What is the most listened to artist in your music app of choice this month?
chappell roan
What song do you know all the lyrics to?
red wine supernova (and most of the songs on the rise and fall of a midwest princess)
What song do you pretend to know all the lyrics to and sing along to even though you don't?
kaleidoscope
If you were to be crowned Queen/King/Royalty of listening to a band or artist, who would that be? (Shoutout Misobot)
well ACTUALLY...i do have the chappell roan crown on the fic server
What band/artist surprises you the most on your frequently listened to artists?
none of them surprise me, i know exactly what i have on repeat 🥲
Favourite line from a song (or one you have been thinking about lately?
"i want this like a cigarette, can we drag it out and never quit' (guilty pleasure - chappell roan) - i just think its so clever and poetic and it gives ian and mickey in a way i cannot get over
Guilty pleasure band or song?
i dunno!! i guess maybe all my silly little nerd songs from or about video games
Okay let's talk fandom music:
Fave band or song you've discovered from a Fan Fic?
i've not discovered any from fanfics but i have gotten some fuckin amazing songs from gifsets!! petey is the one artist who i have become extremely invested in the most after seeing lyrics in a gifset.
Fave Fanfic Playlist?
hi its me, one of the outliers?? that doesnt really dive into peoples fic playlists sorry 🫠
Fave Gallavich song?
like songs officially from gallavich moments in the show? if so, then: pink + white
Do you listen to music recommended by the writer or an included playlist?
not really, however i will occasionally add songs to my shameless playlist that are mentioned in fics. like i definitely have listened to i believe in a thing called love like 8 million times because of CG!
What song do you think is Gallavich coded?
surely i can shove the gallavich puzzle piece into any song hole?? here's one: sad to breathe - the japanese house
What’s a bop you want to share with your mutuals today?
do i rec chappell when she's already spreading through the fandom like wildfire at this point?? 😆 here have something old:
circles - soul coughing
and now i shall tag some nuggets if you would like to play. if you would like to pass then please accept some awkward fingerguns from across the room ilu 👉👉 @heymacy @michellemisfit @tanktopgallavich @too-schoolforcool @darlingian @heymrspatel @thepupperino @metalheadmickey @softmick @callivich @vintagelacerosette @gallawitchxx @whatwouldmickeydo @mickeysgaymom @suzy-queued @crossmydna @gardenerian @mmmichyyy @the-rat-wins @sam-loves-seb @blue-disco-lights @sickness-health-all-that-shit @samantitheos @wehangout @squirrel-fund @loftec @iansw0rld @transmickey @tsuga-of-mars @lee-ow @ardent-fox @rereadanon @palepinkgoat @themarchg1rl @thisdivorce @sleepyfacetoughguy @purplemagpie @mikhailoisbaby ✨

I cannot stress enough how much everyone should watch Starkid’s A VHS Christmas Carol if you haven’t seen it yet. It’s pretty short, only about 45 minutes, and it’s truly one of the best adaptations of A Christmas Carol that I’ve ever seen.
No, seriously. I think it has even surpassed The Muppets Christmas Carol for me. That has been my favorite Christmas movie since I was a child. My mom and sister and I used to watch it every Christmas Eve. I still love it dearly and it is an amazing adaptation that I’ll defend to my death, but you guys. You guys. A VHS Christmas Carol is just THAT GOOD.
It’s done in the style of 80s music/videos, which is delightful. It’s an opera, so it’s all sung through, which I love. And it’s so good!
Let me enumerate the ways. Spoilers to follow. (Can you spoil A Christmas Carol? Once a story becomes public domain does that exempt it from spoiling? Idk, lol. Spoilers for the show, anyway. Also for Avatar: The Last Airbender. …I promise there’s a path.)
1) Bah Humbug! - Song number one and it goes hard right from the start. It is everything an opening number should be. Dynamic, sets the tone, and an incredible fucking bop. The interactions between Scrooge and Fred and Scrooge and Bob are done so well, too. You so quickly get a sense of their characters. Obviously we know their characters because this is a story that has been told many a time before, but it does it so well that you would immediately get them even if you were an alien who had never in your existence been exposed to A Christmas Carol in any capacity. That’s impressive to me. It’s not relying on the familiarity of the story to do its character work.
2) 3 Spirits - I love the tone of this song. This is a Marley with true regret and pain who is absolutely pleading with Scrooge to take the chance he’s being given. It’s less “scared straight” and more, “I need you to understand this like you’ve never understood anything before.” Marley becomes a character in his own right as opposed to merely a backdrop for Scrooge to react to. That’s a theme with this adaptation. Characters who are pretty flat in a lot of adaptations seem so much more like real people in this one. Also, whoever decided to cast Meredith as Marley here is a fucking genius. She’s so goddamn talented and she really shines here. The emotion, the weight. Gah. Beautiful. The interplay between Marley and Scrooge is incredible as well; these are two insanely talented performers breathing a new life into tried and true characters, and you really feel the relationship between them.
