［寄り道　其の四（ラスト）］ ・ 潮汐もなにも調べずに来てみたら、樹々の向こうに少しずつ見えてくる姿は小さいけれど確かにタイダル・アイランド。 ・ 駐車場など無いので（交通量もほとんどないけど）歩道が広くなったところに車を停めて駆け寄り、往復する時間がありそうかどうかを確認。 ・ 何故ならわたしは数集落向こうにある真玉海岸で、写真に夢中になっている間に海の中に取り残された経験があるからだ。どんなマヌケだとお思いだろうが、いや本当に一気に満ちる時は満ちてくるのよこの辺。 ・ よく見ると道の途中に見える岩礁のところどころは既に夕焼けが反射してる、そして遠浅の干潟である真玉ならまだしも、これだけ荒れた海に囲まれたらアウトでしょうね。でも大丈夫、間に合う。というか、わたしの性格上行かないわけがないのだ。 ・ 足を挫いたり、滑ったりしないように慎重に歩を進め、波に拐われるギリギリまで、海風に叩かれながら、波しぶきやそのあとに現れるクリーミーな泡を思う存分見つめる。 ・ なんて幸せなんだろう！！ ・ 楽し過ぎて、こんな体験をさせてくれた神様とちょっとした約束をしてしまう。 ・ 今思えばテンションが上がっていたから、と言うことも出来るが、両子寺から始まり五辻不動、岩屋、そしてここまで。これまで国東を訪れる度に真っ青に澄んで晴れ渡る空について初めて考えた。 ・ 偶然っちゃ偶然なのだこんなのは。でも土地との相性というのは人間なんぞ及びもつかないところで存在する。目には見えないはずのものを信じられないような頭でっかちな大人にはわたしは成れない。糸島のような人懐っこい海もいいが、桜島フェリーから見下ろす真っ暗な錦江湾からも目が離せないように。 ・ 翌日は一日だらだらしてお正月休み終わり。ギリタイミングが合いそうなので次は念願の鬼会で。神様との約束についてはその時改めて考えようと思う。 ・ 2020.01.04 ・ #kunisaki #oita #japan #sea #tidalisland (Kunisaki-shi, Oita, Japan) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7Uu0rilDaI/?igshid=yap7v2barl6

#2 - The Brough of Birsay, Orkney

Accessed by means of a tidal causeway which looks like the entrance to R’lyeh, you get four hours in which to visit this small island off the north-west coast of Mainland in Orkney. The island slopes towards impressive cliffs with seabirds nesting on it in summer and there’s a lighthouse at the highest point. Viking ruins near the bottom indicate that this was an important settlement, and in the Orkneyingjasaga it was the scene of many dramatic doings, probably involving people getting hit round the head with axes.
