@erendur and I were chatting in the tags of my previous post and I had an interesting train of thought sparked by a reply.

What if Maglor had not been born in his family? At first, my og thought was, “he would’ve done much better off in a different family.” But then I got thinking and it turned into,

“What if he didn’t exist at all?”

I just wanted to throw this idea out there to ask what you guys would think occur.

My train of thought imagined it would actually create a domino effect. Without Maglor, Celegorm would have been regent. Uldor would have not been killed by him- and probably would have killed Maedhros. The Noldolantë would’ve not been created. And who knows what would have happened to Elrond and Elros.

How would the Fëanorians do without their emotional support brother? (Especially Maedhros)

Actually, it’s making me think of other scenarios where one character is out of place and it changes the course of the story.

The Doctor is a tragic character in the best Greek tragedy tradition.

So y'all know how the most common driving factor for intelligence to develop in species is if they're social? (Octopi aren't very social but let's ignore that real quick, the Doctor's a vertebrate anyway so invertebrate intelligence can probably be dismissed as irrelevant) Because after a point, more intelligence isn't really needed to avoid danger or gather food. But more intelligence does make it possible to communicate more efficiently, form more complex social bonds, eventually develop culture. Cue why social species tend to be more intelligent than solitary ones of otherwise comparable lifestyle. And cue why humanity is the way it is.

Now look at Gallifreyans. (I am purposefully ignoring the Timeless Child thing bc I don't rlly believe it and besides, even assuming it's true, The Doctor is similar enough to Gallifreyans to have flawlessly believed himself/themselves/herself to be one for 13+ regenerations, so anything that can be concluded to be true from analysis of Gallifreyans has good basis to be presumed true about the Doctor, whatever the fuck semantics you wanna use) So, Gallifreyans. A species much more advanced than according to DW canon humanity will ever be. More intelligent than humanity. High levels of education and not on the basis of private tutoring. Lives in cities. Has complex language and technology capable of instantly translating pretty much any language of any other species to be understandable to them. (Hell the TARDIS consistently still translates shit to English for the companions while they're outside it.) Complex social structure. That's one fucking social species.

And it gets better. The TARDIS is meant to be operated by a team of six. And even if River was joking about six, it's still clear that it should at least be more than one. Compare the Doctor steering the TARDIS alone to when he was with Susan. I mean, even those two looked like they could use an extra hand. Have you ever seen a human private use vehicle designed with 2+ pilots in mind? Definitely a species more social than humanity.

And the telepathy thing? Hello? Insanely, mind-boggingly social species.

Now take a being this fundamentally social and do something to them so that they see no recourse other than to take one (1) same-species (as far as he was aware disclaimer ig) companion, steal a ship they have little to no clue how to pilot, leave everything and everyone they've ever known and run without ever stopping for breath, no matter how much they miss home, no matter if it hurts. (And I do believe something must have happened to make him run like that, since the beggining, way before the Time War) Have them be scorned, judged, punished, mistreated and rejected by their species, again and again, for ages. Have them love, again and again, only to always lose everyone they've cared about, through abandonment or death. Have them essentially be forced to exterminate their whole species and believe themselves to be the last of their kind, only to be proven wrong by the whole Master situation, which alright is better, but also in some ways is worse. Have them, once again, form deep bonds with companions and once again lose all of them in various varyingly tragic ways until they have no hope left that anyone can ever truly stay for any amount of time even close to satisfactory, that love can for them end in anything but loss and pain. And they can't even avoid love altogether in an effort to spare themselves the inevitable agony of losing loved ones, because they're incapable of not growing to care for those around them. And they can't be without company either, because their sanity goes straight to hell in a handbasket within like,, 5 minutes of being alone.

Let me remind you this is not a human we're talking about. It's a member of a species much more inherently social than humanity. My point?

The Doctor is literally more lonely than the human brain can comprehend.

I’ve been a weird headspace lately and I just feel like Things are A Lot. I took a walk and didn’t realize that tonight was a full moon, I had been so caught up in Life™️. I need to take a reminder to slow down, to be more mindful.


