"Good" Acting
i have a theory that a lot of people say acting is "good" when they're emotionally moved by it, and a lot of cishet white people have a lifelong habit of not listening or empathising when minoritised people speak, so minority actors get called "bad" even when they display some pretty fucking amazing technical skill
#also a lot of female actors don't get recognised despite being fucking GOOD#that's not to say minority actors can't always be bad#of course we can#I'm just saying#sometimes#for SOME shows in particular#ahem ahem#some actors might get very heavily criticised for reasons that have very little to do with their actual technical skill#and more to do with the politics of those criticising them#also I'm not talking about me here#before anyone says that#I'm talking about some actors I know who have recently been criticised in my opinion quite unfairly#despite doing something very difficult#like oooohhh i dunno#playing two roles in the same show?#and doing it very well#displaying some amazing technical mastery of body and voice technique#but hey what do I know#oh wait I went to drama school and I'm a professional actor lol I DO know#I'm just a woman so I have to couch my expertise in cutesy self-deprecation lest people think I'm a bitch

Killing myself a thousand times over. Do I want the setting of Good Intentions to be past based (fantasy greece meets the industrial revolution) or futuristic (fantasy greece meets itself after a stupidly ambiguous amount of years)
#notnow#good intentions#see the thing is. im coming to realize that good intentions has a lot to do with energy/creating forms of energy#which situates its best two setting options either at the industrial revolution (for self explanatory reasons) or in a far off future (wher#maybe all established energy forms are getting fucked and new alternatives need to be found)#i do sort of want like. an older fantasy feel for the work hence my leaning towards industrial revolution. also bc thatd set the sequel in#the early 20th century which would just delight me overall#whereas with a timeskip like that in an already futuristic setting its like. okay. how much further can i take it / how can i meaningfully#actually show the impacts the findings of the first book have had on society at large#also some of the jobs and overall vibe of good intentions calls back to an older time ie niovi's mom singing moirologia#but at the same time. i shant lie. trying to correlate the overall vibe of the industrial revolution on what is essentially greece#(who actively did not have an industrial revolution on that scale due to the 600~ years of ottoman everything)#is proving a little hard. as is serrating what would be hashtag greek in that period from what would be turkish when today obviously its al#so intertwined. but in fantasy greece that occupation simply didnt happen which is lending itself a bit weird to translating traditions#and such. at least in a futuristic setting a lot of this history would be a given and i could move ahead from ot#*it even.#and maybe tie the history into a perfect loop of like.. yk when things go so far into the future they begin to revert into the past etc#if i did future though fantasy greece would have to take on a bit more of a 1:1 role in its correlation to greece. as opposed to#the industrial revolution where it primarily relies on greek aesthetics but that i can play around in lotr style#. this is essentially becoming a matter of me trying to decide if i should style my book's setting after lotr or the locked tomb i am comin#to realize. right.#at least in the future hess would get to smoke which she deserves. but at the same time nothing about her place in her society would pack#the same punch. unless her corner of the society was more obsessed with nationalistic preservation and thus more old fashioned? but ugh#if i keep my current setting (place divided into four parts) and place it in the future i worry it starts giving divergence#head in my actual stupid fucking hands. i need to lock in#its going to take me a william years to introduce this project again the way we are going#also ignore the typos in this rant my tags refused to cooperate on all fronts

Mattmac's acting in TD will never not be insane to me, bcs its probably the only acting that genuinely fully made me think, yeah he completely escaped into the role. It's not that there's not any other actors out there that I think are amazing, but it's still often hard for me for the most part to separate the actor and their roles, especially if I've seen a lot of their work. Meanwhile, even just looking at a still of Rust, it's so hard for me to perceive, oh wait that's not a real guy?? Rust isn't out there???
#if this makes sense lmao#idk its so odd bcs ive watched interstellar so many times more times and it literally came out the same year#yet it doesnt affect my perception at all as it often does w most other actors i like when i watch other works of theirs#aaghhhhh like im not saying mattmac is the BEST actor of all time and that everyone else is inferior#theres a lot of roles i can think of that were amazing and that i fully bought into#rather theres no other character i can think of where i genuinely get baffled when i remember theyre not real#if that makes sense?? like ill usually still look at a character and their actor is in the back of my mind#like saying wow their acting is so good in this!!#meanwhile w td im like ...wow rust is such a cool guy hes so fascinating. wait wdym mattmac played him#i feel deranged saying this cause idk if im getting my point sdkjhfs#ig part of it is the fact that td covers a good portion of his life so you see a lot of aspects of his character#but he just feels so REAL to me#as i said even looking at screencaps i cant think of him as mattmac. he IS rust. thats some guy!!!! that exists!!!#id say the acting in td is generally really amazing BUT#i realized since i last watched it some actor in it was in a comedy show i watched which completely influenced my perception of that actor#so when i saw his face w that new context i couldnt buy his character at all anymore bcs he was just that dude from the other show#meanwhile ive watched a lot of mattmacs stuff before and after yet ive never though of rust when seeing him in another role or vice versa#AAAHHHHHH MAN. sorry i just really love that show and i think rust will forever be some actual person to me. hes out there i swear#idk the picture thing is especially so odd bcs as i said interstellar is from the same year and he has a pretty similar look#yet im still like. no those are clearly two different people. and i think of mattmac when i watch interstellar but not td so ?????#thought let me be clear his acting in interstellar is also amazing and real to me.#just not in the way where he becomes a real indistinguishable person to me#anyways. cough cough. i have a problem.#catie.rambling.txt#true detective

being a huge fan of tlou but also like. thinking that certain stories are built for certain mediums. like the entire theme of tlou2 is grounded and fresh because it’s a railroad/story video game that still affords you mechanical choices in how you navigate the world. i just don’t have a lot of confidence that presenting that story in a tv show with the minimal adjustments that they did in s1 will be fulfilling or compelling in any comparable way. because with tlou1 some of the like. beauty of that story was simply that it was such an emotive story contained in the medium of video games. and some of that was retained just by hitting similar or expanded emotional beats in the show, like the episodes that expanded on the life of the characters and the realities of that world. but truly so much of tlou2 emotional depth and ‘why does this story matter’ rests in the fact that’s it’s your hands on the controller, continually choosing to go forward in the story and have hope that it will work out in your-as-ellie-or-abby-or-somehow-booth’s favour. and you simply cannot get that in a non-interactive medium like television. like i do think tlou2 is a good story but it’s a good story because of the investment required by the player to keep pressing buttons and keep returning and to feel the adrenaline like responses of high intensity moments and be jarringly shifted into backstories that only increase the frustration. in general i’ve been thinking a lot about cross-medium adaptation and on the one hand i am glad that season 1 makes the story of the last of us more accessible to people who wouldn’t pick up a video game but it’s also like. maybe instead we can destigmatize video games as this inaccessible and dangerous medium a bit more instead of just . implicitly agreeing . like no maybe your mom won’t pick up a video game controller and play the last of us . but maybe you can play the game in the living room. sometimes the mediums that stories are told in aren’t just important but are actually foundational parts of how the information of a story is conveyed and that’s not only okay but is fucking fantastic. we should be happy actually that there are so many ways to collect a bunch of themes and ideas and put them together and hold them out to someone else and say “won’t you consider this with me. won’t you feel these emotions and care about these characters with me.”
#i’ve been thinking about this both for academic and personal reasons#where like. my thesis literally includes discussion of tlou2 and it’s profundity because of the players position as in control but without#real decision making power in the story#and it’s like. you’re the person animating these two ptsd ridden women who subject themselves to be puppets to their#own grief . and there’s something particularly resonant about the fact that you can’t change the Story. you can only play it.#and like . i’ve talked with my mom a lot about the last of us#since i played it the first time and it really just rocked my shit. and i remember walking out my bedroom after i’d finished tlou2#feeling that odd mixture of empty and completely fulfilled by a good story with tears in my eyes#and a few years later when i visited home and had happened to bring my ps4 along with me and i was having a rough time#my mom asked if i’d want to show her tlou. because she knew i loved it and because i’ve told her it has tropes she’d enjoy#but the only games she’ll ever play are point and click because she’s stubborn and some physicality stuff#but like i remember sitting on the couch just. playing this game and it wasn’t the exact same as her playing it herself . but sometimes her#commentary was like it was.#i just. idk man. tlou lover wants to be hyped but seeing the exact same visuals from the game just in tv show format is like#. what’s the point. why are you distilling the themes by removing the active (non)agency of the player and#replacing it with the passive role of ‘watcher’ in a story so emphatically about having an active role in the action#anyway#tagging this#tlou#for blog organization but this isn’t discourse or whatever just me thinkin my thoughts on my blog

i don't want people working in television to be overworked but with some streaming shows i'm like what the fuck actually takes so long between seasons
#i can actually understand to an extent with something like stranger things#and i know it has been going too long for only 5 seasons but at the same time#not that different from other shows and also when people say they're too old now i'm like they're 20-ish playing high schoolers?#meanwhile on bridgerton the actors who play eloise and penelope are in their 30s lmao#and i might not have thought they were older than their late 20s#but now i can't unsee it like they are great in their roles but do not look remotely like teenagers#but yeah like bridgerton as an example two years between seasons? why?

