely, deep down. He fancied himself my partner. In a way, he saw me as the father he never had. And saw his time at the Diner as the childhood that was always just out of his reach. Of course, I never considered him my partner. He was a lacky. Someone I knew how to manipulate. My little puppet. But, you? You have a vile imagination.  You have no conscience.  No soul pushing you back. This past weekend, Madrid’s Cívitas Metropolitano stadium traded soccer balls for lightsticks to host Kpop Lux, another macro concert K-pop experience in Europe, this time boasting acts like SHINee, IVE, ENHYPEN, and Ateez, among many others, in its lineup. 

Tens of thousands of fans congregated on site on the outskirts of the Spanish capital (with even more tuning in online) to enjoy over three hours of songs, segments, and games from their favorite K-pop acts. Though there were many memorable moments throughout the night, it was clear that all eyes — both from fans and fellow acts — were on SHINee, the inimitable second-gen representative celebrating their 15th anniversary this year. 

As the time came for SHINee to take the stage to close the event, the stadium, which is home to the Atlético de Madrid team, traded its traditional red color scheme for SHINee’s pearl aqua green thanks to the many shinning Shawol lightsticks. After a quick introductory montage featuring fellow idols highlighting SHINee’s journey and legacy, the act finally took to the stage to perform “Don’t Call Me,” fan-favorite “View,” “Juice,” and “Hard,” leaving the crowd ecstatic but also craving more.

Before they headed on stage, Teen Vogue briefly caught up with SHINee's Key, Minho, and Taemin backstage at the Kpop Lux SBS Super Concert in Madrid to chat about their time in the city and the role fashion has played in their 15-year trajectory. (And, yes, also teeth brushing.) 

Teen Vogue: Hi, everyone! How are you enjoying Madrid? I've been getting some of your antics online and saw some of you went shopping during your downtime. What have you been buying in Madrid?

Key [to Taemin]: What did you get?

Taemin: First, I went to Loewe and noticed that the price was considerably lower than in Korea, which impressed me. Then, I went shopping at a department store and found a lot of clothes with discounts. I think they were having a sale so I was very happy. I actually saw the photos that were taken [of me on social media], too. I think I did a good job because I bought many things that aren't available in Korea and that aren't as cheap in Korea as well. That was a win for me. [Laughs.]

TV: Nice. Yeah, that was good thinking. So, you had your 15th anniversary not that long ago. Congratulations!

All: Thank you!

TV: You also won your 69th no. 1 trophy at Inkigayo not that long ago…

Key: Did we? 

TV: Yes. I don't know if you saw this online, but there was a tweet that went semi-viral after that that pointed out how SHINee is now one of the very few acts to have won first place across three decades in these types of broadcasts. I think that's wild because you are all barely three decades old. How does it make you feel to be hitting these types of milestones when you're still pretty young?

Minho: We are thrilled to have won first place in three different decades. But I think it's not just our efforts; these are trophies we have achieved together with our fans, so I just want to say once again how immensely grateful we are for that. [To do it with our fans], it's really a feat that makes us feel happier than anyone in the world.

TV: Across the 15 years that you've been active, you've done a lot of music videos, stages, everything. Is there a style or look you've worn that's your absolute favorite ever? And are there any that make you go a bit like, “Ehm, I shouldn't have done that”?

Key: When we film a video, we can't help but reflect on the trends of the time. If you rewatch our old music videos, most of them do feel somewhat dated, but, at that time, that was the best fashion. Of course, it feels old school now. For that reason, I think I'd be the least embarrassed to pick our most recent music video, "Hard," as my favorite style-wise. [Laughs.]

Key: You think? I mean, we love "Sherlock" and "View," but it was seven or eight years ago, so…

TV: "1 of 1." I like that one a lot.

Key: Oh, yes. "1 of 1," actually.

TV: I think that's timeless.

Key: Yes.

TV: Have you ever liked an outfit that you've worn for a music video so much that you felt like you wanted to steal it? Or have you ever kept anything from a music video set because you liked it so much?

Taemin: Yes, I have. [Laughs.] There are many clothes I wear in music videos that I like actually, so I sometimes buy the same thing or just borrow them from the production team. I actually [really liked] the clothes I wore in the music video for "Hard." We wore brands that are on the up again these days in terms of popularity, such as Chrome Hearts. I actually loved the Chrome Hearts beanie I wear in the video, and I really wanted it for myself, but it was so hard to get because of the limited stock, so I searched through the web, in foreign sites, etc., and I finally managed to get one second hand.

