i think the sketch looks silly and goofy and funny so i find it important to share with you the mere presence of the faces i drew on it. i drew it on top of the boxes without staying inside its borders because i find my proportions can get wonky if i draw them cropped in a restricted space. and I feel trapped otherwise and i will draw BAD!!! give me spaceeeee to go wild!!!!

the head circles are there for emotional support

very low res speedpaint because truth is the canvas was much bigger than the space where my comic was placed. i didnt account when exporting my timelapse in 720px that that tiny space would look so pixelated ... but it's able to be percieved, so its okay.

(i will now comment on my process and it is not brief sorry)

usually i would try to clean up my sketches and figure out what goes on top before jumping into linework, but since there are multiple panels and drawings i chose to jump into inking right away for the sake of brevity. i just went in with a brush that uses pen pressure and drew what was needed. i added extra line thickness and contrast in areas around the face because it helps direct your eyes there more easily that way.

according to her equipment rei has a chain belt but i only remembered it existed once I was going to color, and i did not like that discovery... I chose to ignore it to maintain my peace. i already have the color palettes for these characters figured out, and i didnt really want to think about a new element at the moment www I tend to overthink those things a lot so i skipped it

the rest is rather straightforward! not that anything else wasn't, but in here i could turn my brain off and sing. linework and sketching require mumbling so i cannot turn my brain off. just block in the characters with a solid color so i can have a mask (something along those lines,) where the color can stay inside. then just color in !!!

Base colors just had slight cell shading on the skin, and for the hair i airbrush a bit of the skincolor in low opacity near the forehead... I'm not sure what it means, but i can look at the faces easier with it somehow. i like the gentle subtlety it adds even if you cant really tell. it makes things look nice.

background was just me blocking in the color of the wall and floor, shade the wall a bit, then slap a noise and free use wood texture on top. work smarter not harder ! yet it took a bit to make it look stylistically fitting with the characters, and even now i think bottom middle panel looks odd. whatever!!!

for the middle panel i thought itd be funny if the background was a solid silly and colorful one to contrast the next panel's sketchy black one. a contrast to how the word widow is seen. on that note my handwritting is not pointy. i gaslighted my hand into thinking that it was indeed pointy in that moment so i could write "not-yet dead person" in letters that didn't seem cute. my hand did not fall for it but it complied anyway

that's basically it! I'm not sure what else i could say that doesn't feel barebones because it really is that straightforward. if you're curious I used clip studio paint for this. only special brush used was for linework (a brush named Lemon Brush), the rest used were just the default. my computer gets the least credit. it was trying to convince me a 20mb file was going to nuke it all the time and hardly let me save multiple times so i do not appreciate it

ABSOLUTELY I HAVE COOL BRAIN FACTS. HERE YOU GO

most cells are equipped with their own timekeepers, called clock genes. these optimize processes such as sleeping, digestion, and eating with our schedules. big complicated animals like us need specific areas in their brains to make sure all the clocks in our cells are in synch! the area that does this is called the suprachiasmatic nucelus, or SCN.

here is a timelapse video of a small slice of mouse SCN tissue in which the gene for the protein that makes fireflies glow, luciferase, has been tagged onto a clock gene. watch how it cycles!

the biggest way the SCN communicates with the rest of the body is via the hormone cortisol. yes, the stress hormone. it sends a pulse of cort through your body, usually around 4am, to wake you up and remind the rest of your cells what time it is! (this is one of the reasons stress will fuck with people so badly - it's linked to our circadian rhythms via cort.)

because clock genes are expressed in every cell, things that affect our circadian rhythms will affect all of our health. this is why science is so strongly against daylight savings time - the sudden switch really fucks with our entrained rhythms, and in the week after daylight savings not only do car crashes go up, but so do heart attacks. this is also one of the reasons why night people do so poorly in modern society - without going too strongly into the biology of it, variations in clock genes can result in different circadian cycle lengths. a longer cycle means you'll be more inclined to sleep and wake later, and trying to abide by a different schedule can cause misalignment in your rhythm and affect many aspects of your health, such as sleep, gut health, and immune health (among others).

some things people can do to maintain a consistent rhythm are sleep/wake up at the same time every day, exercise early in the morning (this boosts morning cortisol, helping your body to wake up!), and eating at regular times while avoiding eating too late.

"Our previous theories on the exact genders of the Genetic Terror has proved incorrect."

Leader is shown finding a quiet protected area the bushes shrubbery and tree branches making a perfect nest like area for her to squeeze and shuffle through past the leaves, she is shown leaving and returning with furs carefully crawling under the branches to not disturb or reveal her hidden area.