Honestly when I say I'm not a movie watcher I feel like most ppl just don't really Get It. Or maybe instead, I just don't get how other people *are* more movie watchers than me.
Like I watch movies socially, when someone I'm hanging out with wants to watch smth, bc then I can chat about it with them & even make commentary if we're watching outside of theaters. Keeps it entertaining. But on my own??? Sitting still for 1-2 hours straight?? Focusing on one thing for that long??? Nevermind the fact that I can easily focus on smth like reading or video games for that long or longer - video games are significantly more interactive & when im reading I often take little breaks to fuck around on my phone Anyways. And sure, I've had times watching a show or whatever where I watch a full 12 or so episodes in a row, aka longer than a movie, but STILL... it's still more bite sized, easier for my brain to digest before moving on to the next one. Watching a movie alone is like hell to my adhd brain.
So im like yeah, a lot of people like watching movies more than I do. I can understand that. But then there are people who are like "how can people not have watched this / have watched so few of these? Do they just not watch movies?!" And uh I mean kinda yeah, in my case. Not everyone likes watching movies?? From my perspective, I don't understand how you can enjoy sitting down and consuming all of One Story in 1-2 hour periods of time (excluding sequels and such, tho those still aren't the same as episodic things). But you don't see Me going around being like "how can so many people have watched these movies?! Do you have nothing else to do with your time?!" Or smth like that bc that would make me sound like an insane person lmao. Do you get what I'm saying
#speculation nation#that thing of movies arent for me outside of social settings (with rare exceptions. usually for anime movies)#but i understand that different people enjoy different things so i dont think it's odd at all if someone enjoys watching a lot of movies#even if i dont personally relate to that.#but there are some movie watchers who are so deep in their assumption that Everyone must love watching movies#and like. no? not really.#part of it is movies being hell for my attention span and another part of it is just that i dont like shorter stories like that#like in general. i dont really read short stories much bc i dont care for working to learn the characters and the world#just for one little blip of time. same with dnd campaigns. i dont care much for one-shots bc it takes so much to get into it#and then it's already over. i much prefer longform campaigns.#i'll read one-shot fanfics Sometimes but also i do prefer longfic. and me reading one-shots is bc i already know the characters at least#i LOVE long books. i LOVE long video games. video games especially bc u can spent 70+ hours or even hundreds of hours#just embracing and living in this world. getting to be Part of the story. i really really like that.#so yeah i'll watch episodic shows. usually anime but sometimes there will be a live action that catches my attention. sometimes.#bc i like having more bite-sized things for watching it and i like being able to get more immersed in it over time#i like growing to know the characters and see them develop and just. Get Them. i love seeing them have the space for that.#but one movie? one measly 1-2 hours? juggling a whole plot too? by the time i feel like i know the characters it's already over#and that's not even getting into the unpredictability of quality and how much i'll enjoy it#u expect me to go out on a limb every fuckin day to see if i'll enjoy the current day's movie or if it'll just feel like a waste of time?#no thanks. im gonna go watch 500+ episodes of naruto over months of chilling. or 100+ episodes of critical role#long things. things i know i like. things i can just put on while im relaxing. takes all the guessing and uncertainty out of it.#i barely like to watch 12 episode animes anymore man i just dont like putting in the effort to get to know new characters over & over again#there r a variety of reasons why i park my butt down in one or two fandoms and just Stay There for years#and my reluctance to part with characters i know and love and enjoy playing with is a major part of it.#i'll put those guys (gender neutral) into situations over and over again rather than spend my energy getting into new shit Any day.#and there is my mini-rant on how little i care for movies and short stories. 🫡 simply my preferences

I think a lot of complaints about the lengths of TV show seasons are getting it backwards. Talky character-driven episodes where nothing happens aren't a benefit of longer seasons: they're the reason the 26-episode season was ever viable in the first place.
Episodes where everything happens on the same three previously constructed sets, all of the actors with major speaking roles are series regulars (except for the token alien of the week, who's played by the same recurring bit performer who's played five other roles this season in five different rubber noses), and there's no on-location shooting, choreographed fight scenes, or lengthy special effects sequences are very budget friendly, so you can have rather a lot of them.
Basically, you can have an eight-episode season where every single episode is a big hairy spectacle, or you can have a twenty-six episode-season where the premier, the finale, and a random two-parter somewhere in the middle are the only times a bunch of stuff blows up, and the rest of the time it's a sedate investigative-procedural-slash-office-comedy that happens to be set in space. You've gotta pick one!

Socialite!BatSis!Reader x Yandere!Bat Family

Part Two
☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️
A/N: Hi! I don't know where the fuck this came from. But, it has plagued me for months. Inspired by Labour and the Fruits by Paris Palmoa, Please Don't Cry for Your Daughters Eve by Lydia the Bard, and Curses by the Crane Wives. This my attempt at being dark, so either this fucks you up or I fucked up. Apologies for both.
Warnings: Fem!Reader, Implied assault, neglect, yandere themes at the end
☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️
You got the Wayne looks, the Wayne charm, the Wayne name, but you’re fragile. Bruce would tell you. Damian would tell you. (Not so kindly.) Everyone in the manor would tell you.
But, charm and good looks still have their uses. And, everyone in the family despises all the galas they need to attend.
So, when Bruce offers to take you to one, you up the charm, you dress your best. You use your finest manners and all the proper ways your Momma raised you to your advantage. And, you flourish.
You can tell from the slight smile Bruce has on his face on the way home. The hint of pride in his eyes at your job well done.
You can’t help your family or Gotham as a Bat. But, you can help them as a Wayne.
The socialite. That’s your roll. Not a bird, not a bat. A little social butterfly. Drawing the public attention away from the things that go bump in the night.
You like your role. Sure, you're not bounding over the Gotham skyline saving people from muggers and insanely themed villains. But, you're helping your family, and that's what matters to you.
At least, that's how it starts.
It was special to you in the beginning. Going to charity gala's and events with your father, Bruce. No one else in the family enjoys going to these events. It was your own personal father and daughter bonding time, in a way.
But, as you got older the pressure started and the distance between you and the others grew.
You were a music box ballerina. Spinning in place to the same tune over and over again while sitting on a dusty shelf. And, Bruce would wind you up to dance every time he need his social butterfly to charm Gotham's public.
Soon you had a whole team of faceless people picking out your dresses, changing your style, cutting your hair. You couldn't be anything less than a vain air-headed heiress, because that was your role. Brucie needed someone to follow in his footsteps, not Batman.
The dresses got more expensive, the flashes got brighter. The diets got stricter.
And, the distance grew farther.
And, then Bruce stopped going with you to the galas.
You weren't upset the first time. Or, the second time. Or, even the third time.
It was the fourth time that things started to crack.
Sure, Batman was needed. Sure, there was Justice League business. Sure, there was a patrol that ran late. Sure, there was a breakout at Arkham.
But, the fourth time, when you found him and the rest of the family laughing in the cave, it really didn't feel like they were focusing on the good of Gotham while you were struggling to smile sweetly at men twice Bruce's age wanting to take you home.
Still, you powered on. Kept doing your part. You were making the family proud afterall.
Right?
It was the ninth time it happened that you broke.
The nineth time you had gone to a gala alone in an expensive dress you didn't pick, one that showed off way too much skin. One that seemed to tell everyone in that grand ballroom that you were up for the taking. One that just barely hid the bruises from their fingers and palms under the fabric.
You wore that placating smile and that dress all the way home. With a driver you didn't know at the wheel of the car Bruce sent for you. The backseat empty even if you sat on it.
When you got home, you walk in on something that made each cracked piece of you ache.
Apparently it was game night. Everyone that mattered was playing Mario cart of all things.
"Look at that Cinderella’s back from the ball." Jason was the first to notice you standing in the doorway of the room. And, his words burned.
Cinderella. Cinderella. Back from the Ball.
"Hey, glad you’re back. Hope you had fun." Dick didn't even glance at you as he spoke, took focused on beating Stephanie who had her tongue sticking out as she concentrated.
"God, those galas are so boring, I don’t know how you do it." Duke says in passing. It would be meaningful if he hadn't said the same thing the last six times you had come home.
Tim and Damian were also playing the game, with Tim occasionally nudging Damian to mess him up. Like typical siblings.
Barbara was in the room as well, a book on her lab to read. Only you could tell she hadn't read much, judging from where her book mark was located.
"Good job." Bruce says absentmindedly. You can't even tell if its directed at you or at the blueshell Damian just managed to hit Dick's racer with.
Words don't even leave your lips as you exit the doorway, pieces of you falling to the floor as you wobble to your room.
Cinderella. Cinderella.
The clock striking twelve in your mind as you feel the rotten pumpkin sinking in your gut and the magic wearing off.
You don't notice that Cassandra seems to hear it too as she watches you. Like she can hear the shards falling to the ground. And, she's unsure if she needs to warn the family that something just broke down the hall.
As you enter your room, taking in the fancy decor. It feels disgusting. The magic is gone. It's all rotten and you want it gone.
Cinderella. Cinder. Cinder.
Your tear the fabric of the dress as you take it off. Tears falling down your cheeks s you struggle against the fabric and clasp. Expensive gemstones falling to the floor as your finally rip it free.
There bruises under your dress. Finger prints on your bones. And, you're choking on air as the fabric rubs your skin as it falls to the floor. The fabric ripples like water and you hate it. You want the opposite of cool rippling water. Water drowns, and you need air.
Your skin feels to hot and each bruise burns.
Cinder. Cinder.
You're Cinderella and you crave ashes. You need air, but smoke will do instead.
Instead of letting it lay on the ground like it's dead, you throw open that grand window in your room and chuck it out the window. Watching as it flutters and falls to the grass in a heap, the breeze doing nothing to cool your anger on and underneath.
It’s not enough. Not enough. It's not going to be enough.
More. Cinderella. Give it more.
Your closet door was cracked when you left for the gala tonight. Now you break it the rest of the way and grab each hanger carrying a pretty dress in a bag and throw it over the ledge.
Still not enough. Needs more ash.
Cinderella. Cinderella.
You break you dresser as you rip out the drawers. The wood splintering as you throw it out the window and on to the pile of dresses on the night dew covered grass.
You want to throw more, but you chest is heaving and your hands are shaking. Instead you stumble out of your room with just the bruises on your skin and towards the kitchen. You don't even hear the pans and cabinets doors slamming as you search for the matches.
Before you can find your light, you find a bottle of fancy wine. One that reminded you of the smell of this night.
You grab it, not caring that another bottle falls and shatters by your feet. Drawing attention, but not yours, as you finally find the matches and wobble out the door towards your pile of soon to be ash.
Cinderella. Cinderella.
You're laughing as you shatter the bottle on to the fabric. Lighting up a single match and then throwing the entire box at it the pile.
It catches light quick and the air around you finally matches the heat under your skin.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” You can barely hear Bruce's voice from behind you as your laugh. Turing to face him and the rest of the family's horrified faces at the sight of you.
You can barely restrain the giggles.
“I’m Cinderella. Cinder fucking Ella.” You spin like the little figurine you are. Like the pretty paper ballerina before she burst into flame.
Bruce rushes towards you, words spilling from his lips as terrifying thoughts fill his head at the sight of the bruises illuminating your skin.
“What happened tonight?”
“You would know if you had been there. But, you weren't. You never are.”
“Listen, you said you liked the galas-“ Excuses, excuses. You made enough for him and the rest of them in your own head that you don't want to hear more spoken out loud.
“I did! I did! But, that was when I had my father there to keep me safe.” You mock, spinning out of reach and looking at the flames.
They don't last long. The wood from your broken dresser drawers the only thing keeping the fire going. The expensive fabric not lasting long at all. Pretty things rarely ever do.
“But, no. I’m just another little one of your pawns in this family. Only you didn’t fuckin’ train me on how to fight off wandering hands. You taught me that I just had to grin and bare it.” Bitterness trips from your lips as you wipe of that sweet tasting wine from the night off your mouth.
“What happened?” His voice almost shakes. Almost, but not quite. You were the fragile one. The paper ballerina. The little Cinderella of the family.
You weren't suppose to break under his care.
But, was there any care if he let you fall from the shelf after he so haphazardiously placed you on it between uses?
“I’m not a whore.” You whisper to yourself. Words that had been dying to say to the hands that touches to tonight. Words that you wanted to shove down the throats of the strangers that pinched your skin, that gripped you too tight and too close.
“I’M NOT A WHORE!” Instead you scream it at him. Uncaring if you don't look pretty and perfect while doing it. Uncaring if your voice cracks from the way the emotion bubbles from your chest.
Startling enough, Bruce wraps his arms around you. Like he was trying to shield you. Like he was trying to keep you safe. Like he should have done. It feels awkward and tight. Your arms pressed tightly to your chest at an awkward angle. Your legs giving out at you sob and scream at him.
“Don’t touch me. Don’t you touch me. Let me go— I don’t want you to touch me.”
“I’m sorry. I’m— I’m so sorry.” His whispers over into your hair as he clutches you close. So close that you feel more bruises forming on your skin.
Cinderella. Cinderella.
“I’m not—" Your voice breaking as you wail. Like the child you are in his arms.
Through your tears you watch Dick turn away, followed by the others. Cass lingering to brush your hair back as Bruce holds you tight.
You don't see his fist clench so tight his knuckles turn white.
You don't hear the silence in the cave as Jason changes out the bullets in his gun.
You don't feel the chill in the air as Damian scouts out the fancy house.
You don't feel the fear of God that Tim puts into grown men as that watch their wealthy drain to zero before their eyes on screens.
You don't watch as Barbara makes a few calls and plants evidence of crimes that can't be covered up.
You don't see Stephanie ripping out teeth.
You don't see Duke letting Gotham go dark as terror reigns for that one long night and day.
You just see Bruce, holding you close and apologize over and over again while Alfred puts out the flames behind you.