3) I’m The Ghost - Christmas Past is so pointed and snarky and incredible, making Scrooge come to certain realizations. “Huh, little boy left all alone. Oh, your sister died so young. Didn’t she have a son though? Why are the employees so happy, this party didn’t cost much? Thinking of something? Okay, last stop, buckle up, it’s all your own doing.” I love it so much.
4) That Scrooge - You guys. You guys. They’ve done what I assumed was impossible. They’ve done what even the Muppets couldn’t. It’s a Scrooge-Belle breakup song that isn’t the most unbelievably boring and bland thing you’ve ever heard in your life. Belle is a fucking person! She has a personality! She’s very clearly stating her case, that he’s changed and she doesn’t like it and does he have anything to say? No? Okay, bye! THE EMOTION IN THIS SONG. Scrooge starts singing not just with her but to her! All the things he didn’t say before! And then he starts singing angrily about/at his past!self for being an idiot! You actually FEEL THINGS about this relationship. It was a deep love and losing it super fucked him up! I have never before seen Belle/Scrooge done as well as this one (1) song handles it.
5) Christmas Electricity - Get ready to have this song stuck in your head for ten thousand years. This song is, I believe, the standard classical definition of “a fuckin’ bop.” It’s so high energy and exciting, you really can understand how Scrooge gets so caught up in it himself. You also see more of Fred in this song and, again, he’s a person! He has specific motivations for why he keeps reaching out to Scrooge. Corey’s Fred is hands down one of the best performances of this character full stop. He took what is usually a bit, side character and made him a full human with understandable thoughts and feelings. They gave the Fred-Scrooge relationship such incredible emotional weight because of it. I think that’s one of my favorite aspects of this adaptation.
6) Priceless - Here we see the Cratchits enjoying their Christmas with an incredibly sweet song about having little but feeling like they have a lot. I really like the way this song feels a bit cheesy (goes with the whole 80s vibe) but they also feel like a real family with some silliness and some sweetness and Bob’s wife having very strong opinions about Scrooge that he’s too polite for. Also “listen to this key change out of the bridge” goddamn just show off constantly how freaking talented this entire cast is, why don’t you.
7) The Final Ghost - I probably have too much to say about this song. It’s my favorite, which considering this entire show is pitch fucking perfect, is really saying a lot. Dylan Saunders is truly one of the most talented performers I’ve ever seen, and his Scrooge is so, so good. It really shines through here. His interactions with Christmas Future show him mirroring Bob from earlier (he has a line that’s almost an exact quote of a line from Bob in Bah Humbug!), correcting himself, and trying to be respectful/humble. Subtle displays of emotional growth even before he gets to the truly scary parts. The song is of course a darker tone, as is correct for this part of the narrative, perfectly setting up the finale song. We get Scrooge overhearing about a funeral no one cares about, the same man being robbed after death, and this death bringing actual happiness to people. Throughout it all so far Christmas Future only speaks in a wordless melody, as is apt. Scrooge asks for tenderness connected to death and is shown the Cratchits mourning Tiny Tim, which breaks him, and he asks who the dead man was from earlier. Still wordless, Christmas Future leads him to a cemetery, and that wordless melody perfectly transforms into an eerie, ethereal, “Ebenezer Scrooge.” The fucking amount of sheer EMOTION Dylan packs into Scrooge pleading for his soul, that he is changed, and the final bit of narration… fuck, you guys, it’s so good. I love all of the “scene” parts of this song so much. It all builds so perfectly.
7a) The narrator. - This isn’t a specific song, I just want to call out how excellent the narrator is through the whole show and how perfectly the narration ties the whole show together. It’s one of those things where it goes unnoticed because it’s so perfect, but if it were bad you would definitely notice. You need it to be there and understated or a lot a falls apart, but it can be such hard balance to strike. This show nails it.
8) Christmas Day - The finale! And what a finale it is! The energy is a perfect contrast to the song before it as Scrooge delights in being alive and having time to make things right. His joy is palpable as he goes about his day, buying Bob a huge turkey, making an incredible donation to the charity he blew off the day before, and showing up at Fred’s. Guys. This scene. Especially when I watch the live, but even sometimes just via the soundtrack, this scene just fucking perfectly, beautifully guts me. You know how in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Zuko has to go on his whole narrative arc to eventually join the right side, and along the way sort of betrays his Uncle Iroh, aka the only good father figure he’s ever had, because he’s a traumatized teenager, and eventually he meets back up with him and starts stumbling out an apology and Iroh just sweeps him up in a hug without a word, and you sob because it’s perfect? That is the energy present in this, what, 15-second scene, just this incredible emotional buildup and payoff accomplished in a scant 45-minute runtime. It’s truly wondrous. The finale, as all true finales should, calls back musically to previous character beats, and ends on the perfect bookend to the opening number. It’s just so, so immensely satisfying.
