Hey! How do you do lineart & Sketches???
You’re one of my biggest inspirations for drawing and I really love your art style!
UM??? THANK YOU?? I 🥺🥺🥺
I’ll try to word this as best as I can but I am honestly terrible at text descriptions/explanations sometimes, so I’m sorry if anythings unclear or odd. My process also varies sometimes depending on the artwork
Sorry for somewhat long answer ahead!
Usually for any artwork that I know will take a longer amount of time, I start with a really quick 1 minute sketch to get the proof of concept down. It doesn’t have to look good and the proportions may be very off and really messy but thats ok, my main goal is just to get the whole idea down and interpret it again later. I write notes next to the sketches sometimes if I have a specific thing I want to include later like for the coloring or lighting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After that, I usually make a revised sketch on top of that and keep tweaking or redoing the sketch until I get something I like. This is also where I reccomend you start checking proportions and flipping the canvas. The first and third image had to be revised before I was able to make lineart I was happier with. Some other times I just jump straight into the lineart if I think the sketch already looks ok (but this is kinda risky as I usually end up having to resize a lot of the lineart later when doing this, which can end up dropping the quality of the selected area and making it slightly blurred compared to everything else. Sometimes I just end up redoing the lineart entirely for the selected area when this happens).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When coloring the lineart I try to mostly color lines that exist inside the silhouette of the person, but I’m also kinda loose with this rule and also will color anything on the edges if I think it looks better in a certain instance.
I’ve been trying to keep my lineart much thinner and enjoy using Procreate’s ballpoint pen for lineart. For sketches I usually use whatever feels most satisfying or convenient or just try a new brush for sketching to spice up my process every now and then.
In worst case-scenarios, if I’m really struggling to get something I like when sketching, then I just keep redoing the sketch and trying to figure out what I don’t like about it. The undertale the musical gif had something around 6 redo’s before I finally liked it enough to give it lineart
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sometimes I also try making quick messy color mock-ups of my sketches to plan out colors or specific effects for later to test what colors I like and what I think would look good for later. I also might write notes if there’s any extra details I think of that I want to include later
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thats everything I can think of, I hope this helps and sorry again for this being a pretty long answer, its the best way I could think to explain my process, but I hope its a bit helpful at least!

I am looking thru files rn and take a lot of pictures of my own art for progress, bc I think like many creatives, it's hard to explain or describe how i get from point A to B in art. im a horrible teacher but this piece for example: (explained under cut)
Tumblr media
i tried drawing their little cafe outfits really fast but i just didnt vibe with it. idk what made me want to redo the whole thing. i like the attempt at cooler colors for asougi though. so then we move onto these and:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the first pic looks like an absolute MESS, but what i generally do is get a sketch down, and COLOR out of the way first? I assume it's to set the general tone/ vibe for the piece, which is why you notice a lot of plain color blocks in the bg. then i go back and do lineart and merge all the layers to paint! :D
tbh it's a very back and forth process, and the best way someone described it to me is "you put down blobs of color and then go crazy" which is very, very true.
I think i like the aspect of "carving" in traditional art, where you kinda play around with paint so you go over it again and try something new. so i try to apply that to digital. i think in a lot of my pieces you can see i teeter on the line of messy lineart with color to full blown painting.
anyways there was no point of this, but this is why i always wanna keep track of old art and why i go and revamp old concepts. like i can always try again! also why thumbnailing is very. very. important. but my main goal in art is to have fun when u can, so that's why i play alot.