A/N: Yeah, I love the thought of Reader being the one to be the Socialite Wayne while everyone does vigilante stuff. But, interacting with Gotham’s elite would suck so much and so many things could go wrong.
A/N: Apologies if I missed the mark with it or if it’s all over the place.
A/N: I just really loved the imagery of standing in front of a fire of expensive burning dresses while screaming at Bruce naked as the day you were born much to the rest of the family’s horror.

"Tilia is a vest-wearing conservation dog that the 444-acre [Mequon] nature preserve relies on for vital conservation and restoration work.
The dog’s responsibilities include sniffing out invasive and endangered species in the prairies, forests, and wetlands of Mequon.
Conservation dogs have become more commonplace in wildlife organizations, tapping into their astonishing scent-detecting abilities.
“Dogs in general already have up to 200 million olfactory sensors,” Cory Gritzmacher, the director of operations at the nature preserve, told Wisconsin Life.
Humans, on the other hand, have about 5 million.
“[Dogs are] already set up and designed for scent detection,” Gritzmacher added. “It’s really just finding a dog that’s motivated, that wants to do it on a regular basis and is excited to do it.”
Tilia was the pup for the job.

One of her main roles is to detect wild parsnip, an invasive species that staff removes once it is found on the property.
Compared to humans, Tilia can find parsnip in its first year, while it’s still close to the ground and camouflaged by other plants. This is vital, since parsnip will start to spread rapidly by the time it reaches its second season in the preserve.
Studies show that the estimated damage caused by invasive species has cost the United States around $120 billion annually, as it impacts agriculture, recreational industries, and wildlife management.
By catching invasive species that take hold of local flora and fauna early, Tilia achieves something no humans can.
“The best trained volunteers or staff in the world won’t even be able to find what a canine can,” Gritzmacher said. “That’s the pretty impressive part of it. And who doesn’t want to go to work with a dog?” ...
Tilia began training as a puppy, and now nearly seven years old, she’s a pro at scent detection — which all started with some treats hidden in cardboard boxes...
“As she continues to hit on the correct scent, then she gets rewarded. So, she’s going to get paid again. We do our work, we get paid. She does her work, she gets paid.”
Tilia can also spot Blue-Spotted and Easter Tiger Salamanders, which are endangered in the area. Her other scents include Wood Turtle and Garlic Mustard.

Of course, her workload remains balanced with time off. Her official owner is the director of Mequon Nature Preserve, who is happy to embrace her as the family dog when she’s not out sniffing.
But Gritzmacher, who trains and works alongside Tilia, adores her, not only for her companionship, but for the miracles she is able to work as an asset to Wisconsin’s conservationists.
“Canines are going to start to play a huge role in the conservation field just because of their amazing detection skills,” Gritzmacher said, “especially when resources are limited, staff is limited and you have to search potentially thousands of acres or miles.”
In fact, Tilia was joined by a partner in crime a few years ago: Timber, another chocolate lab who is actually the offspring of Tilia’s sister.
By following in her pawprints, Timber’s “powerful nose will be a key tool” in the preserve’s “land restoration efforts,” according to its website.
“For years, scientists have tried to replicate the power and efficiency of the canine nose,” Mequon Nature Preserve adds on a webpage for Tilia and Timber.
“The results keep coming back the same: The canine nose is second to none. Coupled with an insatiable desire to work and serve, Tilia and Timber help us find things humans often can’t.”"

⋆౨ৎ˚⟡˖࣪ adore me, mark your territory !!