Tl;dr - this musical has made me feel more Christmas-y than I have in a long, long time, and I have listened to little else in terms of music since I watched it two weeks ago. (It was literally the only music I had listened to since then until right now, and that’s only because I’m in a van on a road trip to my sister-in-law’s for Christmas. While I would have been perfectly content to listen to this soundtrack on repeat for the entire 8-hour drive, I also recognize that the four other people in this van do not have my particular flavor of hyperfixated ADHD brain and probably would not appreciate that, heh. Thus I played it once and then other music. Compromise!)
But yes. Seriously. It’s so good. Gah. Go watch it!

“Cease and desist, bitch!”
News flash friends: job hunting is still terrible. Like, four months in and it’s still the worst. I finished two interview loops recently and I’m waiting to hear back and I have two others I’m trying to get through and it’s all hurry up and wait.
But then Netflix told me that GIRLS5EVA was coming to the platform, complete with a new season, and I got soooo excited.
I’m sure no one has heard of this show, it was born on Peacock and it’s a Tina Fey joint but there’s definitely a super specific audience for it which is, basically, me.
Were you born in the 80’s/early 90’s? Did you love all the random girl groups/boybands? Are you now barreling toward 40 and it’s just really depressing and terrible? Then Girls5eva is also for you.
Wherein, four millennial women decide to reunite their early 2000’s girl group after their one-hit wonder is sampled on a new hip hop track.
It’s hilarious. And really specific. And starring SARA BAREILLES who in real life is an incredible musician. Y’all remember “Gravity”? No? Even though it was featured in a Community episode where Annie cuts to a montage because she’s  trying to convince everyone that she and Jeff have had a ‘will-they-won’t-they’ thing going on all year? “Gravity” is the theme of that montage!
While you’re checking out Girls5eva, also listen to Sara Bareilles. The girl is a true fucking talent.
ALSO, Busy Philipps. I LOVE Busy Philipps. And have loved her since Dawson’s freakin’ Creek and then AGAIN in Cougartown.
(Side rant - Cougartown really is a wonderful show. Terrible name, but honestly incredibly funny and there are a ton of good running jokes and it’s just fun as hell. Courteney Cox got shagged on that one, it really is a gem.)
Anyway. There are 3 seasons and it follows the ladies valiantly trying to make a comeback while dealing with being normal people again after their brief shot at fame in the early 2000’s. Which, I think we all remember fondly but was actually a pretty gross time and the show makes sure you remember that - it was not great for women by any means and it’s still not great now but Girls5eva make it work. And it’s endearing.
And y’all, some of the songs are a fuckin’ bop. BPE? Aka “Big Pussy Energy” (the club remix) is the anthem we all need right now. “Kick down the doors no locks / I don't need a key / Eyes down here, yeah, I'm the centerpiece / Animal queendom feline synergy / Kickin’ down the doors, big pussy energy!” That shit gets you in the right frame of mind. I need more semi-cheesy female anthems in my life and I’m pretty sure you do too.
Honestly, the show is really just about the fact that life doesn’t have to end after your 20’s, you can keep going after your dreams even if they’re ridiculous. And you can balance your regular shit while you do it. And you don’t need a man to define who you are. And you can leave toxic relationships if you need to. And you can grow as a person. And you can still be a crazy bitch sometimes and your friends will support you.
There’s a lot going on, and it’s all wonderful. Honestly, we need more shows about olderish female friends, with a touch of insanity. I don’t want regular female friends, I want batshit female friends doing ridiculous things.
Also, lastly, Wickie Roy is a fucking icon. In a weird way because she’s struggling to live in a normal world and she refuses to compromise and she’s an absolute nutbag but in the best way possible.
Basically, Girls5eva is making me feel better about my life. If they can get back into pop music, I can get myself another boring job and BPE is gonna help me get it done.
“Momentum yeah / um it’s our moment / we’re contenders…”

Heres some games ive been playing:
Mario Wonder is very cool and a fun mario game, dont think its winning any serious awards though.
Got back to playing Super Lesbian Animal RPG, if you are any one of those adjectives i suggest checking it out. Cute and emotional and really funny and epic swaggy. i think theres a demo on their website also.
Mario RPG remake is fun. i found the lack of a more detailed soundscape to be odd, no text noises and some enemies look like they should be making sounds but dont. i played the original like 4 years ago and thought it was fine, this feels more fun to play than that.