TV: Well, that almost answers my next question, but here it goes anyways. How would you say your personal style differs from the style that you wear on stage?

Minho: Honestly, for me, I think it's very different. I think we have to be flashier on stage since our clothes need to be seen by people who are far away and we need our fans to really notice us and, naturally, the styles end up not being just your regular everyday clothes.

Taemin: I'm the opposite.

Key: [Laughs.]

Taemin: I think my thing is to take away a few elements from my stage outfits. Of course, on stage, it's going to be flashier, bolder, and over-conceptual…

Key: But whatever you're wearing in that era informs your personal tastes?

Taemin: Yes, that's exactly it. My personal style is kind of similar to my stage clothes, but I just dial it back a tiny bit. It's the same vibe but a bit more subtle.

TV: Going into beauty a little bit, I know Taemin, you recently went super viral because Key exposed your teeth-brushing habits…

Taemin: [Laughs.]

TV: Do any of you have any other peculiar beauty habits, or fashion habits, that you have not shared with anyone?

Minho: Mmm, habits…

Taemin: I've been doing this lately. Because my personal style is very cool and trendy normally, I like to spice it up by adding cute items. Key rings, specifically. I recently got a Donald Duck key ring to attach to my clothing, and the fans really liked it. I saw a lot of fans getting the same key ring and attaching to their clothes as well. That was really fun. I was really feeling that for a while.

TV: That's really cute. Any other "weird" habits?

Key: Any weird habits? Well, there are times when we go abroad and [our skins] are not really used to the type of water, so we have to wash our faces with bottled water.

Taemin: [Laughs.]

TV: Been there. Okay, last question. I know you haven't been performing as much because all of you were away for a while, but now you're back together. You had a fan meeting in Seoul in May and are back to performing live again. Do you have any backstage rituals that you do before you go out and perform? Or something that you 100% need to do before going on stage?

Taemin: Brush my teeth. [Laughs.]

Key: We talk too much. We talk too much behind the scenes. 

Taemin: We do.

Key:  And what else is there?

Taemin: But, hyung, I think you also know the taste of brushing your teeth before going on stage. It's refreshing!

Key: Um. We just get ready; that's the feeling.

Week 1: Beginning with Spring!

1st: Seeds (The beginning)

Looks like Kotori is planting a garden! 

Who are you and what seeds will you bring to help her out?

2nd: Sprouts

As per Takashi’s calculations, the sprouts have emerged just in time! Gotta love a student who applies his knowledge. 

Who is your favourite character and what makes you like them?

3rd: Buds

Alit and Gilag’s Tiger Lilies and Spider Lillies miraculously budded together. It’s like they’re best friends just like their planters. 

What are your favourite friendships? 

4th: Flowers

Astral loves the flowers. Even though they bloom and scatter in a short amount of time, the memory remains long in the envoy’s mind. 

What are some of your favourite memories and scenes from Zexal? 

5th: Fruits

Tokunosuke is stuffing his face full of cherries and praying his neighbours don’t find out. Unfortunately, they do and he learns a lesson in communication. And the consequences of stealing. 

What lessons has Zexal taught you? Alternatively, what consequences do you wish some characters faced up to?

Week 2: Diving into Summer!

8th: Sunshine

After much cajoling from his brothers, Christopher finally got out of the house and went to the beach. It’s not bad, he supposes. It’s pleasantly warm, even. (If only he didn’t get so easily sunburned). 

What parts from Zexal warmed you up? Create something heartwarming.

9th: Sea

Ryouga likes to visit the sea to gather his thoughts and relax. The locks at low tide are an added bonus. It’s nice… until IV and his alarmingly sunburned brother show up. 

Zexal characters going on vacation. Where are they going and what would they pack?

10th: Barbecues

Uh-oh! Looks like Gauche messed up all the patties at the BBQ he was so excited to have. Luckily his friends brought their own things!

11th: Mixtape

Unfortunately, Vector is going through a Soundcloud rapper phase. (He says he’s special because he mixes it with 2000s Punk and alt).

Durbe loves borrowing books from the library and then reading them under the summer sun so much that he usually falls asleep reading.

Week 3: Falling into Autumn

15th: Sweater Weather

Rio loves to curl up with her favourite movie playing in the bg and a cup of coffee in her hands. She’s got a keen eye for fashion and loves to wear her sweaters inside the Barian mansion. 

What’s the ideal watching environment for you? What episode would you rewatch?