ᝰ.ᐟ after having to endure locker room conversation since his blue lock days all the way up to his pro days, yukimiya realizes that if he wants to show you just how serious he is about his thoughts on his relationship with you, he needs to make his mark on you. ( fem!reader )
pairing kenyu yukimiya x reader word count 3.6k content contains corruption kink/innocence kink, loss of virginity (both you and yukki), first time, creampie, breeding kink, slightly manipulative!yukki, you two attended the same private catholic high school, mentions of purity culture, coercion, very naive reader, talks of marriage, dark(ish) content kinktober masterlist
To love someone is to know them.
You love Kenyu Yukimiya with all your heart; you know his hopes and his dreams, his fears and the tiny voice in his head that serves to either goad or encourage him. The two of you grew up together, attending all the same Catholic private schools up ‘til he went pro fresh out of high school graduation, and you decided to attend a tiny, private all girls university.
You know that he’s kind and funny, much more outgoing and adventurous than you. You know that he can be gentle, and that he chooses to always be gentle with you. You know that he loves you just as much as you love him.
But while distance makes the heart grow fonder, perhaps it’s the distance that has caused this newfound unfamiliarity between the two of you.
“Kenny, I don’t… I don’t understand.” You’re lying down on your painfully small twin-sized mattress in your dorm room. Kenyu’s on top of you, his body hovering over your own. He gives you that familiar, comforting smile of his as he asks you gently (your Kenyu’s always so gentle with you),
“We love each other, don’t we?”
“Of course we do.” You say softly. Your arms are by your side, and you’re playing with the frills on the oversized comforter of your bed. Your whole entire room still screams girl. Yukimiya finds it endearing; he finds everything about you so damn endearing. Your floral quilts, and the stuffed animals he’s won for you from claw machines and unfairly rigged carnival games. Your fluffy comforter, and the way you always love to wear dresses, even when it’s just to attend a lecture.
And your unwavering innocence.
Everyone knows that Catholic private schools aren’t as pristine as the parents of the students like to claim it is, but you’re the only one who remained devout. The only one who genuinely stayed true to the lessons taught. You didn’t drink, you didn’t smoke, you didn’t sneak out. The only parties you attended were birthday parties chaperoned by a trusted adult and held in the early afternoon. You always followed the dress code and never tried to get away with folding the waistband of your school-issued skirt to make it shorter, like some of the other girls did. Hell, Kenyu had to literally ask your father for permission to date you before he asked you out.
And while Kenyu’s always been on his best behavior, it’s not like he’s unaware of the world. He’s not naive like you. And that’s okay. One of you has to know enough to lead the other; Yukimiya’s more than happy that he’s the one taking on that role.
The thing is, Kenyu truly does love you. It’s why he doesn’t rush you, doesn’t try to force you to go further than what you think you’re capable of, than what you think you’re allowed to go. He ignores the hard on he gets every time you two make out, the way your hips sometimes move on their own, grinding against him with no thought to strip out of your clothes and let him finish. You’ve been together since the first year of high school, and now you’re in college, and he’s playing professional soccer, and he loves you, and he still hasn’t even seen your pussy. Honestly, his closest friends tell him he must be a saint.
But the talks in the locker room, the snide comments from his least favorite teammates, the jokes and the teasing and the mocking, condescending tones — gotta protect Yukki’s ears, can’t let him Mr. Private School hear this, as if he’d even know what we’re talking about; damn virgin — all of it is chipping away at his pacifist, mild-mannered demeanor, revealing the feral, greedy egoist that lies underneath.
You had been so excited to hear your beloved boyfriend was flying down to your college town this weekend, just to see you! Your roommate’s out on a holiday with her parents, leaving the dorm room all to yourselves. In your cute mind, this just means more room for the two of you to hang out.
For Yukimiya, it means he has no more obstacles to get in the way of him fucking you for the first time.
“And you know what two people who love each other do, right?” He’s still using the same pacifying, soothing tone he always uses when he’s trying to calm you down. When you skinned your knees and cried from the sting of the alcohol wipes used to clean the cuts, he had used this voice on you. When you cried at the airport because he was leaving the country to meet the team who paid an exorbitant amount to have him on their starting lineup, he had used this voice on you. Right now, you can’t understand why he’s using this voice on you. You’re not hurt; just confused.
“Kenyu, wh-what are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about making love, [Name].” One large palm is rubbing up and down the smooth skin of your thigh. The movement causes the thin fabric of your sundress to rise up. Yukimiya’s never touched you down there before. You don’t know why his touch feels so good, but you do understand what he’s talking about now.
“But Kenny—” Your voice is reduced to nothing more than a nervous whisper, almost as if you’re scared someone is listening in. “—we can’t. That’s for married couples.”
Well, if it’s any consolation, Yukimiya’s always planned on marrying you.
He kisses your forehead, his hand never relenting from its position on your thigh. Your dress remains lifted up at an angle on one side. He can see part of your cotton panties; plain and white. If he moves his fingers up a few more centimeters, he could tug at the waistband of them.
“I know, sweetheart. But I’ve been thinking…” His hand travels from up your thigh to rest on your hip. The one side of your dress is now all the way up, and his thumb rests on the thin waistband of your panties, rubbing reassuring circles to get you to remain calm underneath him. “We’ll get married soon, anyway, right? I love you so much that I need an outlet to show you just how much I love you.”
“Married? Soon?” Your eyes widen. You find yourself daydreaming about marrying Yukimiya, starting a family. Yukimiya’s smile stretches wide across his handsome face. His sweet girl, he knew you’d be putty in his hands after he mentioned that.
“Of course.” He kisses you on your lips sweetly, his hand never leaving your hip. “And I want to give you all the love a husband has for his wife. Won’t you let me, [Name]?”
Kenyu’s always been handsome. You have a collection of all his professional photoshoots, and you know that he has a bunch of fangirls from just his looks alone. It’s so unfair of him, really, to give you that imploring look of his. You can’t say no to Yukimiya, and you think you never want to.
And so you do let him.
Kenyu’s quick. With the speed he normally reserves for on the field, Kenyu’s mouth meets your at the same time his other hand grips your neglected hip. Now both of his hands are bunching up the fabric of your dress, pulling the skirt up to reveal your simple, plain panties.
“Mmph.” You moan into the kiss. This is a bit different than what you two normally engage in; somehow, everything feels a lot heavier, headier. You can’t seem to think straight. All you can focus on is chasing after his lips, matching his hungry pace.
The heat radiating off the two of you is enough for Kenyu to separate from you momentarily. The lens of his glasses are fogged up, and he grins at you, satisfied at the progress you’re making, before taking his glasses off and setting them neatly on your nightstand.
And then he’s back to kissing you passionately again. You’re lost in the pleasure of his kisses, unknowingly bucking your hips up, not knowing why your body is craving friction, for some attention, down there. Your hands reach up to grip the front of Kenyu’s shirt, tugging at him, trying to bring him closer. You’re getting desperate, and he finds it so cute.
“Lift your arms up for me, sweetheart.” He mumbles against your lips, and your head’s too hazy for you to properly register his request. He repeats it, still as gentle as ever with you, and this time, you manage to comply.
“Fuck.” You don’t hear Kenyu curse often; he says it’s impolite to do so in front of his girl. He breathes out the word, and you feel shy all of a sudden as his eyes roam over your body. He tossed your dress to the side unceremoniously, and because the dress itself had padding, you decided not to wear a bra. You’re laying on your bed, nothing to protect your modesty besides your cotton panties.
“You’re the most beautiful girl in the world. The only girl I see.” He praises you, and you don’t feel too shy anymore.
“K-Kenyu—” You look up at him, all doe-eyed and sweet. You’re pressing your thighs together, drawing his attention to the plush of your thighs, the way hiding in between your legs is your special place that only Kenyu will be allowed to see, to touch, to taste, to love. “What do we do now?”
He leans down, whispering in your ear in his familiar, kind voice, “Now, you lay down, and let me show you how much I love you.”
You love Kenyu so much, you think it should be impossible for your heart to have so much room for him. You know Kenyu must feel the same way, but never before has his love for you ever felt so overwhelming. Kenyu pries your thighs apart, forcing you to open your legs for him, but you didn’t know showering you in his love meant that he was going to take his fingers and rub against the mound in your underwear.
“W-wait, Kenny!” You yelp, trying to shut your legs, but he’s too big, too strong. He blocks the movement, keeps you nice and spread for him. “I—” You don’t know what to tell him, and you don’t know how to explain why there’s a tiny puddle gathering in the thin fabric of your panties. Sometimes, you feel funny and this starts to happen, usually after a long makeout session with your boyfriend.
“You’re so wet for me, [Name].” He almost sounds in awe, staring down at your covered pussy almost as if in a trance. The pace he’s using is rather slow; he’s content, for now, with just stroking his fingers up and down your covered slit, fascinated with the way he can watch you slowly drench through the cotton. The wet spot only continues to grow; he bets he can get his fingers damp with your arousal soon, and he wouldn’t even have to take your panties off to do so. “Do you always get this wet for me?”
You want to cry, and you can even feel the tears welling up in your eyes. He looks up, instantly stopping his ministrations, his concern written all over his expression. “Hey, hey.” He shushes you, peppering kisses all over your face. He’s not stroking you anymore, but his large hand is cupping your pussy, the heat of his hand encasing your special place. You’re practically throbbing against him, your cunt aching and hungry for his touch. He just has to get you to open up for him, to understand. “There’s nothing wrong with that. You’re supposed to get wet right here for me, you know that?”
You sniffle, unsure if he’s just placating you. “Really?”
“Really.” His smile is so gentle, his tone so soothing and reassuring. He’s back to grazing his knuckles across your cunt, enjoying the way the fabric keeps on getting damper. “It means your body is happy, and it lets me know that you love me as much as I love you.”
His other starts to tug at your waistband, dragging down your panties until he’s pulling them right off. His breath catches in his throat as he looks down and stares at your pussy for the first time. Your folds are glistening, your little clit peeking out at him, begging for him to suck on, to rub against.
“Cute.” He tells you, tracing a finger curiously against your slit, the tip of his index finger so close to entering your clenching, unbreached hole. “I’m going to make you feel really good now, okay, [Name]? Tell me, have you ever played with yourself down here?”
“Wha-?” You’re confused, appropriately so. The boys and girls were separated during sex education, but you remember your teacher drilling it into your heads that under no circumstances should a young girl ever touch herself. You had been confused at the time, confused as to why anyone would ever. You’ve been taught that only your husband should ever touch you right there. But Yukimiya loves you, and he’s going to be your husband, and now you’re starting to think you know why girls may want to touch themselves. You’ve felt this heat in between your thighs before, this mysterious hunger for something, but now you’re feeling it tenfold. You shake your head, too choked up to speak.
“No? Not even like this?” You don’t expect Kenyu to insert his finger. The intrusion is foreign, but not entirely unwelcome. Your walls instinctively clench around his digit, and he has to remind himself to breathe, to remain collected, to take things slow so you can enjoy yourself properly. “You’re clamping down on just one finger.” He breathes out, curling his finger, moving it against your walls. He brushes against a spongy spot inside of you, one that has you jerking up, a shocked, pleasured moan escaping from your parted lips. “That feel good?” He asks, before adding a second finger, both of them bumping against that same sweet spot.
Your legs feel like jelly, and you nod weakly. It does feel good. Too good. So overwhelmingly good that a foreign, euphoric sensation is taking over you. You can’t seem to control your body, and you can’t stop the flow of cute, pleasured mewls flowing from your mouth, and you manage to scream out a warning to Yuki. “S-something is—”
A clear stream of liquid spurts out of you, splashes onto him, soaks your cute comforter.
“Fuck, you’re amazing.” Your walls are too sensitive now, but throughout the whole process, Yukimiya never stops thrusting his fingers in and out of your inexperienced cunt. His eyes are wide, but the gleam in them is sharp, hungry, calculating. “I didn’t even get a chance to mess with your cute little clit. You came just from penetration?” He finally removes his fingers, examining the way your juices are dripping off his digits. “You didn’t just cum, you squirted.”
You turn your head, trying to bury your face in a pillow so he can’t see the embarrassed and debauched expression on your face, but he takes his dry hand and forces you to continue looking up at him.
“That’s a good thing, sweetheart.” He coos, sucking at his fingers obscenely before releasing them from his mouth with a pop!. “It means you’re perfect and all ready for me.”
Kenyu knows that his cock is the first cock you’ve ever seen, and he’ll make damn certain that it’s the only one you’ll be seeing for the rest of your life. There’s no frame of reference for you to use, but you don’t think that men should be so big. When he frees his dick, making a show of squeezing tightly at the base and pumping it, showing off to you, you swallow hard.
He taps the head of his cock against your swollen, needy clit, teasing the both of you. He’s losing all sense of restraint, and even rubbing the underside of his cock against your glistening folds, trying to slick up his cock so it’ll be easier to glide into your soaked cunt, is enough to make him want to cum.
“I’m going to fuck you now, sweetheart.” His voice sounds strained, the gentle tone hanging on by a thread. “We’ll be making love for the first time. Aren’t you excited?”
You nod. Excited and nervous. His cock much larger than his fingers, and maybe he should have prepped you more, but you came so easily. He always knew you were perfect for him. Pleasure is so unknown to you, the tiniest taste of it is enough to take you out. Perfect, perfect, perfect.
He holds your hand and kisses you to distract you from the sting of his cock breaching your virgin cunt. You gasp into the kiss, pain registering in your mind first, but Yukimiya is quick to take your breath away, to swallow up any potential protests that might have come. He keeps on kissing you, his fingers intertwined with your own, and he’s pushing himself as deep as he can go. He only lets up from the kiss the second he’s buried to the hilt, and you greedily swallow up the oxygen you’ve been deprived of.
The feeling of a hard cock inside of you is foreign, but your body clings to his length. Unlike his fingers, with its dexterous ministrations that had you keening and squirting when he brushed them against a special spot, his cock fills you up, stuffs you full. Your cunt is greedily sucking him in, and when he whispers that he’s going to really start moving now, it’s not just one spot that he’s hitting.
You’re not sure what’s happening to your body, but it feels like Yukimiya is wringing out pleasure from you from every angle inside of you.
“Ah, fuck, you feel so good for me, sweetheart. Such a tight pussy, so wet, so warm.” The heat encasing his cock is nothing like he’s ever experienced before. The wet warmth of your pussy is so inviting, so intensely pleasurable, that Kenyu doesn’t think he’ll be able to last. Cumming so soon might be embarrassing, but it’s not. Not when it’s his sweet girl’s pussy that’s begging for his cum.
You wail out his name, your legs reflexively encircling around his waist, locking him in, keeping him close to you as you cum again. This orgasm is practically ripped out from you, your cunt way too sensitive, the repeated battering of his cock drilling into your hole too much for your inexperienced mind and body to handle.
“Kenyu, Kenyu, Kenyu!” When you say his name like that, it makes it hard for him to not immediately bust a load inside of you. Gone is the gentle expression from your boyfriend’s face; in its place is something feral, dark.
When he pulls out, he sees your white cream coating his cock. When he thrusts back in, he hears the lewd squelch of your wet, overstuffed pussy. It’s enough to drive a man insane with lust.
“Hey, sweetheart.” He grunts out, and your head struggles to remain straight, to not loll to the side and let yourself be used. You look up at him, but your eyes are glassy and your mind seems to be in a far away place, so far gone, so fucked out. “We’re going to get married soon. So it’s okay if I get you pregnant right now, right?” His bare cock fucking your virgin pussy raw. He’s going crazy. “I’m gonna fill you up, get you all nice and bred for me. Make you my wife, make you a mommy.”
The domestic daydream makes you tighten up around him, even though your body is too weak to cum again. That’s alright. He’ll just have to cum enough for the both of you.
“Hang onto me, sweetheart.” And you do. Your legs are still wrapped around him, but you weakly raise your arms, holding him close to you. He starts pounding at your pussy, his unrivaled speed and strength turning you into mush. You have to dig your nails into the muscled skin of his back, feeling like you’re on the edge of a cliff, about to crash.
“Fuck, I’m about to put a baby in you, love. My sweet girl, my sweet wife.” He kisses you, messy and sloppy, and he stills. The aggressive thrusts stop, and you realize why.
There’s a new heat entering inside of you; hot spurts of his cum are pouring into you, and he only moves his hips a bit to plug you up further, to make sure none of his seed can trickle out of you.
You’re about to lose consciousness, your brain fried from pleasure and exhaustion. All you do is weakly mumble out his name before the world goes black.
You think if this is what making love is, you love love.
“Holy shit, Yukki.” Isagi gapes at his shirtless teammate.
Yukimiya glances up, about to pull his jersey over his head. “What?”
“What the hell happened to you?”
“Hm?” He asks, before turning to try to examine his back. Across the pale muscles are thin, red scratches, fading slightly from the time it’s been etched onto his skin by your nails. He smiles serenely, his mild-mannered attitude ever present. “Oh, this? My fiancee likes me close to her at all times.”

