Character Info

Constance is very confident and opinionated, never scared to say what's on her mind. She also gets into trouble fairly regularly due to her reckless nature and differing opinions. Unlike everyone else at NRC, Constance and her cousins do not idolize, nor like any of the Great Seven. Instead, they follow the Sanderson Sisters, seeing them as the greatest witches of all time.

Constance values her family over anything else. She will always protect her cousins first and will always stick by their sides. Constance, Silas, and Victor are together so often that they feel weird when they aren't all together. This is due to their past home lifes, where Constance was living with her sick, bed-ridden mother, Silas living with his alcoholic and abusive father, and Victor living with his overbearing mother and dismissive dad. Constance, Silas, and Victor would be kept in their rooms all the time, practicing their magic, and as such, never really learned how to socialize with kids their age. Yet, the three would find comfort in one another, sometimes sneaking out to play. As they grew older, Silas and Victor's parents abandoned them, leaving Constance's mother to take them in, but once she passed, there was no one left to care for the three cousins. As such, they became criminals, stealing food and valuables to survive. That was until Constance came up with a plan. The three would make potions and sell them to people all over Twisted Wonderland.

Three years went by, and Constance and her cousins were somewhat thriving. Their potion business boomed! Although the three had become wanted all over Twisted Wonderland, they didn't care. If making illegal potions was the way to survive, then they would gladly take their "good-ness" as a sacrifice. The three had even captured the attention of a cooky couple who ran an entire village hidden deep within the woods of Briar Valley. And as such, the couple took the three teens in as their children. But, there was a price. As payment for letting them into their secret village, Constance, Silas, and Victor had to "brand" themselves. A magic black ink had to be plastered onto their skin in a place of their choosing. This ink held the ability to make someone's magic stronger, but at the price of losing power in the place you used it. Constance decided to place it on her left hip, and as such, her left leg/hip became weaker. Though Constance lost some of her mobility, she and her siblings became stronger than ever before. They had also joined a community and finally had a new family.

Constance and her cousins always had an interest in attending a magic school, but never had the opportunity to do so, until they were taken in by the cooky couple. They immediately jumped at the opportunity to enroll their new children into NRC, unbothered by the three cousin's lack of social skills. Constance was excited, yet cautious. She had never met other kids her age besides her cousins. How would other kids her age treat her? She already had many terrible experiences with past boyfriends. Would the students at NRC treat her the same?

Although she had some bad stories, Constance's time at NRC was everything she wished for and more. She had always wished for more friends, more people who share the same magical abilities as her, and she was finally there. Even though she kept up a sparky exterior, Constance was grateful for everyone she met at NRC.

Relationships

Sebek - Both Sebek and Constance found the other to be annoying at first, but slowly became friendly rivals as they learned more about one another. Whether it was her confidence, her playfulness, or her looks, Sebek just couldn't seem to stay away from her. Constance found Sebek to be annoyingly endearing, always making fun of him to see his reaction. The two slowly seemed to enjoy each other's company, even if neither wanted to admit it.

Ace: Similarly, Ace and Constance also have a friendly rivalry. Though their relationship is mote platonic. Constance thinks of Ace as her "brother from another mother" and teases him constantly. Ace and Constance are both sort of annoying gingers, so they bond over their annoying-ness.

Deuce: Constance sees Deuce as her bestie, always being nice and enthusiastic to him to the point where Constance almost babies Deuce. Deuce appreciates Constance's support, yet he's a bit tired of her treating him like a child.

Malleus: Constance naturally treats everyone in NRC the same, no matter who they are, and that goes for Malleus, too. Even though Malleus is Constance's housewarden, she still treats him like a close friend, calling him nicknames and acting super casual around him. She is not in any way intimidated by him, and Malleus appreciates it, matching Constance's energy by cracking jokes with her.

Silas and Victor: As Constance's cousins, she obviously loves them dearly. Yet, as the youngest, Constance gets babied sometimes by Silas and Victor. Silas especially is very protective over Constance, not wanting Sebek to hurt her like her last exes did. Victor, on the other hand, is a bit more flexible, totally fine with Constance and Sebeks' relationship. Well, as long as Sebek keeps his hands to himself.

"Sanderson" is not Constance, Silas, or Victor's real last name. They just use it to sound important.

Constance covers her right eye because she doesn't actually have one. One of her many exes hit her with a glass bottle, greatly injuring her right eye. Her eye is the only thing Constance considers to be "ugly" about herself.

