👥 Estinien with either Alta or Kain 👀
muse hcs / accepting! / @dragonlancer
i've made a few posts already about kain being a sulky little shitlord because he thinks the Azure Dragoon title was his birthright, and that the end of the war kind of took his entire life's purpose and a decade of training from him that he now thinks is useless (it isn't but he's 19 and depressed), so. i'm not going to reinvent the wheel there. akdngkngk
however, after the war and the real shift in Ishgard began, when Aymeric approached him with the truth of his family's legacy, Kain realizes he really can't just... detest the older dragoon any further.
One of them had real experience with befriending dragons, and it wasn't Kain. (Infuriatingly, the Warrior of Light seemed to have more experience than he did, not even being Ishgardian. But they already had too much on their plate, and scarcely knew of the soldier's existence. Estinien, he hoped, would at least remember the boy from how fervently he stood in his shadow as a young recruit.)
In the few - oh so few - visits back to Ishgard that Estinien allows himself, Kain is not far behind. After enlisting Aymeric's help, the man is able to meet with the dragoon just once, catching him before he flees the city-state once more.
If he wanted to know about raising and befriending dragons, the man said, he was better suited to asking them themselves.
During Stormblood and Shadowbringers, Kain does just that. And, when next Estinien next sees Kain, the dragoon has a dragonling on his pauldron... much like Orn Khai.
Haurchefant had spun tales of the Warrior of Light to both of his best friends: their adventures, their strength, their tenacity. He had waxed poetic about their wiles and their wit until Aymeric was coughing back embarrassed laughter, almost certain that the knight had simply found another traveler to warm his bed.
He hadn't mentioned that the woman was half his size. He hadn't mentioned that she was primarily a healer - that had, somehow, managed to fell gods and primals regardless.
And he hadn't even hinted that she bore the likeness of dragons. While Estinien didn't speak much during the meetings in the Falling Snows, his silence was sharp and distrusting. Without having exchanged more than an introduction, the Warrior of Light and the Azure Dragoon were already off to a rocky start.
I imagine it took a long while for the two of them to even attempt to get along. Estinien is used to working on his own, and Alta is forever chased by the fear of not being able to heal or help those she needs to. I don't think he would be fond at all of her quiet stubbornness, or how unbothered she seems to be by his attitude. She doesn't even give him the pleasure of truly arguing the few times they do clash.
(And then the knight dies, and I think their similarities would come to the forefront. They are both trying to make up for what they couldn't change, crippled by the need to be better and finding out it truly doesn't matter anyway. She had cast spell after spell into his corpse, his hair fanning out on her thighs like a halo made of steel: he had picked through the rubble of a razed village, fingers bruised and blistered from the dragonfire heat, desperate for a chance that his brother would be there.
They were not so different.)

Thinking about the tragedy that is Ciel and Sebastian’s relationship.
They have a twisted power dynamic. Sebastian’s stronger and is inevitably going to eat Ciels soul. Ciel has the power of the contract and is going to die in the end.
Sebastian is raising someone who refuses to be a child, raising him like cattle for the cultivation. Ciel know this, knows it well but he acts regardless, doesn’t let it deter him.
We, the readers, can tell that they have begun caring for each other. Against their better judgment, they care now. They worry when they get hurt, when things go wrong. But in the end, none of that’s going to matter.
Ciel is going to die at Sebastian’s hands. That’s as clear as day, a fact of life now. They both know.
Will Sebastian feel regret or will it just be another meal. Is Ciel going to be afraid or will it just be another night for him. What will they feel when the end is near?
A Tragedy is an story that is based on human suffering that culminates in catharsis.
Theyre going to be a tragedy.

do you think about how javi probably hated himself ( and still does hate himself to some extent ) for not being there with all his friends when everyone but kate died like, he wasn't in there in all that with them. he wonders if him being there could've changed something, could've had a different outcome ( even though he knows you can't change the mind of a damn tornado and they all did everything they could in that moment ).
all javi could do was watch everything in horror from a distance. feel the dread of not knowing what was happening to all his friends but know that something bad was happening, a gut feeling that everything was going so horribly wrong and being confronted with the fact that everything absolutely had gone so horribly wrong.
do you just think -

ok here's the movies low-down:
Batman VS TMNT was very good. short. enjoyable. ninjas. Ra's. furries. etc. a lot of the other animated Batman flicks take heavy inspo from 2010s comics so of course they are terrible but this one was a nice departure.
the Tim Burton movies are very good and fun Tim Burton movies but they are weird/mildly frustrating Batman movies. Michael Keaton is great at making Bruce weird. turtleneck. the music. the art. Michelle Pfeiffer. (these are the pros) Bruce kills. the Joker is in it lots. kind of weird but not always good weird ? Tim Burton's blonde love interest fetish. (these are the cons)
Batman Begins ? dated. kind of a slog. but overall I liked it.
The Dark Knight + the third one of that trilogy... boring. didnt care. got rid of homoerotic bruharvey subtext. uninspired. overrated. etc. didnt even ever watch TDKR because I was so bored and didnt caresies.
I havent ever watch the Schumacher ones.. . they look camp but kind of boring. like it's a messy kind of camp. not the cunty kind of camp I've come to expect from Batman.
obsessed with this in depth run down....!! thank you!!! i would probably start with tmnt and animated because i love my silly goofy good times and i think batman 2022 will be my 'ill watch this in october maybe' movie (<- guy who hasnt sat down through a movie in over a year) and i think the only burton movie ive ever seen was the remake of charlie and the chocolate factory so i dont have much to draw on from there!
i know nothing about the plots of any of the others but i do think george clooney from the schumacher ones is so hot... i can deal with messy camp because i think that can be so fun if its a result of earnestness but if its from being boring and just poorly made out of lack of caring then all energy gets zapped out of it :(( and michael keaton is hot for forever with his cunty turtleneck but i only know him from white noise... the idea of a bruce that kills is. bad. and concerns me but also it has michelle pfeiffer which cancels out a lot of complaints i could have.... decisions decisions...