obsessed - k! bakugo

synopsis - despite knowing you've successfully bagged katsuki bakugou, aka pro hero dynamight, his fans are still shipping him with his ex. so what's a better way to claim him than leaving little trails of your love on him? specifically, his body.
intro (you're here) - masterlist - next

a bubbly laugh came from your phone, followed by a sweet, dolce voice and cheers from an audience. "I appreciate the question, sizuku. actually, one of my favourite songs these days has been obsessed by olivia rodrigo! i resonate with the song a lot, especially since some people have really been keeping tabs on me." another carefree laugh.
that fucking bitch.
the twitter video came to an abrupt end, having over a thousand likes, with the caption being absolutely absurd.
'did pro hero dynamight's ex-girlfriend just confirm that y/n's stalking her...? oh, that crazy bitch.'
it took every fibre of your being to not reply to the tweet; you knew what she was doing. having been katsuki's ex two years prior, she was much loved by his fans. they were painted as 'Japan's sweethearts', and when the relationship ended, fans were in shambles.
people began posting conspiracies, claiming katsuki had cheated on her or that he'd been abusing her. despite the heinous claims from fans, his ex, amira, played into the role of a distressed woman, earning sympathies from the public.
sympathy she didn't even deserve.
however, when you came into the picture, the situation blew up even more. fans were livid; they hated you, claiming you were the reason for the split, ignoring the fact that you and katsuki began dating almost seven months after their relationship.
"you see it?" his voice was low, dangerous even.
lifting your head, you locked eyes with your now fiancé. "tch, it's quite hard to miss, given that everyone's slut-shaming me in my comments." you rolled your eyes at him, giving him a nasty attitude you know he hated.
"watch it," he said. "i hate it too, but don't give me any shit, doll."
"whatever, kats. she does this shit all the damn time, and your fans eat it up like shit. it's about time they accept you aren't getting back with her." you grumbled, clearly upset by the ordeal.
"i know sweets, it's not your fault. you know how many times i've spoken up about it. they don't give a fucking damn or respect me." he sighs, placing a hand over yours.
you hold on to him tightly, nails digging into his skin unintentionally. "you know, i really wish i could say something, but they don't care! they never will, and she just keeps egging it on."
the two of you sat in silence for a while. maybe if she weren't a bitch, you'd like her. unfortunately, she acts like a prissy princess, always making snide remarks and playing the victim.
selena gomez who? at least she knows how to keep it classy.
a few hours had passed, and your rage had settled into a fuzzy feeling in your stomach. katsuki had left to tend to some hero business while you were left alone with your thoughts, and that's where you came up with the plan.
the 'shove-my-happiness-in-their-faces-so-she-can-cry' plan.
you smirked to yourself, pleased with the idea and immediately getting to work on how to execute it.
HOW TO GET BACK AT HER
make sure katsuki leaves the house in a questionable state
hire someone to 'leak' crude pictures of the two of you on holiday
go on an interview show together
flaunt your proposal in her face.
recreate a moment from their relationship, and i mean the same place, similar outfit and same pose.
heated and messy livestream on Instagram
do tiktok trend ft obsessed by olivia as the sound
even messier podcast
soft launch the wedding, in a colour that she claims is hers.
you let out a laugh, dark and spiteful, ready to see that witch melt.

you reap what you sow

# pairings: yandere sugar daddy harem x sugar baby reader
# synopsis: you’ve been dating eight guys all at the same time for they’re money. hopefully they never find out about each other
# warnings: this will contain dark themes such as obsession and possessiveness. if you are uncomfortable, please block me. viewer discretion is advised. minors DNI.
# notes: inspired by that one tiktok vid. Ifykyk. reblogs, comments, and likes are appreciated!
# parts: part 1 𖤓 part 2 𖤓 part 3
love is a transaction, and you’ve mastered the art of the deal. eight men, each convinced they’re the center of your world, each blind to the truth. they call you when they’re lonely, when they need an ego boost, when they want to feel wanted.
you play your part well—sweet, devoted, just naive enough to keep them comfortable. they see you as temporary, something to be enjoyed and discarded. but that’s fine. as long as the gifts keep coming, as long as the money flows, you’ll let them believe whatever they want. you don’t care as long as the money keeps coming. they’re all your darlings.
they think they’re using you—another pretty thing to entertain them until they get bored. but you don’t mind. boredom works in your favor. their wallets open easier when they don’t take you seriously.
you smile, you flatter, you play your role to perfection. eight men, eight lives, none the wiser. they think they hold all the power, that you should be grateful for whatever scraps of affection they toss your way.
but in the end, you’re the one collecting the rewards.
you’re a master at time management—you’ve been dating these guys simultaneously for a year. one year perfecting the balance, juggling their schedules, their tempers, their affections. none of them have discovered the others' existence. too dumb to suspect a thing. they all think they’re the one you love most. they often feel troubled and annoyed by your affection toward them, and they’ve repeatedly told you to know your place, not to harbor any unrealistic hope.
HA HA HA.
the only unrealistic hope you have is for their money.
you don’t need love—you need their money. their attention. their willingness to spoil you even as they look down on you.
and as long as they keep giving, you’ll keep playing along.
you often cycle through the messages on your phone, each conversation carefully tailored. each boyfriend is a puzzle piece slotted into your perfect game. some of them are cruel, sneering when they hand you gifts. others act indifferent, as if their presence alone is payment enough. you smile and nod and let them think they own you. none of them do.
you’ve rehearsed every lie. when one calls late at night, you’re just getting out of the bath. when another wants to meet, you’re swamped with work. if two of them go to the same café, you warn one about a sudden stomach ache. they eat out of your hand without realizing it.
but something has changed.
they used to forget little details about you, dismissing you as just another fling. now, they remember too much. one recalls your favorite coffee order, even though you never told him. another shows up at places you frequent, acting surprised to see you. one leaves a bouquet of your favorite flowers at your doorstep, carefully arranged with a handwritten note that simply reads, thinking of you. you never told him you liked those flowers. in fact, you don’t even remember mentioning them at all.
their texts, once careless and sparse, become suffocating. "thinking of you," one writes at midnight. "dreamed about you last night," another says. the words feel heavier than before. they ask more questions, ones that dig too deep. "what do you do when we're not together?" "who else do you spend time with?" their words are sweet, but there's an edge, a demand for something unspoken.
their texts, once careless and sparse, become suffocating.
for example,
elijah
elijah never used to care about your whereabouts. he would text you lazily, sometimes going days without responding. but now, he messages you constantly. "where are you?" "who are you with?" "send me a picture."
you laugh it off, telling him he’s being silly, but one night, you catch him outside your workplace. he’s leaning against his car, arms crossed, watching the entrance.
"thought i’d surprise you," he says. "you didn’t answer my texts."
he drives you home without asking, his fingers tapping anxiously against the steering wheel. "you wouldn’t lie to me, would you?" he asks suddenly. his voice is calm, but his grip on the gearshift tightens. "i don’t like being lied to."
you smile, reassure him, say all the right things. he finally relaxes, but his eyes stay sharp, watching you like he’s memorizing your every move.
lucas
lucas has never been the affectionate type, but lately, he’s been pulling you closer, holding onto you longer. his hands linger on your waist when you say goodbye, his fingers curling slightly, as if reluctant to let you go.
"you’re mine, you know that, right?" he whispers one evening, his breath hot against your ear.
"of course," you say, pressing a kiss to his cheek. but inside, something twists. his grip is a little too tight, his smile a little too forced.
the next morning, you wake up to dozens of missed calls from him. your phone buzzes again. "answer me." another message. "don’t ignore me."
you turn off your phone and tell yourself it’s nothing.
nathan
nathan always acted like he had other girls, like he didn’t need you. but now, he’s different. he clings to you in ways that feel desperate, his arrogance cracking.
"i don’t know what i’d do if i lost you," he admits one night, his fingers tracing circles on your wrist. "you wouldn’t leave me, right?"
his voice is soft, but there’s something hollow beneath it, something dark.
"never," you say, and he relaxes—but his grip never loosens.
kai
kai never used to show up unannounced. now, he does. first, at your work. then, at your gym. then, outside your apartment.
"i was just in the neighborhood," he says each time, flashing that easy smile.
but his eyes are always scanning, searching. as if he’s looking for something. or someone.
"i love you, you know," he murmurs one night, his fingers brushing over your cheek. "you wouldn’t betray me. not you."
you laugh, tell him he’s being dramatic.
but when you get home, your apartment door is unlocked.
matthew
matthew was always indifferent, treating you like an afterthought. but not anymore. now, he watches you closely, studying your every move, his head tilted like he’s trying to solve a puzzle.
"you’ve changed," he says one day, his tone unreadable. "you’re hiding something."
you laugh, brush him off. but his gaze lingers, calculating.
"i’ll figure it out," he says finally, and something about the way he says it makes your stomach twist.
leo
leo used to be fun, lighthearted. but now, there’s an edge to him. a quiet intensity that makes you nervous.
"i had a dream about you last night," he tells you one evening. "you were leaving me. i didn’t like it."
you smile, joke that he’s being paranoid. but he just stares at you, unblinking.
"don’t ever do that to me," he says. "not even in a dream."
his fingers tighten around yours. you don’t pull away.
xavier
xavier never asked for more than you were willing to give. but now, he wants everything.
"move in with me," he says suddenly.
it’s not a request.
when you hesitate, his expression darkens. "why not?" he asks. "you love me, don’t you?"
you nod quickly, knowing it’s what he wants to hear. his smile returns, but his eyes remain cold.
"good," he murmurs. "because i won’t let you go."
damien
one night, damien insists on driving you home. he's never offered before. usually, he barely walks you to the door, too preoccupied with himself to care. but tonight, his grip on your wrist lingers a second too long when you try to leave the restaurant. "let me take you home," he says. his voice is smooth, but there's something off in his eyes, something unreadable.
you try to decline, but he doesn’t budge. "humor me," he says with a smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes.
in the car, he doesn't speak. the drive is quiet, too quiet. when you glance at him, his knuckles are tight around the steering wheel. your apartment building comes into view, but instead of stopping out front like he always does, he pulls into the empty lot and turns off the engine.
"damien—" you start, but he cuts you off. "stay a little longer," he says. his voice is soft, almost pleading. "i just... don’t like saying goodbye so soon."
you smile, playing along, though something about the way he's looking at you makes your skin prickle. "next time, okay?"
for a moment, he doesn’t move. then, he exhales sharply and unlocks the doors. "yeah. next time."
as you step out, you feel his eyes on your back the entire way inside.
lately, you feel eyes on you when no one should be there. the messages come faster, their tones more insistent. “where were you last night?” one asks. “you’re mine, aren’t you?” another demands. you brush them off, just as you always do, but the uneasy feeling lingers. they’re getting restless. possessive.
one night, as you return home, you notice something strange—your apartment door is unlocked. your stomach twists. you always double-check. always.
inside, everything is untouched. but the air feels different, charged. you close the door and step forward cautiously. the silence is suffocating.
you shake the feeling off. no one knows. no one has found out.
not yet.