Even though Constance is Omnisexual, she has never had a female partner.

My Pregame Oumasai HCs (Will Be Called 'Kage' And 'Bon' Just For The Sake of It.)

Kage often forgets to take care of himself and stuff he needs to do(and sometimes he will purposely not do them). So Bon will often make lunch for him, help him clean his room(and house), get him out of bed, and probably more.

Bon is like a father figure for Kage, with — again, him taking care of Kage when he himself cannot or just refuses. He is also there for him emotionally and mentally.

Both Kage and Bon wear matching nail polish. Kage's left hand has white painted nails and his right hand has black painted nails, while Bon's colors are reversed. The colors are inspired by Monokuma(they can also hold hands with the same nails!).

They are T4T — Kage is a trans guy and bi(preference for girls), and Bon is genderfluid and bi(preference for guys).

Kage sometimes will bonk his head against Bon, who likes to do it back for fun.

Kage loves to ramble on about Danganronpa and FNaF to Bon(sometimes he won't even notice), who loves to listen to his voice.

Bon is actually strong enough to pick Kage up bridal style, but he can only do it for a certain amount of time. Ever since Bon found this out he would offer to pick Kage up whenever he seemed tired(or if he was found in bed when he should've been up).

Both Kage and Bon are incredibly touch-starved and love to touch each other, like giving the other a hug, or just snuggling. Unless one or both aren't feeling it then they won't be touched because consent matters!

Bon secretly loves to play with and brush Kage's hair. Kage knows this.

Kage uses lavender scents for himself whenever he doesn't shower which drives Bon off the wall because he hates lavender.

Bon owns A LOT of candles. Sometimes Kage will find a random candle hiding in his cabinets if Bon has too many to keep.

Kage has tons of merchandize of his favorite characters. Bon will tell Kage he has too many but that will be ignored.

Kage likes to bite. At times Bon will just let him nibble on his sleeve but if he can't or doesn't want that, he has chewlery packed just in case.

Bon packs a water bottle or two for Kage in his bag so he hydrates.

I want Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 to be as integrated into the heart and soul of Rain Code as Claire De Lune is for Danganronpa V3. Nocturne paints the perfect scene of Kanai Ward, a city encased in darkness where night is everlasting. The melody sings of love, a string of connections that tie the citizens together. It steps away from the chaos of the corrupted police force running amok in the streets and sinks into the quiet moments. The inside jokes, the delicate hugs, the bittersweet farewells. Candles floating gently across the river in memoriam for the loss of an entire city and the ones who couldn't make it to help save what was left. Words on a page dripping with fresh ink; the old passages remaining, never forgotten. Eyes looking to the clouds knowing there are stars just beyond. SWAMPCON

Swampcon was an absolute delight. This wasn’t my first time going to this convention for I actually had the pleasure of going with my friends last year. As an avid convention attendee, I knew exactly what was in store for me at Swampcon. As a Gator Anime officer, this has been something my friends and fellow officers have been working on and planning ever since last year. I had the opportunity to do almost everything the con had to offer including: visiting maid cafe, touring vendor hall and artist alley, participating in cosplay, playing in the rhythm arcade, attending a vocaloid concert and participating/hosting a panel.

The first thing I did the day of Swampcon was go with my friends in cosplay to the event. I adore cosplay as it's my opportunity to bring not only my headcanon OC designs to life, but also embrace some of my favorite characters in a new way where I can literally live out the fantasies of “he’s just like me for real.” Saturday I went as an original designer for a steampunk character. It's my personal favorite costume and is full of intricate gears and accessories. My friends went as miscellaneous characters ranging from Indiana Jones to Nagito from Danganronpa. Once we got to the venue, we went to see our sister club Maid Cafe perform. The songs they performed were bangers and I even got to see my friends break it down on stage to King which was so entertaining. We got served some treats so I had the S Tier drink known as lemonade and a brownie as the show was going on.

After the maid cafe, I toured vendor hall and artist alley. I bought the cutest and most astute looking goose plush I’ve ever seen. He is beautiful and he’s mine now. I named him Quacavel. The vendor hall was very small compared to an average convention so not too much besides the plushie caught my eye. On the other hand, artists alley was a lot more entertaining and engaging for me. I love buying good art and trinkets despite having no money nor wall space for them, but it's fine don't worry. I got a really neat framed painting of a fox that I put up in my room. The artist selections were awesome and vibrant and had items ranging from candles, to canvases, to preserved animal skeletons.