I’m still feeling off, but I do feel better. Sometimes the little things are so important, like harshly judging people’s video game houses with my sister in FF14. I get so caught up in stress and awful feelings that it’s just good to stop and observe how beautiful the moon is (and judge people for making a bleak modernist/minimalist house in a dang fantasy game)

yall. discovering the good omens parody made me rewatch @thehillywoodshow parodies i remember from my teenhood and.

this makes me experience shrimp emotions. idk where to even start explaining how this makes me feel. but ig i will try

like first of all the fact that ive watched enough of this show to know all the references. and that all these references happened at all and this show happened at all and that i watched most of it and loved it as a teen. its like awe and suprise and nostalgia and sadness and joy and a little bit of mortification but then vindication for having been so passionate about something and enjoying it

second of all the song, im not a massive fan of swift and never really was but shake it off and a lot of her stuff was pretty unavoidable during those years, and i def cant deny this and others are absolute bops and still make me smile and dance... and the message is positive and fun, the way lyrics are changed in the parody mostly fit really well and sound really good so its a song i can enjoy without the context too

and how its like. intentionally combining this... idea of a misogynistic perception of fandom that used to be a lot more prominent, of like the "squeee fangirl" and just being super silly and fun because why the fuck not! and combining it with this show, which is (at least at the start meant to be) more like kinda broody and classically masculine and stuff, and just embracing that combination so genuinely and happily, it was so wonderful to see in 2015 and still so wonderful, and such a fuck you to THA HATERS literally

and just. the production quality is incredible and inspiring, theres so much going on so many scenes and so many meme and culture and show references that bring a smile to my face, the cosplay is wonderful and high quality and makes me want to cosplay spn(really? oh god) for the first time again...

and the fact that they got so many actors and people involved with the show involved!! seeing fancontent aknowledged by "official" sources is still pretty baffling to me sometimes, and it def wasnt as regular in 2015 as it is now to my knowledge, so this was super BIG and awesome back then...

i fell off the latter end of spn, so the only like offical fan depictions and fandom aknowledgements in the series itself i remember are Fan Fiction and the novels and the larper ghostbusters?? or whatever, and those werent always the most sympathetic, or rather made fun of the fandom... which like, parody is fine, spn is a fun meta show, but it did often feel somewhat meanspirited and disapproving, which i understand but dont like. So seeing a fan-MADE parody that is just genuinely celebrating the work AND its fans is such a joy!!!

ugh this affects 10 out of 13 of my fics. I extremely didn't want to lock any of my works for both the selfish reason of wanting more engagement and the unselfish reason of wanting people to be able to enjoy what they will without the pressure of creating an account and staying logged in to it. Plus I, naively in retrospect, thought that since my fics are far from popular, they wouldn't be an appealing target. There are so many fics on ao3 I didn't expect someone might scrape literally all of them. But now that I know this is a real danger I will be, regrettably, locking my fics. In the unlikely event that someone wants to read them but doesn't have an ao3 account, they can message me and I will send them over, although I admit I fail to see how that could be more convenient than making an account.

As of the time of this post, AO3 has been scraped by yet another shady individual looking to make a quick buck off the backs of hardworking hobby writers. This Reddit post here has all the details and the most current information. In short, if your fic URL ends in a number between 1 and 63,200,000 (inclusive), AND is not archive locked, your fic has been scraped and added to this database.

I have been trying to hold off on archive locking my fics for as long as possible, and I've managed to get by unscathed up to now. Unfortunately, my luck has run out and I am archive locking all of my current and future stories. I'm sorry to my lovelies who read and comment without an account; I love you all. But I have to do what is best for me and my work. Thank you for your understanding.

So I finished season 1 of Broadchurch and since I've always seen people saying how much better it is than Gracepoint, I watched that earlier. You know, so I'd be pleasantly surprised instead of disappointed. But honestly? Although I liked the acting and pacing of Broadchurch better, I honestly think the resolution of Gracepoint made much more sense than the ending of Broadchurch's s1. I do consider Alec Hardy to be a slightly less terrible person than Emmet Carver, although nothing could ever make me respect that man.

Someone please please come talk to me about this show though and feel free to disagree with me on everything I just need to talk about it and none of my friends watched it 😭

I still very much plan on watching s2&s3. And I'll probably end up sketching Alec when I do because regardless of my opinion on the character's likability, I still in general find all David Tennant characters fun to draw and my lack of skills is not gonna stop me. Inflicting a shitty Emmet Carver sketch upon the world bc I can lol

Look dude, I was once a preteen/teen who fancied myself a Hetalian who took history *seriously* and *accurately* and showed the real brutality and blood tm of what nations would actually be like, and don't get me wrong, it's still important to strive for accuracy and to consider the sensitive and dark nature of history, but like... at some point, we all need to stop making everyone 2014 edgy sarcastic greyscale scumbags who always have a witty remark to snark back with. nothing, they're still colourblind, the colour is only perceived by the later incarnation of the Doctor as the POV character is always the latest incarnation

"the doctor was completely colourblind for his first two incarnations" is hilarious for many reasons but at least partly because it implies the third doctor just woke up one day suddenly able to see in colour and immediately decided to start dressing like a gay parrot