Someone commented on an old video recently asking me (genuinely) if one of my speed paints was AI because 1) it was broken up into highlights for TikTok, and 2) I have a very unorthodox sketching process. So, I have decided to show the entire ass backwards way I sketch out the nearly incomprehensible nonsense that my mush brain spits out at me.
To preface, I use Ibis paint x on a cell phone.
I do not have a fancy program like procreate or clip studio, or even a tablet and a lot of how I work has evolved from what I have found works the best for drawing on my tiny, little, shitty phone screen.
That being said....
A speed paint video
To begin, I rarely map faces more than just very basic shapes. (Though, I will admit the structures can get more complex the less comfortable I am with drawing the face.) I usually start with a very basic framework that I implement half from just years of practice in drawing faces and becoming more comfortable with those base shapes, as well as the fact that I'm already aware I will inevitably be over using the liquify pen. Now, I would like to say this is a crutch and I just do it because it's easy, but unfortunately it's actually just because I have fat fingers and a tiny screen (sometimes I can place lines better with my pen but it's still a really small surface to work with) and it's just less of a headache to address the lines with liquify than redoing them a million times or zooming in so close that I lose the rest of the picture.
I will often start with faces because they tend to have the most small details. From there, I will then usually shrink the drawing down and place it about where I think it'll need to be to draw the next part, all while less than strategically erasing the piss poor guidelines I had originally given myself.
SOMETIMES I will save my guides of a second layer in case I might need them later, but that's about as far as I ever plan ahead to be honest...
And we can see that in the next part where after scribbling in a few vague marks for their hair I then IMMEDIATELY regret erasing my head guides and hastily sketch them back in so I can proceed to poorly map out their bodies (most of which I will inevitably be covering up anyway, which I KNEW was going to happen with this one and I cursed myself the entire time). I then fill in where I want all the glorious hair, which fills up the rest of the blank space in the art with fun and interesting shapes and conveys the lore of the AU.
After this, and to take this from a sketch to actual lineart, I will clean up some of the lines on a second layer and keep some of the original sketch features where I like them. This helps me keep the life of the original sketch while also allowing me to clean up the more scratchy lines, which usually produces a pretty nice, clean looking line work.
Should I do a lore drop for my AU next??
Kinda want to...

Today's drawing is a bg wip! I can share this one because it's not spoilery. Perspective is HARD but somehow the sketch looks alright. But everyone knows lineart is the hardest part hahaha.... 😔 I'm no background artist, but I have about 6 bgs to do for day 1 alone (and that's not including day/night variations)... I'm gonna keep trying my best to keep with it but honestly, if I feel its way too much of a pain to do, I might just use some free assets instead so the whole creation process goes much faster. The issue is finding the exact aesthetic I want for the setting...
I'm trying to not be too hard on myself; My plan is to get a working game going so people can enjoy the story at least, and then ultimately redo all the assets in the future when my skills have improved. Even so, kinda hard to beat some sense into a life-long perfectionist 🥲

🩸"Worst Night of my Life" Sticker Design🩸
Finally finished it!1!1! Pls excuse the pixelation, it's bc the design is pretty small (like 3in x 2in). I'm thinking about eventually redoing the lineart in Adobe Illustrator to fix that and to play around with different line colors :3
I love Sylveon sm but I kinda wish she had a few more colors just to make her look as interesting as Meowscarada. Like ik the tips of her feelers are colored but I couldn't find a good way to incorporate them in2 this drawing :/ I decided to make her shiny bc I thought it matched Meowscarada a bit better & also I thought it'd look cool XP
I went for very few highlights, dramatic shadows, and very stylized blood (I mean even more stylized than how I already draw blood lolz) bc I wanted to really lean in2/ emulate a cartoon or comic style. Ermmm n e ways I luv how this turned out! Hopefully I'll be able to do some test prints later this week.
Photos: transparent background and white background.

So uh
I went unexpectedly hard as fuck on this So the story is that I was hanging out in my discord server with my friends and my friend who i will call bird man, talked how he should draw his dragon character asoma at some point but he doesnt have a design for him yet. I know bird man struggles with drawing and character design and I also just love (re)designing characters for my friends so I innocently asked what he would describe the character to look like, thinking I probably wouldnt be able to make him anything with my current state of mind and body. I get a vague description (which is no problem because it means more creative freedom) and get to work on sketching
This was my first draft that I shared:
Tumblr media
Colors were a lil rushed because i hadnt eaten anything and was waiting for groceries to be delivered so i set out to render it once i had my groceries and i had eaten a bit Then after eating and doing the dishes I refined the sketch to this
Tumblr media
I changed the head angle and added wings so there wouldnt be as much empty space Then i set out to do the lineart with a new brush, leading to some experimentation before i ended on this:
Tumblr media
Now it was time to redo the colors and i decided to change them up a bunch because the original palette didnt really look too nice and was kinda rushed and i knew i could do better. Now I dont have screenshots of my coloring process because I was in the zone and just kept working on it without more breaks until i ended up with the fully rendered version so uh yeah My muse just came out of nowhere, tackled me and then shook me like a rabid dog with a dog toy Can't say I will draw another piece as detailed as this one any time soon or even when i will make another drawing in general as im just feeling out when and what i want to draw or if i want to draw at all Anyway sorry for the long post Basically I wanted to make bird man a gift and my brain just took of running with the idea. Didn't make bird man anything for his birthday because i was very out of it back then so i guess thats why my brain went so hard on it haha I hope you guys enjoy!