After some light shopping, I caught up with some old buddies of mine and relaxed in the VIP lounge for a bit until the late afternoon, just in time for the events to begin. We went to a panel where my boy Ahmed rated his favorite muscular women in anime (his first choice was Mikasa) which was not only hilarious in concept, but funny in the sense that it was surreal seeing it hosted in the UF Chamber with about 50+ attentive attendees. We migrated to the Vocaloid concert after the panel ended. Though it wasn’t holoprojected like it was last year, the song selection and dance sequences were absolutely gas and I enjoyed seeing hundreds of vocaloid enjoyers in one room all grooving to Solar System Disco.

The last bit of the day was my own panel: Bad Fanfic Reading (18+). We started prepping for the panel at around 7pm and my partner and I began setting up the powerpoint, music, and reading list. Though none of us had any prior experience with hosting panels at conventions, our time running Anime Club and our overall extroverted natures made it pretty easy. Honestly, I didn’t even feel nervous. Though I won’t go into detail about what we read, I will say we had an insane turnout and we had an amazing time. Our entire room was almost full and we retained a lot of the crowd for the almost 2 hour long session. It was an unforgettable experience that concluded in a trip to Chili’s.

Sunday I did basically everything from Saturday minus the panel stuff. It was a lot more tame since I was tired from the night before. I cosplayed as Red from Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow and even got a fire picture with Team Rocket!

Overall, I had an awesome time and I’m glad I was able to go.

Damn the imagery on this MV goes super hard i love the non-traditional stuff you'll find scattered around at a glance the ones i spot are: buhddist funeral rites with from, what i can count 39 candles which can mean thank you… those funeral flowers look like white chrysanthemums (grief, honesty, truth which the later two may be nods to the fact that they're not in their right minds), pink, and purple carnations which symbolize capaciousness and unpredictability Kuko also references gokurakujoudo which is the most well known higher buddhist celestial land known as the land of bliss so basically he's saying that he's so hot shit that he'll reincarnate into the holiest of holy lands Ragnarok is the end of the known gods according to nordic mythology aside from like. two gods and two humans which means either Jyushi is a ghost as shown in the scene or he's just that cool and survived Kuko's second verse is a reference to old paintings that depicted monks training their spiritual disciplines by mountainsides. if you're an old soul like me, think Libra Dohko's Mnt. Roshi Hitoya's second rap scene is mimicking an egyptian depiction of a weighing of the heart, specifically it seems to be parodying the scene found in the Papyrus of Hunefer. interestingly, the three opponents are on the side in which the feather of maat is commonly depicted on, the thing which the heart is weighed against while Amanda is the heart Hitoya and Kuko's spots on the papyrus is where anubis would be, setting them as the judges who preside over this battle. Jyushi is also sitting where Ammit, the devour of the dead, would be depicted sitting. Ammit is also a goddess, which is fun Given the red moon behind him, Jyushi also plays at a fallen angel The chorus' first scene is another very famous generic buhdist scene. while i don't think it references anything specifically, the three sitting on lotus flowers and the bodhi tree's in the back implies that they are buddah. like no joke, they are actually buddha don't know if this is actually a reference, but the red hell-like place that the three find themselves in might be Sañjīva, one of the buddhist naraka's where those who are reincarnated there are born fully grown and are attacked by other people and monsters return of the kinshachi! kaleidoscopic imagery which is also heavily associated with buddhist imagery That ending is a reference to the spider's thread by ryunosuke akutaguwa! you might remember it if you've played Danganronpa V3 but its a story about a man trying to escape from hell from a spider thread but ultimately falls back into hell because of his greed - that Obaaachannnn is so cute. and the bait and switch was so silly Kuko as always is just the absolute star of the show even if the spotlight isn't on him Huh???? Are Doppo and Hifumi okay???? Please??? you can't just cliffhang that???? how dareeee

I'm so glad for their first feature episode I really enjoyed BAT! The song was such a banger and the imagery along with it so evocative. I really liked the episode how it brought everyone together for a chaotic jaunt. I hope next week with dotsuhompo will be just as silly

Danganronpa: The Ultimate Student - Prologue

Hello there. My name is Y/n L/n and I live in Uptown Creation City, living by myself, far away from my awful parents and I...am a diehard fan of Danganronpa.