New Warioware was a little disappointing. No silly toys to unlock and motion controls were a little unresponsive at points.
I played a little bit of Who's Lila, which is like... a horror puzzle game about controlling your face? Its SO weird and so confusing and i got lost and kinda just dropped it. No idea about anything at all in this game.
My friend convinced me to play Dont Starve Together. A lot of "What the fuck do i do to live" and then "Ok everything i do makes it harder to survive". Started getting fun like 10 hours in once i started understanding things a bit more.
Deltarune Chapter 3 was alright, Stylep Groove was maybe my favorite song even though the fuckin channel switching puzzle was awful. Pierre my beloved....
Im not good at thinking, but despite that I decided to start playing FEZ. I havent gotten to anything really puzzley yet but so far its charming.
Other hyperfixation i have rn is Keyboards. Im looking into getting a pretty custom keyboard that sounds nice and feels good. Im still researching switches, ordered some test ones today! Dont know what im gonna do about a case though, but i know i need a hotswappable one because i REFUSE to solder anything. (if you have any suggestions please let me know :) )
And uhhh think thats about it WAIT! Music recommendations. Very into Vylet Pony rn, and EX-LYD released a new single thats pretty nice. Also slowly going through Patricia Taxxon's "TECHDOG", which goes from "strange, slightly overwhelming noise that are sometimes bops" to "i feel like i just jacked my brain into a computer and god is speaking to me through it".
alright thats it. have fun today :)

Got tagged by @hocuschlocus to shuffle my main playlist and post the first 10 songs. For the record, my playlist is titled "Bops, Bangers, and Breakdowns," and shuffling it is very funny sometimes because of the juxtaposition.
1. "Cowboys from Hell" by Pantera
Fucking iconic riff (even though Dimebag's tone sucks let's be real).
2. "Riders on the Storm" by The Doors
I love electric piano, and the intro to this song is, again, iconic.
3. "Feel Good Inc." by The Gorillaz
I will admit this is the only song of theirs that I know but I am such a sucker for a good bassline.
4. "Thank You for the Venom" by My Chemical Romance
This riff. Like, listen, I'm into far more complex subgenres of metal and I've learned some tricky riffs in my day. This fucking riff took so much practice but I can finally play it (mostly).
5. "Still Waiting" by Sum41
Just a good, angry punk track. I am, in fact, still waiting for the world to stop hating, and I'm still pissed about it.
6. "Tits of Glass" by Trust Fund OZU
This one's a fuckin BANGER there's a lot of hyper pop I'm not super into but Faye adds prog metal influence to it (she used to be the drummer for Thank You Scientist).
7. "Contraband (featuring Courtney LaPlante)" by Make Them Suffer
This song is heavy, has a verse from my second favorite vocalist (I'm sorry but Daniel Tompkins from Tesseract is still my number one), and ends with a pretty sick breakdown 👍
8. "DA DA DANCE" by Babymetal
This one's basically a dance song played on a 9-string guitar. And it has a breakdown. I have simple tastes lol
9. "Under Pressure" by Logic
I'm not into many rappers (which I need to fix) but I really like Logic.
10. "Shout" by Tears for Fears
This song fuckin rules and I want to do a cover of it because I don't need to shout I need to scream.
@artemisstratus @chroniccr0w @chaos--themralds @chiyana I want to hear the shit you're into

I listened to every song named after current f1 drivers (so you dont have to)
Max: some of these are hype songs a la pitstop boys, and most of the ones that aren't are pretty odd lowkey. A couple are literally just his entire life story rhymed and set to a beat which gives me Homer vibes so that's kinda cool. Some are...kinda weird. 6/10 Special mention to Max verstappen by Abad 33. Man wrote a biographical rap, amazing
Checo: the same 3 bands that write all the max stadium chants are also writing checo ones which is kinda sweet! a lot of these are directly about him rather than namedropping him--he has a higher ratio of these than other drivers. Also not just rap/dance tracks, some are more traditional Mexican music which is awesome. Overall no skips here, 9.8/10 Special Mention: Checo Perez by Alan Y Roberto
Charles: most of these are along the lines of "im sexy and fuckin cool and i feel like charles leclerc" but the vibes are there. have heard at least 3 that reference Max or make ver-stop-him type puns. Also several modern epic poetry vibes and a few kinda slow ones, very him. 8.2/10 Special Mention: Charles Leclerc by SAE. The one by Alexander Lewis is also kind of a mood but a little more hype
Carlos: some really lowkey beats here, kinda chill not too aggressive. The only issue here is I can't tell if theyre about him or his dad and they're more namedrops than bios so it's hard to tell. 6/10 for that reason but special mention for Carlos Sainz by teme
Lewis: can confirm Lewis Hamilton by geezy is a mood lowkey but based on the line "swear i drive like a ferrari, I'm all about the wins" I think maybe geezy does not watch formula 1. These are good though! Lot of bops in here. a LOT of songs abt this man. 9.5/10 Special mention for being the only one on this list to have a song he sang in, shoutout to Pipe feat XNDA