"In order to observe further we need more specialised equipment."

People talk inaudibly in the background as the cameraman shows off what looks like an ordinary leaf but is in fact a highly sophisticated type of camera powered by solar with little legs like a bug for movement. The view from the multiple leafcam is slightly green tinted, a little non invasive toy car like rover scoots revving softly near the nest and deposits the box with the leafbots in who disperse quickly subtly into place.

Leader is shown chasing the little toy car and knocking it over watching it spin in circles stuck on its side before it 'dies', she loses interest returning to her nest, inside viewed by multiple leafbot the leaves and foliage are spread and flattened intentionally as she builds up the other materials feathers from Great Tusk, Scream Tail fur, Slither wing fluff and wings any soft body part she wants and can fit into the nest.

The nest is completed during a time lapse of her nest building and half a day later she lays three small eggs, they are lumpy and slightly misshapen but she seems delighted her body resting protective over them like a brooding hen she incubates what is hers. During a time of her absence Dart enters the nest slowly looking around sniffing materials.

"We feared Dart would devour the eggs of the male he'd been trying to chase off," Dart lowers themselves and produces an egg of their own larger and more solid and smooth into the middle of the nest before leaving, "we were wrong."

Leader returns and pauses her head lowering as she nuzzles each egg faintly as though counting them pausing at the large healthy egg in the center of her misshapen ones she moves and returns to her brooding accepting the foreign egg as her own.

"If Leader knows this is Darts egg we aren't sure we can only assume she believes it her own egg or knows of its origins. The difference in egg shape size and overall visual health has led us to believe Leaders eggs may non be viable."

A timelapse shows Leader guarding her nest leaving occasionally to hunt but noticeably losing weight and leaving less and less frequently. There is also footage of Dart and Glider struggling to hunt as a duo without Leader to guide them and King searching around looking noticeably lost his snout to the ground sniffing deep inhales trying to get a scent before snorting in frustration and walking off heavily.

Finally, there is movement from one of the eggs, they wobble and flop to the side as Leader watches them intensely, the little leg that kicks out is dark red with dark grey striping, when they finally destroy their way out their egg it is clear they are not Leaders, a miniature adult genetic terror, proud horns and midhorn with a subtle bump implying a double point like King, their colors were deep and rich Darts red orange hues darkened further like dark jewels grey emphasising and contrasting.

Leader watches the little hatchling bounce around making infant screeches and chirps before scooping them close to her body nuzzling and grooming them.

"Her eggs haven't hatched," they've shrunken and even caved in on themselves, "Leader could carry a genetic defect, or it was an unlucky draw." She is witnessed removing the eggs one at a time from the nest throwing them to be scavenged elsewhere before bringing a small Roaring Moon limp in her jaw to give the hatchling their first meal.

She demonstrates biting the carcass and ripping away the flesh offering it to the chick dangling between her teeth, she feeds them tenderly and often but keeps them hidden in the nest.

"We don't know how long hatchling stay in the nest with their mothers, or if this is purely a behaviour displayed by Leader, and unfortunately this time we won't get answers."

Leader leaves the nest to go hunting, she's still underweight from everything as she goes to hunt, the hatchling is seen playing with and chasing a feather that's floating about the nest making little bark like noises vocalisations of play displaying what could be a play bow before diving after the feather.

Unfamiliar jaws lean into the nest, the hatchling pauses watching the unfamiliar mouth, cold and unfeeling they snap around the youngling. With a squeal the invader makes off with its prey from the unwatched nest. Leader is viewed botching her hunt before bolting back to her nest she vocalises squeaks and cries in her throat in sheer desperation sniffing around and whimpering at a trickle of blood. She looks lost without her hatchling.

"Leader hasn't left her nest since the incident, her pack members have been struggling and King seems unaware of the tragedy that has occurred."

The camera shows the start of a forest fire beginning to crackle and burn loudly.

"If Leader can't find the strength to flee the fire will surely kill her."

Multiple pokemon run and flee bellowing in natural fear of the fire ravaging their home, instincts drive them purely to survive, the leafbots are forced to flee with what battery they have left. It looks bleak, Dart and Glider stand at the forests edge crying and bellowing out throaty summoning calls echo into the darkening sky.

"But like a phoenix she is reborn from the ashes of despair!"