Yes, I am talking about the adventure, visual novel, detective and dating simulation type of game known as Danganronpa. I have every video game, manga books, figurines and every single piece of Danganronpa merchandise known to man and it was all worth the trouble of collecting everything that is based on my favorite anime.

My most favorite character in the series was the cute, but very dangerous and cunning black and white bi-sided bear known as Monokuma as he takes the role as the Hope's Peak Academy's own principal and used many tactics to manipulate the Ultimate Students in killing each other through murder, despite most of the students refusing to murder each other in order to escape the school turned prison through graduation.

All of that was caused by the students that have fallen into despair...

The point of the game is when a dead body student is found around school grounds, the other students have to figure out who is the 'blackened' and if they find the culprit correct, the murderer will receive the death penalty of Monokuma's brand of executions, but if they get the wrong culprit, all of the students except for the real culprit will all be punished, leaving the murderer to get away with murder and graduate.

I played all of the Danganronpa games 27 times and I know all the characters that killed the other students in each game.

The only thing I hate about the series was Junko Hiroshima, not because that she a dranged lunatic like she always does with a passion for murder, mayhem and despair, its just that she uses Monokuma for her own entertainment and used the whole scenario of seeing the students murder each other for a TV Show, which explains about all the cameras all around the school that is recording everything that has happened during the events of the game.

I always thought of Monokuma as a sentient being like a Very Powerful AI controlling the bear and I never saw him as either a puppet or a high-tech build-a-bear reject.

If I was in that game, I would prove to Monokuma that I would be his most favorite student and beat Junko at her own game.

If I had an Ultimate Talent, I would be known as the Ultimate Student. It doesn't matter what kind of special talent that I have that makes me an Ultimate Student, I have any Ultimate Talent that will get me into Hope's Peak Academy.

However, that will never happen because all of that stuff from the series is all made believe and not real. It's all part of reality and you just have to deal with it and move on.

I understand that none of the events of the game ever actually happened in real life, but I would love to see myself in that universe and meet the entire cast of the Danganronpa franchise as well as Monokuma himself.

But then again, that's part of reality and you can't make it happen like you're some sort of God or have the ability to travel through different dimensions.

We can't always get what we want in our lives. It's all part of our lives...

But that's ok, I can always just imagine myself being inside all of those games I played, the manga I read or even replay with the figurines and plush dolls I have of the characters.

I even wrote my own Danganronpa AU fanfiction and I would post it online, but I didn't want anyone thinking that I'm super obsessed with Danganronpa and might end up like Junko herself.

So, anyways you all wondered what's going to happen next in this story. Well, as I was getting ready for bed because I have work tomorrow morning and I gotta get some sleep to get to work on time.

The very moment that I got in the covers of my Monokuma bed sheets, I turned off the lights and went to sleep before I said something to myself before I went out like a candle.

Y/n: I wish I was a part of the Danganronpa universe as the Ultimate Student at Hope's Peak Academy...zzzzzzzz

Those words that came out of my month sent a message to the cosmic being of the multiverse that heard my cries for help as the God's Creation got the message and decided to grant my wish that will change my life forever.

Creation: I can fully understand your desires to be the Ultimate Student in the world of Danganronpa and I shall grant your wish. The moment you wake up from your slumber, you will find yourself in a dorm room at Hope's Peak Academy, but you will not remember everything from your past life once you arrive at the Academy as your new life. However, your vast knowledge of this series will be your greatest weapon in surviving through the world filled with nothing but Hope and Despair as you will be known as Y/n L/n aka The Ultimate Student.

With the cosmic power of the Multiverse, he transported me to the Danganronpa Universe as my life as the Ultimate Student at Hope's Peak Academy is finally coming true as I was blessed by the creative power of the God's Creation.

As I was being sent to the Danganronpa universe, Creation was about to head back to his realm, only to stop for a moment to say a few words before leaving back to his lair.

Creation: Oh, I also added a special surprise once you meet this "Monokuma" that I heard so much about. A very interesting creature to be a highly advanced AI in a high tech build-a-bear reject that is the balance between Hope and Despair. He's gonna be so surprised to see an uninvited guest inside the school and once meets the Ultimate Student for the first time, his reaction is absolutely "Unbearable". (Chuckles) I crack myself up. (Looks around in my room to see my entire Danganronpa collection) Nice collection by the way, Y/n. I better get all of your Danganronpa merchandise to a safe place in my dimension, where no one will ever try to steal them.