Pierre: he actually has a couple but some of them are weird as hell. Weirdly enough every one I've found is in English, maybe because Gasly is really easy to rhyme in English? not sure. 7/10. Special mention to Pierre Gasly by FeldaLeaf, featuring the classic line "Pierre Gasly driving the Tauri, bitch I'm the alpha I got people coming for me"
Lando: actually thought he'd have more but he only has a couple. One is a hype song and the other is his roller coaster one. Overall fun but not hits. 5/10 Special mention: Let's Go Lando! by Pitstop Boys
Valtteri: has quite a few which all have car noises and radio clips and are pretty heavy/hard rock. These feel like they maybe came from the Mercedes era because they're just generally full of rage but i kind of love that for him. 7.6/10 Special Mention: Bottas by Arcangel, which is only slightly about him but is heavy as hell
Fernando: please just go listen to El Nano by Melendi, this is the happiest fucking song ive ever heard in my entire life. It's from the Renault era and it sounds so 2000s and i had to translate the lyrics but theyre SO cute. when he gets in his renault? Magic alonso!!!!! <33333 he honestly has the best music so im giving him 15/10 hands down but please know its mainly because of El Nano
anyone who was not listed isn't on here because I found no songs named after them, very sorry (parody songs written from the perspective of certain drivers not included). Takeaways from this exercise: there is a lot of bad self-produced rap on spotify, some of it is pretty good, and in general people are writing music about this sport like its the fuckin Iliad or something which I think rules. In conclusion, thank you for reading and please stream El Nano

Today's mix:
Wetmusik - Mix Up Volume 1 - Live @ Storey Hall by Simon Digby & Will E Tell 2000 Techno / Tribal Techno
Big advantage of being producers and record label owners who also happen to be DJs is that you can lace your own sets with all the stuff that you and your roster have been working on and then gauge a crowd's reaction to it all before officially releasing any of it to the public. That whole tedious process of having to send your music to *other* DJs in hopes that they themselves like it enough to play it is completely eliminated, because you're your own DJ in this situation. No middle man, no waiting on the whims of someone else's taste; you have full control from start to finish! 😎
And such was the case with this live recorded set from February of 2000 by Simon Digby & Will E Tell, a pair of techno dudes from Melbourne, Australia who were running a label at the time called Wetmusik, and were plying their appreciative crowd on the campus of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology with a blend of a bunch of  ground-pounding heaters of their own that they hadn't released, along with some great stuff from people who weren't on Wetmusik as well.
But be forewarned: this mix really isn't for the faint of heart. It may have some comedown moments that break the tension and serve as a bit of a brief cleanse—only for things to ramp up again—but for the better part of 70+ minutes, this is relentlessly percussive techno that you better have a couple Advil on hand to take once the set's over. Rattlingly primal shit with some touches of dystopian futurism, all soaked in a constant thooming that simultaneously beats against your chest and vibrates the soles of your feet.
And honestly, this type of hyper-intense techno isn't necessarily always my favorite in the world, but if you can handle all this pummeling percussion, you'll find that this is a style that can really end up yielding all kinds of novelly nutty, thick slabs of rhythm, and Simon and Will have a whole lot of it in store here, which ultimately makes this mix worth a listen, even if there's a good chance that you might be seeing stars afterwards 🫨.
So the best rhythmically unique selections here come courtesy of Will E Tell himself, with his tribally thumping "Teu Teu Haka" as well as "Strange Behaviour," which has manic claps, lots of wood block reverb, and a respirating bit of noise that's hard to describe, but manages to hold it all  together.
youtube
Favorite track on here of all, though, is one that's not a Wetmusik original and, therefore, is also far less likely to make you feel like eggs being beaten and whisked around in a bowl: the y2k-era techno standard and masterpiece that is Andrew McLauchlan's "Love Story." Around a quarter-century ago, this Scotsman, who's not really known for much else other than this total bop, managed to catch lightning in a bottle with it. A dusty and obscure 1970s rendition of a Brazilian song gets set to some modern dancefloor techno, and out of that combination comes pure fuckin' magic—a wholly unbeatable tune with a delightfully catchy Portuguese-language chorus that'll linger in your head long after the song itself is over. If you've heard your fair share of early 2000s techno sets, then you're already likely to be familiar with this track, but if that whole era ended up passing you by, you absolutely must listen to this song. One of the greatest pieces of dance music ever made, as far as I'm concerned.
youtube
But, yeah, the vast majority of this set from this enterprising Aussie pair still more or less teeters on the edge of my own techno sanity, because of how hard and heavy it tends to be, but the experience can still be a gratifying one if the way I've described it here doesn't actually feel too dissuading to you. Plenty of well-crafted and rhythmically inventive techno to be heard here, but only if you really think you've got the stomach for it.