A camera catches glimpse of orange hues bolting through the forest, underweight and disorientated the Genetic Terror runs dodging and weaving around the flames and burning foliage around her course correcting as the flames race her dropping burning trees and setting shrubs alight. Her panic evident in her cries and roars. Leaping from the burning forest she crashes into the grassland outside quickly reached and greeted by her siblings, chirps and nuzzles reassure their bonds before they take one last glance at the flames disappearing into the thickening ash and smoke ridden land.

King bellows at the flames enraged by their insult as nature takes its course ravaging the land to regrow it, he storms off with heavy stomps to find a new area to sleep.

"It's been months since the fire, Leaders condition has not improved, while the fire forced her to move from her nest her appetite has not bounced back."

Dart and Glider gorge themselves on fat Slither Wing their wings ripped off to prevent mobility and escape as they excitedly chitter at the flesh they're enjoying. Leader lay nearby on her side, she's thin and looks exhausted breathing heavily for such an easy hunt the strain of hunger causing issue with her body and yet she won't eat feeling no hunger.

The other two have long since fallen asleep assuming their sibling will eat now they're asleep, she lay uninterested but awake head lifting slowly sensing the slowly approaching King. Her head lowers either in submission or being too exhausted. King stands and looks over her slowly he moves digging into the carcasses of the Slither Wing himself devouring large mouthfuls.

He pulls away flesh hanging in his teeth and comes to Leaders side leaning down and using his arms as support he holds the food out to her, he nudges his face to hers until she acknowledges him opening her mouth slowly to take the food he delicately hands it over. The process repeats, with King biting at her legs when she does not chew only holding the meat in her teeth, his own teeth never break flesh but encourages her enough to eat.

He continues until she seems genuinely unable to devour more slowly trudging off and returning with a wetter snout he opens his maw slowly to her and water he had collected falls onto her as he attempts to offer her water, she makes noises of discontent shaking her head at the water splashed on her with a warning hiss he doesn't respond to.

King holds his jaw more steady and after some working out carefully shares the water with her for her to drink, he seems content and licks the spare droplets from her muzzle and nuzzles her face in affection purring deeply to her before going to retrieve more water, though this time she stands to follow slowly. He stops every few paces waiting for her and rests besides her at the water as she tips her head low and drinks, his tail thumps the grass happily.

"King has been tailing the group for a few weeks now, he is recorded giving Leader special attention and even aiding in the hunts and refusing to let the others eat until himself and Leader have had their fill. Her health is improving, though it's clear she still thinks about the nest and lost hatchling, on some nights she is seen pacing around making calls for her baby as though she will get a response. King only seems to watch her when this happens, he does not seem aware of what she is calling for."

"She will recover and more behaviour can hopefully be recorded. The area which burned down has been regrowing at a rapid previously unseen rate and should be back to it's lush original state within a month or two. Area zero continues to fascinate us."

Hello! I just found your blog but I am absolutely obsessed with your art and your style. Honest to god made me want to rewatch the x files right now even though I absolutely do not have the time. The colors and the textures are so crunchy I'm eating your whole art tag. I wanted to ask if you could share a bit of your process & thoughts. Maybe the brushes you use if that's not too much to ask? Stuff like that is a huge inspiration to me just in general and it makes me want to draw and draw and draw again. Your timelapse recordings are super cool!! ohh hi, thank you so much for your kind words!! 🧡 I'm glad my art inspires you to draw! I made a post about my favorite brushes here, and as for the process.. hmm, I really don't know if I can explain it? I work digitally in pretty much the same way as I do with traditional medium, I don't have any shortcuts that digital artists usually do, for example the concept of gradient maps is alien to me. I just, well, do a rough sketch, then a cleaner sketch over it, then I set a solid undertone color and add shadows, and gradually work my way up from there. I think this timelapse shows more insight into my process than any others I've posted. sorry I can't be more helpful, I don't have the proper equipment or technical skills for recording my process and doing a voiceover explaining every step 😅

14. where do you get your inspiration?

All over! I get some atmospheric inspiration from places I've been (there is an IRL doohm rock reference from mercaleb, as you know), tidbits and themes from life experiences I want to explore from various angles, themes from canon that leave room for more exploration, idle daydreams, whatever other media I'm watching and go "hmmm what if I put a blorbo in that situation". Sometimes it's escapism and sometimes it's reflection and sometimes it's both. Other creators inspire me (like you!) with beautiful writing and art that makes a thriving fandom ecosystem. I've written snippets for art and drawn art for others' writing, circle of life, etc. I love great art prompts from followers when I'm doing doodles (thank you to everyone who has ever sent one!). Sometimes my inspiration for any creation is just "hehe wouldn't it be SO stupid if I just-" and then I do. Highly recommend.