9:23.
On the days you weren’t working on a case, and the only thing you really needed to catch up on was paperwork, your usual start time was 8:30. Yet almost an hour had gone by and he wasn’t in his office like he usually would be.
With a punctual Unit Chief like Aaron Hotchner, it was a shock, and a little nerve-wracking that he was late.
You’d lie if you didn’t say you were getting a little worried, taking into account the last and only time he’d been late - Foyet attacking him in his own home, leaving him with long-lasting trauma, scars, and without his family.
You'd never forget that day, and every day after where he was left to suffer, laying the blame on himself. No matter how many times you said it, how many times Rossi patted him on the back, reminding him it wasn't his fault, you knew a part of him still didn't believe it.
And the part of you that cared about him, maybe a little more than you should, didn't have the heart to watch him do this to himself - the silent guilt, the long empty looks.
You’ve known him awhile, seen him through many of his ups, and just as many as his downs. You’d seen him laugh in glee and beam with happiness, you’d seen him lose it in anger and anguish and you’d seen him cry in heartbreak.
So much of your life spent beside him, so many memories linked with him, and your team. And much of it you knew was friendly love - your love for Emily and Spencer, JJ and Morgan, Penelope and Rossi. But the love you felt for him was just a tiny bit different, deeper, not the friendly kind.
You’d only recently started to understand what you were really feeling for him, as recent as the last few weeks. Still new and a little unexplainable at times, you were learning to balance that, within your friendship.
You didn’t think you wanted to pursue anything, right now. It had been a little over two years since he’d lost Haley, since he’d needed to start navigating his life as a single dad, a widower.
You could still see the pain in his eyes, fresh as the day it had happened. You knew he was managing, but it was still apparent, that it was hitting them both hard.
And Jack? He was a little ray of sunshine in the otherwise gruesome life all of you led - the same could be said about Henry. But Henry was Reid's favorite, as his godfather, you knew the bond between them was unbreakable.
But Jack? You were his favorite, and he was yours.
He was your little buddy, your partner in all things art, cartoons, and Disney shows. He was your little helper during all things baking - you'd babysat once and he'd requested chocolate chip, peanut butter cookies and you'd been more than happy to help him make them.
He was a natural baker and a little taster.
Your love for the little cutie ran as deep as your feelings for his dad.
At the end of the day though, you were a friend, a shoulder both could use to lean on and rely on. You were comfortable in your role within their little family and weren't looking to make any changes then.
9:28.
You were playing with your watch, already having decided you’d be giving him a call if he didn't arrive by 9:30.
Worry was making your hands sweat, and just as you went to wipe them on your pants, the door to the bullpen opened, and in walked a very frantic Hotch - his tie was a little crooked, shirt a little wrinkled, and Jack - a little backpack on his back, and a curious look paired with a timid smile.
Aaron's eyes searched the bullpen, as did Jack's, the little Hotchner noticing you seconds before his father did. You stood up, watching as the blond pulled away from his dad, and on a little run, made his way towards you.
“Cutiee.” He called out, using the nickname you called him, to address you too. You leaned down when he was a few steps away, accepting his hug, his little arms wrapping around your neck.
“Hi, cutie.” You greeted him, a wide smile on your face. Hotch had made his way over to you by then, giving you a barely-there smile, but his eyes shone.
“You're late.” You started, pulling to your full height.
“Yeah, Jessica was called on an emergency at the last minute, and Liah is away on a hiking trip, so here we are.” Liah was Hotch's neighbor, she looked after Jack for a few hours when Hotch couldn't stay with him, or Jess was busy.
He looked at his watch, running a hand through his hair, messing it up a little.
“I have a meeting with Strauss…well, right now. Can you please watch him until I get done?”
“Go, don't make her wait. We'll be okay and we're going to have fun. Right, Jack?” You watched him nod at both you and his dad before Hotch exhaled.
“You're a lifesaver. Be good for Y/N, okay buddy.” Another nod from Jack, and he was on his way to Strauss's office.
‘’Okay Jack, let's see if Aunt Penelope can download a few episodes of ‘The Suite Life’ for us, and then we'll go color and draw for a while. Does that sound good to you?”
“Very good. Can I also have orange juice?” He asked, taking your hand in his small, soft one, fingers wrapping around your own.
“Let's go see if we have any.” You walked towards the small communal kitchen space, checking the fridge and then you checked the pantry…and, “Bingo. Let's go see the lair.” You led him to Penelope's office.
“Knock, knock, may us mortals enter?” You joked, making your little partner giggle.
“Us?” Her voice rang from the other side of the door.
“I have sir Hotchner with me. The smaller one.”
“Hey,” Jack said in outrage
“My favorite Hotchner.” You added.
Penelope pulled the door open, beaming at both of you, before she made space for you to enter.
“Jack, my love, hi,” She raised her hand, letting him give her a high five. Even though she was affectionate, Jack wasn’t as much, especially after Haley. He only hugged a few people now - Jess, his dad, and surprisingly, you.
It really showed how comfortable he was with you.
“What brings you to my tech cave?” She asked. You raised your brows at him, prompting him to do the talking.
“Can you, please, download a few episodes of Zack and Cody for us?” His voice rang with its usual child calm and sweetness, fingers intertwined in front of him.
Penelope's smile softened even more, “Sure thing, sweetie,” Her eyes turned towards you then, “Your tablet?”
“Yes, please.” You knew it was a work tablet, but no one had to know.
“Any requests?” She asked the little guy.
“You pick.”
“Okay-dokey. Should have it in about 10 minutes, my loves.”
“Thank you, Aunt Penelope.”
“Thanks Pen.” You gave her air kisses before you led Jack out and towards his father's office.
His day had started rocky, hell, the whole night had gone that way.
Jack had woken up from a nightmare - twice at that. After the second time, he’d asked Aaron to sleep in his bed, too scared and sad to stay in his room.
He’d snoozed his alarm, just once, and had a hard time waking his son up too. He’d had 20 minutes to get himself ready, but Jessica had called 10 minutes before she was supposed to arrive - apologizing because she’d been called on an emergency at work.
Aaron had to rearrange his whole morning then, already aware he’d be late for work. He’d had to get Jack and his backpack ready and cook him breakfast. All of that, and be in the office before his 9:30 meeting with Strauss.
Breakfast and preparing Jack for a day at the BAU, he’d done successfully. Arriving on time had been a little tricky, with barely 2 minutes to spare.
But when he’d walked into the bullpen, Jack spotting you just seconds before he did, and he’d watched your smile grow, he’d known all would be okay.
Watching you with Jack always brought a warm feeling within him, like he was watching something sacred. You were always patient and kind, always interested in listening to him talk, even though he was a quiet kid, who appreciated quality time more.
You gave him that too, and a lot of it - you watched cartoons and shows with him. Colored and drew, baked cookies, and played with him whenever he wanted. Any time spent with Jack was about what he wanted, what he liked doing, and above all, making him comfortable.
Even if it meant cleaning flour off your kitchen floor and whatever had gotten in the drawers too.
He appreciated, even loved the bond you had with his son, every smile, every hug, and every minute you spend with him. He loved hearing about you from Jack - what you’d done together, what you’d told him, the stories, the jokes, the conversations.
Hearing his son proclaim you as his favorite person in the BAU had made his heart soar. Taking into account all the time you spent with him, it wasn’t really a surprise. He bonded hard, but once he did, he never went back.
He was much like Aaron himself in that regard. His trust had to be earned, as did his friendship, and it required hard work. Jack was much the same. And you’d successfully earned both of theirs with your beautiful and caring personality.
He exhaled a breath, checking his watch, step fast, and briefcase in hand.
11:18.
His meeting with Strauss had run longer than he’d anticipated - over an hour and a half. Diplomacy, politics, budgets, and cuts, they’d run through countless things, half of that meeting already fully blacked out from his memory.
He was tired - every meeting with Strauss left him drained. Worried, about Jack and his state of mind after last night. All he wanted to do was get to his office and check up on his son.
Walking into the bullpen for the second time that day, he quickly made his way towards his office, only to stop short at the window. The blinds were open, having forgotten to close them last night, so he had a clear and full view of his office.
You were sat on the couch close to the armrest, Jack cuddled against you, cheek squished against your collarbone, face almost buried in your neck.
Your work tablet sat propped on the coffee table, and your arm wrapped around his small body, keeping him close. His eyes were almost closed, your thumb running soothingly on his back.
He watched, mesmerized by the scene. He felt himself soften, all of him. His face, the furrow in his brow, and the tight set of his lips. His whole body, his heart, suddenly at peace.
For months he'd observed the kindness you showed everyone - the families of victims, heartbroken by the injustice of life. Passersby, people you might never see again. Your team, especially, your work family. Jack, and even Aaron himself.
And as he watched you with his son, the one person left in this world who truly loved him, no matter his rights or wrongs - he couldn't help but feel himself unravel.
Every little thought he'd had about you, every feeling he might have somehow suppressed in order to protect himself and his child, they all attacked him, in seconds.
Because the truth was, you earned his trust, his friendship, and somehow along the way, you'd won his heart as well.
Right at that moment, his heart pounded in need, in adoration, in pure, clear love. Love he hadn't allowed himself to feel since Haley. Love, he'd frankly hadn't felt in years, ever since he’d put his signature down on the dotted line.
He wanted to get home to see this. He wanted to see you put Jack to bed, and kiss his forehead with a whispered ‘good night’.
He wanted to stroke your cheek tenderly, pull you into a kiss that made you melt, and stroke a fire within you like no one else could.
He wanted to tell you he loved you - in the car, as he drove you to work. In the kitchen during breakfast and dinner. In his office, a few stolen moments as you worked. And under the sheets, while you made love.
And even through the fear that gripped him in a vice, of rejection, separation, and even trust - he still wanted to love you, as if he was loving someone for the first time again.
“Everything okay, Aaron?” David asked, passing on the way to his office.
Aaron barely spared him a glance, nodding his head a little, “Yeah, it's okay.”
He pushed the door to his office open and walked in, greeted by his new favorite sight, and his two favorite people.