Listen to the full mix here.
Highlights:
Will E Tell - "Taha Ua Tolu Fa" Ben Long & Umek - "Audio 16" Simon Digby & Will E Tell - "Unfinished Business" Ben Long - "Syndrome" Thomas Schumacher - "Shelford Rd (Devilfish Remix)" Will E Tell - "Teu Teu Haka" Umek - "Lanicor" Simon Digby & Will E Tell - "Moving Wallz" Umek - "Mamomit" Will E Tell - "Strange Behaviour"* Alpharisc - "From Hell" Will E Tell - "Dipped in Pitch" Alpharisc - "Playing With Words" Joel Mull - "The Mole (Ben Sims Remix)" Oliver Ho - "Awakening the Sentient" Andrew McLauchlan - "Love Story"

Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess first listen though!!
Femininomenon: I am not 100% sure but i think that femininomenon, got a new mix (the music video is deleted/unlisted now, plus a few weeks back i listened to the music video and the track on apple music side by side and the one on apple music was pretty clearly different), it has more oomph now, but it still retains the charm of the original. as always I love this song!
Red Wine Supernova: I love this song to death, its so fun the backing vocals are muah muah muah "put her canine teeth in the side of my neck!!" the final "i don't care that you're a stoner" is just muah, beautiful delivery, loves it!
After Midnight: YES SOFT POP!!!!! aughhhhh the delivery on all the lyrics is beautifull, chappell said "chaos bisexual anthem" and i LOVE it!!!! when the tracklist was released i was a slight bit miffed that so many of the tracks were previously released, but hearing the quality of what was kept for the album i am less pressed.
Coffee: live cassie reaction
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
im fine, im fine, my heart hurts, but im fine. this song is. wow, makes me hurt, i love it "I'll meet you for coffee, Cause if we have wine, You'll say that you're sorry, I know that's a lie" oh god and the final chorus, oh my heart cant take this.
Casual: I love this song, but hearing it after coffee, just makes it so much MORE, like coffee is the aftermath of the relationship, but causal is what the relationship WAS, and GOD IT HURTS, still a bop tho, the ending few lines always get me, like i will yell the bride but i SOB the last few verses "I fucked you in the bathroom when we went to dinner, Your parents at the table, you wonder why I'm bitter, Bragging to your friends I get off when you hit it, I hate to tell the truth but I'm sorry dude you didn't, I hate that I let this drag on so long, now I hate myself, I hate that I let this drag on so long, you can go to hell" but my heart
Ultra Graphic Super Modern Girl: OH MY GOD YESSSSSS "fugly jeans!!" i though that would be the bridge, but it being the opening is SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!! OH MY GOD, this is how chappell charts, if this doesn't crack top 50 im rioting!!!!!!!
HOT TO GO!: I LOVE this song so much, for months before its release i'd listen to love recordings of it, and it is so infectious, chappell you are a genius!! this song makes ME want to be a cheerleader in a mid 2010s chick flick with heavy homoerotic undertones.
My Kink Is Karma: This song is for girls who watched a few too many "shipname yandere edits" in middle school, its just so good, the music video is so fun.
Picture You: yee haw??? YEE HAW???? oh those strings??? hellOOOOO??? This song is for girls who think too much about men who do not think about them, and i respect that because i am one of those girls.
Kaleidoscope: this song makes me cry so much, i can't really write anything about it i love it but i will cry if i think to much about it.
Pink Pony Club: What can i say about this song that hasn't been said before, it is amazing, i love every second, I especially love the bridge, especially the last line "i can hear your southern drawl a thousand miles away saying-" leading into the more striped down start of the last chorus. muah muah muah amazing!!!
Naked in Manhattan: the fact that Chappell had never kissed a girl when she wrote this, is just muah 10/10 lmao, seriously i love this so much. "wont you fuckin touch me?? i just want to touch you!!"
California: I love this song so fucking much, seriously its so good, it makes me happy, its just muah so good, i love how its depressing. But like yeah, i have never signed to a label at 17 and moved across country just be be dropped from my label and move back to my small town and work at a drive though while effectively looking at my dreams and hopes in the rearview mirror. but like i have felt like my failures are affecting my parents more then me, so.....
Guilty Pleasure: okay a slow one, i'm liking this resurgence of pop records ending on an introspective slow note. NOPE NOT A SLOW SONG WHAT HUH what just happened??? "I want this like a cigarette, lets drag this out and never quit" OH MY GOD IS THAT COWBELL??? wait no its electronic, this is so fucking fun!!! I love me a good 80s inspired bop about sapphic lust!!
