One thing about Andor I cannot get over is that we see the Empire being afraid.

We see Dedra getting dragged around the streets of Ferrix by a hoard of rebels, and when Syril rescues her, she breaks down, breathing heavily and shaking for 2 minutes. The camera doesn't cut.

We see Syril kneel on the floor with a gun to the back of his head, unable to move or do anything. He waits like a coward and he's only alive because Cassian decided not to kill him. We see him cry, we see his mother slap him, we see him make an ass of himself in front of almost every character he interacts with.

We're used to seeing the Empire as this evil force of faceless soldiers, as the undefined and vague antagonists our heroes must fight against. This changed with Anakin, we now had the backstory of the evilest guy of all the galaxy, but that's just one person. Who are the stormtroopers? Why are they fighting? They have no visible skin, no names, no history.

Dedra and Syril do. They bleed, they cry, they feel fear.

Palpatine is not here, but his drones are, and they are not wearing helmets (they're wearing ugly hats), we can see their eyes now. The Imperialist colonizers, the fascist military regime, they have faces.

You cannot win against the concept of "Evil". You cannot win against endless batallions of white-armored drones that have no past and no future. But in his last moments, Anakin was just a man, exhausted, breathing hard on the floor of his fortress and prison with his soft tender head exposed, looking at his son. And that's the face of the Empire. They are people. And they are as scared as you are.

I couldn't say it better than Nemik, "oppression is the mask of fear", and in Andor, the fear gets unmasked.

Ice king is a really good character because they intoduce him and you're like "haha what a freak what's wrong with him" and then the show goes "oh! You want to know? Let me show you :)" and you end up just sitting there like

matt ruling that the technical damage from the explosion was irrelevant due to the power and weight of fcg’s sacrifice is what really got me. even if sam rolled the max possible number on the dice, it wouldn’t have even brought otohan to below where she was before she took the health potion. mechanically speaking, she should have survived that blast by a LOT of hit points. but this was a player willingly killing their own character, beyond reviving and even potentially beyond resurrection, to give the rest of the party any advantage they could, and he rewarded that with the death of an antagonist that has haunted this campaign from the very beginning. unreal fucking plays by both matt and sam tonight.

"Good" Acting

i have a theory that a lot of people say acting is "good" when they're emotionally moved by it, and a lot of cishet white people have a lifelong habit of not listening or empathising when minoritised people speak, so minority actors get called "bad" even when they display some pretty fucking amazing technical skill

can we talk about how much queer and trans joy was this season? maggie and nina. they/them muriel, saraquel, beelzebub, even GOD. "you're a good lad" "im not actually, either". that one shopkeeper and his non binary spouse, played by a non binary actor. beelzebub and gabriel. shax, nina and maggie all thinking azi and crowley were together. also yes i'm gonna mention: crowley and aziraphale's kiss. it's just, i get that everyone's hurt and so am i but can we please focus on how beautiful this season was to us? we got so much and i'm so happy, despite the ending.