He then used his powers to put my entire Danganronpa collection in a safe place where no one will ever find it and he soon went back to his own dimension while I'm being sent to the world of Danganronpa to start my life as The Ultimate Student.

This was going to be the adventure of my entire life, but I must be on high alert as I'm about to enter Monokuma territory and things will soon fall into despair once the games of murder and trail begin at Hope's Peak Academy.

Inside the principal's office at Hope's Peak Academy, a familiar looking bi-sided black and white bear was sitting at his desk, relaxing and drinking a glass of wine when he suddenly heard something from a few dimensions away that insulted him when Creation made a joke about him that his reaction about a new student arriving here at the academy uninvited would be "un-bear-able" to him and he did not like that at all.

Monokuma: (Growls) Why do I suddenly hear someone make fun of me with bear puns and I don't remember having an extra student coming to this school, uninvited. Eh, no matter. More students, means more fun ways to bring despair and murder to amuse me. Yet, I'm still deeply offended by whoever made fun of me and it wasn't bear-y nice at all.

Story : overview and inspiration

Overview

For the start of the game I want to throw the player in where the gameplay start with little amounts of exposition on who the characters are just giving small hints on who the characters are and there relationships that would be established more as the story panned out however I don't have the means to make the whole story/game

however a general overview of what happens at the start of the game that is playable is that Finbub the main character who attends a school set in the modern day but this school is that off a school for outcasts and weirdos with odd mutations and powers mostly linked to those of Gods from around the world a small bit of exposition that the player wouldn't know is that Finbub the protagonist used to be friends with Dionysus or as he calls him Dio for short as they were good friends Dio however one day gains a new set of powers before he was weak and seen as an outcast even in a school full of them as being related to that of Dionysus he could only grow measly Grape vines and sometimes the grapes if he was lucky but however he one day suddenly spurts new crazy powers allowing him to not just have much ascended the previous powers being able to make his old powers far stronger being able to create that of sentient grapes but also he has the ability to grant wishes but he only uses this for evil and his own way all of the bullying he was stuck with will be retributed but this causes a sort of outbreak of his mental stability causing him to go crazy with power this is then left to Finbub to fix as he was his only real friend as he didn't have much of powers either he was just a Faun a goat boy with legs horns and eyes that he hides as he dislikes that due to previous bullying he covers it with a bandanna that shows off his inner flame as well he has fire powers however very weak he could barely light a candle if he tried but Dionysus might help reveal his inner power and this is more a less where the story starts with Dio making Fin fight off his new minions

The inspiration

My Hero Academia

Firstly one of my largest pieces of inspiration was from the anime/manga series My Hero Academia the show mostly consists of a world inhabited by many people who suddenly spurted powers one day called quirks these are superpowers that really can be anything sticky balls that come out of your head to Super strength caused by ingesting Sugar although what I will say is it is almost the opposite to my world as not having powers in this universe would cause one to be bullied in comparison and that's where I pull a large piece of inspiration from the Main Character Izuku Midoriya he Starts the series as somewhat of a nobody bullied from the fact he has no powers but he still aspires to become a strong hero and attend the school for heroes UA However once he is given his power One for All by the number one hero All Might he is able to climb his way up and become far stronger than anyone could imagine

Danganronpa

Danganronpa is a Game/Anime series based around a group of students all talented in there own areas and therefore are invited to a prestigious school Hopes peak academy however upon arrival they are never to be seen again the story of the game follows as story murder mystery puzzle based gameplay as a game of survival of the fittest plays out between them having to try and be the last survivors playing a game of kill or be killed every time someone is murderer the students go to trial having to try and pin it on one person who will then be sent to "punishment time" that would lead to the inevitable death there is 3 main games/series that all follow the same idea with a fresh new cast and ideas obviously my main inspiration from this game is the character each having there own unique talents that span from being the ultimate gambler to the ultimate swimmer and everything in-between and outside this idea

The Netflix iteration on the Addams family series Wednesday I think really fits the theme of my game well as the setting and story share many point such as the school for out casts with werewolves, Gorgons and vampires and many other with there own unique powers compared to My Hero Academia where not having powers is weird its the opposite in this universe where having them makes you weird and dangerous but I also think this universe works well as it is set in the modern day making mentions of that such as tiktok but also another part of this is that the main story is Wednesday and her group of friends hunting down a mysterious beast and having many other mysteries mix into it and that would be similar to my story as a whole as while chasing the main villain there would be many side plots set off

Murderous Riddles: Classroom of Shadows

Once upon a time, in a dark and twisted realm known as the "Classroom of Shadows," the infamous Assassination Classroom found themselves entangled in a diabolical game of murder and mystery. The enigmatic Teacher, a yellow octopus-like creature with a smile that could send chills down one's spine, had invited them to participate in an event called "Escape the Night."