Conclusion, this Album is amazing, and i really hope Chappell receives the accolades that she rightfully deserves for this piece of pure pop perfection, it is amazing, and I know exactly why Dan Nigro started an entire imprint for Chappell, seriously, this is an amazing project, and it slots so nicely into Dan's catalogue of amazingly produced albums. I won't be able to make it to chappels naked in north america tour stops near me, so I am now waiting patiently to see if i get off the waitlist for guts tour tickets so I can see her open for Liv (I really hope her and Chappell sing lacy together for the dates where chappell is opening)
anyways right now my rankings of the new tracks are
ultra graphic super modern girl
after midnight
guilty pleaure
coffee
picture you
(im just not in my sad song era, mkay)

suna is a huge the 1975 fan. problematic frontman aside, their songs are absolute bangers, and he always has them playing on the speakers to make the chores more bearable.
it’s the off-season, and he has a whole two weeks to himself which he spends in his boyfriend’s apartment in downtown osaka. osamu had been pretty busy as of late, what with the second onigiri miya branch opening in shinsaibashi, and it shows with the state his apartment is in. he’s generally a tidy person, but lately the dirty clothes have been piling up in the hamper, washed clothes sit outside in the balcony for days, and a thin layer of dust has begun to settle on the furniture. suna, being the thoughtful boyfriend that he is, decides to dedicate the entire afternoon doing some spring cleaning, busting out the vacuum, loading the washing machine, and folding his and osamu’s clothes. if he uses the broom as a mic stand to perform a few songs in the living room, no one has to know.
He’s just finished vacuuming under the couch when his favorite song from the latest album comes on.
Heartbeat, is coming on so strong
Oh, if you don’t stop, I’m gonna need a second one
He’s about to proceed to the kitchen, but then the chorus comes on and he can’t help it. The lyrics are repetitive but really catchy, so he abandons the vacuum in a corner in favor of full on bopping and wiggling his hips as he belts out the words he’s memorized by heart:
Yeah, it’s simple and it goes like this
I’m in love with you, I- I- I- I- I-
I’m in love with you, I- I- I- I- I-
He’s so into it that he doesn’t hear the front door opening, doesn’t notice Osamu toeing off his shoes in the genkan with an amused grin on his face as he watches Suna’s mini-concert. Watching his boyfriend like this, singing and dancing in his living room without a single care in the world… he could get used to this.
I’m in love with you, I- I- I- I- I-
Suna twists around to find Osamu leaning against the wall, arms crossed as he watches him with nothing but fondness in his eyes.
I’m in love with you, I- I- I- I- I-
Suna points to him at “you”, shuffling over to his boyfriend while still very much bopping to the beat, and he takes Osamu’s hands in his to pull him to the center of the stage (the middle of the living room).
I’m in love with you, I- I- I- I- I-
He continues to wiggle his boyfriend and Osamu finally relents, chuckling and singing the last few lines of the chorus with Suna, never breaking eye contact:
I’m in love with you, I- I- I- I- I-
I’m in love with you, I- I- I- I- I-
“In love with you,” Suna murmurs the last line as he loops his arms around his boyfriend’s neck. Osamu immediately places his hands on Suna’s waist, leaning in to bump their foreheads together.
“Fuckin’ sap,” he teases.
“Hey, I was simply singing along, you just happened to walk in mid-performance.” Suna flashes his own cheeky grin at him.
Osamu chuckles. “Whatever ya say, Rin.” He kisses the tip of his nose because he likes how it scrunches up immediately after.
“Fuckin’ sap,” Suna echoes as he pulls away. “C’mon now, you’re just in time to take out the laundry while I finish up here.”
But Osamu holds him in place. “How ‘bout ya keep doin’ yer mini-concerts here instead, for your number one fan?”
“What do you mean?” Suna asks, confused.
“Move in with me,” Osamu says as he pulls Suna closer. “I wanna keep comin’ home to this, to you.”
Suna gasps. Well he certainly wasn’t expecting that, even though they’ve been dating for close to two years already.
Flustered, he says the first thing that pops into his mind. “I’m gonna start charging you for my talent fees, then.”
Osamu lets out a laugh, eyes crinkling shut. “S’alright with me, as long as I get to wake up to yer face every morning from now on.”
Fuckin’ sap, Suna thinks again, but instead he leans forward to seal his answer with a kiss.

Okay Indigo, hit me.... show me what you got.
Closing out his 20s with a little angsty emo alt-pop R&B electric rock, Namjoon presents Indigo. Independent. Indulgent. Ingenious.