also i consider this taking place between dd s3 and ddba
warnings/tags: mentions of twirling/playing with hair, after endgame (so tony is dead😭), best friends to lovers, fluff, pining, oblivious idiots, slight angst, mention of injuries and blood
“And don’t forget to clean the coffee filter. I don’t want anyone getting sick. Again.” You said, grabbing your purse.
“I swear, sometimes your worse than my mother.” Foggy replied, sipping from his mug.
Karen quirked a brow, “your mother isn’t exactly a role model for parenting.”
Matt let out a quiet chuckle, shaking his head. "She’s got a point, Foggy."
Foggy sighed dramatically, setting his mug down. "Yeah, yeah. I’ll clean the damn filter. But if I get coffee poisoning or whatever, I’m blaming you."
"You’ll live," you said, amused. You glanced at Matt, reaching out to fix the slightly crooked knot on his tie. "You should eat something before court."
"Not hungry," he replied, though he didn’t move away.
"You never are," you muttered, smoothing your hands over his lapels before stepping back. "Text me if you need anything."
Matt tilted his head slightly, a small smile playing on his lips. "You say that like you won’t just show up unannounced."
"Don’t tempt me." You grabbed your coat, leaning in to press a quick kiss to his cheek. "See you later."
"See you," Matt said, voice softer now.
You gave a quick wave to Foggy and Karen before heading for the door.
Foggy exhaled loudly as it closed behind you. "That was totally normal. Super normal. Just two friends being weirdly affectionate in front of their other friends."
Matt ignored him, reaching for his cane. "We’re close. That’s all."
Karen shot him a look. "You’re also full of shit."
Matt just smirked and walked out.
---
It was late by the time you made it to Matt’s apartment, balancing a takeout bag in one hand as you knocked. You didn’t have to wait long—there was the distinct sound of locks clicking before the door swung open.
"You didn’t text," Matt said, leaning against the doorframe.
"You didn’t either," you shot back, stepping inside without invitation. "So I figured you probably forgot to eat. Again."
Matt sighed, but there was a hint of a smile on his face as he closed the door behind you. "You don’t have to keep feeding me, you know."
"You don’t have to keep skipping meals, but here we are," you said, setting the takeout on the counter.
Matt chuckled, walking over to the couch and sinking into it. "How was work?"
"Same as always. How was court?"
"Long," he admitted, rubbing a hand over his face. "But we won."
"Then that calls for a celebration." You grabbed the food containers and joined him on the couch, handing him one.
Matt took it, his fingers brushing over yours briefly. "You really didn’t have to do this."
"Yeah, well, I was already out, and I know your fridge is probably empty."
Matt smirked. "You checked my fridge?"
You rolled your eyes. "Not today, but I have a pretty good guess. And considering you didn’t argue…"
He huffed out a quiet laugh. "Fine. You got me."
You both ate in comfortable silence, the familiar hum of the city filtering in through the window. When you were done, you leaned back against the couch, letting out a content sigh.
Matt shifted beside you, his arm resting along the back of the couch. It was second nature when you tucked yourself closer, your head resting against his shoulder.
"You tired?" he asked, voice low.
"Mm, a little," you admitted.
Matt's fingers absently played with the ends of your hair, a familiar and comforting habit.
"You could stay," he murmured.
"You always say that," you said, eyes closed.
"And you always do."
You huffed a soft laugh but didn’t argue.
---
The scent of coffee pulled you from sleep, warm and rich, mingling with the quiet sounds of the city outside. You cracked one eye open, blinking at the unfamiliar ceiling before remembering—Matt’s apartment.
You stretched, groggy but comfortable, the sheets soft and warm around you. The space beside you was empty, but the dip in the mattress told you he hadn’t been gone long.
Dragging yourself up, you padded toward the kitchen, yawning as you leaned against the counter. Matt stood by the stove, pouring coffee like he had all the time in the world. He was still in the sweats and T-shirt he’d worn to bed, hair slightly messy, looking impossibly at ease.
"Didn’t wake you, did I?" he asked, already knowing the answer.
"You and your super-hearing," you muttered, rubbing your eyes. "I would’ve kept sleeping if your coffee didn’t smell so damn good."
Matt smirked, reaching for a second mug. "I’ll take that as a compliment."
You grabbed the hem of his shirt, tugging lightly as you stepped closer, resting your forehead against his shoulder. He huffed out a quiet laugh, free hand settling at your hip like it was second nature.
"Tired?"
"Mm. Your couch is comfy, but your bed is better."
"You say that like you weren’t the one who crawled in."
"Yeah, yeah," you mumbled, peeling away just enough to steal his coffee and take a sip.
Matt didn’t even try to stop you. "I was going to give you your own."
"You’re too slow."
"Or maybe I just like it when you steal from me."
You smirked against the rim of the mug, not missing the way his hand lingered at your waist. Instead of calling him out, you took another sip and turned toward the fridge.
"Pretty sure you don’t have food in here," you said, opening the door.
"You’d be correct," Matt said, completely unbothered.
You sighed, grabbing one of his hoodies off the back of a chair and pulling it on over your sleep shirt. "Guess we’re getting breakfast, then."
Matt hummed, setting his mug down before reaching out, fingers brushing over the sleeve. "You know you keep stealing my clothes, right?"
"You gonna do something about it, Murdock?"
His lips twitched, like he was holding back a smile. "Not a thing."
You grinned, grabbing his cane and tossing it to him before heading for the door. "C’mon, Devil Boy. Breakfast is on me."
"Generous," Matt mused, following after you without hesitation. "Just don’t expect me to let you steal my coffee and my food."
You didn’t bother responding. He’d let you do both anyway.
---
You smoothed your hands down the fabric of your outfit, eyeing yourself in the mirror one last time. It wasn’t often that you got this dressed up—definitely not for work—but a Stark Industries gala demanded something a little more refined than your usual jeans and hoodie.
A knock at the door pulled you from your thoughts. When you opened it, Matt stood there, looking effortlessly put together in a sleek black suit. The tie was perfect, the hair just slightly tousled, and the way he carried himself made it impossible to tell that he wasn’t seeing any of it.
"You clean up nice, Murdock," you teased, grabbing your purse.
His lips quirked into a small smile. "You’re one to talk."
His voice had that subtle shift, the one that always came when he was taking you in—not with his eyes, but in the way only he could. He wasn’t just listening to your words; he was listening to the way your breath hitched slightly, the way your heartbeat quickened when he leaned in a fraction too close.
You cleared your throat, stepping back. "Ready?"
"Always," Matt said, offering his arm.
You rolled your eyes but took it anyway, his touch steady and warm as the two of you headed out.
---
The gala was exactly what you expected—sleek, extravagant, and filled with people who had more money than they knew what to do with. The chatter was loud, glasses clinking as servers weaved through the crowd with trays of expensive champagne.
Matt stuck close to your side, his fingers lightly grazing your arm as the two of you maneuvered through the room. It wasn’t like he needed to be guided, but the contact was easy, familiar.
"Remind me again why I agreed to this?" he murmured near your ear.
"Because I asked nicely," you replied, plucking two glasses from a passing tray and handing him one.
"Mm. That must’ve been it."
You huffed a quiet laugh, taking a sip. The atmosphere was buzzing, but Matt seemed relaxed—more than you expected.
"Surprised you’re handling this so well," you admitted. "Figured the noise would drive you insane."
He smirked, tilting his head slightly. "I’m filtering most of it out. But you—" He shifted just a little closer, lowering his voice. "You’re easy to focus on."
Your fingers tightened slightly around your glass. He did not just say that with a straight face.
Before you could come up with a decent response, someone approached—one of your higher-ups at Stark Industries. You smiled, exchanging pleasantries, introducing Matt with an easy, "This is my friend, Matt Murdock."
Your boss smiled politely before turning to Matt. "It’s great to meet you. And what do you do?"
Matt’s lips twitched like he was holding back amusement. "I’m a lawyer."
"Ah, an honest profession," your boss said, clearly impressed. "And you’re here as—?"
"Her date," Matt said smoothly, with absolutely no hesitation.
Your brain short-circuited for half a second. Your boss nodded approvingly before launching into some talk about Stark’s latest legal team, but you barely heard a word of it.
Matt, meanwhile, looked completely unfazed. Like he hadn’t just said something that made your stomach flip.
The conversation wrapped up, and as soon as your boss was out of earshot, you leaned in slightly, keeping your voice low.
"Date?"
Matt just smiled, lifting his glass. "Figured that was easier than explaining whatever this is."
You squinted at him, but he only took a sip of his drink, calm as ever.
Damn him.
---
At some point in the night, the gala turned into something more social—music playing, people moving toward the open dance floor. You weren’t much of a dancer, but Matt, of course, looked completely at ease, even without seeing the way people moved around him.
"You’re staring," Matt said suddenly, lips quirking.
You scoffed. "I am not."
"You are," he countered, setting his empty glass down. Then, as if it was the easiest thing in the world, he extended a hand. "Dance with me?"
You blinked. "You hate dancing."
"That’s not true."
"You avoid dancing."
Matt smirked. "And yet, I’m asking you."
You hesitated for half a second before sighing, setting your glass down and placing your hand in his. His fingers curled around yours, warm and firm as he pulled you toward the floor.
His other hand settled at your waist, light but certain. Yours rested against his shoulder, and for a moment, the world shrunk to just the two of you, the music humming around you as Matt led with an ease that shouldn’t have been possible.
"You’ve done this before," you murmured, impressed despite yourself.
"Few times," Matt admitted. "But this is the first time I’ve actually enjoyed it."
Your breath hitched, heart stuttering before you could stop it. And from the way his lips twitched, you knew he caught it.