Awaiting their arrival was a sprawling mansion, much like the eerie settings of their previous adventures. As the doors creaked open, the twelve students stepped foot into an unfamiliar territory adorned with unsettling artifacts. Curiosity mingled with fear as they were greeted by a robotic bear of despair named Monochanronpa.

Monochanronpa introduced himself as the twisted mastermind behind the game, where the students would have to solve enigmatic riddles and play gruesome challenges to survive. Invoking memories of the macabre Danganronpa series, the classmates were horrified, realizing that their once familiar world had transformed into a breeding ground for murder.

Darkness obscured their fate as eerie laughter of a clock echoed through the corridors. The Teacher, resolute yet detached as ever, motioned the students to gather in the main hall. Whispering words of caution, he warned them that the classroom they cherished had now become a battlefield where trust would be shattered and friendship obliterated.

Intrigue coursed through the student's veins as they navigated the mansion's labyrinthine halls, dimly lit by flickering candles. Time ticked ominously, marking the inception of despair. The first riddle appeared, a cryptic note that gave them a clue to locate a secret room deep within the mansion's heart.

As they ventured forward, each step untangling secrets and plotting strategies, tensions began to mount. Friendships that had once stood resolute in their mission to assassinate the Teacher trembled under the weight of this new twisted game.

Days turned into nights, and darkness devoured their every move as riddles escalated in complexity. Lives were at stake, pawns moved strategically, and alliances shifted like quicksand. The students quickly realized that behind every door lurked a potential betrayal and an unknown murderer cloaked in shadows.

One by one, students began disappearing, leaving behind only chilling messages and remnants of their existence. Fear settled heavily upon the survivors as they meticulously investigated their surroundings, attempting to uncover the truth and unmask the malevolent force orchestrating this vile game.

Red herrings and misdirection ran rampant as the remaining students unraveled the sinister plot laid before them. The Teacher's eerie, maniacal laughter reverberated through the halls, empowering their resolve to unveil the puppet master behind the curtain.

Bound by a shared resolve, the remaining students united, took a final stand against their twisted fate. Whispers grew louder as they pieced together the sequence of events, unmasking the perpetrator behind the murders. In a climactic confrontation, the Teacher's true intentions came to light, shattering the realm of darkness that had imprisoned them.

As dawn broke, the surviving Assassination Classroom students emerged from the enigmatic mansion, forever altered by their harrowing experience. They had conquered the twisted game, emerging as warriors of hope, forever vigilant against the darkness lurking within.

And with the echoes of their brave actions resonating throughout history, the chilling tale of "Murderous Riddles: Classroom of Shadows" breathed its last, leaving an indelible mark upon the souls of those who dared venture into its depths. Years passed since the spine-chilling events of "Murderous Riddles: Classroom of Shadows." I remember seeing a post of urs a while back about Danganronpa being lackluster when you think back on it in comparison to uchikoshi works.

It's been a while since I played dr but I remember playing it after ze & feeling let down by the mystery itself among other things

what specifically do you think didn't work for you when thinking back or was just not well written? I'd just love to hear ur thoughts ❤️

Spoilers for danganronpa, zero escape, and aitsf:

For starters, Uchikoshi puts a lot more care into his characters. None of the characters are there purely for tropes or to act purely as a ploy for the protagonist. Even Lotus and Alice, who come off as “Cunning boob lady” have a whole lot more going on beneath the surface, with Lotus potentially being a single mother of twin girls, and Alice willing to stop at nothing to avenge her father (and of course they are both insanely smart). I feel like he also puts some very deep and insightful real-world commentary with his villains (Ace being a CEO of a pharmaceutical company, Dio being a religious extremist, and Saito being the spoiled son of a wealthy politician) which definitely makes them a lot more interesting to analyse. The ableism is very very unfortunate (wrt to Saito, Mira, and Ace) but that is one of the few major downsides to Uchikoshi’s writing. Emphasis on FEW.