who are your biggest artistic influences my furry friend? we had art classes together for years but i still feel like i don’t know 😭
😭😭😭 honestly thats probably cus a lot of my artistic influences are specifically internet artists that ive been following for several years and not things i couldve brought up in art class. you know that lame ass mr smith wouldve hated me if i said 'yeah i draw like this cus of some bts fanart girlie on twitter'. thankfully i have the Archivist's Temperament and save like literally everything thats had an effect on my style... so below is a journey thru my artistic influences (and various insp folders on my computer) as far as i can remember
of course the most basal Dorian Influence is disney movies. you are my brother in arms in the lion king fandom so you know this. whenever i am feeling extremely artistically bankrupt i try to revitalize myself by rewatching the lion king, atlantis, and treasure planet. and also the prince of egypt but thats dreamworks LOL
in 2016 i found the first "online" artists i distinctly remember wanting to imitate, which were sara kipin and celia lowenthal because i was obsessed with how they used color to block out their illustrations. ive also been following dimetrodone(/dimetrodrawn/deinocheirus) on here since 2016 and love all the shapes and colors in her work
in 2017 i started doing more detailed shading because i saw bts fanart by the artist tyu_naxx on twitter and loved how they did it (below is like THE piece that made me change my whole shit up)
Tumblr media
around then is also when i started trending towards using limited palettes and that was mostly inspired by various national parks promo artworks that would only have like 5 colors in them. wish i remembered who made these but heres ancient scans of some postcards i got at sequoia national park that changed me
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in early 2019 i started wanting my style to be more cartoony so i would constantly peruse the backlogs of kiwi, officialspec, skunkes and mimiadraws to get whatever inspiration i could from them
in late 2019 i completely pivoted for some reason and started doing lineless rendered semirealistic stuff instead. i think that was mostly cus i hated doing lineart. one of my biggest inspirations in that era was atissi
in 2020 i remember i went crazy stupid on using glow effects and chromatic aberration on stuff and i genuinely think all of it can be traced to this ONE piece of bts fanart by lordizxy on twitter like i was fully obsessed (putting it below also in case it gets deleted somehow)
Tumblr media
mid 2021 was when i got tired of semirealism and thought it was too amorphous and restricting so i went back to cartoony shit. i was still looking at the artists i listed for early 2019 but i also added artists like iplidl, catmunches, and chunkysoup22 to the mix
2022 was an inspirationless nightmare i have no clue what i was doing for that entire year. the artblock was BAD. i mostly just looked at art from all the artists i mentioned before while artistically wandering in circles. a lot of this was me trying and failing to figure out whether i wanted to do more dynamic yet less rendered art or... the opposite of that
thankfully in 2023 i finally FIGURED THAT SHIT OUT. i would say the current dorian art era started with this silly drawing of graydon and riley hivemind as a dogboy and a catboy ⬇️
Tumblr media
you can kinda see the influences of all the cartoonists i listed above but a lot of the way i draw now is just. me trying to not make myself hate doing art. ive always hated redoing a line 30000000 times for clean lineart so now its sketchy. rendering my art was making my drawings feel super stiff so now thats all messy too. etc etc
i think Right Now the artists i go to for inspiration the most are still kiwi and skunkes, but i also found the artist robottoast recently who makes RIDICULOUSLY good furry art, its so full of life and personality and i definitely need to commission them someday. the most recent singular piece thats changed my whole shit up is this scott pilgrim fanart by benadieshekiel (also below) because i really liked how the clothes were fully rendered while the skin and hair are less detailed with clear lineart. so sometimes i do that too
Tumblr media
ok i think that is as full of a chronicle of Dorian Influences that i can give you rn. i was not lying when i said i wanted to yap. hope you enjoy <3