Tumblr media
Though I was unfamiliar with the Korean individuals collabing with Namjoon on this record, I did take a "pre-listen" to some of their work before Indigo's release so I could be familiar with their style.
Of course I knew who Erykah Badu is. Though very talented and respected musically, she is not without her own controversies.
And I know Anderson .Paak. I am a huge fan of Silk Sonic, his Grammy winning duo with Bruno Mars who I am also a big fan of.
So these are just my opinions after listening and learning the lyrics. These are my interpretations of the vibe of the songs...
Yun. It is hard hitting first-out-the-gate and I can understand why Joon put this song first. It's a statement: Fuck you, imma do what I want.
Tumblr media
Still Life, definitely love the R&B groove, love Anderson's vocals and the improvisation: "Joon: Shit happens in life...Paak: it's gonna be what it's gonna be brothah, you just have to do your thang." "Y'all can't lock me in a frame. I'm still life." The clever wordplay. A "still life" is typically defined as a tableau of inanimate objects such as flowers, fruit and other objects, arranged and then painted or photographed and framed. A still life. A moment in time. But in this song, I am seeing it meant as I am still LIFE, as in still living...you can't put me in a frame because I am living and breathing. So my take is this song says "let's keep it moving, never stay still, live life and don't let them define you by one frame of an image or one point or moment in time."
Tumblr media
All Day, yay finally experiencing TABLO, great song, nice fast beat. TABLO's delivery reminds me of Eminem... personally, I am not a big fan of Eminem, but in this song, that type of vocal from TABLO works well. The beat will probably get this song added to my "walking playlist." WE GOT DYNAMITE IN OUR DNA! Might be my fave song off the album.
Tumblr media
Forg_tful, an acoustic, laid back vibe, especially with the whistling... sort of John Mayer-ish? Very folk music-y and right up in the middle of Sawol's music genre kool-aid. Makes me want to order a caramel latte with a touch of almond milk at an independently owned hipster coffee shop. And I don't even like almond milk.
Tumblr media
Closer, nice little bubbly intro segues to smooth urban R&B. Love Mahalia's vocals. So. Most of this song is sung in English. Paul Blanco has a few Korean words and that's it. The lyrics are very sensual. I find it conveniently uncontroversial that it is Mr. Blanco singing about 'when our lips lock' and 'making her body go diddy diddy bop'. The lyric: "but you run away like a fish"... that one sticks in my head because it is so visual! I saw a small fish get scared and scurry away! Great song.
Tumblr media
Change pt. 2, unexpected electric riffs. Interesting that this song is entirely in English. I wonder who he is singing about? Harsh! Lol! Since its in English, it might be about the western music industry–as we know, they have to be spoken to in their language or they "just don't get it". Or it might be about a past significant other who did him wrong. "Some day a great grief will come for you." (That Miss Karma, she's the biggest fuckin' bitch I know.) "That's all I can say to you." (mic drop).
Tumblr media
Lonely, I'm so fuckin lonely... super emo alt pop rocker. Joon made this song and these lyrics sound like some sort of weekly Top 40 groove-fest banger. The hook is an earworm in the making. "I'm fuckin' lonely....so fuckin' lonely." And the bridge is big and awesome. This song is a masterpiece of chart topping geniusness songwriting.
Tumblr media
Hectic, with all its bright notes and beat, the gist of the lyrics say 'I been working my ass off, nothing glamorous about it, and people still say the same shit. Why am I doing this? What am I chasing? If doing this THIS way is a pain, how can I do it different?
Tumblr media
Wild Flower... a big sonic, soaring, epic type song. Youjeen's big vocals and lyrics give me Katy Perry Firework vibes. The MV visuals help push the "big" to me. It's just a big song. Big Namjoon asking "what is this big life I have? what does it mean?" The visuals of him standing on top of the mountain and being able to see the entire world and it's a dawning day...not gonna lie, I did tear up. Seeing Joonie like this, expressing his lyrics visually in a music video touches my heart for him. The stage surrounded by Army... him standing and then laying in the field of purple flowers (also Army), it's very emotionally stirring. But I have something to tell Joon... as time goes by, one still searches for who they are and sometimes we never really understand who we are. All we can do is live our truths as authentically as possible.
Tumblr media
No. 2, what a nice closing song to wrap it up. Don't look back anymore. There's nothing to prove. You've done your best. No lookin' back, no. The album ends and I'm smiling.
Tumblr media
Like everyone else, my heart swells with pride. Over all, the lyricism is off the charts of course. Joonie is a wordsmith. Thank you Kim Namjoon/RM for putting your soul out there, sharing your emotions and thoughts with us in such a poetically lyrical way. Well done.
My disclaimers: I am not a music expert. These are just my personal opinions. But I do have impeccable taste in music. 💜
