The Illusion of Time

Time flows like a quiet river, shaping the story of our lives. It moves gently, like a dancer, yet slips away like sand through an open hand. For those who wait, time feels endless—stretching like a shadow at sunset. For those who are happy, it feels fleeting—disappearing like a bird at sunrise. This paradox is what makes time so mysterious and beautiful.

What is Time, Really?

Is time just an illusion, a reflection of how we see the world? To a child, an hour feels like forever, filled with wonder. To an adult, a year can pass in a blink, blending together like pages in a book.

Time is more than just ticking clocks and changing seasons. It is measured by the depth of our experiences. A single moment of love can feel eternal, while years of emptiness vanish like smoke.

Yet, we cling to time—counting days, hours, and minutes as if we can hold onto them. But time is not ours to keep. It is a gift, a silent whisper from something greater than ourselves.

I'm knitting in the corner at a party

and guys my age stop by to tell me I remind them of their aunt, of their grandmother. This is a compliment and I take it as such. They confess to having tried crochet once, and I smile. They get back in line for the bathroom.

I'm knitting in the corner at a party and a queer woman sits on the floor next to me, arranges her skirt, and smiles up at me. (I try not to blush.) She asks me all the questions on her mind about my craft and I answer them, hands still moving. We swap yarn sources. She doesn't stay, but she knows where to find me.

They pretend to be checking in on me, which is sweet, but I can see the relief in their eyes the moment they stop performing for a house full of people. They sit down and tell me things and all the while they never take their eyes off my hands.

The party has wound down and I'm still knitting and the hosts, two guys in their twenties, thank me for "helping to curate the vibe." I had no idea that's what I was doing. I leave the party having forgotten to drink anything and without that woman's number but with many rows added to my top-down raglan sweater. I call it a night, and a good one.

you really need to raise your standards for what's considered "a phrase" because if it only makes sense in the specific context of the post it was originally found in and it isn't repeatable in other situations, that's not a phrase that has entered the lexicon, that's just something someone said one time.

This is not about adding to The General Lexicon - I have an entire tag for things that change this site as a whole, which has a higher bar; this is largely about novelty and humor. This is us curb-stomping whatever the fuck we want into the right form for our needs, whatever those needs may be, including altering aspects of the phrase to fit the necessary format or context. It's a linguistic shotgun.

the thing is I already know that men and society at large hate women. I know that young men in particular increasingly skew right and towards misogyny (I've read the articles, although all I really need to do is spend any time on any part of the internet to see the evidence). but then every so often something like this happens where it still somehow surprises me. like my god.. they really hate us this much.

people making fun of trans masc and men’s names always falls so flat, because they tend to be some of the most beautiful and classic male names that exist? liam, will, jack, finn, izzy, viktor, lucas, theo etc . and you know if we were instead en masse choosing names like apollo, achilles, hades, dionysus they’d find a reason to make us feel pathetic for it too. one can make anything look stupid if you try hard enough, and people try really hard when it comes to trans men and mascs and what we choose to do with our own autonomy.