Hey, I adore your artstyle mate, I loveeee all the vivid colors and the fact that most of it lacks lines?? You doing the hard stuff, but it paying off 💜
can I ask, as I’d like to get into comic making, how long does it take you to finish a a single panel?
Hi!! thank you very much!! drawing lineart is incredibly frustrating to me so im very glad i was able to make the jump to mostly lineless artwork, tho im very much still at the beginning to learn how to do it xD
to answer your question, i .. cant say really, it depends on what is on the panel, and i always jump around when working on a page, i draw half of the very last panel, then jump to another, maybe i see something i want to change right away and work on the third besides i ... dont know anything about panel composition, i think in movies so i play it and try to pause it on a frame that could work as a panel, whichs is probably why it goes alot slower than normal comics, idk how much to skip gndfjknvgfdjk
im by no means an expert in making comics, you kinda have to find your own way of what works for you, i have done many in the past but all failed, i gave up before getting even one chapter done many times
general advice i can give you is, most importantly, dont wait, i know its daunting to start, but you have to start, even if you dont think you are good enough, you will always change and improve anyway, better start now or you might do it never, and remember, when a page is done its done, i know how tempting it is to go back and redo it, but if you start with that it will only lead to an endless cycle of remaking it over and over
a cause that made me abandon my old projects, was partly lack of support/recognition, but mostly that i was forcing myself to things that werent fun, like one i made in black and white bc i thought you had to do it bc color takes too long, but i live for colors, so it drained the fun out of it immediately
the only "rules" i have set for myself is that its understandable, the flow of the action doesnt flip around too much, speech bubbles are aligned in a way that guides you (of course im not perfect at that either and always learn); i dont jump between pages, i jump between working on panels, but i dont start another page before the previous is at least acceptable, otherwise id get ahead of myself and get impatient, just wanting to skip ahead and neglect older pages; and that i only work on a panel/page as long as it has acceptable quality and is fun to draw, when i notice im getting bored or frustrated i finish it quickly as best as i can and move on, otherwise it might drag the entire project down, which is why each panel or page in 'Destiny' varies alot in quality
i can barely look at the first pages .. or even at the last one i made for that matter, but its also fascinating, how much my art changes within even one update which takes me about a month for 4 pages, since i have set my 'fun' rules at least, it used to take much longer (i wish i was faster, and i could be, but i have a job, and have to look out for my health, both physically and mentally, so i take whatever time i need and draw however much i feel like drawing, no rushing)
my progress so far is that i write a rough script, what happens, what dialog, where it ends, and so on, it doesnt have to sound good, god knows mine are shitty xD but its a good guideline, even if rough! then i make a rough draft, basic panel layout, dialog (it always changes fro mthe script, again its more liek a guideline than a rule ;) ) then i start with actually drawing the first page, my art and way of .. art and writing changes incredibly fast (idk if its for the better lol) so .. by that point i redraw the rough draft version of the page if i see how it works better, rewrite dialog too, and even cut stuff from the rough draft
im not done with the first chapter (im slow af lol), but wrote the script for the second one when my hand was injured and i couldnt draw for a month, once im done with this chapter i will draw the rough draft for ch2, then write the script for ch3 then go and draw ch2 fully, at least thats the plan the more time passes the more i know what the next chapters are gonna be, tho i know the important points long before; right now i have the entirety of the first arc sepeareted into chapters, and the end of it all too, but between there its still a lil blurry and im adjusting everytime i think of soemthing better
anyway, sorry for that long ass ramble, its late and i thoguht about this ask bc im trying to get my want to draw back (not feeling well rn nkfdnkd) so i randomly decided to answer it .. probably in the most unhelpful way possible, alot of stuff noone aksed for lol
anyway, sorry, and goodnight uwu

7,8, or 12 for the artist asks?
OML I totally missed this, sorry! _| ̄|○
For 7, I prefer coloring and shading. Then after that is sketching. Lineart is probably the least fun part for me.
Here’s 12, a 15 second Eugene Drawtectives

And then 8. Here’s some old Omori fanart. Kinda want to redo them both.