19. the most interesting topic you've researched for a fic

It's gotta be everything volcanically related for Volcaleb. All the materials I watched and read for that were interesting, whether or not they made a reference in the fic. I watched videos of scientists who simulated lava flows with their own materials melted in a massive drum & poured down concrete slopes. Lots of folks hiking around active lava flows in a variety of heat gear, taking samples. Drone footage over active fantastical eruptions. Stumbled on a really unfortunate series of AI images of "people eating lava" (do not recommend). Timelapse footage of slow-moving pahoehoe which has this fascinating chrome color to the cooling surface in some lights. There was one 20min Youtube video about contractors in Hawaii talking about how it was dangerous to move construction equipment in some areas of the islands because you could unexpectedly have a big hollow chamber somewhere under you at any time and the weight of the machinery could collapse the whole thing. I watched the whole thing and used none of it lol. I learned about long-term land use recommendations as official documents in areas where geological variables are at play - this actually did get a mention! Anyway, volcanoes and lava are cool (heh).

The country I live in is on fire with millions of acres destroyed and thousands of people evacuated. This is potentially the 2nd time in 4 years that people will loose everything they have (as the 2019 Canadian wildfires were also horrendous). Millions are suffering displacement, homelessness, and health risks due to the wildfires across the country. I live in British Columbia and I remember 2019. This is so much worse. The ENTIRE country is pretty much on fire.

And what do the people of the U.S.A immediately say? “Blame Canada!” “We need to invade them bc clearly something is wrong up there” “Canada fucking sucks!” “Ugh, here is my Timelapse of how smokey the sky is, but apparently it will be gone in 2 days.”

Well Americans aren’t the ones who have to deal with the LITERAL GIANT FIRES SCORCHING THEIR NEIGHBOURHOODS AND FORESTS! They don’t have to pack up everything they own and hope, JUST HOPE, they come back and their homes aren’t burnt to the ground. They don’t have to hope their communities aren’t entirely destroyed. They don’t have to worry if their friends, families, and animals are okay. They are not the ones trapped due to roads being closed and heavy debris falling as the fires become uncontrollable. And they only seem to care when it is them on fire. But if another country is? They don’t fucking bat an eye, and yet the rest of the world helps them when they are in need.

So instead of complaining Americans, how about you fucking help for once? We are thankful you sent some of your firefighters to help us, but in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t enough. The U.S.A as a country is the 2nd biggest C02 producer in the world, which heavily contributes to the worsening of climate change, hence the wildfires. But Americans seem to forget this little fact. They forget that their politics and their environmental policies have literally fucked the rest of the world. So stop being so fucking selfish and actually help for once by contacting your local, state, and federal government(s). Stop voting for absolute idiots that want climate change to worsen so their pockets can be filled. Help by spreading information that will help those impacted, volunteer if you can, and maybe consider donating if you have the means. Or at least have some goddamn compassion and sympathy.

• Donate A Mask

This organization ships free N95 respirator equivalent masks across Canada to those affected by the wildfires and for those who cannot afford high-quality and high-grade medical masks.

• Firefighters Without Borders

Firefighters Without Borders is a organization based in Ontario that provides equipment and training to local firefighters and communities across Canada. This helps in fighting current and future wildfires and promotes prevention. It also supports local firefighters to host and provide equipment to international firefighters when Canada needs assistance.

• Odawa Native Friendship Centre

The Odawa Native Friendship Centre is an organization serving the Ottawa-Carleton region in Ontario by helping Indigenous peoples that have had to evacuate their homes due to the wildfires. They accept money donations and usually accept clothing donations as well, but they are not taking clothing items at this time.

• The Central Okanagan Food Bank BC Wildfires Emergency Food Relief Fund

This organization donates much needed food to those impacted by the wildfires who are currently facing food insecurity. They have expanded to helping the entire province as the wildfires have spread.

I've been watching the IRM livestreams lately and my new favorite hobby is going to the timelapses on the website on days when a new piece of equipment shows up because the timelapse will cut off for the night and bam, new coach on the station tracks. My question is what's the process like for new coaches/other equipment that arrives at the museum, especially in modern times?

When you say "process", I think you are asking about the actual work of getting a new piece of stock to the property. Ray might have more to say about that. It does tend to be a lengthy and expensive undertaking starting with a purchase, donation, or trade and it can take years for funding and logistics to align for the equipment to actually be moved to the IRM. Some pieces never make it past the acquisition stage.

