What I Loved About This Book:

It is laugh-out-loud funny, the kind of dry, deadpan humor that made me fall in love with authors like Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

The characters are beautifully developed and described, not just their appearances but their personalities. TJ Klune is a master at making his characters feel real. So real that you get angry when other characters are mean to them because that's my cinnamon roll and how dare they!

This is a perfect romance novel for younger readers and readers who don't enjoy explicit sex scenes. The love story is primarily focused on hearts and souls, not physical attraction. It is about the joy of finding someone who sees you for all that you are, and who wouldn't want to change a thing about you. If it was a fic on Ao3, I would be comfortable rating it G.

But this isn't just a queer romance. It is also a story about neurodivergence, about finding beauty in all kinds of differences, about how hatred is taught and therefore love can be taught also.

I have to say, I just love his writing. It’s sucks me in every time. This was a story of love, loss, regret, and death. It made me feel all the emotions. I cried at parts, struggled to hold it together, and laughed at others. It’s a story of life and all it’s choices and how we come to terms with them in the end. All of us experience death in one form or another and all of us will die in the end as none of us get out of this game called life. We can face death with fear, anger, denial, and hopelessness or we can accept it, understand it, and see it for what it is…the continuation of our journey, whatever may be on the other side. If I could recommend a book to anyone going through loss and grieving it would be this one. It was a beautiful and poignant story with depth of feeling and understanding. I loved it.