Ok, I've sent a version of this question to @mareenavee for writerly stuff, but figured I'd adapt it to the arting process and then come pester youuuuuu. Though feel free to answer it in writing mode too, just pick whichever you want to ramble about more :> 1. What are the (art and/or) techniques you're most comfortable with? What comes easily and naturally and just flows (and how come?) 2. What's the stuff that requires lots and lots of redos and revisions? What challenges you as an artist? 3. What do you want to try your hand at, but haven't yet?
Yes, art process asks! We're doing that now!
What are the (art and/or) techniques you're most comfortable with? What comes easily and naturally and just flows (and how come?)
My comfort zone is portraits. Drawing people is easy (relatively speaking), and as much as I complain about it, I do enjoy and have become semi ok at faces and hands in general. I don't know if anything flows (I have poor hand-eye-coordination so it's a bit of an effort on my behalf to do anything precise but I'm clearly a masochist and choose to do precise work) sketches take like 3 hours and lineart takes 1-2 so yeah...slow. I think painting flows best if I'm listening to music, easier to zone out/hyper-focus enough to resist distraction. Skin and hair are the most relaxing to paint (even if I complain about it, I just kinda complain).
Digital is something I fell into because I had Photoshop loaded onto the home computer (ye old 2008 lounge room computer box) and traditional mediums were giving me eczema and/or making me dizzy and triggering headaches so I switched around age 15 and haven't really used many traditional mediums since... No wait, graphite, I'll use that but it's been a time. I am most comfortable with digital. Plus I hate the feeling of stuff on my hands, sensory issues apparently.
My painting technique is kinda similar to both oils and chalk pastels (pastels being my mum's medium, so I picked up a lot from that) like a weird hybrid between the two applied digitally I kinda just pulled from a lot of things and found what came easiest for my process.
What's the stuff that requires lots and lots of redos and revisions? What challenges you as an artist?
Oh boi, this is where I get called weird... (for personal work) I don't do working drawings or thumbnails or studies, I don't do warm-ups and I don't revise sketches. I have a crystal clear image that appears in my head of exactly how I want the finished piece to look, sometimes it's informed by a reference sometimes I have to make one that fits. I know exactly what I need to do to get it to look like that image. That includes lighting and colour that I add at the end, I paint cold and turn the heat up at the end. It's easier on my eyes. I do revisions when I'm doing commissions and professional art, it's a collaborative project and I'm creating someone's vision for them (which I also enjoy). I'll make edits within reason, there's a cut-off point that no one has ever reached but it's 3. I can create to a brief pretty well after 12 years of client work.
Challenges would be backgrounds and scenes, I'm working on those so that they are no longer challenges.
What do you want to try your hand at, but haven't yet?
I want to make something out of clay, a little Horus replica broach.
Tumblr media
Like this Ptolemaic Falcon Faience Applique but with more Horus symbology. One day!

7. show us a WIP
Tumblr media
here's this suzuka that I don't know if I'll finish, bc it was meant to be lineart (or at least sketch cleanup) practice. and I just don't have the energy for that ever. I like it though!
9. show us a finished piece right alongside the original sketch
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is from like. a year ago, because I don't usually keep sketches. anyway enjoy this rare piece of alek original art lmao (I kinda want to redo this one now that I look at it 😭)
14. digital or traditional
generally I get more done digitally. cuz it's easier for me. but I've been telling myself for like a year that I need to do another charcoal portrait so I will get that done eventually I promise
15. if digital, what program do you use
krita :) which I love except WHY IS THE ERASER NOT A SEPARATE TOOL. but anyway,
20. a piece from this year that you're really proud of
this was the hardest one to answer 😭 I'm not like. super proud of anything I did this year? but if I HAVE to answer then I guess I will give these two bc they're the only things I actually coloured. which is a big thing for me lmao