In terms of mystery writing, a lot of the twists in dr don’t really hold a candle to the twists in zero escape and aitsf? I don’t think that’s entirely Kodaka’s fault though, considering they are very different settings. But I didn’t exactly feel shocked to hear about the timeskip in dr1. It was incredibly predictable. The simulation reveal was EXTREMELY cool in sdr2, and it’s part of the reason why sdr2 is my favourite from the main trilogy (that and Chiaki and Hajime are two of my favourite characters). As for V3, well that’s a whole other kettle of fish that I won’t get into (mostly because I’m extremely conflicted about a LOT of things that happened in that game). V3 puts quite a big damper on the rest of the series from the get-go by killing off the female protagonist for the male protagonist’s development (a move that becomes increasingly more shitty as time goes on) and really V3 just doesn’t really improve from there. In fact, up until the last trial, it really just goes downhill. The Truman Show reveal was pretty clever and it gave the series the necessary conclusion it needed (despite a fuck ton of complaints) but apart from that V3 just. Kinda sucks. A boring character who sits in the background and occasionally makes good quips or snarky comments doesn’t make for a good twist villain. Ace on the other hand, plays a pretty major role throughout the entirety of 999. He just comes off as a wise and kind old man with a quick wit at first before rapidly becoming sinister and cartoonishly evil after the reveal. Santa too is incredibly interesting after you revisit 999. Santa being smug and rude is a great way to misdirect the player. It makes us THINK he’s evil, and if you got the Coffin route on your first run like I did, it makes you think he’s the Big Bad, only to discover by the end of the game that he was actually doing all that to save his sister and punish the people who abused him. It’s upsetting that he didn’t make any sort of reappearance in zero time dilemma and he was only mentioned in one conversation between Junpei and Akane (honestly they should have swapped Carlos for Santa that would have interesting).

As for aitsf I could ramble all fucking day about that game. But for starters I think the art is just ten times better than any of the other games I mentioned (with the exception of 999 because I think the way that game is stylised is perfect) and the character writing AND voice acting is absolutely incredible. The fact that several of the voice actors had to do their voices in multiple different ways, such as Saito!Boss, Date!Boss, Date!Saito, Saito!Date, even Saito!Iris to an extent. Even though Saito was pretending to be Iris there are still noticeable differences in her demeanor, for instance Saito!Iris is a lot more reserved and doesn’t act as excited all the time as regular Iris.

I think the number one difference in character writing though which separates Uchikoshi and Kodaka’s writing is how they write children. I’m not even gonna begin to say how awful Ultra Despair Girls is (iykyk), but even when it comes to teenagers or the younger characters (Hiyoko in particular comes to mind), Uchikoshi is just so much better at writing them. Iris actually FEELS like a teenager. And even though Mizuki and Quark are both very clever and mature for their age, it’s still obvious that they are children in the way that they act. Meanwhile, while Hiyoko definitely exhibits a lot of child-like behaviour, the fact that a lot of people misconstrue that and somehow believe she’s the same age as the others, kinda shows that Kodaka kinda failed to make that more obvious (however I do agree that there’s a fuck-ton of subtext to suggest that Hiyoko is a lot younger). Mizuki and Quark are just far better handled for so many reasons. Mizuki is probably one of the best-written characters like, ever. Which is why I’m sooo excited for Nirvana Initiative

Moreover, I think Uchikoshi just does a better job at writing women, and is a bet more sensitive than Kodaka is with certain topics (for instance, although Mama isn’t perfect, she’s a damn sight better than what happened to Chihiro). Hitomi is by far one of the best written female characters I think I’ve ever seen. Boss is fantastic, Clover is fantastic, and above all else, AKANE KURASHIKI IS FUCKING FANTASTIC. Akane is DEFINITELY the quintessential “morally grey female character” and Uchikoshi did such a good job at delivering that. Our sympathy for her in 999 conflicts her coldness in VLR, and again it’s challenged in ZTD (although I disagree heavily with the way Akane was written in ZTD they had some good points). ZTD Akane and Junpei are very interesting because Junpei is resentful and nihilistic, and Akane is forced to live with the realisation that it was, for the most part, HER FAULT. She loves him, but she put him through so much trauma. ZTD kinda hit the nail in the coffin and made everyone realise that Junpei and Akane were just never meant to be together. It’s a disaster waiting to happen (DIVORCE JOKES!!!)

And finally, all three iterations of Zero are just far more interesting than Junko and Monokuma. Okay sorry that was really long but I hope this all made sense byyeeeee