"You’re doing that on purpose," you muttered.
"Doing what?"
"This. Being all—" You gestured vaguely.
Matt just smiled, his grip on you tightening ever so slightly. "Maybe."
You narrowed your eyes, but you didn’t pull away. If anything, you let yourself relax into him, your fingers idly tracing the fabric of his suit as the two of you swayed.
It didn’t feel friendly. It didn’t feel like some casual thing you could brush off. It felt like something else, something real, something you weren’t sure you were ready to name just yet.
And from the way Matt held you—careful, close, like he knew exactly what this was—he knew it, too.
---
It had been a few days since the gala, and life carried on as usual—at least, that’s what you told yourself.
You pushed open the door to Nelson, Murdock & Page, a takeout bag in one hand and a coffee in the other. The office was quiet, save for the sound of Foggy typing furiously at his keyboard and Karen flipping through a stack of papers at her desk.
"Tell me you guys have eaten," you said, setting the bag down with a thud.
Karen looked up first, lips twitching. "We have now."
Foggy groaned in relief, already reaching for the food. "You’re a lifesaver. Matt’s in his office, by the way."
You hummed in acknowledgment, grabbing the coffee before heading toward the glass-paneled room at the back. The door was slightly open, and Matt was exactly where you expected—leaning back in his chair, fingers pressed against his temple like he was nursing a headache.
"You look like hell," you said, stepping inside and closing the door behind you.
Matt’s lips quirked at the sound of your voice. "And yet, you still bring me coffee."
"Because I’m nice," you teased, setting it in front of him.
Matt reached for the cup, fingers brushing yours in the process. You ignored the way your pulse jumped at the contact, shifting to sit on the edge of his desk.
"You should eat, too," you said. "I brought—"
"You didn’t have to do that," Matt murmured, cutting you off.
You rolled your eyes. "You say that every time, and yet here I am, making sure you dont keel over from malnutrition."
Matt exhaled a quiet laugh, fingers curling around the coffee cup. "I appreciate it."
"You better."
There was a pause. The usual kind, the kind that never used to feel weighted—except, lately, it did.
Matt turned his head slightly, like he was studying you in that way he always did. "You okay?"
The question caught you off guard. "Me? You’re the one who looks like he’s been through hell and back."
Matt huffed. "Occupational hazard."
You folded your arms, watching him for a moment. His tie was slightly loosened, his shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows, and there was the faintest shadow of exhaustion under his eyes. The usual signs of Matt Murdock burning the candle at both ends.
You reached out without thinking, adjusting the knot of his tie like you had at the gala. He stayed perfectly still, letting you.
"You really need to take better care of yourself," you muttered, smoothing out the fabric before pulling back.
Matt caught your wrist before you could move too far, his thumb brushing over the inside of it—absent, thoughtless, but lingering.
"You do that enough for the both of us," he murmured.
Your breath hitched before you could stop it. His lips twitched.
Damn him.
You pulled your wrist free, shaking your head. "Eat your food, Murdock."
Matt smiled like he knew exactly what he was doing. "Yes, ma’am."
---
A knock at your door this late was never a good sign.
You barely had time to process it before a second, weaker knock followed. Frowning, you unlocked the door and swung it open—only for Matt to nearly collapse against the frame.
"Jesus, Matt—" You grabbed his arm, steadying him as he exhaled sharply. His suit was torn in places, blood staining the red fabric, his lip split, and a nasty bruise was already forming along his jaw.
"You gonna let me in, or…?" His voice was rough, strained, but still laced with that familiar teasing edge.
You didn’t answer, just hooked an arm under his and pulled him inside, kicking the door shut behind you. Without hesitation, you grabbed the first aid kit from the cabinet and shoved him down onto the couch.
Matt let out a quiet grunt as he sat, shifting carefully. "You don’t have to—"
"Shut up." You dropped to your knees in front of him, flipping the kit open. "Take off the suit."
"You don’t waste time, do you?"
"Matt."
"Alright, alright," he muttered, wincing as he pulled the top half of the suit down, exposing bruised ribs and a gash along his side. He also took off his helmet.
You inhaled sharply but said nothing. This wasn’t new—you’d patched him up more times than you could count. But something about tonight felt different.
The room was quiet as you worked, disinfecting the wound, pressing gauze to the worst of it. Your hands lingered, fingertips brushing over the edge of a bruise, tracing the uneven rise and fall of his breath.
Matt didn’t flinch, didn’t pull away. If anything, he leaned into it, just slightly.
"You’re mad at me," he murmured.
You scoffed, pressing the bandage to his ribs a little harder than necessary. He sucked in a sharp breath.
"Of course I’m mad, Matt," you snapped, voice low but edged with frustration. "You show up at my door looking like this, you don’t tell me where you were or how bad it was—do you even think about what it’s like for me? Sitting here, waiting for you to—"
Matt cut you off the only way he knew how.
He kissed you.
It wasn’t hesitant, wasn’t questioning. It was firm, certain—like he’d already decided long before this moment that it was inevitable.
Your breath caught, but you didn’t pull away. His hands found your face, fingers ghosting along your jaw, mapping you out the way only he could.
You exhaled against his lips, your own hands grabbing onto his bare shoulders, nails pressing just slightly into his skin, but Matt didn’t pull away. If anything, he tilted his head, deepening the kiss, his hands sliding from your jaw to the nape of your neck. His fingers tangled in your hair, his touch light, careful—like he wasn’t sure how much he could take before you stopped him.
You didn’t.
Instead, you kissed him back, frustration melting into something else entirely. The heat of it, the way he breathed against your lips like he needed this just as badly as you did—it sent your heart hammering in your chest.
Finally, you pulled back just enough to catch your breath, forehead brushing against his.
"Matt," you whispered, voice unsteady.
His hands stayed where they were, fingertips still curled against the base of your neck. "Tell me to stop," he murmured, voice low, rough. "And I will."
You exhaled, fingers flexing against his skin. "I don’t want you to stop," you admitted.
Matt’s breath hitched. You felt it more than you heard it—the way his chest rose sharply beneath your hands, the way his grip on you tightened like he was committing this moment to memory.
Then, as quickly as it started, his lips were on yours again—slower this time, deliberate.
You didn’t know how long you stayed like that, caught up in him, but when you finally pulled away, Matt’s hands lingered, his thumbs brushing over your skin like he was still grounding himself.
"You’re still hurt," you murmured, running a hand over his ribs, where fresh gauze was now taped in place.
Matt let out a quiet chuckle, tilting his head. "You’re the one distracting me."
"You kissed me, Murdock."
"Mm. And you kissed me back."
You huffed, rolling your eyes, but you didn’t move away. "You need rest."
Matt hummed, not agreeing but not arguing either. His hands finally dropped from your face, settling instead at your waist, like letting go completely wasn’t an option.
"You staying?" he asked, voice softer now.
“Yeah. Afterall, you are in my apartment.”
Matt let out a quiet hum, his hands still resting at your waist, fingers curling slightly against the fabric of your shirt. He wasn’t letting go, and you weren’t pulling away.
"You’re on the floor," he murmured.
"Yeah, no shit," you said, raising a brow.
His lips quirked. "Come up here."
You hesitated, but only for a second before shifting, moving to sit beside him on the couch. Matt adjusted just enough to make room, one arm draping along the back of the cushions. His other hand found your knee, thumb brushing absentmindedly against it.
"You’re ridiculous," you muttered, leaning your head back against the couch.
"How so?"
"You come here half-dead, I patch you up, and then instead of resting, you start—" You gestured vaguely between the two of you.
"Kissing you?" Matt supplied, smirking.
You shot him a look. "Distracting me."
Matt exhaled a quiet laugh, tilting his head in that way he always did when he was focused on you, listening. "Do you regret it?"
The question made your breath catch, but you didn’t look away. Instead, you reached over, your fingers trailing along the edge of his jaw, ghosting over the bruise forming there. Matt didn’t flinch. If anything, he leaned into your touch.
"No," you admitted softly.
His grip on your knee tightened just slightly. "Good."
You rolled your eyes, but a small smile tugged at your lips. "You do need rest, though."
Matt hummed, clearly not in a hurry to move. His fingers slid up, resting lightly against the curve of your hip. "Stay?"
You exhaled, shaking your head. "Matt, I live here."
"Right. Convenient." He smirked, thumb brushing against your skin.
You huffed, shifting to lean into him, resting your head against his shoulder. He didn’t hesitate, his arm slipping around you like it was second nature.
For a while, neither of you spoke. His breathing was steady, the warmth of him grounding, familiar. You could feel the tension in his muscles start to ease, his body finally giving in to exhaustion.
"You’re not going out again tonight, right?" you asked, voice low.
Matt didn’t answer right away, which was already an answer.
"Matt."
"I won’t," he murmured.
"You better not." You tightened your grip on his arm, just slightly. "Or I’m locking you in here next time."
Matt let out a quiet chuckle. "Terrifying."
"Damn right," you mumbled, letting your eyes slip shut.
He didn’t say anything else, just pulled you closer, his fingers brushing lightly against your arm.
And for once, Matt actually stayed still.
i had a lot of fun writing this - the idea of falling in love with your best friend is just so cute! (curses to my childhood self for not having a male best friend to fall in love with😭)
it may be slightly unclear but reader is an engineer at stark industries!
and, one more thing, i'd love to write more of these two! if you have any requests, send them in! i fear that that shower scene in that ddba trailer has taken up my mind... so don't be surprised if i write shower sex with matt soon...