16th: Falling Leaves 

Walking through Heartland’s parks during the fall is a lovely sight. Tetsuo thinks maybe he could enter his school’s photography contest this year. Hayami Shuta’s been #1 for 5 years straight but the imagery here might give him a run for his money.

17th: Back to School

After a long summer break, Yuma is late for school again! Scrambling out of bed, he dreads the long lessons but looks forward to meeting his friends again!

What kind of student do you think your favourite character is/was? Is it time for a Middle/Highschool/University AU? 

18th: Pumpkin Spice

Black Mist never got the hype over pumpkin spice until he stole a prep’s body and tried some. Now it’s all he drinks and he thinks he’s starting to turn orange. 

Give your favourite a pumpkin spice… thing. What happens? Does anyone die?

19th: Trick or Treat

It’s Thomas’ favourite holiday and he doesn’t care Heartland City doesn’t officially recognise it. He’s going to be the COOLEST Destiny Leo anyone has ever seen. It’s going to be a sight for his fans. 

Redesign your favourite Zexal character! Alternatively, give a Zexal character a cool outfit/costume. (Or… are they the costume?! Cosplayers, if you’re waiting for a sign, this prompt is especially for you).

Week 4: Winter

22nd: Snow

It’s Anna’s first snow in Heartland and it’s colder than she expected. Maybe she will have to buy that coat and apologise to Kotori for calling her weakling. 

It’s unexpected friendship/shipping day!

23rd: Holidays

During winter break, Kaito and Haruto like to go out to the countryside villa and watch as the snow slowly falls. Alone in the snow, the two brothers realize that home is wherever your family is. Even if your family includes a robot nanny.

What holidays do you think the characters in Zexal celebrate?

24th: Cold

“Achoo!” Every winter, Micheal catches a cold and ends up having the entire Arclight household fussing over him as if he were a young child. He likes the attention, he supposes, but did the medicine have to taste so bad? They’re living in the future for crying out loud! At least he has time to organise the things in his room…

What does your fave’s bedroom look like? Design a room for them if you can. Also, we apologise to every artist in advance for asking them to draw backgrounds today.

25th: Moon in the river, plum wine in my hand, I weep for the stars

Thus goes a poem from Mizael’s diary. He only shares his poems with very close friends, which is a pity because they’re all wonderful. 

Write a Zexal poem/ode/limerick/haiku or whatever your heart desires.  

26th: Do you want to build a snowman? 

No! Not like that! Vector’s entry for Heartland’s snowman building contest is…concerning to say the least. There’s no more red food coloring in the pantry is all I can say. 

It’s a snow day! How does your character spend it? Or, how does your favorite character build a snowman?

Week 5: New Years

29th: New Years

The Tsukumos walk to the shrine. It’s almost midnight, you see, and they’re going to ring in like the new year like they always have. After reminiscing on all the fun times they had throughout the year, ending it surrounded by their loved ones, it’s a perfect conclusion.

I KNOW THIS IS LONG BUT PLEASE HEAR ME OUT

okay so ive been on tumblr for at least 10 years and never make my own post but something has really been bothering me about legacies and the writers. 

i keep seeing a lot of posts that mention hope being a minor or being 17 and i totally understand why people would think that but: 

HOPE IS DEFINITELY AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD AND HERES WHY:

she was 15 in the final season of the originals and i am about 95% sure that there were supposed to be 2 years between the originals finale and the start of legacies. that puts hope at 17 at the start of the series. josie and lizzie turn 16 in episode 1x06. their birthday is listed as march 15th, 2014 on the wikia. hopes birthday is listed as may 2nd, 2012. so even though it isnt mentioned, we can assume that hope turned 18 before the s1 finale and if not then before the start of s2 since s2 starts after summer. then in 2x15 we see the twins 17th birthday we know that hope is most definitely 18 at this point and will be 19 soon since the twins birthday is mid march and hopes is early may. and from here on out they havent mentioned any dates or months as far as i can remember, but there are 20 episodes between the twins 17th birthday and the episode where hope dies. there are only 48 days between the two birthdays. there is a three week time jump in 3x05. that is a 21 day jump which leaves 27 days. now even if we exclude that episode with the 3 week time jump, there is no way it is possible that they havent covered 27 days in 19 episodes. im not going to go back to rewatch all of them right now but i know just off the top of my head that there are multiple episodes where they clearly span more than a single day. so in those 20 episodes, hope had to have turned 19 at one point or another. there is no possible way she is still 18. i honestly dont know how because it is really not that hard to figure out but it is insanely obvious that the writers dont even know how old their main character is.