But as for the stock themselves, they mostly receive a warm reception when they arrive. There are times when the circumstances may put a tint on the event (like when, for instance, five of GTW No. 8280's siblings - who never made it to the IRM and fell into disrepair waiting - were traded to a scrapyard to get CB&Q No. 4963 out), but everyone understands what a rare and special occurrence it is to finally make it on the property and how much has to go into it for it to happen.

Having added most of the IRM's acquisitions to the timeline (which will be public next update) you lose the perspective a bit when you see the quantity things the IRM acquires, especially in particular years of plenty or when they receive an entire collection. Every individual piece at the IRM knows what a practical miracle it is that they're there at all though.

Little Day + Workies, Hana, And GSA! || D!Update || 3/20/24

I'm getting hyped because my friend Hana is coming back into the states on the 30th and I haven't seen them in so long!

We had testing again today but I was equipped with my crochet hook and a project I needed to finish! It's a multipurpose thingy that I'm using as either a sitting pad, lap pad, armrest when writing, or an actual freaking pillow. It's great. Also I named him Timothy. Timmy goes by he/it because I said so. During music per. I did some drumming with the kiddos and it was really fun! Sometimes Alexander forgets I'm not a student and praises me for drum rhyming and I get really bashful. At least I had fun! (And got high fives!)

I just got out of my lilzpace mindset/reg period and I remembered (somehow itty bitty me remembered to record a timelapse of me being frustrated with my hello kitty sticker workbook.) (Silent Timelapse below!) I had my fluttershy stimboard I made in therapy, comfort box, Crayons, DC+Marvel coloring books and my comfort scents! It was nice and I read a bluey paperback I stole from my little sister back home.

Gage had fun doing quads around the property after work. Null played in some shallow water and ran around in shorts. They also didn't have any remarkable shifts other than teeth shifts and tail shifts today.

Germany has begun a significant strengthening of its defense capabilities with the approval of substantial acquisitions of PATRIOT, IRIS-T and Meteor missiles.

The first major decision involves the replenishment of IRIS-T air-to-air missiles, which have been a crucial part of the armament of Tornado attack aircraft and Eurofighter multifunction fighters since 2005. An order of 120 IRIS-T missiles, valued at 108 million euros, aims to compensate for the missiles delivered to Ukraine under the IRIS-T SLS anti-aircraft systems. This measure by the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) was a response to Ukraine's urgent need to defend itself against Russian air strikes. The new missiles, scheduled for delivery in 2026, are part of a broader framework agreement that potentially covers up to 1,280 missiles.

In addition, the committee gave the green light for the acquisition of 500 guided missiles, along with spare parts, for the PATRIOT air defense system. The investment in this program reaches 3.01 billion euros. The Bundeswehr special modernization fund will finance the purchase of 400 missiles for approximately 2.4 billion euros, the remaining 100 missiles, costing about 602 million euros, to be covered by the regular defense budget. This acquisition aims to replenish exhausted military arsenals and improve Ukraine's anti-aircraft defenses. The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) will facilitate both orders, with deliveries planned between 2027 and 2033.

Germany also approved a third program to start research for the modernization of the long-range air-to-air missile Meteor, an integral part of the armament of the Eurofighter Typhoon. With a budget of 34.9 million euros, the project will explore improvements in the radar search engine, propulsion system, data connection and missile warhead, with research starting next year and expected results by 2025. Namely, five other European countries are participating in this project, probably including the main users of Eurofighter: Germany, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom and, presumably, France.

It IS a tough time to be an artist. It’s absolutely ludicrous to demand a Timelapse. That’s so unrealistic it’s actually laughable. I’m going on 15+ years of being a professional artist and the only Timelapse I’ve ever done has been on procreate because it requires no set up or equipment or thought before hand. I think the only artists who do set up time lapses are actively trying to cultivate a teaching/tutorial presence online… so, not the majority of artists.)

Try not to let the anon negativity get you down.

(If it’s any consolation, the EU approved a new version of the AI Act, (which will be the beginning of AI regulation) that shows that they have listened to the concerns of the creative community. So, change is coming. It may take a while but, it’s coming.)

thank you nonny, am sorry for not replying sooner ❤️ i do think timelapses are cool and they're good for growing your account and what not, but i have so much to do (being a mum, household chores, cooking, taking care of our senior doggo, running the not so fun aspects of my small business) while also being a full time artist (and struggling with depression, anxiety and adhd) and if I'm recording everything i do then i have less time to actually make stuff. i think it's ridiculous to demand a timelapse from people especially if it's someone who has been painting for a while. thank you so much for your kindness and encouragement ❤️
