pov: Richard brings coffee for the breakfasts and Thomas become outraged and dramatic when Richard offers him a cup of coffee and starts to sing "Englishman in NY" by Sting
It‘s so funny that Thomas Barrow just basically told Mary and Robert to fuck off, let Carson deal with the royal staff and the broken boiler, spent his night in an illegal gay bar, got arrested and bailed out of prison from the second valet of the king and returned to his work as if nothing has happened.
I don't recall ever pointing out how funny Mr Bates and Miss Baxter look to me during the prank call scene.
I've generally assumed they've no idea what exactly is going on at the time, as Thomas previously leaves them wondering with a smirking "you'll find out."
On one hand, Bates and his deadpan face somewhat convey utmost resignation at the latest Thomas scheme; on the other hand, Phyllis gets the mildly horrified expression of an older sister wondering what her troublemaker little brother is up to.
Meanwhile, the little brother and his soon-to-be boyfriend...
The Downton Abbey estate has been plagued by mysterious livestock disappearances for years, but when children start going missing too, they decide to take action. The local police are clueless, and suggest calling in a specialist investigator from London, Richard Ellis.
When Richard arrives at Downton station, he's met by the butler, Thomas Barrow, who offers his assistance, and they set about trying to piece together why the bloody foot prints in the snow never seem to lead anywhere. But as the two grow closer, Richard's suspicions are aroused. Where does Thomas go at night and why is he so scathing about Richard's love of the moon?
All anyone will say about Thomas is that he's not like other men, but it's clear no one really likes him. Can he really be responsible for the disappearances when he seems so fond of children? When he's as invested in finding the culprit as Richard is? Or has he been playing Richard from the start, getting close to him only to divert suspicion from himself?
As fresh snowfall traps him at Downton and the full moon approaches, Richard grapples with how to continue his investigation when he's fallen in love with his prime suspect. And Thomas grapples with whether he can trust Richard with his darkest secret: he's afflicted with lycanthropy, so he knows a werewolf is responsible for the killings, but it's not him.
As my final entry for Naughty or Nice @barris-events, a little gift for @wildamongwolves inspired by the omegaverse prompt as a thank you for all the hard work keeping things running smoothly. I wish I had time to write it properly. Maybe one day. But for now, here's some wolf Thomas 🐺.
PS thank you @infinity2020corner for the help with the screen grabs <3.
Imagine, the night of halloween, Thomas'friend conviced him to visit a haunted house. Obv he is scared to death, and everyone makes fun of him or intentionally frighten him. Fortunately, a Richard ellis is always ready to comfort, and cheering his boyfriend up (and obv protects him).
Beryl Patmore is the type of person to say that Thomas Barrow is a sarcastic, oily and smug person but the moment you dare to insult him, she will personally make you regret it.
Phyllis Baxter is the type of person to roll her eyes every time Thomas talks about Richard but always smiles proudly to herself when Thomas tells her about his shared afternoon with the valet.
Daisy Parker is the type of person to pretend like she doesn’t know about Mr. Ellis but when she knows that he is visiting, she would bake his favorite biscuits and tell him that she’s happy he’s here.
Andy Parker is the type of person to pretend to be oblivious but has already overheard so many phone calls between Thomas and Richard that made him smile mischievously.
The whole DA staff pretends to not care so much but in reality, they secretly all love their butler and just want to see him happy.
of Thomas staring out of the window, late at night, cigarette at hand, dressed in dark trousers and an unbuttoned shirt being watched by Richard from who is still on the bed.
And he starts talking about everything that has made him the man he is, while he smokes, hair fallen over his forehead.
And then Richard rises and gets to him, wraps his arms around him from behind and rests his head on Thomas' shoulder while the rain falls peacefully.