what's your favorite memory of 2022 so far? :)

oh thats a toughie!!!! i think my march 15th canucks game against the devils! there were like 8 of us and we made SUCH an obnoxious sign to get my friends bf who was visiting from the netherlands a puck. we had these bright green arrows too and bo saw our sign, chuckled, and sent a puck over to us which made us endlessly happy

if you watch the highlights of that game you can see the green arrows in the corner of the screen haha! we also made it onto the sportsnet stream so i go and rewatch it constantly to remember my 15 minutes of fame. it was such a good night and so many good memories!!!! but honestly most of my best memories of 2022 have come from the canucks games ive been to, theyre always an excellent time

Tenet timeline

OK, hold my beer while I logistic-nerd the hell out about the nitty-gritty timelines of Tenet. Hilariously, the problem here is NOT the time-travel, it's how the fuck to fit Mumbai-to-Italy-to-Tallinn into a week and still give Neil time to actually achieve the insane heist-shopping-list that the Protagonist throws at him (without him actually being Cedric Diggory and having stolen Hermione's time-turner, as @gentlyepigrams​ suggested and which I am VERY INTO, someone write that fic so I don't have to).

Here's the best timeline I could put together, having taken notes during a rewatch of the film. The only hard date given in the entire thing is for the Kiev / Stalsk-12 / Vietnam conjunction of events - which Neil states at one point is "the 14th, ten days ago". (So I used January 2021 because why not.) At another point, they note that Tallinn happened a week after Oslo. ("It's impregnable." / "It wasn't a week ago.") So basically I've hinged everything off that.

Bottom line: the Protagonist has had a MESSED UP FORTNIGHT.

From the 15th until the 21st, he wakes up on the boat, gets dropped off at a windmill, gets taken back to shore, gets a crash course in inversion theory, goes to Mumbai (let's say 8 hours on a plane), jumps off a building with Neil, goes to London (about 10 hours), deals with Crosby, goes to a tailor, has dinner with Kat, has a bracing fight in a commercial kitchen, meets Kat again, and gets on a plane to Oslo (barely 2 hours, hardly worth mentioning).

That's assuming Neil and Mahir put together the Oslo job in barely 24 hours because they are FERAL CHAOS GENIUSES which is fine, I can buy that.

This is where things get hairy on the timeline. After the second pass through Oslo Freeport, the Protagonist specifically says, "In two days time, Priya tells me about the 241." So he has to meet with Priya in Oslo the next day, and then she meets with him again in Mumbai the day after that. (Hats off to Priya for keeping a straight face when he calls saying, “Hey, I’m in Mumbai! Wanna chat?” and she’s all, “I’M NOT Ummm maybe tomorrow.”)

The Protagonist goes from Mumbai to Italy to make contact with Kat (Italy Day 1) and attend a dinner, and then do some sailing (Italy Day 2) and have a yacht-sleepover cut short by ultraviolence. Let's say he gets on a plane to Tallinn THAT NIGHT because as it is, they have a whole TWO DAYS to plan the high-precision execution of the Tallinn heist, and that's gotta be tight, even if Neil has been on the ground and investigating there since Priya told the Protagonist about the 241 in Mumbai a whole three days earlier.

It's all backwards from there - back to Oslo, then a couple of days forward on a Scandinavian timeline until they make contact with Ives off Trondheim and invert all the way back to the 14th again. (Kat inverts to the 13th to make it to Vietnam for the same timeframe. Mahir is the big question mark here: does he invert also, in which case why is he meeting Kat in Vietnam and not travelling with her? Or is he getting instructions from the Protagonist before he meets him in this timeframe?)

The other extant question here of course is when Neil inverts to go back to Kiev. There's probably a day's travel in that. So does he go back, go hit up Kiev, then invert again to come BACK to Stalsk-12? Like, seriously, Neil's extremely long no-good terrible awful fatal day! But also, if he can do THAT, why can’t he just... go do other things for a while and then come back for his finale number later?

All right, I want my beer back now.

he spoke to simon when simon was the first one tp respond, to have the power to reach him he would have to be under treatment already, outsode of the centre but at the same time have access to it

watching TNG season one and the amount of meaningful side eyes, glances, short shared moments, whispers etc between Data and Geordi are everything. The way Data always looks over to him when something happens, like his first reaction is seeking eye contact. I love it!