It's time.
So, I have decided to formally retire from FireAlpaca and will not be revisiting any of my old works made on that app (just because of personal preference). SO, I've decided to share some of my favorite WIPs that I had hoped to finish once upon a time lol.
I'm gonna be tagging all the characters that show up btw, so sorry if this comes up as you're peacefully scrolling your fandom tags hehe.
Please check the tags for the characters/fandoms and decide if you wanna open this post.
So yeah, have a couple of old sketches from 2-5 years ago :D
[Uncolored blood in one of them jsyk]
This one felt appropriate to put first lol I was really liking the way it was turning out... and then I lost motivation lol. Think this is from 2 years ago-ish.
Tumblr media
Here's another of my OC. I was going to make a super cool battle illustration with super cool effects and super cool lighting and I gave up almost instantly lol. SHE HAS NO WRISTS!!
Tumblr media
This is one I made for Drawfest 2, like, 2 years ago now, I think. I thought it was coming along kinda nice except I couldn't get the perspective to look right so my character ended up looking huge lmao.
Tumblr media
Here's ANOTHER of my OC. This one is really old lol. I've redesigned her now and I don't use this shading style anymore, so I retired this profile picture really early on.
Tumblr media
Ok, last one of this OC. This was going to be one of many sprites that I was making to use in videos and stuff, but I, once again, lost my motivation hehe. Looks REALLY bad tho so idc.
Tumblr media
Now for some fandom junk!
.
.
Pico jumpscare I got really into Pico's school way back when and never saw any fanart for his death screen. So I wanted to try my hand at it. Got through the lineart before I decided I didn't like it and was not skilled enough to salvage it so I gave up. Might redraw this in the future though!
Tumblr media
Haha mind the huge empty space on this one.
This was going to be a picture of Gregory and Freddy from FNaF Security Breach (made this around the time the game came out), but I quickly realized I couldn't draw animatronics and quit lol. You can kinda see the stripe on Gregory's shirt, but my sketching abilities back then were awful so it's a little hard.
Tumblr media
ASJKFHSABFHJBF I ALMOST FORGOT I WAS DRAWING HIMMM!! This bean is a character from To Your Eternity, an anime I randomly found on Netflix once and fell in love with (I quit at the weird scene in the prison tho, remind me to finish it). HE WAS SO CUTE I JUST HAD TO DRAW HIM <3 Also this isn't the ball, this is the boy. I just didn't get to his eyes.
Tumblr media
MULTIFANDOM IDEAAAAA
So me and my sister were talking a few years ago, and I think one of us misspoke and said "Coffee shot" instead of "Coffee shop," so this AU was born.
It's a coffee shop called the Coffee Shot staffed by characters that love guns and have guns and shoot guns and I love them. The shop is frequented by characters from other franchises (in this case Danganronpa), and it's got the best coffee and the best theming you've ever seen >:)
Characters from left to right: Pico (FNF), Kiyotaka Ishimaru (DR1), Mondo Owada (DR1), Lance (EBF5)
Tumblr media
Here's another MultiFandom picture :D
This one was based on Pinterest lol. I have boards for both of these franchises, but they kept wanting to save these two characters to each other's boards lol. SO I wanted to make a style swap with them! Didn't end up finishing it, though, but I do want to come back to it!
Characters: Kiyotaka Ishimaru (Danganronpa), Ranma Saotome (Ranma 1/2)
Tumblr media
Aaaaand then just take some Danganronpa stuff.
This first one is actually the second piece of fanart I ever did for this game, but I quit really quick because I SCREWED UP TAKA'S HAIR AND DIDN'T WANNA REDO IT BECAUSE EVERY TIME I TRIED IT LOOKED FUNKY SO NOW HE'S JUST FUZZY. AND THE BACKGROUND EWWW I FORGOT IT LOOKED LIKE THIS
Tumblr media
And then this one is of the same two characters but based on a fanfic I read once. It was a Beauty and the Beast one. It was really fun to read. I liked it. It's on Wattpad if you're interested. I quit on this picture really quick tho. Made the sketch on Photoshop 2 years ago, transferred the sketch to FireAlpaca, then realized the sketch sucked and didn't bother trying again.
Tumblr media
.
.
.
SO
There's all my sketches. The ones that I'm willing to share, that is.
Let this be a lesson that not all of your pictures are going to go the way you want to. Your sketches are going to be messy, your lineart isn't going to match up, your colors are going to look funky, and your shading is going to want to make you rip out your hair sometimes.
I think what's important is to make sure that all that stuff doesn't discourage you.
If you give up all together, you'll never know what you'd've been able to produce if you hadn't.
If a picture isn't working for you, find out why. Then quit that picture, practice, and come back. You'll be able to compare yourself to your own art instead of other people's, which will give you a clearer sense of how far you've come.
.
SORRY DIDN'T MEAN TO GO ON A RANT THERE
I think I'll shoot to redraw some of these next year. I definitely want to come back to that Pico one, the style swap one, the Coffee Shot, and the Christmas one.
Don't really have time for that now, but that's now on my New Year's Resolution list lol.
If you're reading this, thanks for looking at my old crappy art. It feels nice to share <3

Fear not, for the Hooded Robin has arrived!
This is the first time I'm posting an art piece concurrently on Twitter and tumblr. I'm showing characters here largely out of order, but since the movie is coming out soon, I thought it'd be best to show this one here now. As you can see, it's the Hooded Robin from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show! This is the first non-game Mario character I added - meaning anything from the TV shows, movies, and comics is now on the table. I'm excited to work on other characters like this, as Hooded Robin was really fun to adopt in my artstyle.
I'll go ahead and talk some about the art piece. Not exactly a breakdown like what I've been doing, but basically the long and arduous design process. While designing him was fun, sketching him was absolutely not. I started sketching him at about 11:30 PM last night, and was determined to finish him by the time I went to bed. I stayed up until 2:00 in the morning trying to get him right, coming up with and discarding ideas for the pose and how his body should look.

Just look at how many eraser marks are here. Jeez this took so long. At one point I wanted to essentially copy the Splatoon 3 pose, the one with the Inkling charging up the bow weapon. That fell through because I couldn't find a way to draw his body without it looking lazy, so I scrapped that and tried finding a more standard-looking pose. There were like three versions of the pose I eventually went with, the first I discarded because he was just standing and that looked kinda weird and stilted, and the second I had to completely redo the lower body because his legs originally had reversed positions, and I thought it'd look more natural if they swapped.
Thankfully, I soon got a pose I was satisfied with, and finished him digitally this morning. Tracing over sketches to do the lineart is normally long and tedious for me, but after what I had to go through to get the sketch done it was painless. If you wanted to see how dedicated I am to my art, there you go.
anyway Super Show is a fun time and I wanted to add a character from it. Love how he came out! And I'm 99% sure this is the first fanart of Hooded Robin ever made. Will gladly take that prestegeious title.

Ey art question
How do ya pump out sketches and drawings so fast? I see alotta mfb fanartists do doodles and drawings so fast. I mean im saying this as a slow arse fanartist myself so, ig it just looks so fast to me.
Honestly this is really interesting to me because it depends. As of late, I’ve definitely been able to draw a lot faster but there’s definitely stuff that I’ve taken a lot of time on. My fully finished and cleaned pieces can take me between 3-9 hours (there was even one that took me 12 hours lmao). Those ones I usually spend my whole afternoon-evening doing and the reason I’m able to finish some of those in 1 sitting is just because I’m really excited to finish it and just want to see it through. For a lot of my stuff that I put out in shorter time spans, it’s honestly just that I cut a lot of corners. Usually when I post several times a day, it’s pieces that I don’t spend much time on that I’m not really trying to make big finished things. Lots of posts like those, especially when it’s like, mini comics and things, are very simple and messy and I don’t spend a lot of time trying to refine them because I just wanna get the idea out more than making it a clean piece. I think another big one is that I don’t do a lot of lineart lately; I just go straight from sketch to color. When I want to make a finished piece but not do the lineart, I’ll put in a bit of effort to not make it too messy and clean it up a bit, but that’s really it. Lineart takes a lot of time and I’ve definitely noticed that in my pieces, so I just opt to not do it to save time (I also just don’t really like doing lineart all that much lmao). And of course, a big aspect of it is just practice. I like looking at my times on procreate and I’ve definitely noticed that more of my older art took me longer than some of my recent stuff, and I really just chalk that up to practicing and getting more confident in my art to be able to do it quicker. When I have a clear image of what I want to do, I’m able to make it quicker than something I’d redo over and over to get right, and sometimes just trying to not focus on getting it perfect is what helps save time.
Sorry this was kinda long lol. This is actually something I’ve thought about a lot and I like talking about it
